Everybody say ‘Thank you Andreil’ for never hurting each other.
can you believe that. i’m not talking about the racquet hit or the eden’s drugging fiasco. i’m saying they never hurt the mind and the heart. and even–the hit to the stomach was when they literally had never met. and the drugging was not about Neil; it was all about Andrew. there was no relationship whatsoever even formed. there was no choking incident like with Kevin.
i’m saying there was never any of the romance tropes used to create angst. no love triangle. no cheating. no bet. no manipulation. no backstab. no running away. no miscommunication. no lies.
think about all the couples you’ve ever read or watched. the best and the worst. the mainstream and the niche. think about it.
they had all the knives. all the opportunities. but not a single time did they take advantage, in any way. no physical, emotional, psychological, or sexual violence & abuse, never ever.
do you know how comforting that is? how safe it makes me feel? because that means that through them, I was never hurt. they didn’t cause me any torment. they were not the reason I cried for 2 weeks straight every single day after I finished the series; the world they live in did.
and by the way. across 3 books, they did not find it in themselves to hurt one another. it was not necessary to keep things interesting. let me repeat that: it was unnecessary to the plot to add violence within their relationship.
and that is the skill Nora Sakavic possesses. that is the power she holds. that’s what makes her the best, the favorite, the beloved, the mastermind, the poet, the one true author.
so I say thank you, Andreil.
Thank you, Miss Sakavic.

and that's how it works
a co-worker au. based on the prompt: kiss out of spite. ~2.4k.
Alex can’t stand him from the start.
He tries not to actively dislike any co-workers, as a general rule. It takes effort, and time, neither of which he wants to spend on this guy—unless said work has been affected, which, Alex has to admit that it hasn’t.
But there’s something about him that rubs Alex the wrong way the moment they get introduced.
He’s hard-working, Alex supposes, and the quality of the work isn’t lacking. He’s punctual, and to-the-point in his emails. None of those things are an issue. He does make a habit of helping himself to Alex’s office supplies, but a few missing staples and running out of printer paper don’t exactly justify a grudge.
The guy’s personality is, objectively, annoying. He has the worst taste in ties, which to Alex says a lot, and he can’t go more than five minutes without alluding to his pedigree in some way (Alex knows this because he and Nora have made a drinking game out of it at work functions).
Still, it doesn’t explain the weird surge of resentment he gets every time he looks at the guy. And not understanding it might be the most annoying part of all.
He just wishes he knew why.
.
Alex works in the legal department, but the coffee’s way better in HR down the hall, so most mornings he’s using their break room. Most mornings, and at lunchtime too, and in the afternoons more than once until Nora starts cutting him off, which. Fair.
Apparently he’s not the only one who’s discovered HR’s superior coffee, though, because he’s always there too, and always at the same time as Alex. Seriously, can he not? It’s bad enough that they share a cubicle. Now Alex has to suffer the insult of watching him fucking microwave his coffee like some kind of sociopath, too?
“Are you following me?” Alex demands to know one morning, a little ridiculously. He’s aware that HR is not the best place to be throwing accusations around, but he’s kind of had it with this guy. “Because—”
At that exact moment, the door is opening, and Henry Fox is walking into the room.
“Oh, hey,” says Alex.
Henry glances at him the way he always does, that is to say, a little bemused as to what Alex is doing here. But Henry had been his point person when he was hired six months ago, so he must know Alex works here, right? Besides, he’s been coming to drink their coffee every day of those past six months now, and he knows Henry knows this because their breaks usually overlap and the way Henry barely says two words to him half the time is starting to feel kind of personal.
“It’s Alex,” says Alex, because, well, just in case.
“Yes, I’m aware,” says Henry. After a beat that’s long enough to get awkward, he says, “Err. Right then.”
And then he smiles and waves at Hunter, who isn’t even supposed to be here either, and walks over to take the seat Hunter has saved him like they’re all in fucking high school.
Hunter says something smarmy about a new art gallery or what-the-fuck-ever he went to last night, using a slightly too-loud voice that’s clearly meant to be overheard. Alex grits his teeth.
“Oh, I’ve been meaning to go,” says Henry. “What did you think?”
Alex scowls. Fuck, he fucking hates Hunter.
.
“So how’s the transfer going?” asks Hunter one day.
Alex jerks involuntarily and splashes hot coffee all over his hand. “Motherfucker,” he says, and then, because his filter is fully shot now anyway, he glances over at Henry. “You’re transferring? Like, jobs?”
“Oh. Um. No. Departments,” says Henry. Alex supposes that’s all he’s getting—four whole words must be some kind of record—but then Henry continues. “To editing. Starting first thing next week.”
“Oh,” says Alex. “Cool. That’s…a big move.” Literally. That’s, like, whole floors away. He opens the freezer door with his good hand, and wonders what the coffee tastes like up there in editing, if it would be weird to find out sometime. He grabs a fistful of ice.
“Yes,” Henry is saying. “It will be quite the change, and I—wait. Sorry.” He stands abruptly, and Alex stares in surprise as Henry comes over and stops right in front of him. “Please put the ice down.”
“Um,” says Alex. “O…kay?”
“You should use lukewarm water,” says Henry. “Cool, at best. For your hand.”
“Oh,” says Alex. “Right. Thanks.” He turns to the sink, feeling weirdly aware of the fact that Henry is still standing there. “It’s too bad,” Alex says before Henry can decide to sit down next to Hunter again. “Kind of a big loss for HR.”
Henry’s brows knit back together. “Is it?”
Alex shrugs. “To my knowledge, no one else personally escorts new employees to their cubicles on the first day of work. Like you did with Hunter here, for example.” He levels Henry with a grin. “I was there when you showed him around, in case you don’t remember.”
Henry’s expression is inscrutable. “I do,” he says.
Alex makes a point to not look away. “Guess that wasn’t a thing back when I started.”
“Ah,” says Henry. He’s flushing for some reason now. “No, I suppose not.”
Alex considers him. He can’t decide if Henry’s playing dumb, or if he really doesn’t remember that he’d been the one to help hire Alex. Then he decides he doesn’t care, because both options make him feel like something on the bottom of Hunter’s shoe, which he hates.
“Think I’m gonna head back.” Alex looks expectantly at Hunter, who only lifts his mug like he’s still planning on being a while. Fucking fine.
He can still see the two of them through the glass pane in the door when Nora walks by with a stack of folders.
“You okay?” she asks, in a tone that says she’s guessed the answer.
“Fucking no,” says Alex anyway. “What are they even doing? Talking?”
Nora sneaks a peek through the window. “Appears so,” she deadpans. “Talking in the break room. Unbelievable.”
“I know, right?” Alex scowls, then realizes he’s left without his coffee, which makes him scowl even harder.
Nora sighs, then slips her free arm through his. “Let’s walk.”
“Do you think Hunter likes him?” asks Alex. Because—not that he’s spent a lot of time on this—Alex thinks that Hunter does, and nothing is worse than the thought of Henry liking him back because he doesn’t know any better.
Maybe Alex should say something.
Nora is looking sideways at him. Alex isn’t sure why. “I think what Hunter likes is people with a pedigree,” she says. “Anyway, what’s not to like? Henry’s a snack.”
“What?” says Alex. Objectively, Henry looks a bit like an Adonis, but, “That is so beside the point. And just because Hunter’s like Harvard royalty or whatever doesn’t give him the right to come in here and trick people into liking him when—”
“When you were here first?” Nora supplies.
“What?” Now Nora is really missing the point. “This has nothing to do with me, or with Henry. I just meant, like, you know. In general.”
“Right,” says Nora. “I must have misunderstood.”
.
Alex keeps going back to the break room, of course. The coffee’s still better, and he can keep bothering Nora even though she’s transferring soon too (to marketing two floors down, the traitor). None of those things have changed just because Henry is no longer there every day.
The one thing that does change, Alex notices with a dark kind of satisfaction, is that Hunter does not go back to the break room. In fact, he starts bringing his own coffee each morning (Starbucks, which seems very on-brand). If anything, Alex only has more reason now to escape to HR and not spend any more time around Hunter than necessary.
About a week after Henry’s transfer, Alex realizes he’s used the last of the break room’s cinnamon. Again. Goddamn it, he thinks. He’s just spent the morning in back-to-back meetings, he’s getting his coffee hours later than usual, and now this?
He rifles through the cupboards for a second and then a third time just in case there's a rogue bottle somewhere. “Fuck me,” he mutters.
“What’s the occasion?” comes a voice from the door, and Alex turns to find Henry leaning against it. His arms are crossed, and he’s doing that chin-tilty thing that apparently means Alex has zero control over what comes out of his mouth.
“What are you doing here?” Alex blurts.
Henry raises an eyebrow. “I could’ve been asking you the same thing for the past six months or so, but I haven’t.” He uncrosses his arms and comes over. “Would you believe me if I said I came here for the coffee?”
“No,” says Alex, with absolute certainty. “You don’t drink coffee.”
Henry blinks. “I could,” he argues after a moment, then straightens a little. “In fact, maybe I planned to start today.”
“Uh huh.” Alex gestures for him to have at the machine. “Do you even know how to use it?”
“Can’t be that difficult,” says Henry. He gives the machine a dubious look, and Alex doesn’t mean to but he starts to laugh.
“Here, I got it. Was about to make some for myself anyway.”
“Ah.” Henry looks abashed suddenly. Even the tips of his ears have turned pink. “Suppose you’ll be wanting this, then.” He pulls a ground cinnamon bottle from his pants pocket.
Alex shakes his head in disbelief. He could actually kiss Henry right now. “How did you—?”
“Well, you were running low last I was here,” says Henry, like that’s a totally normal thing to have noticed when Alex has never seen him touch the spice rack once. “Figured you'd be out by now, so I nicked some from the break room upstairs. No one’s been using it there anyway.”
The shock on Alex’s face makes him backtrack. “Sorry,” he says, flushing an even deeper pink now. “I—didn’t know you’d be here. You’re usually, um. Earlier. I can return it, if you’d like.” He says all this in a rush.
“No, it’s great,” Alex says emphatically. “Don’t you dare take it back.” He’s still staring a little, but that can’t be helped. Henry knows how he likes his coffee. And Henry had planned to restock the cinnamon without Alex ever knowing.
Henry clears his throat, looking around them. “You didn’t bring Hunter with you today,” he notes.
“No,” says Alex immediately. “God, no. And I don’t bring him anywhere, he just. Shows up. Honestly, I can’t stand the guy.” Shit. Maybe he shouldn’t have said that.
“Oh, thank Christ,” Henry says, looking immensely relieved. “Now that I don’t work in HR anymore, can I just say how little I enjoy his company?”
This is way better news than when Henry had first reached out to Alex with his offer letter and starting salary. He grins. “You can. In fact, please say more.”
Henry looks rueful. “I really shouldn’t.”
“It’s just that—” Alex sobers a little. “He was the only person you seemed willing to talk to.”
“It was easier, for me.” Henry takes a breath. “I feel less shy around people whose opinion of me doesn’t matter as much.” He pauses, something meaningful in the way he looks sidelong at Alex now. “I do want to be better about it.”
Alex nods, considering this. He tries hard not to smile. Probably not hard enough. “I can work with that.”
.
“You do realize neither of you work in this department,” says Nora, pulling food from the fridge.
Henry sips the tea Alex has just made him. Coffee, turns out, had been a lost cause. They’re both leaning against the counter, elbows not-quite-touching but getting closer to it every day, by Alex’s estimation.
“Do any of us, at this point?” Henry muses.
Nora shrugs. “Fair.”
“Just don’t tell You Know Who,” says Alex.
“Who’s You Know Who?” Hunter asks from the doorway. He has a confused smile on his face as he looks from Henry to Alex back to Henry again. Normally the sight of Hunter fills Alex with the most profound irritation, but now he’s feeling kind of pleased.
That’s right, he thinks smugly at Hunter: Henry is mine.
Huh. Suddenly things make a lot more sense now.
“Hey, did you get my email about the museum opening this Friday?” Hunter asks Henry, and Alex bristles instantly. Did Hunter not get the look Alex just gave him?
“Ah,” says Henry awkwardly, and it would be endearing if he didn’t also look so deeply uncomfortable. His awkwardness now is so different from the bashful kind of awkward he used to be around Alex; honestly, Alex can’t believe he’d never been able to tell between the two until now. “Actually, I’m—”
“Going,” says Alex, “already. With me.”
Henry looks at him in happy surprise. “Really?”
“Really,” Alex says firmly. And then, because he likes how dumbstruck Hunter looks right now, and because Henry doesn’t pull away when Alex puts an arm around his shoulders and he really, really likes that too, he does the only thing left that makes sense to him, which is to lean in and kiss Henry. He kind of feels like he might die when Henry kisses him back.
Fuuuuuuck.
Henry’s eyes are still closed when Alex leans back. He’s dimly aware that Nora has shooed Hunter out and closed the door behind them. He’s more acutely aware of how Henry licks his lips, then opens his eyes with an oddly vulnerable expression and says, “Alex, please tell me you didn’t just kiss me for Hunter’s benefit.”
“What? No. I mean—not exactly.” Fuck. Why can’t he use only the words that he needs? “The answer’s still no, but I might’ve used it as an excuse if I’d kissed you like two weeks ago. But that’s not why I kissed you just now, and it’s not why I’m going to kiss you again.”
“Oh, you think you’re going to kiss me again, do you,” Henry says with a hint of a smile, lifting his chin in a kind of challenge that Alex does not intend to back away from.
“One-hundred-percent,” he says, then pauses. “Unless you plan on reporting me to HR.”
“Honestly,” says Henry, “I might have to report you if you don’t.”
“Well, we can’t have that,” Alex says, very seriously, and he pulls Henry back in.

