Batman and Superman’s interactions in canon would go something like this:
Superman *reached his limit of cryptic and crazy bat shenanigans* : Bruce.. this is insane and you know it.
Batman: I don’t know what you mean Clark this is a perfectly normal response
Superman: Says the guy so in self denial he can’t realise that he’s projecting on a super villain
Batman *turning around and levering a glare that could freeze the sun*: .. I beg your pardon Clark?
Superman *maintaining eye contact* : Then beg.

🎶 Listen To: Hello by Seventeen 🎶
BS: The Return of Superman Idol Edition.
LM: Episode 1 “Today is a New Day”. It’s a sunny summer morning in August, today we are meeting our newest superman.
BS: First let’s take a look at the spacious, simple interior of the house. The toys seem to be neatly put away into cubbies and draws.
LM: Let see who lives here. Two boys have woken up, one diligently brushes his pearly white teeth while the other carefully washes his face.
BS: Ah! No way! Looks like we have a set of identical twins in this Superman household. Both look too old to be playing with the toys in the living room.
LM: The lights have turned on in another room. It looks like the mother has walked into a room with two beds in them.
You look into your Youngest twins room, careful to not show your face to the cameras quite yet, and see if they have gotten up already.
Chuckling to yourself as the two boys are sprawled out the same way in each bed. You carefully remove the blanket from the first before leaning over to kiss Seungjun’s exposed forehead.
You whisper a good morning before making your way towards the Seungjae’s bed repeating the same action, opening the blinds, and making your way to the kitchen.
LM: This Supermom sure has her handful with two pairs of boys. These too seem to appear much younger than the other two.
BS: Wah! Kids are always so cute when they wake up in the morning, these twins take the cake as being the cutest. Who could these beautiful boys parents be?
You open the fridge grabbing seaweed, premade stock, tofu, fish, eggs, carrots and green onions. You take a pot to the stove quickly bring the stock to a boil.
You open the smoker close to the oven, carefully taking the fish out.
Pulling a bowl from the dishwasher, your crack a couple of eggs into a bowl, throwing in some carrots and green onions you diced earlier.
You carefully poor in the mixture into a lightly oiled pan, occasionally checking the soup boiling beside it.
LM: This person is so kind and hard-working, she kisses her kids in the morning, prepares breakfast and has even had time to wash some dishes left in the sink. A true supermom.
Your two older sons come in quietly, admiring the way you work before Baekyeon opens his mouth to speak. “Do you need help Eomma?”
Smiling kindly to both of them, asking if they could help wake up their dad and younger siblings while you go and set the table for breakfast. They both nod, before doing as they’re told.
BS: This supersized family seems to gather around the dining room table most often. Oh! Do my eyes deceive me is that a high chair and dog bowls near the fridge?
Making your way over to the fridge, you bend down to pick up one of the empty dog food bowls before making your way to the cabinet under the sink.
Opening a large pet food storage container you scoop dog food into the bowl, shaking it loudly as you put it back down.
“Bomi!”, you call out loudly. The sound of paws could be heard against your tile floors as the family's dog, a Malamute Husky makes its way into the kitchen.
Without hesitation, she sits patiently near her bowl waiting for you to give her a command to eat. With a slight nod of your head, she devours the food happily.
“Jagiya,” Your husband calls sweetly to you in his deep morning voice, you dry off your hands on a nearby kitchen towel before making your way towards the master bedroom.
When you turn around, the cameras immediately catch the view of your face.
BS: No way! It’s renowned Chef, restaurant owner and part-time host of “Take Care of My Fridge Korea”, Choi Y/N.
You return from the bedroom carrying the youngest member of your family as your husband struggles from behind you, carrying the youngest twins in either arm.
BS: That means her husband is none other than Seventeen’s leader SCoups
Tumblr media
“Hello, my name is Choi Baekhyeon, I am 9 years old.”
“I’m Choi Jihyeon and I’m his twin brother, it’s very nice to meet you.” The two eldest bow respectfully towards the camera before bringing out their younger siblings.
“These are our younger brothers Seungjae, and Seungjun. How old are you guys?” Jihyeon asks, getting down to their level when he speaks.
“We’re 5” Seungjae cheekily escapes his brother moving up close to the camera.
Seungjun follows after him, before tugging him back towards Seungcheol’s lap. “No Jae, we’re 6 now.”
‘Oh yeah, you’re right.” Seungjae laughs. Seungcheol can’t help but chuckle at them before ruffling their hair.
“Hello, I’m Choi Seungcheol,” he struggles to speak comfortably as the younger twins decide to sit on either side of his leg.
“Hello, I’m Seungcheol’s wife Choi Y/N, and this is our Maknae Choi Aecha.” You bow towards the camera, and Aecha who sits comfortably in your lap follows.
Choi Seungcheol is leader of one of the top 3rd generation idol groups while his wife is a famous Michelin star chef. The pair met at a recording of “Take Care of My Fridge”. After 4 years of dating, they got married spring of 20XX. Almost a year later their first twins, Baekhyeon and Jihyeon, were born.
What were your first impressions of each other?”
“She was my celebrity crush and I was hers but we never had a chance to talk to each other until my members Joshua, Mingyu and I were guests on “Take Care of My Fridge”
“He was quick to introduce himself and the other members when we met each other in the hallway of the studio. Right there and then I could tell he was the leader type, someone you could depend on. That was always something I wanted in my significant other.”
“In reality, I was trying to hide the fact I was shaking of nervousness and sweating bullets.”
“Really?”
“I thought you were out of my league, besides you were known to be cute and kind while your costars and other guests were scared of me.”
“You’re not scary, you’re a big old teddy bear.”
