How I became Anti Jiang Cheng/Wanyin and Anti Jiang in General
Fair warning/s:
Dramatic story sharing. MDZS meta that blur with some fanon pet peeves. Jiang family bashing (yup includes YZY, JWY, JFM, and even JYL). Lengthy story/experience sharing. Some cursing/foul language, okay a lot of cursing that I censored might have missed just in case. Some ranting I guess. And maybe some leaps in logic. Chaotic writing.

So long story short:
I've read a fic with the JC bashing tag, enjoyed it and browsed and read more content about it and I was thoroughly anti JC by the end of it all.
An example is
"All will be well when the day is done" by abCEE. If you haven't read it I recommend it if the Lan clan still hasn't been ruined in your eyes.

Long story not so short:
Okay as you all might know or not know, I was introduced to the MXTX fandom through a fanfic crossover and entered through the donghua.
When I watched the donghua I was sort of indifferent to the Jiang family as a whole. I thought YZY was just this super stern drill sergeant type of woman. Maybe unfair to WWX because of her own bias towards his heritage. JFM was this timid person in front of his wife who doesn't want to get into conflicts. JWY was this broken grieving person after the Lotus Pier Massacre. And JYL was this mother/sister role model that had an unfortunate end.
I did not like them(probably never will at this point), I did not hate them (I should have hated them more), thought they were developmental to WWX as a character (still true but for a completely different reasons). But that was it, they were characters that had fulfilled a role.
Oh what a foolish uninformed lamb 🐑 I was back then.🥲 The donghua did not even begin to skim the surface of it all. Or maybe it did in an artistic license type of view and it was the kind people on the internet who analyzed the story and the original work that just pointed out to me what was obvious now. 🤔

This was how knowing more both ruined and saved my love for MDZS.

It started when I began delving for fanfic on ao3, after finishing the donghua. Naturally, I began with the fics with the most Kudos, so I set my filters with the most words or the most Kudos along with the WangXian tags (Lan Wangji/Wei Wuxian).

Lo and behold one of the top fics at that time was a Jiang Wanyin centric time travel fic that I shall not name but bury deep within my reading history/bookmarks. I do not want to horrify you guys too much who are anti JC like me but the short synopsis was JWY travels back in time and fully supported WWX 🤢 throughout the Sunshot Campaign doing all the the things JGY pointed out in the Guanyin Temple incident getting a happy ever after of everyone lives(even JGY 😰) and noone dies(except mostly the Wen Sect not the Dafans) and JWY marries WQ 🤮.
Yes. I can't believe myself to have thought that was actually good. I got ulcers just thinking about it 🤢. What's worse 😱 is that I've read through several similar fics with JWY as a good brother, anger misunderstood trope and thought nothing of it at the time.
One of the worse of the worst were my ignorance when reading fics with side JWY/LXC tag.☣️🤮 If I knew I would have never touched any of these fics. But I absorbed the MDZS content through various media sources so my understanding was obscured at best and completely reconceptualized at worst. I hope my realization wasn't too late that I ended up reading about a homophobe in a same-sex relationship.

My poor ignorant self,😔 I forgive you for ever thinking any of those were acceptable homage to the masterpiece that is MDZS. Alas those fics in my read history will be part of a dark past that I might visit some day again only to treat it as the radioactive ☢️ toxic waste it truly should be handled as.

Don't get me wrong. It doesn't make any of those God awful plot devices better but at least those fics were still very entertaining and I appreciate all the work and effort the author had put in to writing them despite their uh...😦 misconstrued outlook on the actual canon personalities of the characters. Some of those fics were really long and well-written at least. So I find it a shame their great writing skills have gone in this direction.

Maybe 🤔 if I read those as extremely, extremely OOC then I guess they could be slightly acceptable. But till today there are plenty similar fic being written out there, and published everyday. I must sometimes cope by completely erasing JWY or any OOC Jiang from my mind whilst reading these types of mistagged fics. OOC JC tag should really be common so I can filter them out of my searches. I will always be grateful for ao3's sort and filter system.

Another, when exploring the fandom at first was that I was intrigued, amused and even confused 🤔 by all the controversy. On youtube, there were content creators fawning over JWY. So hey, I thought he seemed like a decently popular character.

Then someone pointed some things out to me and I was like " OMG 😱 What sort of deranged sick scum is this person and why the f*** out of all the villains that got their karma he still lives with a position of power".

Then I realized again after reading more mdzs meta, "Almost everyone in the Cultivation World except WangXian, the juniors(of every sect), WN, WQ, LQY and maybe NHS at some point are all corrupt assholes that deserve some sort of karma still lives with positions of power" 😱😱😱

So yeah. One of my problems when identifying good not OOC fanfics was because tags like the good sibling jc, yunmengbros reconciliation, etc.😖 was normalized by a lot of writers that other writers started referencing OOC fanfics as the true personality of those characters. That's why a newbie like me entering the fandom just binge read anything that was popular at the time and thought that it actually somehow corresponds to the original work. I am sometimes tempted to unsubscribe from certain MXTX content creators because they are JC stans. But I am conflicted cause they make really good WangXian content as well 😰.

