Can I still love the Bridgertons and also acknowledge that That One Scene in The Duke & I is essentially r*pe? Yes! Can I hate that concept and therefore feel uncomfortable about the book in general? You know it! Can I decide to erase that scene from existence in my mind because it was wildly out of character and I don’t think Julia Quinn realized the implications of what she was writing & the way the scene came out seems accidental & she was young and trying to be dramatic? Of course! Can I know that and still not forgive her for it? For sure! Can I separate that scene (as well as Simon’s frequent weirdness like when he talks about her being his property ??) from my idea of them in my head? Yes!! Can I still love Daphne and Simon as characters the way the are in the epilogues & other books? Yes!!!! Can I still love Julia Quinn? ABSO FUCKIN LUTELY !!!!!

ⒷⓄⓄⓀ ⓇⒺⓋⒾⒺⓌ The duke and I (Bridgerton book#1) Author: Julia Quinn Genre: Romance, Historical fiction My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ Qotd: Do you like Romance books? Aotd: Romance has never been the genre for me. Once again I had to have it proved. Well honestly, the starting of the story was not that bad. The introduction to Bridgerton family, to the heroine Daphne and the hero Simon was quite interesting. The witty banter between Daphne and Simon was also fun to read, and Anthony's silly tactics were quite good too. But everything started to loose it's sense after Daphne suddenly discovered she loved Simon. She pestered Simon into loving her, became a silly whiny character and actually raped her husband (Simon) at one point! Yes in my opinion you still need the consent even if the roles are reversed. Of course the story ended on a happy note, usually all sappy romance stories do. Overall, all the issues between the husband and wife could've been avoided with just some open conversations, but the story had to choose the harder path. This was just my opinion after reading the story. Please don't think I am trying to demean the author or the story in any way.