Okay, how about another funny/sad one-shot? (Blame VOL. 9 for my muse swings)
One where Jaune’s semblance isn’t about healing/amping people with aura, but that he can only numb and take away their pain?
Of course it starts off all silly with Nora “pimping” Jaune out as a walking Icy-Hot Patch and raking in cash, but then things slowly get serious.
Students haggling/bribing Jaune for a quick & easy fix to deal with their depression, despite how uncomfortable it makes him. Professional hunters looking for Jaune after their missions go wrong because he can keep their friends stabilized.
And worst of all...the children’s hospitals.
Because Jaune KNOWS why the staff – why so many parents – NEED him there…
And so he does.
Because children, especially DYING children, shouldn’t have to suffer if Jaune can help it…
And when things get too hard, too REAL, for Jaune to continue?
Teams JNPR & RWBY are waiting right there willing to pick up the pieces that Jaune’s too weak to carry.
FEELS SO NUMB
"Jaune's home~!"
Jaune trudged into his room after a long day at his part-time job. Nora excitedly skipped next to him as he put his backpack down. She smiled at him. He couldn't muster the strength to smile back. He made his way into the bathroom, not even saying hello to his team.
"So... how much money do you think he made?"
"Nora." Ren chided.
"What? I'm just curious how my plan turned out."
"You mean how you were selling Jaune off as a local anesthetic to the highest bidder?" Pyrrha said, glaring from her desk.
"Hey, it's not my fault his semblance is literally a painkiller!" She put a finger to her chin. "Kinda surprised we didn't notice sooner, since he was always getting back up from Cardin's beating after he unlocked it."
"Well, I'm more surprised how you found him work outside the school." Ren said. "And with the approval of Professor Ozpin too."
"Well, I'm a bit of a businesswoman, Renny," she winked, "you knew that~!"
A knock came at the door. Ren opened it to find Ruby standing with a scowl on her face. "Is Jaune here?"
"He's in the bathroom." Ren answered. "Is there something we can help you with?"
"Yang and Weiss are fighting, and we were hoping he could-"
"It doesn't work that way, and you know it." Pyrrha said in a near snarl.
"S-Sorry, but Blake and I don't know what to do!" She rubbed her arm. "It's like ever since Jaune's been... uh, helping out, everyone at school has been acting really, really angry. It's like unless Jaune uses his semblance, people can't act normally around here anymore."
"Well, he's busy cleaning off from his super important job today!" Nora said with a beaming smile. "And they paid a mint, too!"
"Really?" Ruby asked. "Was it Uncle Qrow again?"
"Nah, he already came by yesterday. Today he was working at Vale General!"
"The hospital?" Ren asked. "What would they need him for?"
"Something about feet or another." Nora shrugged. "Like, something about pedal tricks."
The room was dead silent, save for the sounds of the shower in the bathroom. There was a soft thumping inside, too, but that subsided to silence once more after a few seconds. Suddenly, the room seemed to bend and wave and creak. Pyrrha stood from her desk.
"Pediatrics?" She asked.
"Yeah, that's it!" Nora shouted. "It was kinda weird sounding, but after they said it was for kids and cars in jeans, I kinda just went with it. Must have been mental hospital, righ-"
"JAUNE! JAUNE, OPEN THIS DOOR!" Pyrrha screamed as she smashed her fist against the door, Ruby running up to join her. The smaller of the two tried jiggle the door handle to open.
"Nora..." Ren gulped. "Do you know what carcinogenesis means?"
"...No, but that sounds like what the hospital people wanted Jaune for."
Ren took a deep breath, then told her. Pyrrha and Ruby were shoved out of the way, and the bathroom door came crashing down. Jaune was curled under the running water, softly sobbing. On the shower wall, a red smear stained the tiles. They pulled him out of the water, wrapping him in a towel, but he didn't respond to any of it. He just continued to sob and rub himself in a sort of self-hug.
"They'll be okay. They'll be okay. They'll be okay."

Been poking at this list a while, for my favorite Solid Guy. It's a reflection of our time with Varl, largely constructed of Vibes but also laid out chronologically.
Song choice/vibe notes under the cut.
[Here I Am] - Just... baby Varl running around the Embrace. Out in the wilds, learning everything he'll need to grow into the warrior he becomes. I also like it in context of the Nora people in general, coming out into the world for the first time all those years ago.
[Hip to Be Square] - a cheeky nod to the fact that Varl is the exact flavor of dedicated, mostly-serious Good Dude that I'm drawn to in fiction.
[War] - Both in the matter of winning vengeance for his fallen sister and the decimation of Nora lands late in HZD, Varl is deeply grateful for Aloy's spear and bow at his side when things were at their worst.
[Let Me Try] - After Aloy saves the remainder of the Nora and asks for their aid on the Alight, Varl is eager to answer the call.
[Fatalis suite] - The Battle of the Alight, a fight against terrible odds and an enemy almost beyond comprehension.
[Into the Unknown] - Once the battle is won, the rest of the Nora gratefully return to the Sacred Land, but... Varl feels drawn to Aloy's side, to back her up no matter how far off the map she goes.
[I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)] - Seriously. You're not going to be able to shake this golden retriever off your heels.
[Someone to Fall Back On] - Rebuffed, but not willing to give up. He knows he's not up to Aloy's level, but that doesn't mean he's useless as an ally.
[Hey Brother] - the sibling language makes me happy here - I like to think that Varl mentally takes Aloy on as a sister once he gets past the whole Anointed thing.
[Battle Scars] - Especially appropriate for Aloy being injured post-Latopolis. Varl "carries her home," but also reminds her they both carry scars and are going to need each other.
[Count on Me] - Also good for Aloy recovery context.
[Accidentally in Love] - suddenly, T-boned by the most incredible Utaru woman.
[Shivers] - giddy infatuation ✨
[All Love Everything] - Varl as wife guy. I just. it's so cute to me.
[Conquest of Spaces] - Establishing the Base.
[Children of Planet Earth] - Study group begins. I'm devastated that in canon he wouldn't have made it to having access to the Voyager golden record.
[Count on Me] - a softer reaffirmation that Varl's got you - this time for Beta.
[Never Look Away] - Things are getting tougher and more complicated, but he's still dedicated to being the anchor point.
[Saturn Return] - More vibes than a literal match to anything specific, but things continue to get rougher and more dire leading up to the big mission.
[The Final Countdown] - Throwing a bone to myself here with something a bit silly, referencing the big Gemini mission and the fast approaching... end. There's also space imagery, which is a bonus. The aliens are not friends though :(
[Saturn] - Somber mood, reflecting on the beauty of life, a decent bookend to the opening song. Incredibly bittersweet. My boy didn't deserve this, in or out of fiction.

maybe i got a bit harsh twisting your word here but sacrifice or not it was suicided (also don't forget that RBY don't know how she died), as for saving weiss and winter, cinder wasn't going to give weiss a finishing blow, she was about to hit her with the sword but worst case it will make her unconscious, and while it was the maiden power that help winter against ironwood penny didn't know where winter was and though she was helping the citizens to evacuate, it was a coincidence
also about the freedom of choosing, Where was the freedom here?
Ruby, Blake and Yang are "dead"
Wiess is in the middle of a battle
Nora and Emerald are nowhere to be seem
Winter was her only choice
she also made choices in the past such as choosing to lifting amity, choosing to fight cinder, choosing to go with ruby group and choosing to run away from the guards
you right anyone can have their opinion, i just giving mine here.
but when i see penny character arc, i see that the freedom she want is to be who she want to be
“I feel like I wish I could do both the things I need to do and the things I want to do. Is that normal?“ - V7E5.
I'm not sure I agree on the Weiss part - we'd seen Weiss' aura break and she was on the floor, without her aura it could have been lethal, if she ended up unconscious then any follow-ups could have easily killed her. Plus, no one was coming from Vacuo to help like Jaune was expecting as he originally wanted to try heal Penny and wait for help to come so Cinder would have had plenty of time and opportunity to finish off Weiss. Had Jaune continued trying to heal Penny, Winter wouldn't have been able to defeat Ironwood in time, and Cinder definitely isn't above killing someone - she thought she'd killed Ruby and Neo when she kicked them off the platform, and killed Pyrrha.
Winter was also in the middle of a battle, but was able to receive the powers and though the others weren't anywhere to be seen, the power still could have gone to them as the only pre-requisite is that they were in her final thoughts, a lot of people actually thought Nora would be the next maiden. But her last words were quite literally, "Let me choose this one thing - trust me." and I choose not to discount them cos while the options were limited, it doesn't negate the fact that she did need to choose.
And I totally respect your opinion. I think that Penny's arc has been tragic and I know a lot of people were disappointed that she was only able to have that freedom and to be a person for a few hours before dying again, and it probably does feel unfulfilled in a lot of ways. But maybe they will do something unexpected with her arc - CRWBY like a good twist. Like I said, personally I'm really interested to see how they handle her living on through Winter and how that would impact Ruby moreso than returning in her entirety, but I could be very wrong and I'm open to other interpretations. How would you like to see them handle Penny's arc going forward?

2, 3, 15 from the otp asks for all pairings
Thank you so much for the Ask, Anon!
>> OTP Questions
2. Any sleep habits either had to get used to?
N&T : Nora is the worst sleeper ever. She's jumpy, she's all over the place and thrives on chaos, despite being calm most of the time and Trystan is extremely extremely particular when it comes to his sleeping patterns. He has a routine he follows - face masks, music, the whole nine and he can't sleep without performing his nightly rituals. It gets hard for them to get used to it, because Nora's stuck with a male version of Miranda Priestley and Trystan ends up being the Tyler Durden to Nora's Narrator from Fight Club, but they figure out a system which ends up fluctuating literally every other week.
E&J : Ethan had to get used to Jane's "I'm off to bed at 9pm" and her ridiculously early waking-up times. She'd be up at three, walking around and doing something, maybe enjoying a cup of coffee and it was a habit Ethan couldn't simply shake off. Meanwhile Ethan has this weird thing where he's a massive blanket-hog, needs his face pressed against pillows to properly sleep, no lights, no windows, nothing. It started as a preference but then slowly became a routine where he'd make sure the locks were locked, the doors were all okay and do his little panicked routine where he'd go around each and every room to ensure everything was fine, come back, shut his windows off, align his pillow at a 45° angle, it's a lot for them to get used to.
3. Jealousy issues?
N&T: Nora and Trystan don't suffer from any particular jealousy issues because they're either running away from death or running to death, but if I had to pick one, I'd say Trystan gives off the golden retriever energy and gets easily envious when Nora hangs out with a specific group of people more than with him. It's harmless stuff, of course; he'd think of five hundred insults for the person in question, each more creative than the other, fusing Drakovian with English and being all sassy with the unwarranted commentary, when really, he's secretly quite dramatic and enjoys the clinginess.
E&J: I'd say they both have their fair share of "envious" moments. Jane thinks Ethan can do better. She looks at the marvellous doctors and nurses and all those suited-up people and would look at herself because she's got the confidence of an amoeba. Ethan has this thing where he doesn't admit he's a little envious, but ends up being one and sorts of internally seethes inside. He isn't vocal about it, but he has his own "What if?" thoughts which are equally self-deprecating and tarnishing. He doesn't admit it, of course. Who'd do that? Certainly not him. Lame. Pfft.
15. Why do they like each other?
I'll let them answer this one!
N&T:
N: Oh, y'know, he's -- he's there and he's an idiot and somehow apparently, I've got a thing for that and and have you seen his massive arsenal of weapons and all that stuff he knows about self defence and psyching people out? That comes in handy and -- and he's -- cooooool. *Ends up getting tongue-tied, speechless and gives up*
T: Nora is the most remarkable person I've ever met and I don't say this lightly. There's something enigmatic about her, the way she puts herself out there, so foolishly, so selfishly and she's so eager to learn. She's so eager to understand me and that's something I never had the privilege of having. Most importantly, she's there. With her gleaming black eyes, black hair and that scary baseball bat she's usually got, she is someone I can trust wholeheartedly even with our short correspondence of knowing each other. And there's this thing she does where she unslings her gun and it is straight out of an action movie and it is literally the most badass thing I've ever seen. However she doesn't use it often. I don't know what I must do to piss her off, but I will do what I must and wait, there's more. Do you know that she can…
E&J:
E: I was drawn to Jane initially because she has this power to make you question yourself, question what you're doing. The best thing about her is that she doesn't hesitate. She doesn't wait and see or she doesn't just let things happen and watch. She gets in. She knows it's impulsive but somehow, she makes it all work out. I guess the most important lesson Jane had ever taught me was the art of screwing up. And of course, there's the -- fun bits. She's kind, smart, irrevocably wonderful and her brain sort of thrives on this chaotic energy that -- that really makes you happy around her. You'd want to be around. You'd want to talk and you know you can trust her, because you're listening to her as much as she's listening to you.
J: Holy shit where do I begin? Erm, first off, points for the coolest desk. Is that nepotism, because now I can illegally use his mahogany desk whenever I want to and it has like, five sick drawers. Plus, Ethan knows things, I'd say. He has this really good intuition that even if you had a really bad day, he'd know exactly what you'd need. It's this thoughtful gesture of putting on a movie or going to a farmer's market or doing something that really takes me aback because half the time I don't tell him anything and it just sort of happens. He's incredibly supportive too and expresses his concerns in a clear manner. None of this "will they, won't they" debauchery here, because there's nothing but clear communication lines here - Houston we don't have a problem, haha. I guess that's why I still think he has his charm. He doesn't crack an awful lot of jokes but he makes it a point to show an interest and gets really obsessed with it too. One time, I introduced him to Star Trek..
You get the idea.