“When did you realize you two wanted to get married?”
“It was after we adopted our dog Bomi from the shelter and I came home late from the studio. Just seeing her on the couch with Bomi passed out after waiting for me to come home, and dinner laid out on the table for me is when I knew I wanted to be with her the rest of my life.”
“I realized he was the one when he was watching me compete in a famous food competition that I was preparing for and in the end, I came in 2nd place. I was beyond upset with myself knowing that I could’ve done better, but rather than allowing me to beat myself up over it, he surprised me with a trophy case with all my accomplishments in our apartment. He made me realize I shouldn’t focus on what I can’t do but what I can.”
Did you guys plan to have this big of a family?”
“Seungcheol and I always knew we wanted a big family, it was one of the things we talked about when we first started dating. After we found we were having BaekHyeon and Jihyeon we realized the house was going to be hectic, so we put that dream on pause.”
“Three years passed and we realized that we still felt like we were missing a piece of our family. We both really wanted to have a girl so we decided to try again.”
“To our surprise, we were expecting another set of twins.”
“We love our boys with all our hearts, but even after the younger twins began growing more independently, we began to miss the fresh baby and wanted to try for a girl.”
“After waiting for so long we finally had our little princess Aecha, and it was like all the pieces fell into place for our little family.”
What can viewers look forward to with your family?”
“Beak and Ji are older and busy with school so they won’t be on screen often, however, I hope my time watching Seungjae, Seungjun and Aecha will put a smile on your faces.
BS: Looks like Y/N is off to drop the oldest twins at school before she heads to her first day back at work after maternity leave. Awe, so sweet, she can’t leave without a kiss from her kids and husband.
LM: It is always difficult returning back to work after spending such a long time with your kids. Let’s hope Seungcheol can handle taking care of the little ones all by himself.

prompt:  You'll write for 9-1-1? *heart eyes* If this prompt ever speaks to you, I'd love to see Buck just throwing himself into work after he gets back onto the squad, trying to prove himself, and just burning himself out either into total exhaustion or just a really bad illness and either collapsing or ending up with a really bad fever. Maybe Eddie tries to tell him to take it easy, and then watches as Buck completely ignores the advice?
First fic for 9-1-1!
Set when Buck is back after all the lawyer BS that we don’t talk about and when everyone is okay with him again.
Eddie’s slipping his boots on, working in time with the loud alarm ringing overhead, yet his focus is pulled toward Buck, or rather, the slight tremble of Buck’s hands as the latter works into his own gear.
Buck’s been back for a few weeks now, the initial tension has faded away to their familiar routine, and he’s been diving headfirst into his work, taking each call with an almost desperate passion that’s got Eddie worried, to say the least.
He’s called Buck out after two days of Buck working himself into the ground, and Buck fought against his concern then, telling him he has to make up for lost time, to prove himself to Bobby, to make things right again,
Well, Eddie thinks as he gets to his feet, things have been right, and he’s frankly concerned that Buck’s going to drop. He’s tired of watching Buck act like this. “Hey, Buck? You okay?”
Buck turns to him, and despite his poor pallor, despite the small red flush to his cheeks, he smiles wide, energy pouring from his eyes, threatening to suck Eddie in if he stares too long. “Yeah, man! I’m just ready to get out there!”
Eddie casts a long gaze back to Buck’s hands, frowning deeply at the trembling. “Yeah,” he draws out, almost distracted, “just... take it easy, okay? You don’t look so hot.” He pulls his gaze back to Buck’s, eyes rolling on instinct at the devious grin that creeps at Buck’s lips.
“I thought you said I always look hot.”
Eddie turns toward the door with a deep sigh, Buck hot on his his heels. “That was one time, and I only said it because you were literally drowning in your own pity at the hospital.” Buck claps a hand to his shoulder, falling into pace with him, and he cocks a brow.
“Yeah,” he starts, leaning forward, “but you still said it.”
Eddie slaps Buck’s hand away, ignoring the loud laughter that follows, and he hoists himself up into the firetruck, slipping his headset on and listening as Bobby barks out the situation.
It’s a house fire, a two story house fire to be specific, and Eddie and Buck are ordered to enter and rescue when they arrive after the wife of the house informs through gasping sobs and coughs that her son is trapped on the second floor with her husband. For a brief moment, Eddie considers asking Bobby if he can go about the rescue alone, but Buck’s already slamming a ladder against the side of the house and racing up it with impressive speed. Bobby looks at him, eyes narrow, stern, yet patient, but Eddie only breaks the gaze and starts up the ladder after Buck.
“Move away from the window!”
Eddie looks up, only a few rungs behind Buck, to see Buck waving to the father and son, and once their clear, he lifts his arm, preparing to swing his elbow against the window.
“Buck, wait!”
“Now’s not really a good time, Eddie!”
Eddie closes the distance, and it takes some careful maneuvering until he’s got one foot planted on the same run Buck’s standing on, and he’s pulling himself up until he’s level with Buck. “The blood thinners, Buck. What if you cut yourself?” He keeps his gaze sharp, unyielding, and Buck gives in with a wave of the hand.
“Fine, Superman, have at it.”
Eddie slams his elbow into the window until the glass cracks and breaks against the force, and he’s quick but careful to make sure there’s no jagged shards sticking out. Buck’s got one hand on a rung above them and the other wrapped around Eddie’s waist to keep him steady, and the second the last of the glass hits the floor and they’re hit with waves of smoke, they fall into quick action.
Eddie enters the room first with Buck close behind. The two do a quick survey of their surroundings, gauging how long they have, before they move to the victims.
“Is anyone hurt?”
