I've been reading teen wolf fic this week and I'm having a great time! But I feel a little weird that Boyd is often introduced as "the black guy." Like. Nobody else's race has been brought up in any of the fics I've read. But Boyd's is his defining physical feature. Idk it's got me thinking about how in a lot of western literature white is understood to be the Default Race and people only describe race when the person isn't white. As someone who watched like, one season of teen wolf when it first came out and hasn't touched it since, the information is helpful, but maybe there are smoother ways to incorporate it than this? Not exactly sure what a "better" approach would look like though. I'd be curious to hear thoughts on this from fans of color and writers.