“Nightcall” Harrison Eo Wells x reader
Chapter 3
Summary: As you taunt the devil another criminal may be ready to strike.
Gif credits go to the owner, I found this one on google.
Author’s note: let me know what you all think, if you have any suggestions, I hope you like it!
Tumblr media
Once again, you were all brainstorming ideas about the man in yellow, nothing concrete, but the team had been stuck for a few days without making any progress.
“I just don’t believe that he doesn’t go somewhere after,” Barry commented.
You were sitting on Cisco’s desk and as you saw Wells roll into the cortex you decided to chip on your own ideas. Even tho he had specifically told you not to.
“You know I bet he has a day job too,” you said while noticing from the corner of your eye how Dr. Wells moved his head to look at you and rub two fingers over his lips, how he tended to do when he was thinking, probably how to get rid of you without attracting heat to himself.
“He seems smart, I bet he is some kind of doctor,” you spurred on. “I mean his suit seems pretty legit so he probably is very smart.” Now you were sassing him up. Oh boy were you sassing him up. You knew this risky comment had the potential to blow up on your face, but honestly it was a risk you were willing to take just by the look of Wells’ eyes.
“Very interesting idea y/n.” Wells said looking at you with that fake smile he gave people. God how you wanted to whip it off his face.
“Actually Dr. Wells I was wondering if I could talk to you about something” you asked him as you hopped off the desk.
He only nodded and signaled you to follow him. This plan could very much make you or break you. You were hoping for the first one.
“Those two seem to be talking a lot lately” Cisco commented once you were out of earshot.
Once in Wells’ office you reclined yourself against his desk and looked at him.
“So I have been thinking about your proposition.” You began to speak.
“My proposition? I don’t believe I have proposed anything to you” he said, the look on his face was unbelievable, you had some nerve to be sassing him up so much, and the worst part was that he couldn’t kill you or get rid of you just yet without making it obvious and drawing attention to himself.
“Yes, your proposition about me not speaking and you not killing me” you continued.
“I have thought about it, and I’m willing to accept with one condition.”
He couldn’t believe you. He just couldn’t believe that you were either stupid enough or brave enough to face him.
“I don’t believe I gave you a choice or that you have one, what part of dying was not clear to you?” He added.
“Trust me it was very clear to me since you literally stuck a hand in me, but killing aside, I will keep your secret on a condition, so please at least humor me, we both know you can’t kill me, for what reason is unclear to me but if you really wanted me dead I would be by now.”
You would be the fault in his plan if he didn’t do something about you fast. You were too smart and too fearless of him to be scare that easy. Or too stupid as he had previously thought.
“What is that condition?” He would humor you, play your game and let you think you had the upper hand until he could get rid of you.
“I will play along with you and keep your secret safe, going as far as making sure no one else suspects of you, only if you promise me that once this is all over, and you get whatever it is you are trying to achieve that you will leave a confession freeing Barry’s father of the murder of Nora.”
Now that wasn’t that hard, he would be gone, it wouldn’t affect him in any way, and if that’s what it took to keep you quite then he would oblige.
“Fine, I give you my word.” He said.
“And you won’t hurt Barry badly, or anyone else in the team” you added, feeling a wave of bravery.
“Don’t push your luck little one or you will find out what happens when you taunt me.” he said through gritted teeth, he was a very patient man, but you had a way of pushing his buttons like no one that he had encountered in a long time.
After your little conversation with Wells you felt more confident than ever, you had managed to at least get something out of it and the enjoyment of messing with him, it made you feel powerful.
“Well someone is in a good mood” Cisco said as you entered the cortex smiling and more relaxed than they had seen you in a long time.
“What happened back there?” Cisco insinuated as he looked at you suspiciously.
“Gross Cisco! Gross!” You screamed at him with a fake look of disgust.
“I’m just saying!” He added raising his hands in the air in an apologetic manner.
“Alright you guys,” you called everyone’s attention.
“I’m going to get some coffee, anyone wants anything?”Everyone made their orders and you left to Jitters.
It was getting dark by the time you were getting out of Jitters, walking to your car with your hands full, you struggled to get the key out of your pocket, and as you placed the coffees on the roof of your car and looked at your window to open the car you screamed in fear as a hand covered your mouth with some kind of clothe and the other one grabbed your neck beginning to drag you away.
Back at Star labs, the team had began to wonder what was taking you so long. It was normal to take some time since Jitters wasn’t exactly a street away, but you had been gone for almost two hours.
Just as Barry was about to tell Cisco to try and call you for the twentieth time, a message was being broadcasted on the tv.
“Cisco!”Caitlin urged him as she pointed to the monitor. “Put the volume up!”
“Flash!” The knowing voice of Captain Cold came through the speakers. “I have a friend of yours. If you don’t come and surrender yourself, she will die.” He added in his typical singsong way of speaking.
“Flash don’t come for me!” You could be heard screaming in the background, the focus changed to you as the image showed another man putting a gag in your mouth while you were tied to a chair.
“We need to do something fast” Barry said as he raised his hands to his hair in desperation. In that moment doctor Wells who had seen the whole ordeal from the entrance to the cortex spoke.
“We need to be careful Mister Allen, we don’t know where they are keeping her or if Captain Cold still have the cold gun.”
“Dr. Wells is right, we need to be careful, acting on impulse may not be the best call right now.” Caitlin added.
“I know but we can’t just stay and do nothing! He has y/n” he desperately added.
“I’m aware but I do caution restrain.” He added.
They planned a strategy, as Barry made it to the meeting point, Cisco and Joe would go to see the location where they suspected you were being kept.
As Barry struggled to defeat Cold and Heat Wave. Dr. Wells and Caitlin stayed behind guiding them through the operation. When Barry finally manage to neutralize Cold and Rory a bigger problem arose.
“Guys!” Came Cisco desperate voice through the comms. “She isn’t here, this was a decoy” he added.
Barry looked down on Cold, and as he grabbed him by his shirt collar he shook him.
“Where is she!?” Desperation could be heard in his voice.
“Flash, you really thought it would be that easy to find her? I hope you said your goodbyes earlier since in a matter of around two minutes your little friend will blow into the air.”
Dread came over Barry as he realized that no matter how fast he managed to search the city it wasn’t enough time to find you.
“I will give you a hint, why don’t you start in the East side?” Cold added as he smiled sarcastically at Barry.
Back the labs Wells excused himself from Caitlin and went to his time vault. He needed to find you fast. It was true that this was the perfect chance to finally get rid of you, but he just couldn’t bring himself to let you die by the hands of Cold.
You were seated in some kind of abandoned warehouse. In what part of town you had no idea, but you were painfully aware of the ticking bomb at the bottom of your chair. And as you heard the ticking get faster you were sure that was it, this is how you were going to die. If Barry hadn’t found you yet, you doubted he would on time.
As the seconds came to cero time seemed to stop all together, and in flash of red you were whisked away as the bomb went off and the explosion resonated all around you.
Your eyes watered as your mouth opened to let a sigh of relief come out. You squeezed Barry’s neck and placed your forehead on his shoulder as you breathed him in only for a second later to recognize this particular smell. This wasn’t Barry. As you opened your eyes you were met with a yellow suit and a pair of red glowing eyes. Still in his arms you hugged him again, adrenaline controlling your actions.
“I have never been happier to see you” you said, he only nodded and put you down on the floor.
As he speeded away you saw Barry coming to you fast. Relief could be read all over him the moment his eyes landed on you.
“She is safe” is all he said through the comms to the team.
“How, how did you managed to escape?” He questioned you once you were all back at Star labs as Caitlin checked you over.
“ I am not sure, I managed to free myself from the ropes but the bomb may have glitched as I had enough time to run as far as I could” you explained, trying to sound convincing.
“I mean but you don’t even have a scratch on you” Barry kept questioning you.
“I think I just had a lucky star tonight.” You said as you looked over at Harrison, who had just entered the med bay area.
“I think we should let Miss y/n rest for tonight Mister Allen.” Dr. Wells added.
“Yeah, I am just glad you are okay.”Barry added as they all walked out to let you rest for the night.
Wells was the last to leave and as he was about to roll out the door you stopped him. You had so many questions to ask him. He could have easily let you die and get rid of you without being suspicious, but he hadn’t.
“Why did you save me?” You asked when you were sure no one was close by. He only smiled at you and turned around, leaving as you sat there with now more questions about the man than ever before.

While other people have pointed this out before, I think what gets me the most about RWBY is the way having a differing opinion is portrayed? I grew up in a household where…yeah, generally you had to agree, and it’s not healthy. I don’t know why the writers seem to think that has to be a thing? It’s just pushing toxic behavior and it’s made like…even viewing RWBY to make fun of the flaws with friends unbearable. I don’t know how I didn’t notice it earlier, if anything.
This is absolutely one of the most frustrating things about the RWBY group.
Qrow doesn't agree with Ruby and Jaune about stealing a plane. That is framed as absolutely wrong and he is point blank told to either fall in line with what they want, or leave. Before this, Yang, Blake, and Weiss all are very quick to draw their weapons on him when they want to summon Jinn and think he might protest. The idea here is that they only are willing to have Qrow even in their team when he agrees with everything they say, and will even get ready to fight him the moment he really protests. Yang, Ren, and May all protest the actions of the general group or challenge them, only for that to be treated as wrong and surprising and they're treated as problematic at the least, terrible friends at the worst. Falling back in line and deciding that the team is totally right and that Ruby doesn't have to change made May and Yang totally fine. And as for Ren, he doesn't become 'fine' until he not only gives in and decides that Ruby and her team were one hundred percent right, but totally gives in with Nora too in their relationship and decides Nora is one hundred percent right. Emerald, Winter, and Whitley were all considered various levels of bad until they switched to Ruby's side, and on top of that, the writers specifically had Winter give tons of horrible dialogue in her fight with Ironwood that basically says "actually I never believed any of the stuff that I said and acted like I believed in the last volume, now I agree with Team RWBY on literally everything we disagreed about." Ozpin must beg forgiveness for having not trusted Team RWBY with everything within months of knowing them (despite the narrative of the story proving his hesitance well founded over and over and them having Ruby just as free with lies and hesitant with trust herself.)
There's more even than that I'm sure, but the point is that the mentality of everyone agreeing is uncomfortable to say the least. If I'm being generous, I might consider this writing a reflection of their inability to write fleshed out character dynamics and their struggle to write Ruby as a convincing or good protagonist. It's also reflective of their struggles with follow through and pay off. They have people challenge Ruby, but they don't have Ruby actually grow or change and they have her friends instead realize they're wrong. There's no pay off to Ruby being challenged because the end result is still "Ruby is right, Ruby is good, Ruby doesn't have to change how she acts." So instead it just looks like everyone is forced to follow the group mind frame, think and act the way they do.
The mentality of people being bad if they don't agree with or like the protagonist is prevalent in the treatment of Ozpin, Whitley, and Emerald. Ozpin's crime was keeping secrets from Team RWBY. Whitley's crime was wanting Weiss's position as heir and being snide. And yet both of them actually put in more work towards 'redemption' than Emerald, literal murderer who willingly tried to help Cinder kill Penny again mere episodes before her 'redemption.' Because the crimes didn't actually matter all that much. It just mattered that they proved they were on RWBY's side, and Emerald's actions weren't as personally against Team RWBY directly. Whitley made Weiss mad, so he had to prove himself at least as much as Emerald the murderous terrorist. Ozpin acted against Team RWBY, so he has to ask forgiveness and explicitly state that he was wrong and he has to bow to Ruby's will, let her make the standards, let the others make the choices, despite the fact that he has every right to dismiss Ruby as an inexperienced and ineffectual leader doing more harm than good. Emerald didn't even have to apologize, and she didn't even have to admit she was wrong, in order to be accepted.
Just look at the differences in the reactions when Emerald says she 'switches sides' and says 'you've been getting your asses kicked, some of that... by me,' which is as close as she's come to admitting she was wrong or apologizing, versus how they respond to Ozpin starting to admit he was wrong to not trust them.

