Hi anon, and welcome to the unhinged world of Lestappen lore! We're so happy to have you. ❤️

Now have a seat and get cozy, because it's story time.

Charles made it into F1 in 2018 and after spending his maiden season at Alfa Romeo Sauber, his life-long dream finally came true as he was snatched up by Scuderia Ferrari to replace the man, the myth, the legend that is Kimi Räikkönen. Needless to say, 2019 was a big year for Charles. His first season in the team he had always dreamed of driving for. He was ready. He was hungry.

Now, enter Max Emilian Verstappen, who at this point had already been in F1 since 2015, when he was signed at the ripe age of 17. Already a seasoned F1 driver, which is impressive as fuck at that age. At this point, Max and Charles were following each other on social media. After all, they'd known each other for most of their lives, had grown up together in karting, and were now competing at the top level.

Today, we know Austria as the Lestappen holy ground following that podium in 2022. (Borderline pornographic podium celebration? Don't mind if I do.) But, it had potential to become the Lestappen holy ground even back in 2019, because Max and Charles were on fire. Talking, laughing, joking, mirroring each other in the pre-race press conference, and generally acting like teenagers with a crush. (As you do with your emotional support rival.) Things were good. Great, even.

And then Sunday rolled around, and the race happened. Charles and Max were doing what they do best and what they love the most, namely fighting each other on track, likely having the time of their fucking lives. But then this overtake happened, there's a little bit of contact and Charles briefly ends up off the track, and Max goes on to win the race, with Charles finishing P2. (Anyone else hearing "He's just unfair. I'm leading, he wants to pass, he push me, I push him back" and "Nothing, just an inchident"? in their heads watching that overtake? Just me? Okay.)

Charles was pissed, absolutely convinced that Max had done something wrong, that it wasn't a clean move, and the move was investigated, as all similar moves are. FIA, however, ends up deeming it a clean move and Max doesn't get a penalty, meaning his win stands. And, well, this is where Charles Leclerc shows the world what it means to truly be ✨dramatic.✨ (We love a dramatic king in this house, ngl. Nothing is more entertaining to me than grown-ass men acting like children.)

A look that could kill? Check. Dramatically fixing your cap? Check. Looking away dramatically while plotting someone else's demise? Check. Looking like finishing P2 is not a huge accomplishment in your first season in Scuderia Ferrari? Check. Squeezing past as the winner getting drenched in champagne because you're not about to stand there and watch him celebrate? Check. Whatever the fuck this face is? Check.

Now, here's where it gets really fucking hilarious: Charles and Max fly home from Austria on the same flight. On this flight, where Max is probably sitting in Charles' direct line of sight, Charles goes to Max's Instagram and unfollows him. Probably glaring at Max the entire fucking time. Because he's a fully grown adult man capable of making reasonable, mature decisions when things don't go his way. Clearly. And Max, upon noticing this (or his team noticing it), remembers that he is also a fully grown adult man capable of making reasonable, mature decisions, and responds by unfollowing Charles back. Obviously.

It has been four years and our boys have clearly moved past the events of Austria 2019, but the Great Unfollowing has remained. Has it become an inside joke between them, which is why they're still not following each other after all these years? Probably, if Charles threatening to unfollow Matt from P1 with Matt & Tommy during a Ferrari challenge (and fucking following through on the threat, too) is anything to go by. Does it still make me cackle every time I think about it? Abso-fucking-lutely.

Can u help me understand Lestappen please? I’m trying to get into it because it’s a popular ship and I don’t want to miss out on great fics and stuff.

But I see Tumblr posts of MV and CL that scream “HEART EYES” or “HUSBANDS” and…I don’t see it. I can’t suspend my disbelief. Like I get they’ve been competing for 20 years or whatever but I don’t get anything other than profesh respect. And when we regularly see how they are with other people, like MV with Daniel or Lando, or CL with Carlos, Lestappen looks even worse.

Can you please help me see the Lestappen light?

hi anon! lemme break it down for ya. the reason why lestappen is such a popular ship is bc not only of the mutual respect that they have for each other, but the history they have, and their interactions have been pretty cute and all.

even max and lando don't really interact that much, and lando goes as far as to say that "he's not my bff, don't ever say that again" when asked about him and max's relationship. and max with daniel–well, max has always loved daniel and had a crush on that man since his first days in f1 so... different dynamic for sure. charles with carlos interactions... they are cute and all but i think their racing dynamics are just so awkward? esp i think that the ferrari politics deffo affected their relationship and all. cross-team dynamics between charles and max have a nice dynamic, but i'll break down some of the key events

lestappen lore timeline!