For example:
Like when writers completely disregarding WWX's most important character traits to fit him into an OOC template @withthewindinherfootsteps discusses this very soundly and points out WWX's core philosophy. Writers have gone to create completely new characters and stamped them with the same name. They have lots of reblogs and discussion with this particular post

Maybe it's because I haven't read the entirety of the original work yet (I've only watched the donghua, the cql, followed the manhua, and skipping to favorite scene in thenovel translations) but further evidence pointed out by readers of the original work had thoroughly converted me. I do not commend any of the Jiang Family's treatment of WWX.

Let's begin with this literal raging b*tch, YZY.

YZY was a child abuser, a hypocrite, and liar.

These lines had been itching at me from the very beginning so... This was the Lotus Pier Massacre. A lot of others (particularly those who stan her) might think it was a sad heroic sacrificing moment as a mother that made a lot of people misconstrue YZY's true nature. She was neither self-sacrificing nor a mother.

She knew. She logically knew that the Wens were prepared and the fight couldn't have been avoided yet she still had the absolute gall to blame WWX of all the people present just because she can and just because she saw him beneath her. After punishing WWX herself as an act of 🤬 subservience to the Wen Clan she couldn't admit it that she herself was the one that escalated the entire situation to the Wen's advantage when WLJ taunted her about the supervisory office. She made everyone including the children to fight in that bloodbath just so her pride as a lady of a great sect remain unquestioned only saving her child and asking the disciple she abused mentally, emotionally and physically to give his life for JWY's sake. And look where it got her. If you ask me now, I'd say she totally deserved that humiliating death and WN should have left her and JFM's body to rot compared to my tragic first impressions.

JFM is as much as an abuser as YZY was. He was an abuser through neglect, and some form of exploitation. A lot of context clues lead to YZY regularly punishing WWX excessively. It's never really mentioned that JFM stopped any of these especially since it is most likely those punishments were handed indiscriminately without just cause other than YZY's hate for WWX.
Shown in the Lotus Pod Extra where it's only WWX who gets punished despite every other disciple doing the same thing. Punished with a whip a that!😨 And that was just an Everyday probably casual occurence in the summer.

The exploitation I have less evidence on that but from what I can understand (or don't) is that a disciple of a sect is more or less an employee and that they at least have some sort of regular stipend besides the facilities, housing and education given to them, otherwise why bother to become a cultivator of a sect when your financially challenged. I'm sure there's at least a few disciples who would send money back to their families because a cultivator's job has some monetary benefits that attracted them to Cultivation sects.

This isn't the case for WWX though. From the novel it was said that WWX explored the markets in Yunmeng and took whatever he pleased because the locals knew to send the bill to Lotus Pier and maybe he got an allowance that only equates to pocket money. It could be seen that he was well taken care of at least financially.

But from my point view its an indirect form of exploitation. This could be seen as WWX not having his own money to spend for himself making him monetarily dependant on the Jiangs generosity (which was barely existent). It made WWX all the more differentiated from the other disciples who were compensated for their rendered services. Especially since he was made the head disciple at such a young age he should have gotten a comparatively larger paycheck(ancient china payrolls) maybe even equal to the senior disciples because he takes on a teaching job.
When WWX was in the Burial Mounds with the Wens I don't think he had his own assets to claim and fall back on when JWY removed him from the sect. He was one of the key figures to victory in the Sunshot Campaign don't tell me he wasn't properly compensated for his contributions? If someone out there thinks that he gave his spoils of war to the Sect, then f*** the Jiang Clan, I call fraud and exploitation.

That's right folks! Lotus Pier was equivalent to a Japanese Black Company! Modern laws, on child labor and treatment addendums aside, at least in regards to WWX that is. Not only was WWX put to work in abhor conditions (abused; verbally and physically) he was also barely compensated, if not at all, for his services. YZY didn't make it any better siting unreasonable excuses of immeasurable debt that WWX took to heart. JWY also follows her mother's footsteps even when she died he also imposed this debt on WWX even when WWX already went above and beyond what stipulates on what a head disciple or even regular disciples owe to their sect. I could really care less how JFM didn't want to upset his wife or some other excuse, he is Sect Leader! He couldn't have not known what was going on. This has got to be some form of exploitation. 😡

I should write a separate post for all the things messed up about JWY. But to sum it up he expected WWX to abandon his moral code to pander to his sect leader position and Sect's reputation and leave to the Cultivation World's bloodlusts what was essentially a village full of civilians, children or weakened cultivators. He blamed WWX for JYL's death when he clearly witnessed what actually happened, it wasn't WWX who landed the killing blow(WWX even killed that stupid attacker the moment that happened, JWY saw that as well). He went on torturing to death anyone who slightly resembled WWX or was suspected of practicing unorthodox cultivation (keywords on slightly resembled and suspected never proven or justified) for years! Also hellbent on torturing and killing WWX in his second life by using his fears and guilt and that d*mn whip he inherited from his b**** of a mother. And he is an overall bitter and unpleasant character to be in the presence of. I could keep going on and on because there's a whole lot more and there is not enough words to describe how much of a terrible person he was by the end of the book.

