â THROWN TO THE WOLVES (X)
PART ONE || PART TWO || PART THREE
PART FOUR || PART FIVE || PART SIX
PART SEVEN || PART EIGHT || PART NINE
PAIRING â Na-Baron Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen x fem!Reader // Atreides!OC
SUMMARY â Muad'Dib's forces attack the palace during the imperial visit on Arrakis. The new Baroness Harkonnen must face her past and choose her future.
AUTHORâS NOTE â Itâs written as an usual x Reader fic without describing anything about the Readerâs looks but I still classified it as an OC as well since she is Paul Atreidesâ half-sister. A month ago (March 6th) I went to the cinema to watch Dune: Part Two and I stayed up until 3am to write the very first chapter of this fic despite having morning classes on the next day. đ I couldn't have known back then what a journey this would be and how many lovely and amazing readers would be so engaged in this story! đ This is the final part â but I am willing to write additional one-shots with these characters in the future. Thank you everyone who suggested me the baby names. I went with the idea commented by @alexandrainlove since it made sense to me due to the fact I have already used the name before in this fic. I loved all your recommendations, though! đ„° Also, I want to credit @houserautha for pointing out that the thick Harkonnen blood (as I have described it in this fic) would actually be an advantage in combat because it would make bleeding out to death more difficult. I know some of you might be disappointed or sad about some events in the last chapter â I decided to go with my original plan for it because, at the end of the day, I can't possibly please everyone anyway. I loved all your ideas and assumptions, though, they made me rethink my plans many times. Love you! đ

THROWN TO THE WOLVES (X)
You watched the imperial ships land through the window with anticipation and anxiety. They were huge and covered in imperial sigils, now covered with the sand and spice. The symbols of power and influence â a reminder of your whole existence being reduced to the subject and a servant.Â
Escorted by the guards, you walked down the corridors to greet the guests. Your husband stayed inside to call upon other leaders of the galaxy. Feyd feared that the Emperor had arrived on Arrakis to once again take it from the Harkonnens because of some whim. He wouldnât let that happen, especially now when it was the first day of his rule as The Baron. Losing such an important planet on the beginning of his reign was a political suicide. But The Harkonnens were in possession of an imperial secret that the Emperor wouldnât want anyone else to know â his troops had been used to kill the members of the House Atreides⊠your family. Having other galactic leaders knowing that would mean the end of the Emperor and Feyd-Rautha would not hesitate to threaten him if he was about to take Arrakis from you.
You had just found out that secret and pretended it had not bothered you at all when you walked down the corridor to go outside, accompanied by the guards, with your hand clasped on your abdomen and chin held up high. However, realising the Emperorâs true nature had given you some sort of fighting spirit.
You stood and awaited to face him â The Emperor. The man who was responsible for the death of your family. The next goal of your ambitious gameâŠ?
You watched the first men walk out of the imperial ship. The Sardaukar fanatic soldiers caused a shiver to go down your spine. Your few Harkonnen guards suddenly started to feel like little mice locked in a cage with a bunch of fat cats. You almost overlooked The Padishah Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV. He was older and weaker than you had expected and remembered from his visits on Caladan. At the sight of him, your mind filled with intrusive thoughts of how easy it would be to simply⊠get rid of him.
The Sardaukar soldierâs loud and powerful salute at their Emperor made you shake those thoughts off. Then you spotted two women leaving the ship as well and you started to feel sick when you noticed Bene Gesseritâs Reverend Mother dressed all in black with a veil covering her face.
But youâd recognise her everywhere. You remembered when Lady Jessica had walked you out of your birthday party after turning sixteen. She had taken you to a dark room where this very Reverend Mother had been waiting. Your humanity had been tested in the Gom Jabbar and never before nor after you had experienced such pain in your life. The Reverend Mother had looked at Lady Jessica and uttered out only three words to describe you.
Human⊠but weak.
You hadnât gone back to the party. Instead, you had spent the rest of the night by your motherâs grave where your father had eventually found you.
You had been hoping to never see that woman ever again in your life. But here she was now, once again testing you on such a special day as the beginning of your reign.
The other woman was much younger. It was Princess Irulan, daughter of the Emperor. You looked deep into her eyes and she stared back, widening hers. Her dress looked like armour, too.
You had met her only once where you two were children. You had been playing together but she had been very upset at the fact that you had been holding the same title.
âI am not as important as you are, Irulan,â you had been trying to explain to her. âDukeâs daughter is called a Princess but our ranks are not equal. You are an Imperial Princess.â
âI should be the only Princess in the galaxy,â Irulan had pouted at you.
You approached the delegation and bowed down. Technically, you should be kneeling but the late Baron Harkonnen had taught you a few things before his pathetic end. One of them was to always remind the Emperor of the power the Harkonnens were holding. To treat him more as if he was an equal than a superior. You commanded an army bigger than him and your wealth was much more impressive.
âYour Imperial Highness,â you looked up at him and straightened your back. He was staring at you and furrowing his brows, most likely surprised that you were greeting him alone with only a few guards. âYour visit is an honour to us,â you added. âSadly, we experienced a great loss last night as MuadâDibâs forces assassinated our beloved late Baron Vladimir Harkonnen,â you faked a shiver of your voice. âForgive the new Baron,my husband, for not coming out with me to greet you, Your Imperial Highness. He is very busy with his new duties and obligations,â you explained.
The Reverend Mother leaned into the Emperor's ear and whispered something to him. You didnât like that at all. But he only nodded and raised a hand at his guards to keep following him as he approached you slowly.
âI am very sorry to hear about your loss, Baroness Harkonnen, Duchess Atreides,â he addressed you elegantly and you bowed down again. Once he joined you, you began to walk side by side. His daughter and the Bene Gesserit followed very closely.
âThank you, Your Imperial Highness,â you faked the sadness of your smile.
âThe reason for my visit is the man you have mentioned⊠MuadâDib,â he added and you raised an eyebrow at him.
âWell, I am aware that we have not caught him yet but now, after last nightâs events⊠I am sure my husband will do everything in his power to avenge his uncleâs death. MuadâDibâs days are numbered, Your Imperial Highness,â you tried to assure him. âHe is nothing but a terrorist. Not only he slayed our late Baron but also some of the servants and most of the guards.â
âWhat a miracle that is that you and your husband were spared,â The Emperor pointed out and you could swear that there was a shadow of a smirk on his face.
âPrepare the throne room for The Emperor,â you looked at the servants approaching you and they nodded before running away as fast as possible with their heads held low. Then you turned around to look at The Emperor again. âNot lucky, no. We just werenât the main target. But I am sure he will be back for us.â
âForgive me, Baroness, I need to rest after the long journey,â The Emperor nodded at you and you bowed down.
âMy servants will show you to your rooms as the throne room is being prepared for you to use it when you are rested, Your Imperial Highness,â you told him and nodded at another pair of servants who had just approached you. âPlease, do forgive us for our lack of preparations and todayâs chaos.â
âIt is quite understandable after such a tragedy,â he assured you and walked away with his daughter and some of the soldiers. The rest of The Sardaukar stayed inside to monitor the corridors.
You turned around, ready to go back to your husband when you almost bumped into The Reverend Mother who had stayed behind you.
âExcuse me,â you faked a smile and tried to walk past her but she stood in your way once again. âWhat seems to be the problem?â You asked.
âThe child inside you was not a part of our breeding program,â she stated casually. You felt your son moving as if he knew she was talking about him. You put your hand on your swollen womb protectively.
âI do not care about your breeding program, with all respect. I just want to give House Harkonnen a male heir,â you explained.
âThe child is too powerful,â she told you but her words did not make you proud. They sounded too sinister to take it as a compliment.
âIn what way?â You raised an eyebrow. âAm I not weak, Reverend Mother?â
âThe Harkonnen medics have overdone themselves, Baroness. Your child does not only have all the best genetic material of your flesh and mind⊠but of all the Atreides and the Harkonnen families. He will be an unstoppable force if trained properly,â the woman whispered.
âI have already promised you a daughter⊠under certain conditions. I am not giving you a son,â you hissed.
âThat is the point, Baroness. It is a shame your child is a son. But do keep going⊠If the Harkonnen medics are so advanced already, I cannot wait for the daughter you will give us,â you could spot a smile under the veil as your jaw clenched.
âIf I were you, I would fear the day she is born,â you nodded at her and walked away. This time she allowed you to, but she kept staring at you until you disappeared behind the corner to go back to Feyd and tell him about the reason for The Emperorâs sudden visit.
âI have brought back the spice production to full efficiency, Your Imperial Highness,â Feyd explained himself as he was looking up at The Emperor sitting on the Arrakisâ throne with his daughter and The Reverend Mother standing beside him. He had been questioning your husband for the last fifteen minutes, as if it was really an interrogation which would decide whether he should keep governing Arrakis or not.
âHave you, Baron Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen? Or has your late uncle done that?â The Emperor asked.
You were standing a step behind your husband, with your head kept low and your hands clasped on your abdomen, playing a dutiful wife. You knew that showing off your power and influence in front of The Emperor would only make Feyd look even weaker in his eyes.
âHe was a great help but I was The Governor of Arrakis, with all respect,â Feyd answered, trying to hide his anger and frustration.
âAnd what about that idiot brother of yours?â
âCount Rabban has been dismissed. Heâs on his way to Giedi Prime now, Your Imperial Highness,â Feyd nodded.
âHis problems with the spice production were a result of the activity of the mysterious MuadâDib⊠You still havenât caught him either, have you, Baron Harkonnen?â The Emperor hummed to himself. âAnd last night he slaughtered your uncle, so Iâve been told⊠Tell me, what do you know about him?â
âHeâs one of the Fremen, I assume. A leader of a terrorist group with great influence,â Feyd explained.
âAnd you, Baroness?â The Emperor addressed you and you looked up, too, surprised to be included. âI have been told of your influence in the House Harkonnen. Do not play a shy mouse with me.â
You smiled nervously at his words and bowed down slightly.
âI did not mean to play anything, Your Imperial Highness. Please, do forgive me for my sombre mood today after last nightâs tragic eventsâŠâ You batted your eyelashes at him and took a step forward. Now you were arm to arm with your husband. âI do not know more than The Baron about MuadâDib,â you added as your heart pounded in your chest.
âLiar!â The Reverend Mother exclaimed suddenly and the whole room went silent. Feyd turned his head around to squint his eyes at you and with the corner of your own you spotted a hint of sense of betrayal upon his face.
âI am not a liar, Your Imperial Highness,â you shook your head. âI can not know for certain.â
âBut you do have your assumptions,â The Reverend Mother pointed out and you swallowed thickly, feeling the weight of this secret on your shoulders.
âI am suspecting that MuadâDib might be my brother⊠Prince Paul Atreides,â you whispered.
âThe Atreides are all dead,â Feyd drawled through gritted teeth. âThat is impossible.â
âSo I thought,â you nodded. âBut Paul has been haunting my dreams since the first night I came here. After some time I started to realise that they might not be dreams at all⊠More like visions. He has been communicating with me and it appears to me now that he might have survived in the desert after The Harkonnen invasion,â you avoided looking into anyoneâs eyes.
âWhy havenât you told me about those visions?â Your husbandâs voice was full of anger and betrayal and it surprised you how much you hated to make him feel this way. After all, you two were supposed to always play on the same team.
âBecause I thought they hold no significance,â you finally dared to look into his eyes again. âWhat does it change who he truly is? And I could not be sure anyway.â
âWhy would Paul Atreides communicate with Baroness Harkonnen?â Princess Irulan asked and you looked at her. âDo not misunderstand me, my Lady, but you are no Bene Gesserit. You hold no telepathic power like that.â
âHe is not communicating with her,â The Reverend Mother pointed out. âHe is communicating with her son. Because if MuadâDib is as powerful as they say that he is now, then Baronessâ unborn child is the only person who can stop him.â
âStop him how?â You asked with furrowed brows.
âYour childâs powers are not yet fully known but his presence might be interrupting MuadâDibâs foreseeing abilities,â she explained.
âForeseeing abilities?â The Emperor moved uncomfortably on the throne. âWhat exactly are we dealing with?!â
The timing of those words was not of the best kind as a loud booming sound from the outside reached your ears. Startled by it, you grabbed Feydâs arm to squeeze it.
âMy Lord! My Lady!â One of the engineers from the conference room ran inside, breathing heavily with his eyes widened, not even caring about The Emperorâs presence. âThe Fremen⊠They are using The Atreidesâ nuclear weapons to attack us and they are coming at us⊠Hundreds of them⊠Thousands⊠All united as theyâre waving The Atreides flags.â
âDuchess Atreides, care to explain?â The Emperor asked you and you looked at him as if he was crazy.
âIâve had nothing to do with that!â You denied. âI havenât even been told where my father had hidden the Atreides nuclear weapons. If I had known, theyâd be used against the Fremen long time ago, Your Imperial Highness,â you stated.
âItâs MuadâDib,â The Reverend Mother said. âAs he promised to come.â
âWait, you had an agreement with him?â You asked her but she remained silent. âI thought you wanted him dead.â
âWe were curious about him, Baroness,â The Emperor informed you. âWe were supposed to have negotiations.â
Another booming sound made you shiver as the walls around you trembled.
âNegotiations, you say,â you drawled. âThere you have them,â you pointed at the door. âWe donât have enough guards to protect us from this sort of attack, even with your Sardaukar soldiers, Your Imperial Highness! Most of them were slain last night.â
âAnd whose was the hand that slayed them?!â The Emperor yelled and you tried to keep your poker face on but you hated the feeling of fear creeping up on you. You thought you would never be afraid again in your life.
But now you were afraid. You were afraid of the MuadâDib forces outside the palace and you were afraid of The Emperor sitting on a throne above you. He was an old and weak man but his power was still strong enough to cause you harm, especially with his fanatic soldiers surrounding you in the room.