2012 - when the inchident occurs - you just need to watch this video. it's just so funny. no words can explain this 😭

2014 - when max essentially recommends charles to race for his old f3 team, van amersfoort racing, a dutch team. and the team boss had a lot of positive things to say about the two <3

2019 - the singapore flag incident... mr. i know geography and i love flags SOMEHOW doesn't know the difference between the singapore flag and the monaco flag

2019 - when we get to austria 2019. essentially, charles is about to win his FIRST ever f1 gp with 3 laps to go, and max pushes charles off track, overtaking him and eventually winning. charles is FURIOUS on the podium. and then they have to share a plane back home but max is all like "oh yeah we're good! 😊 he's talented and he will have his first win this year for sure! we have at least 15-20 years of racing together still! 😊" and then on the plane charles unfollows max. max does the same 😭

2022 - jumping forward to austria 2022, when charles wins the race! and they have this GAY ASS PODIUM

austria is lestappen holy ground.

2020 - when we get this wonderful clip of sebastian asking whether or not charles thinks max is pretty.

seb: is he pretty? charles: *giggles and then silence* OH WAIT. i thought you said 'is he british?' i was like, that's not physical... *panicked leg shake* i don't know!!! *laughs again*

charles not wanting to answer if max is pretty... we should take that as a yes <3

2021 - the year of their baku love tree <3 according to an old turkish custom, when a couple get married, they plant a tree together, and they water it to symbolize their marriage and their hope for leading a happy and beautiful life!

and then jumping forward to 2023 in baku, they have the SAME IDENTICAL TIME during first runs in q3. only max is first bc he did his lap first.

2022 - cota! before the press conference they talk and max goes "fresh again?" and charles starts GIGGLING. like yeah we know u were drunk celebrating 🙄

2022 - secret santa! when charles has max for secret santa and this guy just. gives him f1 2022. with THREE OF HIS FACES. and has a card and writes "one edition for my BIGGEST FAN." not normal about this at ALL.

2023 - charles admits to drinking red bull after he couldn't say in an interview but then likes a tweet later 😭

2023 - paddelgate. max loses to charles in october

and then they're supposed to play together in december!

but then... Max stays up until 4 am the night before the match (doing a 24 hour charity stream) and sleeps in and misses the entire event. 🙁

ok i could literally go on and on about them but i'm going to end it here with a couple quotes:

"Of course I have a lot of respect for Max. He has done very well and I have a lot of respect for what he has achieved. When we drove in karts, we dreamed of Formula 1 together and here we are now! He has the title I won and I have a lot of respect for that."

My thoughts on the triple header:

I don’t even know where to begin, I think we all got overdosed by lestappen content in the last three weeks. Starting with Charles’ Pole in Austin and with him and Max talking before doing their interviews and clicking the picture for the top three in qualifying.

Mexico was a total banger with lestappen being posted and mentioned on RBR socials, F1 socials, Max’s inchident tiktok (that man knows it by heart, obsessed he is). And we also got lestappen podium. The smiles they had on their faces during that podium.

Brazil qualification, fantastic (although extremely chaotic!)

Lestappen P1-2 and not to forget, Charles’ Austin 2022 sunset lap finally got a parallel, with Max’s Brazil 2023 storm lap (he was sunshine, I was midnight rain- these two are so Taylor coded). And the post qualification debrief? All that chit-chatting, Max ignoring the interviewer cause he was busy talking with Charles. Charles after finishing his interview, immediately walking towards Max, who was literally staring at him and not to forget that when Max was getting interviewed, Charles was just three feet away from him. Charles reaching out for Max’s waist during the top three qualification picture?? I can’t believe Charles initiated it this time. Poor Lance though, he now understands what third-wheeling is. Let’s all welcome to the third-wheel group with Checo, Lewis, Carlos, Lando and whoever else has faced it.

RBR having Charles’ data on their pitwall? What is going on? Lestappen being mentioned on F1 official page again? Ferrari posting the inchident meme on their socials. MAX CALLING CHARLES, “CHARLIE?” I always knew that Max is the typa guy to call Charles, “Charlie!” It’s one of my headcanons. “Charlie, I have some space for you,” this is gonna be ingrained in my brain forever.

Also, when Charles came in the top three for sprint in Austin (I think), Max had his arm wrapped around Charles’ waist and today when Lando and Checo were in the top three, Max held his trophy instead of resting his arms around them. SUS IF YOU ASK ME.

Now, as a Charles fan first and foremost, this triple header was not at all good. The disqualification cause of the plank issues, FUCK YOU FERRARI. The only good thing out of the disqualification was the rise of 1644 nation. I absolutely love the development in their relationship. With the collaborative post and with Charles’ weird ass blue filter on it too. Lmao. And then the picture of Lewis took of Charles in Mexico, WHICH HE POSTED ON HIS MEXICO DUMP. Insane! And Charles even said that him and lewis have to definitely play chess together someday. I’m gonna cry, I like need a pic or video biblically of that.

And now the booing that Charles faced in Mexico, absolutely disgusted by that behaviour. It was not Charles’ fault. He didn’t deserve the booing. He couldn’t even celebrate it properly on the podium.