Lastly, there is JYL. 🤨She wasn't very significant as the person WWX made her out to be. She wasn't a bad person but she also didn't make any strides to be better or do good. She always tried to make compromises but it was usually for the sake of others especially JWY and at the cost of WWX because she viewed him as being capable of carrying any burdens with a smile and not as a person that struggles or gets hurt by superficial or personal remarks. A peacemaker, timid like her father, avoiding conflicts instead of actually solving them. She claimed WWX a brother during the Phoenix Mountain Hunt and demanded an apology in the name of her sect but that all crumbled like a sandcastle on the beach and forgotten as dust in the wind when JZX confessed publicly and she secluded herself in her happy little married domestic life.😤 Either she was just an oblivious fool just like her husband and would have caused WWX's death by asking him to stand down when he was clearly being attacked or she really believed everything would go well if everyone calmed down or something. Or she was just incredibly gullible to the point of trusting her marital sect that repeatedly put down WWX. She is like LXC in this regard, and I have a lot of negatives and barely-there positives about him as well.

What frustrates me in fanfics with her in it is that she acts like both her marital sect or natal sect could never be in the wrong and that it should be WWX who should adjust is behavior when they were literally trying to kill him.
Is it appropriate to rant about other fics that pissed me off on tumblr? I won't cause it feels rude on some level.
Also I hate the line she said about WWX being born with a smiling face. That's like putting unrealistic expectations on WWX's head. Just because he can bare a lot of things with a smile doesn't mean he cannot get hurt? Newsflash putting up a smiling front is just one way WWX protected himself emotionally from all the rumors and vitriol from YZY. I know I'm being overly harsh but I can't help but feel infuriated. WWX is a strong person for putting up with the Jiang's bull****, horse****, dog**** whatever **** I can think of under the sun and still manages to be an inherently good person but that doesn't really justify everything that was done to him.

@righteousinadversity sums it up pretty well WWX's sufferings in life and a good chunk of that list is because of the Jiangs or could be traced back to the Jiangs.
If these realizations weren't enough to get me to go anti Jiang Family, I'd be wondering where my common sense went. I became extra wary of those fics tags with something like Good parent YZY & JFM🤬, Good sibling JC 🤮, Yunmengbros feels🙄, and a surprisingly eye watering amount of word vomit. 🤢

This doesn't mean I condemn all the fics out there that don't adhere to canon personalities even the ones I've already read. If the ficwriter was reasonable enough in writing a life altering event or tagging that the characters are going to act OOC. Then sure I might read a modern AU where JC is a reasonably less asshole of an adopted brother. Or an AU where the JWY and JYL try to makeup for their parents wrongs etc. I could probably stomach it with minimum nausea. Still doesn't mean I have to like it, I am just a poor deprived soul that seeks to consume as much mdzs media in my free time.😔
Although Post-canon fics where WWX or LWJ get along with JWY, 😑 yeah I'm drawing the lines where lines need to be drawn. I might make the time to delete a lot of bookmarks from my archives.

The only thing that saved my love for MDZS was WangXian and that speaks for itself because there's a lots of scummy characters (scummy as irl people, they were perfectly fine characters that drove the plot) and WangXian happens to overturn all those flaws because they are the exact opposite to such toxic relationships and toxic people. Plus just because I bash the Jiang Family so much doesn't mean I should stan WWX for the novelty of getting behind the hero or protecting a victim.

It's because WWX is genuinely a good person that I will stan him with all my squishy beating heart🫀!

He sees injustice and seeks to correct it. He had literal life costing wrongs done to him and he does not seek further resentment . He knows not to forgive and not to forget but also knows when to let go. And LWJ learned a lot from WWX and he became his moral compass. God 🤩 they are just so good together, good for each other, and good for everyone.🥲

On my sane days I'd avoid them like WWX avoids dogs. If I'm feeling curious or just really hoping to find something fresh to read, I'd suck it up and pretend the poorly characterized Jiangs are florid mouthpieces used by the author that I can probably forget and ignore.😖

I think I have the same problem with Postcanon fics where WWX gets along with his in-laws. I read them ignorant of how the original work actually ended. Now I despair at how awful my reading history looks and I became very critical of the type of fanfics I presently enjoy.

Fellow mdzs meta readers come at me with gentle criticisms or discussions or comments (emphasis on gentle please 🥺, I'm a sensitive soul that easily loses confidence)
I got the courage to post this after reading a fic with YZY being her petty bitchy self. It was gloriously infuriating that I console myself with the WangXian ending. I might recommend that fic after it's gotten more chapters out (I don't want anyone getting conniptions from the cliffhanger) along with other anti Jiang Family fics.

Sword gays showdown, round 2, bracket three
Propaganda:
For Lan Wangji:
Peak "while-you-were-being-heterosexual-I-studied-the-blade" energy. He canonically falls in love with & marries another man (the protagonist) who he sticks with and believes in the entire time, even wielding his sword against the elders of his cultivation Sect. He also wields a guqin (a large stringed Chinese instrument), but I think he uses Bichen, his sword, more often / as a primary weapon.
For Amaya:
Badass super strong disabled lesbian general who can and will take you out. Doesn't need a sword to punch you into next week, but will use one anyway.
She’s married to another sword gay and she’s also disabled so I love her very much
First deaf character I saw in any cartoon, she's very badass and protects her kingdom's border, later falls in love with an elf warrior princess she once fought. In the new season, they're planning their wedding while trying to navigate political tensions between the elf society and humans. Some of the elves aren't super into the idea of a human marrying one of them, which isn't for homophobic reasons but still (I believe) meant to mirror real world conservatives (really liked a scene with Janai's brother telling Amaya she's fine as a girlfriend for Janai but actually *marrying* her is too controversial and political. Whoever wrote this did a really good job).
She’s currently engaged to another lady, she uses a sword, is a general badass.
General Amaya is a standard sword lesbian with a cool shield and some funny "lines" example: "This bread is...." *bashes bread on table with no damage to the bread* "Weapons grade"

