author's notes:

do not expect historical or botanical accuracy here! the flowers chosen in each chapter are mainly for aesthetics and symbolism, and might not accurately reflect their cultivation or growing seasons. the language of flowers used here is based on western victorian floriography (rather than other countries' systems) since the royalty au here is already heavily based on european aesthetics.

the first half of the story or so will be fluff, while the next will be angst with a bit of hurt/comfort towards the end. after that there will be both a good and a bad ending.

the first chapter was written in one sitting as a "let's get this idea out of the system" kind of thing, so the quality might be a different from later chapters. i may go back and make an edited version of the first chapter if it have the time and energy to do so!

I've been quiet for a bit, but here's my contribution for 10/10 day! Only... a few days late.

RIGHT, SO- going off of question number 8, in the UTMV, let's veer away from the Sanses real quick... Hear me out: Zinnia!Alphys!

Zinnia!Alphys is not a regular Alphys. She's still quiet and nervous, but she studies honey- and different kinds of honey. She also studies colors. She's an assistant to Zinnia!Mettaton with fashion because of her expertise on colors!

Zinnia!Alphys is pink like most zinnia flowers, and her spikes are incredibly flakey like that on the flower. Her eyes are a flakey yellow and her glasses are water droplets! She has a yellow and orange striped dress that's held together by a sticky honey she invented. She also loves to do her nails.

Zinnia!Undye has a fascination with bees and flowers, so when Zinnia!Alphys can, she tries to design a colorful bouquet for her friend, and they love to frolick in snowdin where tons of bluebells grow. Zinnia!Alphys her real love interest is the brave and gentle knight of the royal guard, Zinnia!Papyrus.

And quite possibly, Zinnia!Alphys has to team up with Zinnia!Toriel and Zinnia!Asgore to stop the villianous duo, Zinnia!Sans and Zinnia!Muffet.

In My San Diego Garden and Kitchen

We returned two days ago from a visit with our son’s family in the Seattle area and found that strawberry guava season had just commenced. Some of the early drops were only compost worthy but gathering the best, picking some and shaking the tree yielded four pounds. More on strawberry guavas as the season proceeds. Search ediblegardens52 + strawberry guavas now if you’re interested.

On my first day home I picked these tomatoes. The striped ones are Chocolate Lightning Dwarfs and the other three Rosella Purple Dwarfs. And of course, my Black Cherry “explosion” tomatoes. I often harvest the larger tomatoes a day or two ahead of being fully ripe, hastening the remaining tomatoes, in theory. They seem to color up nicely in the kitchen.

The focus is forward to the fall garden now even as summer crops finish. I removed the two zucchini plants which looked decent but had stopped producing sizable fruit. The pole green beans are setting seed and my various beans grown for drying have more brown pods. Bell peppers enlarge and some show some progression to red.

The Jacaranda and Premium Crop broccoli seedlings grew well during my week away. The flea beetles found them as usual so hoping the beneficial insect predators will find them. Last fall I did a deep dive into Flea Beetles. Read more if they plague your brassicas.

This week I’ll prepare several planting beds and plant three varieties of cauliflower for starts. I’m without lettuce now so I’ll likely do a few varieties in six packs and some in the ground. I’m sounding quite ambitious. We’ll see what actually is accomplished.

My Red Queen Lime zinnias grow well with these warm days and I never tire of the small bouquets.

Meanwhile, in the Pacific Northwest, it’s dahlia season. Even the most pedestrian gardens seem to sport a few plants. The bouquet came from the Edmonds Farmers’ Market where there were so many dahlia bouquets to choose from.

his eyes are gold!! some tidbits include; he never looks anyone in the eye save certain occasions and he always seems to be looking at something that’s not there.

🤥 LYING - are they good liars? do they have tells to show they're lying?

he’s probably the worst liar to ever live. the moment he says something untrue he starts sweating and breathing heavily and making actual eye contact- not that it’s pleasant, his whites start showing and his pupils dilate to the extremes.

🙉 HEAR-NO-EVIL - what is the worst thing your oc could hear from someone?

that he’s a bad person or even a flawed one. he cannot fathom the idea and refuses to accept it at any cost.

💐 BOUQUET - create a bouqet for them! what do those flowers mean? are any of the flowers their particular favourite?

