dancer au with:
talented but a bit 'rough diamond' Yor struggling to find her balance in loosing herself in the arts and being accepted among her peers (the usual low self esteem she has to fight and the wish to be 'normal')
a bit on the edge of a burnout, a bit bitter 'could have been' teacher Melinda shaping Yor into everything she couldn't achieve in her prime, while trying to spare her from all the psychological hardship she had to go through, cause new times, new ways and all that jazz
some high dancing tournaments and championships with healthy dose of solo acts and dances that call for partnering up with ace of everything Loid of all people (que some stuttering mess from both side for different reasons in turns)
a bit of frenemy bonding with Fiona over being overachievers and exceptional in different parts. a lot of jealousy form Fiona cause even if firstly Yor was more on the brute strength of movements (even though that was suggestively captivating in itself) she has an easier time charming the audience, while Yor envies Fiona's confidence and pokerface.
a tiny bit of envy from the ever perfect Loid as well cause the treatment Yor gets from her teacher/mentor is something he wished for a long time (even though he should have just asked Sylvia to lighten up a bit)
slow burn kinda cause it's more on the relationship of mentor/student focus (plenty angst with the old methods vs. the wish to make something spectecular, the usual unsure Yor sheningans and Loid being a bit on the 'welp, i'm plenty used to being the best don't wanna start learning to be second now- ah well' )
aiming for happy end, if not a bit bittersweet ending.
Oh and Frankie is there as well. pretty good dancer if a bit too goofy but sticks to stagehand and lights/music work around practice and championships. Gets plety of fun out of seeing Loid stumble around Yor as well as trying to get Fiona to lighten up if only a little.
Yuri also working stagehand/technitian cause he loves to see his sister shine. and if he can help put the spotlight on her (literally) he's happy and feels more accomplished than ever. (actually pretty talented dancer himself but thinks the only one deserving to be on stage is Yor - a lot of possible arguing with Fiona, and plenty opportunity for a bit of 'maybe someone else can get a chance to be in the spotlight-NOT! ONLY SISTER' side comedy)
Anya and Bond are probably on Loid and Sylvia's side of the story. not really sure what to do about them but they are there for support fluff and chaos.

Anyway spy x family chapter 65 spoilers

This made me laugh the most 😂. The store lady didn't even question the fact that Yor said "weapons". To be fair an eyeliner can be a weapon if used correctly.
Tumblr media
These stairs are really confusing me

Our girl Yor shot that ball into space lol

I KNEW SHE LOOKED FAMILIAR. Though I thought she would be Becky's mom lol. Hopefully, she is nice Yor needs good friends.

My take on Melinda in the new chapter:
Tumblr media
So, from what we know about Melinda so far, her dichotomous feelings for Damian stem from her loving him as her son and hating him as Donovan's son. She seems to feel deep hatred towards her husband, and it spills over towards her son(s?).
And I feel like Melinda is genuinely happy that Damian is making friends and getting a social support system outside of his father's influence. She wants Damian to stop obsessing over getting his father's approval and turn more and more similar to the man she despises.
I have the feeling that Demetrius did not turn out the way she wanted, and is following his father's path. With Damian, she sees a chance, because he is becoming friends with a little "peasant" girl at school.
This also gives me hope that if Damian does stop trying to win Donovan's approval so hard, and continues growing into a different direction from the path his father has set for him due to the emotional support system he's building at school with his classmates and teachers... that there might be a chance for the relationship between Damian and his mother to improve.

Some high schools were slower than others when it came to the reintroduction of corporal punishment for girls aged 18 and over. So many high school teachers reached an ad hoc arrangement with their senior schoolgirls which allowed them to make use of corporal punishment in the interim, until their school board made it official. Until then, disciplinary implements could not be used, so teachers were limited to over the knee spankings which could be given in private areas, such as the basement store-room, as shown in the case above.
18 year old Melinda had failed to meet an assignment deadline and so was offered the choice of detention or a spanking. Like many 18 year old girls, Melinda had a very busy social schedule, so she had no hesitation in opting for the spanking and she did not regret that decision - even though she found herself over his knee with her panties down and that spanking seemed to last forever, as the sound of the smacks echoed loudly all around the walls of the store-room!