1. For the ficfinder: In the last "In the mood for", no 8 reminded me of a fic but I cant recall the one. Wwx is travelling by himself, writing letters to LZ, he stays in a town and it ends up cursed. LZ and the juniors arrive to solve the case. Wwx is acting weird and hides his letters. The juniors read the letters and find out wwx is angry and full of resentment about how he's been treated. They find out the curse resonates from him. They talk it out to resolve matters. It was written really well. Any idea? @kesterling

2. Hi! This is for Fic Finder. All I remember is the ending, where Yu Ziyuan had her arms cut off, and that there was a part that mentioned that this was punishment enough as she would have to live her life with no pride. Also, she had an affair with Jin Guangshan, and Jiang Cheng was his child, and she had to become his concubine, I think. Hope someone knows which fic this is!

Wwx was brought to cloud recesses for healing after madam yu had whipped him so bloody he couldn’t move and wa sin active danger of dying.
The disciples who brought him there did so on a donkey I think?
Anyway they asked LZ to please befriend Wwx.
The healers weren’t sure if Wwx would survive. He does.
And joins the lan, befriending LZ oh and he can’t fight with his sword anymore because of the damage and something about his heart having been weakened.
That is all I remember.

5. Hi, I'm wondering if anyone else remembers a fic similar to leading tone by silencemostofall, and pastel by antebunny, but that's set in the canon era while they're at Cloud Recesses? A few details I remember was that the coloured mark that indicated Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian's relationship started to fade, and that Jiang Cheng was allowed home to celebrate his birthday, while Wei Wuxian's was completely ignored by the Jiang Sect and so he spent it drinking and was caught by Lan Wangji. 6. There was this fic on ao3 I don't remember, much, but it had this part, where lwj refused to go near his child(/children??) Because when wwx was pregnant he slowly grew ill or I dunno I think there was some complications (?) and when it was finally the time of delivery, wwx fell into coma I think. And lxc was angry with lwj for not even looking at his child / children when both wc were so excited for the baby.
There is a similar wx comic on Twitter. Can you please find both of them? The ao3 fic and the Twitter comic too please?

A while back I found and lost 😥 a fic where WangXian, I think, were smuggling Wen Ning (and probably Wen Qing) across a border somewhere and they put a fake mustache on one of the two and people kept complimenting them on how nice it looked. I think people even copied the mustache after that? Maybe even the bad Wens? That's literally all I can remember about it. I've tried every tag I can think of and haven't been able to find it. I remember 18, though I can't find it either. The sickness/curse in question made people burn from the inside; it was contagious from breathing in the ashes of the people dying. There was a honestly touching scene with Wen Chao dying while Wen Ning kept him company. Wen Qing assassinated WRH because she was treating him for the illness, for which they'd finally found the cure, and he announced that he therefore would use it as a weapon against the other sects, by deliberately infecting them and holding the cure hostage. The only ones they'd allow to have the cure are the Lans, because they're the only ones who came to help. He also intended to marry WQ, as he'd lost both his sons and needed new ones. I think it might have been part of a series, with the first part showing how WangXian got together.

Most of wangxian fics are a retelling of the chengxian canon relationship with lan wangji in jiang cheng' place, with anti jiang family content (sometimes jiang yanli is spared)
BOOOOOORING, and also ?????????? because... the whole point of Novel Wangxian, from what I understand, is that they didn't have a close relationship prior to WWX's resurrection. The combination of societal obligations, misconceptions about each other, fear of open communication, and traumatic events outside their control (ex: THE DEVASTATING CIVIL WAR) prevents them from connecting in their youths as they might have otherwise, so the story is about how they make different choices when they're granted a second chance as more-adult adults. Like. That's the novel. If you's prefer a version of events where they're kindred spirits and mutually close starting in their teen years, that is literally CQL.
But mostly, I say again, BOOOOOORING! In the tags that inspired this Ask, I forgot about post-canon fic, and there's a lot of potential there! How successful are they about staying out of politics, given WWX's proven inability to stay in his lane and the nonzero chance that LWJ gets pulled into additional sect responsibilities if LXC's seclusion persists? With WWX's image redeemed somewhat now that JGY's everyone's new villain, will that mean a demonic cultivation renaissance among rogue cultivators? What role will they have in helping LZS reconnect with his heritage?
So there is plenty of stuff you can do aside from Sexy and/or Bland Times with Wangxian, but the Jiang bashing is just... beyond basic. It cheapens WWX's actions so much. Like, are you saying your boy voluntarily ripped out his golden core for some guy he didn't even like and then didn't say anything about it because he was just that beholden to obligation? Are you saying that protecting the Wen remnants was a super easy task for him, entailing zero emotional hardship on his part because he'd long since discharged his debt to his oh-so-rotten adoptive family? Like, damn, CQL downplays or removes WWX's responsibility in a lot of what he experiences, but at least he's still actively choosing sacrifice and being really messed up about it. Why make him less interesting!

