notes after rewatching fallout s1 ep1

so once again like a crazy person [i've done this with star wars sequels before] i've decided to take three and half pages of notes over the course of an hour. i've been a fan of the games for at least a decade and i'm actually always watching lore content between the installments though so while i do know some minute details, within the show, there was some things i was interested in and curious about that i just decided to jot down. some of this may be things discussed already and some of it might be something i wasn't sure if anyone brought up before but anyways! maybe i'll do the whole season, but here's my ramblings • them titling the episode "the end" was when i knew i'd love the show • ok but i really wonder if cooper can still do those party tricks? he was really good at them and lucy would probably love them too 🥺 • thinking back, the radio in the first scene mentions not knowing where the president is--- beginning to wonder if he was the guy sitting in on the vault tec meeting • just realized they introduced the mr. handy robot in some of the first scenes • ten years of nuclear threat according to anchor but the show is careful not to give away all the cards because why does the weather anchor make it seem like they know when the bomb will drop? idk but birthday boy mother turns off tv real "head in the sand" like • the nat king cole song that's playing though [wondering if the song is mirroring specifically cooper's feelings about barb despite everything hmm] • horse's name is sugarfoot 🥹 • him having to pay alimony... wonder what the prenup? was like... [still think he probably loves barb 😞]

• them calling him a pinko despite him being an architect of vault boy's persona, a quintessential presentation of a "man's man" acting as a cowboy, a real cowboy, a former marine--- wondering if there was a smear campaign after his situation with barb and vault tec, him working children's parties leads me to believe... • did the kid's say the birthday boy's name was boyd? [if so, there's another character in the games with this name and this is also the name of a character walton has played in another series, funny] • weather man show's up again distressed, wondering if we'll get more info about that day • everyone ignoring, cognitive dissonancing their own nuclear annihilation is so prescient if not disturbing and damning

• him teaching janey the thumb thing ☹️ • cooper's voice when he says "let me see if i can't rustle you up a piece" 😩 • janey being the only one to notice the first bomb • the fear in cooper's eyes • cooper being in denial one last time before realization sets in • people becoming animals the moment they realize what's happening--- one guy punches his friend not letting his family into the fallout shelter • people getting into their cars and cooper onto his horse to escape--- wonder how fast they could be since it doesn't seem you could outrun nuclear annihilation

• lucy being raised so well under the circumstances 😔 [hope she never becomes her father] • i haven't trusted steph since episode one • lucy being a teacher [amongst other things] and asking maximus about what happened after the bombs fell makes so much sense [and also much like another person suggested is an interesting juxtaposition to cooper's pre war knowledge] • lucy showing how skilled she is for being a marriage candidate when in reality we are seeing someone fit for the wasteland is crazy on second watch • is lucy not watching a cooper howard movie with her dad? hello??

• them reading "war and peace" in the family book club is rich • lucy [thinking] she's not good at guns, ironic • steph having to step in like a sisterly type because lucy's mom isn't there 😞 • the wedding dress on lucy being ill fitting, tight as symbolism for lucy not truly "fitting in there" and being constrained [foreshadowing] oof • the vault boy sign in the back saying "don't lose your head" lmao • didn't catch the "cousin stuff" until someone mentioned it on tumblr and twitter 💀

• the flashback we see of lucy ending up being almost a false memory, a misrepresentation of her actual memories, that she has been on the surface, in the sun • norm taunting lucy about her future husband being "anybody" and a "cannibal, crammed full of tumours" 😭 unfortunately for ghoulcy, this was some of the heaviest foreshadowing [the raider also could have been one too] • why didn't hank recognize moldaver? • so many things i still don't understand about vaults 31, 32, 33 • the growing realization they are raiders was pretty funny to me lmao

• moldaver having to sit through the disingenuous lies of hank ugh • norm going into vault 32 like they wanted them to know what was up? or is that just how vault doors work? they used lucy's mom's pip boy [that hank lied about burying] • lucy putting norm in a protection vault, she really is so strong • the handed down wedding dress getting messed up • i am curious if the raiders [shady sands survivors?] only mostly harmed vault tec aligners but maybe not • the way hank and steph retaliating a little too well • hank acting like he doesn't know moldaver when everyone really does know moldaver • moldaver telling lucy she looks like her mother is really such a tipoff

