@dittolicous I'm slapping these tags into a new post bcs it made me realize I might be weird and wanted to know of anyone else is weird in the same way.

Because like my fear of heights only seems to manifest on man-made structures? Before my disabilities got bad enough that I couldn't hike I used to climb up on top of really tall stuff all the time, like I would hang out on the Devil's Bridge in Sedona and not feel even a little bit scared, but like climbing up say the stairs to go down a water slide is enough to make me shake and have to not look down/get too close to the railing at the edge. The idea of going to the top of a skyscraper—and I mean like just the top floor inside, not like an observation deck or anything—makes my hands sweat(did you know they SWAY in the wind?????) but I've hung out right at the very edge of the Grand Canyon several times and I've never felt more at peace.

The only man-made structures that don't bother me are roller coasters(kinda), airplanes, and weirdly some playground equipment? Roller coasters are only fine if we stay moving tho, if the thing broke when we were really high up and we had to get rescued I would be a complete mess, but like, as long as we stay moving I love them. Carnival rides are a mixed bag, I enjoy going on ferris wheels but they do scare the shit out of me, and I just won't get on most other rides that go super high up in the air. Airplanes are okay because I understand the science behind it?? It makes sense(and when you take off you can feel the air catch the plane) so I just don't get scared, though if I was in like a skydiving plane that's open I would probably freak out. The logic behind playground equipment is a mystery to me, maybe bcs it's literally made for climbing?? No clue.

And like, I watch a lot of videos of people climbing cellphone towers and skyscrapers specifically bcs they scare me SO much that it works to get rid of my anxiety if I'm freaking out about something. All of my problems seem so small because at least I'm not on top of one of those fucking things. But I do actually really like watching The Walk, idk it makes me scared so bad but I love it.

The only natural structure that scares me is trees. Idk what it is about trees, especially bcs I do like climbing them, but I usually struggle to get down without help.

This also made me remember I used to have vhs tapes with episodes of the Madeline cartoon and in one episode she and her friend get stuck at the top of the Eiffel Tower and despite the fact that I have actually BEEN TO PARIS and WENT UP TO THE TOP OF THAT VERY STRUCTURE and it didn't bother me so much, that episode made me so scared I couldn't watch it. Like wtf is that about??

I've also always wanted to be able to fly or be a witch like in Kiki's Delivery Service. Idk how my brain would react to that tho since it's impossible, but I assume it would land in the "it makes sense so it doesn't bother me" category.

So yeah idk man-made structures are bad and scary because I guess I just don't trust humans to make sturdy things that won't fall down(aside from airplanes and playground equipment bcs those make sense)?? But mountains and cliffs and stuff have been there for like millions of years so I trust that they will stay under my feet and thus I don't get scared by them at all.

And like I know it's weird that I'm like this because my fiancé is ALSO scared of heights(which I find hilarious because he's 6'3" and when he picks me up so my head is level with his it makes me scared because "the ground is too far away") but he doesn't like going up on top of anything. Airplanes, rollercoasters that go upside down, tall buildings, mountains and other rock structures, it ALL triggers his phobia. He won't even let me open the window shade when we fly together, it's that bad. Idk why I'm not like that.

hey, I saw that you theorised that Abilities are a form of trauma response. I kinda have a similar idea as well—, so I was wondering what your idea of that is.

This is going to be a bit incoherent because I swear I’ve written about this somewhere but I can’t find it so I’ll bullet point some things

My theory on abilities being a trauma response is that when we hear about how a characters ability manifested it’s (as of writing) always in connection to a traumatic event and the ability often connects to their feelings at the time of the event

Atsushi felt powerless and was constantly being hurt, he developed the ability to turn into a tiger that is near impossible to capture and can heal any wound

This was in connection to the specific event of Shibusawas torture

Another example is Akutagawa he developed his ability in the slums when his friends where beaten to death so he got the ability to shield himself and others as well as violently lash out

Akutagawa is also an example of someone who has no way to safely process their trauma and so continually lashes out when he has perfectly good defensive capabilities

Everyone with an ability has one that can be seemingly linked to some kind of trauma in some way as well as their way of protecting themselves because of it

Even characters who’s back story we don’t know

Dazai - Has clearly been hurt has the ability to stop people hurting him (with their ability)

And while it may seem unrealistic that there’s that many severely traumatised people running about it’s important to remember bsd takes place in a postwar society so everyone likely has something going on

I’ve also expressed before that abilities may have a genetic factor, this can also link to the trauma theory