Behind the little shop, there was a garden, filled with all the flowers that he had seen in the shop. Stepping out and into it was like stepping into a whole different world, the sound of bees and other creatures making themselves heard, and all of it had him smiling. Lucas: You really are quite amazing, you know that? Meadow: Eh Lucas: Oh come on, you make potions better than anyone, you make these. -he takes out the gem River had given him from his pocket.- and on top of that… you manage to handle all this. He stretched out his arms, spinning around once, just because it made him want to. He could stay here in this garden for hours, he was sure about it.

Meadow: I am not that good. Lucas: You are, you're just not giving yourself credit.-he walked closer to her, he knew two things he would do to prove it.- Now I need a favor, and I know you won’t like it, but I will still ask for it. Meadow: Ehm? Lucas: I need you to give me flowers to give to River, but it is not from me, it’s from you.

She stared at him as if it was a very odd request. Lucas: Those flowers need to tell you how you feel about him, what you really feel about him. Let it speak all the words you feel you can’t. Meadow: You really think he will understand? Lucas: With a bit of a push and help, yes. You know the meaning of every flower, every color, every scent... So I believe you can find them. I will just have to help him figure them out as well.

She grumbled and looked at him, it was really hard to say no to those eyes, and that slight hopeful smile on his face, so instead she shook her head and walked into the garden looking at the many flowers. The more she looked at them, the more she realized he was right. She could tell him all that she felt with these flowers if she just chose the correct ones. Meadow: These... They… Lucas: Say what you can’t, you’ll have to tell me their names though, I am not that flower savvy. Meadow: I’ll make you a list.

She took him back inside, making a list of the flowers she had chosen. Pink Camellia, Striped carnation, white clover, forget-me-not, purple hyacinth, tiger lily, blue salvia, southernwood, and Zinnia. Lucas watched, knowing he would google them all before he delivered them to River, so he could try and make him understand. They both needed the other, they were just hurt, and too stubborn to talk.

Zinnia finds a friend

South Zinnia looked up at their father as they trailed past the overgrowth. "Where are we going?" They asked, stopping for a moment to pick out a small thorn from there skin. Trade Amarizi stopped and looked back to reply, "The city. I want you to go there at least once you know." His smiled was warm and it always made Zinnia smile, including now. "I want you to have friends, and that's kind of hard when nobody in town is your age, sooo…" Zinnia ran after him, ears flattened. "Is there a daycare in the city?" They hoped there wasn't. Being left alone was something they never wanted to experience again. The shuffled closer to their dad. He sighed. "No no, nothing like that. I heard that the city is a good place to go to first if you wish to visit other towns!" Zinnia's ears perked up. They had heard about that, but the fact they were actually going to one was awesome! They bounded ahead of him, not even really hearing it call after them.

They weren't in the city. The scenery actually reminded Zinnia of home. The tall rocks with ancient carvings on them and the fire that billowed just beyond them. Wait. Fire meant other cats. They snuck up on them to get a better view. There was a silver tortishell and a ginger tabby molly licking each other. Ew! Had these guys never heard of a bath?! They stalked away from them to see a small hut. A single calico was playing with a brightly-coloured ball. It looked… really fun! The cat accidently bounced the ball to high, and it rolled to Zinnia's feet. They leapt out of there hiding spot and kicked the ball back as the tortishell gave a small squeak. "Who are you?!" They asked, grabbing the ball once it got over to them. Zinnia honestly didn't like their tone. It was really… aggressive. "Umm… I'm South Zinnia! I'm not from around here, but I was thinking that maybe we could play!" They REALLY hoped that this guy would say yes. To their relief, the fellow kit smiled back. "Sure! I'm Nature by the way." They swatted the ball back with their tail, hitting Zinnia in stomach. Nature looked apologetic, but Zinnia laughed it off. "It's fine!" They said before they pushed the ball with their legs, propelling it into the air. It landed with a thud a few metres away from the two cats, and they both looked at each other with a determined look in there eyes.

