BLM Movement

I wanted to take the time to address the issue that me making this petition during this time may be seen as tone deaf, since there is a far more important movement happening in the world right now. I have to say, I completely understand where that viewpoint is coming from and I was hesitant to start doing this because of the timing. But I decided to start the petition anyways for a few reasons.

First of all, of course the BLM movement is the main focus of the world right now and it should be. I’ve spent a lot of time listening and amplifying black voices, having tough discussions with my family and friends, and donating to organizations as well as signing petitions. I don't think I’m the perfect “ally” - I could always be doing more. I also think that Yemen is not getting enough attention at all, so please please donate to the 2 million children that are malnourished there right now. 

With all of this going on, that doesn’t mean that as humans we stop enjoying the things we enjoy. We all probably already spend too much time thinking about twilight, and that’s why I’ve come to this area of Tumblr to find my “target audience” I guess. I’ve messaged many of you guys about my idea, because I figured if you’re interested in Twilight you may be interested in this too. We all spend time laughing at twilight memes, overanalyzing, so I don’t think it hurts to talk about a TV series. I really think if I was messaging people personally about signing a petition to declare the KKK as a terrorist organization it would not really make much of an impact. For the most part, we’re all aware of these petitions going on, and I really hope we’ve all signed many of them by now. 

One of the sad things about the BLM movement, other than the fact that it is still happening in 2020, is that this will likely be going on for a long time. Changes unfortunately do not happen overnight - especially since we are trying to completely change the system. So for this little idea that I have, I don’t think there will be the “right time” to do it anytime soon. And for me, I’m currently not working because of COVID-19, so I really have nothing better to do than harass people online to get the word out about my stupid idea for a Netflix series. 

For me, I refound my love for Twilight during quarantine - as did many other fans, so I think while we’re all bored out of our minds and finding our love for Twilight again - it’s the perfect time to spark this idea in everyones mind. With Midnight Sun coming out & quarantine keeping us all indoors, this is probably the most alive the fandom has been in many years. 

I think we all know that there isn’t enough representation in Twilight of black people + POC. Just overall a lack of diversity.  So with a Twilight Series, there could be a lot more representation that just reflects the world that we know of today. And I think that would be amazing to see and hopefully redeem it in some light. I personally think there is so much potential with a series, so that’s why I’m spending so much time and energy on this. 

Anyways, I really do apologize for the poor timing in what I’m doing at the moment. I’ve kinda gotten the idea stuck in my head, and I haven’t been doing anything at all for months, so this has become a little mission of mine and I’m excited to have a little project to work on. Even though I’m passionate about this, the equality and justice for those who have been discriminated against for far too long is far more important.

I remember when I was 15 in 2009 and everyone was first obsessed with the Twilight and I didn't even know what it was, then I slowly got into it and then others slowly moved into a "still better love story than twilight"-phase and when I accidentally spit somewhere that I actually kinda liked the movie they were like "ooow or the Edward's abs" and I was like erhmm because I was 100% #TeamBella (and believe or not I also liked that gloomy rainy atmosphere)

Seriously I got posters of her and I almost dyed my hair brown (green, pink, blue hair, but never have I ever had brown) and almost bought exact copy of her jacket and Bella's style never was anything that I'd otherwise wear. And oh then there were Victoria too 🤔
