I want to read bridgerton books before s3 and I saw you talked about the books as well are they any good?
God NO💀
Okay let me explain. Before I say anything I only read the first 3 books and the 6th one, which are Daphne, Anthony, Benedict and Francesca's story.
Here's my rating:
The Duke and I: ⭐ (Daphne)
The Viscount Who Loved Me: ⭐⭐⭐.5 (Anthony)
An Offer From a Gentleman: ⭐⭐⭐ (Benedict)
6. When He Was Wicked: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 (Francesca)
Daphne's book was horrible. idk if you've watched the TV show but *spoiler* that scene with Daphne forcing herself on Simon? It's ten times worse in the book.
Anthony's book was okay-ish I love their romance ig but both character were so bland!! Kate is so boring and insecure. It made me roll my eyes way too many time whenever she open her mouth lol. Anthony also pissed me off!!! I didn't like him in the book AT ALL. Their first time is a light dub-con *spoiler* Let's just say he made their first night his right while Kate was terrified and just wanted to postpone it so she can gather up her courage. It made me quite angry. (bare that in mind s2 is soooooo much different than the book. Plot-wise I enjoyed the book better and for characters, I loved the show. Only if I could mashup these two...)
Benedict's book is a Cinderella retelling. The premises were there but the book didn't quite met them. Again Benedict is so boring... he's nothing like show!Benedict and I loved Sophie<3 Their story is quite unique and if the show approach it right, it can be the best season tbh...
Francesca's was my favorite. Angsty, more than the first three. It's the only book that their first time isn't questionable (kinda) and tbh I really enjoyed it! I loved both characters. I'm not saying it's the best historical romance book ever but it was way more enjoyable than the other 3 I've read.
I gotta say these books are problematic and white asf lmao. Simon is literally blond with blue eyes!! It was quite a shock when I read the book the first time...

If Bridgerton shows A&K in doggy it would def be at a moment when they’re being non-communicative, disconnected, avoiding feelings, or otherwise tense. Which…eye roll. I agree with you though, I’d be pleased if they, without fanfare, just spliced it in during a sex montage. Where they’re just having fun and being happy — it’s very standard! I know they’d never have an extended scene in that position, but damn just briefly show Kate face down to let us know Anthony actually earned his rep as a rake (like that’s the bare minimum lmao).
How was Simon also this storied rake in S1 but apparently only did missionary? And he looked so blown away when Daphne got on top? I wonder tbh, did their uninspired sex have more to do with Daphne being so young and delicate looking and the show being wary to show a WW doing anything more ~adventurous~ with a black man?
Doing it doggy style IS the bare minimum of being a rake, lol. I hate so many rake books where the hero is supposed to be THE MOST RAKISH OF RAKES and is just like oh let me make tender love to you on a bed of roses my darling. Like. Do that. Sure. And I get that obviously most of these heroines are virgins and need to be... introduced to things. But lol, on a slightly different but consistent subject, I hated that trend of the heroine being like "oh what is this, is this your dick, should I kiss it tenderly" and the rake being like "OH GOD DON'T DO THAT NOW I'M GONNA COME RIGHT NOW IF YOU DO". Like. I get being overwhelmed by her. I love that. But let her work on it a little, dude.
I kinda disliked that they amped up Simon's rake-ness in the show--because Anthony is the real rake, for one thing, but also because it's kinda repetitive? I feel like you can have a hero be sexually experienced and good at sex without being a rake. A rake is the type of guy who will take a girl out back, finger her to orgasm, and then shake her dad's hand with a smile. (A great example of, imo, the classic romance novel rake is Ralston from Nine Rules To Break When Romancing A Rake.). Simon... isn't that. He's good in bed, he's experienced, but he's not that. Daphne may have provoked him to a Garden Moment, sure, but I think that was less rakishness and more specific attraction to Daphne.
There are so many subsets of romance heroes, and I think Simon was more of the Chilly Duke Who Must Learn To Love than the Rake. But anyway, I think the writers (and the character by extension) definitely toned the shenanigans down for the sake of emphasizing Daphne's virginity. Like, the degree of virgin that Daphne was in such a sexual setting is common in romance novels, but it was kind of new-ish for TV, and it was built up as this big part of s1's identity. Even though I really don't think you have to be having sex for long to start trying out more than missionary lol, I think they want to just hammer into everyone's heads how inexperienced she was. I don't even think Daphne knew the basic shape of a dick until she saw one on her wedding night. And yeah, I do think there could have been fetishism involved to an extent, with some ~tender white woman~ shit. Which is why they need to of course be very careful with how Kate's sexuality is portrayed this season. But I think you can portray Kate as more confident and more... interesting, in that sense, than Daphne--without it being fetishistic. It's a tightrope to walk, for sure, but I think it can be done.

Character Descriptions and Relationships
Weekend Of Change Series Masterlist
Weekend Of Change: Chapter 1
All the relationships will be based off of how they relate to Bryce or you. These descriptions are based off real people and real relationships, I know some of them don’t fully add up when it comes too looks but genes are weird lol
I’m also not saying a specific age (other then older/ younger and maybe how much of a age difference there is) you can decide yourself what age you wanna view them as
Bryce
Looks: He is around 5’10, brown hair curly hair, and brown eyes
Personality: He’s funny, when he’s comfortable with people, he’s very playful. He loves his family, but also very too himself. He hangs with his family and cousins mostly, that being said, their friends are his friends. No matter what his family opinion on something is, he will have his own opinion. Even if he doesn’t fully act on it, he knows what’s right
Preston
Bryce’s Older Brother
Looks: He is 6’0, black straight hair (sometimes curly), and black eyes
Personality: He is very quiet. When he is around his family he’s a little more open. He listens to his family and off of that does what he wants. He has a few friends that he will hang with and bring around to chill with his cousins. He can be very stubborn at time
Anthony
Bryce’s Cousin/ Luke’s Older Brother
Looks: He is around 5’11, straight dark blonde hair dark, and dark blue-ish eyes (kinda gray)
Personality: The life of the party. He make friends, he’s funny, charming, and always fun to have around. No matter what his family does, he will do his best to do what he knows is right
Luke
Bryce’s Cousin/ Anthony’s Younger Brother
Looks: He is 4’11, straight medium blonde hair, gray/light green eye
Personality: Very rowdy, like his brother and Bryce, he knows what right and will be to himself. He can easily take the spotlight and make people laugh
Carman
Bryce’s Aunt/ Anthony and Luke’s Mom
Looks: She is 5’6, dirty blonde hair, and brown eyes
Personality: Very funny, if she likes you, you’ll know it. She will always mess with people. If she wants something, she will get it. She’s the gossip type
Annie
Your Friend
Looks: She is around 5’6, dark brown (almost black) hair, and brown hazel eyes
Personality: Does her best to be friends with everyone. Can be a know-it-all at times. She’s always there to have fun and you’ll definitely have stories to tell after hanging with her
Alex
Your Friend
Looks: She is around 5’7, dirty blonde hair, and green eyes
Personality: Very fun with people she comfortable with. When around people she doesn’t fully know she’ll be very to herself
Weekend Of Change: Chapter 1
Series Masterlist
Once more chapters come out I will add the rest of the characters