And Brazil today, did I mention, FUCK YOU FERRARI?? I’m literally one more vein popping away before I fly to Maranello, Italy and stab the people responsible for today’s disaster. What has Charles ever done to you? For him to receive this sort of treatment? Honestly, half of their team should be fired, ASAP.

Out on formation lap is just embarrassing from Ferrari’s side, why the fuck didn’t they check the car?? “We’re checking” is not a good answer.

I’m literally writing an email to Piero Ferrari after this rant. Strict action has to be taken at Scuderia Ferrari, starting with firing Xavi and everyone who created sf-23. I don’t give fucks at this moment. Happy to know that Charles has stopped wearing those ugly ass fuck red quail pants though. I’m loving him in the non-ferrari merch.

I am happy that we only have two more races with this tacky, ugly, motherfucking, shit ass of a car. BURN SF-23 after Abu Dhabi.

jealousy, jealousy - chapter 7: nothing, just an inchident

chapter 7: nothing, just an inchident

Not a single driver couldn’t sense something being very wrong by the time Suzuka came around. Max and Charles avoided each other at all costs, and Charles had a sneaking suspicion that George and Carlos had a hand in helping it stay that way.

Clearly nobody had said anything to poor Lando nor Alex, who initially looked bewildered at Media Day, when Charles fled their circle at the first sight of that damned black cap. Or when Carlos started ordering an extra takeout meal during grid dinners while one chair remained conspicuously vacant. Or when George forcefully elbowed his way in between Max and Charles during their podium picture, taking extra care to jab Max in the ribs as he wedged himself in the center. But even they put two and two together eventually.

The first time Charles saw Max all weekend was in the Cooldown Room. Even in his daze, Charles felt terrible for George, who constantly fidgeted with his hat while shiftily glancing between Max and Charles in the thick, frosty silence.

The Cooldown Room had been affectionately dubbed “The Max Verstappen Podcast” for a reason; it was always Max chatting away merrily with his two guests—or one, if Charles was on the podium. The third person usually was forced to endure not only their unnecessarily verbose play-by-play of the entire race, but also the sight of Max failing to break eye contact with Charles for a mere second. Seriously. Max once managed to hand Lando a towel, ask him what the fuck happened to his tyres on Lap 24, and clap him on the back for what a great job he did handling that all while staring directly into Charles’ pupils the entire time. Charles’ lip curled bitterly at the memory.

Truthfully, what made Charles want to scream more than anything else was that Max was just…gone. There might have been a Dutch driver clad in a Red Bull suit sitting stiffly in the P3 chair despite being champion because it was the furthest away from Charles’ P2 seat, staring at the race replay, face devoid of any discernible emotion. But that driver wasn’t Max. Max brought up Charles at interviews any chance he got. Max hunted down Charles after every race before doing anything else. Max held the door open for him at the sauna. And Max had the audacity to tell Charles that his eyes looked like the Meuse while staring at him with those two blazing sapphires.

He sat on his hands to stop them from trembling, bit his lips to stop them from quivering.

Max felt like Public Enemy #1 on the grid, and he despised it. Everything he’d once thought about not giving a shit about the haters was wrong. Turns out he only embraced the hate when it was about pole positions and trophies. Hurting Charles, who everyone generally considered to be a sweet golden retriever angel? No sir.

Ironically, the only guy who treated him remotely normally was Carlos. Lando and Alex avoided making eye contact with Max. Even Pierre and Yuki exchanged nervous glances when Max was around, too afraid to ask what had happened. And George…well, George had started acting like his biggest wish was to secure a voodoo doll of Max and spend the rest of his life sticking pins into it.

One day, after a particularly unpleasant practice session during which George left a fucking hole in Max’s chassis—and had the balls to blame him for it, Max decided he’d had enough. He stalked over to George and gestured angrily towards the damaged car.

“There was no grip” was George’s pathetic excuse, as he took off his gloves and started walking away from Max mid-conversation.

Max laughed, incredulous. “Mate, we all have no grip. You all need to leave a little bit of space.”

“Yeah? So what’s your point?” came the insolent reply, three paces away.

Max saw red.

“Next time’s gonna be the same, you know,” Max spat at George’s retreating figure. “Dickhead.” He turned around, saw Checo, and immediately plastered what felt like the fakest smile known to man on his face. “Good job,” he chirped as if he hadn’t just finished cussing out George Russell.

“Thanks, man,” Checo said flatly.

“I’m so sick of this fucking diva,” Max complained to Carlos in the Red Bull hospitality later.

Carlos chuckled, although it sounded hollow. “You know George. He can be petty sometimes. He’ll come around.”

“I didn’t even do anything to him,” Max protested, vaguely aware of how whiny he sounded.

