!!! i'm so glad i remembered to check, because today marks 1,000 days of writing in a row!
i had never written anything before starting my first fic on nov 11, and just kept writing every day, trying to improve and find my "voice." the only days i skipped were the three days during the winter storm when the entire state of texas lost power, but other than that i've kept the routine. even if i only added 40 words, or focused on editing, or daydreamed scenes for an outline for 15 hours, i've done something for my fics every day.
there's really no profound thoughts or lessons to share to wrap this up, just thought it was neat.
#maybe the profound thought is that i'm that classic adhd person that hyperfixates on a hobby for two weeks and then gives up on it#so i guess that's something

I think the reason Charles never refers to Hawkeye by his name is because it’s a nickname, because he’ll call BJ, Margaret, and Klinger by their names without issue, and I could write up an entire post about Charles’ approach to names and nicknames and I might come back and do that tomorrow when it’s not so late
For now I just want to make the point that there’s a scenario in my head where Charles tried one (1) time to call Hawkeye Benjamin in casual conversation and the entire conversation ground to a halt because they both got incredibly uncomfortable about it because it sounded so WRONG and they agreed to never talk about it again

#they all have a thing about boredom as an existential state even more than grief#dkw to call it but something about mundanity being profound and the profound being mundane#and in a way they are all horror stories too but it's the horror of individual existence within a context#and strange beauty#five minute question-answer these were the ones that floated up first so im gonna assume they're the right answers#i think for me there's a point where media has to become separate from its sense of its own cleverness#PB is interesting because there's a huge layer of revelling in its cleverness but then there's a huge layer of stuff they must have#-realised almost *no one* would parse; they never ever talk about it in interviews either#hana-bi is also a cop/gangster-*type* movie which uses genre motifs to look at grief and subverts#the grief is unbelievable and understated despite very contrived devices it doesn't *feel* like it's rolling in its own cleverness