april reading
oh yeah this is a thing. anyway in april i read about uhhh.... first contact (twice), murderers on skis & victorian church politics
the yield, tara june winch a novel about indigenous australian identity and history (now and throughout the 20th century) in three narrative strands. imo the narrative strand that consists of a grandfather writing a dictionary of his language (wiradjuri) in order to prove a claim to some land is by far the strongest, but overall i liked this quite a lot. 3/5
land of big numbers, te-ping chen a solid short story collection focused on modern china and young(ish) chinese people, both in china and the diaspora. i particularly liked the stories that had some slighty surreal or speculative elements, such as one about fruit that strongly evoke emotions when eaten and a group of people stuck in a train station for months as the train is delayed, which imo use their speculative aspects in effective (if not super subtle) ways to talk about society. 3/5
the pear field, nana ekvtimishvili (tr. from georgian by elizabeth heighway) international booker prize longlist! a short, fairly depressing read about a 18-year-old girl at a post-soviet school for developmentally disabled childred (but also orphans, abandoned children & other random kids) who is trying to get a younger boy adopted by an american couple. there seem to be a lot of novels set at post-soviet orphanages etc & imo this is a well-executed example of the microgenre, with the pear field full of pears that are never picked bc they don’t taste right as a strong central image. 3/5
the warden, anthony trollope (chronicles of barsetshire #1) ah yes, a 6-part victorian series about church politics in an english town, exactly the kind of thing i’m interested in. not sure why i committed to at least the first two entries of the series but here we are. despite this lack of interest (and disagreement with most of the politics on display here) i found this quite charming; trollope has a gift for an amusing turn of phrase & making fun of his characters in benevolent ways. 3/5
the lesson, cadwell turnbull first contact scifi novel set on the virgin islands, where an alien ship arrives one day. the aliens seem benevolent & share helpful technology, but also react with extreme violence to any aggression. they claim to be on earth to study.... something, but it’s never entirely clear what. the book makes some interesting choices (like immediately skipping over the actual first contact to a few years in the future, when the aliens are already established on the islands) but i thought much of it was kinda disjointed and confusing. 2/5
the heart is a lonely hunter, carson mccullers look, i get it, it’s all about the isolation & alienation (& dare i say loneliness) of 4 miserable characters projecting their issues on the central character singer, who is kind and patient and also deaf and mute, thus making him the perfect receptacle for their issues without really having to connect with him as a person and how that isolation hinders them socially, artistically, emotionally, politically, but like... i didn’t really like it. i didn’t hate it but i just felt very meh about it all. 2.5/5
acht tage im mai: die letzte woche des dritten reiches, volker ulrich fascinating history book about the last week(ish) of the third reich, starting with the day of hitler’s suicide and ending with the total surrender (but with plenty of flashbacks and forwards), and looking at military&political leadership (german and allied) as well as prisoners of war, forced laborers, concentration camp prisoners, and everyone else. very interesting look at what kästner described as the “gap between the not-anymore and the not-yet.” 3.5/5
firekeeper’s daughter, angeline boulley) i’ve been mostly off the YA train for the last few years, but this was a really good example of contemporary YA with a focus on ~social issues. ANYWAY. this is YA crime novel about daunis, a mixed-race unenrolled ojibwe girl close to finishing high school who is struggling with family problems, university plans, and feeling caught between her white and her native familiy when her best friend is shot in front of her and she decides to become a CI for an fbi investigation into meth production in the community. i really appreciated how hard this went both with the broader social issues (racism, addiction) and daunis’ personal struggles. there are a few bits that felt a bit didactic & on the nose (and the romance... oh well), but overall the themes of community, family, and the value of living indigenous culture are really well done & i teared up several times. 4/5
the magic toyshop, angela carter i love carter’s short stories but struggle with (while still liking) her novels so far. this one, a tale of melanie, suddenly orphaned after trying on her mother’s wedding dress in the garden, coming of age and awakening to womanhood or whatever. carter’s really into that. it’s well-written, sensual as carter always is, and the family melanie and her siblings are sent to, her tyrannical puppet-maker uncle, his mute wife and the wife’s two brothers, both fascinating and offputting (& dirty) make for an interesting cast of characters, but overall i just wish i was reading the bloody chamber again. 3/5
barchester towers, anthony trollope (chronicles of barsetshire #2) (audio) lol tbh i still don’t know why i am committing to this series about, again, church politics in 19th century rural england, but it’s just so chill & warm & funny (we love gently or not so gently - but always politely - mocking our characters) that i’m enjoying it as a nice little trip where people do some #crazyschemes to gain church positions or fight over whether there should be songs in church or whatever it is people in the 19th century fought about. it’s very relaxing. there also is a lot of love quadrangleyness going on and that’s also fun. trollope has weird ideas about women but like whatever, i for one wish mrs proudie much joy of her position as defacto bishop of barchester, she really girlbossed her way to the top. 3.5/5
semiosis, sue burke (semiosis #1) i love spinning the wheel on the “first contact with X weird alien species” & i guess this time we landed on plants! plant intelligence is interesting and the idea of plant warfare is really cool. i do like the structure, with different generations of human settlers on the planet pax providing a long-term view but this allows the author to skip over a lot of the development of the relationship between the settlers and the plant and locating the plot elsewhere, which i think is ultimately a mistake. i might continue w/ the series tho, depending on library availability. 2.5/5
one by one, ruth ware a bunch of start-up people go on a corporate retreat to a ski chalet in the alps, avalanche warning goes up, one of them disappears, presumably on a black piste, the rest get snowed in & completely cut off when the avalanche hits and then they get picked off *title drop* (altho really not that many of them). nice fluff when i had a miserable cold (not covid) but fails when it tries to go for deeper themes... like an attempt to address classism and entitlement sure... was made. also like what kind of luxury skiing chalet does not have emergency communication devices in case internet/phone lines are down...  i’d have sued just for that. 2/5
fake accounts, lauren oyler the microgenre of ‘alienated intellectual(ish) probably anglophone person has some sort of crisis, goes to berlin about it’ is my ultimate literary weakness - i almost never really like them, they mostly irritate me & yet i can never resist their siren call. this one is p strong on the irritation, altho at least the narrator does not ascribe much meaning to her decision to go to berlin after she a) discovers her boyf is an online conspiracy theorist (probably not sincerely) and b) gets a call that said boyf has died, it’s really just something to do to avoid doing anything else. but other than that it’s so BerlinExpat by the numbers, like she lives in kreuzkölln! put her somewhere else at least! there is one scene that elevates the BerlinExpat-ness of it all (narrator asks expatfriend for advice on visa applications, expatfriend assures her that it’s really easy for americans to get visa, adds “especially now” while literally, as the narrator remarks, gesturing at the falafel she’s eating) other than that, the novel is.... fine. it’s smart, but not really as smart as it thinks it is, which is a problem bc it thinks it’s just sooo incisive. whatever. 2/5
the tenant of wildfell hall, anne bronte this is reductive but: jane eyre: i could fix him // wuthering heights: i could make him worse // wildfell hall: lmao i’m gonna leave his ass anyway i enjoyed the part that is actually narrated by the titular tenant of wildfell hall, helen (which thankfully, i think, is most of it) because the perspective of a woman who runs away from her abusive alcoholic of a husband is genuinely interesting and engaging, while gilbert, the frame story narrator who falls in love with helen, is.... the worst. i mean he’s not the worst bc the abusive husband arthur is there and hard to beat in terms of worseness, but he’s pretty fucking bad. imagine if helen had found out that gilbert attacked her secret brother over a misunderstanding, severely injured him & LEFT HIM TO DIE & then (when dude survived & the misunderstanding got cleared up) apologised like well i guess i didn’t treat you quite right! she’d have to run away from her second husband as well! poor girl. 3/5

