Eclipse redesign/headcanons

This one… there’s A LOT I wanna talk about

It might not seem like it but this design was actually the most difficult of them all. At first I had no idea what to do with Eclipse because it’s much easier for me to work on designs when they have a certain theme/aesthetic like steampunk for Solar, weirdcore for KC, etc. So a couple of brainstorms later I realized I wanna make him look like a zombie. He is basically a walking dead at this point lmao. I took inspiration from mlp infection AUs, pics of abandoned dolls, even watched a horror movie to catch this vibe. The biggest problem was that I couldn’t make it too obvious: no ripped clothes or broken limbs and visible teeth because his body is new and I doubt his creator would make him look like an actual zombie for whatever reason. So I decided to play with shapes instead: make him look like a distorted version of Solar as if creator has a very vague idea on how dca models look.

I think I managed to do that. I hope so

It’s got it all folks!

Taking place after the Bonfire of the Dolls (end of Act lll), Eclipse is a haunted doll- once one of hundreds, but now one of the few left not condemned to the purging bonfires that consumed New Albion. The two spirits inhabiting this doll don’t remember their name in life, or who it was that called them back up, but they each answer to Sun and Moon respectively depending on the time of day. When it’s Sun speaking through the radio in their chest, the volume turns up and the channels skip sporadically. Moon tends to stick to short clips of a single channel, but with a terrible, gravely quality to the sound.

You, on the other hand, are an enforcer. It’s your job to find stray dolls (and disobedient citizens) and to put them down. But when you come across this strange celestial doll, something about them gives you pause… now you’re the very kind of fugitive you were meant to hunt down, hiding this haunted doll and trying to unravel the mystery of their dual existence and their obscured past.

What does sun and moon or eclipse if he included thoughts about there is many different versions such as daycare attendant, mers, gods, flowers, fairies, cryptics, aliens, vampires, steampunks, cyberpunk, ihops, candies, humans, cowboys, mafia, pirates, naga, magical beings, worms etc etc of themselves created by the love of artists and writers? And which one of it peak their interests the most?

It's incredible! Humans are so creative!! I like the one where I'm a DRAGON! Ohh, I love candy ones, there's a candy store too!

There's a lovely butterfly one. A firefly squid one, too. Those are good. (What's ihops? Is that a rabbit one?)

We like the cryptid and knight ones.

Sun was easy because I already knew he likes dragons and candy. The OTHERS? Fought for my life to think of what AUs they would like

Was blissed with a smidgeon of drawing inspo~

You give me 20' Eclipse and I raise you to EIFFEL TOWER HEIGHT ECLIPSE

Followup pics from dis post, basically pics from a fic I'll never write. Kinda figured the plot would be something like... (rant below)

in a post-apocalyptic steampunk au or somethin where humans were once duking it out against each other or another enemy using giant "titans" (beeeeeg animatronics), Eclipse was the final weapon to end the war... but went went rouge and started raging against anyone who stood in his way.

Sun and Moon were tasked to stop him, but got too damaged in the process. At the very least they managed to damage Eclipse enough that he went into a longass dormancy...

Until a couple centuries later, when you, a dumbass, shows up and somehow revive him. Maybe you're a futuristic mechanic who happens to love experimenting with ancient technology. Maybe you were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Who can say? I sure can't.

Was kinda thinking you encountered Sun first and revived him without realizing it, so he'd eventually come and team up w/ you. Not sure about Moon.

Oh and the ribbons on their arms are like army crests. Eclipse either has the same ones as Sun and Moon bc he fought in the same army or he took them after defeating them (or at least thinking he did)

MEANWHILE IN HOME SWEET BAR AU🍻

Eclipse, Ruin and all of the Infernal Machine staff are standing outside... As the sound of something large shuffling around inside can be heard. Along with some strange bird calls...

Eclipse: Alright... Who did it? I'm not mad I just want to know. Who put an emu in my bar?

Bartender 1: Honestly Eclipse, I have no idea. I just came back from the stock room and it was right there... And then it chased me out.

Bartender 2: Yeah I just walked in to start my shift and it was there. It had hate in its eyes. It looked like it was going to frickin mangle me so I backed up and went out the same way I came in.

Eclipse: (Sharp inhale) Oh... I think I can beat it in the HATRED department.

Ruin: Eclipse don't, I'm calling animal control.

Eclipse: That'll just take too long, it's a stupid bird. I've got it. (Goes in to deal with the big angry flightless bird)

Bartender 1: ...You think he can get rid of it?

Ruin: (Sighs) Well, Eclipse has a sea of untapped rage... But if the entire army of Australia couldn't beat these things, I don't think he's going to be very successful here.

(It's like the sound effects of Solar vs Jack, although with a lot more swearing and bird calls)

Bartender 2: Still... Who let's an emu into a bar? Was it a prank?

Bloodmoon: (Nobody even noticed he was coming up behind, initially for a kill... But now intrigued by the conversation) What is an emu?

The two human bartenders jump, Frank waves and Ruin is unfazed as he's looking up the number of animal control.

Ruin: A big angry flightless bird that Eclipse is most likely fighting off with a broom... Trying to get it out of the bar. But I think it's winning the fight.