âFear not,â an odd, unfamiliar voice filled your brain. You furrowed your brow and looked around, trying to reach for the person trying to communicate with you. However, the voice was deep and raspy in a Harkonnen way. It reminded you of Feydâs but his face looked pretty oblivious. âFear not, mother,â the voice spoke again and you gasped.
The Emperor thought that you gasped because of his accusation, though.
âI do not care about The Harkonnenâs inside affairs,â he informed you angrily. âHowever, now weâre all paying the price of your last nightâs selfish act!â
You didnât know what to feel or do. You were overwhelmed with anxiety and the new discovery of your sonâs voice being able to communicate with you. The booming sounds were becoming more and more frequent and the Harkonnen guards formed a circle around you and The Emperor alongside the Sardaukar soldiers.
You hid behind Feyd and dug your fingernails into his shoulder. Some part of you wished MuadâDib was indeed Paul Atreides. Well, he had to be since they were using the Atreides nuclear weapons and flags. Your own brother would not kill you, would he?Â
He would understand that everything you had done, you had done to survive. If he had survived in that desert, he would understand everything.
The Emperor, Princess Irulan and The Reverend Mother walked down to stand beside you so the soldierâs circle around you could tighten.
âCan you hear me?â You thought.
âAll the time,â your son answered and you smiled slightly to yourself.
It was a comforting thought to know that.Â
âIs that true that youâre able to stop Paul?â You asked inside your mind.
âI can try,â he answered.Â
âYour voice reminds me so much of your fatherâs,â you kept talking to him and distracting yourself from the sight of the doors being stormed as a horde of Fremen was trying to get inside the room with the sound of explosions in the distance.
âI am his son,â he answered very seriously and you almost chuckled at the fact he was clearly as rigid as Feyd â so logical and stiff even as an unborn baby.
âYes, you are, my darling,â your hand, placed protectively on your swollen womb, squeezed the flesh through the dressâ fabric and that was when the doors opened with a loud bang sound and for a short while you thought you would die on Arrakis indeed, where your fatherâs bones already remained somewhere in the desert. Perhaps it was The Atreidesâ fate to die on Arrakis.
But, after all, you were a Harkonnen.
You had not been attacked, though. Once your guards had been defeated, you were all taken to one of the rooms and locked there with the Fremen guards outside ensuring you would not escape. You were waiting for MuadâDibâs forces to take over the whole palace as you were basically his captives.
Sitting on a chair with Feyd crouching down by your side, you were worried sick about Astra and Cara. You hoped that the Fremen wouldnât hurt the servants but seeing their brutality and barbaric ways, you werenât so sure about it. The Emperor was sitting, too, and staring at you with his eyes squinted.
âIf that really is your brother, Duchess AtreidesâŠâ he started.
âThen what, Your Imperial Highness?â You snapped at him. When his dangerous guards were defeated, he was just an old, weak man and no threat to you. Feyd would slit his throat in half a second.
If he had a knife. But it had been taken away from him and surprisingly, he had been pretty obedient about it. You were grateful because you did not want to watch him getting slaughtered by a whole bunch of Fremen. He was a great warrior but every person had their limits of how many opponents they could take at the same time.
Your knife had not been taken, though. As a woman â especially pregnant â you hadnât been searched properly and you hadnât brought up the fact that you had a knife strapped to your hip under all the folds of your dress. Even Feyd didnât know about it and you wanted it to remain this way. You hoped that you wouldnât have to use it but you couldnât be sure and it was better to keep it a secret.
âI canât be responsible for his behaviour just because I am Duchess Atreides,â you reminded The Emperor.
âIf MuadâDib is really Paul Atreides then you are no Duchess Atreides, Baroness Harkonnen,â The Emperor reminded you. âHis actions speak for your House then, not yours.â
âMy House is Harkonnen,â you only barked at him and turned your face around to Feyd. You held his hand and he leaned in to place a kiss upon your forehead, sensing your nervousness.
âWhat kind of fighter is your brother?â He asked you in a whisper but everyone could hear him.
âHe was bad last time I saw him. Weak and pathetic in combat,â you answered. âBut now he is different. Heâs been training a lot.â
âHow can you know that?â Princess Irulan looked at you, intrigued.
âIf we believe my visions, I know heâs been training. If he is MuadâDib, we donât even have to believe my visions. MuadâDib is the only name my brother-in-law fears and heâs the one called Beast Rabban,â you told her.
âHe is an abomination,â The Reverend Mother spoke up, âin a different, worse way than the spawn inside you, Baroness Harkonnen.â
âWhat did you call my son?â Feydâs muscles tensed.
âCalm down, Baron, she knows what Iâm talking about,â the old woman was not bothered by making him angry. âYour son might be the only hope for us. He is interfering MuadâDibâs foreseeing abilities.â
âI do not like the way you speak of it as if itâs all certain,â The Emperor joined. âIf that is true, then I wish I had known about it sooner.â
âFather, there are some secrets that shall be kept even from you,â his daughter tried to calm him down.
âI disagree.â
âWe shouldnât fight now,â you interrupted them. âIf we want to survive, we have to work together.â
âAnd what do you propose, Baroness?â The Emperor asked you with a contemptuous smirk. âHeâs a madman, your brother.â
âSo is my husband,â you raised your chin proudly. âAnd do not underestimate me, Your Imperial Highness, as I am the madmanâs sister.â
The doors opened loudly and the Fremen warriors looked at all of you with visible contempt that made a shiver go down your body.
âMuadâDib wishes to see you,â one of them barked at you.
Feyd helped you to stand up and you were taken to one of the rooms upstairs with a balcony and a beautiful view. The sun was setting slowly and giving the whole chamber an orange hue.
Gurney Halleck was the first man you recognised. He was standing in the middle of the room and waiting for you. You honestly hadnât expected him to survive The Harkonnen invasion.
Seeing your fatherâs Warmaster broke something in you. It was as if the young Princess Atreides bloomed once again inside your rotten heart. After all, he had known you ever since you were a little girl.
âGurney!â You smiled and ran up to him, not caring much about Feydâs hands trying to stop you. The Fremen soldiers reached for their knives but Halleck stopped them with a small gesture of his hand.
âPrincess!â He smiled at the sight of you as well and opened his arms. You had never been close â not as close as he had been with your brother at least â but seeing him brought back all the memories and for a short while you thought that finally, after all those months surrounded by the Harkonnens⊠you were saved.
You hugged Gurney with a wide smile and he fixed a loose hair strand falling rebelliously on your forehead.
âLook at you, Princess⊠So mature now, arenât you?â He asked in a whisper. There was pain in his eyes and it brought tears to your own.
He was sorry for you. But he was sorry in a different way than all those late Baronâs guests who had been looking at you as if you were a little, innocent, naive prey. He was Gurney, your Gurney and he had known you. You were his Princess. He was sorry for you because he knew who you had been and who you were supposed to be under different circumstances. He had known your heart. Your whims, your moods, your smiles, your laughter, your dreams, your kindness and your humour. He had known all of you.
And perhaps all this time you had been wanting for someone to be sorry for you. You didnât want to be admired for your strength and ability to survive, for your cunning mind and your schemes. You just wanted someone to admit that a great pain had been inflicted upon you and it was unfair to happen to you and brought you nothing but suffering.
Before you could open your mouth and answer him, the doors opened and you gasped at the sight of MuadâDib followed by the Bene Gesserit sisters.
You would recognise his silhouette and his walk everywhere. Your brother, Paul Atreides â it was really him.
Perhaps the shock was not as big as it would be because of the dreams you two had been sharing for the past few weeks.
But was it really your brother His hair was longer and curly now, no longer neatly combed, his eyes were blue from the spice and the way he wore his stillsuit felt nearly as if it was his second skin. You had never seen him so angry and confident, so ready to fight and so bloodthirsty.
The Bene Gesserit surrounded their most important one â sitting on a chair with her face covered in tattoos and sheer veils. She looked familiar to you, you thought, and then she laid her own eyes on you â blue from the spice â and you realised it was Lady Jessica.
Throughout the past few months, both of you seemed to significantly rise in power.
âBrotherâŠ!â You ran up to him, instinctively, despite everything that was telling you not to trust the man in front of you â he was not your brother, he was a shell of Paul Atreides; filled with hate and anger and a newly discovered hunger for power.
Perhaps you two had more in common now.
âSister,â he greeted you with a nod of his head and you froze in your place as you were about to give him a hug but he visibly did not want it.
A long, awkward silence occurred between everyone gathered in the room. You tried to keep your chin held up but your head felt heavy at that moment as you realised that there was no home and no family to go back to.
You were not about to be saved by a long lost family. There was nothing to save you from. Giedi Prime was your home and Feyd-Rautha was your family.
Paul looked down with contempt as his eyes fixed on your abdomen. He was visibly uncomfortable with the presence of your son. He had to sense his abilities interfering with his own.
âIâve been informed that apparently, last night, I have slain my grandfather,â he smirked.
âYour grandfather?â You asked, surprised, and then you laid your eyes on Lady Jessica.
Perhaps that was why you fitted so well with The Harkonnens. You had been apparently raised by one of them.
There were actually many things you wanted to ask her. Why had she taught you how to be able to fight The Voice? Why had she been preparing you for things you were clearly not destined to become? And â most importantly â had she ever had any love for you in her heart?
âI do not mind such accusations,â Paul told you and reached out his hand to caress your cheek. From the corner of your eye, you spotted Feydâs muscles tensing. Your brotherâs touch was surprisingly gentle but it did not feel like Paul at all. And your son was kicking your ribs in a painful way for as long as his uncleâs touch lingered upon your skin. âI have missed you, sister. You never replied to any of my letters.â
âI was not given any letters,â you told him.
âI see,â Paul looked down again, this time he focused on The Atreides signet ring on your pinky finger. âKneel down,â he ordered and you furrowed your brows.
âExcuse me?â
âKneel down, Baroness Harkonnen and I shall spare your life,â he expanded his thought. âI feel sentimental today,â he added. âYou can live, however your husband and the spawn inside you cannot.â
You felt as if he had just spit in your face. That was more offensive than hurtful and more angering than saddening.
âYouâre insane,â you took a step back. âHow dare you speak to me in such a manner, Paul Atreides? Youâre a Fremen savage terrorist now. I am The Duchess of The House Atreides, The Baroness of The House Harkonnen and I will not kneel down in front of you,â you stated proudly.
âI am The Duke Atreides!â He yelled as you took a few more steps back. âI am the son of Duke Leto Atreides and you are nothing but a spoiled Princess that was thrown out and disposed of to die amongst The Harkonnens!â He reminded you harshly.
âThere are ships appearing above the planet,â one of the Fremen interrupted you as he informed your brother. He was staring at a tracking device in his hand. âThey are leaders of the Great Houses. Someone had to call upon them earlier.â
âThat person has done me a great favour,â Paul smirked mischievously. âI am going to inform them about what you have done to my father, Your Imperial Highness,â he addressed The Emperor with contempt. âAnd by defeating you, I will take your daughter as my wife and reign as The new Emperor of The House Atreides.â
âPlease, donât! My father is old and weak! You canât fight him!â Princess Irulan stood in front of her father to cover him with her own body.
âSuch a fight will take no place,â you clenched your jaw. âHe has no right to speak in the name of The House Atreides. I am The Duchess of it and heâs just a Fremen terrorist!â
âPerhaps you havenât heard me right, dear sisterâŠâ Paul started.
âI have heard you perfectly well, brother,â you turned around to face him with raised eyebrows.
âThen you know that I am The Duke,â he squinted his eyes at you.
âI will not give up such a title easily,â you raised your head even higher as you straightened yourself. âI shall challenge you to a duel, brother.â
âChallenge to a duel? Me?â Paul snorted at you. âYou cannot wield a blade sister.â
âI am the blade of my Baroness,â Feydâs raspy voice interrupted you as everyone looked at him.
He nodded at you and you nodded back, approaching him to put a hand on his chest.
âDo not disappoint me, Feyd,â you whispered. âMake me proud like you always do.â
You hoped he was aware of the weight of the responsibility placed upon his shoulders right now. It was not a simple duel with Paul Atreides caused by his wifeâs whim to keep some title. It was a duel about the future of his House, a duel about his childâs life⊠Perhaps a duel about the future of the whole galaxy.
And you hated that on that day youâd either lose a husband or a brother. Losing your husband would be much worse â you couldnât imagine your life without Feyd now and what youâd end up like without his protection. On the other hand, seeing Paul die â even changed like that â would bring you no pleasure.
âGive my husband his blade back,â you barked at the Fremen guards as you stood next to Princess Irulan and watched the guard hesitantly handing Feyd his knife.
âI hope you know what youâre doing, Baroness,â Princess Irulan hissed at you.
âWould you rather get on your knees and beg him, Princess?â You asked her.
âFor my fatherâs life, I would.â
âWell, that is not a tradition of The House Harkonnen to beg on our knees,â you explained.
No one had to know how pathetic the late Baron had been in his last moments. Or how easy it was to humiliate Count Glossu Rabban.
âHave faith, mother,â your sonâs voice brought you great comfort as Feyd and Paul stood facing each other. Hot Arrakis' sun was setting slowly behind them; its light was making them both look more like nothing but dark silhouettes.
âItâs nice to meet you, cousin,â Paul greeted your husband.
âCousin? Is that so?â Feyd looked amused.
âPlease, save your father. Do not let your uncle have any advantage. Let your father have a fair fight,â you pleaded to the baby inside you.
You had to be very desperate to count on the unborn child to save you, you realised.
âMay thy knife chip and shatter,â Paul raised his blade to perform the traditional Harkonnen gesture.
