It did, actually, though it took a while! Sun very reluctant to come out today. . .but eventually it got easier to see all the fun activities I was making my gang do, including:

-->Victor going around harvesting more unidentified plants with the help of his broom, encountering cute chipmunks along the way (and managing to avoid the “bear” that was wandering around and trying to talk to him)

-->Smiler and Alice starting a game of horseshoes at the picnic area! I had Victor go over and join once he was done collecting specimens -- I wasn’t sure for a moment if three Sims could play, as when he came over Smiler suddenly quit the game, but I had Alice invite them back in, and they all ended up taking a turn or two to throw. :) None of them were PARTICULARLY good, but they all seemed to have fun, at least! And I imagine it’s a difficult game to master.

-->The gang indulging in various creative pursuits -- I had Victor make a horse sculpture and a nice display shelf at the woodworking table to increase his Handiness; Alice paint the “station” sign (not a masterpiece, but a nice souvenir, at least!), and Smiler play some songs on the guitar (facing the wall, because apparently that guitar is not exactly in the right spot).

-->And, of course, our Angling Ace Smiler had to go fishing in the nice pond nearby! (Complete with a pretty rainbow!) They got some nice stuff -- a sturgeon, a bass, some parsley in a treasure box. . .

Petit's Race Notes

FP1: Logan was forced to run with Alex's patched-up chassis, while Alex kept Logan's. Logan promptly crashed and everyone immediately thought of James Vowles' spreadsheet...

FP2: It rained, but not enough for Intermediates. It got drier, but not dry enough for slicks. Logan's car was not ready, so he was not taking part in FP2 at all, but he didn’t miss much. We saw very little action on track, but we got some nice garage and fan shots. Also cherry blossoms 😍

FP3: Ferrari messed up the end of Charles's session to where he could only do 1 flying lap, and he was not a happy camper on team radio. Fred later said, "We did some shit this morning." Everybody else ran on track as well, but nothing exciting to report.

Quali: Dio mio - we almost didn't make it through Q1 as Charles's first lap was not great at all, and he was forced to use an extra set of new Softs to secure his spot. Which let to him only having 1 set of tyres in Q3. He ended up in P8 with his 1 lap, not having the best warm-up (which he vowed to work on in the sim to improve). The Red Bulls covered the front row with Lando and Carlos behind.

GP: Quite a bit warmer than the days before and sunny. Daniel and Alex had a lap 1 incident and both ended up in the tyre barrier. Both were thankfully okay, but Logan's... I mean, Alex's chassis not so much.

Next, we had a fascinating game of strategies as everyone was trying to see which tyres would work best, and Charles made the bold decision to do a 1-stop strategy. After all the pitstops were done, Charles was running P3, ahead of Norris and Sainz - the latter with 10-lap fresher tyres eventually made it rather easily past both Lando and Charles. Yuki finished P10 and scored his first home race points.

I've lost almost all pictures of this Emerald Height play session. I only remember that Seamus befriended his landlady and some of the neighbors. I don't even know, why he wrote a book, probably for the creativity skill point.

a big big thanks to my lovely mutuals @vespersposts and @lylakoi for tagging me in this little answers questiongs game! i am so excited to answer! 🩵

1. Are you named after anyone?

yes! and there is a longish story behind it! my parents struggled having kids for a long time before having my twin sister and i. they tried everything possible, but mum just couldn't stay pregnant. no doctor could tell why and no amount of praying was helping. when they almost gave up, after 8 years of trying, on December 19th, mum finally found out she was pregnant! in Orthodox Christian Calendar that's a day called St. Nikola, and so mum knew that the baby would be named after him, to honor him and thank him for the blessing! then she found out she had identical twin girls! we ended up being born sooner becayse my sister was developing way faster than me and she was so big she was kind of crushing me, leaving me with almost no oxygen. she was eating all my food as well, so i was starving, too. doctors thought i wouldn't survive, but my mum says that she believed in me and was praying to St. Nikola that i would be healthy and okay. and so i was the baby named after him! now i bear a female version of his name, Nikolija!

2. When was the last time you cried?

two days ago actually... before posting my art on here i had a little crying session because i was really worried and thought people wouldn't like and enjoy my work. then i cried from happines when my first like happened a few minutes after i posted!

3. Do you have kids?

no, but maybe one day i would like to have them.

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?

i don't think so, but some of the people i know claim otherwise?

5. What's your eye color?

dark brown! they are very dark though! most people in my life thought they were black before i pointed a flashlight in them.

6. Scary movies or happy endings?

i am not a fan of scary movies, so happy endings!

7. Any special talents?

not sure if this is a talent, but my intelligence is really high! after doing my iq test my examiner told me that i was really impressive and that the last time she encountered someone so bright was like a decade ago. i have an iq that's between 135 and 145, but i was never given the exact number for some reason?