Reactions to Ozpin

It doesn't matter that Emerald's actions were much worse, more serious, more deadly, and done with horrible intentions. It matters that Ozpin's actions made Team RWBY mad and sad, and it's treated much more seriously than Emerald's literal murder because of the mind frame carried out in the narrative of the show.
The show acts like disagreeing with Ruby and her goals is literally morally wrong, and anyone who doesn't fall in line with her all the time is in the wrong and needs to either change or apologize or get lost. You're right that it's full on unhealthy. Imagine how much better RWBY would be if people were allowed to disagree, if Blake was allowed to consider it wrong to steal a plane or if she stood up for Ozpin after they all see his memories that are eerily similar to her own past situation. If Yang didn't draw her weapon on Qrow in the snowstorm and instead got angry at Weiss and Blake for doing so, if she'd been allowed as a character to be on Ironwood's side, and then actually see through her concerns about Ruby as a leader. If Winter had been allowed to turn on Ironwood without throwing everything she'd believed in away so there could be later tension between her and Team RWBY or they could get across the message that disagreeing with some things doesn't make you evil. If Qrow had been allowed to be on Ozpin's side, or insist that Team RWBY shouldn't steal a plane unnecessarily (maybe causing the team to go behind his back or something,) or could be on Ironwood's side in V7. If Ironwood was allowed to have a 'save the many over the few' mentality instead of their 'risk the deaths of everyone on the off chance we'll be able to save everyone' mentality without being turned into a puppy kicking dictator. If Ren was allowed to be angry at Nora and to still disagree with the way the group was running even if he felt like he had no choice but to follow them and maybe took to looking to Ozpin as a mentor. If May was allowed to be committed to her demands that Team RWB actually choose something and try to help, and didn't throw it away later to comfort Ruby, instead letting her face hard truths. If Whitley and Weiss made up, but there was still tension and he still was acting resentful of his mother. If Blake and Yang were allowed to actually fight and argue and come out the other side stronger and still committed to each other. If Ozpin was allowed to come back angry at Team RWBY and not apologizing and instead being hurt by their actions and even more hesitant with them and feeling like the world is crashing down around him and expressing all that.
Idk, I just feel like the very worst thing you can do for your cast of characters is have this 'assimilate to our way of thinking or you're wrong,' mentality. Some of the characters don't feel like they have room to breathe and actually be full characters, other characters feel like they're hurting in-show and just acquiescing out of fear of abandonment or repercussions, and meanwhile it's hurting other characters in the originality and development department because the dialogue they have and their mentalities feel so copy and pasted that you can interchange a lot of lines and have it still feel the same.
In short, this is one of the most annoying writing flaws in RWBY.

i lived [leah rilke]
leah rilke x fem reader
requested: Woooow feel something was literally the best thing ever. Could I pretty please request a third part (most angsty) where reader gets herself in the worst situation possible and her condition is so bad (her heart stops beating) once Shelby finds her, she’s hyserical and doesn’t realize she has to perform CPR so Leah being the protective girlfriend but if not evenly even more worried than Shelby does CPR and tells her not to give up. Later while they’re all taking care of reader and watching her sleep off the pain they talk about how much they mean to her (especially Shelby and Leah) this would be the best thing ever 😭😭
thank you guys so much for all the love on my leah imagine and just all my imagines in general! i’m going a bit out of order with these requests but this caused inspiration to strike. i’ll be back back on track soon, coming out with a shelby one next! but yeah i’m so happy you’re loving them! and i hope you enjoy!
Pt.1 & Pt.2
Tumblr media
*not my gif*
Ironic isn’t it? Even though you’re taught at a young age to carry love in your heart, but in reality it could kill you.
“Where are you going?” Leah asks softly as you stood up from the sand.
You brushed off your pants before answering, “I’m just gonna go for a walk. See if I can find anything on the shore. Would you like to come?”
It was a hotter day than usual out on the island. Sweat beads were forming on the top of your hairline. All of the girls seemed to be out of energy from the burning sun that laid upon the nine of you.
“Mmm no. I would much rather stay here in the shade, you could stay with me too. You don’t have to scavenge every hour of the day.” she says, grabbing your hand to try and pull you back towards her.
You smile at her softly, kissing her hand, “I’ll be back. It won’t take long.” you say.
She pouts, but you just chuckle before placing a soft kiss to her lips.
Before you went off on the little voyage, you checked up on your blonde best friend, “How’s the leg?” you ask, examining the jacket bandage you made for her out of your own jacket.
“I’ve had better days.” she replies with a shrug.
“I’m sorry. But I know it’ll be healed up sooner than later, but until then you know you always have me to lean on.” you say, smiling at her, “I’m heading out to the shore to see if anything comes up, you’re free to join me whenever.”
“I will later. Thank you.” Shelby says with a smile matching your own.
“Anytime.”
And then you were off, walking slowly along the beach shore to see if anything washed up. It was nice though.
The peace and quiet. The soft wet sand in between your toes as the cool water occasionally lapped over them. It was a nice distraction from the burning sensation that occurred in your chest or when you breathed.
It started after you went to save Shelby. And you just thought it would go away on its own, but it’s been almost 24 hours now and it wasn’t going away. But rather it got worse.
Each breath you took felt like you just ran a mile. But you didn’t want to worry the girls. They’ve already been worried sick about you and all of the stunts you pull. This doesn’t need to be another thing they’re worried about.
You let out a fit of cough. The cough seemed to have lasted forever, but it finally stopped when you spat out a loogie. It wasn’t any loogie though, blood was on the yellow sand and you just stared at it in shock. Unsure of what to do.
You were about to start heading back when you noticed a bag at the end of the shoreline.
One last trek. We’ll bring the bag back and relax for a couple days.
As you start walking to the bag, you can feel your heart rate rising even higher with each step. And it felt like you were walking on walls as the whole world seemed to spin faster and faster.
All of your senses were heightened. The smell of the sea water invaded your senses. A ringing sensation filled your eardrums making it impossible to hear anything else.
“Leah...” you whisper before the bright blue sky went black.
Shelby decided to take your offer and go walk along the shore with you. Despite the pain in her leg, she thought it would be nice to walk around with her best friend.
You’ve been so focused on not dying that you haven’t had time to just sit and talk.
Shelby misses going bowling and drinking 7/11 slurpees in the parking lot with you every Friday night.
Or you coming to her beauty pageants even though you hated the idea of them. You wanted to come to just support her.
The two of you haven’t even thought about what you should do when you get back. There was Shelby and Toni and you and Leah. If news got out about that back home, you’d be burnt at the stake.
But the two of you don’t care anymore.
Shelby look down at the shore to try and get a peek of how far you went. Until she sees a body was lying still face down towards the end of the shoreline.
“Y/N?” Shelby mumbles quietly to herself.
She makes a full 360 trying to find any sign of her best friend. But came out empty.
“No.” she mumbles and took off running.
Despite how terrible her leg felt she had to get to you.
Shelby reaches your lifeless body and scooped you into her arms. She cradles you into her lap and cups your cheek gently.
“Y/N? Hey, hey...” Shelby whispers and your eyes flutter open for just a second.
“Shelb?” I whisper softly.
“Hey it’s me. What’s going on?” she ask frantically.
“There’s something wrong,” you mumble softly, “I’m scared.”
“No, no, no,” she murmured, “You’re just tired and it’s hot out. You’re just exhausted. Remember that plane? It’s gonna come and we’re-we’re gonna get out of here. Together.”
You brush her hair from out of her face, before smiling softly, “I think it’s more than exhaustion, blondie. I don’t know what’s wrong or how much time I have with whatever-”
“No,” Shelby says forcefully, “No, you can’t die. We’re supposed to go home together.”
“I know, but each second that passes by it’s becoming harder and harder to breathe.” I whisper in between raspy breath.
“We’re supposed to go back to Texas, graduate, and move the hell out of that place. We can get an apartment with Toni and Leah. And we’ll finally be happy. We don’t have to worry about our terrible parents or some higher standard. It’ll be us just like we always planned. Y/N, please. You can’t go.” I rant to her, telling her about the life we could have out of our normal lives.
“I’m right here,” you told her shakily, wanting to be brave for her, “Are-are you crying?”
You reached up to touch her face, and sure enough there were tears dripping down her cheeks.
“I-I haven’t seen you cry since-,” you say trying to finish the rest of your sentence, but as time goes by you could feel your heart slowing down, “Since Becs died.”
“Please,” Shelby begged, grabbing your hand tightly, “Please...we need to go home.”
“You’re...you’re the best friend I ever had,” you whisper, your breathing starting to come in short gasps, “My sister for a lifetime, I love you. And I need you to keep living the way you’re living right now. No expectations. Just be you. Tell Leah that I love he-”
You let out a harsh choking sound as you went limp in her body. Your heavy eyes now closed.
Shelby places her fingers on your pulse point. Come on Y/N. Please.
“Please God. Don’t take Y/N away from me. You already took Becs. Please don’t take her. She’s all I have left.” she sobs out.
You had no pulse. Nothing. There’s nothing!
“Dot! Leah! Someone help!” Shelby yells as loud as she possibly could.
The rest of the girls could hear her pleads from the campsite. All of them took one look at each other before taking off running towards her yelling.
When the rest of the girls reach the shore. Shelby still has you scooped up into her lap. Leah let out a small gasp running to your side immediately.
“What’s wrong?” Toni asks.
Shelby was struggling for the words to say, “She uh she just...her heart just stopped. I found her collapsed on the floor and she was here...she was just talking to me and then she was-”
“We need to start CPR!” Nora says getting everyone’s attention.
Leah scooped you out of her arms and placed you flat on the floor. Tears falling down her cheeks onto your chest as she started doing the compressions.
Toni took Shelby into her arms, trying her best to soothe her best friend.
“Come on Y/N! You promised me! You told me you weren’t gonna leave me!” she yells.
Her compressions going out of rhythm, “Leah, you’re not doing it right. It’s not gonna help her if you can’t do it right!” Rachel yells, “Move!”
Rachel was about to start taking over when Shelby got out from Toni’s arms, “No I can do it!”
“Are you sure?” Toni asks her girlfriend softly and Shelby just nods.
Rachel pushed Leah off of your body despite her screaming protests. Fatin pulls Leah into her arms. Leah’s head rested on Fatin’s chest as she ran her hands through Leah’s hair.
Shelby’s compressions were surprisingly calm and even despite the sobs coursing through her body.
“You do not get to save everyone and not let us save you. Do you hear me?” Shelby whispers to you softly.
Leah crawls out of Fatin’s lap and places herself lying next to you on the ground. She ran her fingers through your hair and placed her nose up against your cheek.
Shelby was at for a long time. And at that point everyone started to lose hope that you were gone.
“Please Y/N. I’m not ready to say goodbye. We have a whole future left outside of this fucking island. Stay for me.” Leah pleads.
Your eyes shoot open and your gasping for breath. Everyone releases a sigh of relief. All of the girls had tears on their cheeks, all of them thinking the worst.
“You’re okay!” Shelby lets out a sob as she immediately leans down to hold you. You wrap your arms around your blonde best friend holding her as tight as possible, “You can’t die.” she whispers.
“I’m right here Shelb. I’m not going anywhere. I promise.” you say, your voice raspy and tired.
“Dude you really need to stop dying. It’s getting a little old.” Toni says, trying to ease the tense silence.
You laugh softly before giving her a fist bump. All of the girls stared at you with relieved smiles on their faces. Dot, Fatin, and Rachel gave you high fives and fist bumps. But much to your surprise Nora leaned down herself to hug you.
You turn your head slightly to face Leah, her nose still against your cheek not wanting to open her eyes. If she opened her eyes she would wake up and it would be just this sick dream.
You rested your forehead on hers, the tip of her nose touching yours ever so slightly.
“Hey, look at me.” you whisper and her deep blue eyes finally stare right back at you.
She smiles softly, before cries shake throughout her body. Her soft hand goes to cup your cheek, pulling your face unbelievably closer to yours. You weakly reach out your hand and wipe away the tears that were falling.
“You’re still here?” she says, but it comes more out like a question.
“I promised, didn’t I?” you reply, before kissing her softly.
When you broke apart Shelby scooped you up in her arms yet again carrying you bridal style.
“Shelb, I can walk.” you say.
But she just shakes her head, her perfect smile appearing on her face, “I don’t care. I’m gonna carry you back.”
All of the girls walk back to the camp. Leah sits down right next to where Shelby laid you gently on the floor. You rested your head on her lap as you could feel sleep slowly lull you into dreamland.
The burning sun was now setting and the orange hue of the fire lit up the deep blue night sky. You were still fast asleep on Leah’s lap, soft snores coming from your mouth.
“You know she’s almost died 6 times?” Nora says, speaking up as all of you sat there in silence drinking your Diet Cokes.
“How do you know that?” Dot asks, surprised at how she can keep track of all of it.
“I journaled it. The first time was the plane crash, then the mirror, the overexertion, saving Fatin, saving Shelby, and then right now.” Nora rambles, showing us the chart she made.
“She really put herself before the group.” Rachel whispers, shaking her head, “I remember when I had my period accident on Dot, she came to talk to me. She made me a makeshift tampon out of her shorts. She literally cut off pieces of her shorts to make me a tampon.”
Everyone laughs at the fond memory. Leah was there running her hands through your hair lightly, careful not to wake you up.
“Besides totally saving me from getting stranded in the middle of the ocean. When I was super thirsty because of the Takis, she gave me her water and let me take a few sips. She never got on me about not doing anything.” Fatin says smiling at your sleeping figure.
“And one day we played this cool game where we would pass the journal back and forth only making one line to create a drawing. It was beautiful.” Nora says softly, showing everyone the abstract drawing the two of you made together.
“We went exploring one day and I never told you guys this, but my pants ripped,” Dot begins to say and everyone bursts out into laughter.
“No way!” Toni exclaims, but Dot just nods with a smile on her face.
“Yeah and after laughing for a little bit, she took off her jacket and wrapped it around my waist so no one would notice.” Dot replies smiling a little bit, “Not only that, but back home when my dad was sick, she would stop by every other week to check on him and bring food.”
“She did that?” Shelby asks.
Dot nods softly, a sad smile on her face, “He left an impression on her after our league soccer days. So when she found out, she wanted to visit him and make him feel normal.”
“Wow.” Shelby mumbles, surprised at her best friend antics.
“When Marcus disappeared, I got a little sadder than I was supposed to about a mannequin. So she took the time to make a sandman to replace him. It was just a snowman made of sand and it was washed away by the tide shortly after. But it was the thought that counts.” Martha says and everyone’s faces were lit up by smiles.
Toni wrapped her arm around Shelby’s waist pulling her in a little closer, “One time we went scavenging together. And I told her about my basketball and how I used to play and she got so excited for some reason. In the middle of the jungle we played a small game with a rock and an empty Diet Coke can we had. I won, obviously.”
“Back home, we went to the 7/11 we always go to every Friday night. And I didn’t have my teeth in because I was eating. Then a bunch of girls from our school came by and saw the dentures lying on the hood of her car. They started making fun of them asking who’s they were. And Y/N flat out said it was hers. No hesitation because she knew how insecure I was of them.” Shelby whispers shaking her head and smiling at the fond memory.
“I remember that! Everyone was calling her grandma, they still do...” Dot says.
“Yeah. She really took one for the team there, but she never expected anything back. She just did it, to do it.” she says softly, before clearing her throat, “And when our friend Becs died, Y/N made a whole concert filled with terrible dancing and singing for me because I wasn’t doing well mentally. It was the best concert I have ever been to.” she whispers.
She cleared her throat again, trying to fight back the tears, “She’s my best friend. She’s like a sister to me and without her, I don’t know what I’d do. Out of the gifts God has given me, I think Y/N is the best one ever. She’s a literal angel on Earth.”
“Well, I met Y/N at a strange time in my life. I wasn’t doing well mentally. And she may not have saved my life physically. But mentally she did. It’s like she just came out of nowhere, an angel in this fucked up island.” Leah begins, smiling down at the girl in front of her, “There was this time where I was on the verge of having a mental breakdown and she sang me a random song that she came up with in her head.”
“Was it the one that went: dinosaurs eating people, dinosaurs in love...” Fatin starts singing.
Leah nods softly, “Dinosaurs having a party. They eat fruit and cucumber. They fell in love. They say “Thank you.” A big bang came, and they died. Dinosaurs dinosaurs fell in love. But they didn’t say goodbye. But the didn’t say good...BYE!” All of the girls sing loudly at the top of their lungs.
“I think after she sang that to you, she sang it to all of us when we were down on ourselves.” Rachel says and everyone smiles at the stupid song.
“God I’m so thankful for her. I think I would’ve actually lost my mind.” Leah whispers before placing a kiss onto your forehead.
“You’re so whipped.” Toni says teasing the other brunette.
“I know.” Leah replies, accepting the truth.
There was a comfortable silence that hung over the group. As they sat back and reflected on their time here in the island.
“Honestly, I don’t think we’d be here without our very own Supergirl.” Dot says and all of the girls nod in agreement.
“To Supergirl!” Toni says, raising her Diet Coke up in the air.
“To Supergirl!” The rest of the girls yell as they all raise their cans in the air.

