lastly, I just want to take the time to appreciate some of the more memorable images I’ve collected of his long hair. I personally think the resurgence of the style is in part due to TNBA’s look since that’s the general design I’ve seen that hair paired with lately, though whether that’s the case I’m not sure.

I’m a glutton for punishment so I paired that with TTG’s future episode nightwing. like a fine wine and moldy cheese, these two. but it’s a testament to TNBA’s potential and lasting influence.

look at that. that ponytail is dangerous. it’s violated the no-kill rule on its own. also loving the founding fathers look of the second panel in this batch. it curls at the end. how quaint. I am, however, going to be sick

comics also make fun of dick on a relatively consistent basis, which has also done its part in keeping the look alive. Nightwing #98 (the above panels) is from a little less than a year ago, so pretty recent! but times have changed and the luscious locks haven’t made the cut in recent comics.

me personally, I’m a fan of the curtain fringe/soft mullet look that’s become sort of the default in the past few years, but the long hair will forever be famous. how many times did he get yanked by that ponytail in a fight. how many times did it get stuck on something which in turn lost him crucial reaction time. it really was his coming of age haircut and I’ll split hairs about its history anytime. every hair pun in this cost me one year of my life

Ok so this (probably) isn't going to go anywhere and is 100000000% @illuminated-in-darkness fault for making me listen to francesca by hozier so much (i love you haha) but here's some cursed skeleton island fic

“You asked me once what I would do to get Thomas back,” James says and sees a flicker of hope in Silver’s eyes “what I would trade. I didn’t know then, but I do now.”

“So you’ll stop this then?” Silver asks, desperate.

His hand is shaking on the gun, his grip too tight around its hilt, and his stance is unsteady. If James wanted to, he could knock the gun from his grip and take it from him in an instant. But then he would have to kill Silver, and he can’t do it.

He doesn’t want to.

“No,” James says, his eyes flicking past Silver and into the forest surrounding them. He can’t see the men Silver brought with them, can’t hear them, but he knows they’re out there. Lying in wait.

But that’s not what he’s looking for. Not who he’s looking for. He knew the stories of this place, of the things you saw in it, the voices you heard. The shadowy figures standing just out of sight so that you couldn’t be sure if you had ever actually seen them to begin with.

He looks for her, for Miranda. He wants to see her, wants to hear her voice like he used to when he had been lost to his grief, and then later to the madness of dehydration. Silver had saved him then, had taken her away from him, and he’d been grateful for it.

Now he can’t help but resent him for it a little.

He can’t see her.

“I would do it all again, every bit of it. Every choice I ever made that led me here, everything that I’ve lost. All of it, because they killed her,” his voice cracks, and he can see a flash of something akin to fear on Silver’s face as he realizes he’s miscalculated.

hellraiser (1987): gorgeous goopy practical 80s effects!! also i really like the story!! i wrote a paper on the history of this movie but i will refrain from any more detail here!!

sunset boulevard (1950): thank you, billy wilder, for one of THEE noirs of all time. young scriptwriter falls into a decaying orbit around an aging star of the silver screen. feels like a haunted house story despite a lack of ghosts

throne of blood (1957): akira kurosawa adapts macbeth. i've seen this movie 5 times or so and it does NOT get old. recommend it for the macbeth fans out there bc it makes some vv interesting choices

ikiru (1952): films that make you cry 😭mortality and what's important in life

anata kaimasu (i will buy you) (1956): putting this on here partly bc i think no one's watched it and that's a shame! baseball movie w barely any baseball; it's about a scout trying to recruit a top college player to his pro team and the lengths that are necessary.

the remains of the day by kazuo ishiguro: this book made me oh so sad :(( ishiguro is very good at writing in the voice of a character who sees and talks in straight lines and using that to paint a picture of curves and nuance that the main character themself is not capable of comprehending

neverwhere by neil gaiman: what a good book!!! i think i have three copies of it scattered through various places. i love the geography of the magical world, i love the characters, and (as an aromantic) i loved that the main man and woman don't become a couple :P ymmv on that last, of course

the house in the cerulean sea by tj klune: a book that made me almost cry :"(( govt employee in charge of Managing Magical Youth goes to observe an orphanage of six magical youngsters and the strange and compelling man in charge. will these kids charm him out of following the rules he's been told to? could his relationship w their caretaker become.. something more? recommended for middle aged men enjoyers.