The Masked Singer Season 4 Episode 5: Last but not Least, let's (finally) meet Group C! (Commentary and Guesses)
Hey fellow Masked Singer fans! Welcome or welcome back to Ana’s Masked Singer recap, where I, Ana, recap every episode of the Masked Singer. I am so happy to be back after a short break after the World Series (thank God for the Dodgers). If you don’t know how these recaps go, first of all hi, feel free to follow me if you want to see more of these. Anyways, so how these work is that I first talk about who gets eliminated, give my thoughts, and then give my guesses and commentary for the remaining contestants and their performances. I also try to back up my guesses as much as I can by using the clues... even though I guide myself with the voice of the individual contestant. Anyways, having said that, let’s jump into it:
Warning ⚠️: If you haven’t watched the show yet, there are spoilers below, so read at your own risk.. this is your official spoiler alert warning. Don’t say I didn’t warn you...
With this episode, we met our last group of contestants, Group C, which consists of 5 masked characters, Squiggly Monster, Mushroom, Jellyfish, Lips, and Broccoli. Overall, to me, they are the weakest group vocal wise, but they were still fun to watch.
Alright, so let’s talk about the eliminated contestant, who was...
*DRUMROLL PLEASE*
Lips 💋
Tumblr media
Performance: Alright, so she sang “Native New Yorker,” by Odessy.... and I really try to be as kind and constructive as I can with these recaps especially when critiquing their performances because being rude really doesn’t solve anything and I want you guys to understand why I don’t like a performance if I dislike a performance (so we can start an open dialogue you get me?) ... but I am so sorry, this lady can’t sing like at all. Oh and I knew exactly who she was (haha insert Ken’s voice into that phrase lol) the moment she opened her mouth. The thing is she is talking and she messed up in the middle by laughing/snorting in the performance, it was kind of hilarious not gonna lie... it made me laugh, which I guess is a good thing, but like yeah it’s kind of obvious why she left first, because she (I mean no offense to this.. well maybe I do because I am not a fan of the person under this mask like at all since she ain’t kind and civil like at all) blew it, like it kinda felt like she messed up on purpose or that she is actually horrible at singing, which is ok because she isn’t supposed to be a professional singer and that’s fine. All that to say Lips made me laugh and I appreciate it but I am kind of glad she was the first one to go....
Anyways, she was revealed to be (to no surprise of my own) controversial talk show host...
Wendy Williams
Tumblr media
Whoop whoop, I got it right (as did like everyone who knows who she is because her voice is that distinct... oh and also she spoke during the song so it was kind of obvious, but I am still claiming my victory: Gotten 3/5 correct so far and I am proud of that number)! Anyways here are the clues that pointed to her:
Shock= she says very shocking things on her show and is a pretty polarizing figure, you either love her or hate her (I am not fond of her myself but whatever I guess)
“Speak my truth”= she’s known for stating her mind and is unfiltered with her thoughts on things
West Wing= her initials WW
Fire= Hot Takes is a segment on her show and also a reference to her book Wendy’s Got The Heat
Alright, now that we have finished with her, let’s talk about our remaining 4 masked contestants:
1. Squiggly Monster 👾
Tumblr media
Performance: I really liked his performance of Have You Ever Seen the Rain by Creedence Clearwater Revival. He did super well, like I really liked it, I had low expectations because of the costume (it’s kind of creepy looking ngl) but I was pleasantly surprised. Having said that, the moment I heard him, because of his tone, I knew exactly who it was (again insert Ken’s voice here)...
So, for my guess, I think it is Full House actor/comedian:
Bob Saget
Tumblr media
Ok, so besides the voice, lemme give you why I think that clues wise (credit goes to this Screen Rant article for the details idk on my own):
Penguin visual in the package= he directed a parody nature documentary called Farce of the Penguins
Father and a scoundrel= father part due to him actually being a father to 3 girls/his role on Full House as Danny Tanner (a single father of 3 daughters which I think is wow funny) and the scoundrel part referring to his raunchy/dirty comedy
Cookie clues= nod to Michelle from Full House and her love of cookies
“Breaking News” and him on a news show kind of thing= reference to his Full House character Danny Tanner being an anchor for Good Morning San Francisco
He also was on the show as a shrimp cocktail as the friend for the Taco aka Tom Bergeron! So it makes sense for him to come back this season which I am all into
2. Mushroom 🍄
Tumblr media
Performance: Ok, so this is like the most confusing, is it a he or is it a she? That’s the biggest question, my money’s on a boy... so my guess is going to be male (I am gonna call Mushroom a he because of that so I apologize if I am misgendering them, I just need to narrow it down somehow and I am gendering them based on who I think it is, and I feel like he is the correct pronoun). Anyways, I love him, he’s my favorite Group C contestant, and his performance of This Woman’s Work was amazing, people said it was not good, but I really enjoyed it because I am a sucker for a good falsetto and this guy was almost all falsetto, I was feeling it. Having said that, maybe I like him so much because I feel like it is someone I adore, like if I meet him, I will faint status...
Having said that, I think it is Broadway star, heartthrob, actor, singer, adorable human...
Jordan Fisher
Tumblr media
Omg he is so cute... sorry I am gonna stop being 😍 for him I promise. Anyways, big clue was a video of him singing this exact song (I think it sounds so similar, but you guys can judge for yourselves), here it is: https://youtu.be/3lzRsMl8M8Q
youtube
Apart from that, here are some actual clues (with a bit of help from this Screen Rant article) that got my mind thinking it is him:
WAITTT 🤔... before we get into that, what I found interesting is that he tweeted and I quote “Seasonal tweet to let everyone know that ____ on the masked singer is once again not me 💜” and THE MASKED SINGER RETWEETED IT... but also I just checked and this is the first time he’s ever had to clear that up... soooo maybe he’s a liar (bc of an NDA ofc you cannot really spill the beans.... but let’s go with he’s a liar)... a cute liar... but he’s lying.
Ok, now onto the clues:
A lot of Hamilton clues= “a healer and a scholar,” “young, scrappy, and fun-gy,” “shroom where it happens” = he replaced Anthony Ramos as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton in the Broadway musical Hamilton (and also can reference his Broadway roots in general like being on Dear Evan Hansen)
Started at a “rat race” and Men in Black were mice= could be a reference to his start on Disney (Liv and Maddie and Teen Beach Movie)
A shot to turn a hobby into a career= reference to him streaming video games on Twitch
Stars clue with audience= he won Dancing with the Stars back in 2017 and also hosted DWTS Junior
3. Jellyfish 💚
Tumblr media
Performance: I really liked her performance of Big Girls Don’t Cry by Fergie even though I felt like she was holding back a bit (I can kind of say the same about Mushroom... but I still enjoyed it). I am really curious to see what she can really do, because I felt her nerves in the performance and like she can do more. This one’s killing me because I feel like I have heard that voice but I can’t put my finger on who it could be
So, with that said, I have no idea who to guess:
But I do know that it isn’t ✨Billie Elish✨
Tumblr media
No, but like seriously, that ain’t Billie Elish even tho a lot of people are guessing it, I am not buying it... you’ll see why in a second, here are the clues:
The Little(ish) Jellyfish title on a book
Reigned supreme in an underwater kingdom
Fans, Tiara (“princess”)

Missed out on normal girl stuff like parties and making friends
Billie Elish “Bad Guy” lyrics in the background= that’s way too obvious for it to be Billie Elish
4. Broccoli 🥦
Tumblr media
Performance: His performance of House is Rockin’/Whole Lotta Shakin Going On by Stevie Ray Vaughan/Jerry Lee Lewis was not what I expected to be honest. I thought it was going to be someone younger or a rapper, but it was an older gentlemen, and he was rockin, not gonna lie. I really liked it, not my favorite though I don’t think he is bad by any means. Anyways, I feel like I know who it is... maybe I am getting this from another person on YT’s guess who I really liked (Shoutout to them idk their user sorry)
So, for my guess for the Broccoli, I think it is legendary singer...
Paul Anka
Tumblr media
The reason why is because of the following clues:
Can of Soup= he won a Campell’s Soup competition and that jump started his career
Tik Tok reference= his song Put Your Head on My Shoulder went viral on Tik Tok
Also, the letterman jacket is very 60s which is his era I guess (my mom knows more ab it than I do)
Anyways, that’s it, guys! I hope you enjoyed this recap, I apologize for how long they are, it’s kind of my thing lol! Don’t forget to comment your guesses (do you agree with me? Disagree? I wanna know below... especially Jellyfish guesses bc I have no idea who she can be), like, and follow for more Masked Singer content. I’ll see you all next week for the Group C Playoffs! Bye guys! 👋🏼

Do you have any book recommendations?? I’m kinda stuck at the moment and I’m about to go to a cute bookshop down the road, so any thoughts on what to look for?
Ooooh I have an entire bookshelf of recommendations lol
Ok so it really depends on what genre you’re a fan of. Here’s some of my favorite books from different genres:
YA (towards the older YA/New Adult range): A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas, Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas, Cinder by Marissa Meyer (this ones for the younger-ish side of YA but I still enjoy it)
Historical Fiction: All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
Sci/Fi: The Martian by Andy Weir
Classics: Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, Tess of the D’Urbevilles by Thomas Hardy, Lord of the Flies by William Golding, The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
Plays: The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Antigone by Sophocles, Macbeth, The Taming of the Shrew, and Hamlet by Shakespeare, Oedipus Rex by Sophocles
If I had to pick my top books: A Court of a Thorns and Roses, Frankenstein, The Martian, and All the Light We Cannot See.
Happy reading, friend!
Ask me anything, let’s chat!

