“That’s it, I’m gonna be late for work. You two,” Mrs. Wakowski gestures towards Sonic and Tails, “keep away from Knuckles.”
“Roger that!” Sonic salutes dramatically, and Tails follows suit,
“Noted, Mrs. Wakowski,”
Mrs. Wakowski manages to phone another friend to give her a ride to work, still fuming, while Sonic shrugs and figures he’ll spend time with Tails. They leave the house to go for a walk- it was a beautiful day after all. Sonic picks up baseball gloves and a ball on the way out of the house, and Tails swishes his tails in excitement when he spots the objects, setting foot out of the house.
A few minutes later you walk in through the doors, a few bags in hand.
“Hellooo!” You call out.
With no response, you raise a brow. Usually, the trio greets you. You then remember Mrs. Wakosky having work, but that still doesn’t explain the other three. You shrug it off, unloading the groceries on the countertop. You wash a bowl of grapes, walking around with them on the search for your favorite echidna.
You first check out the workout room, but he’s nowhere to be found. Then, the couch where you’re expecting to find Sonic and tails, but still nothing. Eventually you make it to the attic where Knuckles resides, a grape being tossed into your mouth.
“Knux?”
He grunts in response, not bothering to turn his head towards you. You tilt your head at him, raising a brow. Then you finally ask him what’s on your mind;
“Knux, what are you doing on the floor?”
“I have been grounded.”
You think for a moment, then chuckle.
“Hun, that doesn’t mean you have to lie on the ground. I expected you to be the type to still train or work out while grounded,”
“I cannot go to the workout area,”
“Are you making up excuses? You? Surely you can still do pushups-and sit-ups,” you teased.
He swiftly sits up, exclaiming; “You are a genius!”
You giggle as he sets off to start doing pushups, doing them at an ungodly speed. You always were impressed by his strength, praising him often. Although he claimed that your praises meant nothing, you couldn’t help but notice the way he smiled and sped up whatever exercise he was doing at the time.
You watched him for a little while longer, eating your grapes before getting an idea. You stood next you him and he paused his now one-handed pushups, looking up at you,
“What do you want?” You knew he didn’t mean to sound rude, so you smiled and replied, “I was just thinking- what if I sat on your back as an extra challenge?”
You’ve done it before, he was the one to ask you to do it last time.
“Excellent idea! Though, that is no challenge for me.”
He got back into pushup position, and you quietly sat on his upper back, attempting to balance. Once he counted 10 more pushups, your hand hovered in front of his mouth, grape in hand. He froze for a second, analyzing it, before taking a bite and humming. From then on, you offered him a grape for every 10 pushups. It seemed like a good way to keep him going, as he seemed to speed up.
Once the bowl of grapes was finished, you encouraged him to take a break. It wasn’t easy of course, but you got him to hold off on pushups until you came back with a bowl of other fruit- peaches, apple slices, and mangoes. You came back only to find him doing sit-ups. You sighed and he told you between soft grunts- “I am not doing pushups, like you asked.”
“Well- yes, but the whole point was to give you a small break. How about let’s pause for a little and spend some time together instead?”
He squinted at you, glancing over at your soft smile- one he couldn’t resist. You grabbed a few pillows and blankets from around the house while you got Knuckles to pick a movie that he’d be interested in. When you came back, he hadn’t chosen one, claiming that he only wanted to watch something you would enjoy. Very sweet and all, but you wanted to make sure he didn’t just get up and start working out halfway through the movie. So, you picked three movies of varying genres, and he picked the action one out of them- the one you already assumed he’d like most.
As it played in the background, you asked him what had gotten him grounded.
“The blue hedgehog wants me to ‘relax,’” he answered with air quotes.
You nod, humming, focusing on the movie. After you’d gotten all snuggled up in the blankets and pillows, he sat a few feet away from you.
“You don’t have to be a stranger, y’know. Come on, sit closer,” You muttered in a low voice, not wanting to talk over the movie too much. He contemplated for a moment, sitting much closer to you now. You offer him an apple slice, holding it to his lips.
It doesn’t take long before he’s asking you about the movie and why people are doing certain regular human things, you enjoying his short excited comments. He punches the air and kicks his feet when he’s excited over a scene in the movie, too adorable.
Eventually, he gets tired out and you feel a weight on your shoulder. You smile at the scene before you- you’ve never seen him so calm and peaceful. You’ve seen him happy, you loved playing games with him and the boys, but this was different. Seeing him sleeping was something unusual, as he rarely slept around others. ‘This must mean he feels completely comfortable,’ you thought with a content expression.
