I came up with songs to fit each character. They’re not that popular I feel like, so pardon if you don’t know. I’ll put the links when I can.
Disclaimer: Explanations include head canons too, not too many though. Also, these are not my songs in no way shape or form. I also interpreted these songs in my own way, everyone is always free to think differently on what they would mean. This is for entertainment purposes solely.
(Yeah it’s sad how I have to put this for some specific people)
Arven: Either Broken by Jonah Kagen, or Homunculus by Trickle (OG song please check Trickle out he’s amazing). Broken really shows how much Arven wants Mabostiff, his only ever companion to help him out like his dog did when in pup stages, when both of them were so much younger. For the “While I write you a letter than I quickly erase it” I feel like he wants to show his Pokémon how much Mabostiff means to him. Homunculus shows how Arven wants to change after countless times of being broken down and trust broken by his Father. On another note the lyrics “I’m broken torn and tattered” and “I realized in my last life that I hate the light” he felt essentially worthless as being a cook was a path he wanted but perhaps being the son of a professor made him think it was a pathetic one.
Nemona: Stars by Diamond Eyes. This fits her well in my opinion, as even the opening lyrics feel like she would relate to. Like “I can’t wait to leave this town, cause lately I’ve been feeling down” shows she doesn’t have much happiness or joy ever since perhaps she’s been number one at her school. “I’m dreaming of you, I dream of a new life” explains slightly how she’s been thinking about MC, thinking she found a worthy rival. “So reach for the stars cause we’re aiming high!” Nemona can express how much she wants MC to reach their true potential after training and gaining the gym badges, because she wants the best battle ever. At the end of the main champion path, she was so happy. Not because you beat her, but because she could finally go full on out without having to worry about going too hard on her opponent.
Penny: Stereo Hearts by Adam Levine (Gym Class Heroes). Hahaha, you thought you’d get a darker song. Nope. I chose this one for Penny because it seemed like she’d feel this for her friends. Platonic love I see. “Furthermore I apologize for any skipping tracks, it’s just the last girl that played me left a couple cracks.” She sometimes feels guilt or such and explains anything or everything for the Team Star leaders. I suspect she also had fake friends in the past as she was alone, and furthermore kept her identity a secret until they discovered about it. Not to mention the “Keep me stuck inside your head like your favorite tune, you know my heart’s a stereo that only plays for you (laugh)” fits her and implies she wants her friends to know she’s there for them, and that they’re special, each individual to her in their own way. Penny worries about them, as seen when she stalks them and fears Mela was taking over the art club.