It annoyed you how he displayed his Harkonnen heritage as if he was more of it than you were. He might have had their blood but he was no Harkonnen. Perhaps that was what you had always felt towards your brother above anything else â annoyance.Â
He was simply annoying in a way he was nothing special and yet your father favoured him because he was a boy and a son of a woman your father loved. It was annoying that he had a mother and you did not. That he would inherit the title you could only dream of. That he was following you around like a lost puppy, pretending that you two were normal, loving siblings. You loved him but the annoyance was often stronger. And now the love was barely there.
Your brother had died in that desert. MuadâDib was not your brother.
Just like Baroness Harkonnen was not his sister.
âMay thy knife chip and shatter,â Feyd smirked at Paul as he repeated the Harkonnen gesture and the duel began.
The whole room went completely silent. The only sounds were the ones of the fight â the music of the crossing knives and occasional grunts. Amongst the Fremen women, two watched the most curiously. One of them was naturally Lady Jessica, meanwhile the other one was a young woman whose blue eyes were following Paulâs every move.
Feyd noticed her, too, as he pointed at her with a smirk.
âYour pet?â He asked Paul.
Your brother did not answer and attacked but you had your eyes glued on the Fremen woman. She would possibly cause trouble in case of Paulâs death, so you wanted to remember her face.
You did not like the way Paul seemed to fight as good as your husband. You were aware his skills had improved but nothing could prepare you for the sight of him blocking nearly every blow and successfully performing his own. The way these two skillful warriors fought reminded you more of some sort of sophisticated dance than a common fight. And if this duel was not about your future and your life, youâd love to watch it and admire it.
Princess Irulan was as scared as you were. She held your hand and you squeezed it to give her comfort.
As women you could only watch and hope for the men to spare you. In times like that, you hated to be a woman. No matter how much power and influence you were holding, in critical moments like this, you were only an observer of the grand spectacle of life.
A soft gasp left your mouth at the sight of your brother attacking Feyd with so much ferocity that your husband stumbled for a moment and when he raised his head again, you spotted fresh blood dripping from his nose all over his chin. He smirked, of course, since pain was bringing him pleasure. However, his pain was bringing no pleasure to you.
The duel progressed in a more aggressive manner. The foreplay was long gone now as two opponents were growing more and more frustrated with each other. It was getting less sophisticated and more messy. You tried to follow the movements closely but sometimes you missed half of them because of their speed.
Princess Irulanâs loud wheeze made you realise that Paulâs blade found a thin gap in Feydâs stillsuit as his blade cut deep into your husbandâs flesh right below his rib. Your eyes widened at the sight and your heart sank so deep in your chest that you forgot to breathe to the point of dizziness.
Paul had a smirk on his face when he turned around to face you as Feyd dropped his blade and stumbled behind him. You stood there, petrified as the reality around you seemed to slow down.
You felt more like an animal than a human being at that moment â your head was empty, you were driven by nothing but instincts.
Feyd fell down to his knees as Paul began walking towards you, limping slightly. Your free hand covered your womb as your other hand squeezed Irulanâs hand so tight you nearly crashed it. You tried to keep your eyes on Paul, you wanted to observe his moves to make sure youâd be able to somehow defend yourself. But you couldnât. You kept staring at your husband and you noticed his struggle to get the blade out of his body. You couldnât understand why he was trying to do that since a skilled and experienced fighter like him had known perfectly well it was never a good idea.
On shaky legs but with all the force, bleeding from his fresh wound, Feyd rose up and attacked Paul yet again, accompanied by Lady Jessicaâs scream that made you shiver.
Your brother turned around, surprised to see Feyd back on his feet again â desperate act of a wounded, dying animal, ready to sacrifice everything to win the final battle. Feyd pushed the blade in between the gaps of Paulâs stillsuit and twisted the knife with a psychotic smile before they both fell to the ground.
After a short while of silence with the waves of shock going through your body, you screamed and ran up to Feyd. Lady Jessica stood up and ran up to her son. Everyone watched with widened eyes the two feral women kneeling down arm to arm, holding the wounded men in their arms.
Feyd chuckled at the sight of you and coughed up as you put your hands on his wound. The Harkonnen blood was thicker, which was making bleeding out to death a more difficult process but you could see his eyes getting hazy anyway.
You felt the tears streaming down your face as you caressed his cheek and he raised his hand weakly to put it on your womb.
âNo!â Lady Jessicaâs scream was animalistic. You turned your head around and saw her face winced in so much pain and anger that she no longer seemed human. You took a short glance down and noticed that life had completely left your brotherâs body by now. It stinged your heart, too, but you knew that it meant only one thing â Feyd had won. You were The Duchess Atreides now. âHeâs dead!â Lady Jessica yelled at you.
You were a mother now, too. You couldnât imagine the depth of her pain and loss. Her only son â dead in her arms. Your brother.
Her hand reached out for the blade stuck in Paulâs guts. The same blade that had wounded your husband before. Now she wanted to slay Feyd with it to make sure he would die, too.
âMother,â your son warned you and driven by a pure instinct you swiftly grabbed the short knife attached to the armour piece on your hip beneath all the folds of your dress. Without thinking you stabbed her before she was able to take the blade out of her sonâs dead body.
Lady Jessicaâs blue eyes widened as she looked deep into yours and you sobbed.
âForgive me,â you whispered, your hand shaking as you had just committed your very first direct murder.
You would never find out all the things you wanted to ask her. Sometimes even the biggest questions remained unanswered. Perhaps it was for the best.
And Lady Jessica had to understand that what you had done was caused by your need to protect your family. She had been one of those people sending you to the Harkonnens. She couldnât be surprised now to see you had become one of them. You had to protect them.
Her body fell down on top of Paulâs and all the Fremen started to look around uncomfortably. You did not care, you focused on your husband again. His eyelids were getting heavy but he was still smiling.
âCan somebody help?!â You asked, looking around. âPlease,â you begged Gurney.
âStilgar,â he looked at one of the Fremen who looked like he was important and most likely the new leader after MuadâDibâs death. âBring here those servants we are holding captive,â he told him.
The man called Stilgar nodded unsurely and two Fremen guards left the room in a hurry.
âPlease, donât die,â you whispered to Feyd, cradling his head and putting it on your lap delicately. âPlease, donât leave me now.â
âIâve made you proud, my Lady?â He asked in a weak whisper.
âOh, youâve made me the proudest,â you smiled through the tears. âBut you canât leave us now⊠None of this matters without you, my darling,â you wiped the blood off of his chin with your sleeve but it only smeared some more. âI love you, pleaseâŠâ
You expected to give up completely one day and finally confess your feelings but you had never expected it would be on the day of his death.
Feyd chuckled as his hand weakly slid down your womb as he no longer had any strength to keep it there.Â
âI love you, too, pet,â his whisper was inaudible but you heard him right and sobbed some more, watching his eyes close.
âNo! No, no, noâŠâ You lowered yourself down and pressed your forehead to his, covering his face with your tears.
The doors opened and the Harkonnen medic entered the room in a hurry, accompanied by a few spared servants with Astra and Cara among them. Your poor girls were terrified and trembling. It was a great relief to see them but in a moment like this, you couldnât care much about anything but your husband.
What was the point of defeating Paul? What was the point of anything without Feyd by your side?
The medic hurried to your side and knelt down next to Feydâs body. He examined it quickly and furrowed his brows.
âMy Lady, heâs still alive,â he informed you and you looked up at him.
âWh-what?â
âThe body functions are still there, Baroness. He lost consciousness due to the blood loss but maybe⊠Maybe I can still save The Baronâs life,â he swallowed thickly.
âWhat are you waiting for then?!â You yelled at him and he nodded, beckoning over a few male servants to help him carry Feydâs body to the medical wing of the palace.
You stood up clumsily and watched them walk out. You wanted to follow them and forget about anything else but you were aware that at a moment like this you could not leave any case unfinished.
You faced The Emperor. He looked as if he was about to have a heart attack, his face paler than usual and his eyes widened. His shaking hand was holding Irulanâs one.
âI, Duchess (Y/N) of The House Atreides, Baroness of The House Harkonnen, pledge my allegiance to The Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV,â you kneeled down and bowed your head.
His time would come, too, of that you were sure. But not now. Not yet.
âMay your service be accepted, Duchess Atreides, Baroness Harkonnen,â he nodded at you and stood up once again.
You turned around at the Fremen, looking at the man named Stilgar who had been watching you very closely ever since Paulâs death.
âYou may attack us but all the ships above us with the galactic leaders will destroy your homeworld in revenge,â you informed him. âOr you might cooperate with me. I will give you what my father has never given you and what he would never give you,â you added. âI shall join my husband now but I want you to stay here and negotiate with you.â
Stilgar looked around to see the faces of his fellow Fremen brothers and sisters. You knew that the reason they had not yet attacked you despite all your guards being slain was respect. You were the one to win the duel and it was your husband who slain their MuadâDib. You were the one to slay their Reverend Mother.
Some of the fellow Fremen were shaking their heads hesitantly, not trusting you. But some of them were nodding.
âWe can divide the planet for spice production and for Fremen to live in. We do not harvest spice in the south of Arrakis because it is inhabitable to us,â you explained. âSo if we give the south to you, we will not lose any production. And you will have your own territory to live in. I am going to help you to turn the south of Arrakis into a more friendly place as much as possible. The Harkonnen science is well developed, I am sure they will find a way to make trees grow again there. And I offer you to have a representative during the most important councils about Arrakisâ fate in the future. That would be you, I assume?â You tried to explain calmly. âI do not want you as enemies. Arrakis is big and spacious enough for all of us.â
The long silence occurred.
âWhat if I was wrong? What if she is Lisan Al Gaib?â Stilgar asked and some of the Fremen rolled their eyes angrily.
âI am no Lisan Al Gaib,â you told him, âI am Duchess Atreides, Baroness Harkonnen. That is how you shall address me.â
âThe leaders of The Great Houses are getting impatient,â one of the Fremen said as he was monitoring the tracking device in his hand.
âTell them to come down,â you looked at him. âThey shall witness our new deal.â
Hesitantly, Stilgar nodded at the man.
âNow, do excuse me, I should go to my husband,â you nodded your head at him and then at The Emperor.
You were about to walk out, when Gurney spoke up.
âWhat about Paulâs body? Lady Jessicaâs?â
âDo you know where my fatherâs remains are?â You asked him.
âI have my assumptions,â he answered. There was no kindness nor love in his eyes anymore when he was looking at you. There was hurt, betrayal and anger. None of it mattered to you anymore.
âFind it then and send all of them back to Caladan. Lay them down next to my mother,â you told him. âI do not want Arrakis to be known for being a place where the Atreides rot.â
âMy Lady,â he nodded.
With your eyes you found the Fremen woman who most likely had been Paulâs lover. She was now kneeling to his body and stroking his cheeks.
âYou,â you addressed her as she looked up angrily. She could kill you with her eyes only if she could. âWhat is your name?â
âChani,â she answered proudly.
âWas MuadâDib your lover?â
She hesitated before answering.
âYes.â
âChange of plans, then,â you looked at Gurney. âLady Jessica and my father shall go back to Caladan. Let this woman bury MuadâDib as she wishes.â
âMy Lady,â he bowed.
âLet it be known that Baroness Harkonnen can get a little sentimental,â you smirked at Chani before walking out of the room.
Your body was so full of adrenaline that you felt as if you were in a dream.
Feyd was unconscious for three days now and most of them you were spending in the medical wing, holding his hand. In the meantime you were working on a deal with Stilgar. The Emperor had left Arrakis as soon as possible but not without thanking you for your loyalty and support that he had promised not to forget.
With fake kindness you assured him of your sincerity as if you hadnât been already planning how to get rid of him next. Seeing his weakness and how easily your brother would take his title, if not stopped by your husband, made your own hunger for power even greater.
The leaders of The Great Houses hadnât stayed for long but they borrowed you servants and guards for until your own would come from Giedi Prime, sent by Count Glossu Rabban.
So much was happening and so many things there were to process but your mind was in a haze. All you could truly focus on was Feyd. At first you wanted to give up completely but it was your son who decided to motivate you.
âYou have to be strong now, mother. Do it for me,â he had pleaded.
And he had been right. You had to make all the arrangements to ensure the position of the House Harkonnen for your heir.Â
Holding Feydâs cold hand and caressing his fingers, you watched his body functions on the monitor. He looked so peaceful when he was asleep. Some part of you was glad he was getting all this rest. You just hoped he would eventually be alright.
Suddenly, you felt his cold slim fingers move slightly. You looked at his face and watched his eyelids flutter before opening slowly. He looked around, confused.
âPet?â He only asked at the sight of you, confused, as you smiled widely and sobbed a few happy tears.
âOh, Feyd!â You leaned in to place a soft kiss upon his lips. âOh, my darlingâŠâ
âShouldnât I be dead now?â
âNot on my watch,â you caressed his cheeks. âYouâve been knocked out for three days, my Baron,â you told him. âLet me call a medic to examine you.â
You stood up and informed the guard behind the doors that Baron Harkonnen was awake and he nodded before walking away to call for the medic.
While you waited for him, you told Feyd about everything that had been happening for the past three days. He was only watching you closely and nodding his head.
âMy uncle was right. Youâre better suited to be The Baroness than I am to be The Baron,â he told you eventually.
âDonât say that! Youâd do the same,â you assured him, squeezing his hand.
âNo, I would not. I would slay all the Fremen once Iâd have an army here.â
âYou would not because I would advise you otherwise,â you chuckled and then you took a deep breath in. âI canât wait to go back home.â
âHome?â He furrowed his brows.
âGiedi Prime,â you answered like it was obvious. âI want our son to be born there.â
âWe need to find someone worthy of being the Governor of Arrakis first. Someone loyal and not a complete idiot like my brother,â Feyd reminded you.
âIâve already found one and sent him a letter,â you admitted, a little anxious about his reaction.
âWho?â
âLord Kirill, the one who married one of my former maids. She bore him a son not so long ago. He will be loyal and Iâve read about his successful military campaigns in one of the books,â you answered.