• realizing maximus is getting bullied 😭 • dane... might love maximus a little idk • from latrine duty to basically ruling over the brotherhood of steel • they really showed some dude jacking it lmao it's just normal i guess 💀 • maximus being defeated and having a rightful outburst of emotion, poor guy • the poster saying "the outside world can never harm you"--- funny • chet would've died up there 😭 • them not opening the vault back up for her, wondering if the vapourized bodies are from the initial bomb drop or the subsequent shady sands ones • dane almost gets maximus killed three times tbh • maximus joined the brotherhood of stell to get back at what vault tec did, essentially hank's doing, hank has many enemies

• knowing the enclave, it makes sense why siggi is hunted • cooper the ghoul's introduction though • the bounty hunter saying his captors dig cooper up every once in a while to cut pieces of flesh off him 😞 no wonder cooper acts the way he does 😔 he's been taken advantage of, no wonder he doesn't trust anybody is horrible to everyone • "why is this an amish production of "the count of monte cristo" or the weirdest circle jerk i've ever been invited to?" why would he say this 😭 • cooper's... been invited to circle jerks 👀 • does the bounty hunter know the ghoul is cooper howard?

• him not harming the chicken, him healing dogmeat, there's something there, folks • people only digging him to use him again 😞 • what a coincidence he's dug up just as lucy leaves the vault • "i do this shit for the love of the game" he's a character, he's playing a character, real theatre kid • hence why cooper is introduced as "the ghoul", cooper is long gone • "us cowpokes, we take it as it comes" something about this lineee

#i hateeee doing bureocratic shit id rather die tbh #im not gonna get it but if i did (which im not lol) i would be getting payed which isnt as bad as it could be #its only like one week tho but its still something #plus something i could theoretically add to my cv #WHICH BTW I NEED TO SEND IN FOR THAT #but like. the internship is agronomy-related and it tells you you need to put things related to that that youve done #and ive done. nothing lmao???? like my agronomy work is 'i have a vegetable garden i sometimes take care of'#and 'my grandfather was a farmer' like that is... nothing #also this job consists of being at an info stall for an agronomy conference thing. so you dont actually need /that/ much agronomy knowledge #i think??? idk😭my mom told me she would help me make my cv but shes sick and i dont wanna ask her. plus im also not feeling too well myself #but also its one of if not the biggest agronomy fairs in spain and ive never gone so it would be rly cool to go #bc a lot of farmer ppl and their families get to go bc they know someone who sells tickets to go. but me... well lmao if my dad [redacted]#then maybe. but not anymore so this is one of my only chances of going lol #but anyways like the only qualifications i can put on my cv is: studies agronomy. has worked at [redacted] student dorm. and that is #not qualification worthy. also the grades count and... i have shit graaaadeeessssss god i hate this #z xarre

not to be morbid on main but my life is so strange every day i'm fighting with my inner suicidal child trying to convince her to stay alive out of spite for our enemies

#this entire year i've been forced to relive past trauma -> which i'd been able to finally process but it doesn't involve just me #so basically i processed it but my family hasn't and they keep putting the blame on me for everything and guilting me for it #even though i was a literal child. in short the fact that i ''acted out'' by running away from abusive situations was and still is worse #than the actual abusive situations i was put in. as a child.#so like... i can forgive and understand and empathize with my past self at last (instead of feeling suicidal like i did for years)#but if nobody else in my close family circle does then i have to essentially stay strong and remind myself that they're wrong #point is that when i was 11-12 i would react to the emotional and physical abuse by basically putting myself in dangerous situations #and attempting suicide a couple of times lmao. staring at the train tracks every other day #because the fact that they beat me was NORMAL for me (my mom told me that i was 2 the first time my dad hit me)#and they were acting like i was (i quote) ''bipolar'' and mentally ill and acting out out of nowhere and i couldn't fully understand why #i was doing certain things at the time. so i put the entirety of the ''blame'' on myself. and later on my mom would make me feel guilty #about it for a decade to win arguments -> which almost every time start with her gaslighting me until i start crying and yelling so then she #can call me crazy. and she can make ME feel crazy so i won't take her accountable. so she avoids taking responsibility for her actions (past #and present). i finally realized this when i told her that one of the most traumatic events of my life was when she found some smoking #filters in my drawer (she used to go through my stuff all the time) that i was LITERALLY KEEPING FOR A FRIEND and she dragged me out on the #balcony by my hair and beat me. she would beat me in public places all the time to humiliate me. even my school friends remember this #and she said 1) ''it didn't happen'' and 2) ''i don't remember''#so that's that. either i'm crazy and i fabricated the memory out of nowhere... or she's not taking responsibility for her actions.#and like... I KNOW it happened. but i'm very sensitive to gaslighting (as she does this all the time about other things as well)#and sometimes i literally have to hug myself and rock back and forth and essentially try to convince myself i'm not crazy #that's the situation i'm in rn :) cool #thank god the therapist moved my appointment to tomorrow because i'm about to implode or perhaps ask for money in advance to purchase drugs

