As I read Prisoner's Throne, I become more and more impressed with a knowledge about Cardan that I didn't have when reading the three books, even though it was right in front of me the whole time: Cardan is loyal only to Jude. I think my lack of perception occurred because the books were from Jude's point of view, and although our girl is very perceptive in many aspects, her own way of seeing the world wouldn't include concluding a fact like this in its entirety, since Jude, accustomed to betrayal and even disappointment after a while, wouldn't perceive this, nor in relation to Cardan, who used to be the cruel prince.
From Oak's point of view, it becomes clear that Cardan is not only loyal only to Jude but also she is the only one he sees as family until Leander is born, and even that is somewhat dubious, since, given his history, if he had no other choice, Cardan would likely sacrifice him if it meant keeping Jude safe.

Just realized how many absolutely banger characters had daddy issues.
Roma Montagov, Cardan Greenbriar, Orion Hong, Oliver Hong, Rosalind Lang, Celia Lang and Wylan Van Eck alike.
Don't know if we can count August Shenzhi since Kasa wasn't really his dad and they didn't technically have issues, just that August thought Kasa had to clock out.
(Had to edit this one because for some reason I forgot literally every character in FLF- listen, hear me out, it was like 1 AM.)

Reblog with your favorite "cinematic" novel: the one where you can see every scene play out in your head with perfect clarity and rhythm, and you know if they ever filmed it, it could never measure up to the version you've imagined.

Holly Black's fairy universe is so rich, expansive, and solid that one can have some certainty about the nature of her fey without it being affirmed all the time.
For example, one thing that seems clear is that fairies feel, and they feel intensely. If they hate, they can hate for centuries. If they love, they will love eternally and be willing to give their life for their beloved. In "The Darkest Part of the Forest," this is told as a horror story. In "Modern Faerie Tales," Kaye's entire adventure is based on her desire to become Roiben's consort.
In "The Cruel Prince" trilogy, Balekin hints at this difference when he talks strangely about how humans love — this is all without mentioning Tiernan and Hyacinthe, who became enemies and still love each other enough to fight for each other, or Lady Nore with her late husband's hands around her neck.
We see this firsthand with Cardan not once, but twice! The first time occurs when he throws himself in front of Jude to save her from being hit by one of Grimsen's traps, and the second time is when, similarly, Cardan throws himself in front of Jude to save her from having a blade buried in her body.
The first time, he shows surprise with himself. It was the moment he realized he loved her on that level — in fact, he just loves her as is natural to his species. The second time, any surprise seems to have vanished, as if he had already accepted that he would do it for her a thousand more times if necessary.
That is, the fairies indeed love as described in the poems, and that is simply fantastic on the part of the author because, let's face it, it makes perfect sense considering the aesthetic of the fairies and everything else. Yes, all of this is about how much I love Holly Black and her skill in creating such wonderfully subtle wonder-filled settings ✨✨

What horny are you?
Do you think about her so often, it's disgusting? Or hate every inch of him but still wanna blow him? Or See her in a dress that clung to her body like a second skin and wonder 'why did the universe hate you'? Or hate him because you hate what the sight of him does to you? Or was there a wildness in you, of hope and terror, when he said his mother cannot see you?

Every now and then I login to this account and just look at it. I don’t really read as much now as I used to, reading became something I considered kind of traumatic for a while because of the memories I had associated with it from the same time running this blog.
I had someone in my life who wasn’t all that great who pressured me into reading more than I could handle and would tell me they wouldn’t respond to me + our roleplays if I didn’t meet a certain page/chapter goal nightly.
I would pressure my own self to read a lot more than I was able to, if I read too much for too long I will begin to forget what’s happening because I’m more focused on trying to finish a book than enjoy it—and I even developed compulsions around counting page and chapter numbers and I would section out eacb and every chapter upon starting a book to try and figure out how long it would take me to read.
I posted a lot of my hot takes/book options on here and once got called names over it and had someone I considered close to me DEFEND the people online calling me things like a bitch. I was only called that because I said I liked Taryn better than I liked Jude 💀 should I have posted so much hate on any series? No, I was 16, but that wasn’t an ok reaction to some random 16 year old posting book hate.
I also fell out of writing in this time. I felt discouraged by people around me and my abilities to write felt like they were slipping away from me. This saddened me, as I’ve always wanted to be an author.
I’m nearly 21 and all of this is slowly being healed over time. I’ve begun feeling inspired to write again. I’ve begun to feel the want to read some of the books I bought in high school. I want to participate in online communities for books when I do so, and I can only hope I can have positivity around me when that happens.
Book Tumblr used to be my home. It housed me when I was starting to fall into this spiral above, and I want nothing more than to be able to return in an older and wiser age.
If anyone made it all the way through this, thanks for the read! :)