My 2 cents on the plot / thematic relevance of Ch 95
This is not about advancing Plot B or showing Anya's school life (which is still true but has been discussed), but rather the overall theme of education and war. There was an excellent post about how Eden is at the frontline of the cold war and it is subtly shown through the innocent lens of the first graders (I can't find it now, would link it if I could). And I think that perfectly applies to Ch 95.
Quick recap on some references about education/students/war throughout the series (that I remember at the moment):
Sylvia gravely condemning the Berlint University Student Terrorists during the Doggy Crisis arc (Ch 20) and saying "did you learn nothing about war at your university?"
Henderson talking about his experience as a history teacher (Ch 27.5, Short Mission 4) and quote: "Yes, well, I have always maintained that there is nothing to be learned from the memorization of time lines. From the grand efforts with which our forefathers crafted society to the foolish notions that sent them racing to war, to not study the human element at history's root is to not understand history at all"
Note that Damian's best subject has been established to be history, and his family (father) has been involved in war, at least Donovan was PM during most of the war (established by Melinda in Ch 91). Donovan is also a graduated Imperial Scholar (Ch 64).
The Red Circus group started out as a peaceful student demonstration "advocating for peace and quality" (Ch 72) and "speaking out to protect the weakest members of our society". And Billy Squire said, "We were a respectable movement that fought for our cause with respectable means. It was the state that turned violent against us. So I'm not taking criticism from a member of the establishment (referring to Henderson, an educator). I'm gonna see to it that they reap what they've sown." Billy's daughter Biddy was killed by the state at a protest.
Less of a point, but Becky is the daughter of the CEO of a major military manufacturer. Despite their very likely involvement in military conflicts because they sell arms, the Blackbell cohort has been depicted positively so far: Becky being a kind, wonderful friend to Anya, Becky's father doting on her, and Martha again being kind and dignified (and also being an ex-soldier and acquainted with Henderson).
Eden Academy is a major setting for SxF and the themes of politics, education, and war are embedded in it. The students involved in protests/groups are older (the university students, Billy's daughter), but the political implications remain even among the youngest of the students— the first graders.
Hence, Ch 95. When mere first graders are shown to fight to gain connections, which can be political as pointed out by Henderson: "In the world of politics, dances serve as major social events". But of course, they are kids, so they see it more playfully and innocently, especially Becky with her shipper lens on.
Of course, there is also the aspect of getting to know other people better out of interest (the boys asking Anya and Becky to dance because they were impressed after the bus hijacking). But as people have mentioned, nobody mentions this to Damian despite him being equally involved in saving the class (all three of them got a star). The girls aren't interested in Damian as a person, they're interested in him as an asset because of his family and their power.
And I can see the teachers trying to diffuse the tension and create camaraderie with their friendly competition. To me, this reads as the teachers fully realizing "the battlefield of political maneuvering", and they want to remind the kids to have fun, to show good sportsmanship, to unite the kids, to operate as a class and be friendly with one another, and overall make it more lighthearted. It's nice to see the classes work together and get excited / win as a unit, especially compared to the more "individual" bits of fighting for a dance partner later.
We get a bit of comparison between Bill and Damian, with Bill showing good sportsmanship while Damian scoffs at him. But Damian ends up becoming ultra competitive and telling his classmates to not screw it up.
Like the Dodgeball chapter, Damian is clumsily attempting to lead the class by doing good in his quiz, while getting stressed and yelling at his peers when they don't succeed like he did. So he's not really a good leader. Like how him being good at history does not necessarily mean he is good at being peaceful (Short Mission 4 ends with Henderson staring in exasperation at Damian + Anya bickering with each other). But obviously, he is merely a child, and he is naturally immature.
At first Loid is all for advancing Plan B and analysed Anya's suitors in a rational (reductionist?) way by ranking them in terms of gaining intelligence, but he remembers this is just a dance, Anya is a kid, and she should do whatever she wants. Loid (and the adults) are very aware of the political side of the gala, but ultimately they want the kids to have fun and not worry / worry less about politics.
Because they're kids! They'll grow up and learn more and be politically active later, but right now, they're just kids. Kids who don't know much about the world but are eager to make the world a better place.
In the end, we get a panel of Anya and Loid "teaming up" to win Damian's hand for Plan B / world peace. The Damian-Anya dynamic is cushioned with the silly crushy feelings, but underneath it, Operation Strix continues to be a core motivation.
I find it interesting that Endo chooses to focus on the first graders and their innocent view of the world / politics. It's embedded everywhere and especially in a prominent school like Eden, but the kids don't really realise it / realise the severity of it. Heirs and heiresses are educated at Eden and grow up to have incredible influence and the power to shape the world. Our protagonist's best friend comes from a family that manufactures arms. Henderson mentions the importance of learning history to avoid making the same mistakes (ie. war).
So Ch 95 is a cute prom chapter. But I think it also helps to show the themes underneath the fun, bubbly interactions.