You lean back, putting the plate of snacks aside, and his head falls to your chest. As it rises and falls, he snuggles into you in his sleep. You begin to gently pet his fur, taking a moment to press a soft kiss to it. He wraps his arms further around you, tugging you impossibly closer, then loosening his grip.
It doesn’t take long for you to follow him into dreamland, soft snores emitting from you. Your hand still on his quills, head resting on the pillow behind you.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Hours later, Sonic, Tails, and Mrs. Wakowski come back home only to find knuckles relaxing in your hold.
“Huh, I can’t believe I didn’t think of that. He does always seem to calm down around them.”
“I knew they had a thing for eachother!”
“Sonic! Shh, let them rest,”
Tails quietly closes the door, letting the two of you relax in eachother’s arms.

(guy who spent way too long on this image) hiiii :3
This is a drawing I made for my fic about Metal being abandoned for a decade after Robotnik's death and how Sonic ends up finding him & trying to restore him. It's also kind of a deep dive into Metal's personality and character. This is my first ever finished multichapter fic!! :D

tail wags
Sonic’s ear flicked at the sound of grass rustling behind as he rolled up the two sleeping bags. He was trying to rush so they could get on the move again, having gotten up and moving pretty late today. It had been a lazy morning for the two of them. Instead of running and flying down the road, the two had cuddled up and spent the early sunlight talking about whatever came to mind. Neither of them were really up to being too active today, but the hedgehog knew better than to stay in one spot for too long.
So he forced them up, but let the kid sit out of packing up to stretch his tails before they moved out. It was strange how hard it was to get on his feet this morning, the weight of the kid on his chest more comforting than he ever thought it could be. He didn’t like touching other people. He tried not to let it show around the kid, but physical contact made him want to physically curl away and bolt. He didn’t really get why, but it just wasn’t for him. Or– he thought it wasn’t for him. But somehow that kid managed to blow his mind again. It was insane how often he did that, but he supposes that’s just a trait you have to have in order to keep up with the fastest thing alive. There was more rustling, so Sonic decided to turn around and look at what was the cause of it. His brow furrowed as a confused smile curved his muzzle as he found the cause of the gentle noise.
Tails had his tails pinned against the ground, face scrunched up in annoyance. He hadn’t noticed the tween was looking at him, his attention fully on the two fluffy appendages. His ear flicked a few times, showing he was trying to solve something. "Whatcha doin, bud?" He asked, snorting when the fox jumped. The kit’s ears swiveled before focusing in on Sonic, his head soon turning to look over at him. "My tails aren't listening." He said, lifting a hand to point at his namesakes which allowed one of them to slip free. It started wagging behind him, causing him to huff and reach around to try and catch it. "Whaddya mean they aren't listening?" Sonic asked as he stuffed the sleeping bags into the backpack. It was a tight fit with the two of them, but he learned how to work around it. When they first started traveling together Tails had insisted he slept on the ground, but the tween refused. He lent his to the kid for the first few weeks until he had saved enough money to buy another. Sometimes he would still find loose fox hair in it. "They keep moving when I think about you even though I’m not telling them to!" The fox complained, having successfully recaptured his rogue tail. He held it and the other to his chest, but they still twitched excitedly against him. "Awh, kid.” A fond laugh was pulled out of the older as he walked over to the kid. Tails’ ear flicked as he approached, “They're wagging. Just means you're happy" He explained, reaching down to affectionately muse the kid’s bangs. "But it's never happened before," Tails said, frowning at the appendages. “It’s weird.” “Nah, it’s happened.” Sonic shook his head. He imagined it hasn’t happened much in the kid’s life yet, but he’d definitely caught the twin tails thrashing giddily behind him. “I’ve seen ‘em do it.” That got him to look up, brow furrowed as he soaked up the new information. He was like a little sponge, though squeezing him wouldn’t get him to let go of all the things he’d learned. You’d probably have to pry it straight out of his brain. “What about you? Does your tail ever wag?” The kit asked, head tilting enough to cause his ears to flop over. Sonic shrugged, reaching out to tug at one of the ears despite the swats he received from the younger’s hands. “Sure it does,” He said, snorting when the kid shook his head to free his ear from the hedgehog’s hold which caused it to hit him in the face. “You just haven’t seen it cause it’s small.” “I’ve never seen my tails wag.” Tails pointed out, glancing back at the mentioned appendages. His lips pursed as he considered the new information before turning to look at the tween again and pulled a face. “Are you lying again like you did with the Easter Bunny?” Sonic laughed at that, having forgotten about the times he tried to tell the kid about the usual holiday characters. No matter how hard he tried, he just couldn’t convince the kid things like the Tooth Fairy existed. The first time Tails lost one of his teeth Sonic had tried to swap it out for a few mobiums. It took quite a while to even convince the kid to put it under his pillow, but the promise of mint candy got him to comply. Sonic had done a good enough job at being quiet when sneaking around to his sleeping bag, but no amount of silence could get that tooth without waking the kit up. The second the tween had touched his pillow, Tails shot into a sitting position as if expecting it to have been a badnik. There was just no way to get that kid to believe in them. It didn’t help that he held pretty much all the logic in the world in his tiny, 5 year old brain. Every time Sonic tried to make up a lie for one of Tails’ questions he’d get debunked.