Carlos shot Max a look that plainly said, don’t push your luck. “I don’t know, Max. One might say having to be Charles’ emotional punching bag after what you did to him in that bar counts as anything. Although,” he mused, “if it makes you feel better, I think this season’s been rough on him in general.” Carlos started to count off on his fingers. “That breakup in the winter, Mercedes giving him the shittiest car, all those rumors about his unrequited crush—”

“Crush?” Max interrupted Carlos’ tallying. “What crush?”

“None of your business,” Carlos snapped abruptly.

Charles had no idea how long he’d been stagnating under his duvet after the race, but the sun was well on its way towards the horizon when his phone lit up with a text. He squinted at the bright screen.

Lando No-Rizz yo game? Me sorry man don’t feel great atm Lando No-Rizz bitch 1 round of rocket league before postrace pls

He didn’t want to play Rocket League. He didn’t want to go to the post-race party (he was fairly sure he never wanted to step inside a bar again, after what happened in Melbourne). He didn’t want to do much of anything, really. At this point, Charles just was barely going through the motions. He knew at some point the guys would notice him slowly morphing into an NPC, but as things were it took all of the willpower he could muster just to get out of bed, peel off the sweatpants he’d been living in for at least two weeks now, and pull on his racing suit three days a week.

A rude bang sounded on the door. Charles briefly fantasized about simply remaining motionless and magically willing the knock away.

No such luck.

“Let me in, you wanker,” Lando shouted from the hall.

Charles dragged himself over to the door and reluctantly allowed Lando to barge into his room.

“Bloody hell,” Lando said when he saw the closed curtains, the pile of dirty clothes on the floor, Charles’ unwashed, greasy hair. “Mate. You are down so bad.”

“I’m not,” Charles said as blandly as possible, knowing Lando would believe approximately zero percent of it.

“Just because Max is an arsehole doesn’t mean you need to be the one who goes into hiding.”

“Max doesn’t want to see me.”

“And why should you give a flying fuck about what Max wants?” Lando retorted.

“Because,” Charles said thickly, “what I want, is him.”

To Lando’s credit, he didn’t act surprised in the slightest. He blinked at Charles. “Max is my friend too, you know,” he said coolly. “I could tell he’s had a thing for you for literally eons. But he’s a right git sometimes and, how he acted at the bar was just…” He made a face. “…so yeah. Honestly mate, I know you want him, but he’s kind of lost the right to have you. And you have the right to live your life and enjoy it. I hope you know we’ve all got your back.”

Charles felt a sudden wave of appreciation for Lando Norris.

“Even if you’re a such a sad sack wanker,” Lando added.

He hurled a down pillow at Lando’s head. “Thanks, man.”

“Excellent. So Rocket League?”

Charles sighed. “I guess so.”

Lando beamed like a child who’d unexpectedly been handed an ice cream cone. Then he glanced down at Charles’ phone, the notification of his last text still on the lock screen.

“HEY,” Lando roared suddenly, “WHY, IS MY FUCKING CONTACT NAME IN YOUR PHONE, LANDO NO-RIZZ?”

Smiling for the first time in weeks, Charles grabbed another pillow and positioned it in front of his face, to ward off the onslaught he was surely about to receive.

max following charles to the bathrooms bc he wants to ask wtf his problem is. they start arguing and max kisses him before he can think twice, when the other boy gets in his face and shouts in french. then he’s being pushed into the sink and charles is storming out before max can say anything, or ask him not to say anything to anyone. both of them panicking bc that was their first kiss. i can so see charles being a little romantic and having wanted a really nice first kiss, he’s been thinking about it since he found out what it was, but then max kissed him in a dirty smelly bathroom and ruined the fantasy he had in his head. plus he like doesn’t even like boys, right? especially not his rival. definitely not his rival. max keeps trying to talk to him and charles won’t give him the time of day. he gives up eventually and moves on. gets into f1 before charles does, both of them secretly keeping up w the others careers. charles eventually makes it and max is scared to see him again because they haven’t spoken since the kiss and haven’t seen each other in years. get together drunkenly w charles after a race and charles is an inexperienced idiot w men bc he only ever liked max. max is obsessed w that and totally teases him for it for the rest of time.

ooor alternatively charles is really angry about it and confronts max ab it eventually, maybe even like months later, about how his first kiss shouldn’t have been in a pissy bathroom and max starts leading him somewhere and takes him somewhere cute like a rooftop or something and they can see the skyline and charles asks why they’re there and max is like, “well i was the only one there. if you want a do over it has to be with me.” and charles is like looking around and the sun is setting over the skyline. it’s weirdly romantic, staring into his rivals eyes. he kind of does want to kiss him now that he thinks about it.

Hi anon! I was thinking about early 2022, when the maxsplaining and the leclerfifying really began in earnest and Charles was way ahead in the points. Even when they were being promoted as this great rivalry the only people they really wanted to debrief with was each other (Silverstone 2022 looking at you).