oooh, a ship game! tagged by @perfectromanceinmymind who i just started adoring more for reading Imzadi. ok, let’s get into this!
rules: Movie/TV ship questions; answer with a GIF; no repeats
1. First ship - Janeway and Chakotay (Star Trek: Voyager)
Tumblr media
yeah, I KNOW. since i started my rewatch i’ve been complaining about how boring chakotay is and how captain mom - i mean mommy - i mean janeway deserves someone way more interesting. hell, i’m pretty sure i’ll be shipping Q with her over chakotay. and just see waht will happen when seven of nine shows up. ...but yeah. sue me. it’s THERE. it’s obvious. it’s just also very, very boring.
2. First OTP - Lily and James (Harry Potter)
Tumblr media
so, i know, tons of issues with harry potter. but that was a fandom i was super invested in. ctually, not sure that’s the right way to put it. i was super invested into the books, waxed and waned a bit... and the funny thing is, i didn’t care about the whole harry-ron-hermione-ginny thing until i started reading fandom things and was totes fine with whatever was happening (actually kinda rooting for ginny since book 2). didn’t really care about these ships. but lily and james? from first finding out about the marauders, i was on board of that ship. also, snape was a creep and a horrible person, and a nice guy, and that was not romantic
3. Favourite current ship - Sebastian and Blaine (Glee)
Tumblr media
do i have to say it? seblaine from glee. these two have barley 15 minutes of screentime, but the chemistry is just there. i still think they were set up to be at least a midgame ship that fell through when grant gustin was busy with the flash, which given the writing on glee and the insistance on klaine as an endgame might have actually been for the better, but there’s just something about them. if blaine’s in the room, sebastian’s eyes are on him. when sebastian shows up, blaine’s mood lifts. Just so much potential, wasted again - but that’s the glee thing.
4. Shipped from the first minute - Dean and Castiel (Supernatural)
Tumblr media
sooooo, i won’t say they’re canon, but they’re half-canon and broke the internet. now, keep in mind, i stopped watching supernatural around season 8? the one in which metatron showed up, idk. it got so boring how every season another main character was the bad guy, the winchesters got more toxic, and of course, the treatment of cas. so i’ve seen from gift that got super toxic. but come on. i’m the one who gripped you tight and raised you from perdition. best entrance ever, electric chemistry, gradually growing connection... i’m ignoring most of supernatural canon, but that was magic.
5. Wish they had been endgame - Barney and Nora (How I Met Your Mother)
Tumblr media
my shipping history with himym is... spotty. i liked ted/robin, was fine with them breaking up, and reaaaally got into barney/robin. until they got together, were awful and broke up. sure, i blamed the writing, but that short stint killed my enthusiasm. enter nora. sweet, smart, confident nora who is not ashamed to admit she’s a romantic and clearly state what she wants, who calls barney on his bs and won’t let him walk all over her. and also, the first woman barney actually wanted to be in a relationship with. even with robin, lily had to bully them into it. i thought she was really good for him, and he was at his best with her. hated how she was pushed aside to bring back more barney/robin drama (who srsly brought out the worst in each other) still my headcanon that he runs into her again when he’s more mature, caring for his daughter. but alas, has to remain a headcanon. (also, it’s a pic cause i literally can’t even find a gif)
6. Wish they had been canon - Bashir/Garak (Star Trek: DS9)
Tumblr media
sorry, not sorry. the dynamic between is amazing - the brilliant but naive new doctor, excited like a freaking puppy, meeting the mysterious spy pretending to be a tailor while trying to move away from his past. there is SO much chemistry, fascination, intrigue between them, even if they aare so fundamentally different. just... damn. except at some point midway they stopped giving them scenes. were they afraid of the chemistry? idk but i’ll spread the rumor. because we were cheated.
7. Ship everyone else hates - Ted and Robin (How I Met Your Mother)
Tumblr media
i get it. the writing had issues. writing an endgame ahead of time can backfire. ted backtracking to robin again and again gets really annoying. the mother was seriously amazing and i still can’t believe they pulled her off so well after all the buildup. and the pacing of wasting a whole season on a wedding for a couple that gets divorced within like five minutes is awful. i know all that. but i honestly think they work. their first relationship was seriously sweet - nothing like the trainwreck between barney and robin - and for them to come together when the timing is right, they both grew and matured, and are in the right places in their lives... idk, they work for me.
8. Don’t even watch the show but still ship - Rory and Jess (Gilmore Girls)
Tumblr media
i literally only know gifsets of them. they look cute.
9. Wish they had a different storyline - House and Cameron (House MD)
Tumblr media
i seriously shipped them so much in season 1. their date was sweet, especially how before wilson told her to please not break house’s heart. but after the date, they just threw it out. i had some hope again when she left his team and returned as head of the ER, just cause i thought it changed the power dynamic and maybe they had a shot. that’s what i would have liked to see. that they work together occasionally, and he starts seeing her more as an equal and maybe build something from there. would probably been way healthier than the toxic crap with cuddy.
10. Actually endgame - Emma and Hook (Once Upon A Time)
Tumblr media
oh hi, jennifer morrison, haven’t seen you in a bit. so, i also stopped watching once upon a time, as the stories got too wild and i never got into regina’s big redemption, which consisted of *checks notes* deciding she’s redeemed now and screw anyone who disagrees. but i did love captain swan. did not see that coming. like, sure, hook flirts from their first interaction, but i was against them, given how antagonistic they were. but come season 3 and neverland, and their kiss? and damn. they took chemistry, and actually built something from it, and this time, it freaking worked. which is rare. so yes, so many issues with the show, but these two? ready to set sail, captain!

Rewatching 5x21 and the scene where Nora taps into the Negative SpeedForce was epic. I love how Nora's lightning changed from yellow/purple to red/purple. Nora's anger and adandonment was well done. That "How could stop loving me" was heartbreaking. Barry was so callous in the way he dumped her. One of his worst moments.
That’s 5x19, right?
I mean, I understood Nora’s anger and abandonment in that moment (like that was so OOC of Barry to just cruelly dump her there like that, wtf???); I don’t understand why the show had to showcase it at the expense of Iris putting everything on the line to save her daughter, only for her daughter not to appreciate that for one moment, but to fixate on her father abandoning her, to the point that she literally runs away from her mother and taps into the Negative Speedforce.
Admittedly, the visual of her lightning changing colors was very cool, and I liked the symbolism of the retention of the purple lightning as what Nora will need to tap into to come back (i.e., love).