In Psychology it’s well documented that many mental health conditions can have some sort of genetic basis (such as OCD and Schizophrenia) and the symptoms often become apparent after some sort of trauma

The one ability user who’s parents we do know is Kyouka and she has the same ability as her mother which was passed on to her

i’m so sorry if this sounds stupid (i am american 😭) but being from sweden, have you learned english since you were little in school or something? your english is incredible 😭😭 im from new york and here we don’t start learning a language until you’re like 11–12, and its only for 6 years(unless you choose to pursue it further in college). i am, in no way, as fluent in italian as you are in english and it too is my second language 😅 sorry if this sounds dumb or something i am just so curious LOL

i'm not sure about when kids here start getting taught english, but i would assume it's at around age 8? maybe?? i can't remember 😶 but then it's mandatory up until you're 17, but i took two years of extra english bcs it's always been my fave subject :) apparently the first time i spoke in english was when i was about 7, my parents found me talking to some americans (in a headset) while playing online video games, and they were so shocked because i hadn't started taking english classes yet so they didn't understand how that could happen 🤠 in sweden everyone also chooses a third language in grade 6 (age 12 ish), most schools offer spanish, french and german classes. then you study that language for four years, and usually one more year in high school. so i had 5 years of german but pretty much all i can remember is how to say "i'm a potato" 🤡

but i mean i think it's much easier to get fluent-ish in english in today's society, especially if you spend as much time online as i do lmao. you just get exposed to the english language everywhere, in a way that i'd assume you don't get to italian? (excuse me if i'm wrong!!) like even young kids watch tiktoks or yt vids or read instagram comments... and i have this memory of me sitting in a car with two girls that i used to coach a few years ago (when they were maybe 10 years old) and seeing them play roblox and chatting (in perfect english)(or, at least perfect roblox-english) with strangers about trading some items......

old mighty med interviews? What do you know about them? I must know-

hsfdffdjj…I was not actually expecting anyone to send in an ask, thank you ^_^ tbh i was mainly referring to content in mighty med interviews that I personally find interesting and less what I know about them. However some interviews raise interesting questions like how in this interview (idk if this actually counts as an interview bc they’re just being asked things about the show but it’s close enough) they play a promotional clip where kaz and oliver are playing an online game together (in a set that’s never used in the show) and jake short says that k&o really like videogames when iirc that’s not really a thing?? in the show?? other than the dance ep ofc. so maybe it was supposed to be but then it was too irrelevant to the shows premise so they gave the trait to Jordan? I don’t know if the writers even played video games considering the arcade game she plays in the first episode has her blowing up unicorns (???) but back on the interview I’m also pretty sure the set of the clip directly after is from this ad. this set is also never used in the show. the ad even uses the tagline “it’s just how they operate” even though it’s “saving the people who save people”. realistically these were probably made earlier in development, but i think it would be funny if the marketing team just straight up didn’t watch the show (haha imagine wouldn’t it be so crazy if a team working with mm didn’t watch it wouldn’t that be so silly) so the old interviews may give some insight into bts stuff! Sick! Another thing is this article (comfort read btw) which has transcribed parts of an interview w the mm cast and crew where they explain some of the thought behind skylars character and…

Also in both the video interview and the article, k&o are respectively described as the gas and the break by their actors+the shows creators and it’s just so.. OTL (<- man on his hands and knees)…. bsp even says “you can’t drive a car without both” (paraphrasing) and it’s like. ack. eek. them... this analogy was probably told to bsp+js and now we get to see the intentions with which they’re written maybe! anyway i hope I answered your ask correctly. knkdz in the bsd IDV collab intros will always be so funny to me- Dazai is literally introduced as a 'member of the Detective Agency, partner of Doppo Kunikida' and it goes on abt how he likes to tease kunikida and how well they work together and then Kunikida's description says absolutely nothing abt Dazai - he does Not exist

(kunikida (and Yosano) ended up being scrapped for political reasons too so there's just?? a bunch of mentions of Kunikida now without him actually being there LMAO -)