I just read part of a fic that claimed to be writing a more "critical" version of Jiang Cheng, and I'm usually wary of such because when ppl say they're going to be "critical" of JC (or indeed any character) they usually mean they're going to turn him into YZY 2.0 with no redeeming qualities aside from being the absolute worst version of himself 24/7. Every JC/Jiang Bashing fic I've ever read is just the most one dimensional portrayal of MXTX's extremely complex characters, even if the author has to make up crimes and drama that actively contradict canon traits (rip yanli)
And that's fine. It's fanfiction. You're allowed to write whatever you want and if readers don't like it the exit button is free. However, it just irks me because I don't even really like JC and some of these portrayals make me want to defend this man in court.
For one, branding him as a mass murderer for being at the siege. Okay sure, but in that case so is literally everyone who persecuted the Wen Remnants even if only through wilful ignorance and passive allowance. The Lans, the Nies, and every minor sect. Yet why does LXC get a pass when he also was involved with the death and slaughter of the Wens? The primary message of the book was the dangers of mob mentality tyranny, and that all the great clans and leaders were at fault.
I see JC as a victim. As a child he was punished for acting familiarly with WWX while also punished for not being as skilled. Then as an adult he witnessed the death of his entire family and sect, and lashed out badly. Yet why is that his sole defining character moment? As if he didn't spent the end of the war wanting to protect his family, INCLUDING WWX. Of course he blamed WWX for Lotus Pier burning. Everyone did, including the Wens. They were obviously always going to attack, but WWX was a convenient scapegoat.
I won't pretend their relationship was healthy, but it also wasn't monstrously abusive. The reason JC lost his core was because he was trying to protect WWX from a patrol of Wen soldiers. Even after their fight, JC still snuck JYL into the city to see WWX and was the one who suggested that WWX be the one to choose the baby's courtesy name. It's explicitly stated that a lot of the reason their relationship went so sour was because the other sects (namely the Jins) manipulated/preyed on his insecurities.
TLDR: stop making me defend this man.

what made you pick up the current muse(s) you have? The answer, as ever, is brainrot. I fell down the danmei rabbit hole after getting the MDZS manhua and am to blame for dragging frexiasought down with me, but it's her who convinced me to make the blog and try writing some of my favourites. That said, I still want to write fanfiction with them too.
is there anything you don’t like to write? Character or ship bashing. I'll never enjoy reading it, and I refuse to write it. Obviously some characters are antagonists, but I'm so tired of Jiang Cheng bashing and Lan Xichen or Lan Qiren bashing. I didn't leave the FE community just to see the same things here.
is there anything you really enjoy writing? Maybe it's because I'm an old woman, but recently I've come to LOVE family content. Mu Qing's style of running his Palace is based on sect culture but also on that. And in general I just LOVE good sibling dynamics.
how do you come up with headcanons? Primarily brainwaves. Typically I bounce these brainwaves off of my notes app or Eva before I finalise them, but there's no telling what prompts some of those. They might come while I'm reading/watching, but also out of the blue while I'm working or showering. I do, however, also have a history of reading fanfics, spotting headcanons or portrayals I enjoy, and stealing them for myself (often with a bit of readjusting to better fit my own purposes). I'm not proud of stealing, and I try to credit the og fics if it applies, but I'm not above admitting it.
do you write in silence or do you play music? I tend to have speedruns open at all times when I'm home, so I listen to that. Otherwise I typically have music going, though I usually can't sit still when listening to music. I detest silence, though.
do you plan your replies or wing them? I typically wing them. Usually I'll have an idea of how to respond when I first see the post/ask I'm responding to, but as to how I execute that thought and add to it, that's winged. Wung?
do you enjoy shipping? Recently I've come to enjoy more platonic relationships more, but I will always be a shipping whore. I think that my aromantic ass lives vicariously through fictional characters.

favorite season? Cranky old woman doesn't like any season. I go from hay fever season into cold season. I'd say autumn, but the cycling roads get super dangerous and the low-hanging sun blinds me. So probably summer, outside of heatwave time, bc both school and work tend to settle down around that time.