âLord Kirill is not a bad choice,â Feyd nodded. âWe can allow him to try.â
âIâve told that man, Stilgar, that he can write to me any time if anything happens. For some reason he seems to respect me greatly. Probably because I have slain their Reverend Mother,â you laughed nervously.
âAnd how do you feel about it?â Feyd asked, squinting his eyes at you as he slowly sat up on the bed.
You didnât answer at first. Your smile dropped and you stared in the distance.
âI remember how your uncle told me that you had killed your mother. I could not understand it back then. It seemed to be the worst thing a person can do,â you admitted. âBut Iâve realised that I have killed my mother twice. I killed my biological mother by being born and I killed Lady Jessica who has raised me. And guess what⊠The sun still rises in the morning. My blood still flows. As if nothing terrible happened at all. Strange,â you looked at him again.
âWith time you just donât feel anything anymore,â he assured you.
âShe was with a child, the medic told me. Lady Jessica was as pregnant as I am. With a daughter. My sister,â you whispered.
âSo, you slaughtered them both,â Feyd smirked. Of course it brought him some sadistic satisfaction.
âI have slaughtered the last member of The Atreides family except for me,â you told him. âThis House dies with me so the House Harkonnen can thrive. This is the greatest sacrifice and I only hope it is going to pay off.â
âWhat do you mean?â He tilted his head.
âYou shall give my son The Harkonnen Empire,â you stated but before he could answer, the medic entered the room with a smile.
âIâm so glad to see you awake, my Baron,â he approached your husband. âYou must be starving, Iâve told the cooks to prepare your favourite steak.â
Feyd nodded at him.
âMy Lady, your servant girls would like to see you,â the medic told you and you stood up.
âFrom now on, you shall address Astra and Cara as my maids,â you told him.
The title would not change much about their position but at least it was giving them some dignity. The medicâs eyes widened a little but he nodded.
âI will see you soon,â you leaned in to place a kiss upon Feydâs forehead before walking out and going to your bedroom.
Astra and Cara were standing by the window, waiting for your arrival. When you entered the chamber, they both approached you excitedly.
âIs that true that the Baron is awake now, my Lady?â Astra asked.
âYes, my darling, it is,â you nodded.
âOh, what a relief!â Cara sighed.
They were terrified of Feyd but they knew that if he died, no one would allow you to be Baroness Harkonnen on your own. The Harkonnen lords would most likely start an uprising. No one would accept a woman in charge â especially an off-world woman. They would rather crown Count Glossu Rabban their next Baron and youâd be an outcast alongside your son. Without any family to go to. Meanwhile, your servants â now maids â would either be killed or enslaved again.
But that would not happen â not at all. And it was hard to believe that you really had survived and found a new home, new family, new purpose. Perhaps you fitted even better with them than you had ever had with The Atreides on Caladan. Perhaps it was making it easier to cope when you believed that.
Bittersweet was the taste of your victory. You still remembered your brotherâs dead body laying on the floor. You remembered Lady Jessicaâs widened eyes right after you stabbed her. They would haunt you forever but you knew they were inevitable to happen if you wanted your happy ending and your survival.
And you wanted them more than anything.
Coming back to Giedi Prime was making you a bit anxious. You werenât sure what peopleâs reactions would be to Feyd and you being the new Baron and Baroness Harkonnen. Rabban was assuring you that the citizens were rather excited but you were mostly worried about the noble lords. Only the most stupid ones believed in the late Baronâs death being caused by MuadâDib. But the stupid ones didnât matter.
The official ceremony of you and your husband becoming the Baron and Baroness was planned for the day after your arrival. Surprisingly, Rabban who had been responsible for making arrangements, had done a splendid job. The whole Giedi Prime was decorated already when you looked at the city from the windows of your ship. He was doing his best to stay in Feydâs favour.
âDo you wish to keep your old bedrooms, my Lord, my Lady?â One of the servants asked once you entered the Giedi Primeâs fortress. âWe can prepare the late Baronâs chambers for you.â
âIs that the room with the bathtub?â You asked and Feyd nodded at you with a hint of disgust in his eyes. âWe wish to keep our old ones, thank you,â you informed the servant. âBut I do want to change some decor,â you added. âSome other time, though, now Iâm exhausted,â you dismissed the bowing man.
âYou still say thank you to the servants, even now when youâre The Baroness,â Feyd smirked at you as you two began walking down the corridor to reach the staircase.
It was a surprising feeling but you sighed out of relief as you passed all the huge black doors on your way. It truly felt like home.
âThat is how I was raised. Itâs not easy to change what we were taught as children,â you reminded him and he nodded.
Feyd walked you to your shared bedrooms since you could barely walk in your current state. You were about to give birth any day now and you noticed he didnât like leaving you alone for long when you were in that state. He waited for Astra and Cara to join you before he eventually left to deal with some official duties as The Baron.
Your maids brought a celebration dress with them to show you and make the final fittings. It was so huge that it filled half of the bedroom space. Black and feathered with enough volume to hide your pregnancy.
âHow do you feel, Baroness?â Astra asked as she fixed one of the feathers on the dressâ fabric and you were looking at yourself in the mirror.
âLike an Empress already,â you smirked to yourself.
Cara and Astra looked at each other significantly but they chose not to comment.
âLike an Empress of death,â you added. âI imagine The Harkonnen Empire to be a dark, cold and scary place. I can see snakes slithering down the black marble floors, following me wherever I go, willing to attack any enemy of mine,â you dreamt out loud.
In one of the Harkonnen books you had read about such creatures â genetically modified to be loyal pets to their owners and deadly attacking their enemies. You had been waiting to become The Baroness to ask the engineers for pets like these, too.
The celebration was supposed to start in the late afternoon but you were on your feet since early morning, dealing with official papers to sign and to get familiar with. There were off-world guests to greet â Princess Irulan amongst them, representing House Corrino and her father. He was still grateful for what you had done on Arrakis in a nearly exaggerated way. Perhaps he knew about your bloodthirsty ambitions blooming within you and he hoped to become your friend.
The Emperor himself being desperate for you to like him because of the power you were holding now. That was delicious in a way, you had to admit.
He was not the only one. The word had spread about what had happened on Arrakis. Feyd was known now as one of the greatest warriors in the galaxy who would sacrifice everything for The House Harkonnen. And you were known for being cunning, dignified and unhinged in a way you were able to murder a Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother who had been your family member. The new Baron and Baroness Harkonnen were quickly becoming characters of scary stories people would tell their misbehaving children. Cold and bloodthirsty; unstoppable and inseparable force.
You couldnât tell what moment of the ceremony was your favourite â when everyone was looking at you walking slowly and gasping at your dress or when the Harkonnen army saluted you and swore to shed blood for you, making you realise what kind of massive army you were truly commanding now. Perhaps it was the moment of making vows or putting on the Harkonnen insignia. Or maybe an unscripted, passionate and hungry kiss that Feyd gave you in front of everybody once you were announced officially The Baron and Baroness of The House Harkonnen. That kiss was a promise of more. He would give you so much more than this. And you would be by his side every step of the way.
You were his anchor and he was your blade. The whole galaxy knew that now.
The Giedi Prime was celebrating but you chose to go back to your chambers quite early. You were not pleased with missing the party but you were exhausted after a whole day of walking and standing. Astra and Cara helped you to change into your nightgown and they were in the process of brushing your hair softly when you felt a sharp pain in your abdomen.
âMy Lady?â Cara asked, worryingly.
âItâs fine, just a contraction,â you smiled at her. They had been occasionally happening for a few days now.
âAre you sure, Baroness?â Astra looked at your face in the reflection of the mirror.
âAre we sure?â You asked your son in your head.
âItâs time, mother,â the familiar voice answered.
Your eyes widened as another contraction came and you grabbed the edge of your vanity table. The girls looked at each other, scared.
âCall for the medic and inform The Baron,â you told them and they nodded their heads.
Astra stayed with you while Cara recruited one of the guards in front of your doors to go with her and find Feyd and the medic. With Astraâs help you sat on the edge of your bed and squeezed her hand.
âI might die, Astra,â you told her and she shook her head, terrified. âListen to me, my mother died giving birth and I am aware this might happen to me as well.â
âMy Lady, no⊠I refuse toâŠâ She started with a trembling voice.
âAstra, listen to me, itâs important,â you drawled through your teeth gritted out of pain. She closed her lips and looked at you with her big Harkonnen eyes. âIf I die tonight, I want you and Cara to take care of my son, do you hear me?â
She nodded as tears started to form in the corner of her eyes.
âThe medic has been informed. He knows about my wish and he told me you and Cara have been studying infant care intensely. Feyd knows he cannot hurt you nor Cara. You will be safe, do not worry about that. I ensured that,â you assured her.
âTh-thank you, my LadyâŠâ Astra stuttered out.
âIn return, I ask you to take care of my son. And to keep him away from the Bene Gesserit scheming. Please,â you pleaded.
âI promise. In Caraâs name, too,â Astra put her free hand on her heart and you broke a smile at her.
She was barely sixteen and you were placing such great responsibility upon her shoulders. You couldnât deal with it differently, though. It was a cruel world you lived in and much worse things were being forced upon sixteen years old girls anyway.
You feared death. Especially now when you were about to give birth to your son and begin your reign. You had things to look for and your child might had not been conceived out of love but it was still wanted by you. You did not feel trapped in a loveless marriage like your mother had been. You actually wanted to give Feyd-Rautha a son. Many sons and many daughters; you wanted to be known for giving House Harkonnen many successful heirs. You wanted to be an important figure in their history books one day.
But as much as you feared death, you also knew that it was also a place where your mother was waiting for you, your father, your brother, Lady Jessica and your unborn sister. You liked to think that even now theyâd still greet you with open arms. And if not, youâd just wait for Feyd patiently.
Your depressing stream of thought was interrupted by the black doors opening rapidly without knocking. It was the medic accompanied by Cara and Feyd. You had never seen your husband stressed before. Usually so stoic, he was on the verge of a breakdown.
âPrepare the bed for The Baroness,â the medic ordered Astra and Cara helped her with the duvets and towels.
Feyd helped you to stand up and he cupped your face in his cold and shivering hands.
âHow do you feel?â He asked.
âHow do you think I feel?â You rolled your eyes and hissed out of pain as another contraction hit you. âLike shit.â
âYou can do it, my pet. Youâre the strongest woman I know,â he assured you and helped you to get in bed. The medic was preparing some injections already that were supposed to make the process go smoother and easier.
âOur technology allows the whole childbirth to be nearly painless,â he told you with a smile. âOf course only the richest can afford such shots.â
âRemember what Iâve told you before,â Feyd barked at him. He was standing beside your bed and squeezing your hand in his. Astra and Cara were standing on the other side with a bowl full of cold water and a towel to wipe your forehead when needed.
The medic nodded and you furrowed your brow. He injected the first shot and you winced, squeezing Feydâs hand tighter.
âWhat is that arrangement between you two?â You asked but they did not answer. âI have a right to know if it is about me or my child!â You demanded.
The medic looked at your husband and after a short moment of hesitation, Feyd nodded at him.
âThe Baron has made me promise to⊠To ensure you live, my Lady. Even if it means your son will not,â he explained.
âYouâd sacrifice your heir?â Your eyes widened when you looked up at your husband. He crouched down and leaned in to kiss your temple and to whisper in your ear so the rest would not hear him properly.
âWe can produce more heirs. And if we canât, any whore can give me a son. But no one would ever replace you, my Baroness,â he told you.
âYou canât let our son die⊠NoâŠâ You nearly cried. âYou donât understand, Feyd. These past few weeks I have been talking to him every day. I already have a bond with him. And he saved your life on Arrakis⊠If someone has to die tonight, itâs going to be me,â you tried to convince him to change his mind but he only clenched his jaw and gave you an angry look before standing up again.
âSo far, the baby is placed properly,â the medic assured you. âI do not think anyone is going to die tonight.â
The sunlight was already creeping in through the narrow windows of your bedroom. Exhausted, squeezing your husbandâs hand, you finally made the final push. If the medic claimed that thanks to his injections the process had been nearly painless, you did not want to know what it would be like without the said injections.
But it was finally over and the loud cry of a newborn baby filled the whole room as you sighed with relief.
âOh, heâs a big boy, my Lord, my Lady,â the medic smiled at you as he cradled the baby in his arms. âStrong and healthy,â he assured you and handed your son to Cara. Astra wiped your face with a towel and brushed the hair out of your face gently and you reached out weakly to hold your child. You were too exhausted to process the thought of having a son but when he was finally placed in your arms and stopped crying at the sight of you, you burst out in happy tears.
The boy had your eyes and soft, fluffy, thin baby hairs on his head. His skin colour was much paler than yours but not as white as his fathers.
âHe looks more like me,â you thought out loud as Feyd chuckled, staring at the boy in your arms with his chin resting on your shoulder.
âHis hair might start falling out once heâs getting older,â the medic informed you.
âOh, it doesnât matter,â you chuckled through your tears. âIâm still going to love him even when heâs bald.â
âMy Lord, shall we inform the people of the birth of the na-baron?â The medic asked your husband.
âImmediately,â Feyd answered. You spotted pride and excitement in his voice even though he was trying to hide it.
âDo you have a name, my Lady?â The medic laid his eyes on you.
âI want to bring back the old Harkonnen tradition,â you stated. âThe one about giving your first born son the name of the Wedding Games winner from his parentsâ wedding,â you brought up the fun fact you had read in one of the books from the Harkonnen library. âBut I would also like him to be named after his father just like my husband bears his grandfatherâs name,â you added. âWhat about Maxim-Feyd Harkonnen?â You looked up at your husband, trying to read the reaction from his face.
âYou can name him whatever you wish as long as it is not Vladimir,â he only said.