“Nah, this one’s true, keed.” He shook his head, reaching around to poke one of the tails. It twitched in response, “You’re too little to keep all your happiness in ya, which causes your tails to wag.” Sometimes it was odd to teach the kid things outside of breaking badniks. It shouldn’t be. He was 5. He was at the age when kids would go to school to start their journey in learning what they needed to know as they grew up. Tails hummed, searching the older’s face to try and find something that would indicate that he wasn’t telling the truth. “That seems.. weird.” He decided, face scrunching as he tried to work it out in his head. “I have a way to prove it to ya.” Sonic grinned, knowing that Tails would really not like this idea. But curiosity blinded him of the mischief brewing in the older, his head tipping to the side in a silent question. They usually didn’t ask or say things that were obvious in their body language. Neither of them saw the point in it. “Tickling.” His grin widened. He enjoyed messing with the kid, being purposefully dramatic to get any sort of laugh out of him. Really, he just enjoyed hearing it. He wasn’t really sure why, but it was a more calming sound than anything nature could provide. “No!” The fox’s reaction was instant. He was in the air in a second, out of the hedgehog’s reach. Sonic laughed up at him, rising to his feet while holding his hands up in a mock surrender. “Alright, alright, I won’t.” He promised, nodding at the kit to land back down. Tails’ eyes narrowed, but he did as he was told. His feet softly touched the ground a few steps away from the tween for good measure, but it didn’t really matter when you considered the older’s speed. But Sonic was a hedgehog of his word, so instead of poking at the kit he settled for a hair ruffle. His hand was still swatted away with a pout anyway, but the twin tails swayed happily behind the kid. “See?” He pointed at the appendages, smiling as the younger blinked at them. “You just don’t realize when it happens.” Tails considered them for a few moments more before frowning. “I really don’t think they used to do that.” He mumbled, watching as his tails wagged. Sonic frowned as well, how could a kid go so long without ever feeling happy enough for his tails to wag? They shared a silence for a few seconds until the kit suddenly beamed, grinning up at the hedgehog. “Maybe they were broken and you fixed them!” And oh, if that didn’t make his heart swell up in the most painful way. Nothing about this kid was broken. Being born a little different wasn’t a bad thing and he hated that this poor kid had been convinced it was. If anyone was bad or broken it was that stupid village. They were the ones who tormented a child because they didn’t like that he stood out a little. But he didn’t mention it. Tails never did like talking about Westside, so Sonic tried to avoid it whenever he could. “I’unno. Maybe they just now figured it out.” The kid shook his head at that, smile still bright as ever, “They couldn’t have, I didn’t even know they were broken in the first place. Well— I did, but not like that.” “Okay–“ It was Sonic’s turn to shake his head before crouching down to be at eye level with the fox. “They weren’t broken, kiddo. They just needed a second to catch up.” He said, voice firm as he placed a hand on the younger’s shoulder. Tails’ head tilted again as he thought those words over, “..Like me on our runs?” “Exactly!” Sonic grinned, he didn’t even think of making that connection. “Nothin’ wrong with it, they just needed time.” The fox pursed his lips and nodded, satisfied with that answer so the tween ruffled his bangs as he stood back up. With his hands on his hips, he glanced around at what remained of their little campsite.
He had packed up everything, but the light indents in the grass still outlined where everything was. “Speaking of our runs, I think it’s ‘bout time we blow this joint.” He said, turning to look back at the kit with a hand outstretched, “whaddya say, keed?” Tails beamed back, his smaller hand immediately grabbing the older’s with a large smile, “Let’s speed!"
happy wednesday

"The Shatterverse is saved, the prism shards are back where they belong, and Green Hill Zone is restored. However, Nine cannot let go. Afraid the Roses and Shadow won’t be fast enough to save Sonic, they chase after them — accidentally flying into the gateway, too. Now locked out of their universe, and more importantly, the Grim, what is a lonely number 9 supposed to do?"