Bloodmoon: (Chuckles and races inside, sensing a challenge)

The sounds increase 10x now peppered with the sounds of Bloodmoon laughing and snarling... Before all goes suddenly still... And Eclipse, rather disturbed, pokes his head out of the main door. Although it's clear he's splattered with a lot of blood.

Eclipse: ...okay... So somebody go around and try to drag one of the dumpsters out here to the front. We gotta dispose of an 80 pound dead bird... Wait... Oh gross... A... A 76 pound dead bird, no wait... Damn he's still eating it... 70 pounds? ...65 pounds... Wait... Wait DON'T YOU DARE THROW UP!!!

Ruin: (After a moment, changed from looking up animal control to something else...) Ah yes hello, Grimsly Crime Scene Cleaners? My name is Ruin and I am inquiring to see if cleaning up a mutilated emu in the middle of a Steampunk Bar might be something your services cover? Ah... Yes? Oh that's covered in your cleaning packages? Jolly good, I shall see you in a bit then!

They never speak of this incident again...

First we got @opudontdonut 's Nightmare Au Sun and Moon with some Y/N doodles, had a lot of fun trying out shading with the watercolor brush :D

Some doodles of @castercassette 's cowboy Au (Brain rot ain't going anywhere, instead it has settled in and continues to grow), @sycopomp and @madame-mongoose 's Ooie Y/N (Only one chapter in and I already want to hug them and tell them everything's gonna be ok ;;) Aaaand @maudiemoods 's Alien AU Eclipse (He's a deranged cannibal and I love him).

Then we have a new AU of mine, where the reader is an undercover cop who got their mech prosthetic arm busted and needs to seek the help of some automaton toy makers. The designs are inspired by these previous drawings of mine.

(Prosthetic would work like the Automail in full metal alchemist)

Then we got my very own Mer Sun/Moon but they're koi fish, details of how the story would go and full colored design here.

And to round up here we got some relevant designs for the next chapter of my possesed reader fic + possed reader doodles :D

Man this took a while to finish (it didn't help I was kind of rushed cuz of school, just so last minute I didn't go :P) Hope you all like it tho (the steampunk ones are dedicated to my good pal @bittysteam cuz I know how much they like them 💛)

The Demon Butcher of Faz Street

Man I am pulling in a lot of characters for this one.

So, thanks to the Monty and Puppet podcast (I am in extreme dislike for Monty rn, fight me) I got an idea for a new AU thanks to what Bloodmoon said.

He could absolutely be a butcher and that sparked an idea.

Steampunk inspired 1700's based AU in the city of Altair, on Faz Street...

Bloodmoon is a butcher and will be starting off as Harvest Moon, a kind soul who just wants to live in peace with his little family.

But...Eclipse, the city Chief of Altair and his Deputy Chief Monty*, are always up to no good.

That is all I am revealing right now. I'm currently working on the ideas, plots and story line.

February was a pretty good month! I read some books I really loved (and a couple that were simply meh), I got in a father-daughter visit and had really good luck at Scrabble, the weather was mostly not awful, and even if inventory at work took longer than expected, I survived it without brain mush, which has happened before. I am still the fastest scanner! My title holds.

Regular readers will be unsurprised to learn that Eve by Cat Bohannon and Mirrored Heavens by Rebecca Roanhorse were my top reads of the month, or that What Feasts At Night by T. Kingfisher ranks third. My T. Kingfisher problem is at least a year old, after all. (Also I read a couple delightful picture books, so be sure to click through to find them!)

I'm personally more surprised by my lowest picks, because they both sounded so up my alley but fell flat for nearly completely different reasons. The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store ended up feeling disjointed and like it was trying for a theme it couldn't quite grasp, and A Market of Dreams and Desires hit all kinds of tropes I love, right down to random Dickens references and weird steampunk machines, but tied everything together a little too neatly for me. Ah well.

And right in the middle of my list is my sole physical TBR read of the month: The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz. This managed to tick off "Canadian author" and "classic" at the same time, so I get triple points. (This might have had a hand in me picking it.) Duddy has aged surprisingly well, in that it's still pretty fast-paced and amusing and also in that Richler wrote it with the understanding that scam artistry, hypermaterialism, and misogyny were bad and y'know what? They still are. I would recommend if you're looking for a Canadian teen anti-hero, more than anything. Duddy is a trainwreck and you can't look away.

I managed to get through the month with only three books hauled. (We won't talk about ARCs but the book fairies were kind.) The Unfortunate Traveller and Under a Pendulum Sun were bought during the habitual father-daughter bookstore date, and both because I never thought I'd see them and figured I might never see them again. The Unfortunate Traveller is essays and travel writing by a guy who co-wrote with Shakespeare and I didn't know it even existed. Under the Pendulum Sun was recced to me somewhere (here? bookish website algorithms?) and since it's essentially a gothic novel with properly weird fairies, it's been on my list.

The third book was a total surprise. Apparently I helped crowdfund it in 2019 and they've only just managed to get it printed and also I said I wanted a physical copy? The things we learn. Anyway, it's essays on aromanticism, agender identity, and asexuality so that tracks.

And I know I said I wasn't going to talk about ARCs but I got some good ones this last month and also in January, and there's a lot of them that are out or soon to be out and I'm having that problem where I want to be reading all of them at once. March is going to be interesting and probably a little panic-inducing.