8. Where were you born?

on a sunny and beautiful August day, in the middle of her vacation abroad, my mum had a weird gut feeling about the babies in her belly. she asked my dad and her parents if she could visit a doctor. when the doctors had a look they said and she had to urgently give birth or one of her babies could die. she originally wanted to go home and give birth there, but she decided she didn't want to risk anything, so, my sister and i were born during mum's vacation in Trieste, Italy!

9. What are your hobbies?

i have a bunch of hobbies! my oldest and absolute favorite hobby is drawing, i do that since i know for myself! i also really love dancing and i have been a folk dancer for a really big part of my life. now i am just a casual part of a folk dancing club because i don't have enough time to commit to it fully... i have a hobby similar to it, and it's learning K-Pop and J-Pop dances! i am a big fan of a few Korean and Japanese groups and i find learning their choreographies enjoyable! i also love learning languages! in school i learned English, Russian and German, and on my own i am learning Japanese and Italian! i might not speak them all fluently, but i am actively working on them! watching anime is one of my favorite hobbies as well! i also play video games, mostly the ones that you create things in, like Minecraft and the Sims! another hobby of mine is collecting K-Pop photocards of my favorite girls, SuA of Dreamcatcher and Nayeon and Dahyun of TWICE! it's my most recent hobby! throughout my life i have tried many more things like singing, crotchet, embroidery, making sculptures, animation, sewing, writing, reading, a few different sports, but these are the ones that stuck with me for the longest!

10. Have you any pets?

yes, i do! i have a cat and a dog! my dog is a black labrador named Oddie! he is turning 10 human years old this year! he is the sweetest and cutest boy, but his health is slowly declining and i am scared for him. he has been by my side since i was 8 and i wish he could stay by my side forever, he is truly my favorite dog ever! i also have a black cat! my mum's friend found him in the garden and now he is our precious Leo. he is cuddly and sweet and he loves spending time outdoors. he sometimes gets injured and gives us heart attacks, but he always ends up being okay!

11. What sports do you play/have played?

if dancing folklore is a sport, then yes! i have also attempted volleyball and basketball a couple of times in my life, but i am really clumsy with my hands so i was never good at them and quit them really quickly.

12. How tall are you?

i was around 168cm last time i checked it!

13. Favorite subject in school?

i really love Geography, History and English. though Biology and Chemistry are right behind them!

14. Dream job?

a concept artist for cartoons. that is something i want to do since i was literally 10 years old and i still stand by it! if that doesn't work out then becoming a tattoo artist sounds awesome! i already draw a lot on people in my school and it is really fun, and the job is very well paid!

Pre-TT Classic practice kicks of 2023 TT Festival.

TT 2023 began in customary fashion with the first practice session for the Pre-TT Classic. This year has seen a very strong entry with a large of newcomers joining the established front runners. The Sidecars; once in decline are showing a steady increase in numbers. The evening was sunny and warm; the track dry and all went to plan apart from some oil being dropped at Ballawhetstone. The slip road at our vantage point of Ballakeighan had a few customers; as is normal for the first session. Newcomer Stefan Dobler was the fastest man down that road. The number of machines retiring there was by a distance the highest ever seen. The sessions went well with the usual names at the top of the nascent leader board; there was a newcomer at the top in the chairs Kieran Clarke and new passenger Andrew Johnson led the way from Bob Dawson and Matthew Sims. The Singles were led by multiple winners Mike Hose and Barry Davidson. The 1100cc leaders were Jamie Coward and Dominic Herbertson; that order was reversed for the Senior (500cc) class. In the Junior Superbikes Rhys Hardisty led from Chris Moore. The Classic 250 / Post Classic 125cc class was led by Keith Shannon with Ewan Hamilton second. The Junior (350cc) field was led by Adam McLean and Barry Davidson. The Superbikes were headed by Jamie Coward and Paul Jordan. Saturday afternoon will see further practice for all classes. The evening will see the first four races of the meeting. Sunday afternoon will see the remaining six races. The weather is set fair so we should have some exciting racing in the sunshine. Luca clicks the first result that comes up. It's a boy, a teenager, although he knows that may not necessarily mean anything; he's building a house in a game Luca vaguely recognises as the Sims and laughing with the chat in the little box in the corner of the window, his smile wide and sunny, a pair of pink cat-ear headphones perched on his head.

If it wasn't for the flash of fangs when he smiles, when he talks, if it wasn't for the ashen tone of his skin, he would look so alive.

"- right, and they've done it in two parts, right? So they first put us in with Late Night, that's the one with Bridgeport, and it was kind of limited, you had to actually find one of the premades and ask them to turn you. Which is pretty good representation, actually! Then when Supernatural came out, we got a big update, and you could make them in CAS. I started my Legacy play then, so it's been... what, three years?"