âNa-Baron Maxim-Feyd Harkonnen that is,â you nodded at the medic and he left your bedroom to announce the birth of the new heir.
âGirls, can you leave us alone for a moment?â You asked your maids and they bowed down before walking out quietly as well.
Once you were left alone in the room with your husband and your son, you moved slightly to the side, wincing out of pain.
âCome, join us?â You looked at Feyd and he nodded, hesitantly, before sitting up on the bed next to you. He put his arm around you and his eyes were not leaving your son even for a moment. âWhat do you think? Now, without anyone to witness?â You teased, knowing perfectly well there were things Feyd would never say or do with any kind of audience.
âI think heâs⊠beautiful,â he admitted and raised his finger to caress the boyâs cheek. âAnd Iâm glad he was born in a world without my uncle in it.â
âAnd thatâs because of you, my darling. You protected him,â you reminded. âLike you always will, yes?â
âHe is my heir. Everything I do, I do for him. My legacy is for him to inherit,â Feyd answered and placed a kiss on your cheek.
You stayed like that for a while, in complete silence, looking at Maxim who was staring back at you with his wide eyes.
âDo you hear me?â You tried but there was no answer. However, the baby kicked his feet slightly when you spoke to him with your mind.
âYouâre going to be a strong warrior, my darling. The most fearsome in the galaxy,â you promised him in a whisper. âThe greatest pride of the House Harkonnen. Mummy will make sure of that.â
You heard the sound of fireworks going off in the distance, black splashes of ink-like gas scattered all over the morning sky. Giedi Prime had already found out about the birth of your son.
âThey will want to see him,â you turned your head around to look at Feyd.
âThey can wait,â he told you. âYou rest.â
âNo, I can do it. I want to show them,â you assured him and pecked his lips gently. âTell Astra and Cara to come here and prepare me.â
He nodded and leaned in to place a kiss upon his sonâs forehead before leaving the bedroom to find your maids. You thought youâd feed Maxim first but he was already falling asleep in your arms, so when your girls entered the chambers, you handed Astra your child delicately and she took him to the bathroom to bathe him. You needed a bath as well and Cara helped you with it, holding your hand as you were moving slowly on shaky legs.
Your dress was black and very simple â humble even. After all, you were not supposed to be the main attraction on that day. Your hair was done up and the only jewellery you were wearing was the rings of your houses. Maxim was put in traditional black clothes for the newborn Harkonnen babies and you waited for the noon, half asleep on your armchair, feeding your baby with the help of Astra and Cara. Your dress was pulled down but ready to zip back up any given moment.
Feyd entered the room but he unusually announced his arrival with a soft knock upon your doors. He was wearing his black leather uniform and froze at the sight of you feeding his son.
âSince when do you knock?â You looked up at him with a soft smile.
âI didnât want to startle the baby,â he told you. âYouâre feeding the child yourself?â He was visibly surprised.
âI will not let any Harkonnen woman feed my child. There is enough poison in him already,â you answered. âAnd it is good for creating a bond between the mother and her child anyway.â
âHow long does he need? The people have already gathered and they want to see him,â Feyd approached you.
âItâs not noon yet.â
âTheyâre impatient, my Baroness,â he smirked and looked down at his child sucking on your breast. Maxim looked up at him and reached his tiny hand up.
You sighed at the sight of Feyd looking completely paralyzed. You moved one of your hands gently to grab your husbandâs pointing finger and put it in your sonâs hand. Maxim squeezed it tightly and you chuckled.
âHeâs strong already,â Feyd noticed.
âOf course he is, heâs your son,â you nodded. âBut itâs enough now, my boy, youâll get more later, I promise,â you nodded at Cara. She took the child from you delicately as Astra wiped your breast and helped you to put the upper part of the dress back on. Maxim whined for a while but Cara successfully shushed him by carrying him in her arms.
Feyd helped you to stand up and he led you out of the bedroom with Astra and Cara following you closely. You approached the big glass doors leading to the balcony of the fortress. You could already hear the cheers of the gathered masses waiting to see the heir.
You took a deep breath in as Cara handed you Maxim and Feyd nodded at the guards to open the doors. Slowly and carefully you walked out into the black-and-white world. Thousands of nearly identical pale faces were waiting impatiently to see you and when you finally graced them with your smile and a wave of your hand, they cheered loudly, causing Maxim to startle and cry. The sound of his crying caused the crowd to go even wilder, though.
You handed your son to Feyd and he raised his arms to show off the crying boy to the cheering and saluting population of Giedi Prime. He held him up in the air for a while and then he carefully gave him back to you and joined your lips together in a hungry, passionate kiss. He cupped your face to hold it in place as he devoured you. All the cheers and your babyâs crying were suddenly nothing but a muffled sound. All that mattered was you and Feyd-Rautha, showing his loyalty and gratitude to his Baroness.
Scared and naive Princess Atreides who had come to Giedi Prime a year earlier, she hadnât known how much she could endure and survive. How much she had been capable of. She couldnât have known that this scary place was indeed her home and that terrifying man was the love of her life.
Perhaps for the first time in your life you felt sincerely and thoroughly respected and appreciated. You had a purpose and you had a hunger for more.
And although no one else could hear him in that noise, it still surprised you what your husband dared to say to you in public.
âI love you,â he breathed out after breaking the kiss, still holding your face steadily in his hands and staring deep into your eyes. âI will give you the world.â
You nodded at him with a soft smile.
âI love you, too, my Baron.â
AUTHORâS NOTE 2.0 â Hi, it's me again! đđ» I want to explain a few choices that I didn't want to mention about before the chapter because it would spoil the events. At first, Reader's baby was supposed to be just a regular baby â strong warrior of course etc., but nothing extremely special. Some of you were calling him jokingly an antichrist, though and it gave me an idea. I decided that giving him special abilities would actually make it possible for Feyd-Rautha to win the duel with Paul. Otherwise, Paul would be able to kill him because he'd be able to foresee Feyd's moves like it happened in the movie. So, the whole theory that the baby is an antichrist was actually very helpful and made the plot of Feyd killing Paul more possible. đ Also, I decided to rewrite the scenes from the movie because whenever I am writing fics that happen in the movie scenes, the worst part is to actually describe the events on the screen and writing down everything actors are saying etc. I've always hated doing that so I decided to just be inspired by the events of the movie but go with my own version, especially that the presence of Paul's sister would obviously change the dynamic anyway. I know that some of you hoped Paul would live and have some sort of a deal with Feyd and his wife. I also liked the idea of arranging the marriage between Alia and their son. But as I said before â I decided to go with my original plan for this story. I hope I am forgiven. đ

Hi everyone! This is Claire. I am writing to let you all know that we did it. We saved Bailey and Tiger Fluff, and we all live together in an apartment in Illinois, my home state. We really, really did it!!!
You can read our thanks, thoughts, and more under the read more :0)
(note: Oliver also goes by Bailey! She has two names.)
There are many important people on this journey that we would like to specifically thank.
First, all of our friends (especially Peregrine, Sophie, and Jackson) who were there on the day Bailey was evicted, who listened to me and helped me figure out what to do when I felt more lost than Iâve ever been. Without them we wouldnât have been able to act so quickly and efficiently. Because of them, we were able to formulate a plan.
Speaking of Jackson, he and his partner Cherri need to be thanked once again. Jackson drove all the way from his home, Baileyâs motel, and back to get both her and Tiger to a place to stay while we figured out what to do next. They provided a warm, quiet, and safe place for both of them in a time when something like that was so far away. For the first time in a long time, I knew that Bailey was truly somewhere safe. For that, we will be forever grateful.
While we do not have their names, we would like to thank the staff of the airport and airline who helped make this journey objectively possible. They also made Tiger into a little celebrity on the flight, and everyone, including the pilot, went to greet her and congratulate her for being so brave. She really is the bravest little kitty we know.
Next are my very close friends Elle and Callan, who invited Bailey and Tiger to stay at their house not far from mine while we secured a place of our own. They, like Jackson and Cherri, gave both of them the space to simply be. I was able to visit a couple of times, and being with my favorite people made an extremely difficult time so much better. It made me think âthis feeling is what we are fighting forâ.
Finally, weâd like to thank you.
To all of you who read and shared our story, you helped us to feel seen and heard and not alone. Reading words of support in the comments, quote retweets, and tumblr tags truly made me feel like we could do this with everyone cheering us on.
To everyone who donated, your generosity this financially possible. As of writing, we received $19,381 from the GoFundMe. We are now able to use the rest of funds that have been tucked away in savings for rent, food, and bills. I cannot overstate how grateful we both are. What you did for us will never leave our hearts.
âŠ
While Bailey and Fluffy were at Elle and Callanâs, we found an apartment. It was small, but perfect. We toured. We applied. And we got it.
And on December 9th, 2023, we moved in and started living together! Our goal, our dream, our driving force for so long was achieved. After three years of long distance, we finally made it.
Our home is small, and has some quirks as all homes do, but itâs ours. The love of my life, the best little cat in the word, and I are all together. We are safe, warm, happy, and loved. The future we fought so hard for us now the present. Forgive me for being long-winded. I just have so much to say about all of this! Sometimes I still canât believe that we actually did it. But we did, we really did!!!
Iâm going to keep the GoFundMe up for a little bit, but once things settle more I will close donations.
Thank you!!!!!!!!! đ§žđ
____
Hey everyone Bailey here, I cannot overstate just how grateful I am to every single one of you and how thankful I am that this journey has been able to come into fruition. It was very scary being in that motel not having a plan or knowing what I was gonna do next while everything was crumbling around me. If it wasn't for Claire and our incredibly kind and caring friends I don't know what I'd do. They helped me press on and get through this with Fluff and we finally did.
Finally we're in a place that brings nothing but peace and comfort, my anxiety has dropped and I'm doing things I've never thought possible and building up strengths I never knew I had, I feel whole in a way that I've never felt before and I'm just, happy.
I am so grateful to have Claire, for years she's been so supportive and comforting and has brought this dream we've had into reality and every day I am so thankful to have her, she is the love of my life and my best friend. The life that her, myself and Fluff now share will forever be together and we can finally begin living. đđ
Thank you everyone, thank you to our friends who let Fluff and I into their lives to be able to be safe while we get our bearings, thank you to everyone who said such kind and wonderfully compassionate words, cheering us on as we go, every day I was looking at the community post I made on YT and it was just filled with people being so supportive, and thank you everyone who donated and got us into where we are. We could not have done it without all of you. đ â€ïž đ â€ïž

PILE 1
General Things
Could be very early in the relationship⊠during the âget to know youâ stages. Thereâs a lot of attraction and tension between you and this person. I think this could be someone you either meet through a career or online. Itâs fast paced but intense, a quick back and forth. But itâs good because itâs an exchange where you both are on the same level or matching energies. Itâs welcomed, but it feels very interrogative, like âdoes this person fit the bill of what Iâm looking for đâ rather than a chill get to know you. It feels like a new environment too, as in both of you are out doing something new together for the first time. It doesnât seem like thereâs any anxiety around the questioning, just kind of throwing every and anything at the wall to see if it sticks. Scorpio or Gemini could be important placements for you or them.
Setting The Scene
When it comes to the location of the kiss it could be a festival of some kind, Iâm get a fair, specifically a renaissance fair for someone, or something with that vibe for a few of you. It could also be an event around water and/or where there will be live entertainment. I think itâs definitely picked strategically by whoever plans this outing⊠I think maybe more so your person. I also feel like it could be their old stomping grounds as well or something being hosted by someone they know. Thereâs an opportunity to kind of learn from others during this event/setting also.
The Kiss In General
I think this kiss is going to be awakening or energizing. One that gives you a surge of energy. I also heard that you might be trying to best them at something too. It might be outside of one your comfort zones and there could be a lot of anxiety surrounding the kiss on someoneâs part. If not anxiety, hearts racing. During a dance as well could be another likely scenario. One where itâs like "Okay, weâre dancing... I feel like a fool, Oh! youâre kissing me!"... Except the rest of the thoughts just fizzle out because you melt into it. People around you might cheer you guys on.
If you'd like to see the extended version of this reading which covers you & your person's feelings during the kiss as well as the 'aftermath' you can check it out on my Patreon here. Regardless, thank you for reading and take care! đ
PILE 2
General Things
The cards are giving me fairytale-esque vibes... a dream come true. This could happen when youâre traveling, finding home or experiencing something life changing. This could happen at a time where youâre on a journey to finding yourself/ finding your way and Iâm getting that your person is intent on wanting to show you they can be a part of that world. I think this person is hard to ignore, and honestly it could be hard to ignore whatever is going on between you two. There could be something about their eyes⊠maybe you avoid eye contact because itâs so intense and feels like youâre intruding? I think your person lights up your world. However, they could kind of know themselves and have all their 'colours' while youâre now finding yours. Thereâs something intimidating here about them.... very much you trying to convince yourself you two canât be together. Iâm also hearing âYouâre my North Starâ.
It could happen during a place that represents transition, in the location youâre leaving or at one of your homes (most likely yours). Itâs like they want to offer you home and youâre resisting. Youâre denying yourself entrance into the castle they have to offer. I think your head and heart arenât aligning and in all honesty your person is tired of it and just at a point where they are begging you to let yourself be happy.
Setting The Scene
I feel like this is a nice setting. More lavish for some than others . It could be in the evening or at night. It should be a date? I donât think you want it to be but it is⊠I mean I think you know it is but you're at a point where you're beside yourself pushing this person away mentally and throwing up walls. You guys could go to a show or some kind of enchanting exhibit too.
The Kiss In General
This could definitely be at night. I think the setting really depends on your interest. So it could be a concert, something related to music⊠but somewhere someone has the chance to get rowdy. Even a wedding or something where itâs nice but someone can likely get plastered and no one would really be surprised.