Well, well, well…
Guess who’s back after over a year of hiatus (currently barfing at all hiatuses as a socio-phonetician…)!
My friends and family know that these past 12 months have probably been the busiest months of my life. I was working through co-founding an organization, dissertating, taking classes, and more recently searching for a new job…. while also trying to exercise, cook, be a decent wife, daughter, sister, friend, cat/dog mom. The whole nine yards. So, it’s safe to say if it wasn’t a necessity, I pretty much wasn’t doing it. So clearly, blogging se fue a la mierda.
With all that said, I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel! I’ll be defending my dissertation mid-June, and moving to Erie, PA for a new job shortly after! I couldn’t be more excited, as I feel the faculty I’ve met so far is pretty kick-ass, and I’m stoked to be able to grow as an educator and researcher. A bish can spread her wings and FLY!
I haven’t announced the good news through a classic social media post because it feels shady af since people are literally dying, losing their jobs, and suffering on a daily basis as we try to navigate this new way of life, while Rona’s out here runnin’ rampant.
Speaking of Rona, before I get any more sidetracked, since being quarantined beginning March 20th (or 44 days, or 1056 hours…. but who’s counting?), I’ve been thinking about my family a lot, particularly my dad. Living in NY and working in an Arab grocery store is a recipe for disaster, which has got my stress levels #allthewayup.
I call him daily to do a little check in, and recently, he’s started to use more Arabic with me… even sending me Arabic memes #mamaImadeit! It’s crazy how after spending 29 years on this planet, I’m FINALLY able to take part in that aspect of my dad’s culture. (Shout out to Dr. Zafer for really pushing me in Arabic this semester!)
Sin embargo, even though I can hold my own in Arabic, I’m far from native and even though it’s the native language of one of my parents, it’s my THIRD language! When I think about it, which I’ve been doing a lot lately since thinking about existential questions is the new dissertation procrastination technique, it actually makes me more confused when I try to “define” myself.
Most likely, if I have a kid, I won’t teach him/her Arabic. My husband and I will pass on Spanish, which will be hard since it’s not my native language, meaning that Arabic will pretty much die with me…
On my wedding day, my dad asked me “so, are you planning on changing your last name?” and I could see he was literally holding his breath as he waited for my response. When I told him no….. chacho, that sigh of relief he let out could literally be felt by all of my Sudanese ancestors LOL. But all jokes aside, it’s truly heartbreaking to think that with me, that cultural tie will die.
How do you pass on a culture that’s not truly yours? Identity is so complex, and even if I wanted to identify as Sudanese, I couldn’t. The moment another Arab hears my Arabic, it’s like …… “ohhhhhh so you’re American! I was confused because your last name is Mohamed” and then the “wait you’re not muslim…? But your dad is muslim sooo??” Literally, I’ve heard that at least 67 times.
At LEAST!
Let’s also not forget the fact that I didn’t visit Sudan until I was 18, and I’ve only been there twice. Let’s ALSOOOO not forget that I’m black lmao. Can’t really hide that one lol, and I could literally write a book on the complexities of being black, but for the sake of this post, I’m just gonna leave it at that.
Actually in Saudi Arabia
Literally, no caption needed.
To further complicate the identity mierda, I was also 18 the first time I went to Puerto Rico; but, I’ve been so many times that I’ve literally lost track. My husband’s Puerto Rican, I’ve been given an honorary Puerto Rican/Caribbean card by several Puerto Ricans, including my suegra. I speak Spanish fluently and have a slight Caribbean accent when doing so, I worship Marc Anthony and Hector Lavoe, my favorite dessert is flan, favorite music genere is probably reggaeton (#rachetontheinside)… así que….. What the heck am I?
Better question. Where is my honorary Arab card, because nobodyyyy has offered that up to me yet and I’m pretty sure a bish will be waiting on it until she dead dead.
How does one construct their identity, and what factors play a role in that construction? Is there some formula I can throw together that will give me my identity. Like, Flan de queso + Bad Bunny = Boricua, kinda? Is there a certain amount of times I need to go to Sudan before I’m accepted as a “true Sudanese?,” a certain amount of lexicon I need to acquire before I can claim that dialect of Arabic?
      Classic.
Most days I’m black. Punto. But some days, I’m confused and unsure. My hispanic friends tell me I’m Puerto Rican. Don’t get me wrong, I know I’m not, but I find it so interesting that I can be completely accepted in that culture, but struggle to be accepted by those with whom I share heritage. I also think, since I basically just became a real adult, what type of identity/culture will I pass on to my potential kid… or maybe my 10 cats… It’s a toss up at this point.
First trip to PR with my favorite meerkats!
Processed with VSCO with a6 preset
At the end of the day, as I reflect and basically find no real answers lol, one thing I can say is that at least I know how to navigate so many spaces and cultures. I’m literally a freaking chameleon. There’s “yasss sis” black Sherez, “Hacho mano ehto e’ un palo” Caribbean Sherez, “ship ship wen?” sorta Arab Sherez, and even “Excellent! I can certainly have that to you by 5pm,” navigating-white-spaces Sherez. LOL Maybe that’s what I’ll be passing along. Chameleon training 101.
So anyways. Congrats! You’ve made it to the end of this stream of consciousness blog post. I guarantee this is not how my academic writing is LOL.
If YOU have any struggles, comments, insights, lo que sea, about identity, feel free to share! And share this post too lol. I’m tired of hearing about Rona. Let’s change it up and talk about some existential ish!
-Sherez ❤
Identity crisis... existential questions during cuarentena! Well, well, well... Guess who's back after over a year of hiatus (currently barfing at all hiatuses as a socio-phonetician...)!