A lot of great Lestappen thinkers have pondered the question of what it would be like if Max and Charles were actually involved in a serious, season long, close championship battle and I think the most popular school of thought is one that posits that their relationship would sour as they’re forced to pull more complicated manoeuvres on track in order to gain points. I disagree with this entirely, I think we’d have flashpoints and moments but if Bahrain 2022, Silverstone 2019 and so many other examples taught us anything, it’s that these two are so fascinating to watch racing because they know each other. They can anticipate each other’s moves quite well and there’s a beauty in racing against an opponent in cars that go at ridiculous speed because you have to trust each other to not pull a move that puts you in danger. Of course there’ll be inchidents but I think they respect/trust each other on track far more than they ever used to.

In terms of their relationship, the media will try their best to push this next big rivalry but I think they’ve arrived at a point where that wouldn’t affect them. There could be moments of frustration and high emotion which get sensationalised but they’ve had these moments in the past and then they’ve forgotten them by the next race.

I always remember when Charles and Max were briefly set up in media as the championship battle in 2022 and Max said that compared to the 2021 battle he was having far much more fun. Sure because he was defending champion, but also, compared to Lewis and Max, Charles and Max know each other and they grew up together (I think this is also the interview where he references them being born just weeks apart).

I think Charles would be more on edge, because it’s his first WDC battle and all, but I don’t see Max being anything other than generally ecstatic that he’s fighting Charles finally.

1- Who did you notice first? And what moment got you hooked? That's definitely Max! I saw him the first time in Imola 2020! My friends were telling me about him like..."You've been living in Amsterdam for years, how tf have you never seen him?" And I'm like "Max Verstappe who?" Then he passed Bottas in that race and yeah Bottas had an ferrari stuck to his car's floor but who cares, that was. beautiful overtake. Max was like "SEND IIIIIIIIITTTT" And GP's "haha, nice job" just got me hooked! Then Max' tyre blew up and well.... yeah that sucked!

3- What is a Lestappen moment that never leaves your mind? I mentioned earlier the post-race interviews in Austria'19. But also I gotta mention Sakhir crash. Cause that was the moment I noticed Charles, the Polish (My friend convinced me he's Polish cause of the flag) pretty boy who cost Maxy the win, damn him 😅 The two cars parked together there were truly poetic. Max talking about it after was hilarious, him saying "WHAT DO YOU MEAN WHAT HAPPENED"!! And then he kicked the wall 😂 Dramatic idiots.

24- Who does Sassy bully more? and who does Jimmy love more? Charles. Both answers are Charles. Sassy bullies him cause how dare "Ugly boy who dad thinks is pretty" steal Max from her! And Jimmy is a sweetheart who loves Charles cause he managed to not kick Sassy yet! Me and @il-predestinato have a whole story on this that will never come to the light! Or it will? Maybe? Hopefully? And you scream at him asking if he hates you so much that he wants to destroy your life completely. And he screams back saying he loves you.

He was always there.

Ghosting you like an unwanted shadow.

It all started when you were 6. Whenever you were karting - he was always just, there. You could count on him to show up. And if you weren't the one winning the races, it would either be him or Pierre.

If you weren't the one standing on the first spot, it would been him pushing you off the podium.

He was your worst enemy, and you were his. The rivalry never ended.

You had tried to become friends. You really did.

But matter how many times Pierre tried to make the two of you get along, the conversation ended in a catastrophe. When it came to Charles, you had a temper worst than Max. Anyone could make mistakes and accidentally push you in karting. Anyone but Charles.

Even that one video had become viral.

"It's unfair!" you had watched the replay over and over again, anger forming in the pit of your stomach at the memory. "It's just unfair! I'm leading, he wants to pass, he pushes me, I push him back and then he pushes me off the track! It's not fair" 13 years old you said into the microphone, flooding memories of your Karting years back to your mind as the video went on.

"Charles! What's happened with Y/n?" You watched as the video turned to the person you hated the most.

"Nothing just an inchident, on the race" you wanted to slap that cocky grin right off his face.

Even after Karting things didn't get any better.

No matter how much you looked up to Ferrari, and wanted to be with Ferrari - he made you regret that decision. He made you regret every single day you passed as a Ferrari Junior driver.

It didn't help that the two of you were two of the best drivers on the grid. Ferrari both wanted you to succeed, and you were their best drivers. The two of you had been paired up in Prema for your season in F2. And what was supposed to be a year, turned into two - because Charles had taken your seat in Alfa Romeo. The seat that you had been promised. The seat that he stole after a dinner where he convinced Vasseur to let him take the spot.

Which meant that you had to stay in F2 for another year.

That only made you want to crash every single car he owned.

But it didn't stop there. When you and Pierre tried blurring the lines between friendship and relationship, he made sure that it would never happen.

As you said, he was always there, like an unwanted shadow.

Like an evil ghost who wanted nothing but your demise.