Okay back to the general kiss. I feel like it's a battle in a way. Itâs impulsive. Emotions are running high. Itâs about potential and fighting for whatâs 'right'... Trying to wake you up. A climatic battle of trying to get out of your head so you can see whatâs in front of you and just not what youâre dreaming of... what you think the cards (?) are telling you. I think this may be if you're constantly consuming tarot or other forms of divination and living your life by it.
If you'd like to see the extended version of this reading which covers you & your person's feelings during the kiss as well as the 'aftermath' you can check it out on my Patreon here. Regardless, thank you for reading and take care! đ
PILE 3
General Things
You could be a little bit disinterested or distracted when you have your first kiss with your person. I think it might take you a minute or two before it registers in your head that you too kissed. It could be a kiss to calm you⊠like youâre brain is going a mile a minute and generally not being grounded.
I think youâre going to be in a comfortable situation when your person kisses you/you two share your first kiss. It could be in a situation where youâre both working on something together. Or they are helping you with something youâre working on. Itâs someone who complements you beautifully. It could be a social gathering between close friends as well (but it still feels like a rather private moment, like everyone else is distracted as well and they sneak a quick kiss). If youâre a musician (or a music teacher, really anything related to that field) you could be composing or reviewing a piece and they kiss you. You could get pulled in many different directions mentally or come up with a lot of ideas but burn out on them quickly.
Setting The Scene
Oh my gosh-- Are you hungry or do you like food because all I can think of is food đ©
It could be a casino, family/friends game night, holiday dinner. Youâre focused intensely on something in front of you. Your mind is calculating, unfazed by things going on around you. Iâm also getting the caterpillar in Alice in Wonderland... a 'smoky' or and environment that gives off psychedelic vibes.
The Kiss In General
I think the kiss is attention grabbing, not just for you but someone around you may kind of cheer or whoop but you might not pay them much mind. I think your person is like this is my time with y/n and Iâm not letting their thoughts steal them away! I think they're accustomed to you being off in la la land. For some of you, you could be in the medical field or have a very scholarly profession that bleeds into your personal time. But the kiss always cuts through that. Iâm hearing âah ah ahâ as well.
If you'd like to see the extended version of this reading which covers you & your person's feelings during the kiss as well as the 'aftermath' you can check it out on my Patreon here. Regardless, thank you for reading and take care! đ

A Light To Break All Shadows
Just a fluffy little Halsin x Tav fic to keep the darkness at bay. Also on AO3, if you prefer. Thank you for reading! đ
âHow long has it been since youâve slept?â
Tav is eyeing Halsin suspiciously from the opposite end of Artâs bedside, where heâs been keeping watch over the sick man for days. At least, Halsin thinks itâs been daysâ perhaps three (or maybe four?) at the most. It is difficult to keep track in the Shadowlands.
At any rate, he cannot answer her immediately, which means his answer is insufficient.
âIf you have to think about it,â Tav continues, âItâs been too long.â
She has a point.
He is exhausted, as they all are, but cannot bring himself to rest. They are so closeâ he is so closeâ to finding the child that will save them, to ending the hundred-year darkness, to restoring light and balance to the land.Â
And Art Cullagh, ill as he is, is the key that will unlock their victory, so Halsin feels as though he must protect him every moment, must stay by his side in case he should wake, or take a turn.Â
For days, he has persisted, spurred on by his stamina and willpower. For days, he has waited and watched. Now the idea of sleep falls on him like a spell.Â
âIt is my duty.â He protests. âI will see this through.â
âYou will,â she agrees, âWhen you wake. These people will need you in the days to come. And they will need you to be rested.â
She is playing to his sense of responsibility, he knows, but he is too tired to argue. Reluctantly, he nods his agreement.Â
When he rises from his chair, it seems that all his centuries of existence catch up to him at once, his joints and muscles burning. He feels old and sore and weary as he drags himself toward an empty bed.
âGo on,â Tav commands gently. She feels like a mother nudging a child off to sleep. âEven the greatest leaders need rest.â
âThen you ought to rest yourself.â
She laughs at that, though Halsin means it. He knows so few who are so capable, so resilient, so kind. She has already accomplished so many things that he could not, not in hundreds of years of practice.
âYou flatter me,â Tav smiles, but Halsin shakes his head.Â
âYou are extraordinary.âÂ
His gaze is on her when he says it, on her eyes and mouth and hands, the way her armor cleaves to her, the way her weapon rests against her hip. In another place, another time, another life, he would have had her already, would have known her inside and out if she asked him to.Â
And she had asked him to, once, before they came here. He remembers. At the time he had denied her as gently as he could, in the knowledge that what was growing between them, if cultivated, could later prove a distraction, a weakness.Â
But gods, he had wanted her then. He wants her still.Â
Yet such urges, much like sleep, must be suppressed. At least for now.
Tav stares back at him with wide eyes until she feels a flush come over her cheeks. She turns her face away, just slightly, so that Halsin will not see.Â
âWell.â She clears her throat, and redirects. âIâll rest before we go scouting tomorrow. And Iâll watch Art while you sleep.âÂ
âAs you say.âÂ
**********
In his dreams, he is back in the Shadowfell, that sunless, cursed place.Â
At his feet are bodies, Harper and druid and shade alike. He knows their faces, their names, their stories. Here is Atlan, a boy from his own grove, no more than eighteen years of age. Halsin had cured him once of pox, had later mentored him in the healing arts.Â
And here, Jehan the Harper, who had just received word that his wife was expecting. Twins, heâd announced, over a round of drinks at Last Light.Â
And Moranna, the Selunite priestess who had blessed them again and again on their journey, had prayed over them and shielded them to the best of her ability.Â
All lost to the shadows, corrupted beyond recognition. All dead, cut down by his hand.Â
Halsin does his best to avoid stepping on them as he presses onward, each step a battle of its own. The weight of darkness seems to crush him, seems to drain the very life out of his body.Â
His god is nowhere here.Â
There comes a voice through the black night, distant, disembodied. Halsin, the shadows whisper, and whisper again, closer. Halsin.Â
Wildly he turns and swings his glaive, hitting nothing, the panic rising in his throat, andâ
âHalsin!â Tav exclaims, blocking a swing of his fist with her forearm.Â
She is sitting at the edge of his bed looking concerned, frightened even. His skin is slicked with sweat, his breathing heavy, his body tangled in the bed linens.Â
Immediately, a white-hot shame rushes over him, that he should be the one to cause her fear.Â
That he should strike at her, even unconsciously, his savior, his ally. His friend, though that is too weak a word for the feeling that grows within him, wraps around his heart like wild ivy.Â
âForgive me,â he pants, âI wasââÂ
I was lost in the darkness, he means to say, I was frightened and alone, but the words stick in his throat like flies in honey.
Yet Tav seems to know already, a tenderness softening the furrows of her brow. Not pity, he notes. Understanding.Â
She has seen equivalent horrors, has seen friends fall and foes flourish and still, and still, keeps fighting toward goodness, toward light. He aches with the thought that she might have such nightmares, that she might know firsthand how he feels now.Â
But she soothes him, reaches out to wipe the sweat from his brow, her touch as light and cool as an evening breeze.Â
âItâs alright,â she promises. âYou donât have to explain. You are safe here.â
Halsin lets out a breath heâs been holding for too long. It has been many years since he was last comforted, truly comforted. He is so accustomed to doing the comforting that he has almost forgotten what it feels like to be on the receiving end.Â
Tenderness is no stranger to himâ many of his lovers have been gentle, have been sweetâ but none have ever known his burdens, none have carried them, taken them on as their own. Here is one who has, who does, who will, if he will let her.Â
He takes Tavâs hand in his and guides it, flattens her palm over the rabbit-fast beat of his heart, breathing deeply, willing it to slow. He wants to say, Thank you, then, I love you, but itâs too soon, he thinks, too desperate, no matter how true.Â
âThank you,â Halsin allows, and swallows the rest.Â
Tav smiles at him then, a soft, bright thing, like a single star in the night sky. The true last light in the Shadowlands.Â
âShall I stay with you?â
âArtâ,â Halsin starts, but she shakes her head calmly, knowingly.
âHeâs sleeping soundly. Seems his bad dreams have come to visit you.â
âI do not wish to burden you with something so trivial.â
âYou could not burden me,â Tav says quietly. âBut I will leave, if you prefer.âÂ
Her thumb strokes over his chest, her hand still pressed against him. His pulse quickens again at so intimate, so innocent a touch. Halsin wonders if she can feel it.
âI prefer your presence, always. But you need your own rest.âÂ
âVery well.âÂ
Her palm slips from him as she rises to her feet, and he thinks for a moment that heâs made a mistake, has waved off her kindness, dismissed her.
Rather, she motions for him to move over and climbs slowly, wordlessly into the bed next to him. He finds himself lifting the sheets for her, inviting her in without hesitation.Â
Sheâs changed, he realizes as she comes close, her armor cast aside for the day. Her nightclothes make her look, make her feel smaller, softer. He wants so badly to slip his hands beneath the fabric, to see how soft she is beneath.Â
âIs this alright?â Tav whispers, looking earnestly into his eyes. Her fingertips flit over his cheek, brushing a lock of his hair behind his ear. âAre you alright?â
The bed is small and Halsin is not, and she is pressed against him like a flower between the pages of a book. He can only nod.Â
âI will rest here then, with you.â
In the gentlest act he can or will ever remember, she leans forward and kisses his eyes as if bestowing a blessing upon them, a ward against the darkness.
**********
Halsin wakes again in near-total silence, save the gentle inhale-exhale of Tavâs breathing beside him. He doesnât know how much time has passed, and for the first time in a long time, doesnât mind.Â
Instead, he is aware of how peaceful he feels in this moment, sheltered from the dangers beyond the inn, aware that at one point or another he had let go of his worry and settled deep into dreaming. The earlier tension in his muscles has melted into a tired ache, as if he is returning from a very long walk in the Grove.Â
And she is here, wrapped in his arms. A light to break all shadows.
He canât be sure when it happened. The shift had been imperceptible, like the feeling of falling asleep, or falling in love.

Hi! Can I request poly hcs of yandere bayverse Optimus Prime & Megatron with fem reader. Could you possibly add some fluff? Thank you, love ur blog! đâš
Bayverse Poly! Yandere Optimus Prime X Reader X Megatron
A little longer than I meant, oops-
Youâre Sam Witwickeyâs sibling. You were more well-read than your brother, and much more polite. When Sam said that he was going to sell your great-great grandfatherâs glasses, you were appalled. You immediately snatched them away from him.Â
âThese are antique! So are these!â You snatched other items up. âYou canât sell them, bozo!âÂ
âBut I need the money! For the car!â Sam tried to grab them back.Â
âWhat if I paid for a portion of it?âÂ
Sam halted his movements. âWhat?âÂ
You huffed. âIâll pay for some of the car- but YOU have to make sure to give me rides sometime.â
âYES!â He coughed, âI mean, yeah. Sure. Youâre my sibling, of course youâd get rides.âÂ
Then it happened- you met the Decepticons on the way to get the glasses fixed up. You dropped them off at the small antique shop and began your walk home.
A patrol carâs lights went off next to you, and you pulled off to the side into an alleyway. What shocked you the most, however, was when it transformed into a literal robot. You felt dizzy and collapsed to the ground unconscious.
âFrag.â Barricade muttered, pressing his servo to his helm. âBarricade to Starscream. I have the human, but they are unconscious.âÂ
âBring them to me.â Starscream ordered.
Before Barricade could respond, a loud honk echoed around the alley and a semi slammed into him. Optimus quickly transformed and snatched you off the ground, handing you off to Bumblebee. âGet them to safety!âÂ
Bumblebee drove off with you in tow, and Sam quickly shook you awake. âSam?â You asked. âWhat happened?â You suddenly remembered the giant robot that had forced you into the alleyway. âThe robot-!âÂ
âYeah, thereâs a few of them. Iâll explain in a bit- where are the glasses?âÂ
âBack at the antique shop⊠why?â
Right after you went back to grab the glasses, you met the others. The situation was explained to you, and you were scared. You just wanted to go home and sleep. Unfortunately, as soon as you got home, people from âsector sevenâ were there to take you away.Â
You sat crying in the backseat as Sam and Mikela tried to comfort you. âItâll be okay, (Y/N).â
âNo it wonât!â Simmons said from the front seat. âNot unless you tell us what you kn-âÂ
The car slammed forward. Optimus ripped off the roof of the car. âTaking the children and (Y/N) was a bad move.âÂ
Optimus scooped you up to sit you on his shoulder, holding their weapons on the aggressors the entire time.Â
When Sam and Mikela got taken, you stayed with Optimus. Once you all discovered where the allspark was, the Autobots began the journey there- you in tow. You wanted to go home, but Optimus wouldnât let you. He said it was too dangerous to let you go back home.