nora the arc au) weiss has a crush on jaune. mainly cause he was the first person to ever call her out on her behavior and that's a big deal for her.
jaune doesn't realize it yet being too happy with nora to even consider it but nora's starting to get a little absolutely fucking livid about weiss trying to steal her man
how does nora "calmly" and "maturely" tell weiss knock it off
Jaune was on his way back from the cafeteria with his muffin. It was one hour after it had closed, but the academy left some food out for students who were either out training past dinner, or just having a craving. He picked up blueberry, his favorite, and smiled at his prize, licking his lips, only glancing up every now and then to make sure he didn't run into a wall or worse, Cardin.
He looked up in time to see Ruby Rose, his fellow team leader and hallway neighbor, and her partner, Weiss Schnee, who owned a company, or something. Jaune didn't pay attention to who did what before Beacon. After all, he was engaged and set to live in a literal castle tower for the rest of his life.
What he did pay attention to was the argument the two had become involved in.
"I don't know what I did wrong!" Ruby pleaded. "If you told me, I could fix it!"
"What you did wrong was get picked for team leader!" Weiss spat. "You became team leader despite being a lazy, ignorant child who lucked out in coming to Beacon too early. I should have been the leader, and you should have just stayed at your basic school!"
As Jaune got closer, he saw how Ruby was being affected by the spat. She had tears welling in her eyes, her face was red, her lip quivered. She was holding everything back as best as she could. Worst of all, she couldn't speak because every attempt to try was shot down by Weiss putting her finger forward to shush Ruby. She noticed Jaune, then turned and ran away. Weiss stamped her foot.
"Where are you going?!" Weiss shrieked. "I'm not done talking with you!" Weiss turned, bumping into Jaune. She looked up at him, then quickly stepped back. "What do you want?"
Jaune didn't have a mirror on hand, so he didn't notice his terrifying look. His face was red, with veins bulging from his forehead, and his eyes were wide as his teeth ground together. His hands were balled into fists, smooshing the poor muffin in his hand, making a mess of crumbs on the floor and ruining his snack forever. But that was far from his mind.
"We're talking," Jaune said, his voice restrained to a low growl, "now!"
"Do you hear that?" Ren asked, looking up from his textbook.
"Huh?" Nora responded, pulling off her headphones. She was just at the good part of her comic, too! "What'd you say?"
"No, I don't," Pyrrha answered, looking up from folding her clothes, "and that is concerning."
"What do you mean?" Nora asked. "They probably just went back to their room."
"Hm, I don't think so." Ren replied.
"Well, we can just ask Jauney when he gets back." Nora offered, as she opened her comic again.
"Where did he go?" Ren asked.
"You're his partner, you should know." Nora countered.
"You're his fiance." Ren double-countered.
Nora sighed as she shut her comic book. "He went to go get a blueberry muffin because that's what they were serving at dinner tonight, and blueberries are Jaune's favorite because he likes the tart taste of them, just like the entire blueberry bush he ate when he was ten." Nora explained in one breath. "But then again, how would I know? I'm not his partner."
"Do you know everything about Pyrrha?" Ren asked, turning away from his textbook. "Sonce you're her partner?"
"Mistralian champion, afraid of needles, dreams of one day meeting a boy who doesn't see her as a celebrity." Nora rounded off, holding up a finger with each point. She then looked up with a smug look on her face. "If you want, I could teach some things about Jaune."
Ren turned back to his textbook. "No thanks."
"Come on, it'll be fun!" Nora shut her comics and set them to the side. "Like, did you know he plays guitar? Or that he looks really good in pigtails?"
"Don't ever let me see you treating people like that again." Jaune scolded. His anger subsided slightly as he chided her for the past ten minutes. "She's your team leader, but more importantly, she's your partner. That means when she makes a mistake, you both have to work it out. If you want to be a team leader, go cry home to Atlas." He took a breath. "Now, are you going to be okay now?"
Weiss stared at him. It was weird. He was the one growling at her, angry and red-faced, but she was the one red-faced. Was she about to cry? Jaune hated it when girls cried. That's kind of why he went off on Weiss.
"Buh..." Weiss muttered.
"What?"
Weiss shook her head. "I mean, yes, I understand. I'll... I'll improve myself and... be more understanding about Ruby's feelings."
"Please do. Now, if you'll excuse me," Jaune stepped past her, looking at his hands, "I have to wash my failure from my hands."
Weiss watched him leave, not once looking back at her. The audacity of him, appearing out of nowhere to scold her for Ruby's mistakes, like it's her fault. True, she was unfair in leading the conversation and not letting Ruby say her piece as an equal. And yes, she may have stepped over the line calling her a child. And...
Weiss sighed. She was wrong. Entirely in the wrong. Ruby was, is, and will be her partner, team leader, and, begrudgingly, her closest friend at Beacon. And she had to be scolded by that brute to learn it.
That brute who kept his blue eyes on her as he scolded her, ablaze in a blue flame of passion, his voice caging his wild fury his heart begged to release, his firm, rippling muscles perfectly hugged by his unifo- WHAT WAS SHE DOING?!
Weiss slapped her blushing face with both hands. Her little heart pounded so loud in her ear. Was she seriously crushing on him? The same man who scolded her like an equal, taking the time to correct her flaws she never saw, all to better her. Weiss only had one thought on her mind now.
That thought was, 'I really hope he's single.'
Breakfast that morning was the same as usual. Pancakes for Nora, waffles for Jaune, tea for Ren, and BnEs for Pyrrha. Across from them, Team RWBY were enjoying their breakfast of cereal, grapefruit, sausage, and also tea. All in all, a normal breakfast, except for one tiny detail.
Weiss was staring at Jaune, and when he made eye contact, she would look away. Nora chewed through her pancakes, eyeing the snow-haired beauty warily. It was weird, since the two never interacted since the entrance exam.
"Mm! That was a good!" Jaune exclaimed, swallowing the last of his waffles. He reached for a blueberry, but accidentally touched hands with Weiss when she reached for one, too. "Oops! Sorry, my bad!" Jaune replied, carefully retracting his hand.
Weiss was not as carefully, reeling her arm back so quickly, she accidentally elbowed Yang in the gut, who hacked up sausage chunks she was chewing into Jaune and Nora's face. Yang wheezed. "What the heck, ice queen?!"
Nora wiped her face with her hand, grimacing. She looked to Jaune, and he offered her a napkin. She smiled and took it. "Aw!" She cooed. "Thank, you, Jauney!" She took the napkin and wiped her face and hands. As she did, though, she noticed Weiss was also offering napkins to Jaune.
Except her napkin looked different. It was fancy, almost like it was made of silk instead of paper, and had 'W.S.' sewn into the corner. "H-Here," Weiss mumbled, "use this."
"Thanks, Weiss!" Jaune gratefully took the fancy napkin. Nora looked around at the tables' reaction.
Yang was holding her gut with one hand and wiping her chin with the other, grumbling curses under her breath. Blake looked up from her book with a raised eyebrow. Ren watched Jaune while Pyrrha looked between Jaune and Weiss with concern. Ruby had wide eyes as she watched Jaune take the napkin, and gasped when Weiss let go. Weiss' face was red and looked away from Jaune.
The bell rang, signaling breakfast was over, and the two teams left the table with their trays. Weiss stood close to Jaune the entire time, striking up a conversation with him.
Nora eyed Weiss with suspicion.
The bell rang and was met with a sigh of relief from most of the class. Jaune shut his textbook and stood up to walk to combat class. Weiss waited for him at the top of the stairs. "Everything okay, Weiss?"
"Oh, just perfect!" Weiss replied in a chipper tone. "I was just hoping to walk with you again to combat class."
"Uh, sure thing." The two made their way to their class, but stopped just before walking inside. "Hey, uh, Weiss? I, uh, just want to apologize about yesterday. I was kinda harsh and-"
"Oh, stop it!" Weiss interrupted. "I was out of line, and you corrected me on it." Weiss walked into class. "Besides, I should really be thanking you for helping me become a better person. I just don't know how I can."
Jaune watched as she walked in, humming in thought. As soon as he took his seat next to Nora, Weiss stood up and sat next to him. Before Jaune could ask why, Professor Goodwitch began class.
That entire time, Nora glared at Weiss.
That night, Nora growled as she recalled the entire day. As if breakfast wasn't bad enough, but after combat class, Weiss stayed by Jaune's side like cute on a sloth! During Grimm studies, Weiss loaned Jaune a pencil, but when he offered it back, she gave it to him! In the library that afternoon, she refused to leave his side as they studied.
There were some things Nora could let slide, but a hussy stealing her man? Nuh-uh! No way on Remnant would Nora lose Jauney to some stuck-up, scrawny, little, rich girl!
The door opened and she sat up, excited in her expectation to see Jaune. The excitement soured however when it was Jaune, but Pyrrha and Ren. She layed back down in a huff. "Where is he?"
"Jaune?" Pyrrha asked. "Weiss needed to speak with him in private, so-"
Nora leapt into Pyrrha's face, startling her. "Where?"
Nora made the sprint to the roof in record time. She was about to open the door when she noticed it was cracked open. She leaned in and saw Jaune talking with Weiss, his hand on her shoulder. The girl looked defeated.
"I'm sorry to hurt your feelings like that." Jaune gently said. "I hope we can still be friends."
Weiss let out a shaky breath and nodded. "Yes. Yes, I'd like that."
"Are you going to be okay?"
"I will. Thank you." Weiss swiftly moved to the door, and swung it open. Nora didn't think she noticed her, but she did see the tears falling from her eyes.
Jaune sighed as he stood there, looking over the lights below. Nora walked onto the roof, letting the door shut behind her. "Hey."
Jaune looked back to her, then faced forward again. "Hey."
"You good?"
Jaune sighed. "Yeah, I just," he scratched his head, "I just don't get why."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, why me?" Jaune turned around and walked to his fiance. "I mean, I know why you like me, but..."
Nora grabbed his head and pulled him in for a kiss. When they broke away, Nora booped his nose and spoke. "You're kind, brave, loyal, you make really great pancakes, you always believe in the best about people, you help people in need, and you always speak your mind." Nora then hugged him close. "If I didn't fall for you, I don't know who I would have fell for, because no one else could have ever come close to you."
Jaune hugged back, smiling. "Thanks, honey. You always know just what to say. I don't deserve to be with someone as wonderful as you." He then looked up. "Uh, but I do have one question, though."
"Yeah, what's that?"
"Did you shut the door? Because the roof door doesn't open from this side."

Wish RWBY was better? Try ATLA
To start: Yes, I’m aware ATLA and even LoK probably have much larger fandoms than RWBY already. I think they also have more content and were produced with a larger budget, which means we have to give RWBY some slack. It doesn’t mean criticism isn’t valid.
Since Avatar came out on Netflix, I watched both shows, and I can’t help drawing parallels with RWBY since they’re both animated shows I’ve loved about badass kids/teens with magic powers. And Avatar is SO MUCH better. For instance, inter-party conflict. The Gaang argue ALL THE TIME, and it’s just presented as the normal state of affairs, not some dramatic, crazy detail when one sibling has a slight disagreement with the other sibling. And as much flak as the Mako relationship drama gets in Legend of Korra, at least it had substance to it. We still don’t really know what the problem is with Ren and Nora. Oh, and The Last Airbender handled an unwanted kiss forced on someone who didn’t think it was the right time for romance SO MUCH better, with an immediate, “I SAID I was confused!” and the instigator having a scene right after where they called themselves an idiot, instead of the Renora kiss being presented as romantic or something.
Now I kinda want to write a list of things I feel Avatar does better. There’s a poorly-argued word vomit below the cut:
- The dead mother thing--Salem mentions Summer once with no details, and Ruby completely breaks down? What? Like, grief is fine, but this has literally no foreshadowing since the songs don’t count as full canon, and it made no sense given Ruby’s established (ha) character and the situation. Katara would have flown into a rage, and it would have been so much better.
- Arguments with adults on your side--Pakku was set up as an asshole teacher from the start, and he when confronted with the consequences of his misogyny, he changed his ways for the better. Zuko arguing with Iroh is never intended to have Zuko be in the right. Korra argues with Tenzin all the time, and usually they’re both right, but have to come to a better understanding of each other’s perspective that helps them grow as people. In fact, this conflict drives a lot of the story for the first two books of LoK. Unfortunately, RWBY seems incapable of this sort of nuance. Qrow is just drunk until he isn’t, but then later gets Clover killed, and Ozpin is supposedly just awful.
- Arguments with adults who should be on your side but aren’t--Long Feng SHOULD be on the same side as the heroes, defending the Earth Kingdom, but he isn’t for pretty stupid reasons. But, unlike Ironwood shooting people like a maniac, Long Feng is against the heroes for stupid reasons that (mostly) make sense in-universe: he wants to remain in power. (I still don’t understand why he didn’t just quietly explain that he had the real power in the city, not the king, and shuffle the kids off to whoever was running the military defenses that allowed him to pretend there was no war. I guess he thought if he just gave them the cold shoulder long enough, they’d go away?) Whatever problems there were with Long Feng’s storyline, at least he was consistently written as a bad guy. In contrast, Ironwood is inconsistently written as a good guy who has all the trappings of a tyrant but doesn’t act like it AT ALL, except when he occasionally does something extreme like shoot Oscar. He’s written (I guess unintentionally?) as a subversion of the military tyrant, except when he suddenly acts like one again. It’s like they were shooting for a Tarrlok (sketchy government official who’s both bad for the obvious reasons AND worse than he appears beneath the surface, even though he often works for the side of good) but actually wrote Suyin (someone who could easily be a totalitarian dictator, but decided not to be because of her moral principles, and is actually nice), except occasionally she attacks her allies for disagreeing with her.
- Costume design--I loved Ruby’s, Weiss’s, Ozpin’s, Qrow’s, and a few other original costumes, and Ruby’s had some very solid costumes. However, Volume 7 was terrible. The animation looked weird on Weiss’s braid, Jaune’s hair was awful, and a bunch of them weren’t really dressed for the weather. In contrast, the Avatar characters change outfits whenever it’s appropriate. You know, like real people. (If this is a “3D animation makes outfit changes harder than 2D animation” thing, then maybe 2D animation is just a superior art form when you’re on a budget.)
- Consistent power levels--Katara starts weak and gets stronger. Aang starts as only an airbender and consistently gets better at everything else. Toph invents metalbending and gradually gets more proficient with it. In contrast, RWBY’s Volume 1-3 feats are often better than their later feats, and Aura strength blatantly depends on plot. Yang’s gotten *slightly* better at fighting, Weiss learned a new skill and promptly got her butt kicked by focusing on it too much, Ruby supposedly learned hand-to-hand combat but really just did a headbutt, and RWBY SOMEHOW beat the most premiere team in Atlas after training with them for a few weeks. Sure, Toph, Katara, Azula, Aang, and Sokka are all ridiculous prodigies, but they’re established as such from the beginning. Katara still loses soundly to Pakku before he trains her. (Despite the memes about her kicking the ass of the patriarchy, he’s obviously going easy on her and still crushes her.) Aang gets beaten by Ozai without his OP special ability. Azula gets beaten easily the one time we see her go up against an adult (Iroh, on the ship in the beginning of book 2). And Toph is more like Pyrrha than anyone on Team RWBY. Honestly, this is one of my weaker points, but I still stand by the fact that the Avatar kids’ victories felt much more earned.
- Bad Fights--Yes, I know, heresy. I actually think the best of RWBY’s fights (RWBY vs. Torchwick’s mech, Ozpin vs. Cinder, Pyrrha vs. Cinder, RWBY vs. the Nevermore, Qrow vs. Tyrian) are somewhat more exciting, visually interesting, and (sometimes) emotionally charged than even the best of Avatar’s fights (Aang vs. Ozai, Zuko vs. Azula, Kya vs. Zaheer, Korra vs. Zaheer, Tenzin and his siblings vs. Red Lotus, Suyin vs. Kuvira). But my actual point is that RWBY’s bad fights are BAD, whereas I can’t even think of what the worst Avatar fights are. Sokka vs. Zuko in episode 1 was pretty bad, but that was more of a gag than a fight. Umm...Big Glowy Korra vs. Unavaatu was kinda cheesy, but I still liked it. Meelo fartbending vs. the Equalists? Idk. Meanwhile, RWBY has the Scuffle of Haven, that time Ilia seriously hurt Sun somehow, Qrow vs. Tyrian vs. Clover (visually impressive, but made NO FUCKING SENSE), Oscar landing a massively-telegraphed blow on Neo...well, okay. Maybe there weren’t that many awful fights. I still think I came away from more RWBY fights disappointed, but I can’t really argue my case very well.
- LGBT representation, normalized to the time period--Yes, Korrasami never got past handholding in the finale, but somehow Yang and Blake haven’t either? Even though it’s 2020? Actually, this is a symptom of a larger problem:
- Romantic relationships being ignored--Why won’t RWBY explicitly confirm anything? The RWBY cast are closer in age to the LoK cast than the ATLA cast, but it feels the other way around. Kataang was both heavily present in ATLA the whole time and by no means taking over the plot. And, okay, there was Jaune/Pyrrha, but she’s dead now, so the most-developed ship is Renora. Who held hands, then didn’t talk about their relationship at all for a full volume, and then had a nonconsensual kiss handled worse than the Kataang kiss in Ember Island Players. I’m glad there haven’t been any Romantic Plot Tumors in RWBY, but something would be nice. Or just don’t bring it up at all if you’re never going to develop the relationships.
- Sibling relationships--Yang and Ruby were great as sisters in the early volumes, but lately it’s just been Yang deciding to yoke herself to Ruby’s judgement, until suddenly she’s not anymore. I feel like they barely talked in Volume 7.
- Villains--If Salem wants to kill everyone and collect the Relics, why hasn’t she? She’s invincible! Ozai at least was still human, but he left to handle things himself as soon as he got a power-up. More vaguely, I just find Avatar’s villains more interesting than RWBY’s most of the time.
I’m aware that some/most of these are unfair. It’s more intended as an incoherent rambling to get my views out of my head than as any sort of persuasive argument.