When Vettle decided to leave Ferrari--it should have been the best day of your life. You should have been the happiest in the world when they offered you that seat. But instead, you dreaded it more than anything.

Your childhood dream had become your worst nightmare.

That morning, you found yourself in a private jet with your fellow Ferrari ‘teammate’ and the two Mclaren drivers on your way to the UK.

It was pretty quiet, and as always; there was a tension so thick between you and Charles it could be cut with a knife.

"Omg look at this," Lando shoved his phone in front of your face and it took a second for your eyes to adjust before you read the post.

It was a picture collage of you and Lando. In one picture, you were laughing together. Your head thrown backwards and he looked like he was catching his breath because of how hard he was laughing. You were both in your race suits and you were proudly wearing your Alfa Romeo cap--you remembered this being from last season.

The next picture was this season. Monaco to be exact. You were on the podium with Max and Lando, spraying Champagne all over Lando, huge grins on your faces. And the third, last but not least - was a picture of the two of you hugging after the race in Monaco. The hug was pure friendly, you even remembered Max chiming in seconds after the picture was taken.

The caption read 'they should just date already.'--making you chuckle at loud.

"Maybe you should take me dinner first, Lands." You chuckled.

"Are you flirting with me, Y/n?" He placed a hand over his heart as if he was offended.

"Maybe I am," you raised a challenging eyebrow, missing the glare Charles shot you both.

"Alright well, because were all staying in London for a day. Nobu, 7:30pm tomorrow," he grinned and brought his hand towards you so you could shake it as a way to seal the pact.

"Nobu? Isn't that like a super fancy sushi restaurant? I thought you hated fish?" You laughed as you shook his hand.

"Yeah- but they serve other things then fish. I've always loved that place."

"Alright, it's a date then."

"Carlos?" Charles leaned in when you were far enough.

"Charles?" He questioned as he raised an eyebrow, continuing to roll his suitcase through the airport.

"Could you do me a favor?"

"Yes?"

"Could you make sure Lando cancels his date with Y/n tomorrow? We really need her with Ferrari for an ad thing with a new sponsor, and I know her, she's going to say no to Ferrari to go to dinner - and it's a lot of money on the line," he blurted out.

"Really?"

"Yeah," Charles nodded like a maniac, glad Carlos was believing every word.

"I'll see what I can do, mate."

You rolled your suitcase all the way to the doors, where you were greeted with 2 black cars, the two drivers not really knowing where to put themselves as they were ready to host four formula 1 race winners.

"I can't believe Ferrari is making me share a car with you," Charles huffed as he handed his suitcase to the man and slipped into the car - you quickly following behind.

"Well, Charles, I guess you should have asked them for your own taxi if I'm such bad company." You mumbled as you buckled your seat belt.

"I probably should."

"I swear I'm this close to signing with Redbull. At least I'll be world champion and I won't have to see your face almost everyday."

"Like Redbull would want you."

"You know what? You'd be surprised," he rolled his eyes, you ignored him as always before taking your phone out and putting your headphones in.

The rest of the ride seemed to go well. No banter or fights had erupted.

The man parked right in front of your hotel, you thanked him before grabbing your luggage and waltzing over to the hotel lobby.

Suddenly your suitcase caught in a hole on the sidewalk, making you struggle a little. You tried to push it but you seemed to be so tired and still angry from Charles's comment that you put all your anger into your suitcase and it didn’t help.

"Let me help you." Charles turned your suitcase around and the wheel that had been stuck was now free. You barely grumbled a thanks as you snatched the suitcase away from him and rolled it back towards the lobby.

God he could be so annoying

"Oh Y/n/n- Charles told Carlos who told me you were busy- so Carlos and I are going to see a musical." Lando cheered over the phone, and your face fell.

"Huh?" You heard commotion on the other side, weight forming in your stomach as you realized what Lando had said.

"Yeah- I'll let you work!" He cheered before moving the phone away from his lips to talk to Carlos. "I guess we can go to diner after Silverstone though - oh and sorry, I got to go! Bye!"

"Bye?" Before you even finish the word, he hung up. Leaving you confused and lost in the middle of your hotel room.

You threw your phone when it registered.

"FUCKING CHARLES!" You screamed. More than you had ever screamed in your entire life.

This was too much.

It seemed that he was not only trying to ruin your entire career but your relationships.

Your fingers flied faster than music to ask Ferrari for your own taxi to bring you to Silverstone tomorrow. You were not doing a 3 hour ride with him by your side, not when he had made you this angry.

If he was going to ruin your date - you were determined to ruin something for him.

His Ferrari didn't seem like an awful idea.

But this was F1, you could get in serious trouble for messing with his car.

You had to find something else.

Two days later and you found yourself standing in the paddock with most of your crew as you got ready for practice. They were telling you about something new on the car that you had to be careful with.

You kept an eye on the time, and finished zipping your race suit as they spoke to you. You nodded once you understood the problem, and proceeded to start leaving towards the cars.

