Thinking about the 300th episode and...

We know the Winchesters got that one dinner as a family. I've written before about how John and Mary might have (for the first time) shared stories of the boys as kids. But like... SO MUCH happened after John's death that would blow his fucking mind. So, on a more lighthearted note, some brief interactions that I imagine at the dinner:

Dean: Oh! Dad, guess what?

John: What?

Dean (with Sam and Mary mouthing along): I killed Hitler!

John: ...what?

Dean: :D

Sam: Anyway, turns out the girl I took to prom was a demon...

John: Aw shit, Sammy, I'm sorry...

Sam: Some of my teachers were too.

John: This is why I needed to move you boys around so often. How did you find this out?

Sam: Lucifer showed me while he was possessing me.

John: ... THEE Lucifer???

Sam: Yeah. He spent a long time trying to jump my bones.

Dean: And then when that failed, he jumped Vince Vincente's bones.

John: That hair-rocker??

Dean: And then the president.

John: Am I being pranked right now? Is that what this is?

Mary: Dead serious-- but the devil is dead now. His son is such a sweetheart, though!

John: w h a tttt???

Sam: Hey Dean, remember the suicidal teddy bear?

Dean: Weirdest shit we ever hunted.

John (to Mary): THIS is the prank, right?

Mary: I.... I don't know...

Sam: I think being stuck inside an episode of Scooby Doo was at least as weird as that.

Dean: But way more awesome.

Mary: Now, that DID happen.

John: Don't you boys ever just kill werewolves anymore? ;-;

I was just think that, what if, in maybe season 5, Cas picked up on how a man's wife or girlfriend kiss them goodbye as a send off to a war usually. And maybe Cas decided to kiss Dean goodbye one time and, Dean made a joke about it and maybe said A pat on the back would've done fine, and that's all that comes of it because kripke thought it would be funny.

Then, maybe, skip ahead to season 12 or 13 and it still had never been brought up because it was just a joke, a bit. And maybe Dean and Cas are alone in the bunker kitchen, sharing a beer and Dean says, I'm thinking about 2010. And Cas says Why and Dean says Remember that time you kissed me goodbye? and Cas says Yes that was very embarrassing for me, and Cas thinks of leaving because he's not ready for this, he'll never be ready for this he thinks. And theres a bit of silence before Dean says I think about that a lot. And Dean is not looking at Cas, he's just staring at the counter, and Cas doesn't say anything. They finish their beers and Cas says Me too. Dean goes to bed and Cas goes for a drive and maybe he cries a little and maybe Dean does too because they know they won't bring it up again, at least, not for a long time.

my personal opinion is that it's impossible to "misinterpret" SPN canon because SPN canon is 13 different canons in a trench coat, 8 out of them actively hate each other, 3 of them are only present in interviews and bts content, 5 of them only share one brain cell and at least 4 have been tulpa'd into existence by popular (fandom) culture

for 15 seasons of 20-23 episodes of 40+mins each, there absolutely were not enough filler episodes and there could have been should have been. not enough character study eps. not enough fun eps. not enough altered format eps. and sure af not enough castiel-focused eps.

#they too often go bogged down in the formulaic plot which they veered away from #before giving closure to plot points. not to mention the contradictions by writers who didn't gaf #but with 300+ eps there should've been more delicious filling that was disconnected from the cakey outer layers ok #spn posting #thoughts

About Lebanon….

First of all, I fucking hate the Winchester parents for the simple fact that they’re very bad at being parents. I’ve always found every version of them to be very inherently self-centred people.

Let’s look at the more obvious one first. John only ever lived for Mary, even after she died. Especially… after she died. He didn’t care what his actions did to his kids, he didn’t fucking think about the fact that his kids could very well die because of the danger he put them in again and again. I never saw him trading his soul for Dean’s as his way of “saving” Dean because he knew what was coming. Fuck, he TOLD Dean that he’d have to k*ll his brother, the one person that he’s spent his whole life protecting. How the hell is that “saving” him in any way??? I mean, I could go on forever with regards to what a bad father he was and why every molecule of me hates him. Moving on…

We don’t know a lot about pre-death and post-Dean Mary, right? We just know that she was someone Dean has pie eating memories with but Dean was fucking 4 years old. How much can a kid even remember from so far back? And the Mary that came back in S11 pissed me the fuck off. I understand that it’s verrrrry discombobulating for her but you’re telling me that a mother gets the chance to see her sons, who have been traumatised by life every second since her death, and she chooses to run away with a British psycho maniac???? And she tells Dean that she’s always “mom” but she never behaves like that...

To clarify. I 100% understand Mary and John as John’s love and Mary’s love. I understand them as individuals. I understand them as people grieving for the life they never had. But I will never ever understand them as Sam and Dean’s parents because they never took on those roles. Sam and Dean were the only parents and guardians and protectors that each other had.

Now to come to my point. Lebanon.

That episode is NOT John Winchester from S1. This is NOT the John that Sam and Dean grew up with. This is the John that Dean always wished he was. This is the John that would’ve been a loving father, who let his sons know that he loves them and cares about them and that he’d do anything to protect them. This is the John that Dean needed for closure. This is the John that Dean wishes Sam had. This is the John that says everything that Dean wishes the real John did. This is the John that never existed.

Gosh that episode broke my heart a little more for Sam and Dean. They’re literally each others souls, the light in each others life. S15 is not going to be fun for me at all.