...So about the ORNJ_JNPR T-shirt thing...
daggerpawstudios asked
“Okay I am the only confused by all the hate that Oscar is getting right now because they dropped some new merch at the RT Store. I am not sure if you heard that Team JNPR got called Team ORNJ on the new shirt. I feel like this is kind of a mistake on the marketing team's part and not really CRWBY. But now a lot of people are attacking RG shippers and Oscar fans and I don't really understand because it seems more like fragile egos”
Squiggles Answers:
@daggerpawstudios
Hey there Dagger. Well to be honest with you fam, this squiggle meister has sort of been out of the RWBY loop for the past few months. Got a work project so I haven’t been as active as I normally would be in my squiggle shire here on Tumblr.
Nevertheless, I did sort of know about the shirt thing. I first heard the news from a tweet from RWBY Youtuber Calxiyn it over on Twitter. I then saw RWBY Youtuber ThatKaitoDan mention Oscar replacing Jaune as leader of Team JNPR in his own tweet post as well but I didn’t know the full context of what he meant by that until you brought this to my attention.
I didn’t know that RT had actually listed the shirt as Team ORNJ which in their case is…well…a big OOF on their part. Personally, I don’t think this is something that folks in the FNDM should be making a big hullabaloo about. I think it’s an obvious PR mistake on the marketing department who run the RT store releases since no offense to RT and whoever is in charge of promotion on their online store but…their record of “getting things right” their store especially with the FNDM hasn’t exactly been squeaky clean in the past.
Besides, another obvious giveaway to me as to why I think it’s more likely to be a minor error is the very fact that Jaune’s silhouette is still first in line.
Tumblr media
Think about it. If Oscar had really usurped Jaune as leader of the team then why isn’t his silhouette first in the line up?
Isn’t it not a golden rule of thumb that the leaders of each huntsmen team always appear first in the team line-up whenever they do the silhouette thing as we’ve seen previously with teams like RWBY and even the Ace Ops?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyone with decent vision can clearly see that that’s Jaune’s silhouette at the front of the line. Not Oscar. If Oscar was truly the new leader of the team then why is he the third silhouette?
If thing had really turned ORNJ, then the order should be Oscar, Ren, Nora and finally Jaune. But as you can clearly see, the order is Jaune, Ren, Oscar and Nora.----THE SAME ORDER THAT WAS FEATURED IN THE VOLUME 7 OPENING! Or did folks…y’know…forget that?
Tumblr media
I know V7 ended earlier in the year but have folks forgotten the season already with its opening sequence? After Team RWBY, we got the JNPR 2.0 gang and the order in which JNR and Oscar appear matches the T-shirt with Jaune being first, then Ren, then Oscar and finally Nora. So there you go.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I wouldn't worry too much about that Dagger. I agree with you in thinking that it was a simple error made by the RT store. However, that being said, the other part about people stirring discourse over this and worst yet attacking the Pinehead and Rosegarden community over this…do I even need to say how silly that sounds.
Much like with the ridiculous discourse that arose after the small Rosegarden moment in V7CH9, this is yet another classic example of certain-certain folks literally scraping the bottom of the barrel and using any excuse they could find to harp on something they don't like while unfairly accosting the people who do.
I feel really bad for my fellow Pineheads, Rosegardeners and Rosegardening Pineheads who were victims of this time of foolishness. Because that's what this all sounds like to my ears. Foolish fools acting foolish yet again.
Seriously, what does Oscar as a character or even Rosegarden as a ship have to do with something that was posted by the RT store and is clearly an error made by the people who run it?
Are certain-certain folks truly that desperate to stir up drama and conflict that they would honestly seep so low as to use a T-shirt design as fuel for an easy argument?
The Pinehead, Rosegarden and Rosegardening Pinehead communities get enough flak as it is but this is just...beyond silly!
I'm not implying that the hate brigade should train their anger on RT but how silly can you be to take something as a T-shirt design to that level of seriousness? Especially when the design more or less outs its own error. Am I missing something here? Is there another unknown part to this where the CRWBY Writers came out and confirmed that this is legit? Because otherwise, this is just…so…LIKE SERIOUSLY DUDE?!
I like RWBY a lot and in spite of my own personal gripes and nit-picks with the direction of the show at times in terms of its writing and treatment of the characters and their respective relationships and arcs---in spite of all that, I still actively enjoy the show and I’m still invested in seeing where the CRWBY Writers take it to the very end. However I’d be lying if all the constant discourse from the more “toxic” side of FNDM isn’t slowly starting to chip away at my excitement for the series. I can live with RWBY having flaws but what I don’t need are folks constantly going out of their way to use any excuse they could to express their own personal gripes with show; going as far as to abuse others in the process. That kind of stuff isn’t cool and it’s not good to witness through the eyes of someone who wants to enjoy the show or is at least trying to...y’know what I mean?
When I first heard the news of the JNPR shirts, I was excited. Not only is this the first merch we’ve gotten of JNPR in some time but it’s also the second merch to feature Oscar.
In case folks don’t realize, Oscar doesn’t have a lot of his own merchandise sold by RT which sucks for us Pineheads.
At least the OG JNPR/JNR have a couple of merchandise (albeit not as popular or abundant as Team RWBY’s but still there).
But Oscar…not so much and the same can be said for Ozpin too.  It took RT six whole seasons to release ONE T-SHIRT DESIGN with Oscar and Oz on the front and even that was sort of short-lived since I don’t see that shirt advertising in the store anymore. It’s always the same ole Team RWBY stuff.
So with that in mind, this shirt was a first and a given. It’s so great to see Oscar together with JNR on a shirt because in a way, it makes it more official that he is a member of their group especially for those of us who were rooting for this to happen since V5.
Tumblr media
I still don’t think it means that he is the leader because as I’ll say again, look at the order on the shirt design. Oscar is third. Right where Pyrhha used to be. How can he be leader and be third in the line-up? Oscar is meant to replace Pyrhha, not Jaune.
In the case of this whole ORNJ JNPR T-shirt scandal, I don’t understand how on Earth a clear marketing typo could reach as far as to spark discourse for a fictional character of a series, his fans and the fans of one of his ships? AGAIN!
What does Team JNPR (or whatever they will be called) being miswritten as Team ORNJ has to do with us Pineheads, Rosegardeners and Rosegardening Pineheads? How are we as a fan community responsible for an error made by RT?
Even if there are Pineheads who think this should be official--NOT speaking for myself here but I have seen other Pineheads express their desire to see Oscar lead JNPR for their own reasons---still, this is no excuse to harp on someone for liking it just because you don’t.
You’re right Dagger; this doesn’t make sense to me either.
All I can say is that it is what is it. Another example of certain-certain folks using any excuse to harp on something they don’t like while trying to drag others down with them and/or ruin their good vibes.
Seriously these types of folks are honestly scraping at the bottom of the barrel. I’m surprised they’re still able to see after sinking so low with their foolishness. If that sounds a bit too harsh then sorry; not sorry.
Ever since the whole discourse over the minor Rosegarden moment for V7CH9, I have lost all patience with these types of fans. I honestly find them to be as dumb as their behaviour and it exhausts me just hearing about them and their nonsense.
Losing their marbles and attacking my people over a bloody T-shirt error that ain’t got nothing to do with us.
SO...DAMN...SILLY!
I hope RT clears this up at some point. And even if they don’t, I really don’t see why people should believe this means anything. I certainly don’t.
Not like I want that to happen either. In my opinion, I was never in favour of ORNJ---at least, not right now when Oscar is still a teenager growing into his duties and responsibilities as a huntsman. To me, I only like the idea of Team ORNJ from the perspective of Jaune retiring/stepping down from his role as leader of a huntsman team; instead choosing to pass the torch onto Oscar after the former farm boy had matured into a fine huntsman under his team’s guidance and after proving himself in the eyes of his teammates, especially Jaune.
Y’know that kind of idea.
This is why I always referred to JNR and Oscar as JNPR 2.0. I want JNR to become Oscar’s team and surrogate brothers and sister in arms. I want Oscar and Jaune to have a close big brother-little brother type of dynamic where Oscar admires Jaune’s strength and leadership and looks up to him alot as both a close confidant (much like Ruby) and teammate while Jaune himself admires Oscar’s tenacity after everything he’s been through while making it his role to look out for him along with Nora and Ren.
This doesn’t mean I want Oscar to replace Jaune as team leader nor do I think he should.
I’ve heard some folks rationalize that Oscar should lead JNR since he is Ozpin’s successor. Nothing against the folks who like this concept but if I were to add my $2.50 to this, I don’t think Oscar being Oz’s successor should automatically qualify him to take over JNR; y’know what I mean?
Jaune earned his place as leader of JNPR after proving his talent for leadership back in V1.
The only time that Jaune took a step back was when Ruby led the group as RNJR between V4 and V5 since at the time, the trio were aiding Ruby with her objective to get to Mistral, as Ren said. But even then, Jaune was still a leader and  backed up Ruby’s calls with his own strategies.
Not to mention that folks seem to be forgetting that Ozpin was the one who chose Jaune to lead JNPR.
Though we never got a scene of Jaune confronting Oz on his decision to make him team leader like we did with Ruby Rose in “The Badge and the Burden” episode (I think that was the title. Correct me if I’m wrong), much like Ruby, Oz picked Jaune and was of sound mind when he did. Oz picked Jaune to lead since despite his past hiccups and shortcomings, he saw that Jaune also had the makings of a great leader as shown during JNPR’s first fight against the Deathstalker.
So the whole notion of Oscar getting to be leader of JNR  JUST BECAUSE he’s Oz’s successor EVEN THOUGH it was Oz’s decision to choose Jaune to be leader of JNPR in the first place---yeah that doesn’t sit right with me.
Jaune is meant to be a leader and JNPR is his team to lead; even with Oscar joining it. Sorry ORNJ-fans. But that’s where I stand on that.
Anyways, that’s all I have to say on this subject. I hope I answered you Dagger.