Ok I’m sorry but these name surveys have turned out to be loadsa fun for me so let me just take another one lmaooooo.
I honestly find it therapeutic since it allows me to reflect and look back on all of the people I’ve crossed paths with before, whether for better or for worse :) Sorry if I’ll repeat names/explanations, I’ll do my best to remember more stuff about them!
aaron: Already mentioned this in the last survey, but he’s a part of my high school friend group. He was one of my first guy friends ever and he was very nice to me from the very beginning; always made sure I felt like I belonged in a crowd. Also studies in UP and I think he is taking up sports science because he wants to go on to med school. abby/abbey: This is my mom’s name. She goes by the first spelling. I know an Abby from high school; she studies in La Salle now. adam: I don’t know him personally but there used to be a dude from WhatCulture Wrestling (a popular YouTube channel) named Adam – he was my favorite to watch until he got caught in a major fuck-up and was booted from the group. adel adrienne ajee
ajla alan: I have an uncle named Allan. He was part of my dad’s friend group in college; they met each other in their org. He was in every birthday party when I was a kid, but I don’t see him anymore now because his family already migrated somewhere else. alex: Broad comm student who plays the guitar and sings well; I haven’t talked to her. I also knew an Alex from 6th grade and she was just...not a very bright student. She had to move because I don’t think her grades reached the standard in my school, and now I think she lives in California. If not there, then somewhere else in the States. Alex is a fairly common name here, though, and I know I’ve missed out on a bunch of other Alexes.
alexa: Again, another girl from high school. Was a cool girl and a party girl from the very start. Like I said in my past survey, she lives in Australia now. alexis alexzandria alicia: My friend Alliyah’s boss, who she has a huge crush on, is named Alicia but she goes by Alice. alisa allie/ally: Gossiping fake loser from our rival journ org who does nothing but spread black propaganda about our org to keep people from joining ours – when she talks to us, though, she’s super nice. I’m so fucking happy she’s graduating because she has such a toxic personality :(  allison: Former prof in Comm 100. Wasn’t very good but I had a crush on her from the very first lecture. She had a serious car accident in the middle of the sem and had to wear like a nose brace thing for the rest of the sem. alycea/alycia alyssa: I rode the school bus with a girl named Alyssa but I was much closer to her older sister Alex. There’s also an Alyssa from broad comm and I was classmates with her in my political science, history, and broad comm classes for this semester. She’s the niiiiiiiicest girl and would always help me out if I have missing notes or whatever. amanda: Girl from my org who’s taking up engineering. I was her VP last semester, but she had personal problems and so she wasn’t able to work much under me. Whenever she did, though, she was always reliable. Quiet girl, a little socially awkward. amari amber andrew: I first met him at a rally/protest I attended in 2017. Hit it off well right from the start because I saw that he was wearing a wrestling shirt, so we bonded over WWE that day. He plays the guitar and has released his own EP, is a junior DJ at one of the hip radio stations in Manila, and has done his fair share of hosting gigs. He used to take up engineering but shifted to journalism as he likes it better. Is very adventurous and amiable but tends to get too friendly; some might find it tiring but I honestly think it’s just his personality. He was my groupmate in communication research and I thought he was decent. angela: My best friend’s name is Angela. We first met each other in Grade 1 when we were 7, and we became friends after I stabbed her palm with a newly-sharpened pencil. She still has the pencil mark today. anna: Anna is a popular secondary name in the Philippines, but no one actually uses it as their main name. anne: Same with Anne. annie: My grandma’s best friend who used to come over the house every Sunday. Like I said in the past survey, I’m honestly not sure if she’s still alive lol. She was already pretty old when I was still very young. anthony aasad ashley: I *think* I have a distant cousin named Ashley that I first met at a family reunion last year. But let’s be real, Filipino families are huge and I don’t even know if I remember her name correctly, if she’s even an Ashley. aubri: One of my closest friends in high school was Aubrey. We were very, very close in junior year until she dropped a bomb on me that her family was migrating to California by the time we start senior year. We don’t talk anymore because of the distance and the timezones, but I’ll always be there for her no matter what. Incredibly talented dancer and figure skater. She’s in UCLA right now and as far as I know she is killing it over there. austin autumn: I know an Autumn from my wrestling fandom days. I think she was a redhead, but I don’t remember anything else. barbara becca: A girl from broad comm. She was one of the principal actors in one of the productions we did for BC and she has a really cute laugh. Super elegant; she reminded me a little bit of Audrey Hepburn because she was really graceful. She’s the older sister of my orgmate Rita, who’s from psych. ben beth bethany betty: I have a friend-ish named Bettina. Betty’s kind of like a goofy nickname; she actually doesn’t use it but I think it still counts. I’ve known her since first grade; she peed her skirt in our first day of Grade 1 and I remember her crying a lot. She had a wild TV show phase starting from Grade 5 and she was into Nicole Kidman, Paula Abdul, Kara DioGuardi, Shania Twain, Celine Dion, Stana Katic, Kate Walsh, etc etc etc and a bunch of shows like Private Practice, Grey’s Anatomy, Castle, Suits etc etc etc. She was super shy, very awkward in person so I’m glad her love of TV shows and actresses sprung her into life for the most part. She’s in UP Manila and I think too busy to get into fandoms now. bijan bobby bram brandon brandy breanna/brianna: Brianna is my friend Pat’s middle name. I honestly used to be so envious of this name of hers because I thought it sounded really nice, but now I think it kinda sounds like a bratty name hahaha. brendan brian: I have an uncle named Bryan, but we aren’t related. He’s my mom’s cousin’s husband. He’s VERY shy and likes to keep to himself or his kids at family gatherings but turns really cool when he’s had a little to drink. brittany/brittney/brittni brock brooke bruce buck cameron camille: Nice girl from my childhood school bus. There’s an unofficial norm in private schools in that when you’re older, you get to be mean to the younger kids. Not her. She was always nice and include us second graders in her antics in the bus, even though she was several years older. I was bummed when I found out they moved to the States. candy carina: I used to ride the school bus with a Carina but she was much younger. I was already in high school when she was in kindergarten. She’s the younger sister of Carissa, who I always found to be pretty weird. Anyway, these girls were clearly rich and pampered; they had a nanny ride with us in the bus. carly: I had an Internet friend named Carley; she was my first online best friend. We met here on Tumblr in like 2012 and got close because we were both huge fans of Stephanie McMahon at the time haha. We would video-call EVERY afternoon when I would come home from school while she would get ready for school (she’s from Pennsylvania). Eventually she’d disappear off the face of the earth and stopped talking to me but resurfaced a few months later. She’d continue to do this like 10 other times until I got tired of getting my hopes up of having her back. She’s tried reconnecting with me again on DMs but I just ignored it cos I knew there was a good chance she’d just cut off our communication again. We’re still Facebook friends and she’d pop up on my news feed from time to time, but that’s it. carol: I have a great-aunt named Carol. But my grandma has so many sisters that I honestly do not remember which one she is. carrie cassandra: I had a batchmate named Kassandra, who went by Kasey. Really bright, sweet, intelligent girl. She moved to Singapore in 7th grade. She was very, very simple and very kind to everyone and you wouldn’t be able to tell that she’s crazy rich. Her dad’s a top exec for a famous food and drink company and she lives in the same village I do–their house is guarded 24/7. cassidy chantel charlotta chelsie: Chelsea’s part of our high school friend group and is also crazy rich. We always hung out at her place because her house is huge. She’s very maarte, which I cannot really translate to English...the closest term is probably high maintenance hahaha; but she’s very sweet and generous and kind too. cheryl chris: One of Gabie’s best friend is a Kris. Other than liking outdoorsy stuff like going to the beach and hiking which is all I know about her, I think she’s also half-American. christopher: I have an uncle with this name but like I said his nickname is Perry. He works abroad like my dad (his brother-in-law) and my dad’s sister (his sister-in-law). cienna clare: Guidance counselor for several grade school levels. Understandably, she is very maternal. I once had a nasty fight with another girl and we had to be sent to her office. clarissa: Went to school with a Clarisa. We first met in Grade 4 because she rode my school bus, and instantly clicked. She was very nice, very sweet; she was simple to the point that, like Kasey, you’d have no clue how rich she was. She lives in a huge mansion now but she lived in a huge house before that as well, it’s crazy. Really, really sweet and she would give the best hugs. I played table tennis a lot with her in high school too. She studies in Miriam now but I’m not so sure about her course. claudia: Already said a lot about her in the last survey. Popular girl her whole life. She still goes to a bunch of parties but she is so much nicer now than she was when we were younger. cody cole collin corey corinne: One of my former teachers named her daughter Corinne. I think she’s 8 this year. courtney crissy: Chrissy was one of my very best friends in preschool and grade school. She looked Chinese even though she had a Filipino-sounding surname, and I was never sure if she had Chinese blood or not. She was boyish so she was very rowdy, liked to play rough, and punched other girls if she got pissed; but other than that she was very quiet and shy. She was constantly on the basketball team too. Eventually her family moved to Canada. crystal dallas dan danielle danika: An orgmate that worked under my committee two semesters ago. She’s from business ad and was juggling another org so she wasn’t very active at all to begin with. Her performance just plummeted every month and she ended up ghosting my org last semester–never replied to anyone when we tried to check up on her. I was very mad at her until she restarted contact with us recently and explained how tumultuous stuff suddenly got in her personal life and mental health that she had to take care of herself for a while, which we all understood immediately. She’s coming back to the org this year and we’re more than ready to welcome her. She’s very charming, goofy, and kind. She has a very life-of-the-party personality haha. danny: I have a friend-ish named Dani that I met through Angela. We all sat at the same table during the senior ball at Ateneo in 2016 so we got to talk then. She played volleyball in high school and she studies in San Beda now. She wants to take up law school so I think her course is in political science.  darious david: Pat’s boyfriend from Serbia and Patrice’s boyfriend from economics HAHAHAHA. Also a sucky groupmate from my comm res class who did absolutely nothing to contribute in the final paper that Hannah and I worked our asses so hard for. dean deanglo derrick destiny devin dillon donna dwayne [Random survey-taker note: these are all very Western names...] emie emily eric: My godfather is an Eric. Like my Tito Allan, he also met my dad through their college org. He’s an exec in a bank now and is suuuuuuper rich. Has a daughter named Arya which he could’ve named after the GoT character but am not really sure about that. everette felicia gabby: Wildly popular name. 1) My girlfriend’s name is Gabie; 2) there was another Gaby in my high school batch. 3) I have a friend from the Tumblr wrestling fandom named Gabbie who was really good in Photoshop – we study in the same school but have never met each other. 4) I have a high school batchmate whose little sister is a Gaby, annnnnddd I also just remembered that 5) there was another Gabbi in the wrestling fandom who also made good edits at the time. gerald gina guliana gloria: Do last names count? Hahaha. Gloria is the surname of my instructor in my class in international relations just this past sem. He’s a new faculty member but is craaaazy good at teaching; clearly knows what he’s talking about. He was passionate about his subject and I always admired that about him. I was really sad when class had to end. grace: I have a great-aunt named Grace; he’s my late grandpa’s sister. She’s really...quite fabulous; she has connections with super prestigious people and has a fancy wardrobe. She’s the only Filipino grandmother I know who goes by ‘Nana’ to her grandkids, which I note because Nana is like a super Western thing afaik. She has drama queen tendencies though and can be sensitive to a lot of things lmao. gracie hannah: One of the close friends I’ve made in college so far! Our first meeting was when she and Macy moved from UP Los Banos to the Diliman campus (where I study) and the three of us enrolled in our classes together. I was closer to Macy first, but eventually me and Hannah got a stronger friendship. Best groupmate, workmate, and David Archuleta fan I know. Sings great and plays the piano great. An absolute angel. hasan hawa hayley: I only know a dog named Hailey lol. heather: Someone from my high school batch is a Heather! We were never in the same cliques but she is one of the friendliest people I know. She knows how to talk to anyone which I appreciated. We bonded over One Direction in high school and she also confided in me a few times about her relationship and how her parents forbade her from seeing her boyfriend because he was trans. She also studies in my school now, taking up business economics. We barely see each other but say hi whenever we do. holly hunter ibro isaac isaiah jack jackie: One of my aunts has a relative named Jackie and I literally only found this out earlier when we met up and caught up with each other. jacob jacquelin jaden: A kid of my mom’s best friend is a Jaden. He was named after Jaden Smith because he was born during the time the Karate Kid remake made big waves. jake: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I had a garbage instructor with this name. This dude was in charge of my weekly crying binges and panic attacks because I was never sure if I was gonna pass his class. He seemed to enjoy giving all of us failing marks too which made me hate his piece of shit ass more. He’s supposed to be really good at what he does but I guess knowledge just does not always translate well in the classroom. Ended up passing his class, but now I’m cursing his ass forever. james: I have a younger cousin named James. I’ve only met him twice; once when he was a newborn, and then when he celebrated Christmas 2018 with us. His family’s lived in New Zealand and Vietnam since 2008, which is why we never get to see him, and why he does not remember me at all. janai janveia jared jason jay: My uncle is a Jay; he’s my mom’s brother. I disowned him as my uncle many years ago. He’s a terrible drunk, a disgusting smoker, and an annoying freeloader. I tried giving him a chance before, but after I found out that he drunkenly punched a cat once, I ignored him forever. Sometimes my mom and grandmother would ask me to acknowledge him at family gatherings, so I’d have to begrudingly do so; but other than that he’s out of my life. jazmine: There was a Jasmin from my old school. She’d always been very artistic and she was into K-Pop very early on. She’s taking up linguistics in my school now. jeana jeanette jen: Girl from the now-ancient Tumblr wrestling fandom. She’s probably the biggest and most passionate wrestling fan I know as she would follow both the mainstream and indie promotions the last time I checked up on her. She was kinda vain and kept on taking selfies while captioning each one as ‘ugly.’ I remember that she has a dog she really loves, and that she lives in Boston. jeralyn jerry jesse jessica: Meh, annoying girl from high school. I’m sure she’s nice(?) but her personality just didn’t click with me. She was too vibrant and too friendly that it almost seemed fake; but what do I know, I never really made the effort to know her better other than bonding over 1D here and there. jim jocelyn jodi: I know a Jodee from my old school. Spoke straight English, is intelligent, but is a huge goofball and very mischievous/rebellious. She was a smartass and liked testing the teachers’ patience whenever she can, but she always did it in a very funny way I think. She was often called to the guidance counselor’s office for having relationships with other students (I went to a Catholic all-girls’ private school, so this was obviously not allowed) but she always stood her ground about it and was never afraid to fight back. She had a phase of unhooking our bras in like 5th grade. joey: My blockmate has a younger sister named Joey. I think she is also studying in UP. john: The cousin I’m closest to is named John, but it’s not his preferred name. jonathan jordan josh: I know two Joshes, but only because they are boyfriends of a couple of acquaintances. jossie julia julie junior justin: I went to school with a girl who initially went by Justinn, but like she all wanted to start calling her by her other name, Ria, as we grew older. I also briefly rode the school bus with a girl named Justine, but we didn’t talk much. kailyn kaitlyn kaleb: Chelsea’s brother is named Caleb. kali karrie karli kasey: Oh, I guess Kasey (under Cassandra) falls under this too lmao. kasahwn katarina: Not exact, but Katrina’s a fairly popular name where I live. My cousin’s boyfriend is named Katrina, my aunt is a Katrina (but she goes by Bianca), and I also went to school with a Katrina even though her nickname is Cheenie. kate: Already talked about this in the last name survey. I met Kate through my org; she’s a huge joker/goofball, is naturally very friendly, and has an awesome wardrobe. When she’s bored and we both aren’t doing anything, she puts makeup on me. Works very well but is also a huge partier HAHAHAHA. katie: This is my nickname for Kate, if that counts. kayla: There’s a Kayla in my college, but her course is in broad(cast) comm(unication). I remember her very well because she is the first person I EVER talked to when we had our freshman orientation in UP. We didn’t become close after that. She’s pretty, has nice clothes and hair, is part of the popular circle, and she’s part of streetdance which is like one of the cooler orgs on campus. kelli kent: I have a younger cousin who’s a Kent. We used to be close when we were both kids, but now we’re shy towards each other. He was obsessed with dinosaurs when he was younger, like 5 or 6. kerna kevin kiana: I have an orgmate named Kiana! SOOOOO pretty and has like the clearest skin. Very simple and down-to-earth. Is nice but can kick your ass because she has a black belt in taekwondo. She’s smart as hell and I’m pretty sure she’s graduating as magna cum laude, besides the fact that she’s going to UP Law right after. kiley kim: I also have an orgmate named Kim :) He’s the sweetest guy ever, and is just so easy to talk to. He has a really cute relationship with one of the org’s alumni. I didn’t get to bond with him much but am sad all the same that he’s graduating this year :( kimberly: Went to my old school with a Kimberly but she went by Kim. Was one of the rougher, lesser-behaved kids. She was a demon in grade school. Not quite sure how she’s doing now. She’s my friend on Facebook but can’t really care less about her life updates. kirsten kristy kyle: Kyelle is a kinda good friend of mine. He’s from the same circle, but we aren’t close in particular. He’s very nice though, very silly and likes to goof around. laila lain: I used to have an orgmate named Laine. She was our VP for External Affairs two years ago. She’s now in law school. leah: Cheenie’s mom is a Lea. She’s probably the best mom friend my mom made from my school hahaha; she’s known me since I was 4. lexi: I have a high school batchmate named Alexa but I think she goes by Lexi, judging from her Twitter name. Is naturally quiet but gets very friendly when you get her to open up. Easy to talk to. liam: Liam is my youngest cousin, I think. He was born in 2014 or 2015. I’ve never seen him, because he and his family lives in New York. I’ve only ever met his big sister. :( lilly: This girl I was classmates with for a journ elective. I found her to be verrrrry pretty and she had the biggest, most piercing eyes; until I found out that she was one of those die-hard Catholics who are vehemently pro-life. She once defended a fraternity whose members were confirmed to be misogynist, sexist, racist, homophobic and transphobic pieces of shit in a leaked groupchat simply because she believes in ‘forgiveness.’ She caused another ruckus two weeks ago when she made known her pro-life views well known. I wanna unfriend her ass so bad but she just keeps making all the wrong opinions that I just wanna stay and watch her get schooled by my less-than-thrilled college mates hahaha. lina liz: If I remember correctly, there was an Elizabeth from my wrestling fandom who went by Liz. She lives somewhere in the UK, had reddish hair, and was in love with John Cena lmao. She would sometimes make edits too. loren: Other than the Lauren I mentioned in the previous survey, I also had a friend named Lauren from the Tumblr wrestling community too. She was one of the first friends I made. She was two years older than me, fancied Andy Samberg earlier than anyone else, had a cool room, was obsessed with cats, and loved tie-dye stuff. lydia lyndsey lynnette macaila mack: JM’s dad goes by Mackey, if that counts hahahaha. He’s a lawyer and a college professor. mckenzi macey: I went to high school with a Macy and now she’s in college with me too. She used to study in UPLB but moved to Diliman after a year, since she always planned to take up journalism (she didn’t pass the cutoff initially, so she had to stay in LB for a year before she moved). I was very close with her throughout high school, but idk, she’s just never been in a good place mentally so our friendship is very up-down-up-down. I tried to reconnect when we were reunited in college, but she’s found her crowd now so I’m happy for her nonetheless.
There’s also a Macy in my org who worked under my committee for a year before she moved to finance. Quiet girl but was always nice to everyone. She’s also graduating this semester :( maddie madison margo: Went to elementary school with a Margo but she preferred to spell it as Margauxe lmao. We became close for a while because we rode the school bus together and she would lend me the other half of her earbuds so we can listen to Ashley Tisdale’s Headstong and Vanessa Hudgens’ V every day (this was when High School Musical was peak popular). She sort of had a tumultuous family life here until she moved to Hawaii a few years ago. I think she may have moved to California now too. maria: Again, this is like the base name for like half of all Filipina girls. It’s so common that it’s just simply shortened to ‘Ma.’ because everyone knows what it stands for. marina marisa: Kayla’s middle name is Marissa. marquis mary: Macy’s first name is Mary. mathew: I know a bunch of Matthews from both high school and college but they all go by Matt. The one I remember the most is Matthew from another high school friend group who was close with my group. Our group was invited to their Christmas party, and they had a gimmick that each member of their group was gonna be paired with someone from ours, and it was gonna be a costume party. I was paired up with Matthew (but they called him Cho), but I never went to the party so I never got to meet him. I’m sure he’s nice, though. matt: See Mathew. maura mechelle: I have an orgmate named Michelle. She’s clumsy, kinda awkward, but she does it in a very cute way and we all love her because she’s so funny haha. She passed the toughest med school program in the COUNTRY but chose journ in the end. Is the most Chinese Chinese-Filipino girl I know. megan: I know someone whose middle name is Megan but she goes by a different name. melissa: Hahahahaha. I knew a Melissa all right. Freeloader. meredith mersadies micah: I was classmates and friends with a Micah in grade school. My parents and hers were close, so we became close too. She was very smart but I remember her to be deathly afraid of walking on beams when we had to do it in PE. She moved schools in the fifth grade, and she studies in UST now. michael: His full name is Michael, but Mike is a guy I almost went out with in high school. Wasn’t really attracted to him, but he’s like super smart so it was a huge plus point for me lol. I also have an orgmate named Michael but we all call him Elis. He’s unreliable. miranda: If surnames count, Gabie’s best friend’s last name is this haha. molly monica: Some girl who went to my old school but transferred schools early on, like in 2nd or 3rd grade. She was Gabie’s childhood friend though so I still hear from her from time to time. She’s in UP now too, but I don’t know what course she’s taking. morgan nashid natasha: I went to high school with a girl named Natasha, but she goes by Tashie. Huge girl and a beast at softball. Can be a big softie but she has weird mood swings too (and when she’s mad, she’s quite violent) so I just tried not to piss her off while we were still in school together lol. nate: Yeah he’s in the same college as me but I know zilch about him other than he’s supposed to be really good in making films. nathan neema nichole: Annoying younger busmate who graduated high school this year. nick: Nick is the codename I gave to one of my first crushes. Obviously not his legit name so I don’t think this counts. nicholas olivia paige preasia preme prisilla: When I was still applying for AIESEC, Priscilla was assigned as one of my groupmates. I was originally iffy because she didn’t get online to work until like 11 PM, but when I did see her start working, she was a GODDAMN BEAST. Amazing. Did everything I assigned to her. When I met her in person the next day, she spoke very well and was very put-together. My respect for her soared even more after that. I dropped my application soon after for unrelated reasons but it was a pleasure working with her. Last I heard, she’s a councilor-elect in her local college’s student council. rachel: My math teacher in Grade 1 was a Rachel. I don’t remember her at all, except for the fact that when she found our class noisy one day, she completely stopped talking and mimed everything for the rest of the 45-minute period. raheim raven: Creepy, weird dude from my org who’s always looking for a dick to suck. I’m not even trying to insult him, he’s just perpetually thirsty and makes sure the whole world knows it for some reason. ray renee: Sweet, intelligent, hilarious girl from my high school. She’s very makwela, which in English means zany/funny. Her dad is a national basketball coach so it’s no surprise she followed in his footsteps. richard riley rita: Sweet, sweet girl from my org. We all just kinda naturally flock to protect her from bad influences or creepy people because she just has such a sweet soul. She’s my successor VP in my committee. robby: I have an Uncle Rob, but he doesn’t go by Robby. He’s the husband of my aunt (my mom’s cousin). He’s from New Zealand and has a Masters or a PhD in film theory, I don’t actually remember which. ryan: I used to see him a lot at a relative’s house until I was like 8. I’ve never seen him since and don’t actually know how he’s related to us or me lmfao. sabrina samantha: I have a younger cousin named Samantha. Sam was born and raised in New York but visited the Philippines last year and I was primarily in charge of taking care of her. She’s just the cutest darling I’ve seen and has the most perfect accent ahuhuhuhuhuhu. She likes My Little Pony. sara sarica sean: Someone from a lower batch in high school has this name. I never knew her but we follow each other on Twitter loooooool. secilia seliena: My older cousin’s first name is Selina but she goes by her second name, Bianca or Bia for short. We were inseperable as kids but we grew shyer as we grew older :( shannon shauna: Gabie’s orgmate. That’s all I know. She liked my tweets in the past but that’s the most contact we’ve made. shayna shelby sherry seirra skylar spencer steven stevey susan: I have an Aunt Susan. She took care of me my whole childhood; fed me, gave me baths, all that stuff when my mom was too busy with work. She got run over by a hit-and-run motorcycle when I was 9 and she was never the same after. She was crankier and had violent outbursts. tamara: I went to school with a Tamara; her nickname was Tammy. She was a gentle giant; like she was a naturally big girl but was very soft-spoken and SUPER shy. We got close for a while in 4th grade but her paths differed not long after. tashryha taylor tayshaun terrell tiffany: I had a batchmate named Tiffany. She was kinda mean in grade school but got nicer as we got older. I never really got the chance to know her well. tori trevor trisha: Another high school batchmate. All I remember was that she would cheat on tests by changing her wrong answers when the teachers would give our results back so they could correct it for her. Also a big Justin Bieber fan lol. trista tylik vanessa: There was a Vanessa in an older HS batch but she went by Via; she just graduated college yesterday but that’s all I know. There’s also a Vanessa in my sister’s HS batch; she’s half-German and that’s also all I know. victoria: Some girl I had a class with was named Victoria but it’s her middle name; we all called her Kristine. wally will wyatt zach: Another guy from the wrestling group I was in. He was one of the older dudes so I was more scared of him than the rest. zachary: Same answer as Zach. I think this was his whole name. zoey