“I have some burns on my arm, but otherwise, we’re okay.”
Eddie’s eyes find the burns on the man’s arm, frowning at the black and red strips of burned skin, but then Buck’s moving past him to the kid.
“Eddie, we’re running out of time. We gotta move.”
He nods, watching as Buck crouches down in front of the kid, and he doesn’t miss the way Buck staggers faintly, briefly, for just a breath of a moment, one hand reaching out to the floor to steady himself.
“What’s your name?”
“Buck,” Eddie interrupts and starts toward him, “let me carry him--”
“--I’ve got this, Eddie! Help the father!”
Eddie watches as the kid, Benjamin, puts all of his trust into Buck and climbs onto Buck’s back, and he keeps his focus heavy on the two as Buck quickly gets to his feet, the unsteadiness from before replaced with quick determination.
“Eddie, let’s go!”
Buck’s voice snaps him out of his brief trance, and he nods and turns back toward the father. “Can you climb down a ladder with that arm?”
The father nods, and Eddie decides to go with is gut and not question the shaky hesitation in the father’s movements. He urges the father onto the ladder with a promise that everything will be fine, and then he starts down the ladder himself. He’s six rungs down when a loud explosion erupts from the open window. Buck was right, he thinks. They were definitely cutting it close with this one.
With the family safe, Bobby urges Eddie and Buck to get checked out right quick for potential smoke inhalation, but Buck declines, slapping a hand to Bobby’s shoulder.
“I’m good, Cap.” He shoots a smile to Eddie and Bobby, his face sporting a few smoke smudges, and Eddie’s gut twists uncomfortably, but he still nods, going along with Buck’s mood.
“Same, Cap. We weren’t in there long.” He wants to press Bobby, to have Bobby force Buck to get checked out because Eddie just knows something’s wrong with him, but Buck’s acting normal, as if his hands weren’t shaking before, as if he didn’t slightly stagger a few minutes ago, so he drops it, and Bobby doesn’t press either further.
“Fine, but I’m only saying fine because I’m exhausted, and because I know you both know to get checked out if you need it.” Bobby’s eyes linger on Buck, and Buck nods, almost eagerly, and offers a mock salute.
“Of course, Cap!” Buck starts back to the truck, and Eddie and Bobby follow, watching as Buck talks animatedly with Chimney and Hen.
“He seems to be doing a lot better,” Bobby’s comment sounds sincere to Eddie, fond even, and Eddie offers a quiet hum.
“I don’t know, Bobby. Don’t you think he’s pushing himself a little too hard?”
Bobby claps a hand to Eddie’s shoulder, a soft smile pulling at his lips. “It’s Buck. He doesn’t know how to pace himself.”
Bobby’s words don’t exactly ease Eddie’s concern, and the worry that’s forming a pit in his stomach remains on the ride back to the station, only growing despite Buck’s seemingly normal demeanor.
“Hey,” he starts as he and Buck are changing for the day. “Why don’t you come over? Christopher is dying to see you.” It’s not a lie exactly, but it’s not the entire truth either. Eddie wants to keep an eye on Buck, if only just for a little bit, just to see if Buck is really okay or not.
Eddie picks up on Buck’s hesitation by the slight tension in Buck’s shoulders, but then Buck grabs his bag off the floor and shoots a wide smile.
“Sure, man! I’d love to see Christopher!”
They go back in Eddie’s truck, leaving Buck’s jeep at the station, and Eddie’s hyper-focused on how Buck can’t seem to sit still, crossing and uncrossing his arms every few seconds, how Buck’s clearing his throat a lot, how Buck will occasionally reach up to rub at his temples.
When they get to Eddie’s abulea’s house to pick up Christopher, Eddie puts the truck in park, but he makes no motion to get out. He turns to Buck, who’s frowning questioningly at him.
“What’s up, man?”
“Are you okay?” It’s the second time today he’s asked this, and to his surprise, Buck’s smile is softer, tired, but still there.
“Yeah, I’m all good. Just pretty tired.”
Eddie’s about to reassure that he’ll make sure Christopher doesn’t keep him up too late, but his thoughts clip off when he hears Christopher yelling for him. He pulls his gaze from Buck to see his abuela helping Christopher down the steps, and he hops out of the truck and rushes too him, chasing the fond relief that swells in his chest every night when he gets to pick up his kid.
“Chris! Hey, bud!” He scoops him up into a hug while offering his thanks to his abuela.
“Is that Buck?” Christopher is looking over Eddie’s shoulder to the truck. “Is he going to hang out with me?”
“He sure is!” Eddie takes him to the truck and gets him settled into the back seat with Chris gushing to Buck about all of the cool and fun things they are going to do tonight the entire time.
The ride back to his house is similar, with Buck and Christopher chatting the whole way. Eddie’s impressed with Buck’s ability to mask his fatigue in front of Christopher, and he stays impressed when they get to his house and get inside and when Christopher pulls Buck to the living room TV to play some games.
“Not too long, Chris,” Eddie starts, leaning against the wall as Buck sets up a game. “Buck’s pretty tired, and you have school tomorrow.”
Christopher smiles at him. “Just a few games,” he promises, and Eddie finds Buck’s gaze, the two sharing a silent conversation, before he nods and leaves to clean up the kitchen.
He’s moved onto Christopher’s room, gathering dirty laundry, when he hears a loud thud. He freezes, heart fluttering to stop, but then he hears Christopher’s voice, a crying shout of desperation.
“Buck!”
His heartbeat comes back hard and fast, hammering against his rib cage almost painfully, and he drops the piles of clothes in his arms and races out of Christopher’s room, whipping down the small hallway until he’s skidding into the living room.