Was at a school and the teacher brought in a plastic skeleton and asked me to take a picture of him so he'd bg et his own picture in the yearbook.
Skeleton's name is Harry.
Teacher then says 'I have two skeletons out in my yard reading a book together. The 12 foot ones. Wanna see them'
Holy fuck I do.
She scrolls through her photos and shows me also a pair of regular size skeletons on her back porch. 'This is Melinda and Norman. They're 9.'
As if she was showing me pictures of her kids. Like... love that energy.

About Melinda, ch 77 and abuse.
I can't throw from my head ch 77, we know how Endo loves adding pieces of information before the main arc (just remember extras about Anya's secrets and mentions about Red Circus), so:
In this chapter we can see Loid as a psychiatrist and his patient-Eden's teacher, who suffered from hijacking and.. his wife. Abusive wife. I thought that it would be about PTSD due to abusive relationships, but not, as I understand it was heavy trauma, camouflaging as a stress after a hijacking. So, I suppose that we will see Melinda in front of Loid in the near future. Maybe after some incident or Yor's recommendation she will try to get help. For me the most interesting thing would be the way Loid will try to help her, cuz tbh his advice wouldn't work in deep abuse (when Melinda and Demetrius can't even stand Donovan's mention, she starts to rip between love and hate, he tries to cut off any conservations about father). Perhaps the conclusion will be that we can’t save everything and sometimes we just need to separate (in their case, a genuine divorce). Also, some detail:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Damian, who doesn't have close connection with his family, reacted really fast, he started to apologize for asking some attention. I can't imagine how Melinda would react to this shit, when she was boiling in it for about 13-15 years.
Also about Demetrius, maybe we will see him, else I don't have any sense why Endo added this mark:
Tumblr media
Eventually, it was my odd theory about major meaning this chapter, but I also want to say that it's so sad seeing people in commentaries, who are laughing about teacher. It's not funny, it's violence, his wife literally told him to stay in hospital cuz she doesn't want to see him, SHE MOVED THE ONION ACROSS HIS EYES. my god. Will be something more harsh in Melinda's experience? I hope not
well, that's all, thank you for your attention

Yor and Loid attend a PTA meeting and the kids mingle amongst themselves.
Anya gets in trouble for making faces at some kids whose thoughts she overheard. The mothers of the kids take offense that a commoner dares ridicule their daughters and one woman raises her hand as if to slap Anya.
Two things happen at once.
Loid pulls Anya behind him protectively, intending to take the slap in her stead and socially adequately give a murder stare at the mom.
Yor was the one who grips the woman's wrist. The veins on her forehead and hand bulge. "What do you think you're doing to my daughter?!" Yor has the mother bear assassin stare on and she's gripping the woman's wrist so tightly her bones grind uncomfortably against each-other.
Every single parent and teacher in that room is shell-shocked, nobody dares to move to not invoke Mrs. Forger's wrath even further.
Somebody claps their hands together once, the sound travels through the room and passes into each person's spine like a lightning strike. "My, my, what's with this tense atmosphere?"
Melinda Desmond blinks at the scene before her, seeing her close friend Yor gripping another socialites wrist. "Yor? Did something happen?"
"This woman tried to hurt my child!" Yor never raised her voice at Melinda before, but Melinda recognized the pure rage in her friend's eyes, even if she didn't think she would ever witness it.
With a deceptively calm countenance, Melinda raised a hand to her face.
Loid blinked. 'She's... eerily calm. No...it's that she's calm. She's angry.'
The loud clicking of Mrs. Desmond's heels against the polished floors echoed in the room, her gaze resting heavily on the woman who tried to strike Anya.
Finally, Melinda stood face to face now, her expression unreadable as her cold voice sent shivers down everyone's spines. "Oh?" the woman jumped when Melinda drew closer. "Did she now?"

