idk i feel like most stories where they’re depicted it’s like..they’re all fluffy and cute and stuff and it just makes me 😞😞 bc i want a horror romance that is in touch with how canonically they are.

Chapter 1- your arrival

I assume that since you’re here, you felt guided by something. A bird, a line in the sand, a fox in the forest. Something guided you here. You know that, you feel it. I’m sure you feel the odd energy around here too.

If you haven’t heard the stories before, this is our mansion. My home. A place I was taken in by my mythical father, Slenderman.

Now, as you are reading this, I know you were drawn here. For what reason I’m not sure, regardless I’m going to answer your questions before your body rejects what drew you here in the first place.

You are here for a reason.

What we do is simple. We hurt those who took advantage of the weak and vulnerable, people who were once like me and we give them strength.

We, as in Slender and I. Though I take credit for the idea.

One thing I’ve read and noticed about people was that trauma bonded people. As the ages progressed, people have gone through phases of hatred and alliances. It was complicated, yet intriguing to watch how people could connect.

This knowledge gave me an idea, I could find those wounded and scarred, take care of them and create some sort of safe heaven. Like what Slender did with me.

He approved of the idea and almost immediately we found one of the wounded; Laughing Jack. He followed with other supernatural beings.

I admit at first that we were brutal and messy, like how beginner businesses typically are though. It’s water under the bridge, really.

Regardless, why you were lured here and what to do now?

Well, once I’m done talking with you, if you agree, Jane and Kate will start training. For why you were lured here, it’s because you probably belong here.

Through the pain of your past, you got dirty and ended up here. I’m here to offer you a deal. You have the opportunity to hurt the offenders that lurk in the shadows in turn for immortality and housing.

Yes, the method is considered unlawful, but they don’t understand the pain of being at the brunt end.

So, for a home, immortality and possibly friends, would you join?

Read for yes;

Well then, at this moment we will enter the mansion. You will wait at the entry and take your shoes off.

Two girls— Kate and Jane will take hold of you from then forward. They will give you a tour and do introductions. In a week from now, there’ll be a ceremonial party of your recruitment.

No one else will know you until the ceremony except for I, Kate and Jane.

Afterwards, Slender will test you with an assignment. If you do not pass this assignment, you will be benched and trained. If you run away during the assignment, all your memories of everything will be wiped.

Be wary, Casanova. Your first weeks here will be rough, however after awhile you’ll find that you’d rather be here. With the family you will find certain acceptance that cures the lonely part of you that drew you here in the first place.

Good luck, you’ll need it.

Well, unfortunately you’re going to have to go now. Once you wake up you will remember nothing of this encounter or anything of yourself. You’re likely to not become much of anything in this day and age.

If you’ve already killed someone, wether it be your family or someone around you is not our business. You will likely get caught and you will end up in jail or die. Again, this is not our business and we can’t help you anymore. You had your chance and you lost it.

I can’t help you any longer past this moment. Shut your eyes.

convinced that the Doctor started looking into alternative forms of science/physics because he faced off with the Toymaker again. i think that after feeling so helpless when exposed to the Toymaker's reality-bending powers, learning the language of rope and the science of luck and coincidence are the Doctor's preparation to fight the Toymaker's legions (whoever the might be). these may be the Doctor's best weapons against the Toymaker and other beings which don't conform to the laws of the primary universe 👀

Mel showing up was such a good surprise i loved her. I already knew the Toymaker was gonna be amazing especially because he was gonna be played by Neil Patrick Harris but OMG. The different accents??? I just know that my swiss-german oma would have lost her shit over his german accent it was amazing.

Donna was so iconic, she was not taking any of the toy makers shit. The flashing backs that they showed when the doctor recognized the toy maker sent chills down my spine. Also when the toy maker was talking about amy and clara and bill??? like omg.

I spent 3 weeks preparing for david to regenerate again, and i still wasn’t ready. I was literally talking to my dad and was like “i’m gonna start bawling when he regenerates i’m not ready” and then 5 minutes later 15 JUST APPEARED OUT OF HIS SIDE LIKE A CONJOINED TWIN WTF

I LOVES 15 IN THIS SPECIAL HES LITERALLY EVERYONES MOM FRIEND “I love you, you need to stop” AHHHHH GIRL WAS SO SASSY I LOVE HIM IM SO EXCITED FOR HIS SEASONS OMG

14 and 15 teaming up was so perfect in every way. They were literally chaotic twins and Donna was their older sister

My friend and I were talking about bigeneration and I had a thought— what if the Curator is in 14’s line, not 15’s? And what if 14’s line can ONLY use old faces now. AND, what if he has to go in backwards order??

So when he regenerates, it’s back to 13’s face. She spends that whole lifetime with Yaz. And with each new life he gets a new career, and when it’s 4’s face he knows it’s time to be the Curator.

#I hated The Giggle a lot less the second time. I’m still processing stuff but those rough moments were less rough #when I watched with an overall lore lens rather than a meta lens #remove the rtd choices and let it be the doctor’s story #I have another post I need to make about the fact that he cut the toymaker off when he was talking about the flux #maybe to save himself from having to talk about Yaz because it still hurts #and 14 and 15 didn’t need to mention Yaz to each other. they mention Sarah Jane and Rose because Donna met them #(did he mention River? Just rewatched The Celestial Toymaker and I think I had somewhat underrated it in my memory. It's not the most exciting, but the way the Toymaker and his world work is actually really well pitched.

