Hello! Just got into Never Have I Ever and I love Devi x Ben very much. I was just curious, what songs make you think of them and why?

oh my playlist is wildly eclectic, but this is a fun ask and i am excited to share.

first thing’s first - boys like you by kids at midnight. it plays over the devi/ben kiss and it’s the perfect love letter to the relationship. i even love how it has that ‘this romance is inadvisable’ vibe.

so strange by superhumanoids plays in the first episode over principal grubbs dismissing them/the “your heels are slowing us down take them off” scene. i am kinda obsessed with the lyrics “where it isn’t/it is” as it applies to devi eventually finding a lot of tenderness in her relationship with ben.

slicked by weaves plays in 1.06 over the bus-ride staring and it slaps.

wild by monogem plays over their not-kiss in 1.08 and i kinda like it more as a devi-only song but it still makes me think of them so. on my playlist it goes.

make no mistake misses blue by fabian simon & the moon machine also plays during 1.06 and not actually during a d/b scene, but stay with me here for a sec. grieving devi is misses blue. consider these lyrics: “make no mistake misses blue, before i fall down i’m gonna fall for you.”

moving onto music not featured on the show - this was not my best day ever by acres of lions. it has a very sad, lonely vibe that fits both the kiddos. plus, there’s the line “you may lean into me/i’m not as frail as we used to be” that gives me feels about the way ben supports devi through 1.10.

this one’s a bit embarrassing but - poppin’ champagne by all time low because the line “with my eyes just as wide as my mouth can be” gave me ben vibes one (1) time and now it’s on my playlist forever.

just what i needed by the cars because bhargavi used lyrics for a so what about these feelings ive got chapter title and i hadn’t heard it for a while so i went to give it a listen before i read the chapter and yeah. it stuck.

we sink by of monsters and men came to be on my list for a very similar reason. i hadn’t actually heard this one before, but i vibed with it so. thanks, bhargavi!

speaking of songs i got from fic, there’s also i’m with you by vance joy, which was brought into my life by whatapill’s looking like that, you’ll open some wounds.

and while we’re on whatapill’s fic, carried away by passion pit is a top-shelf devi/ben song. which makes sense, because i’m your friend (don’t quote me) is a top-shelf devi/ben fic.

janet by the format because it gives me college d/b feels. something about “just something that the east coast does to me/makes me forget who I am” being devi at princeton and “something about the midwest honey, oh/it makes me miss you more than a lot” being her thinking about ben while traveling back home.

hey jealousy by gin blossoms for no other reason than all those canon moments where the camera focuses on ben’s jealousy make that song play in my head.

moonbeam by justin courtney pierre is another song i fancy for them post-high school. there’s a “we’ve grown apart but i’d still do anything for you” vibe i like for them

she by louie says is from buffy, but it came on my shuffle one day and i was like “holy crap! this is a devi and ben song!” and i haven’t been able to shake that even though it already has Fandom Associations. the whole chorus gives me feels about what i anticipate for their s2 story, while the line “she hates you, but then she makes a mistake” gives me distinct s1 feels.

and a final entry to this list - hey #1, hey #2, and hey #3/perfect for you from next to normal because i used the third ‘hey’ to title the jean jacket fic and the association just kinda stuck.
