Hi hello! I have not finished a cross stitch in three years! 2024 is starting off very weird, I literally got this idea in my head two days ago. Made a pattern by eyeballing a screenshot, picked my colors, and 7 hours later I have a Starlo. My desk now has 100% more yeehaw on it.
I first learned about Undertale Yellow just a week ago, but I was so blown away by the characters! I like Starlo a lot, like him enough that he SHATTERED my hiatus like glass, something I didn’t think I’d ever see happen again.
I stitched him on 18ct aida because I can’t do over one on 28ct anymore, my eyes are fucked up. Also “red clashes with my colors” my ass, he looks great in this red frame I had lying around.
It’s so strange, something felt right the whole time I worked on him, and now it feels wrong that I’m not working on anything else yet. I’m not promising a renaissance, but given my circumstances, there’s a nonzero chance that I’ll be back to my needle on the regular after THREE YEARS of trying and failing to start or finish anything.
Merry Leap Yeap, let’s see what else 2024 has for me 👀

I am on an art kick right now. I’m definitely still writing but this art high needs its flowers too. Because once I get it out of my system I might not be as consistent with it. I have a lot of ideas for new chapters churning.
I want more world building to be done. And I would love to draw more original characters and create my own clans and blah blah blah 🩵🌱🪐

I’m convinced that the only enjoyable izu//ocha shippers are the ones that enjoy it because it’s izu//ocha and yk.. not just because they’re the main straight ship that’s “going to be canon”
Because the appeal of izu//ocha for me is that it’s always been a ship that you could project whatever you wanted ONTO it. “First friend” is just generally a trope that can go in any number of directions. Ochako could be a girlboss and Izuku is just her purse, Ochako could be the one that makes all the plans happen while Izuku is the ideas guy, etc etc. you get the point. In a way, because they ARE underdeveloped, provides what makes them appealing. They can be whatever you want them to be. That’s always been the appeal of shonen relationships (even if that appeal lessened for me).
And what bones did back when we were all going berserk over the season 6 intro, I was just pissed. I haven’t been able to like izu//ocha on its own since. And I think it’s BECAUSE bones stopped letting it be something that the viewer could decide it to be. Because they gave her a spotlight where she… did what bakugou did. And because it was already bakugous spotlight, that just took away from her and her character even more. Her speech wasn’t ABOUT Izuku, not really. It was about her as a hero, who she thought needed saving.
And because of that fact, that’s why I think ochako wasn’t given her actual spotlight and it was handed to bakugou instead.

I hear that G/P are constantly crashing into other skaters. How does that even happen? And how does it keep happening? Aren’t they aware of the other skaters? Skaters must have a certain routine and at a certain point it should be easier to get out of the way by knowing where others will be.
Not sure if that made sense. It’s just that I don’t see a lot of others skaters crash into other so much and so consistently as G/P do 😥
My general theory is that they train in rink where they are the top team, probably have a lot of solo time in on the ice, and are also probably used to other teams getting out of their way since they were/are the head honchos. The same thing goes for Vanessa James and Morgan Cipres, they trained mostly alone and had a good amount of collisions during warm ups, more than any other pair team, because they never had to share the ice at during training.
When you aren’t used to sharing the ice, it shows.

So while rewatching Avatar: The Last Airbender recently, I noticed a trend
A number of spirits we see have an animal form, specifically animals we recognize as "normal" for us. For example:
- Wan Shi Tong is an owl and his knowledge seekers are foxes
- Tui and La are koi fish
- Hei Bai is a panda
-The guardian of the mother of faces is a wolf (The Search)
Heck there's even the talking Baboon spirit and the monkey missing its face that we see in the Spirit World at the end of Season 1.
Basically every time we've seen a "normal" animal, they've been a spirit.
My point? I argue that Bosco is a spirit bear that's chilling and living the good life in the mortal world just because he can.

I've been thinking a lot lately about how Kabru deprives himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kabru as a character is intertwined with the idea that sometimes we have to sacrifice the needs of the few for the good of the many. He ultimately subverts this first by sabotaging the Canaries and then by letting Laios go, but in practice he's already been living a life of self-sacrifice.
Saving people, and learning the secrets of the dungeons to seal them, are what's important. Not his own comforts. Not his own desires. He forces them down until he doesn't know they're there, until one of them has to come spilling out during the confession in chapter 76.
Specifically, I think it's very significant, in a story about food and all that it entails, that Kabru is rarely shown eating. He's the deuteragonist of Dungeon Meshi, the cooking manga, but while meals are the anchoring points of Laios's journey, given loving focus, for Kabru, they're ... not.
Tumblr media
I'm sure he eats during dungeon expeditions, in the routine way that adventurers must when they sit down to camp. But on the surface, you get the idea that Kabru spends most of his time doing his self-assigned dungeon-related tasks: meeting with people, studying them, putting together that evidence board, researching the dungeon, god knows what else. Feeding himself is secondary.
He's introduced during a meal, eating at a restaurant, just to set up the contrast between his party and Laios's. And it's the last normal meal we see him eating until the communal ending feast (if you consider Falin's dragon parts normal).
First, we get this:
Tumblr media
Kabru's response here is such a non-answer, it strongly implies to me that he wasn't thinking about it until Rin brought it up. That he might not even be feeling the hunger signals that he logically knew he should.
They sit down to eat, but Kabru is never drawn reaching for food or eating it like the rest of his party. He only drinks.
Tumblr media
It's possible this means nothing, that we can just assume he's putting food in his mouth off-panel, but again, this entire manga is about food. Cooking it, eating it, appreciating it, taking pleasure in it, grounding yourself in the necessary routine of it and affirming your right to live by consuming it. It's given such a huge focus.
We don't see him eat again until the harpy egg.
Tumblr media
What a significant question for the protagonist to ask his foil in this story about eating! Aren't you hungry? Aren't you, Kabru?
Tumblr media
He was revived only minutes ago after a violent encounter. And then he chokes down food that causes him further harm by triggering him, all because he's so determined to stay in Laios's good graces.
In his flashback, we see Milsiril trying to spoon-feed young Kabru cake that we know he doesn't like. He doesn't want to eat: he wants to be training.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then with Mithrun, we see him eating the least-monstery monster food he can get his hands on, for the sake of survival- walking mushroom, barometz, an egg. The barometz is his first chance to make something like an a real meal, and he actually seems excited about it because he wants to replicate a lamb dish his mother used to make him!
Tumblr media
...but he doesn't get to enjoy it like he wanted to.
Tumblr media
Then, when all the Canaries are eating field rations ... Kabru still isn't shown eating. He's only shown giving food to Mithrun.
Tumblr media
And of course the next time he eats is the bavarois, which for his sake is at least plant based ... but he still has to use a coping mechanism to get through it.
Tumblr media
I don't think Kabru does this all on purpose. I think Kui does this all on purpose. Kabru's Post Traumatic Stress Disorder should be understood as informing his character just as much as Laios's autism informs his. It's another way that Kabru and Laios act as foils: where Laios takes pleasure in meals and approaches food with the excitement of discovery, Kabru's experiences with eating are tainted by his trauma. Laios indulges; Kabru denies himself. Laios is shown enjoying food, Kabru is shown struggling with it.
And I can very easily imagine a reason why Kabru might have a subconscious aversion towards eating.

Meals are the privilege of the living.