Parents Teachers meeting. The Forgers are mesmerizing everyone with their beauty and elegance and classmates tell Anya she’s adopted because she is not as pretty lmaooo. Dr Forger is now called Dr Love. Henderson is so happy to see Anya’s parents but act professional, Anya is doing great but still need improvement, he believes in her and thinks her last Toni is an accident. She’s very active the class’ life and contributes to most of the interactions between the students. Her taking naps during class won’t be tolerated next year so she needs to get a better sleeping schedule (she should take naps during breaks). Yor promises to teach a better sleeping schedule to Anya. He and Loid agrees that she is very good in Classical Language and asks her if she should join an extra class on this subject so she can get better grades. She says no because she doesn’t want to study. Well, Anya survived her first year of school with an average grade of 60/100 and she can stay with her friends next year. 2 Stellas and 2 Toni.
Damian waits for house staff and he sees his classmates, his friends, Forehead girl and Stubby legs smiling with their parents as they are officially passing. He is uncomfortable and maybe a bit jealous because he did very well, he got 98/100 with honors, Two Stellas. But he is here, sitting alone in the hall. He pushed Emile and Ewen away because he didn’t want to feel excluded with their parents who might ask about his father. The sky is orange now and he hears Becky and Anya talking about their plans, like going to the Blackbell Mediterranean house for a week. Mr Blackbell and Mr Forger are busy men but Mrs Blackbell invites Mrs Forger to join her with the girls, the two families are getting along very well, apparently they are even going dinner after this and Anya and Becky will have a sleepover.
“Maybe her mom is really friends with my mom” he thinks.
Yor Forger suddenly approaches him and greets him, saying she knows Melinda was not able to come and if he has someone to take him to the meeting. Damian blushes and says the house staff is just late, very late. Loid Forger joins the conversation and smiles at Damian,
“We are not your parents but we know you take care of our daughter everyday so allow us to take you to the meeting. I don’t think the house staff will come, I remember you being alone during orientation. Plus my wife can contact your mother after the meeting, I’m sure Mr Henderson won’t mind. ”
“Pretty please Damian, it’s getting late you will catch a cold !”
“You can borrow my parents Sy-on boy don’t be shy.” Anya says with a cool pose while Becky is amazed by her attitude. There’s no way commoners are pitying him ! The scion of the Desmond family !
And this is how, Damian found himself between Loid and Yor who were amazed by his accomplishments. Henderson has this internal crying because the Forgers did THAT again. Henderson praises Damian for his academical success but wants him to be a kid and to enjoy life a bit more. He congratulates him of his efforts on managing his anger issues and patience with other classmates, especially a certain girl. He scolds him on the lack of sleep he inflicts on himself and hope he will have a better schedule next year.
“I admire your work ethic but you are allowed to relax and to have fun Damian.” Loid pats his head with a proud smile.
“You did amazing Dami-chan ! We need to celebrate it with a cake !” Yor hugs him like she hugs her daughter. She asks him to come over during the summer so he can play with Anya and they can celebrate their successful year with a lot of cakes.
“Thanks, Pops... and Moms.” He is red like a tomato but happier. Maybe commoners aren’t that bad, very clingy and overly affectionate but kind. Actually they are WAY TOO NICE.

By Melinda Butterfield
We aren’t alone in our struggle. Many other communities are being targeted. We have to work to create unity, solidarity, cooperation.
We are health care workers, service workers, teachers, tech workers, sex workers. We are Teamsters and Auto Workers, actors and writers, and all too often, underpaid and unemployed workers. We live the reality of intersectionality every day.
Standing up for trans people is an act of self-defense for all workers. An injury to one is an injury to all.