Heyo! I know that this series ended months ago, but this cartoon has me in a head grip. This has been cooking since February, and I'm finally ready to post it after two full months of working on it. I enjoyed season 3 and the rest of the series but was unsatisfied with the ending. So, for everyone like me who wants more out of the story, I hope you enjoy this, especially for the ones whose favourite character is Nine, like me. Plenty of other characters will also appear in it, but for now, it Nine centric.
I am incredibly proud of the cover art I made and put a lot of effort into it. Making all those renders for the characters was a serious undertaking, but it looks great, and I had a lot of fun figuring out how to paint foam and water.
I also made a playlist for this fic so if you're looking for fitting music, here it is! (Current and future chapter titles are also inspired by these songs)
The cover ver without the other characters in the water is under keep reading

There had to be something wrong with him.
The two tails were the most obvious. But there had to be something more. There had to be something wrong with him.
Why else did no one want him?
Little Miles curled up in the small cave he'd found for himself, burrowing in a pile of leaves he'd gathered up for a nest of sorts. The cave was far enough away from the village that no one should be able to find him here.
Why did they hate him so much?
He'd taken a few things, but that couldn't be the reason. They were mean to him before that. He only snatched scraps of food when he was really hungry because no one would give him anything and he couldn't find anything in the woods that was edible. And they'd already chased him away multiple times before he'd gotten that hungry that he'd risked sneaking back into the village to grab some food.
It had to be something else. Was it just the tails? Why? He loved his tails. They were warm and good for snuggling. He loved them. Or, he could love them. If it wasn't for everyone else telling him why he should hate them. He could never really hate them.
Maybe he was just a bad kid.
Bad kids took things. Bad kids got in the way. Bad kids weren't wanted.
Even his own parents didn't want him. He had only vague memories of them now, of golden-brown fur a little darker than his and loud voices that were angry a lot. He remembered them telling him to stay and wait, and then never coming back.
Maybe... if he'd waited just a little longer, just a couple more days, they would've come back. Maybe he was just a bad kid like that.
Maybe that's why no one could care about him.
Darkness was falling outside, separating his cave from the rest of the world. The night was always so empty and quiet, with no one around to protect him. He curled his two tails closer around himself, hugging them against his chest.
Was he always going to be alone?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Tails?"
The fox glanced up at the sound of his favorite voice. Sonic was staring at him, head slightly tilted as he studied his face. "You okay, pal? You zoned out there for a sec."
"Yeah, yeah! Just got distracted."
Sonic chuckled and ruffled his bangs. "Imagine getting distracted," he said with a laugh, leaning backwards to lie on the picnic blanket. "I, for one, am ALWAYS focused."
Tails chuckled as he shifted. "Yeah, right."
He glanced around. It was a beautiful day in Green Hill, perfect for the Restoration (and friends) picnic that they'd set up as a celebration of foiling yet another world-ending catastrophe together. Amy, sitting on Sonic's other side, gave him a smile before returning back to whatever she and Sonic had been chatting about a minute ago. Knuckles was leaned back against a tree looking almost peaceful, until Rouge came and started poking at him. All of Team Dark had actually shown up, even Shadow, although he was sitting at the very outskirts avoiding conversation. Cream served out slices of cake to everyone. Her mom was cutting the slices while chatting cheerfully with Vector and the other Chaotix. Silver was showing off his telekinesis for Blaze by making a kite fly even though there was no wind. The Restoration girls; Whisper, Tangle, Belle, and even Jewel and Lanolin; had found all spots in the grass where they were chatting.
Sonic gave him another look, before stretching out his arm and patting the empty spot beside him. Tails grinned and shifted over next to Sonic, curling up into the spot that fit him perfectly. He rested his head on his brother's chest, hearing the soothing thrum of his speedy heartbeat. A comforting sound. The sound of safety, of home.
"You sure you're okay, little bro?" Sonic asked quietly.
"Yeah. I am."
He was more than okay, he realized, as he looked around at his friends. His tribe. His family.
He wasn't alone anymore.
Over the years, Nine had gotten used to the ambience of his underground lab. A calm silence on the best of days, ringing one on the worst but it was his nonetheless. His lab, his safe haven away from the tyrant ruled city above. Away from the monsters who'd brought him nothing but pain and misery.