Zinnia didn't know how long they had been tossing that ball up in the air for, because they woke up next to Nature. They must have fallen asleep. But when Zinnia looked around, they realised they were actually inside the hut. "Oh good, you're awake." A voice came from above. It was slightly gruff and cold, but still friendly. Reminded Zinnia of someone they knew. "Sou-" They looked up and cut themselves off. The cat was a brown tabby, but their stripes were more broken up then South Shell's. Oh, and they had no white on them. "You must've had a good day out with Nature." The cat smiled. "I'm Neva, their parent." Her face shifted to look like he just realised something. "Actually, your father came a few hours ago. I told him you were here. He's near the front door. I'll inform him your awake." He exited. Nature stirred and stretched. "You're going home?" They said groggily. Zinnia nodded "Probably." Nature sighed. "Will you come again?" Zinnia's eyes widened as they looked at Nature. "Of course! Tho I got to ask my dad first. He-" Speak of the devil and it shall appear, Amarizi came in. "I'm not mad, just to start off. I was worried sick though." He started. "We're going home now. It's very late." Zinnia nodded as they got up. No use complaining, especially since they did want to see their brother again. Amarizi looked wrecked in general. "Were you running all around the city to find me or something?" They asked. Amarizi gave them a look that confirmed that suspicion. "Can Zinnia come back?" Nature piped up, head tilted slightly. Amarizi looked at them and nodded. "But this time, no running off!" He snapped lightly at Zinnia. They snickered.

After they had said they're goodbyes, they started walking home. It didn't take long for them to get tired, so Amarizi had picked them up and was carrying them on his back. "So, what did you do today?" He asked, looking over his shoulder to meet Zinnia's dreary gaze. "Nature has this cute ball, so we made this little competition to see who could kick it the highest!" They tried to make their voice higher, but it was hard over the sleepiness that was slowly creeping up on them. "Ah, so. Who won?" Zinnia gave a long sigh. Their dad always liked that kind of information. They liked seeing its face swell with pride whenever their brother did something cool. But… "Me, of course." They beamed. It was a lie, but they had gotten good at it. Their brother taught them how. Honestly, they didn't know who he picked it up from, but they must be a genius! Amarizi gave a laugh that made Zinnia's chest feel warm and fuzzy. "So you must of been the one to kick up that ball. Y'know, if you hadn't gone overboard, I never would've found you. You could've stayed there forever!" It was meant to be a joke, but Zinnia didn't laugh. As much as they enjoyed themselves, they never would have traded family for friendship when they could easily had both, like they know did. They snuggled up to their father as the night crept on, falling into a deep sleep.

October 2022: A Little Bit Of Everything

Curbside find of the day - three vincas & a white begonia. I’m going to try to overwinter them in our carport garage:

Three days of freeze warnings & our tomato plants just have a little purpling of the stems & some leaf curl. They should be frost burned, dark & drooping. I’m amazed:

More cute-ass lines from the Silver fluff fic:

"Well, all the bouquets from the Heroic Collection are on sale right now!" Amy gave him a catalog of Heroic Bouquets. Two of the bouquets caught his eye.

The first one had white acanthus, black roses, black tulips, red zinnias, yellow marigolds, and black petunias with yellow edges on each petal and red stripes in the middle. It was called Shades of the Past. It represented anger, grief, sorrow, and resentment, but also hopefulness, longevity, and mystery.

"It's perfect for him..." He gasped.

The second one had light blue irises, bunches of light gray baby's breath, white poppies, yellow roses, white acanthus, and silver edelweiss. It was called Bright Future. It represented kindness, friendship, bravery, optimism, and timeless determination.

Silver's eyes started to water. "I'm so honored to have a bouquet based on me." He wiped his tears and sniffled before speaking again. "I'd like a Silver bouquet and a Shadow bouquet, please. I'm seeing him tomorrow, so I'd like his bouquet to be made tomorrow, if that's okay."

"Shades of the Past, Ice Cream Innocence, Tantalizing Thievery, Courage and Might, Ray of Hope, Bright Future..." Blaze read. She read the next one and gasped, nearly dropping her ice cream. "Princess of Flames... That's me..."

The Princess of Flames bouquet was a beautiful arrangement with a yellow chrysanthemum, light purple gladioli, flame tulips, lavender, light purple heather, and pink roses. It represented beauty, wisdom, strength, kindness, royalty, and a burning passion that couldn't be extinguished.

"It's... it's... beautiful. I'd like to buy one." She nearly cried.
