(I DEARLY love that episode, it's the first KND I saw and solicited my love for Wallyand Kuki. Who doesn't want boy brave enough to fight for you? )

Maybe not an interesting answer, but within my Bookends universe, that episode played out exactly as we saw it. If anything, Wally/Kuki look back on it and assume they were imagining the adventurous aspects of it. But the KND is real! It's just that, sadly, my Wally and Kuki have been decomissioned and now just think they imagined the whole thing.
I guess this would also be a good place for me to declare my fic as either AU or canon-adjacent.