okay, so today was pretty good. I was having issues falling asleep last night, partially because I didn’t really feel tired but also because my back was killing me and I couldn’t really get comfortable, so it took me a while to fall asleep. I could’ve taken a benadryl but I knew if I did there was zero chance I would actually drag my ass out of bed at 7:45 am to go to church, so I toughed it out and eventually fell asleep. When my alarm did go off at 7:45 I did get out of bed, got ready, and headed to church. Since it’s summer things have been a lot slower than usual, so we had a pretty light load for the babies room for the middle service, which is typically the busiest one but was pretty sparse today. We had 3 babies for most of it with 2 helpers, it’s a good thing we had a low ratio though because there was unfortunately a LOT of crying going on, we did eventually have to call the mom of one of them to come get him because he just wouldn’t stop crying. I was holding a little guy who was just crying away and nothing I could do would help, but I thought maybe one of the rockers we have might calm him down if he was getting tired? so I strapped him into the one we have that is like electronic and moves side to side and up and down in different kind of rocking motions you can program it to do. so I got him in there and turned it on, and probably about 1 minute afterwards he stopped crying entirely, so I was fairly happy with that because I always take it personally when I can’t get a baby to stop crying even though I know how dumb that is lol. so I was proud of my instincts being right here. The rest of the service was okay, some tears here and there but we managed. The service was running late so I had to run from there to the last service I actually planned on attending. Worship was good as always, we had our female lead pastor speaking for the first time in a few weeks, and before starting the actual message she spent a while talking about her life circumstances lately. Sadly, her younger brother passed away unexpectedly at the beginning of the month. He was only 44 and had two kids, the youngest being only 8 months (both of them were in the kids classes last week, and we were very carefully instructed not to greet families with “happy father’s day” unless we knew their personal circumstances. I can’t imagine having to deal with father’s day so soon after losing your father). So obviously there was a great deal of shock and grief that she had been dealing with. Years back her father had also passed unexpectedly at a young-ish age so it was a lot of calling back to that for her. But she wanted to express her thanks to the church for all the support they had been giving her, saying they had so much food sent to the house haha and many other ways people were reaching out and helping. She was talking about her kids stepping up and how their daughter (she’s 9 or 10 I think) basically saying the baby “wasn’t her cousin anymore, he was her brother” and she had practically adopted him, and I had in fact seen her taking care of him for the past two weeks. It was very sweet. So that was a lot of course, but we eventually moved on to the message, regarding how when we feel like we “should” do something, not that we are choosing to, it becomes an obligation, which ends up breeding resentment and entitlement- but we always have a choice to do something from a good point of view. so that was good. It had been raining on and off by the time I got out and I didn’t want to deal with public transit in the rain since it’s been awful the past few weeks, so I ended up getting an uber pool home. It was pretty lively, two other girls and I were in it with our driver and we were all making lively conversation for the whole ride, so that was nice. Once I got home it had stopped raining up here, apparently it had been downpouring for like 30-45 minutes but had now stopped, so we could proceed with our plans (Jess doesn’t like thunderstorms and she especially hates driving in thunderstorms). So I got changed and walked to her place, and we drove up to one of the malls in the suburbs that we like to go to, specifically because it had this one store that was featuring shirts from the “BT21″ brand that makes the BTS related merch, but we went to other stores too of course. We ended up at hot topic first I think, and they had a ton of funko pops on sale for like, $2, and I mean that’s a great deal, so I ended up grabbing a DC Bombshells Hawkgirl because why not? I also grabbed an RM BTS funko pop since he’s been my designated favorite in the group (mostly just because he was an easy choice and I can appreciate that we have the same initials, even if his stand for a pretty absurd nickname) and got the two of them. From there we ended up finding the one store we were looking for, they didn’t have the exact shirt Jess was looking for but she still ended up buying two of the other ones. From there we went to a few other stores (including what we nicknamed “the gay store” and grabbed a few things, I ended up getting a piece of Captain Marvel “wall art” from FYE that has some sort of like wood backing so it was kinda heavy lol but I like it, and then two t-shirts from Aeropostale which I hadn’t shopped from in like 12 years, but they were doing a buy one get two free t-shirt sale so I mean, can’t pass that up. Once we had gotten to all the shops we wanted to hit up we headed over to where they have their Cheesecake Factory because that’s always a must. Once we got there we were at the edge of the mall and looked out the windows to see that it was now downpouring here. Great. So we ate our dinner, and by the time we finished up it was still raining so we split a piece of cheesecake and kinda killed some more time until it let up. It was definitely all like flash thunderstorms, going super intense for a short period of time and then gone in a second. So we headed out from there and back to the car, and headed home. We did pass through some downpours on the way home but thankfully they were fairly short-lived and the other rain was very minimal. Once I got home I spent a while on my computer trying to figure out the design I wanted for my business cards since I figured I should be getting some of those if I’m still somewhat running my own practice, so that was frustrating for a while lol but I ultimately came up with something I was pleased with so that was good. From there I just watched more Anthony Bourdain (I considered starting season 3 of Jessica Jones but didn’t want to pay too much attention to the tv and I knew I’d have to pay attention to follow JJ) and just went on my computer for the rest of the night, then showering and starting to get ready for bed, and now I’m here. Tomorrow is gonna be interesting, I need attempt to get back to Target and retrieve my other prescription if they’ve actually filled it yet because they were having issues with it today, and then I have an allergist appointment that’s gonna take fucking forever and I’ll probably feel stressed about getting work done but oh well, not much I can do about it now. I’m pretty tired so I’m gonna go to bed now. Goodnight friends. Hope your Monday doesn’t suck.

