Prompt 21: The Fine Print

Prompt 21: Solution - FFXIV Write 2022 Characters: Edarien and Seviere, with Louvel @louvel-roche

The world illuminates in soft shadows and clouded memories when he delves into the abyssal layer. This flow of darkness and muted emotions intertwined with the waking world welcomes his presence with starving arms. His is an old soul, worn into the darkness, embedded in the flow and spreading his mind out through the abyssal weave is a simple enough task. Somewhere out there is a wounded wolf.

The first prick of light he finds belongs to the Moth. White wings fluttering behind him and anxious hands patting over the second flicker of light. He almost missed that life’s flame, wavering so thinly he wondered a moment if he was too late.

Darkness seeps from beneath shadowy tree boughs and crooked roots, threads coalescing into a tall, lean form of a dark-haired duskwight. Ash grey skin stretches over muscle and bones and crystalline blue eyes focus on the crumpled figure beneath the Moth’s hands. The drape of shadow black robes cascade over his figure, stretching out like fingers behind him when he strides forwards the last few paces.

“Seviere.” The mage murmurs, a hand falling firm on one of the bard’s shoulders. “Help me carry him deeper.”

The caverns are quiet and dim, filled with silent eyes watching the procession make their way far below the Shroud. The cavern they want is hidden beneath illusions and old magic, veils easily parting for the trio to admit them. Here in this place lies a lake of dark water, shadow filled and glacier cold. The water here doesn’t pour so much as it creeps black across the flesh.

The Moth and the Mage see their prize to the shore. They remove the trappings of life from him, strip him of garments, weapons, and leave him bare on the stones with the water lapping at his feet. The Moth steps back, his angelic voice rising in a song that fills the cavern, and echoes back creating a melody of blended voices.

The Mage gathers the wolf into his arms, gaze sliding down the furred limbs, the wound weeping in his chest. The slow rasp of his breath and the trickle of blood from his lips mark how little time they have left to complete this ritual. He drags the wolf into the waters. Dark hands rise to drag the body down. The mage allows this, his figure bobbing effortlessly in the cloying lake.

Water rushes into the wolf’s mouth and nose, into his ears, drowns him and obliterates any sense he had left to him. Although the mage doubts the wolf’s ability for true awareness in his state. In the end, he’s as much a creature of the abyssal dark as any of their clan was. His service too needed to allow a simple bullet to reduce him to ash and dust. The Mage’s voice joins the Moth’s song, power weaving through the words chanted by the pair.

Some wonder how the fine print on Priarch’s employment contracts reads as it does. Life is a finite thing, isn’t it? A soul merely vapor to return to the world as usable aether just like the body returns to the soil to enrich the next generation of life. Wishful thinking most likely, a simple threat to remind them to not be idle while working. So easy to laugh off and sign on the dotted line. The gil is insanely good for an adventurer’s agreement.

But there in the darkness the Elders slumber no more. Old things crawl out in recognizable skins with claws curved to wicked points and teeth hungering to add more to their devout. Hear the call of their wolves and know the Hunter has awakened to do their bidding.

Now sign the contract. The gil is insanely good.

old sketch from march I decided to finish <3 usually when one of my sketches (intending to become a completed drawing) gets put on the backburner, it never surfaces. I usually have to prioritize other drawings and then months or years pass and once I have time, I lose interest and start other drawings in their place... but I'm glad I mustered up the energy to finish this one, ESPECIALLY since I strongly felt I needed more gothic pieces in my gallery hehe

the relationships between characters in this series are so interesting, because there are so many character parallels. I actually had to change the personality of white alice from the sketch to the final, since I .. think I misinterpreted her story! (so I think it turned out less gothic horror than desired but you know what I'll take this <3) I first read this story when I was 14 and I 1000% BET I'll still be finding nuances and new details in the writing years into the future...

I had a lot of fun with the animation albeit just being a blink animation 😩👍 but blinks can be animated in a variety of ways! in terms of my animation skills, I do consider myself on the weaker side. so if i can integrate more animation frames into my illustrations, it'll help me become more familiar and comfortable with the medium. I especially like the difference in how many frames it takes for dark Alice vs white Alice to blink. I think the blinks came out fluidly and I'm quite satisfied with how this drawing came out!

To start off, they don’t mind pot. They know the real story, and how the government hides it. This said, they don’t necessarily have an opinion on it — it’s weed, nothing wrong or right about it.

However, they also don’t condone it, as they like you awake. But if you do it, you do it and hey, they get to see a side of you that nobody else does, and you quickly become a doofus.

To say they love your giggly and cuddly side is an understatement. All of them chuckle when they come home, seeing you laid down on the couch with reddened eyes. They love to plop you on their lap, laugh at your weird and not-in-the-moment-thinking conversations and ask you dumb shit, just to see your reactions.

Soap can be a little shit, especially when you do a joint. He likes to ask deep-conversational questions, loving how your nose crinkles when thinking of it. And when you stutter, he loves to lean in and say: “Hm? Didn’t catch ‘at, sweetheart.”

To be honest, they all love to take advantage of you. Seeing you all calm and welcoming makes their dark heart darker than ever.

Simon likes to ask you questions with promises, such as marriage, or even kids. Watching your reaction, and smiling with soft touches. And when the next day comes, asking if you remember them, and if you don’t? He’s hurt. Those promises were real, weren’t they?

Honestly, Kyle and Price are worriers. Even though they know the side effects are normal, they worry like hens; constantly checking your head with the back of their hand or making you drink water to stay hydrated, as if you’re sick.

As for Johnny, he’s in the middle — but still a little shit. He laughs when you laugh, even at the horrible jokes, and tries to make you stay in the ‘high state’ because it’s cute.

#kingdom hearts dream drop distance #khddd #the world that never was #scenery #my gif #i really love how sora's side of this world is dark and eerie and fully leans into how dreams can distort and twist reality #the city looks mostly normal at first aside from the ghostly fog that seeps down from buildings and drifts along the floor and rises up #but as you keep going the ground beneath you is no longer a street but rather the faces of more buildings that stretch over an abyss #it's no longer the sprawling city you first arrived in but instead an uncanny one way path towards your destination #the buildings now twist and contort and are crooked and grow out of the ground in all kinds of ways that make no logical sense #it's the first time that a sleeping world looks easily distinguishable from the real world. it looks wrong. like a nightmare #meanwhile riku's half contrasts heavily by appearing to be fairly normal #the interior of the real castle never made any practical sense so nothing here feels too out of place compared to how it usually looks #it shows how much more in control riku is in comparison to how sora is losing his grip on reality as he descends further into their trap #cool stuff! love me some environmental storytelling #also i finished giffing every world in this game yippee i'm done (is covered head to toe in blood)