SPOILERS SXF CHAPTER 93 ❗❗❗
So, chapter 93. Starting with Anya scores...
THAT'S MY GIRL!!!! CONGRATULATIONS BABY!!! 🎉🎊🥳
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Let's take a moment to appreciate what a good and supportive friend Becky is too 💖)
As I expected Anya passed classical language (with a huge improvement!) but in the large, tedious walk on Hell that is school not everyone can get exceptional grades in every subject unless you're a Desmond apparently and Anya, as many people who preceded her and will come after her, failed math.
I have seen many people make theories about how certain older student who we shall discuss next could be her tutor. However, my theory is that she will receive help from Bill in the future
Tumblr media
It makes more sense: both already know each other, Anya has more chances of Bill accepting or suggesting to help her than the-one-I-shall-name-later and overall Bill seems more communicative and better at socialising and explaining himself. Let's not forget he received a stella in math after all. So for me Bill seems like the most plausible option (maybe we will get jealous Damian with this friendship?)
Back at the Forgers residence the Authens pay a visit to congratulate Anya as well. When I read Sigmund's sentence about how rewarding is to have a payment for your hard work my mind automatically thought "But sometimes no matter how hard you try you don't get a reward. Sometimes the result is just not worth the effort" (I think many people has a canon event that reveals them that, specially when you're in highschool, middle school or college)
And right after thinking that he agreed with me lol. My mind really anticipates things before finishing a panel
Tumblr media
Speaking of hard work and grades, I'm taking this chance to give my opinion: a system based on giving stars to those who have the highest grades while those who fail face the possibility of being expelled is awful. Not getting a star and comparing yourself to your peers already make horrors to your self esteem, imagine a child getting expelled for repeatedly fail a exam that may not be adapted to their needs (or getting many tonitrus for things your teachers disapprove of you but you didn't know it was wrong or for something about yourself you cannot control. For example a kid with ADHD unintentionally interrupting someone, disconnecting in the middle of a conversation or making noise with their leg when they stay still for too long. No need to go as far as talking about neurodivergent kids, look at that chapter where Anya got a tonitrus for not having a handkerchief. Who the fuck is punished for that when you're an adult anyway)
Enough of that, back to the chapter. Let's talk about what hyped me the most: Demetrius finally appearing on screen!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We already had crumbs of him before. Given Damian inferiority complex when comparing himself to him when he had talked about school and Twilight noticing his exams barely had any mistakes back in the chapter where Daybreak was welcomed to this world, him being a exceptional student when it comes to academics isn't surprising in the least.
Many say he's ugly and exactly like his father but I disagree. Donovan looks like a goddamn Frankenstein if Frankenstein was ugly, Demetrius take after his dead eyes look but he's pretty like Melinda. Not conventionally pretty like Damian or Melinda but kinda pretty. Like a zombie with sleep deprivation but in an endearing way. It's not his fault he's built like a Tim Burton or Don't Starve Together character... anyway I'm sure his appearance can grow up on you, hopefully (;´ ▾ `)
About the theories regarding this panel
Tumblr media
It may be true something's going on, maybe he was really experimented on... But I can't stop thinking he was in that very moment "No thoughts, head empty" mode
I mean, he looks like a walking corpse in dire need of a proper nap, can you blame him if his thoughts are mainly focused on studies when Donovan probably spent time with him only for the sake of producing a good grades, not independent thinking machine as his heir? "He watch him study all the time."
Tumblr media
I don't think it was necessary for a tragic incident to change Donovan and made him distant from his family. I suspect he has always been like that, perhaps even before having Demetrius, so it was less a traumatic big event and more the exhausting everyday life Demetrius has been having as far as he remembers of being supervised by his father in order to be the best at school and everything that turned him into the probably burnt out teenager he is.
Same with Melinda, being married to somebody you might not have even loved when you first got together, a man who doesn't try to understand others or seem capable of caring for anyone, a man who is not precisely publicly known for his kindness (remember Millie and Yor's boss when Donovan was brought up?)... Being married to that kind of person for years and then having kids with that person and have to keep being related to them for at least until your kids graduate sound like a miserable life indeed