During the trip, you and Optimus talked a lot. You both got to know each other really well. Despite it only being a few days, you developed a crush on him.Â
During the battle, Optimus gave you and Sam an order- push the Allspark into his chest, and kill him. You shook your head as Sam moved to do as he was told.Â
âNO, SAM!â You snatched it away. You looked at Megatron and brought the cube near him.Â
A wicked grin appeared on his faceplates, and he held his servo out. âGood, yes, human! Bring it to me!â
A sadness painted your face. Yes, Megatron was evil- but you never wanted to take a life. âIâm sorry,â You whispered. Megatronâs face contorted in rage as you shoved the allspark into his chest.Â
Before he died, he looked into your eyes. âIâll get you for this, human!â
You never recovered from taking a life. Optimus was thankfully there for you, and you both grew extremely close. You were one of the few civilians permitted on the base, often helping out. Your official title was âliaisonâ. Even Galloway liked you.Â
You were visiting Sam when the Decepticon attacked. You were all running for your lives, with you not understanding a thing of what was going on. Mikelaâs car was swept up into the air by a helicopter. You were screaming loudly as it took you all away, and screamed even louder when the car was dropped through a roof and sawed into.Â
Everyone stood up as Starscream spit at you. A deep voice came from behind you all. âCome here, boy.â Megatron hissed. Sam began walking towards him with his hands up. âCloser.âÂ
âSam, no.â You whispered in fear. Megatronâs eyes met yours for the first time since you took his life. Your body froze as still as you could make it.Â
Before you could say anything Megatron grabbed you up from where you were standing and held you in his servo. Sam yelled out your name. âSHUT UP!â Megatron yelled and slapped Sam across the room.Â
âSAM!â You and Mikela shouted in fear. âDonât hurt him! Please!â You begged.Â
Megatron simply ignored you and pinned Sam down with his over servo. âIt feels good to grab your flesh. Iâm going to kill you. Slowly- painfully- but first, we have some delicate work to do.â Sam kept struggling as Megatron mocked him. âOhhh, I could snap your limbs off.â
You struggled in the servo you were tightly held in. âWait! It was me that killed you, so let him go! He didnât do anything!â
Megatron squeezed you tighter in his grasp. âOh, I have something much better planned for you. Now wait your turn.â You struggled to breath as the air left your lungs. Just before you passed out, he loosened his grip. It was a warning- if you werenât quiet, heâd knock you out.
You watched in horror as a minicon send a small bug into Samâs mouth. You had to look away in fear youâd throw up from the sight. In your mind you were hoping for Optimus to find you, to save you.
Your prayers were answered as Optimus and Bumblebee came slamming through into the building firing off shots. Megatron quickly stashed you in his subspace and began fighting Optimus.Â
You were thrown around in the tight space and you hoped that Optimus would figure out you were in there. Sounds were muffled, but you could make out sounds of blasting. Soon enough, the sounds faded. The subspace opened and you were taken out into the sunlight. It took your eyes a moment to adjust, but when they did your heart stopped in your chest.Â
On the ground before you was Optimus- a giant hole in his chest. He was obviously dead. You felt tears well up in your eyes as a wail left your throat.
âYouâre mine now, human. Optimus will never be able to save you again.âÂ
Megatron took you with him to his hideout. He was originally going to use you to make Sam come out of hiding, but he soon realized why Optimus kept you around. You were smart for your race, and offered fairly good advice (even if said advice was forced out with the threat of violence). The Fallen left you alone, seeing the logic in a living hostage.Â
In your short time there, Megatron had begun to grow feelings for you. He didnât bother denying them- he was a Decepticon. If there was something he wanted, heâd take it.Â
After his defeat and the Fallenâs death in Egypt, Megatron offered Optimus a deal he couldnât pass up.Â
âWhy donât we share them? Frag this war, and just hide away?âÂ
Optimus glared at him. âDo you really expect me to believe you?âÂ
Megatron chuckled. âYou can either accept it, or never see them again, Prime.â
Optimus had no choice but to accept. They hid out on a small island, inhabited with nothing but animals. You were protected as long as you were with them. You also had plenty of books, food, and water. Anything you asked for, except your freedom, was given to you.Â
However, at night, when everyone was resting, you were building a raft. You had a book that they gave you that had some basic instructions. When you set off, the raft was surprisingly sturdy. Your supplies were enough to last for a few days- hopefully when you would find someone to help you.Â
When you heard the familiar sound of a jet, tears filled your eyes. You shouldnât have even bothered to try. Megatron scooped you up and brought you back. When you got there, Optimus was waiting with a horrible glare on his face.Â
âWhere did you think you were going?â He growled.Â
Tears fell before you could stop them. âI just wanted to see my family! My friends!âÂ
Optimus and Megatron felt a smidgen of guilt. Megatron held you closer as Optimus lifted your chin to make you look at him, a gentle smile on his faceplates. âAnd you will see them,â he petted your hair a little, âWhen you learn to behave. I canât allow them to take you from me-â
âUs.â Megatron growled.Â
Optimus glanced at him and back to you. âUs. You are ours. We wonât let you get away.â
Megatron chimed in with a sadistic grin on his faceplates. âIf you ever try again, Iâll lock you away so youâll never see the sun again. Understand?âÂ
All you could do is nod as a soft smile came to Optimusâ faceplates. âGood.âÂ

Hello and mwahhhh
It feels so goooood to be back! My last Tumblr account got deleted a few months ago - unexpectedly, out-of-blue, leaving me so disheartened. I took some time to reevaluate and intentionally plan how to return, the kind of blog I wanted to cultivate again, and the type of community that Iâd like to help invigorate.
I am still that kinky, smutty lil slut exploring switchy dynamics amidst my strong sub tendencies, but am going to leave my sexual explorations and journey to my FetLife page. So please head over there for all of that juicy goodness! I want this Tumblr account to be a meeting place for all those looking for acceptance within kinky lifestyles. A place where kindness, self-love, and positivity reign. I encourage Asks, open, kind discussion, and the general spreading of good vibes and honest advice. How I've missed you all! And eeeeek...I am very excited to keep sharing my story, inspiring connections, and peeing my pips. đđ
(It would mean so much to me if you could help spread the word that I have returned. It is a tall task to restart a blog, and I appreciate your help so very much. Thank you, loveys!)

HIIII PINK!!! When I heard you were leaving I was so sad I even started crying and started to doubt myself on entering the void. I was like âhow tf am I going to get into the void without pink???â I started procrastinating reading some of your post basically stalking ur page staying up til 4 in the morning (I was desperate đ). I realized that I already read all of ur post, nd I just was surprised on how much time I wasted trying to get into the void. And I always dreamt abt putting a success story in your inbox. I already had all the knowledge i needed so whatâs the point of more? I deleted tumblr and thought of anything that could help me get in the void. I did SATS while listening to my subliminal playlist, i daydreamed abt the void and my desires for fun, i affirmed for my void concept randomly throughout the day, feeling of the wish fulfilled, listened to delta waves when I was abt to sleep, and I meditated once a day for 10 mins. Meditation was optional but whateva đ€·ââïž. I ONLY DID THAT FOR THREE FREAKING DAYS. And Im still mad at myself for wasting time procrastinating for 9 months. I was going to take a nap and I was in a drowsy state, so might as well affirm for the void right? I started saying affs like âIâm in the voidâ, etc etc. Once I started affirming, everything was just calm Yk? My body wanted to move but it was like it couldnât cause the state I was in was calm asf. So I closed my eyes and just repeated the affs in my head over and over and over until I got this feeling like as if my body was floating, then I payed attention to it for a split second then ignored It after. I kept on affirming then I felt like I was being pulled then let go and it was as if I was falling. Everything got darker and quieter. So then I got scared and jumped because that scared me soo bad (Iâm a easy person to scare đ). After that, I felt like I was actually a master at the void, I took a nap again and I had the same feeling but when I felt like I fell I kept my calm. Then I couldnât hear my fan which was louddd, I opened my eyes to total darkness, I was scared for two seconds and realized I was in the void!! Ngl I had a whole list set up with my desires and I was ready to affirm and goooo!!! But I realized how calm the void is and stayed there for what felt like 5 minutes. I did affirm I had all my desires and that I was able to wake up in the void under 5 seconds. When I woke up from the void it was 9 pm and I took a nap at 2!!! I woke up with all of my desires nd shi. (I would explain in more detail in how I got in and stuff like that but I was in a rush and didnât want to make this too long đ)
BUT THANK YOU SMM PINK, IM GOING TO MISS U SM. YOU HAVE BEEN A REALLY BIG HELP WITH MY VOID JOURNEY, I TRULY APPRECIATE EVERYTHING U HAVE DONE FOR THIS COMMUNITY, MAKE SURE TO ENJOY UR SELF đđđđđđđ
âïžđŒ
Hi love!!! Omgosh I'm so proud of you! This is so cute and you deserve this so much and I'm genuinely happy for you. đ

Name Your Price â Amren x Reader (Starfall Week)
Hiiii! Hereâs my little piece for @starfallweek 2024. I hope you all like it đmy beautiful soulmate @greeneyedivy helped me name it đ
đ»
I used the prompt âcharacter A finally makes a move on character Bâ. Iâve never written for Amren before so this was quite fun!
Warnings: None.
Word Count: 3.9k
âYouâre sure you donât want me to fly you back up?â
Cassian cocks an eyebrow at you, the steadiness of his hold dissipating as he tugs his arms from around you. Though your feet are on solid ground, it takes a moment for your equilibrium to right itself. Being in the skies is something you havenât yet become accustomed to, despite three of your closest friends sporting wings. And being flown on Starfall is an experience entirely of its own.
âYouâll miss the best part,â Cass complains, peering up at the dark canopy above you. The sky is beginning to stir as the stars ready themselves for their journeys. It wonât be long before theyâre soaring and crossing.
And tempting as it is to stay and watch the sight that never lessens in its magnificence, you feelâŠdifferent this year. Like thereâs somewhere else you ought to be. Someone else you ought to be with.
âIâm sure,â you dip your chin. âYou go, Cass. Enjoy it.â
But he doesnât move. He studies you head to toe, studies every shred of effort you put into your appearance â hair and makeup perfected, a stunning outfit hugging your body. You feel beautiful, no doubt â and yet youâre leaving after a mere hour of drinking on the balcony with your friends.
âYou know sheâs just going to be holed up in her apartment with the curtains drawn,â Cass says. âShe hates Starfall.â
You cock an eyebrow. âWho?â
âYou know who.â
Amren.
Is it little bit humiliating that youâre so damn transparent? Perhaps. But Cass is one of your closest companions â you can hardly expect him to believe that youâre simply leaving to return to your own home and switch your stunning dress for your pyjamas.
You shrug a shoulder. âI just want to check on her, is all.â
âHmm,â your friendâs lips twitch. âIâm sure.â
With a roll of your eyes, you swat his ludicrously huge arm. âGo back to the party,â but you lean up to press a kiss to his cheek. âThank you â for flying me.â
âGood luck with the tiny little rain cloud. Sheâll be even crankier tonight than usual.â
With a lopsided smirk and a fond â and annoying â mussing of your hair, he launches back into the sky and heads back to the House of Wind. You stare after him, wondering if youâre making the right choice.
Because when Amren says she wants to be left alone, she means it. ButâŠyou donât know. Things have been changing. Things have beenâŠdifferent.
This is your third Starfall, since your move to the Night Court after the war. A native of the Day Court, it had surprised you to find yourself so at home in a place of starlight, so opposite to what youâd always known. But as one of Helion Spell-Cleaverâs nearest and dearest, youâd worked closely with Rhysand and his Inner Circle during those fraught times of battle and bloodshed â and bonded with them far more than youâd ever expected yourself to. Become an honorary member of their unit, so to speak.
And when Rhysand had courteously invited you for a visit to Velaris after the war was over, youâd known from the second your feet had touched the cobbled streets â this was where you were supposed to be.
Three years later, with a home here, a job as a Night courtierâŠit was hard to imagine youâd ever been anywhere else.
And perhaps the most notable and unexpected connection youâd forged was the one you had with the with the tiny creature whose barbed, edged words were â youâd learned â a sign of affection.
You did not understand Amren one bit. She was a mystery you couldnât puzzle out, a being that was sometimes so harsh, it was hard to believe she had any warmth in her at all. But Rhysand giving the two of you a subject heâd needed you to research together had brought you closer, over the recent months. Had shredded through that trepidation youâd once felt around her and shifted it into somethingâŠdifferent. Something exciting.
You find that try as you might, you canât stay away.
And thatâs how you find yourself strolling those cobbled streets of Velaris, dressed up to the nines and stars beginning to burst above you. You could be spectating the brilliant sight with your friends, but something tugs you towards the other side of the city. To the loft apartment with the sloping windows and the strange, intriguing female who dwells within
Indeed, as you approach, you find those windows to be blacked out. Blocking out the sight of what is occurring in the skies. You almost smile, but now youâre nervous and second-guessing yourself a little. You could turn away, go home â in all likelihood, Amren wonât want to see you.
But tonight feels different. Tonight feels like a reckoning.
So you swallow your nerves and decide youâre doing this.
â§: *â§ïœ„ïŸâ§ïœ„ïŸ: *â§ïœ„ïŸâ§ïœ„ïŸ: *â§ïœ„ïŸâ§ïœ„ïŸ: *â§ïœ„ïŸâ§ïœ„ïŸ: *â§ïœ„ïŸ
You knock once, and a voice that is both nightmare and fantasy calls out, âGo away!â
Not unusual for Amren. She tells guests to go away, even when sheâs invited them.
So you brace a hand against the door and call back, âItâs me.â
Thereâs a beat. And then small footsteps are padding closer. There are the sounds of bolts being undone, locks clicking. Whatever it is Amren feels she needs keep out is little more than a distant thought as she yanks the door open just a tad and eyes you suspiciously through the gap. Her steely gaze takes in your dress, hair, makeup. She lifts her chin.
âWhy are you here?â she asks.
You shrug. Feel a little pathetic as you answer, âI thought Iâd come see what youâre up to.â Â
âWhy.â
âPerhaps I find your company to be just slightly more scintillating than Cassianâs.â
At that, thereâs the briefest twitch of her lips. She masks it expertly. âA dead rat has more to offer in the way of company than that boy.â
You snort, rubbing at your arms. Goosebumps are pebbling your skin. The air is too brisk to comfortably be stood in for too long.
Amren studies you again, and too quickly for you to register, sheâs widening the gap in the door and yanking you in by the front of your dress. She slams the door shut and gets to work refastening the bolts, sliding across the chains, securing every lock. Itâs all you can do to stand and watch.
And then she turns to face you with a neutral expression â one that says that if you find anything peculiar about her behaviour, shut the fuck up. You know she wonât tell you whatâs got her so on edge, so you donât bother asking.