Buck’s unconscious on the floor, a pile of games fallen to the floor close to his hand, and Christopher’s crying and stumbling toward him.
“I just asked if we could change the game,” Christopher cries. “And he just fell!”
Eddie allows himself exactly four seconds of pure panic before he drops to the floor beside Buck, swapping into medical mode within the blink of an eye. His hand flies to Buck’s neck to check for a pulse, and it’s there, thankfully, but it’s racing, quick, fluttering heartbeats against his fingertips, but more concerning is the almost burning heat that coats his fingers. Frowning, he moves his hand to Buck’s forehead, and the heat that coats his palm is alarming. His cool touch brings Buck back, and Eddie swallows back the lump in his throat.
“Hey, Buck, can you hear me?”
Buck groans, his flushed, sweaty face pinched in discomfort, but his eyes don’t open, and Eddie’s muscles tense under a weight of desperation.
“Evan,” he pushes, lightly slapping Buck’s cheek, and Buck’s eyes finally flutter open, crystal blue eyes glassy and colored in confusion.
“...Eddie?” Buck’s voice sounds rough, pained, and the small usage is enough to have him coughing harshly.
Eddie helps him into a sitting position, assessing the back of Buck’s head the entire way up. There doesn’t appear to be any further injuries, so that’s one less thing to worry about for now.
“Buck! Buck! Buck!”
Christopher’s sobbing beside them, and before Eddie can even begin to reassure him, Buck’s calling out in between ragged coughs.
“It’s okay... Chris... I’m... totally...” he pauses, his coughing dying down, “fine!” He forces a smile that’s so wide, it’s believable, and Christopher’s sobbing fades to light sniffling.
“You promise?”
Christopher’s small words grip at Eddie’s heart, so he can only imagine how Buck’s taking it, but Buck smiles impossibly wider, so genuine that almost Eddie believes it, and he makes to get to his feet. Eddie wants to protest, but he understands, so he helps Buck up, keeping a steady arm around his waist, and Buck throws both arms out.
“I promise!”
Christopher seems hesitant to accept it, but he does, and Eddie makes quick work of guiding Buck to the couch and getting Christopher ready for bed. He’s tucking Christopher in when the latter blinks up at him, eyes still wet.
“Is Buck really okay?”
Eddie doesn’t know. The fever feels bad, potentially hospital level bad, and he doesn’t want to lie to his son, but he also doesn’t want Christopher to fall into a second meltdown.
“He will be,” he opts for. “He’s just a little sick, and you can help him get better by getting a full night’s sleep so he doesn’t stay up worrying about you. Okay?”
Christopher’s a helper by nature, so he quickly obliges, squeezing his eyes shut. Eddie drops a light kiss to his forehead before he quietly leaves the room. He doesn’t mean to storm into the living room, but he’s chasing a hot flash of anger that’s beating with his heart, so he does, stopping before the couch where Buck is wrapped up in a throw blanket, shaking and coughing lightly.
“What the fuck is wrong with you?” Eddie spits out, keeping his voice hushed but harsh. “You’ve been pushing yourself into the ground for weeks! I don’t get it! You don’t have to prove anything to anyone! We all know that you’re a good firefighter, Buck, but right now, you’re acting like a damn idiot who...”
His words fall short. Buck’s eyes are watering, and it hits Eddie’s heart like a repeated knife stab. He gently sits down on the edge of the coffee table, anger fading away to pulsing concern. “Talk to me, Evan.”
“I’m sorry,” Buck starts, voice cracking. “I just... feel like I have so much catching up to do.” He swallows back a small gasping sob as tears begin to spill down his burning cheeks. “I started feeling like shit about a week ago, but I couldn’t stop. I lost five months, Eddie, and I just... I needed to keep pushing through.” He’s crying fully now, shaking just as hard, looking down to the floor, and Eddie shakes his head and breathes out a trembling sigh.
“Hey,” he leans forward, wrapping careful fingers around Buck’s chin to guide his gaze back up to him. The heat somehow feels worse than before, but he needs to address one thing at a time. “It’s okay. Well, it’s not, but, listen, you don’t need to push through anything. We aren’t going to think any less of you if you have to take a break because you’re sick. You have to focus on you first.”
Buck nods, and Eddie makes a mental note to address this when Buck isn’t burning with fever, to make sure that Buck fully understand, and his face pulls into soft sympathy at Buck’s sniffling and shivering, at Buck trying to pull the small blanket tighter around his trembling shoulders.
“Let’s get you to bed--”
“--you don’t have to. Can you just drive me back to my jeep?”
Eddie’s gaze goes sharp, narrow. “No,” he says flatly, leaving no room for argument, and Buck doesn’t press further, a testament to how bad he must be truly feeling.
Eddie helps Buck to his room, helps him change into some of Eddie’s clothes, and gets him to take some Ibuprofen and water before lying down. Buck’s quietly compliant the entire time, and Eddie hates it. He wants to hear Buck’s snarky comments, Buck’s voice, just anything other than the quiet coughs.
He grabs the thermometer from the bathroom, and Buck doesn’t even try to fight him when he holds it up to him. The reading is bad, 103.8 degrees Fahrenheit, and Eddie has every instinct to wake Christopher up and drive their asses to the closest hospital, but Buck, despite his pounding head, can read Eddie’s features like an open book.
“No hospitals,” Buck says quietly.
“Buck,” Eddie starts, looking down at the reading again. “I don’t like this fever.”
“Me either,” Buck says, voicing his own concern for the first time, “but I’ve spent too much time in the hospital over the last few months, and I really don’t want to go back.”