Jiang Gunian Made A Change Part 10
As the days turned into weeks, tempers started flaring. Casual sparring between clans turned into free-for-alls. Sitting in a Sect meeting after the latest brawl sent over fifty men to Wen Qing and her people for healing (including her younger idiot brother), Jiang YanLi fumed.
“This is unacceptable,” Jin ZiXuan frowned and wiped blood from his forehead. “Someone needs to keep those ruffians in their place.”
Nie HuaiSang swung his fan and played with his sleeves. “And who are you suggesting act as peacekeeper? You?” The question sounded idle; it very much wasn’t.
“If need be,” Jin ZiXuan groused. “Most of the major sects’ cultivators are too well trained, and they have a chain of command.”
“So I’ve heard,” Nie HuaiSang slyly agreed.
Jiang YanLi coughed to disguise a smile. Had the Nie heir heard Wang Ping dressing down the Jin heir?
“if we’re going to appoint one of us to command this group, it should be me,” Lan XiChen insisted. “I’m the eldest and I’m a sect leader, not an heir.”
Jiang YanLi agreed. “Yes, Lan Zongzhu is wise. I concur with that.”
Jin ZiXuan bristled. “Well, I don’t!”
“Neither do I, actually,” Nie HuaiSang sat up primly from a slouch. “Lan Zongzhu’s credentials are impressive, of course, but they are not the ones needed to run a camp. We need someone people can respect, of course. One who is clever and already.”
“We are not electing Wei WuXian to lead us,” Jin ZiXuan spat.
“I concur with that,” Jiang YanLi gave a look of caution to the Nie boy. “My brother is smart and clever, but he is more likely to join in these fights than figure out how to stop them. In fact, I honestly think the only reason he isn’t in the infirmary right now is that he was out hunting crabs when it was happening.”
Lan XiChen nodded. “Wei WuXian is not the leader we need.”
Nie HuaiSang snapped open his fan and waved it angrily. “As I was saying before I was interrupted,” he glared at the Jin heir, “We need someone who is clever and already knows logistics. Like... someone who has already redistributed cooks, and who already controls the food distribution around the camp so no one goes hungry. Like... someone who has already set up a separate site for the women because some men were trying to treat them as camp followers.” There was another glare at the Jin heir who tried, and failed, to look repentant for his disciples’ actions. “Someone who has already demonstrated competence in running this place.”
“No.” Jiang YanLi’s stomach filled with rocks. “You can’t mean....”
“I do,” the Nie heir smirked. “It would be helpful, don’t you think, to give leadership to someone who has earned it through her actions rather than as a birthright?”
The initial vote was tied: two against two, until Jiang Cheng limped in to the meeting. Upon being briefed, he raised his fist at the Jin heir. “You will follow my sister, or the next time there’s a fight, I won’t block my disciple’s blade when he tries to bash your skull in. Hopefully, he’ll at least take an eye. Help you see the world around you better.”
The final vote was four to zero. A notice was distributed to everyone that Jiang Gunian was now in charge of the entire camp.
Her first order was to require everyone involved in the fights over the last few weeks to dig new latrines and then fill in the almost full ones while their Cores were sealed. “Hard work builds character and reduces time to get in trouble.”

i know this reiteration and dance bringing nuance onto the jiang cheng / wen survivor discourse has been done time and time again but i will do it anyway bc i want to rant. to be clear, anyone who thinks of themselves as an ‘anti’ pls do not interact <3 i think a lil discourse is fun for many people but i don’t have the energy to dedicate to fighting antis, jc or otherwise. no character bashing is tolerated on this post ! there is also a good chunk under a readmore bc i can’t do Long Posts w/o a readmore
i read a few replies that talked about how wen mainline (and distant lines) were killed for to avenge and honour your ancestors who were killed by them (its more complex than this but i am not the expert so im not going to elaborate) but ! not every wen disciple was a wen mainline member or even a distant member of the line. while the sunshot campaign primarily rallied to kill wrh and his tyranny and with that, end wen hegemony, *not everyone wearing wen sect colours was surnamed wen*
the sunshot campaign did not spare them regardless. it was worse for the people left of dafan wen bc they bore the surname no doubt, and what happened to them was atrocious, but like. are you getting what i’m putting down here? the whole cultivation world was not morally correct. the sunshot campaign in its methodology was not morally correct. war choices are not morally correct and you cannot square this blame solely on jiang cheng’s shoulders.
yeah what jc did and said to wwx about the wens was not an entirely morally correct choice but it was a diplomatically justified choice. y’all immediately point fingers at jc but you forget nie mingjue condemned the wens for being wens by name alone: he had a canonically black and white perspective on justice (which i personally headcanon as something different & more nuanced but lsdkjfs this is not about that & to clarify i love nmj w my whole heart).
in addition, where was the lan sect? arguably if the lan and nie sects together had worked, they *could* have saved the wen survivors. they had enough political power and money to do so and their sects had a presumably long-standing alliance already considering the closeness of lxc and nmj (also drawing on how nhs calls lxc ‘xichen-ge’). qinghe nie in particular was known for the opposition of jin guangshan — would it not be in good faith for jgy to have turned over the wens to his sworn brother, who probably would have treated them more fairly regardless of them being wens, to show that lanling jin honoured nmj’s late father and trusted them in this alliance?
nobody in the cultivation world did anything to help the wens. lmao the person who probably did the most was jiang fucking yanli. there is, so much more here than some individual choices and NOT to discount them but theres just. more nuance. more backstory.
did jiang cheng owe a debt to the wens? yes. contextually, is it different for him than nmj or lxc? yes. does it make him an *inherently bad and irredeemable person*? no.
jc had a sect to look after and major and minor sects on his heels. the lan sect initially helped him rebuild his disciples in numbers but you see how many died when wen chao came. after sunshot, there are so many expenses and yunmeng jiang was in a socially, politically and economically unstable position. i could go into how he probably really needed money but i won’t bc sldkfjs that isn’t the point here.
the point is that jin guangyao and jin guangshan would probably eat him alive if he fucked up and there were inevitably mid-sized sects rising to the top, particularly around lotus pier, that were swallowing up smaller subsidiary sects and eyeing the rest of yunmeng jiang. it was the wens and his brother , or his sect / what was left of it: the people he recruited in sunshot, who he probably promised a home and food to; a sect he had to rebuild from its ashes.
his brother was frankly being extremely unreliable atm (for, valid reasons bc this mans was coping the best he could but jc did not know what was going on) and not telling him very much. i love wwx and think he was simply trying his best and i feel so sad when i think about him during this time but since this man was very unwell, he was not exactly the pinnacle of diplomatic excellence in a unified political jiang front, for a variety of reasons.