Underground, it was safe.
The labyrinth of tunnels he knew like the back of his hand, skulking through them as sneakily as a spider in its own web. No citizens knew but the underground system was Nine's territory.
Still, an additional reassurance of security wouldn't hurt. Hence, the password-protected metal door so nobody can catch him off guard in his own home in case they ever stumbled across the lab. He had chosen the perfect spot for his lab, far away from any maintenance tunnels or security rooms, out of sight of any cameras and sentries, away from the patrol routes of the Resistance spies.
The calm isolation helped him work. He had gotten used to the mixture of silence and noise. The humming of lights and machinery, buzz of electricity running through concrete and metal walls, the rumbling vibrations of the train as it passed outside every half hour. It was routine, it was a semblance of a home.
His life was far from great, he didn't even know what a good life is supposed to be except for being left to his devices without getting beaten up. It was a far cry from the years of his childhood - he sometimes forgot he was a child still - when he would be jumped by one or another bully just for having an abnormality. The seven metal appendages he built to fight back covered his abnormality in an illusion of a single tail. Rarely ever he got disturbed about it afterwards, managing to blend in with the crowd whenever he had to venture out and then back in, ignored without a second thought. He preferred it over being the center of some horrid attention.
He preferred his hidden away lab in the bowels of the city over being someone's neighbor in the skyscrapers above. It was too dull and depressing, too noisy. He couldn't work in that environment, with the monotone buzz of sentries and Egg Forcers, the smog that made the air thick and hard to breathe in, the boom of speakers on those darn balloons saying "You're Welcome". Nine would scoff. Welcome, yeah right.
No way he would ever live up there. He wouldn't even be given enough peace to sketch a blueprint, let alone build something. He liked the combination of silence and routinely noise in his isolated lab thank you very much. The muffled screech of the vehicle arriving followed by the deep rumble in the walls before silence fell once more, back to the hum and buzz of his treasured creations and dim fluorescents.
No matter how repetitive, Nine liked the ambience of that place. It helped him think, kept him calm, helped him create to his heart's content. He would sometimes get so lost in his work that day and night blended into one -not that it made much of a difference either way - and he would lose track of the hours.
It was one of those days when someone swivelled him to face towards the person and away from his work desk. That moment, all of Nine's fears and fight or flight instincts had kicked into overdrive.
His home was discovered.
He tried to fight back, scare him away, the persistent and annoying intruder.
Nine believed himself a spider facing a fly that wandered into his web. He didn't expect to get stuck on one of his own threads.
Terror ran through him as the train almost crushed him, and then he was saved.
By the same stranger who had managed to find his place, managed to unlock his door without a single alarm going off in case someone entered an incorrect password.
That day, Nine learned about joy and companionship, felt safe around someone for the first time in his life, learned that there's a lot more to a good life than he could've ever known.
That day, Nine's life had taken a sudden unexpected swerve into the unknown.
The unknown led him to a place even better than the one he had lived in the past handful of years. Silent, isolated, empty, just what his heart had wished. A dream home he never knew he wanted.
The Grim.
What started out with hope and happiness, shoved him through pain and determination and betrayal and anger and heartache. His beacon of hope, his reason to feel joy for the first time in his life felt tainted. It hurt him and yet he couldn't bring himself to rebuild the walls that were taken down, couldn't bring himself to destroy the half-built bridge no matter how much his heart urged him to.
He has seen on the other side, a part of him didn't want to lose the pathway to the other side.
What he didn't look at was the flames of his rage burning all the other places hidden beyond the rest of his walls. His urge to snatch what he needed to fix his broken home and bring colors to it would destroy what lay beyond the bridge. The reason behind his hope and joy and anger and pain.
He would have to destroy that reason to bring back what everyone lost.
And then, Sonic was gone.
And Nine was alone, as was promised to him.
It was what he wanted, wasn't it? What he always wished for. His lab was here, brighter than it was back then, with a much cooler change in aesthetic. A touch of color, a touch of openness, a mark of Sonic still left in the existence of palm trees and a hammock.
He would've loved it if he were here.
The ambience of his lab in the Grim was different than New Yoke. There was the silence he had wanted, the isolation.
But he couldn't bring himself to build things anymore. The silence was too deafening, the echoes of his tool too loud. The lights didn't hum, the buzz of machinery carrying too many painful flashbacks.