Something game-related. Luca settles back. He's never played the Sims, but there's something cozy about the stream, about watching the streamer talk away merrily with the chat, about watching him building a gloriously pink, purple, and yellow gothic mansion.

There's something reassuring, he thinks, about not having to spend the time alone.

Trembling Blue Stars and The Lilac Saints Are the Latest Bands to Back Crisis for Christmas

It’s a proper thrill to announce the inclusion of Trembling Blue Stars in the Have Yourself a Merry Indie Christmas line-up. Elefant records have a comprehensive history of the band’s frontman Bobby Wratten. Here are some edited highlights:

‘Trembling Blue Stars is a band led by Bobby Wratten, one of the most brilliant and prolific songwriters in the recent history of British pop music. The Field Mice was Bobby’s first band. They began as a duo formed by himself on guitar and vocals, and Michael Hiscock on bass. They released their first single (“Emma’s House”) on Sarah Records in 1988. Pretty much by word-of-mouth alone, it sold 5000 copies. They expanded to a five-piece (adding Harvey on guitar, Annemari on vocals/keyboards, and Mark on drums), recorded six more singles, four albums and a Peel session.

Following the demise of the band, Bobby, Annemari and Marc emerged as Yesterday Sky and then Northern Picture Library. A compilation album Postscript (2005) may be an interesting place to start and work backwards from.

“For This One” - Trembling Blue Stars

All the songs on The Trembling Blue Stars first album, Her Handwriting - the title is a quote from The Go Betweens’ song “Part company”- were recorded in December ‘95/January ‘96. The album details the break-up of a relationship and received universally good reviews - NME and Melody Maker ran pieces on the band, who were also invited to record a session for the Mark Radcliffe Show on BBC Radio 1. Subsequent albums (Lips That Taste of Tears, Broken by Whispers) would show a band constantly improving their skills, combining their usual melancholy with transparent pop songs such as the “Dark eyes” single. “Broken by whispers” was released in the States by Subpop and it would be exceptionally well received by press and radios, topping various end-of-the-year polls. In the UK they’re still releasing their records through Shinkansen (the label launched by Matt Haynes from Sarah Records).

In 2001 the fourth album appears: Alive to Every Smile features a new line-up with many ex-Sarah Records band members in its ranks: Keris Howard from Brighter, Beth Arzy from Aberdeen and Harvey Williams from Another Sunny Day. Annemari keeps on collaborating with the band, singing vocals in two of the tracks: “Maybe After All” and “The Ghost of an Unkissed kiss”. In 2003, A Certain Evening Light is released: a compilation of songs that had only appeared previously as part of the singles the band had released from its beginnings up to now, 17 songs taken from limited edition vinyl singles, or in different versions to the ones on their previous albums. A basic record to understand Bobby Wratten’s career. This album has a surprise bonus track, Christmas & Train Trips & Things, which appeared on a Christmas compilation released especially to be given as a gift at the Shinkansen Christmas party’. (You’ve spotted it, dear reader, “Christmas & Train Trips & Things” is the track that the band (many thanks to Matt Haynes for going the extra mile to make this happen) will be “donating” to the album).

Back to the Elefant history and its inevitable conclusion:

‘In 2010, Trembling Blue Stars release their last album Fast Trains and Telegraph Wires. The end of Trembling Blue Stars is like trying to completely forget that love that changed your life: in the end, it’s impossible that it disappears, but just the thought of it happening is an unending sadness’.

Nothing speaks to my dogged, obsessive pursuit of a great Christmas song than the presence of 'Give Me Love on Xmas Day' on the album. I can't for the life of me remember how I discovered this 2012 release from Singapore's The Lilac Saints, a pop/rock band who peaked in popularity during the mid-to late '90s. Formed in 1989 the band is comprised of Ric Liu (vocals), Bhaskar (vocals, guitar), Desmond Sim (drums), Eugene Wee (bass), and Kevin Tan (vocals, guitar, keyboards). They scored local hits including "Gina" and released albums including Awake (1997) before retiring the band around the turn of the century. They later reunited periodically for live performances including Baybeats 2008 and new recordings, including the astoundingly good charity single "Give Me Love on Xmas Day." Huge thanks to Kevin Tan (guitar & keys) for his super-helpful approach in making the song available.

Burb family, Dragon Valley - World Adventures #121

It’s a sunny and lively morning at Champs Les Sims. John and Jennifer spent the rest of their day harvesting fresh fruits from the nectary’s garden, making nectars, and mingling with French locals.

John had a lovely chat with Charlotte and thanked her for the accommodation she gave them. The French nectar merchant replied that it was nothing compared to what Jennifer did for her and the whole nectar industry.