Look. We all know the Lan sect. Austere, reserved, founder is descended from a Buddhist priest who met their one true love, started a sect and then disappeared when their love died. They participated in the first and the second siege and then their leader had a crisis of made all the wrong moral choices in a video game and ended up with a bad ending. It’s okay though, now he can actually think about what he says and be a better person.
We know them, probably love them, the love interest proceeds to be fascinating by living up to the tenets in spirit and being an austere almost monk person who also loves to fuck his husband until he can’t walk the next day. The Lans- very variable fascinating sect. I personally adore writing them- once they’ve put in a little character development to be worthy of our beloved heroes.
Modern aus usually make them very old wealthy families. They’ve got the houses all in white and the rooms you can’t touch and the forty thousand house rules. I suppose this is a valid take, although in my opinion it sucks balls because it completely forgets things like the fact that they are raised in Buddhist principles. That level of rich arrogant snobbery just goes against a lot of what the Lan sect actually is supposed to be, Lan Qiren is not supposed to be the moral compass of our story, otherwise we would have a story where the Lan sect gets wiped out by someone when they refuse to stand up for anyone and fall for anything. Listen to Lan Wangji, not his rigid discipline stick of an uncle.
But, I digress. Rich Austere Lans is a take that works for modern aus, but listen to your dear Sangsang as she offers you a much better option…
Hippie Lan commune instead. Lan Qiren meditating with goats standing on him. Clothes made of hemp. Lan Wangji has never eaten a piece of food that he didn’t help grow himself. Lan Xichen names the meat they eat. They go to deforesting protests and show up as four hundred people all in white clothes and preach harmony with the earth and following Buddhist and tantric principles. What we take from the earth we must give back. We must passive aggressively stand in the way of injustice and wish good tidings on our enemies.
Lan sect. Hippies. Just think about it.

How to you feel about wwx sort of taking advantage of lwj when he’s drunk re: the kiss? (It’s a genuine question, I’m trying to instigate a fandom war or bash any character!)
Well first off anon, I think that framing it as "sort of taking advantage" already states where your thoughts on it lie. I recognize that you do likely mean to be neutral and are asking in good faith and just accidentally missed the word not, but the way you phrased the question does have a lead in.
Which is really unfair because I wouldn't call either stolen kiss in Modaozushi either one of them taking advantage of the other. They are both impulsive actions, taken then immediately regretted with neither of the kissed party punishing the other in any way.
The Phoenix Mountain Kiss has been done to death, but let's go ahead and talk about the DrunkJi 2 kiss. It might be a bit scattered because I was having some revelations myself about this moment when I was rereading the scene. Namely that LWJ is being a lot more consenting than it first appears.
They are both not sober in the moment. Wei Wuxian was drinking before Lan Wangji joined him, at the end of the scene he discovers that the whole bottle is empty while he's all rattled about it. I would hesitate to call Wei Wuxian drunk, but as someone who has had more than my own fair share of drinks, there is a point where you can still be very aware of your actions, your senses yet your instinct that pulls you back is numbed. And it does not necessarily take a lot of drinking to get there.
They have been playing a very flirty game. Lan Wangji was threatened if he got caught during chase to get licked and his response was to turn around and walk right into Wei Wuxian to be licked. He gets all shuddery and fluttery about it like the flustered maiden he is, but also goes back in for more. He is definitely very drunk, but every sign that Wei Wuxian is getting is not only a level of enjoyment, but actively seeking out more. In addition, this is the second time Lan Wangji has gotten drunk around Wei Wuxian, so it's not like it's a surprise to either of them that he's a bit of a wild child, running around, causing trouble and being a pouty baby when Wei Wuxian doesn't give him what he wants. Lan Wangji choosing to drink alongside Wei Wuxian is both of them acknowledging that this is going to go in interesting directions; Lan Wangji is not going to remember it and he trusts Wei Wuxian with his drunken inhibition free self.
Here's where we get to the first amazing thing I've discovered on rereading this. There is a lot more going on beneath the surface than framing this as Wei Wuxian suddenly kissing Lan Wangji out of nowhere. This whole scene is showing us what their dynamic really was when they were younger and how only now do they have the ability to actually pick up on these confused signals that they were sending each other as teenagers.
Lan Wangji may be drunk, but for the first time, Wei Wuxian is absolutely picking up on what he wants.
As he was pondering, Lan WangJi turned around, his face as calm as always, “Again.”
Wei WuXian, “Again? Again what?”
Lan WangJi hid behind the wooden screen once more and peeked at him with only half of his face showing.
His intentions were as clear as could be—again, you chase, I run.
Speechless for a moment, Wei WuXian obeyed and did it again. This time, having only been chased for a short while, Lan WangJi ran into him again.
Wei WuXian, “You really are doing this on purpose, aren’t you?”
Again, Lan WangJi brought Wei WuXian’s arms around his neck as though he couldn’t understand what his words meant, waiting for him to fulfil his promise again.
These are not the actions of someone who just wants to play. There is a whole other layer going on beneath the surface. A context clue clicks into place for Wei Wuxian and presumably the audience as well, although that latter one I strongly doubt given that I only really caught onto it now myself.
Lan Wangji is not running because he is afraid or because he isn’t enjoying it. Lan Wangji is running because he wants to be chased and caught. He wants to resist up to a point and then give into Wei Wuxian and surrender the need to pretend and protest. Wei Wuxian is teasing him as though he were a playful kid, cause licking is gross at that age and it theoretically should make Lan Wangji run faster. Instead he makes it a few steps, turns around and walks right into Wei Wuxian’s arms.
It is rather an intensely vulnerable scene as I reread it for this. For just a moment, Wei Wuxian lets his guard down because Lan Wangji is asking him for something very different than he might sober and he is responding to that deep attraction within the both of them. He has picked up on that Lan Wangji was a little frightened of the deepness of the emotions within, but also he really does want it. Thus he continues because he for a brief few splendid moments has no doubt.
With his arms around Lan WangJi, Wei WuXian returned to the bed with him, then asked, “You like this, don’t you? Don’t turn around. Speak. Do you like it or not? If you like it, we don’t have to run around every single time. How about I let you have as much fun as you want?”
As he spoke, he held up one of Lan WangJi’s hands, bent down, and kissed between two of his slender fingers.
Lan WangJi wanted to take his hand away again, but Wei WuXian held it tightly, not allowing him to do so.
And then, Wei WuXian’s lips pressed onto his distinct knuckles. Softer than the touch of feather, his breaths wandered to the back of his hand, and he kissed again.
It is easy to forget, especially since the extent of Lan Wangji's strength won't be shown until the Guanyin Temple, about sixty chapters away from this point, but he is very strong and Wei Wuxian is in the body of a normal person who has not cultivated a golden core. The text here in ExR Allure says that Wei Wuxian wouldn't let him pull his hand away, but if he actually really wanted to stop it, he could easily pull his hand away or push Wei Wuxian off. He is not resisting because he doesn’t want it, he is resisting because he is continuing to play hard to get.
He is still being chased, Wei Wuxian is about to catch him.
Lan WangJi couldn’t pull his hand back no matter how hard he tried. He could only clench his fingers together into a tight fist.
Wei WuXian lifted up his sleeves, revealing the pale-skinned wrist, then kissed it as well.
After he kissed, he didn’t raise his head. He only turned his eyes to Lan WangJi, “Is that enough?”
Is that enough for Lan Wangji, hapless fragile maiden being seduced by the man he really, really likes? No, no he would like a little more romancing please.
Lan WangJi pursed his lips, refusing to speak a single word. Wei WuXian finally sat up straight again and continued, his voice unhurried, “Tell me. Have you burnt any paper money for me?”
There was no answer. Wei WuXian laughed out loud and inched toward him. Over the clothing, he kissed where his heart was, “If you don’t talk, I’m not gonna give you any more. Tell me. How did you know it was me?”