One of the most effective parts of the story is the way his toys work. They play against Dodo and Steven, often cheating or being otherwise difficult, but they're people under there. It's ambiguous whether they had lives before they were toys - it's certainly possible, given that the threat is that our main characters might become like them - but Dodo points out that they do have personalities of their own even if they were created as toys. All they want is to be allowed to keep living. They don't want to go back to the toybox. The clowns becoming solemn when they realise they might lose is the first time this is evident, but perhaps the best moment is the "if we go, we go together" between the playing card king and queen. It makes you feel for these people trapped within the Toymaker's world!

The Toymaker himself is also such a good villain. His motivations make complete sense, and even when he's lost at the end, I really believe he doesn't care about losing his world; he just wants to spite the Doctor for beating him. He's also just a fantastically menacing presence, with a really effective, reigned-in performance. It makes me worry slightly just how big a performance NPH looks to be giving in the upcoming episode, but I'll withhold judgement till I've actually seen it. (I also wonder how they'll handle his face having changed, since he's not a Time Lord. Though for a character with the power to bring toys to life, changing his appearance is probably not all that difficult.)

I also love that the Doctor has clearly met the Toymaker before, and that we don't learn when or how or why. It's just allowed to be a relationship with an obscured past, somewhat proto-Master. And, of course, as the Doctor says, "there will be other meetings in an other time." Indeed there will, Doctor!

Things I've noticed

I've noticed a few things that are related to each other with Trelane and the Toymaker.

•they both are outside of the universe.

•they both like games. Though Trelane probably doesn't do card games I'd assume he knows how to do so and they both say they are "makers of the game" though trelane doesn't say that but he just acts like every game he'd play he'd say he made it.

•disappearing and reappearing. They both can disappear and reappear at will when they want to and where they want too.

•Accents. They both can switch accents but as toymaker usually switches it but Trelane prefers his British accent. Trelane can do German and French like how Toymaker can.

•Dancing. They both like to dance but in different styles like how Trelane does a calm one while Toymaker is everywhere when he dances.

•Energy. They both have like a energetic type of energy.

•Dressing style. Only one of his styles are kinda like trelanes and I'd say the band one but just because they both wear tailcoats and that's it.

These were just some random things I noticed.

I wish there was a way to hide what I wanna say for people who haven’t seen it but I unfortunately don’t think so,

Okay so, the toymaker was amazing! I loved seeing Ncuti, and I’m genuinly so excited for his stuff! I was a lil disappointed by the specials, they didn’t really feel like a celebration of the show, they felt like an expression for s4, if that makes any sense??

god i've got mixed feelings on that episode and it really annoys me bc it's the right kind of fun ridiculous episode that i should love and yet. hm. like first off the toy maker was sooo good, i love a campy villain and his whole vibe was spot on. ncuti really feels like the doctor to me, like he nails the vibe right away and i'm kinda disappointed we didn't see more of him in the episode. also your so right about them feeling more like parts of series 4 than general specials like ik they brought back the meep and the toymaker but to me it felt like when they brought back the macra in s3. like. modern episode but also these old guys are back. which isn't a bad thing it's just not the vibe I think they were aiming for. imo they should've focused wayyy more on ncuti's doctor, like this is his introduction, this is where he makes his first mark as the doctor but he's stuck playing second fiddle to 14 and it does a bit of a disservice to him.

#dw spoilers #i think the card game should've happened really early. like maybe before the doctor knew it was the toymaker #and he only works it out after he's lost but he still pulls the 'best of three' rule. and the toymakers like. ok. and stabs him or w/e #and he starts to regenerate (normally) into 15. and the toymakers like 'the next version of you owes me one more game' and #fucks off to wreak havoc. the rest of the story is 15 trying to find his identity and work out how to beat the toymaker #idk i've been inhaling bus fumes for 2 hours i just wanted more of 15

Generally think anyone insisting that the N-Word should be kept in the animated version of The Celestial Toymaker should be studied on why the fuck they need to hear the N-Word so badly.

#if anyones curious we finally got it confirmed they will be animating the celestial toymaker story from first doctor era #but you know just like other episodes in classic who it has a iffy moment #aka during one of the toymaker's games #the king of hearts recites a version of the counting game eeny meeny miny moe #and uh in the second line includes the n word #and obviously with 2023 and the animated version #its being believed and hoped for this will be removed #but for some reason you got people insisitng on it being kept in #and its just....why #like generally why #generally need to know why they wanna hear the n word so badly

act 3 is so overwhelming 😩 i am kind of lost in which order to do stuff since there are always timed quests that fail after some amount of long rests 🥲

#are you supposed to go to gortash's inaguration as soon as you cross wyrms fortress?? ive got the pass from that toymaker dude #i went there as to check what happens and gortash tells me about that orin might've infiltrated my camp #i go to lower city and quickly long rest 2 times and she disguised as lae'zel and kidnapped her😰#< i just get overwhelmed and do long rests when i want to fast forward and see what happens and then reload and try to pace my playthru #is there a way to not trigger the kidnapping until at least i do some sidequests??#i really feel like i should deal with orin after gortash she seems much more dangerous to me and story wise #but if i go to gortash's coronation he said to deal with her first abd so i am torn #but i also dont want to kill neither of them cause they are very entertaining villains too 👉👈🥺#but im playing as a goodie tav so i cant not deal with them of course #i also rushed to cazador's palace and tried to fight him i guess i need at least 1 level more to deal with him 😵‍💫#so i reloaded again 💀😩#maybe i should take a break from this game idkvcmccmvmz #bg3 spoilers