"Oh! Y/n can you give this to Charles?" One of the engineers stopped you in your tracks and you froze when you heard Charles name.

"S-sure" You gritted your teeth at the idea of facing him.

The engineer handed you Charles’s racing gloves and you had to squeeze them so tight in your knuckles went white to try and prevent yourself from ripping them too shreds at the mere thought of holding something that belonged to Charles.

You walked further down the paddock and spotted him zipping up his race suit.

"Charles!" You stated without warning, throwing his gloves in his face.

"Way to be nice." he grumbled, but that just made you even more furious. As much as you tried to forget what had happened the day before, his face was just too much of a reminder.

You chuckled in anger as you shook your head in disbelief.

"Charles. Charles." You said his name again as you turned around on your heels and got closer. "I tried to be nice to you." You tried to compose your anger but you just couldn't seem to do it. "But you know what? I realized something. That you hate me. And I realized that a long long time ago. You hate me so much that you want to destroy my life completely!" This time you were screaming.

"Who said I hated you?" He crossed his arms.

"Oh well, you did Charles! May I remind you about that time in F2 where you messed with my car so I had to retire just so you could win the race and take that place in Alfa Romeo instead of me? I HAD THAT SEAT! I had to wait another year to join F1!"

"We both know I did nothing to your car!"

"Ohhh, I'm sure, yes. Well how about that time you prevented Pierre from dating me?"

That seem to hit a nerve on his side.

"He's my best friend! You're my worst rival! That would just have been awkward"

"SO YOU ADMIT IT! YOU ADMIT THAT PIERRE AND I STAYED IN THE FRIEND ZONE BECAUSE OF YOU!" You scoffed. "And that time I was trying to date Esteban? Yeah- yeah total accident you got him drunk instead, so he ditched me and ended up spending the night with a random girl from Miami? Who he ended up dating for like months?"

"How does this have anything to do with me!?" He exclaimed and you felt your blood boil even more.

"Because! Because you try to ruin my entire life! Because you ruined my date with Lando two days ago!"

"So that's what this rant is all about? You have like zero proof I did anything to your date."

"Really?? Then I wonder who told Carlos that I was busy?"

"I didn’t do anything!"

"Yeah? Then I wonder which Charles who works for Ferrari told him? YOU HAVE TO STOP RUINING MY LIFE! I- WHAT'S YOUR FUCKING PROBLEM-"

Before you could even continue, you felt him pull you by your overalls and kiss you. Kiss you?

KISS YOU?

You were too shocked to kiss back.

"Because I'm in love with you." He blurted out.

You were paralyzed in shock. So shocked that when he pulled away you felt your hand travel by itself to his cheek to slap it, leaving a red mark behind.

"I deserved that" He winced.

"Sorry- I-" You didn't even mean to do it, your hand had travelled itself.

"No, no I deserved it." He rubbed his cheek with the palm of his hand.

"I-"

"OI! Y/n, Charles! Will you stop fighting and GET IN YOUR CARS!"

"Yeah!" You screamed back and awkwardly made eye contact with Charles before blinking the shock out of your eyes and running off.

That might have been the weirdest moment in your entire life.

So weird both you and Charles had a shit practice session. No matter how much you tried - you just couldn't get your mind in the race.

That overwhelming feeling that, as much as you hated Charles - he was always on your mind. So much that you couldn't het him out of it. So much that, as much as you wanted to hate him - you couldn't.

That's when you remembered what your mother had told you.

It was late after the race, on the day of the 'Inchident'. You were so mad at Charles you couldn't focus on the homework your teacher had set you. It had been days since you focused on your races rather than school. It was also your last year of normal school before you would leave for proper driver training.

You were so mad you ended up throwing your books on the floor and complaining to your parents about it.

"WHY! It's not fair! Because of him we're both disqualified! And- and he started acting like NOTHING was wrong. Like he didn't do anything! He's annoying me on purpose!"

Your mother seemed to share a knowing glance with your father.

"Well you know sweetie, sometimes boys act stupid with girls because they have a crush on them."

"EWW- No he doesn't! He's like the most annoying guy I know!"

You remembered feeling horrified at the idea - but at the same time you could never get it out of your mind. And that's what caused your own hatred to burst out.

"Oh my god" You told yourself as you made a turn during practice.

You were both acting like 13 year olds.

You both loved each other so much that it had turned to hate just to suppress these feelings by fear of rejection.

The minute practice was over, you dumped your helmet somewhere to replace it with your cap and started chewing your nails as you waited for Charles to walk out of his Ferrari - impatient on telling him what you had rehearsed in your mind.

"Charles" You walked to confront him - and you could see the panic behind his eyes.

"Look I'm so-"

"Let me talk." you bounced on your heels. "I think we're both very stupid." You plainly stated. "I think that for years we've been hating each other b- b- because-" You couldn't get the sentence out. "Oh fuck it" You whispered to yourself before grabbing his face and bringing him into a kiss.