He couldn't stop hearing the screams in his memory every time he heard the buzz. Grim was somehow more silent and still louder than New Yoke.
It felt less and less like something that should've been a home and more like a prison.
Why did it feel so much worse even though the situation was much better than New Yoke could ever hope to be, where he had to be constantly alert of everything around him anytime he headed out? Where the air was thick and unbreathable any time he headed outside his lab?
This place had colors but was too lifeless, calm and peaceful but dripping in sorrow.
Was it because his conception of a good life had changed? New Yoke's lab used to feel like an ideal home but that was then. Now thinking back on it, it was so much worse than what he had known.
Sound simulations did nothing to bring him back in the mood. He couldn't create anymore.
He liked the ambience here so much more but...
It was empty. Grim... Heh
The darkness of sleep consumed him and he welcomed it over his pained thoughts.
When he came to, he felt weak, too tired to move. His mind was empty and he felt whole and safe. Home... Nine felt he was seeing things, that he was in a dream when he saw the ones he thought he'd never see again.
Murmured conversations he felt too delirious too remember the words of but knew he had had. He no longer heard the eery silence, nor the loud buzz, just soothing murmur of familiar voices, familiar presence.
That moment, Nine hadn't realized his life would be taking another turn.
That day, Nine finally cried. And things spiraled and turned around for the better. Grim no longer held him contained, he was being taken to his real home, the one he never knew he deserved, the one he never realized he had needed.
Time passed, before he found himself in a lab, same bunk bed and desk and computer screen that he always had but not shrouded in shades of grey nor violet.
The machinery hummed and beeped, the air wasn't thick nor still and gently swooshed around like playful wisps. The light was a combination of white fluorescent and yellow gold, the natural rays holding warmth that tickled his fur. A soothing combination of peaceful silence and gentle noise, distant chirp of flickies, taps and pitter-patter of footsteps sounding through the walls, familiar voices muffled and clear; an ambience he could get used to.
Nine's fingers twitched towards the desk and after so long, he finally built
A Sonic Unbreakable Bond Fic
Tails goes through Sonic’s phone and is embarrassed to find millions of photos of him.
—————
Skyblue8: Hi
Kit: Hi Tails : )
It was just another lazy day at the Hedgehog/Prower residence. Sonic had just gotten home from a week-long adventure, and Tails, as usual, wouldn't leave his brother's side after being away from him so long.
And that's how the two found themselves scrawled over on either side of the couch together. Sonic flipped the page of his book as Tails stretched out some more, resting his feet in his brother's lap and his head on the arm of the couch.
He yawned as he tapped on his Miles Electric some more, a mischievous grin on his face.
Skyblue8: wyd?
Kit: nothin' u?
Skyblue8: hanging with dork older brother
Skyblue8: don't tell him, but I'm the one who sent Amy flowers in his name
Kit: lol
He ignored his feet moving as Sonic shuffled around underneath him.
Kit: nice
Skyblue8: you wanna sneak out tonight and toilet paper houses?????
Skyblue8: my brother sleeps like a hog. he won't notice
Kit: IDK...
Skyblue8: I'll let you fly the tornado
Kit: :O deal
Kit: Meet you at 10
"You know I can see your messages, right?" Tails' dinner plate wide eyes snapped to Sonic, who had put down his book and was now holding his phone, scrolling down at a familiar chat log.
Shit. Shit. Shit.
A month ago, Sonic had hired some other tech wiz (Tails sure as hell wouldn't have done it) to install parental controls in the Miles Electric after what happened last time. Tails shuddered, remembering how mad Sonic had been over what happened last time. And now his brother could, among other things, see all of his chat logs.
He had meant to make something that could bypass it. He had meant to make some code between him and his friends. Sonic wouldn't think anything of it that way when they communicated their plans. But he hadn't. And now he was in deep shit.
"Uhh," He wracked his brain for an excuse. What good was having an I.Q. Of three hundred if he can't come up with a good excuse at the top of his head. "We were joking?"
Sonic held out his paw, "Come on, ked. Give it." Tails groaned and handed him the Miles Electric.
"What am I supposed to do nowwww?" He whined, huffing and crossing his arms.
"Well," Sonic put a paw to his chin as if thinking. "You could watch TV- Oh wait, you're grounded from that too." Tails stuck his tongue out at him and shuffled his feet in his brother's lap.
"You're such a pain."
"Yeah, I know," Sonic replied nonchalantly, grabbing his book from the coffee table.