“You have one day to get this fever down,” Eddie decides, hesitance coloring his tone, “one day, Buck, you hear me? If you’re this bad by tomorrow night, we’re going.”
“Got it,” Buck mutters before weakly grabbing at the blanket, tugging it up to his chin. “Shit,” he curses, shivering. “I’m freezing.”
Eddie bites back sarcasm because Buck looks generally miserable. Instead, he slips his shoes off and climbs into bed beside Buck.
“Eddie, what are you--”
“Roll onto your side,” Eddie orders quietly, and Buck complies, but he’s frowning the entire time.
Eddie presses his chest to Buck’s back and wraps a steady arm around him, pulling him close.
“Are you... are you spooning me?”
It’s the first time in an hour that Eddie’s heard Buck’s voice so clear, so animated, and he rolls his eyes. “Yes, but only for a little while because I don’t want you to overheat. Now shut up, and go to sleep.”

Do you think, that Wonder Woman trying to completely change Superman's life (giving up his secret identity) is a sign of a great relationship?
Wonder Woman never tried to change Superman’s life nor did she want him to give up anything. What she wanted was for him to be whole hearted honest and truthful within himself. She believed that he was hiding himself out of shame for who he was, an alien who happens to look human. Diana celebrates life in general and her culture. She isn’t the Goddess of Truth for nothing and there is a reason why Superman always confided in her most of all. Diana saw, embraced and accepted all of who Kal was before he could do that himself. She supported him and pushed him to not hold back.
Was it okay for him and Lois to have a relationship based on lies for more than 50 years and call that love? Clark was still hesitant to share things with her. They also lied to the pubic as reporters. Lois only married him once she knew he was Superman. Never ever did she just marry Clark Kent without ever knowing he was Superman. He lied to her for decades and he even tried to give up his powers, acted like not being human wasn’t acceptable and a burden for her. Clark also never goes ape shit crazy or evil if Diana died. So being with her never cripples him, unlike Lois. He is defined by needing to be romantically linked, sleep with only one human to stay supposedly true to himself than being a noble moral man. That is complete BS. That is not a relationship that is admirable. It’s dysfunctional and character assassination.
As far as I know, for most of their incarnations, Clark never lied to Diana and Diana never treated Clark Kent like shit. Diana learned why the secret identity was important to Clark and she then adopted her own as Diana Prince. Clark learned how to be more honest, open and confident, not so strict on privacy and whine because he isn’t in his comfort zone. It’s called having balance, communication, understanding, and growth in a relationship, learning together. Being 100 with the person you are in a relationship with but also most importantly, with and within yourself from jump is what makes a great relationship.

Japanator’s Anime Binge Log: Goblin Slayer
Killin’ Goblins in the Name Of
It’s time again for your semi-regular look at the season’s best and brightest anime! Welcome once more to Japanator’s Anime Binge Log! Last time we took a look at the latest chapter of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, a show that, while not universally-liked, is almost universally respected.
This installment goes a bit deeper into the weeds with a show that managed to alienate a good chunk of its audience from the get-go: Goblin Slayer. Studio White Fox’s adaptation of the hit novel/manga stirred up a hornet’s nest of discourse with a divisive first episode, but what’s the verdict, now that about half its cour is over? That’s the question we posed to the staff and a couple of us deigned to answer!
If you’ve got a suggestion for the show to cover in our next Binge Log, don’t hesitate to tell us in the comments!

Goblin Slayer Studio: White Fox Director: Takaharu Ozaki Airdate: October 5, 2018 Watch it On: Crunchyroll The Blurb: Need some goblins slain? Give this dude a call.
Staff Impressions:
Marcel Hoang
Oh boy, here I go with Goblin Slayer, one of my soft recommendations of the season. This is the series where I say I like it and when people ask me if they should watch it, I say, “Yes asterisk,” because I verbalize the asterisk that is the catch.
There are two sides to this asterisk. First is obviously the important part which, let’s be honest, you may not be reading this sentence anymore because you just gotta type a comment right now about the controversial rape scene in the first episode. I can try to say words, but ultimately I’m not eloquent enough to even begin saying anything about it. Let’s just say that I think we can universally agree that it was bad. In fact, the whole first episode, even barring the big oops scene is pretty bland and wholly disconnected from why I like Goblin Slayer. That part is the asterisk I mentioned. Everything I like about Goblin Slayer comes later and has nothing to do with the first episode. Hell, I don’t even need the part of the first episode that depicts the character, Goblin Slayer, as a badass, edgelord, goblin killing machine. Even that isn’t all that high on my list of why I like the guy.
Now I’m speaking as someone who is just watching the anime. Asides from the rape scene, the other things that pops up most often whenever Goblin Slayer gets talked about is how messy an adaptation it is and how the manga and then the novel are way better and have more to flesh out. But the thing that I like about Goblin Slayer so far as a limited anime viewer, is the characters themselves. Plus, these characters only get further developed from their respective mangas and novels anyways.
The hallmark is of course good old Gobby Slayer at the front. If you ignore the first episode, Goblin Slayer isn’t a huge badass. Adventurers around him think he’s a dirty, weird maniac who only kills trash mobs yet has the audacity to be considered a highly ranked, silver adventurer. He barely talks, barely interacts with people around him, and in general if you spend any amount of time with him you’ll either want to leave or just be creeped out. But that’s what the people in the show and even the viewers outside the show see. What I see is an autistic man who is living life to the fullest, on his terms. Clearly that’s just my interpretation, but the fact of the matter is that Goblin Slayer isn’t just disinterested with anything that doesn’t involve killing goblins, he’s almost incapable of it. He does try interacting with people, like trying their alcohol or discussing a plan, but it comes out so cringingly awkward, especially when he knows people around him get offended so he even goes so far as to further clarify his point after a conversation. That happens often when Priestess points out the problems in his plans and he simply replies, “I see. Ok then.”