The Desmond have a common theme going around that is understanding the world around them, or rather the lack of it. I can say for sure that Demetrius feeling overwhelmed simply with a bunch of kids and thinking he can't understand people have its roots in Donovan
Tumblr media Tumblr media
• For Donovan is his narrow minded belief that nobody can't understand — therefore neither trust — each other because people is different; and as long as that phrase of "two people can't think the same" lives to the reality it finds itself in reaching a common ground is impossible.
• Donovan influenced Demetrius. Perhaps Demetrius doesn't share his father belief and that's not why he can't understand others, maybe it is because he was possibly deprived of a normal childhood where he could socialise with others of his age without his father expectations onto him.
Many academic gifted children reach a part of their lives where their habit is to think inside the box of "Good grades is all I'm good at or all I should care about; good grades = doing fine; it's all about what you can prove to those who expect something from you, not what you can prove to yourself to make you feel satisfied and happy".
When people who raised you condition you to act, live and think the way they wanted you to do is difficult to break and separate yourself from that. Plus he's going through the middle school phase, from personal experience that makes you x10 times angsty and complicated to understand yourself, much less everyone else.
• With Damian it is less discussed and pointed out because he's been able to have a relatively normal —if anything very neglected — childhood up to this point. He has friends, he acts like a kid of his age, his life doesn't revolve around his grades all the time... But that's the bare minimum of what a good childhood should be like.
It may be because of his age, but he doesn't see the bigger picture of his family. He can't see what is wrong with them (yet) because in his eyes nothing is wrong. Sure, he feels lonely and works hard for his dad to notice him, but that happens in many families right? He's not even in denial, he doesn't phantom the idea that what his family is, how they behave towards each other or towards him, isn't normal.
Don't make me start with how his future plans is following Donovan's footsteps in politics because he's trying that hard to approach him. He works hard at school because in his mind being like Demetrius or how he believes Donovan wants him to be would bring them closer, receive an understanding relationship from his dad when we know there might not be genuine affection between them from Donovan's side to start with.
He's teaching himself that love is conditioned by your "worth" or by whether you get to the expectations your loved ones have. That reminds me of what Sigmund told Anya because it sounds like a foretelling of Damian's life: [...] And one day you'll experience the frustration of realizing that hard work is not always rewarded. He doesn't many things and his age may explain it but it doesn't justify, if he continues thinking like that he'll have his hopes crushed and may turn out like Demetrius.
• As for Melinda, is difficult to talk about the point she stands in the understanding theme. Unlike her family she does seem able to understand people, perhaps because she wasn't raised like her kids have been. She's aware that her husband party made a lot of damage to their country, she seems aware and attentive to what surrounds her.
I don't think she cannot be understanding or perceptive, I think it's the other way around: the people she's surrounded by cannot understand her. Neither Yor, Anya, Damian, surely Demetrius and Donovan neither, her "friends" of the association she's in... Not even us can't understand the reason why she's so conflictive about Damian yet.
In just one appearance Donovan made his belief clear, thus giving us an idea of what type of feelings he has towards Damian. We can get so much of his character as a person with one chapter, but Melinda has appeared more than him and her true self is unknown. Donovan is reserved in a physical way, he isolates himself by not going outside and socialising, but he's not against the idea of explaining a stranger his stance in life. Melinda surrounds herself of people and listens to them but she keeps to herself.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to see more of Demetrius and the Desmonds. Hope we get more screen time of them, unless Endo has decided to drop such episode only to give us a one-shot chapter next and not elaborate further before introducing a complete different arc 💦
Although with what we have I'm already bought and entertained enough. Our favorite family is great but hooray for secondary characters being given depth and spotlight in this manga 🥳
See you next chapter reaction! If I made another one after other 25 full moons. I'm probably forgetting to talk about something...Oh well