also, Lilia in particular has maybe the best timeskip character development of all time

i have lots of flaws but i do at least take a fair amount of comfort knowing that, if i were a customer NPC in a fast food/retail management game, i would be one of the chill early-level ones that can wait a super long time before they start getting impatient, and you breathe a sigh of a relief when you see them show up in a harder level

I have no idea what Dulcinea is teaching or even doing here. Neither does Gideon. And no one cares. Except for Harrow. She cares a lot.

DP x DC: The Most Dangerous Card Game

Ok so Danny has essentially claimed earth as his. And he is fully aware that there are constant threats to the planet. Now he can’t stop a threat that originates on earth (that’s something he’ll leave to the Justice league) but he can do something about outside threats. Doing some research on ancient spells, rituals, and artifacts, he cast a world wide barrier on the planet to protect it from hostile threats so they cannot enter. This will prevent another Pariah Dark incident. However, barriers like this come at a price. You see, there are two ways to make a barrier. Either make one powered up by your own energy and power (which would be constantly draining) or set up a barrier with rules. The way magic works is that nothing can be absolutely indestructible. It must have a weakness. The most powerful barriers weren’t the ones reinforced with layer after layer of protective charms and buffed up with power. Those could eventually be destroyed either by being overpowered, wearing them down, or by cutting off the original power source. No, the most powerful barriers were the ones with a deliberate weakness. A barrier indestructible except for one spot. A cage that can only be opened from the outside. Or that can only be passed with a key or by solving a riddle. So Danny chooses this type of barrier and does the necessary ritual and pours in enough power to make it. And he adds his condition for anyone to enter. 

Now the Justice league? Find out about the barrier when Trigon attempts to attack, they were preparing after he threatened what he would do once he got to earth. How he would destroy them. The Justice league tried to take the fight to him first but were utterly destroyed, so they retreated home to tend to their injuries, and fortify earth for one. Last. Stand. Only when Trigon makes his big entrance…he’s stopped.

The Justice league watch in awe as this thin see-through barrier with beautiful green swirls and speckled white lights like stars apears blocking Trigon and his army’s advance. The barrier looks so thin and fragile yet no matter how hard the warlord hits, none of his attacks can get through and neither can he damage said barrier. That’s when Constantine and Zatanna recognizes what this barrier is. Something only a powerful entity could create. For a moment, the league is filled with hope that Trigon can’t get through yet Constantine also explains that it’s not impenetrable. And clearly Trigon knows this too for he calls out a challenge. 

And that’s when, in a flash of light, a tiny glowing teenager appears. He looked absolutly minuscule compared to Trigon and yet practically glowed with power (this isn’t a King Danny AU though).

And that is when the conditions for passing the barrier are revealed. And the Justice realize that the only thing stopping Trigon and his army from decimating earth. The only way he can get through….is by beating this glowing teenager in a card game. 

Not just any card game though. The most convoluted game Sam, Danny, and Tucker invented themselves. It’s like the infinite realms version of magic the gathering, combined with Pokémon, and chess. And Danny is the master. So sit down Trigon and let’s play.

(The most intense card game of the Justice league’s life).

After Danny wins, this happens a few more times with outer word beings and possibly even demons attempting to invade earth, yet none have been able to beat the mysterious teenager in a card game. Constantine might even take a crack at it and try to figure out how to play. He’s really bad though. Every time this happens, the Justice league worry that this might be the time the teenager looses. Yet every time, he wins (even if only barely). 

Meanwhile, Danny, Sam, and Tucker have gotten addicted to the game and play it almost daily. Some teachers might seem them playing the game are are like ‘awww how cute’ not realizing this game is literally saving the world. Jazz is just happy they aren’t spending as much time on their screens playing Doomed.