Things pick up when a steady cast of characters get introduced, everyone only having their titles as named such as High Elf, Dwarf Mage, and Lizard Shaman. But not only do we see these demi-beasts bounce off each other, such as the natural friction between an elf and a dwarf, but we then see them interact with Goblin Slayer, who is barely human.
One point I see as a take it or leave detail is the hard fantasy. Plenty of people are turned off by hard fantasy because it’s been done to death already. Normally I’d agree, but Goblin Slayer even then doesn’t make it plain old hard fantasy. Goblin Slayer is straight up Dungeons & Dragons, right down to the dice being rolled in the OP. Magic isn’t some vague power but is a limited resource to adventurers. Goblin Slayer even asks the spellcasters, “How many spell slots they have left.” Lizard Shaman requires totems to be used in order to summon familiars, and a later boss fight involves the fireball spell in a context that is familiar to anyone who’s played D&D, particularly when one party member says to scatter but another replies, “To where?” because in D&D lore, fireball spreads out in all directions and even around corners for 20 or so feet.
Basically what I’m trying to say it, the real first episode is episode two. Throw episode one into the dumpster and toss a match in there, because nothing of value was lost.
Oh, also, before I forget, Goblin Slayer really needs some consistency on how they animate the character. Sometimes he’s respectably drawn and animated and you think he’s a proper character in a dark fantasy anime, and other times he’s this huge block of dark anime CG, and there’s no rhyme or reason when he shifts between the two. He will literally have a conversation with the adventurer’s guild marm (which should admittedly be easy to animate) then in the next scene as he walks to the side to talk to Priestess he’ll be CG. But then when he’s walking away to the door to leave, suddenly he’s animated again and not CG? Goblin Slayer isn’t just proficient at killing goblins, he’s also capable of switching between animation styles too.
Josh Tolentino
I’m right with Strider on this one: Chuck that first episode in the damn trash, because it frankly does the show a disservice. Contrary to what a public relations consultant will tell you, there IS such a thing as bad publicity, and Goblin Slayer brought a mess of it on its own head with that first episode. I don’t blame anyone at all for being turned off the show by the big scene: It was graphic, shocking, and utterly transparent and cynical in its flailing attempt to establish the show as “dark fantasy”, where “dark” is the same kind of cringe-inducing edgelord BS that drives the likes of marketing campaigns for Dante’s Inferno (the game) or similar juvenile awfulness.
That said, that’s actually the worst thing about it, since the novel (I’ve read the first volume) establishes the edginess so much better, without having to use an explicit rape scene to do it. Given the same scene is in the manga, this is a classic case of a scene getting “punched up” for dramatic effect and resulting in unforeseen consequences. It happened to Marvel comics with the whole character of Hank Pym, and it happened to Goblin Slayer with episode one. And for what? To emphasize that Goblins – a race that is almost never portrayed as good or even tolerable – are bad? That’s honestly as pointless as writing an op-ed in a Vatican newspaper titled “The Case Against The Devil” and thinking that’s a controversial take.
But enough about that. Goblin Slayer is a fun, atypical sort of misanthropic power fantasy that absolutely revels in how the character of the Goblin Slayer just isn’t like anyone else, for better and for worse. He’s strong, no doubt about it, but he’s not like Kirito, Goku, Superman, or Tatsuya Shiba. He’s not special, or chosen. In fact, other people are the actual chosen ones, and by episode five we’ve already seen a few of them – the characters who would be the leads in a stereotypical Dragon Quest-derived JRPG. Instead, Goblin Slayer’s hypercompetence is the result of his utter and complete dedication to the trade of murdering goblins. His expertise is clearly-hard-earned, but the show doesn’t pretend he’s any kind of aspirational figure. Occasionally it even deigns to hint that this dude with the cool helmet might not be right in the head.
Of course, the one thing it doesn’t want to do is make Goblin Slayer look genuinely bad. Like a badass, certainly, but not truly unappealing or unrelatable. Despite being shunned and mocked by the other adventurers, he still makes friends with a full party of competent people that desire his company. And his skills constantly land him in situations that threaten to take him away from the goblin-slaying he so craves, interacting with the fringes of the epic struggle against the Demon Lord. In its way, Goblin Slayer as a show is like Konosuba for peopel who think they’d do a better job than Batman.
And that can be pretty fun to watch, all thing considered. Just skip the first episode.

#Supergirl Ep. 221 Recap & Review "Resist"
Episode grade: 9
Lena Luthor awakens in a luxurious bed, totally gothed out. I realize fashion is pretty low on her list right now, but I still imagine she would rather not be seen like this in public. Rhea must have always wanted a daughter to dress up like a doll.
Lena's appropriately pissed at being abducted, and Rhea's reaction is that peculiar variety of sociopathic that can also be described as "mother knows best." Rhea's whole way of dealing with the world comes across as a weary frustration that people don't always immediately do what she says, that's she occasionally required to apply pressure to make them fall in line. (This parenting style is familiar to Lena, of course, because Lillian Luthor is a nightmare.)
Even Lillian, however, looks like a good mom now that you've got Rhea for comparison...Rhea plans to force Lena and Mon-El into a marriage that will symbolically unite Daxam and Earth. I bet Mon-El regrets being too heroic to shoot her last week!
Rhea's message of "Welcome to New Daxam; I will be your queen" is being projected all over National City, and her Daxamite army is raining down terror and destruction to bring the people to heel. Our heroes are mostly out there fighting back, except J'onn, who remains in a coma after last week's fight.