Melinda May vs. Susan Sto Helit
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Remember: don't vote on "who would win in a fight", but on "who, when given a task that fits her skillset and talents, would do that task better: more comprehensively, faster, with more pizzazz, with less collateral, etc."
Endorsements! "What is she good at?"
Melinda May, Marvel: #if I need a gun I will take one#c’mon it’s the Cavalry and though she hates it she can always be relied on to get the job done thank you tumblr user @galactic-pirates
Susan Sto Helit, Discworld: The granddaughter of Death and as such she inherited some of his traits while keeping her humanity. Very practical in her thinking, she is a highly regarded governess / teacher and quite competent with a fireplace poker

Anime only watchers and people who aren't caught up with the Manga, BEWARE... Cuz I'm about to discuss Spy X Family Mission 77... You have been warned...! 👌
[SPOILERS AHEAD FROM THIS POINT ON]
There was not a whole lot of things going on in this chapter this week, but there were some interesting bits of infomation that was presented to us... 🤔 So let's talk about it, shall we...? 😎
This chapter begins with one of the teachers at Eden Academy, particularly Mr. Thomas Austin, AKA: Mr. Tutor in residence...:
Tumblr media
Who seems to be having some nightmares about the Hijacking incident (which is very understandable... 😞) And remembers what Henderson told him in the last chapter:
Tumblr media
And so, he decided to give psychologist Loid Forger a visit...:
Tumblr media
After Loid and Mr. Austin talk for a bit, Mr. Austin shares what's been going with him:
Tumblr media
Twilight notices that something isn't quite right, so after they talk a little more, Loid ends their session for the day and tells Mr. Austin to meet up again next week... (Also, Fiona shows up for a bit... That little nut...!! 😌)
But in their next session, is where things get a bit more interesting...
Mr. Austin mentions that his yells at him a lot for the way he's been acting, so Twilight asks him about his wife, and well...:
Tumblr media
Which ultimately led to this...:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
HMMMMMMM...? 🤔
Mrs. Austin reminded of someone... In fact, two someones in particular...:
Tumblr media
Melinda and Donovan Desmond...!! 😱
Hell, Mr. Austin even mentions that his wife "only ever responds with a long sigh!" And who else has done something similar...?:
Tumblr media
NEED I GO ON?! ☝😤
And though this chapter ends on a happy note for Mr. Austin, by getting him to talk to his wife little by little... It doesn't change the fact that something very strange is going on here... 🤔
And that was Mission 77, an interesting chapter to say the least...! 😌 Not much happened this time around, except for the stuff about Mrs. Austin, which I wonder if it'll be brought back up again later...? 🤔 Maybe, maybe not... Who knows? 🤷 But, all I do know is that I'll be there when it does or doesn't happen...!! 😎👍
Well anyway, I'm sure someone else might figure out what might be going on here better than me, so guess I'll just say my goodbyes...!! 😁 Until the Mission, take care and be safe out there...!! Peace!! ✌😄
Also:
Tumblr media
This is the first time in a long time that I've seen Twilight sporting WISE's logo on his clothes again...!! 😲 That is all. Goodbye. 👋

