It’s that time of year!
That’s Right, it’s DECEMBER. Which means the Salvation Army is gonna be out in force, ringing bells and collecting spare change in shopping malls the world over!
So this is your Annual Reminder that the Salvation Army is Not A Charity! It’s a Church with a Kettle-Shaped Collection Plate!
And What a church it is! While the SA does operate charitable enterprises, they don’t have the same reporting requirements as Charities That Aren’t Churches. So we really have no way of knowing how the money we put in those kettles gets spent! And on top of that, they’ve fought Tooth And Nail for decades to maintain the Legal Right to tell people in need to Go Fuck Themselves if Jesus doesn’t like ‘em!
And who does Jesus not like? That’s Queer People babeeeey! The SA has opposed every law or policy advancing the rights of queer people that they’ve ever heard of! From a 1997 San Francisco law requiring city business partners to provide domestic benefits to employees, to a 1986 New Zealand law that made it Legal To Be Gay, they’ve fought them all!
So this year, don’t give those Homophobic Santas a dime! Instead, join the Skeleton Army! And give to a local Non-Religious Charity to Do The Most Good!

The S.O.A.P. Bible Study Method:
The Salvation Army writes:
“S.O.A.P. stands for Scripture, Observation, Application and Prayer.
It is a way of getting more out of your time in God's Word. The S.O.A.P method of Bible Study (for individuals or small groups) does not require a theology degree or special leadership skills. This method is simple and very easy to reproduce.
The acronym means that anyone can remember and participate in the 4 step process. In using this tool individuals can be convinced that they can read, understand and study God's Word for themselves. The greatest thing about this tool is that we can grow in hearing the voice of God.
SCRIPTURE: Read and write down the scripture as per the verse of the day following this SOAP guide.
OBSERVATION: Pray the prayer “God, why did You write this?” Write down what you hear.
APPLICATION: Pray and ask “God how would You like me to apply this verse into my life?” Write down what you hear.
PRAYER: Write out a prayer to God based on what you just learned and ask him to help you apply this truth in your life.”
The video below is not from the Salvation Army, but it demonstrates the S.O.A.P. Bible study method. Amen! 🙌

I just saw a post about salvation army and their anti-lgbtq+ views and what-not. Along with some comments to tell others not to donate.
I understand where many come from as I have many friends in the lgbtq+ community along with family as well. But my family and I have received much help from the Salvation Army when we lost our home and our memories from a terrible fire. Without them, we wouldn't have any clothing, food, or support when we needed it most.
My father, who has raised my brother and I since we were babies, living on food stamps and his small disability check, and barely getting any money from our mother for child support and home-schooling us. My brother, who was a toddler when this all happened. And myself, just under the age of ten experiencing loosing my home for a second time in my life.
The Salvation Army along with our local fire department came together to create care packages for my family. Fill backpacks with basic school supplies and books to study out of and help bring some sort of comfort to our lives. Give us clothes that were donated from friends and donors while we tried rebuilding our lives. And help us with finding a new home so we were not homeless again.
After that, every year, we donated to those ringing the bells and with their red buckets. Because without organizations like them, I know that my family and I would be having a much harder time. Yeah, what had happened a few years back is not right and fair. But they are working to right their wrongs. I know I'll probably get backlash. But I am not turning my back on those who helped my family and I when we lost everything.
Help those who are less fortunate. If you want to donate, go right on ahead. If not, that's fine too. But don't tell people what to do with their donations this holiday season. And don't ever physically or verbally harass or assult those who ring the bells or ask for donations. They are doing a service to help those in need.
Maybe they will help you when you need it most.

"Badwill" could've a been conceptual thrift store, but the Salvation Army already exists. I worked for them last summer, was at their stores in Edmond and Moore Oklahoma every single weekend. If you want $7 gratuity pay as they work you 40+ hours a week in their men's rehab while exploiting slave labor and not teaching you anything whatsoever about substance abuse alternatives nor having one-on-one counseling, be my guest.
I love how they are so willing to help but I can't even list my tenure in their Oklahoma City warehouse on job applications because it was "Work Therapy", whatever the fuck that means. Anyone who has ever had an entry level job doesn't need that. They need reasons to stay sober.
I wouldn't recommend their Celebrate Recovery program to someone who is having withdrawal tremors or is homeless. They have an open door policy and even though they're poised Christians, don't give a damn about your outcome or not. Those work journals they require you to complete? I've literally seen them thrown into the trash. And that's why I left. Twice.

If part of what you do is promote bigotry, that's what you do. Everything else is an excuse for that thing you do.

A Quiet Goodbye
By Bud Koenemund For Eva Gaither (9 September 1943 – 24 May 2022)   I hold little faith in humanity, or in humans. But, I just said goodbye to one of the finest human beings I’ve ever met; one who has known me – quite literally – my whole life. She is one of the very few people who could ignore my “no hugs” rule and survive.   It seems strange to write this on Memorial Day, when the one I memorialize did not serve in the military. She did, however, fight battles. Her combat took place on a much different field – the spiritual. She fought for hearts and souls across the world.   If I am wrong – and for her sake, I hope I am – and there is such a place, Eva Gaither is now in Heaven.

So just a random rant about the salvation army cuz I want to.
This is only about the church and youth programs, I'm not talking about the social services not donations or anything thing else, as I don't have personal experience with it. Also keep in mind I'm NOT christan, so that's obviously a bias.
Excuse me for being unorganized but this is going through most my life so I'm just typing as it comes up. Also the salvation army is split into divisions, so I'm only talking about the Kentucky Tennessee one, also I'm not getting too personal so obviously we're not gonna talk about some things
So I recently left the church after going there my entire life, and here's what I have to say about it: yes I agree it's a cult, from the sermons that I actually listened too, they preach an "us the Christians vs the world" type shit. They also act like Christians are repressed (we're in the fucking bible belt of the US).
However the youth programs do good for kids, and one set of preachers (they rotate preachers every like two years) actually got one of my friends and their family out of a really bad home situation. The preachers in my experience are really hit or miss. I've met some really good friends there, and I've met people I've absolutely despise.

"We continue this tradition to this day with stupendous community volunteers and countless generous businesses. This fundraiser not only feeds those in need, but is here to take incredible financial pressures off both recipient organizations. The Salvation Army and the Cranbrook Food Bank give assistance year-round to those in our community, and our Turkey Drive allows them to focus on what they do best: helping individuals and families in our community." - READ MORE OVER HERE