The DEO HQ has fallen to the Daxamite army, so our team has set up shop in the alien bar with whatever equipment they could get their hands on. They're all there trying to decide on a plan when Lillian waltzes in. She offers a limited alliance to fight their common enemy, but our friends aren't that desperate...yet.
Guardian and Maggie feel it's their duty to get back out on the street and protect people. For some reason, Supergirl doesn't leave the bar. That is one of the strange aspects of this episode. I get it, narratively, because she needs to be there for specific moments...but still, it's weird that the city is under siege, and its primary hero is hanging out in the bar, looking at computer monitors.
Winn picks up a signal being transmitted between the Daxamite mothership and...Air Force One, zooming right this way! He hacks into this communication (...but two weeks ago, he couldn't trace a signal relay set up by some guy Alex and Kara grew up with? Sorry, I'll try to never mention that crappy episode again), and our team gets to be a fly on the wall for the first contact between President Olivia Marsden, Queen Rhea, and Cat Grant!
Cat is her usual awesome self, trying to play the girl power aspect of this situation. Of course, she's a person with a soul, so she can't comprehend a sociopath like Rhea. There's no negotiating with this bitch. Rhea starts shooting down the presidential escort jets, then Air Force One.
Supergirl gets there just in time to catch Cat Grant, but the plane goes down. This isn't a fatal event for Madame President, though, because she's a Durlan! (We've known since her first appearance that she was an alien, but now we get a confirmation on her species; Durla is the homeworld of a race with shape-shifting abilities. Their most famous citizen is Chameleon, of the Legion of Super-Heroes.)
Back at the bar, the president instructs our team to retake the DEO facility and gain control of the positron cannon, then immediately use it to destroy the mothership. Supergirl and Alex beg her to reconsider, as Mon-El and Lena are hostages on that ship, but the president stands firm that defeating this invasion force is more important than saving any individual lives. (Fair point, and I can't help but note Supergirl's failure to shed tears for the pilot or crew of Air Force One. Not that I think she should beat herself up about their deaths, but she saved Cat and then expressed horror at the thought that she'd failed to save the president...no concern about the others?)
Supergirl's deeply conflicted about carrying out these orders, and Cat gives her the pep talk she needs to make a hard decision; she goes to find Lillian (and Hank Henshaw/Cyborg-Superman!) and agrees to their short-term alliance.
For their part in the adapted plan, Alex and Maggie are carrying out the president's orders (desperately hoping Supergirl's mission succeeds before theirs!), and Winn is helping Cat commandeer the airwaves to send a message of hope and rebellion to the citizens of National City. She gives a beautiful speech to inspire the city to resist Rhea, this thug "who claims she will make our world great again."
When Daxamite soldiers show up at Catco to stop Cat's transmission, Guardian saves the day! He uses lead dust to trigger the Daxamites' "space asthma," which is an awesome use of their one known weakness.
Cat looks right at Guardian and says, "Thanks, James." He and Winn stammer, but she just points out that his eyes are visible through the slit in his mask. (And unlike with Kara, no shape-shifter is on hand to prove her suspicion wrong!)
Lillian's plan involves the Phantom Zone projector in the Fortress of Solitude. They will hack its frequency to get it to beam them behind the shields around the mothership, so they can rescue Lena and Mon-El. Kara asks why Lillian hasn't outed her to Lena, since Lillian knows her secret identity. She sneers that she's waiting for Lena to figure it out, because then she'll see that Kara has been lying to her, proving that aliens can't be trusted, after which Lena will finally become a full Luthor.
Now, I just have to say one thing: I call BS on Lena still not figuring out Kara is Supergirl. I will accept that she can interact with Kara and Supergirl closely without knowing they're the same person, because I'm a comic book fan, and we accept that sort of thing as part of the deal. But now, Lena has met Mon-El both as Kara's boyfriend AND as the superhero who showed up with Supergirl to fight Lena's alien mentor, Rhea, who turned out to be Mon-El's mom, who talks a lot about her son dating the wrong girl and who has a beef with Supergirl...there is no excuse for her not putting two and two together at this point.
In fact, here's the rescue team: Supergirl barely restrains herself from kissing Mon-El, then says that Kara Danvers sent her. If Lena comes out of this without a full awareness of this secret identity, they better have a major explanation...or maybe they'll just have J'onn mindwipe her, so when she figures it all out the second time she can feel even more betrayed.
Lillian tries to screw Supergirl over, of course, leaving her and Mon-El behind on the ship. Winn had rigged a backup plan, because Lillian can't be trusted, but Kara sends Mon-El to safety alone! She says she wants to offer Rhea a peaceful surrender. I hate this. I get that it's meant to be the heroic choice, but it's so naive, and dude, you know that if you're not out of there soon, your sister will wind up shooting you out of the sky! Right now, I feel like Kara's greater allegiance should have been to Alex; she should have gotten off the ship to prevent her sister from having to make an awful decision that would haunt her for the rest of her life.
(If you read my recaps of The Originals, you know I'm always bitching about how dishonorable the Mikaelsons are, so believe me, I recognize there's irony in my bitching about how honorable Supergirl is being. I like a happy medium, I guess, where you stand by your word and respect your allies, but you accept that sometimes the bad guy has to die, and you don't risk your life to offer redemption to someone who has shown no interest in it.)
Down on the ground, Alex has her finger on the positron cannon trigger, and the president is ordering her to proceed, but she knows Kara is still on the ship. She hesitates just long enough that we should probably assume she's going to be fired, especially because her hesitation gives the Daxamites time to destroy the cannon. Oops.