Seasons Meetings
By Skyler10
Summary: Daisy brings her new girlfriend home to meet her parents, and Phil and Melinda are thrilled.
A/N: Wrote this on the plane home alone to a less accepting family and edited on the flight back, so I hope this helps all of us who have parents who wouldn't react in this welcoming of a way. *hugs
Read on Ao3
-----------------
Melinda May was in awe looking back at her past holiday family photos. She’d aged, despite her husband’s protests to the contrary. He had too, but gracefully, carrying the wisdom and laugh lines of experience, complimenting his gentle kindness. Their tiny baby transformed through each photo—first into a delightful and hyperactive little girl, then to an adorkable preteen, then to a depressed teenager with long hair dyed even blacker than her natural dark brown and with matching nails and thick eyeliner. She smiled, but it barely covered the truth. Those were rough years for them all.
But the photo tradition had continued. The longer Daisy was in college, the more she bloomed. She matured into a radiant young adult, if self-deprecating and with still a bit of that old insecurity when she ran into old classmates when home for the holidays. Former teachers and senseis and parents of friends asked every time when she was going to bring home a boyfriend, how she could possibly still be single, and didn’t she want to give her parents grandchildren?
Melinda always redirected the conversation, with a protective arm around her daughter’s shoulders. Both Melinda and Phil were quick to reassure Daisy that they were proud of her regardless of her relationship status or whether she ever had children. Daisy was grateful but said no more on the subject. She mentioned boyfriends here and there, and a girl or two, but none made it to Christmas or to meeting her parents. Melinda and Phil worried that Daisy's teen years were still haunting her all these years later.
In Daisy’s senior year of high school, she came out as bi to her parents in a tearful outpouring of secrets at the lowest point of her depression, but it proved to be a turning point. To Phil and Melinda, it was also a relief as it answered so many questions. It wasn’t just her ADHD, the high expectations on her as a tech genius, and the stress of moving away to college soon. She’d had her heart broken a year earlier by a girl who wasn’t ready to be out and denied they had ever had anything between them. The girl's friends shamed and bullied Daisy for months, but eased up over the summer and the fall semester. But as pressure mounted in the spring before graduation, Phil and Melinda found Daisy in her room crying so hard that dark streaks of mascara stained Phil’s shirt as he pulled her close. She’d been photographed flirting with another girl, and the photo had made its way around social media with meme text about sin and “confusion” in “our schools,” with the cyberbullying perpetuated by the girl from the previous year who had now joined an evangelical youth group.
No one could blame Daisy for staying away after high school graduation. She spent her summer breaks in impressive internships until one of those internships turned into a job at the end of those four years. But through university and now as a working professional, she always came home for Christmas.
This year, however, she wouldn’t be coming alone. She said she had a special guest, but she wanted it to be a surprise.
Melinda and Phil lit up when they saw their precious girl appear from the airport terminal. But the bombshell blonde with her made their smiles even bigger. The blonde caught Daisy’s scarf as it fell off and they stopped so she could wrap it back around Daisy’s neck. Daisy pecked a kiss to the blonde’s cheek and took her hand.
“Mystery solved then,” Phil quipped to Melinda. Melinda sent him an amused look of agreement before they waved to catch Daisy's attention.
After reunion hugs were exchanged, Daisy introduced them to the blonde who was politely waiting behind her.
“Okay, don't be weird,” Daisy warned, “but this is my girlfriend, Carol Danvers. Surprise! Carol, this is my mom and dad.”
Daisy's nervous smile told Melinda all she needed to know. Daisy was in love. This was no mere holiday invite because Carol didn't have plans. This was an official Meeting of the Parents.
“Wow, girlfriend, huh?” Phil stuck out his hand to shake Carol's. “I'm Phil.”
“We're so glad to meet you.” Melinda shook her hand next. “I'm Melinda.”
With this warm welcome, they walked together to the baggage claim.
“So this is the mysterious Carol,” Melinda began. “We've heard you've been spending time together…”
“… But we didn't know about the girlfriend part,” Phil finished.
Carol turned to Daisy in hesitation, “Wait, did they know before now that you're—”
“Oh! Yes.” “Old news.” “Yes!” The three hurried to answer.
“Just not that you two specifically were together in that way,” Phil explained his comment. “Carol, we can't wait to get to know you. We're really excited you're here.” Phil tried to rein in his enthusiasm to not embarrass Daisy, but Daisy and Melinda laughed at how obvious it was. Carol didn't, though. She seemed to relax.
“Thank you,” she said simply. Carol didn't hide it as well as Melinda did herself, but this girl clearly had some armor up. Melinda made it her mission to help Carol see her defenses were unnecessary here and that she was genuinely welcome.
“We weren't sure who this surprise guest would be so we made up the guest room,” Melinda explained. “But if you'd both be more comfortable staying in Daisy's room, that's fine too. Her bed is big enough for two.”
There, that was obviously supportive.
“Mom!!” Daisy groaned and blushed.
Phil shrugged. “This is our first time doing this. We don't know what you want.”
“Okayyyy,” Daisy turned to Carol, “now you see why I wanted it to be a surprise.”
Carol smiled at Daisy's childish embarrassment. “I think that's very kind. I'm okay with sharing if Daisy is.”
Daisy nodded and relaxed at how well this was going so far despite her anxieties, and Carol continued.
“Daisy told me it's the first time she's brought anyone home to meet you two. And she told me about all your Christmas traditions.”
Phil offered, “Do you have any of your family's that you would want to do while you're here, Carol? And are they okay with you being with us instead of with them this year?”
Carol exhaled heavily and looked to the still-quiet baggage carousel. “Yeah, they … will be fine.”
Daisy filled in, “Carol and her parents don't really get along.”
Ah.
Phil and Melinda nodded in understanding, and Phil offered, “Well, you're always welcome with us.”
He wanted to hug Carol, Melinda could tell, but the bags started to arrive. He was always finding young people in need of a mentor or father figure and helping them believe in themselves, whatever path lay ahead of them.
With their luggage acquired, they were ready to start their holiday. The four ventured out of the airport for a first Christmas together that they would each treasure for the rest of their lives, despite all of the awkward moments and hard conversations—and the heartbreaking realization that Carol had been worried about Phil and Melinda’s reaction to Daisy bringing home a woman. But Carol's courage and love had shown through, even in that misplaced fear, by being willing to come home with Daisy anyway. Which, of course, only endeared her to them more.
Even that same Christmas, after dropping the two young lovebirds back at the airport, Phil and Melinda mentioned it as soon as they were alone in the SUV. There was mutual agreement that this was The One for Daisy, but also that Carol clearly felt the same. She was the only person who could be worthy of their daughter, from the way Carol adored Daisy to the way she always looked out for Daisy's best, from that scarf in the first moment they saw her to handling Daisy's luggage with care when unloading at the dropoff on the way back.
“That girl’s going to be our daughter-in-law someday,” Melinda had remarked as they watched Carol disappear with Daisy through the airport sliding doors.
“You okay with that?” Phil asked just to be sure.
“Definitely. And you know I wouldn't say that about anybody else.” Melinda raised an eyebrow pointedly. “You?”
“Me too.” Phil smiled and pulled the SUV away from the curb and into an opening in the airport traffic. “One week and we already feel like a family of four.”
“People always asked me if we'd regret not having more kids,” Melinda confessed. “But I think this was the one we were waiting for. Not a sister for Daisy but a wife.”
Phil recounted this story as the father of the bride a year and a half later, in their wedding toast.