This time it felt heart warming.

All the anger that had built up for all those years of hating him seemed to melt away in just these few seconds.

You didn't even know how to explain the feeling.

It was better than fire works. It was like removing a rock from your shoe after walking with it for 10 years.

"I love you too." You mumbled once you pulled away - but before he could say something else he brought you back into a kiss, wrapping his arm around your waist.

"Does that mean we finally get to film those c2 challenges?" You heard one of the Ferrari guys scream from behind you - making you pull away from the kiss to laugh.

"Yes."

so rough summary of lestappen without dates because im not that knowledge

so born same year. 13 days apart, both libras

started karting, met there, famous interviews , the famous inchident,

max went to single seaters (? like f3 if im not mistaken, again dont really knowledged about the actual motor sport periods that they went through)

charles remained in karting longer (1?2? years)

max got into f3 then straight to f1 in 2016 so they kinda didnt have tangents till charles came to f1 in 2018

at first, like in charles' rookie year, they were like not really friends? but they were talking in interviews about their karting days and whatnot so they were acknowledging eachother but never more than 2 sentences in an interview or a quick chat in the paddock

now, 2019, whole another story

in 2019 charles got to ferrari so he was in a more competitive car (illegal but still competitive)

so they had some fights on the track

most notably, austria 2019, imo the moment lestappen actually started (well the inchident can also be considered a start but i think austria 2019 is more, hm, important? a spark formed there between them so)

so austria. austria would have been the race where charles would have gotten his first win in f1. the place he could prove he deserved the seat at ferrari. but it was already doomed when max made his appearance. i cant recall correctly what happened, and honestly i dont care who pushed off track who and who was in the right, all that matters is that charles was pissed and furious while looking so tempted to murder max on the podium.

charlie boy didnt even spared a glance at max when he was celebrating with champagne, on top of the world, he literally left stomping away.

the thing is, its funny how 2 grown man, who knew each other for such a long time, acted so childish, charles being so annoyed and max being so stubborn and not admitting that he could have done wrong

naturally, they unfollowed eachother on instagram. you know, like adults

but the real and actual hilarious part is that after the race, they both went back home (monaco), in the same plane, so you can guess that there was, aham, tension

but anyway, later that season, charles got his wins and max was getting whatever he could (2019, not a really good year for redbull but what can you do)

this weird tension and rivalry got to a point where, when in the pandemic, when every driver was doing streams on twitch while sim racing (including these two), they got to play together at some point. the drivers were planning virtual races with eachother, and playing games with eachother. everyone got along and it was all fun. our 2 main characters werent exactly on speaking terms so in most cases they would ask lando to send eachother messages and memes (not frequently but we do know at some point they did ask lando to send stuff to the other)

in 2020 i actually dont remember anything well big happening between them

2021 of course was kinda busy for max because of the championship battle with lewis but if i remember correctly at some point charles praised max and called him talented and a part of his childhood and his rival. honestly i was busy that season, being more focused on the battle so i didnt follow charles and his interviews

now 2022 comes

the year of our lord, 2022

ferarri? a compromising car

redbull? reliability issues (at the start of the season)

mercedes? fucking terrible, was clearly not a contender

of course the fate made them two the main rivals of this season

so the battle started strong between lestappen, because what do you expect from 2 people who entire narration of their lives is that they are childhood rivals

charles won the first couple of races, at some point expanding his lead with 50 or something points ahead of max

it honestly looked like an truly iconic title fight, but fuck ferrari and their management of everything and so im not gonna talk about how much they screwed up and got me cursing them out every race. im not. ...

ok so notable lestappen 2022 moments

austria 2022. man everyone called the podium celebrating soft porn and i cant agree more. just. how

every podium they shared and every cooldown room and every Thursday media day they shared. they just delivered something. everytime they got together

oh and maxplain. it started simple really. max had some issues with the car and charles asked what happened after the race and thats how maxplaining was born.

they started to share their opinions on every aspect of the race (well mostly max, charles was content to just listening. which, slay, let your man nerd out)

they started to speak highly of each other so frequently, so much, every race, if they got the chance to talk about the other they would do it

they would joke about their childhood and about how they actually deeply disliked eachother , about how they grew up and started to replace that dislike with respect and understanding and sympathy.

i just cant put into words how interesting their relationship is, how interesting they develop still to this day

max talked about how they would be racing for another 10 15 year together

its so, poetic? took out straight out of a book

they are so iconic frfr.

ugh 2023 has been so lame without the weekly lestappen propaganda

so i cant wait for them to get to race again as they did in 2022

i went and watched the austria 2019 and 2022 podiums and i cannot make this shit up literally typing it out just feels like fanfic, it feels poetic. the CONTRAST with their worst and best moment being at the same race? jesus