Instead, you turn, still rubbing at your chilled skin, and study the general disarray of her huge, open-plan studio apartment. Her bed is unmade, her trinkets and baubles scattered across various surfaces. And on the numerous overlapping rugs that cover the floor, a gathering of books, some stacked in a pile, others tossed aside, a few open on certain pages. It would seem she is spending the night going over your recent research.
âPerhaps a drink?â you ply, angling away from the mess.
She quirks a dark eyebrow. âTell me, what is it about you and the others barging into my home and making demands of me?â
âI believe itâs customary to offer your guests refreshments.â
âI believe I didnât ask for guests in the first place.â
Her words, to anyone outside your circle, would sound so sharp, so harsh. But you know Amren, now. That last sentence vaguely translates another meaning: I wasnât expecting guests, but thank you for coming. Of course Iâll get you a drink.
Not that sheâd ever say that in a million fucking years.
She saunters past you, towards the kitchen area. As she goes, she closes the open books and throws them onto the stacks. Picks up empty glasses.
âDonât clean up on my account,â you say, knowing full well that she isnât.
âIâm not,â she confirms. âI donât want your clumsy feet treading on anything,â she places the empty glasses in the sink and turns to you. âWhat do you want to drink? Thereâs wine, wine, or wine.â
âIâll have the wine, then.â
With the barest incline of her head, she turns her back to you. While sheâs occupied, you take a moment to study the covered windows, everything that blocks out whatâs occurring outside. Even the skylights are covered, and your lips twitch at the thought of her wrestling her way up there to fasten drapes over them.
Itâs all so methodical, so thought out. And though you know sheâd probably never tell you, you canât help wanting to break down that barrier and know the more vulnerable side to her that is so unsettled by this holiday.
A glass is placed in your hand, and you clear your throat, ripping your gaze away from the skylight â but not fast enough for Amren not to notice.
âIt unsettles me,â she says drily, surprising you.
You try your hardest not to blink at the offered snippet of information. âWhat does?â
âStarfall. What it is. What it signifies.â Taking a slow sip of her wine, she sits on the rug. You follow suit. âThose stars, beings, whatever you want to call themâŠthey are on a journey. Going from one place to another. Perhaps from one world to another. That was once me.â
ââŠand that unsettles youâŠâ
âPerhaps I know one of them, from many, many years ago. Perhaps they are an associate of a time and a world long-forgotten. A past friend or foe orââ
âA lover?â you supply. Youâre not sure you mean to say it.
But Amrenâs grey eyes slide to you, and one side of her mouth lifts into a wicked grin, bearing sharp white teeth. âDoes that surprise you?â
âYes. No. I suppose I know nothing of your personal relationships. Of what you like.â
âI like what I like, and I hate what I donât like.â
You stare at her, thoroughly annoyed and thoroughly entertained. Speaking with Amren is so often trickery and riddles. No matter how much you may feel like youâre getting somewhere, she always leads you on a merry dance that circles you back to the first step.
âAnd what of you?â she asks, surprising you.
Your eyes snag on the way her razor-sharp black hair moves as she angles her head. The ends tickle the column of her long, creamy neck, adorned with a jewelled necklace. For one moment, for some reason, the sight makes your head empty.
But you shake yourself out of the bizarre reaction and ask, âWhat of me?â
âWhat do you like?â Amren asks.
You almost snort as you take a long sip of your wine. Amren is simply not somebody who asks questions about other people very often. And the topic of your love life seems like one that would be trivial and pointless to her.
âAre you asking because you want to know?â you smile. âOr to be polite?â
Another flash of those brilliant teeth. âHave you ever known me to be polite?â
âI suppose not, no.â
âSo tell me, girl, what takes your fancy?â
Draining your glass, you set it aside and lounge back, bracing yourself on your hands. And perhaps the wine is already commanding your mind and blurring lines â because it tells you to glance down at the full lips in front of you, painted with red thatâs deepened by the dark nectar she sips at.
You do.
Amren watches. The air seems to shift.
âPour me another glass,â your voice comes out huskier than you intend, âand Iâll tell you.â
â§: *â§ïœ„ïŸâ§ïœ„ïŸ: *â§ïœ„ïŸâ§ïœ„ïŸ: *â§ïœ„ïŸâ§ïœ„ïŸ: *â§ïœ„ïŸâ§ïœ„ïŸ: *â§ïœ„ïŸ
âLions?â
Rare, for Amren to sound like anything besides being perpetually bored. An hour or so later â and too many glasses later â the two of you are sprawled back on the rug, staring at the ceiling.
âHelion keeps lions?â she turns her head to quirk an eyebrow at you.
âYes,â you answer with a laugh in your voice. âVery real, very fucking huge lions.â
âI rather thought that Pegasuses were his thing.â
âThey are. But his lions are a prided jewel of his â and a court secret that I absolutely should not be sharing with you.â
Her petite, lithe body rolls onto its side. She crooks her arm at the elbow and rests her chin there, staring at you through glazed, grey eyes.
It takes only a beat of eye contact for you both to break into laughter.
This isâŠunusual. And nice. Though the two of you have undoubtedly been growing closer, Amren always has a glass wall up that allows you to peer through but not penetrate. Tonight is the first night that you feel thatâŠthat you might be on the other side of that wall. That she might be letting her guard down for you.
You like it. A lot.
The laughter thinning out, she stares at you. Itâs a little strange to see those sharp, angled features not appear harsh and ready to slice at anyone. She appearsâŠopen. Almost normal.
âLions,â she repeats, in something like wonderment. âAnd they just roam about his private estate? Are they tame?â
âHe has sprawls of private land on which they can roam freely,â you tell her. âThat land is guarded very well, from anyone he doesnât wish to share the sight with. The lions are very tame. Thereâs a rumour â though I never got Helion to confirm it â that they once walked on two legs and spoke our language. That thousands of years ago, a curse bound them to their feline form that even Helionâs vast libraries hold no answer to cracking. And since they werenât able to break the curse, he and his predecessors set to ensure that they would, at least, always be safe and accommodated and able to live comfortably as they are. If itâs true, they seem perfectly happy in their lion bodies.â
âSo Helion allowed you access to them? What are they like?â
You smile â at the images that the question conjures up, and the fact that you hold Amrenâs interest enough for her to ask it at all. It makes you feelâŠproud, somehow. Like the cat that got the cream.
âAmazing,â you rest your arms behind your head, taking yourself back to that private land on which you spent so much time â just you and the lions. âTheyâre justâŠregal. The males have huge, brilliant manes. The females are so lithe and elegant. The cubs are painfully adorable. There are families of them. Sometimes, they fight. Often, they play. They love to snooze in the sun and frolic in the long grass. The youngsters love splashing each other in the lake. If they recognise you as someone they can trust, you can comfortably sit with them and stroke their fur. They especially like you if you bring them food.â
Thereâs such a long pause as Amren takes in your words that after a short while, your eyes slide to her, half expecting to find her asleep. But she simply stares at you. Quiet. Assessing.
âI think I would like to see lions,â she says after a moment. To her, it seems to be a huge confession. Something not easy to admit.
You study the perfect lines of her face. That face that appears in your thoughts when youâre trying to sleep, think about absolutely anything but her. Youâre not sure you like how drawn you are to her. Sheâs so unreachable that it only makes you reach harder. So difficult to work out that sometimes, you question if she delights in your company at all.
It is, after all, you who always seeks her out. Since you began your research together, itâs been you who has found excuses to see her.
You who barged your way into her home tonight, while stars collided above you.
And you who might do something unwise if you stay any longer.
You clear your throat, breaking eye contact. Your head feels as though itâs filled with cotton as you sit up and announce, âPerhaps I should go.â
Amren pauses. âWhy?â
âI didnât mean to take up your entire evening.â
âYou could stay,â she also sits up, tucking her legs beneath her. âYou never did tell me what it is you like.â
You take a moment to justâŠbreathe. Youâre not used to Amren being soâŠwarm. Itâs dangerous. Exciting. You donât know if itâs safe.
Slowly, you turn on the floor to face her. âIâm not sure youâd appreciate the answer.â
A dark eyebrow arches. She likes doing that. âTell it to me anyway.â
Should you? Maybe it wouldnât be a bad thing. Maybe youâll tell her that thoughts of her keep you awake, not in the forms of nightmares but in the allure of fantasies. Maybe then sheâll cease all work she does with you, and distance herself from you, and you can rid yourself of these feelingsâ
âYou are what I like,â you speak quickly, flushing hot. âWho I like. I was thankful when Rhysand tasked us to work together, because I was already drawn to you. It seems I canât stay awayââ
A flash of dark hair, the potent scent of perfume and wine, are the only warnings you get before Amren is in your face, her perfect mouth sliding over yours. Wine is the overpowering taste of the kiss, but there are hints of other things behind it â sweet vanilla and something floral.
It takes you by surprise, no doubt. But you push the shock away and sink into the rightness of it. Your shoulders slump, body loosening. You slide a hand up to tentatively cup Amrenâs cheek, and you kiss her back.
What starts out slow and explorative quickly builds into something that steals the very air from your lungs. Your bodies seem to move in perfect synchronisation, finding the right positions from which the kiss can deepen and grow. Amren kneels between your legs, and a sharp tooth gives the slightest, twinging bite to your lower lip â one that makes you gasp.
The act is deliberate. She slides her tongue into your mouth, folding it around yours. Your tastes mingle until youâre not sure which is yours and which is hers, and that simply will not do. You want her on your tongue. The flavour of her skin and that scent of hers that is quickly growing stronger, thicker, shifting into something else that you would commit sins to taste.
Your fingers sink into Amrenâs hair, and she makes a low noise that could be a warning or a plea. The strands, despite always looking sharp enough to slice through rock, are silken, soft. You fist them in your palm and tilt her head back to kiss her deeper.
But she pulls away, her heavy breaths landing on your lips. Her eyes meet yours, and itâs the first time you see her looking anything besidesâŠsteeled. Composed.
She looks flustered. Like pulling away from your mouth was the last thing she wanted to do.
âI donât know what this means,â she blurts.
The admission makes you pause. You agree, âNeither do I.â
âNoânot just this. What you do to me. I donât know what any of this means,â she narrows her eyes at you, almost accusatory. âEmotions like these have always felt pointless to me, but youâŠâ
ââŠbut me?â
âYouâŠâ the word is leaden on her tongue. âYou are different.â
Her gaze slides to your mouth again, and you can tell that her comfort is in articulating her feelings with actions, not words.
And that is just fine by you.
Like she reads the encouragement straight from your thoughts, a breathy word escapes her. âYes.â
And then sheâs fastening her lips on yours again and stamping out every shred of confusion. No matter what either of you are unable to say, the dance of your mouths can speak it all. For now, no more than that is necessary.
Amren kisses you, and you kiss her. Itâs deep, desperate, yearning. Itâs bigger than anything and everything. The stars that race through the sky pale in comparison.
This is the real beauty of this night. The real thing you had hoped for. It could end no better way.
You kiss until your mouths are bruised and tender. Until the taste of wine is gone, and thereâs nothing but the two of you on your tongues. For all you know, the rest of the world outside this apartment could have disappeared. Youâre not sure you care.
Youâre the one to pull away this time, but you donât move far. You part your lips to gulp down breaths and press your forehead to Amrenâs. Your voice is a rasp as you joke, âYou better not be kissing me just so Iâll show you the lions.â
She laughs â actually laughs. Itâs a short, brusque chortle, but it makes you glow with pride.
But she quickly sobers. Her face is serious once more, her eyes drinking you in.
âIâm kissing you, girl,â she says, âbecause I think about you too much. Because the very first time I laid eyes on you, it scared me â what I might do to look at you forever.â
You try to mask your surprise. You hadnât realisedâ
âIt was me who suggested to Rhysand that you and I should work together,â she admits. She pulls back a little, as if urging you to read the honesty on her face. âIt felt pathetic and foolish, but I did it to be close to you. I canât stop myself wanting to be close to you.â
Exactly the same feelings you had tortured yourself with all this time. To think that Amren had agonised over it just as you had is comforting, somehow.
You reach out a hand, pinching a strand of her soft hair between your fingers. She watches the action closely.
âDonât stop yourself wanting it,â you say, not at all sure that it isnât a plea. âDonât stop yourself, when I want it, too.â
ââŠIâm not used to beingâŠunsure of things.â
âEmbrace it,â you offer a smile. âHave fun with it.â With me.
She stares at you, brooding and calculating. You wait for her to decide that this is too out of the realms of familiarity. She wonât allow herself to be so vulnerable.
But then she moves her hand to yours â the one still touching her hair. Slowly, tentatively, she laces your fingers together. She stares down at your joined hands as though the sight is alien, fascinating.
âStay,â she eventually says, glancing up at you. Thereâs an undertone in her voice, an inference.
ââŠthe entire night?â you hedge. You try to keep the hopefulness out of your tone.
Her red lips lift into a smirk, grey eyes glimmering. âOn one condition.â
âName your price.â
Your heart picks up as she leans in again. Her hair tickles your cheek, and she watches closely as your skin flushes at the proximity. Her lips hover against yours.
But instead of kissing you, she whispers four words that land straight on your waiting mouth.
âShow me the lions.â

stop the world i wanna get off with you ! kimi r. x ofc (coppola!ofc)
âwith the exception of you, i dislike everyone in the room.â
summary: vera jones âcoppaâ coppola-raikkonen happens to be one of the three original it girls of formula one. funnily enough, sheâs also the one to give birth to the loudest/messiest versions of the iceman as she continues her journey as a mother and a wife (all while sheâs a director of the most iconic movies to have existed).
content warning: fictional raikkonen kids, mentions of breakups, mentions of tilly hearth and trish alonso (ofc) use of explicit language, family banters in social media
note: i know i have the most random selection of drivers on my masterlist but i swear iâm just tryna indulge in my lil bubble of happiness.