Up on the ship, Rhea laughs at Kara's offer to surrender, then introduces another secret weapon...she's got Superman under her control!
This week had a couple of minor flaws, but the return of Cat Grant makes everything better. I love this character, and I could watch Calista Flockhart's gracefully formidable performance all day.
What was your favorite Cat moment?
Next week, Supergirl vs. Superman!

BS: After leaving the Choi residence we promptly introduce our next superman.
LM: Wow, this minimalist interior makes it looks like no one lives here. Even the polished floors of the personal dance studio are kept spotless.
BS: A cheerful yellow room with dinosaur decals on the wall sits adjacent from the last. Wooden blocks sit above the white dresser beside the crib: 미래
LM: Looks like the owner of that name is getting up from their nap. Ah! She’s so cute.
BS: I don’t think I’ve heard such a quiet cry before. Oh? She stopped.
You walk over to the crib in your bedroom, and the crying instantly ceases and is replaced with laughing. Your daughters smiles up at you with her gummy smile and messy bed hair.
Smiling back at the little bundle of joy, pulling her out of the crib. The two of you make your way into the main living room so as to not wake your sleeping boyfriend.
BS: Our Superman is still sound asleep in bed, perhaps he had a long night?
The two of you sit on the couch. “Mirae-ah,” calling her attention as you set her down in your lap as she looks around the room curiously. “What are those?”
Without any hesitation, she smiles at the cameras and staff. “Did you say hi?” You question the 11-month-old before she shields her face into your shirt.
LM: Oh my gosh. She’s so cute, I don’t think I’ve seen a baby so open to being in front of the camera. It looks like she has just started growing her front top teeth.
“How about we play with your walker while Eomma prepares your milk?” She smiles and squeals at your facial expressions as you carry her towards the kitchen.
Pulling her bouncer/walker with your foot towards the kitchen you carefully place your giggly baby girl in. Before attention gravitates towards the toys attached to it.
BS: Our Superman has finally woken up. Who could be the father of this cutie baby?
Just as you finish making your daughter’s milk bottle, a pair of sturdy arms come around your waist giving a gentle squeeze. You turn around to face your boyfriend.
LM: Wow his hair looks like a birds nest.
BS: The same could be said about Mirae. Looking at them side by side, the resemblance is truly uncanny
Cupping his face gently. “Rehearsal ran long again?” You cooed. He tiredly nods before placing his head into your shoulder.
You laugh at his bed head before gently combing through it with your finger to reveal his facial features to the cameras.
LM: It’s Seventeen’s Golden Maknae, Dance Machine Lee Chan.
BS: He’s now all grown up with a little family of his own, with his non-idol girlfriend and his 11-month-old daughter Lee Mirae.
Tumblr media
“Hello My name is Lee Chan, I’m a third-generation Kpop idol from the idol group seventeen, actor and father to Lee Mirae. Aka the cutest baby in the whole world.” He says bouncing the infant on his lap, which causes a laugh to escape from her lips.
You stare at the daddy-daughter duo lovingly before shifting your attention to the cameras. “Welcome to our home everyone. I’m Mirae’s mother, Kim Y/N.”
How did you two meet?
Mirae places her hands up towards you to get picked up. Chan places her down on your lap before clearing his throat to speak “It was during the filming my first drama and she happened to be one of the staff members.”
A laugh escapes your lips as you recall the events vividly,“He offered to eat with me during our craft service break, and it slowly became routine for us.”
“We ended up exchanging our numbers the last day of filming and the rest became history,” Chan smiles to himself from ear to ear thinking of how far you've come.
How did you two react after finding out you were expecting?
His face drastically changes after hearing the question, clenching his hands in a tight fist as he spoke, “God it was terrifying.” He finally blurts out before looking away from the cameras.
“Many things were happening at that time. Chan was still completing the last 8 months of his military service, and I was having trouble finding a new job.” You try your best to restrain your emotions.
However, your voice breaks a little as you continue speaking, “I was worried about what the fans would think, and the netizens since the two of us aren’t married. More importantly, I was afraid of how Chan would react.”
Chan looks at you, concern rising on his face before reaching to hold onto your free hand. “It was challenging for both of us, but I think looking back on it now it was worth every worry or doubt we had to face from others as well as ourselves.”
We heard your 6th anniversary is soon, is there anything you'd like to say to one another?
“Y/N-ah, I’m sorry for giving you such a hard time, at times I felt like it was my fault for placing you in such a vulnerable position and hated myself so much because of that.” He holds onto his composure as best as he can until his eyes drift towards a sleeping Mirae.
He takes a deep breath, using the back of his hand to wipe the tears that had already threatened to fall. “I know I may never be able to repay you, but I want to make sure that the rest of our lives together are spent without any stress. I will work hard every day to prove how thankful I am to have you in my life, until the day I die.”
Carefully securing Mirae in one arm, you gently wipe your Chan’s tears with the thumb of your free hand. “A don’t cry, you’re making me cry and I haven’t even answered the question yet.”
“I can’t help it.”
Passing your boyfriend tissues as you speak, tears begin to fall before you even start. “Lee Chan. my Jagiya, thank you for being there for me, even at times where I felt like I wanted to give up or walk away from what we have. I know we planned to have kids later on in life, but can’t imagine wanting someone else to be the father of my child, I love you so much.”
Do you have anything you’d like to say to the viewers of Return of Superman?
“Hello everyone, I am Lee Mirae’s father Lee Chan of Seventeen. Like many first time parents, I’m always learning as we go, so I hope you guys can take what I learn and use it in your everyday lives. I hope the Return of Superman community welcome take care of Mirae and I as we welcome you into our home with open arms.” He smiles towards the camera before the three of you now.