that doctor post i just rbed is making me think abt how when i described my life-inhibiting anxiety and depression (the symptoms not the illnesses) to the doctor at my wellness check she started off by giving me breathing exercises and encouraging me to keep my physical health as good as i can i.e. sunlight and hydration and exercise. and like don’t get me wrong that IS good advice but i’ve literally been working on that for years lmao. thank god for my mom who explained that A.) i know all of this and B.) i’ve been to therapy before. thank you mom for making sure i’m not also diagnosed in my 30s :))

#i hated talking abt my brain shit to a doctor btw #the one cool thing that happened was her validating that my tic is an actual tic #(and then going ‘not a tourrettes type of tic but one brought on by anxiety’#yes i know ma’am)#it was so funny i’d be like ‘yeah i study psych as a hobby so i know i’m probs a bit of a hypochondriac but i wanna get checked out #bc i do have actual notable symptoms + a colorful family history so. safety first :)’#and she was just like ‘cool! here’s a nifty breathing exercise. also i appreciate how clearly you communicated all that’#which was actually a nice compliment bc i spent a LOT of time rehearsing getting help in my head #but at the same time like. miss doctor i do the breathing exercises and the sunlight and the water and the friendship and the sleep #can’t complain too much tho. i did get a list of referrals :)#eternally fucking grateful to my mother for supporting me so hard with all of this #my dad is hesitant to get me to see a psychiatrist bc he has an aversion to pills #i’m not even at the point of prescription i’m looking for diagnosis #but my mom should go to bat for me there. probs bc she’s the one who’s taking psych pills #i understand my dad’s worries- you don’t wanna see a surgeon if a chiropractor will fix it just as well #but like. the surgeon can let me know if anything is more deeply wrong. a chiropractor can say ‘this may be bigger’ but they also might not #yanno. i’d love to go back to therapy but i think also putting some words to my brain shit will help a lot too #he’s offered getting me to a therapist before a psychiatrist and i’m just like. why not… both lmao #why not see a therapist. AND a psychiatrist #that conversation ended with me walking away so i wouldn’t yell at him whoops #we never resolved that. note to self #when my dad and i disagree on psych stuff it can get dicey sometimes #yes he learned abt it in college but he was a dropout and reading the dsm III.#i have less experience but i do have some experience and it’s more recent #we both like jung tho. jung rules great dude

while i like not having to answer to my mother about my mental health it’s wild to me that im exhibiting Symptoms constantly and she doesn’t ask anything. i just realized how wild that is today

#she’ll do nice things for me sometimes which is nice but im fully realizing again how her ability to handle other ppls mental health is #zero lmao #i feel like i have a more stereotypical emotionally distant father son relationship w my mother than i do w like. my actual father #we’ll talk. like today i though id ask questions that id been thinking of concerning myself. like do you have goals and stuff like that and #she did end up asking it back to me and i said not really but i just realized that i don’t remember her ever asking me something like that #or if she has asked before then it was to ask and never think about it again.#gonna think about this some more tonight probably ☠️#like my father asked me a few months ago if my mom cares about my mental health and i was just like i don’t talk w her about it lmao #it may be a testament to how well i hide things from ppl i want to hide them from but also of how ive just been like this 4 the last decade #and she just accepted that that’s reality but on the other hand my dad cares if im depressed or not. & true i do talk w him about it but he #also knows enough about ppl to know that depression symptoms shouldn’t be like constant behavior &maybe there should be an intervention or #something lmao. idk. it’s just interesting to see the differences clearly