They went home during the afternoon, and everything’s pretty much back to normal. They made jams and nectars and had some meditation sessions.

As absurd as it might be, I don’t think that while I played in Coconut Palms Island I left the rain effect on with it being a forever-sunny-type-of-world. Now while playing just for fun I was too lazy to shut it off, so naturally it started raining. I was amazed how beautiful and refreshing the rain worked with this type of weather (from Sunlit Tides).

While waiting for the rain to stop my sim threw a house party.

The guests behaved so cute and even danced in pairs. All by themselves.

Until...megaphones started blaring, hot-hotheadedness and grumpiness made special appearances, one guest couldn’t stop eating, two other sims invaded the master bedroom-to...ahem...get to know each other better, almost all the guys crowded in the house spa while the girls proceeded to pillow fight with each other by rotation, etc...

Of course the game forgot I was actually having a party, so I was left with no moodlet. Bummer.

Good thing is: another party is in order.

But only after we’re recovering from this one with a spa session and the nice views from the deck.

9) have you ever been in love? oh yeah, several times. maybe 4? 11) dinner dates or brunch dates? honestly brunch even though my ass is NOT awake at brunch times. there’s just something wonderful about that moment that you figure out the person you’re at brunch with is willing to do the thing where you split a sweet and a savory item. and drinking coffee while you sit across from someone you’ve been seeing for a while and just realizing that you know how they take their coffee? love it.

13)favorite perfume/cologne? honestly i prefer the natural smell of people i like usually, but if i had to pick a scent it would be cedar or sandalwood essential oil.

15) what’s your ideal first date? ok so if not in a pandemic, the person would come to me. they’d bring food over from a restaurant and i’d mix up a drink/mocktail for us. we’d set up a table outside and sit catty corner to each other at one end, close enough to bump knees or touch arms. (pretend it’s summer time so the light sticks around). we spend dinner eating and talking about stuff-- what we’ve read or watched or thought about lately --and when it’s over we play a game, either cards or scrabble or something like that. it’s more fun than competitive, but we each win a round (or have a close scrabble match). finally i ask if i can kiss them and they say yes and we have a really good makeout session.

it looks different from what i would’ve said before i got sick, but it still would’ve sounded good to me then.

17) what’s the most attractive thing a person could wear? a shirt with pearl snap buttons if i’m being basic. <insert that’s hot emoji> but also? i really find unusual outfits super attractive-- if you’re rockin’ your own kind of look i’m gonna look respectfully.

19) snow, rain, or sun? rainy night, sunny afternoon. 21) favorite dating sim (and favorite character)? IDK what this means...so...

23) what’s your dream wedding like? hm. smallish but not tiny. not super formal-- nobody needs to buy a new outfit for it. indoors, but with a view of the outdoors behind/around us. my dad accompanies me down the aisle but doesn’t give me away. we say our own vows and one of our friends performs the ceremony. we do something to honor our community and the people around us. there’s cupcakes and brownies and cheese instead of a cake. (we definitely feed each other cheese instead of cake, very appropriate). the food is excellent. my dress is pink. 25) do you believe in love at first sight? yes, mostly because it’s happened to me before.

Soo, this may or may not still be the case because my game crashed, but I wanted to have a younger sibling, so I had Mina and Sunny try for baby. Mina is set to be able to get other Sims pregnant. However, after the patch, these two somehow managed to get each other pregnant? I’m not even mad, just impressed.

Either way, my game crashed so this likely won’t be there anymore - I don’t quite remember if this was before or after my mid-session save.

Digging For Inspiration - Clay Gathering Resource

Sims may now venture out and dig up natural clay to stockpile, sell, or transform into pottery later.

Clay Digging Pit

Children through elders Sims may dig for raw clay resources at this digging pit. The pit has two options: Dig For Clay and Make Clay Supply Bucket. When a pit is placed, it cuts away the tile under it. On flooded lots or low lots like beaches, this can result in water filling the hole naturally. It can be found in or Hobbies > Creativity or Build > Gardening for $0.

Dig For Clay: Each dig session builds body skill for the sim and can result in obtaining between 3-8 Raw Clay Lumps.This is a resource item that can be sold for profit or processed further in stations to create other objects.

Make Clay Supply Bucket: By combining 50 lumps of raw clay at the pit. This Clay Supply Bucket enables sims to obtain 5 lumps of clay per 12 hours without having to go digging for it and dropping their motives. The Supply Bucket may also be bought in the catalog for that “imported” feel. It can be found in or Hobbies > Creativity for $50.

Autonomy

If a Shovel is placed in a sim’s inventory they will automatically dig for lumps of raw clay. The shovel can be found in Hobbies > Creativity for $15.
