no but like. spy x family shows time and again that you need not just the larger picture but also to take into account what's closer to home

[redacted]'s dad pointing out that ostanians aren't monsters, but still slapping his own son and making [redacted] terrified to even consider lying to him.

donovan desmond. regardless of whether his role in government is "in the right", he still prioritises his aims over his family. both damian and demetrius have estranged relationships with him and I don't even know where to start with whatever is going on with melinda.

handler. lost her own family and this forms part of her current motivation towards heading off war. but it's shown that her personal life is in tatters. that she's only living for her job with nothing at home for her anymore. it's unhealthy for her, but the connection with her new dog is a start.

twilight. increasingly at odds between "his mission" and his family. and yet, the whole reason for his mission is to protect the smiles of children. to make it so that they don't have to experience what he did. if he completes his mission and then leaves, he's still inflicting that same heartache onto his family.

at the same time. twilight's mantra that "ignorance is sin" comes from the right place. if tensions are ignored. if people aren't actively leveraging the information they can obtain. that's how war happens.

all the adult characters have experienced war in some capacity and they recognise the pain and suffering it can cause. that's why they work so hard to avert it. but they have to be careful that they don't echo that conflict down onto their own personal lives and younger generations. that they aren't so held back by the spectre of war that they forget to live for themselves.

So a while ago, I made a post inciting a discussion about Twilight's age (I'm still in the "31/32 years old" boat btw). But of course, probably the thing we all want to know the most is what Twilight's real name is.

I'm still interested in seeing if it actually gets revealed in the future. Naturally, many fans have their own ideas as to what it could be, though some opt for simply referring to him as [REDACTED] for fanfics.

But I did think of something recently.

Since there are a few allusions to James Bond already (I mean, Bondman?), it's no surprise that some fans are theorizing that Twilight's name could be James (I'm partial to this as well; I even had an idea that he and Yor could name their son James if they had bio children). But after looking up some names - particularly German names - on one of my favorite name sites 20000 Names, I stumbled across Lukas, which means "from Lucania", which itself possibly derives from "lux", meaning "light". I thought it'd be funny if his real name had a meaning related to "light", since he becomes Twilight.

And then I did some more digging to find a suitable last name for him. I stumbled across the German surname "Rosenfeld", which means "field of roses" (at least according to where I found it). And because I'm Twiyor trash, I thought it'd be very fitting for him to have a last name related to the woman he marries ('cause Yor's Thorn Princess; aka, roses have thorns, in case you couldn't figure it out).

So in short, one idea I have for Twilight's real name is Lukas Rosenfeld.

But once again, I'm merely thought rambling lmao. What do you think? What ideas did you have for what Twilight's real name could be?

My next Spy x Family ramble post could be about Twiyor having twins, so watch out for that, maybe 💀

(EDIT: I forgot to mention this, but the reason I made Twilight's initials LR is because it's very notable that most of his fake names began with either an L or an R, so I figured the reason for that is because they'd derive from the initials of his real name. That's just one idea, of course 🤷‍♀️)

Shikisai 色彩: Musings

When I first watched Shikisai 色彩, I had to freeze-frame a lot. What I really liked about it was that compared to the other theme songs, it packed a lot of meaning into each frame.

I felt that this frame very nicely summed up the 'love triangle'. I thought it was an interesting choice to have Yor in the background. Contrast with the Yor-Yuri frame where Loid is not in the picture.

Not only does it mirror Fiona's first visit where Yor was preparing beverages in the kitchen while she talked with Loid in the living room, but it also seemed to represent Yor's overarching presence in Twilight and Nightfall's interactions in this visit, the subsequent tennis arc, and any other time Nightfall interacts with Twilight. That is, she always remains in the back of their minds - for Twilight it is his devotion to his image as Yor's faithful husband, for Nightfall she represents the obstacle to being with Twilight and a target for her irrational dislike.

But at the same time, the reality of Twilight and Nightfall's relationship is shown there in the foreground. There's a table right between them - a real, physical object. Twilight does not come around to her side - he is content to stay where he is. He is standing like his wife - an odd choice for someone as tall as he is - and literally talking down to his guest.

His body language - the dad pose - speaks of familiarity, yes, but also somewhat of exasperation - he does not enjoy working with her, not really, and sees no need to impress her. Also, from this angle, Yor stands between their gazes. He 'sees' Yor before he sees Nightfall.

And that sums up Twilight's indifferent attitude towards Nightfall - simply a kouhai, a competent but overzealous one who still has a lot to learn. But even if Yor isn't a spy, she is his partner, and they are on the same page when it comes to the Forger family.

Also interesting is the direction of the light. Nightfall sits with her back to it. Twilight is facing it. The rays of light are 'pointing' at Yor.

Sadly, Yor's back is to all these; Unable to recognise social cues, she doesn't read the situation for what it is, and plays to the insecurities in her head. As opposed to Nightfall who is looking at them, and becomes more desperate to replace Yor as a result.