So, what's the deal with airplane food

i genuinely don't understand what capitalist countries stand to gain by fighting each other instead of collaborating economically. like why does the us warmonger against china when we would benefit more from trade? ostensibly it's for moral reasons, but regardless of the veracity of any given claim i think the united states has shown itself to prioritize economic success over human rights on a number of occasions especially during the cold war. i suppose i assume most wars are waged on the grounds of economic gain (natural resources, global political power, straight up money in the form of the military-industrial complex) but you could make an equally solid argument that just as many are waged over purely social and political issues- ethnic and religious conflict, blind nationalism, the whims of a dictator. it just confuses me at times, i guess. i have a hard time believing that the united states is bound and determined to wage war against china over human rights abuses, infringing on other countries sovereignty, and neo-colonialism in africa when we've propped up fascist dictators in many a country who've done far worse. is it literally just the association with communism? because surely whatever evil fuckers actually want war know that china is very far from communist right now. is it just nationalism? the idea that we must be on the top of the totem pole, even if our economy would stand to gain from trade? because i suppose i could believe that, but i think if that was true we wouldn't have gotten to where we are today in the first place. blegh. at the end of the day i am also ignoring the fact that many many different groups of people want war against china for reasons ranging from sinophobic jingoist nationalism to a genuine belief that the united states is a global moral watchdog determined to establish ~democracy~ worldwide. but there is a definite slant to media coverage on china right now, genuine attempts at disinformation, and given that the media in the us is so deeply tied to corporate interests it leads me to believe that there has to be some economic motive here, and it frustrates me that i can't figure out what it is.

I got a job in my field but I had to turn it down because they simply weren't offering enough money. It's beyond insulting to be offered minimum wage when I have a master's degree and relevant work experience.

re: last post I genuinely do think each ygo series has its own charm and I think its so funny when ppl get attached to the spinoffs esp. like they all have their merits and theres not rly a BAD start series, it just depends on ur own tastes!! theres something for everyone!! I think its rly fun to hear ppl explain WHY their favorite series is their favorite, too, when theyve seen more than (1) series

why is nova bad rep?

nova is a travesty to me bc shes very fun and i really enjoy her as a character in every way besides the things i think are uncomfortable and the bit with the haircut is objectively the funniest way to handle a trans char and also says a lot abt gender in jv's time period which i find very interesting!! there are good things abt nova and there are even good things abt her being trans and i do not think she is written to b intentionally mean spirited but like in my personal opinion the way they go about like ..... the specific way they write her fixation on nureyev isss uh quite poorly handled and sort of uncomfortable? it can call to mind some sort of unfortunate stereotypes about the idea of trans women harassing and coercing cis men and it isnt great

and like ive said jv has trans characters who absolutely can also brush up against being unintentionally transphobic due to being pretty shitty people but Dont end up Actually being so, and i think theres a few reasons for that that nova fails to dodge - for one thing, their transness is never ... Highlighted in any way while theyre doing the shitty stuff. which isnt to say theyre not explicitly trans - they absolutely are, cecil is pretty clearly stated to be identical to cass and has a very feminine voice and pilot uses they/them pronouns the entire time. we Know that theyre trans, but theres never any scenes that explicitly .... Point Out their transness in any explicit way, so when they do their shitty stuff we arent necessarily Fixated on their transness its not being called to attention . nova has an entire scene that points out the fact that she Is a trans woman . and itd still be uncomfortable if it wasnt there and i dont think the scene is inherently bad on its own its funny i like it but in context it does make it feel More iffy 2 me because it is explicitly Reminding you that yes dear listener!! she is trans!! in a way that other trans charas who are shitty ppl arent

another thing is that the main people that those other two examples are put in juxtaposition with is juno, who is also trans. JUNO is the one who calls cecil an apartment complex of demons, JUNO is actively trying to take down pilot. it makes it feel less like a Trans Thing to be fucked up because the person going hey, this is fucked up youre the worst, is Also trans . and we can go to cecil for another more relevant example of this which is that cecil is kinda obsessed with juno too!! hes a little bit of a freak abt him!! but it doesnt feel like a trans thing because because juno is Also trans and hes like normal . nova doesnt Have that because he rfixation is very specifically on nureyev who is, as far as we know and can presume, a cis man. she is being juxtaposed by a Cis character instead of a Trans one. which is worsened by the fact that "trans woman harassing a cis guy who is not interested at all and is taken" is again not great either

and like you could change all those issues of course but tbh you dont even need to?? yeah itd be better if the subject of her affections was trans or if less attention was called to it but like literally you could also just write her like normally . tbh . you could literally just write her normally and make her not feel so pushy and like it would be fine . you could still make her have a huge thing for a cis guy character and make said cis guy character uninterested and just not write it in the specific way that they do that to me personally feels sort of unsavory especially given that she is the first like . canonical explicit trans woman in jv (as far as i remember) . its not hard to write characters normally is my conclusion