Ranboo talking to Anthony Padilla about the anxiety of when he once tried to make an irl vid before the mask and stuff, oof I feel that.
At one point I actually wanted to make irl videos on my channel, kinda mixed in with the music and/or just actual videos of me singing and such. I had a couple vids of me singing up for a couple years before I finally just privated them. Plus at some point several years ago I wanted to make a little intro about me type video and just do little vlog-ish type vids talking about whatever, but I couldn't even record the about me vid because my anxiety would get worse and worse the longer the recording light was on until I'd genuinely start running out of breath. I definitely wouldn't have been able to actually edit it tbh for the same kind of reasons ranboo talks about.
And that was when I was like 20. I'm almost 25 and tbh it hasn't really changed, so I can only imagine how bad my anxiety would have been at like 16/17. Even the idea of just talking to an audience or having to edit that kinda freaks me out. I do kinda want to have more of an online presence one of these days so maybe I'll be able to get past that lol
Idk there's not a point to this post, I just think it's neat that video content creators being faceless or mostly faceless is very much a completely accepted thing without really damaging your chance at building an audience as long as the content is good

Day 30 – BDRP Character Wishlist: A list of 10+ characters you’d like to see in the RP (for you to play or someone else!)
EMMA’S (VERY SELF-INDULGENT) WISH LIST
Part 1: THE INSIDE OUT EMOTIONS
So I wanted to get Joy or Sadness a while back but it never really panned out and guess what I saw (the first third of) Eternals and it gave me an Idea. Bc I just love superhero type stuff ok. Here is my pitch: the Inside Out emotions are a bunch of empaths who can give or take away their specific emotion-- so like Joy can give or take away happiness, Fear can do the same with fear, etc. And it generally kinda drains them/makes them tired to do it (I’m picturing like Nina in Grishaverse type deal if ppl are familiar) and the process of working with that emotion all the time means it has generally infiltrated their demeanor. And here’s the fun part: they all got recruited by some big bad politician type and helped them try and gain power (bc emotions are powerful!!) and then in the end they kind of realized what was going on and that the person they were working for was evil and took them down and it was a big thing in the news (and very good PR for Magicks, yay Magicks) and NOW THEY ARE HERE IN TOWN TO BE IN THE VFD!!!
It’s my favorite kind of superhero story which is the supers have to adjust to their lives as normal(ish) people, and also maybe kind of a found family vibe. And maybe they’re like youngish still and their whole lives they were “Magick prodigies” and now they gotta figure out what they’re doing with their lives. Maybe some are going to college, maybe some are getting jobs in town, maybe someone is tempted to go back into the business of selling emotions... who’s to say? But they all live together in this big house and have this found family type thing going on.
The more I write about this the more I want to do this, please do it with me!!
I even have FC ideas! (Obviously these r just suggestions use whoever u want)
Joy: The “leader” of the crew, she’s actually on the younger side but she’s very capable/confident and maybe was the first to be be recuited when she was really young.
FC: Kiersey Clemons
Tumblr media
Sadness: Best frenemies with Joy, she was recruited around the same time but she doesn’t like to be in charge of things so she defers to Joy. They fight all the time but they go way back and kind of have this deep bond.
FC: Belissa Escobedo (bring her back!!!)
Tumblr media
Fear: Another early addition, he is terrified of Joy and he and Sadness have this kind of “we get each other” relationship even though it’s kind of awkward. He’s a little older, maybe got blackmailed into being a part of this and he’s a coward so he just went along with it. He’s struggling a lot with not having someone to tell him what to do all the time.
FC: Nicholas Braun my beloved
Tumblr media
Also this is the part of the post when I suggest Pete Davidson. Sure. He’s tall.
Tumblr media
Disgust: She’s the newest and she sometimes feels a little awkward but she covers it up by acting kind of rude lol. Her and Joy have kind of a contentious relationship even though they act like they’re besties. Maybe she used to be rich but her family lost all their money and that’s how she ended up a part of this.
FC: Anjana Vasan
Tumblr media
Anger: Okay it has still only been a year since the iconique Anthony has left us so idk if we want to bring Anger back so soon. But I think because he is kind of open ended there’s room for a totally different take on him. I think I see Anger as the guy who was never really a fan of this from the start but he stayed in it because he has this begrudging affection for the group and wants to look out for them. Maybe he was the one who uncovered the truth about the guy they were working for and organized everyone to rebel! And he rlly hates that ppl call him a hero now.
FC: This guy from Shadow and Bone has a lot of fighty gifs (Archie Renaux)
Tumblr media
FINALLY, I think Bing Bong should be part of the gang as well. Maybe his name is Bill and he used to be this villain’s assistant or something and they took him hostage or something but now they’re friends idk. Idk! So many possibilities!
FC: Harvey Guillen
Tumblr media
PART 2: ORDER PEOPLE
So, I really think some Order peeps would spice things up right now, especially for Henry, because fun fact about Henry he was very very uncool as a child (I mean he still is but) and I think it would be fun for some ghosts of his past to show up again. I have 2 ideas for Order boys who could come back, and 1 idea for an Order girl. SO.
First, Ryan MacIntosh! I think an Order boy who failed his Blood Hunt is a really interesting idea, maybe people had high expectations for him and he totally let them down for some reason? And now he’s all angsty and determined to prove himself. You could play off some of the stuff in the movie and do an arc where he’s engaged to someone, or he’s supposed to get engaged. And I just think it would be super interesting if he and Henry were enemies as kids lol.
FC: Austin Abrams (this guy just always plays a jerk lol it feels right)
Tumblr media
And then I would also really love to see a Hans! I love his story, I think a youngest child of a giant family is always a super interesting dynamic and especially in the Order where lineage is so important. And since he is so focused on proving himself, I think this could create a lot of interesting tension for existing Order characters. Also just saying if you are like me and loved Bee’s troll lore... just saying Hans hunts mountain trolls so that could be a cool way to dive into that lore. That’s kind of what I did with Henry-- I thought fae lore was so cool-- so a character who is so tied up in it is really interesting to me.
FC: Jacob Elordi (yes it’s the kissing booth guy... he has ominous energy)
Tumblr media
Finally, I think an Order GIRL would be really cool! We have Merida and Elinor who are super cool and I love them, and I think it’d be cool to have an Order girl who’s, like, deep in it. There’s a lot of crazy pressure and patriarchy in the Order and I just think it’d be a cool thing to explore. And so... I think GISELLE would be really cool for an Order girl. Like maybe she’s been told her entire life that her most important job is to get married and be a good Order wife, and I think it’d be cool to write how that falls apart for her.
FC: Vintage FC time I think Ciara Baxendale would be perfect!! she’s so cute and her gifs are great for this
Tumblr media
But if you want someone more recent, Sadie Sink is rlly having a moment right now and I think she would also totally work.
Tumblr media
NEXT I would love to see some PRINCESS AND THE FROG people!!! Sorry this is getting very selfish lol but I have IDEAS!!
First as we all know I would rlly love a Lottie. Maybe she knew Tiana back in college-- maybe they’re friends, ex friends (Tiana didn’t stay in touch with a lot of her college friends so that could be interesting) a former FLAME maybe, or they don’t have to know each other but like it would be fun if they did right. I just love the trope of the rich person who has to learn what regular people’s lives r like (very Prada or Nada very Cow Belles) and maybe Lottie got cut off for whatever reason and now she's like Tiana help meee OR maybe it’s like Lottie got BIT BY A WEREWOLF sorry this idea is running away from me but listen it’d be very Caroline Forbes.
FC: honestly this is kind of hard even tho there is NO shortage of blonde girls... I still think Annie Murphy is an iconic choice

I also think AnnaSophia Robb would be a good choice for her

Here is the part where I am self indulgent as if I wasn’t already I would love a NAVEEN!! Maybe he made a bad investment and lost his money and now he has to work at Tiana’s restaurant, or maybe he works for a restaurant group that is trying to BUY Tiana’s Place and he’s been sent there to spy... Idk but I just think the idea of Naveen working in the restaurant would be very fun.
FC: Dev Patel sorry not sorry

I also have an idea for Dr. Facilier that ISN’T related to Tiana’s Place I just think it’d be cool. I honestly think we already flipped the princes around and made them villains, why not make Dr. Facilier a hero? His story is already kind of set up for it: maybe he’s a sorcerer (or a medium?? friends on the other side??), from a place that’s highly suspicious of magic, people used to always go to him for help with things but then the government caught wind of it and now he’s on the run. And he’s very theatrical and dramatic about it but deep down it’s just an act and he’s kind of jaded about the whole thing but maybe he reluctantly takes in a young sorcerer... look I just think it’d be cool. And there is a lot of room to play with his magic!
FC: Mahershala Ali

I have big dreams. Sometimes I feel kinda crazy for having such high hopes but part of me feels like it’s achievable. When I came to know that He wasnt just a regular guy, it gave me a whole new perspective of what I could achieve and to aim higher. It may takes some years, heck even decades but I know I will make a difference in this world. No matter how hard it gets, I’ll never give up. And to all the people that will depend on me in the future forgive me for not taking my dreams or really His dreams not as seriously as I should have. Future philanthropist, future doctor, future check writer, future humanitarian, future woman of God, future BID-NEZZ woman.lol, future slayer...yes I wanna do it all.
I saw Priscilla Shirer this weekend at church and after not going for MONTHS I knew it was a sign. She spoke directly to me. Even had some beautiful ministries by Anthony Evans. I know people dont say good things when they hear my name but thats about to change. Part of the reason for this is because I never completely showed people who I am...I mean I started but I never finished the job. I know people have given up on me and I mean thats kinda fair I guess. But I know there will be one day where people hear my name and it will bring them so much joy to their hearts. It’s whats God has done for me so it’s only right to give it back. This is why Jesus is my best friend. I can tell Him everything and He doesnt judge. Even when I get angry for dumb stuff like a family saying something that I shouldnt let rub me the wrong way He calms me down and tells me I am better than that. When I struggled with sin, He didn’t laugh at me or look down at me when I stumbled. When I was an outcast He said I had worth. Me...Rukevwe...I have worth. Naw...I aint ish. Lol jk It still hurts that nothing has changed since highschool...literally. But maybe just maybe my dreams....no His dreams will come to fruition and I will be a woman of substance one day. I know it’s gonna be hard. Extremely hard..but I hope that the new Rukevwe is worth it.