"Whatever, Imma take a nap."Tails turned so that his muzzle was in the crook of the couch, blocking out the light from the living room. He felt Sonic gently push his feet down from where they had lifted to his chest.
He felt Sonic gently petting his tail as his mind drifted away into slumber.
—————
Tails woke up to the sprinkling of the shower echoing from the bathroom in the hall. He turned; face pressed against the couch cushion with a groan, disappointed to find the lap his feet had been laying on to be gone, replaced by a warm spot.
He got up and crawled over to the other side of the couch, curling his body around the circle of warmth. Grumbling when he felt cold glass pressed against his side.
Getting up to glare at the perpetrator that interrupted his precious slumber, the familiar sight of Sonic’s deep blue phone greeting him.
The mischievous grin Sonic was always wary of crept over Tails’ muzzle. He turned the phone on, no lock screen, figures. Smiled at the Home Screen of him, Sonic, Amy, and Knuckles hanging out under a palm tree.
He tapped into messages and onto Knuckles’ contact. His eyes scroll through the previous messages, nothing but sending each other coordinates and the occasional message from Sonic checking in on him. Tails rolled his eyes, board then his grin widened when he tapped on the keyboard.
Sonic: Hi Knux
Sonic: I have a confession. I’ve always had a HUGE crush on you.
Sonic: wanna go out sometime?
Some dots appeared as Knuckles started typing, Tails was lucky enough to contact him during his downtime when he would be checking his phone.
Knux: wtf
Knux: have you been possessed?
Sonic: no just really wanna date you <3
Some more dots appeared and then disappeared. He deleted the evidence and blocked Knuckles so Sonic wouldn't figure out what’s happening until it’s too late. Tails chuckled to himself. That was sure to get Rogue knocking down their door later.
Next was Shadow. Tails couldn’t figure out what to text him so he opened up the gallery, expecting to find some sort of embarrassing photo to send him. He's sure the dark hedgehog would appreciate that, might even make him smile for once.
But when he looked through the photos, he found something completely different. A familiar yellow-orange kit with white-tipped tails filled the screen, eyes shut, a blanket draped over him, paws wrapped around the orange fox plush Amy had gotten him for Christmas. The one he only ever slept with when he was sure Sonic was away or in deep sleep to hide from the embarrassment.
Tails gasped at the betrayal. His own brother. Took an embarrassing photo of him while he was unconscious and helpless.
He rolled his eyes and swiped to the next one. This time Tails was scrawled over his desk, head in his arms and tails wrapped around him like a blanket.
Another swipe. This time Tails was in Sonic’s lap, curled up with his muzzle in his brother’s chest.
Another swipe. He’s in bed again with the blanket knocked onto the floor, he’s sleeping with his mouth just barely open, tongue out slightly. Blepping is what it’s called. Something he'd only seen pictures of cats on the internet do. It took all his willpower not to delete this particular photo.
Another swipe. He’s stretched on a checkered picnic blanket on the beach. A beige arm coming out from behind him, two fingers above his head making bunny ears, pink quills barely visible on the edge of the photo. Amy too? The betrayal! The audacity! The outrage!
Huh, Amy was right, he was picking up Sonic's dramatic flair.
He kept swiping right. Almost the entire gallery was just pictures of him sleeping, his fur got browner the further back he went. A few of him awake looking mildly annoyed which he vaguely remembered, more of him blepping, and even fewer of just the two of them or all of his friends together hanging out.
He scrolled until he couldn’t scroll anymore. The last/first picture is a dirty fur-matted kit sleeping in an oversized sleeping bag. It was four years old. God, you’d think Sonic would upgrade his phone after four years.
Just as he was about to set the phone down, the bathroom door slammed open. Sonic came out, shaking the water out of his fur, walking over to the living room whistling.
“At least the ked’s getting some actual rest right now. God knows he needs it the way he overworks himself.” He grumbled as he scrolled over to the couch, eyes widening at the very awake fox who had his phone in his paw.
“Is that my phone?”
“Nooo.”
He put his paw out, “Give it.” There was that authoritative voice again, commanding his poor little brother to his every whim.
Tails grumbled and handed it over, then crossed his arms. “Why is your gallery full of pictures of me sleeping?”
Sonic’s ears perked up alarmed, “Ummmm…”
“Why huh? Is this a blackmail scheme? Because I’ll let you know I have way worse things on you- “
“What? No! I take them because I think it’s cute." Then he got nervous, "Wait what do you have on me- "
“Kinda creepy Sonic.” Tails scolded, ignoring the previous question.