“Nightcall” Harrison Eo Wells x reader
chapter-2
Summary: After getting a visit from the man in yellow you turn to Dr.Wells for help.
Gif credits to the owner, I found this one on google.
Tumblr media
It was late in the afternoon when you made your way over to your apartment, it had been a pretty uneventful day. Only one meta attack and no sign of the man in yellow. It had been almost a full week without him making an appearance.
After getting home and taking very well deserve bath, you changed into an oversized comfortable shirt and decided to order some takeout food and get yourself a glass of wine while you waited for the food to arrive.
That’s when it happened. Suddenly as you sat down on your couch you noticed how the wine in your glass started to float up into the air, and a second later you were whisked away before you could so much as to draw a breath by a fury of red lightning.
The moment your feet touched the floor and the cold air hit your bare legs, you realized you were standing on the roof of a building, in the exact edge of the roof. One step back and you would fall most certainly to your death.
In front of you stood the yellow speedster in all his glory, his face distorted and his eyes bright red. You looked back over your shoulder to see how high up you were and the vertigo that came over you made you focus on him again.
He was only a few steps in front of you, but you knew better than to try and move , he could throw you in the blink of an eye over the edge.
“You work with team Flash,” his distorted voice reached you.
“And I see you have been doing some digging into the wrong path” he added, how did he know that you had been helping Joe and Cisco with their investigation of Nora’s murder was beyond you. But if he felt the need to threaten you, that meant you were on the right path, right?
As you opened your mouth to say something, suddenly he was in front of you, so close you couldn’t focus on all of his face, or what you could see of it. He moved closer to you knowing you weren’t going to be able to move any further away without falling. He moved one more step forward, pushing you back and as a scream started to come out of your mouth, you felt his hand in your back, holding you in place, suspended almost mid air. He was letting you live, you would only fall if he allowed you to, if he removed his hand. In desperate fear you clung to his forearm for dear life, looking back over your shoulder one more time to the streets down below. He moved his face impossibly close to you, so much that you could almost feel his breath on your lips.
“Stop meddling into the past” he warned.
“And you better keep this little secret between us if you don’t want more visits like this one” he added.
In the blink of an eye you were back in your apartment, as if nothing had happened, even in the same spot you were before, and for a second you wondered if it had happened at all, but the sweat running down your back and damping your forehead were enough proof that indeed he had taken you.
The doorbell rang and you jumped in fear, hands trembling as you covered your mouth to conceal a gasp, running one hand through your hair and taking deep breath you tried to calm your nerves and open the door to receive your food, which went by uneaten as you had lost all your appetite.
That night you barely slept, and the few moments you managed to conceal sleep were quickly interrupted by your body still in a constant state of adrenaline.
As the next morning came by and you got to the lab you were extremely doubtful as if you should tell the team what had happened the previous night. It’s not that you didn’t take his thread to heart, but after thinking about it, there were some things that you just couldn’t let go and were maybe the key to beating him.
Maybe you could just confide this information to the one person you trusted more than anyone. With this thought in mind you decided that you would tell what happened to Dr.Wells only, maybe he would be able to help you figure your theory out.
As you entered the cortex and said your good mornings to everyone, you moved closer to Wells and asked him if he could give you a moment of his time.
“Dr. Wells, could I please speak a moment with you?” You tentatively asked.
“Of course” he nodded and wheeled himself over to his office, you following close behind.
As you entered his office and closed the door you moved in front of a white empty board.
“I need to confide you something,” you started. “I would like to keep this private between us as it is a sensitive matter and I wouldn’t want to put the rest of the team in danger” he nodded in understanding.
Taking a deep breath you proceeded.
“Last night,” you stopped trying to find the best way to voice what you were about to tell him.
“Last night the man in yellow visited me”, you spared the details, not thinking them necessary. “He threatened me, demanding that I stop looking into ways to stop him and to stop digging into the past, as you may know Joe was investigating the case of Barry’s mother.” Dr.Wells nodded, rubbing two fingers over his mouth.
“He warned me against telling anyone about our encounter but I needed to tell someone what I had uncover from his visit.” You told him.
“May I?” You signaled to the board, he nodded. You took a sharpie and started writing on the board as you spoke. Missing the look Wells was giving you, realizing that with you his threatening had been in vain but being thankful that you had come to him first.
“ I noticed that he blurs his face to the point where nothing is recognizable which I understand” you said as you started to write something on the board.
“But I noticed that he distorts his voice also, which I find unnecessary I doubt we would be able to find him like that, but that got me thinking,” you continued. Wells hands fisted against the armchairs.
“What if he is doing it because we could find him by his voice! What if he is going to such a great lengths because we would be able to know who he is without the whole distortion thing. Which would mean he is someone we know or someone we have encountered before. Someone who has had contact with one of us. Which is how he is always one step ahead. Knowing what we are up to!” You concluded.
You were facing away from Dr.Wells which is exactly how you failed to notice when he silently stood up from his chair, having realized how much he had underestimated you and your ideas and theories. You may as well be what ruined his plan, his work. He couldn’t afford to let you get any closer. He couldn’t afford to kill you without looking suspicious and knowing Joe had had his suspicions about him he couldn’t let anything happen that could lead back to him. He did the next best thing.
As you turned around dread washed all over you. There he was, Dr.Wells standing in front of you and in less than a blink of an eye, a vibrating hand shot straight down to your heart. Your eyes widened and you took in a desperate breath as your eyes started to fill with tears. It took you a second to realize you were still alive, he hadn’t stop phasing his hand yet.
“Clever girl” he whispered close to your face, his glasses now gone as you could see a shadow of red lighting wash over his eyes.
Your mouth opened and closed, before opening again as you murmured. “It’s you, isn’t it? That’s how he, you knew where to find me.” You took in a deep breath, trying to control the tears about to fall of your eyes at the betrayal you felt.
“Why?” You asked him, voice trembling.
“Why, why you ask.” He repeated, “is a story too long to tell” he said, voice low as his eyes bore into yours with such an intensity that made you shudder in fear, his hand still vibrating inside your chest.
You had forgotten how tall he was next to you, making him seem so intimidating.
“Then why pretend to be my friend? To care for us?” You continued.
“That was not part of my plan, but you were so persistent in being friendly, in getting to know the team, and sticking around after everyone left, you became impossible to avoid.” He said, smirking.
“I would suggest, if you want your pretty little heart to keep beating, to drop all this theories you have made. Don’t tell anyone about what had happened. I will know if you as to so much try to give anyone a hint. Don’t think I won’t be watching you.” He said as he removed his hand off your chest and with a flick of his wrist it stopped vibrating.
“I believe that is all we had to discuss.” He added as he moved to his chair and rolled himself out of his office, leaving you standing there, alone and still in shock at finding out the man you had harbored more than friendly feelings for was the same man you were trying to catch, and worst of all he had threatened you and literally shoved a hand in your heart, just to show you how easily he could get rid of you if he wanted to.

RWBY Volume 8, Episode 6 - Midnight (Cinder’s Backstory)
So we got the disturbed science-fantasy version of Cinderella we’ve been predicting for years associated with Cinder Fall.  Except it’s with a lot of dumb mixed in.  (spoilers below)
People wanted a Cinder backstory because she seemed too one-dimensional and blatantly evil.  So the explanation is... THREE other women who are one-dimensionally evil.  Obviously those three are suppose to be the 'evil' stepmom and stepsisters for Cinder-ella.  But even the animated Disney versions of the characters were written with more subtlety; no exaggeration.  Lady Germane exuded an oppressive and controlling aura, even when she was just sitting up in bed in a nightgown.  She didn't even directly insult Cinderella that much, you can can get a feel for her intensity.  Whereas this episode has Casey exclaiming "NO ONE'S EVER LOVED YOU," on the track.  In case the audience somehow didn't pick that up.  (I really hope those lame lyrics aren’t part of the same track that plays during the Rhodes fight, because that sounds AWESOME). The worst point in all this is the literal shock collar that's put on Cinder.  Firstly, it throws out all subtlety about signs of an abusive relationship; it feels almost like a parody.  Which is really strange, since this show is REALLY good at examining the ins and outs of abusive relationships.  That even shines through in different parts of this episode.
But going as heavy-handed as a shock collar also flatly invalidates Rhodes entire plan and reasoning.  He can't simply whisk Cinder away from her legal guardian, I very much understand that.  It's a very intriguing plot point, the idea of Cinder cracking under the abuse while waiting out the clock, and Rhodes being the only thing keeping her head above the water.  But once it reaches the point of a freaking shock collar, how does a Huntsman NOT have the ability to step in and say "that's obviously illegal, you're under arrest?"  Is that actually legal in Mistral?  A few problems with that: one, please ESTABLISH it's legal (bizarre as that is).  Secondly, why is this ultra classy hotel using something as freakish as taser-slaves in full view of polite society?  Sure, we can assume that it wasn’t actually activated in view of customers. But why run the risk of Cinder talking to ANYONE, or any of these Huntsmen identifying the thing?
Yes, child labor under threat of force is an unfortunately real problem; please don’t think I would ever try to to diminish that. But in this century, that happens in places where the upper class doesn't hang out or pay attention to; farmhands, mines, sweat shops, child marriage, brothels, even in armies and militias.  Cinder’s ‘adopted’ home absolutely screams luxury. I suppose this part of Mistral could be meant to represent newly industrialized former-Second World countries, since labor regulations in most of Asia really are pretty terrible (or are fine on the books, just don’t get enforced).  But that doesn't shine through in RWBY; everyone in Mistral speaks English with American accents (and they’re not all even Asian), so we can't help but assume well-off metropolitan Mistralians look at things through a Western viewpoint.  Or perhaps with a modern Japanese/South Korean view.  This aspect would make more sense if Cinder was working at an establishment that served mafia and gang members (which we know Mistral has plenty of) under the veil of legitimacy.
Did Rhodes not KNOW about the collar?  It feels strange he wouldn't pick up on that after years of one-on-one training with her.  Did Cinder just make a point of making sure he never found out about it, because she was ashamed?  That would actually be a fascinating detail! But I can't be making up these plot points and character interactions by myself.  The show needs to be TELLING us this.  For example, maybe given us a quick scene where Rhodes asks about what the necklace is, and Cinder dismisses him saying "Oh, it's just a trinket to look pretty." Even when Rhodes first meets Cinder, his advice makes no sense.  That she can't run away, or she'll spend her whole life looking over her shoulder.  But... MOST of the cast of RWBY is either an orphan who manages to find transportation just fine (Ren, Nora, Ilia, Emerald, Mercury) or are people who DO have a home and family, but ran away just fine (Blake, Jaune, Sun, Oscar, eventually Weiss).  Remnant is generally a pretty easy place to disappear, probably thanks to 90% of the planet being controlled by demons.  In Mistral especially, apparently the authorities are SO thinly spread that entire tribes of bandits roam around sacking villages.  Heck, Vacuo is apparently nothing BUT a nation of bandit tribes.  So with Rhodes's money and a friendly contact, it would actually be a TOTAL breeze.  What could a Hotel manager do if Cinder flew out to Vale or something?
Rhodes's character flaw clearly seems to be his adherence to the law, and I actually respect attempting that kind of character.  But this is just him being totally unaware of the world around him, and willfully uncreative for the sake of making the plot move one way.  This is where a "Lawful Good" character begins a descent into "Lawful Stupid." Please note I say it BEGINS; just wading into the pool, so to speak. My anger at his badly-planned morality is tempered by so much being unclear about the situation, and most of his character being flat-out unknown. If his advice had something to do with his own experiences, that would be cool... although that requires an actual backstory for the dude.
Found something REALLY fascinating with his name though: plenty of people have figured he’s based on the Colossus of Rhodes, with his metal skin and easily identified name. But his name may be calling back to Rhodopis, apparently the oldest version of Cinderella. But what might be blowing my mind the most: Rhodopis is another word for ‘Rose.’ Holy crap. I suspected that the parallels between Cinder and Ruby were planned from the first season, but this...? Could something as specific the Greek/Egyptian origin for a classic fairy tale possibly be something that’s pure coincidence?