“Don’t tell me what’s creepy Mr. send our mutual friend flowers in my name.”
“Hey, I'm just saying," He teased, "I don’t take photos of you sleeping.”
“Well, that’s different.”
“How?” Oh, he was going to have fun listening to this explanation.
Sonic grumbled something under his breath that Tails barely caught, “What was that?” He turned his ear towards him.
“ ‘Cause you’re my ked.”
“Excuse me?”
“You’re my ked, Tails.”
“I’m your brother, not your child.”
“Sure, but I’m also kind of your only parental figure.”
“Am not!”
“Tails, I literally grounded you a few hours ago.” Tails grumbled. Wait, a few hours? How long had he been asleep?
Then Sonic moved his paw to scratch that special spot underneath Tails’ ear making him reflexively move his foot to scratch himself.
“Hey!” He reached over to move Sonic’s paw, who just chuckled. “I’ve known you since you were four. I practically raised you.”
“Yeah, but you were eleven.”
“And if I’d been any older, I’d tell people I was your dad.”
The kit’s eyes softened, “You would?” Someone actually cared enough to want to be his parent? He guessed if that someone would be anyone, I’d be Sonic. Still, it was surprising.
Sonic wrapped his arm around his brother and lifted him up to his chest. “Sure would.” Then he blew raspberries into the kit’s forehead like he used to when the kid was even younger. Tails screeched, giggling, kicking at Sonic until he dropped him back on the couch.
The kit smoothed down his fur and then looked at Sonic, an idea forming in his head. “…Do you want me to help you put these on a cloud?”
“Sure, ked.” He ruffled Tails’ head, ignoring the look the kit gave him since he just fixed his fur.
Then Sonic squinted his eyes and tapped his foot as Tails realized he was thinking about something. “Wait a second…did you do anything else with my phone?”
“Noooo.” Tails said innocently, clutching his paws behind his back with his fingers crossed. His older brother sighed, giving up. “Guess I’ll find out later.”
“Mhhmm.” He looked away, ears folding back guilty as thought about how mad Knuckles and Rogue were going to be. How confused Sonic was going to be. His brother seemed to notice as he crossed his arms and rolled his eyes.
“I am so putting a Lock Screen on my phone.”
“We both know I’d hack that in less than a minute.”
“True, true.” Sonic laced down on the couch, dropping his back over Tails as the kit scrambled to get out from underneath him. “Hey!”
Tails huffed, “Can I have my Miles Electric now?”
“Fine. But no chatting, especially with Kit.” Tails rolled his eyes, Sonic never liked the fennec for some weird reason. Maybe because he'd tried to kill them? But then again, a lot of their friends have tried in the past.
“Deal.” He said, fully intending to anyway. Then the kit flew up to the high shelf where he knew Sonic had hidden everything he had taken away from his brother. He grabbed his device and sat himself back on the couch. Wedging himself between the cushions and Sonic, laying halfway on his brother’s chest. His heartbeat resting against his right ear.
He felt his brother wrap an arm around him before the room was full of loud sleeping noises. Tails could swear Sonic did it on purpose, only snoring at home just to annoy him.
He scrolled through his device and tapped onto Fall Guys, fully intending to play it until he drifted off to sleep as he had been doing lately when a thought popped into his head. He’d installed a camera on the Miles Electric months ago thinking he might need it on a mission, he never had but this was the perfect chance to put it to use.
He slowly sat up and pointed it at his sleeping older brother. Turning off the flash before snapping a photo. It was only fair after all.
Heard you were struggling to pick between Sonamy and Sonadow.
Proposition: Polymary.
I'm currently on the fence with poly ships. on one hand they can a lot of fun. On the other hand if not done right they can come off as......cowardly to me. I do plan on having a MLM ship later on in Lead To Light, whether sonadow is one of them is still up in the air. I'm not completely discounting the poly ship just yet.
A new chapter is finally out! And sadly the second to last one. This one was actually made a couple days ago with the last chapter, but I got sick before I could finalize everything. But I am recovered, so I hope y’all enjoy this chapter and the finale once everything is ready
"Nine sneaks into Sonic and Tails' home - as the Hedgehog-Miles household did not learn to close their doors, inviting in unexpected inter-dimensional guests."
Heyo! Back again with a new chapter! For now, the uploading schedule is every Friday unless school gets in the way (dastardly college) or if I want to post/update a different fic that week. I am thrilled so many people enjoyed the start of this fic, and I am all too excited to continue this.
Please enjoy!