In a world in which Wei Wuxian had plant growing/summoning powers, he would use them to make sure that Lan Wangji always has the shojo flower backdrop he deserves. He told us himself when he drew him. Lan Wangji just doesn’t look right without flowers in his hair.

One of the lovely things about rereading Modaozushi and talking about it with people is that you realize new things about the text that you’d never noticed before.
One of those things is Wei Wuxian’s absolute need to flirt with Lan Wangji regardless of what else he is doing in the moment. Even when it involves other people.
We know a lot of the bigger ones pretty well, but let me offer you one that I think slips by a lot of people because it’s a pretty subtle moment in a big chapter. I’ve copied a few lines of text around it to show how clear the transition and Wei Wuxian’s complete lack of focus on everything else once Lan Wangji enters the scene is.
The sucking force of the lake became stronger and stronger. Wei WuXian’s sword was superior in terms of agility, but inferior in terms of strength. He was almost weighed down to the point of hovering right above the surface of the lake. He steadied himself while using both hands to haul Su She, and shouted, “Can somebody come here to help?! If I still can’t pull him up, I’m gonna let go!”
Suddenly, Wei WuXian felt his collar tighten, and he was lifted into the air. He turned around to see Lan WangJi holding the back of his collar with one hand. Although Lan WangJi merely looked into another direction with an indifferent look, he and his sword carried the weight of three people, and fought with the mysterious force of the lake at the same time. Moreover, their position was still rising at a steady pace. Jiang Cheng was rather shocked, If I went down to pull Wei WuXian before him, using Sandu, I probably couldn’t have ascended so quickly and steadily. Lan WangJi is only around my age…
At this point, Wei WuXian spoke, “Lan Zhan, your sword is quite strong, isn’t it? Thank you, thank you. But why did you pull my collar? Can’t you hold on to me? I don’t feel comfortable if you do this. Why don’t I stretch my hand to you and you can grab it?”
Lan WangJi replied with a cold voice, “I do not have physical contact with others.”
Wei WuXian, “We’re already this familiar with each other, so how am I ‘others’?”
Lan WangJi, “We are not.”
Wei WuXian pretended to be hurt, “You can’t do this…”
Jiang Cheng really couldn’t hold it any more. He scolded, “You can’t do this!!! Can’t you speak a few sentences less while you’re held in mid-air by your collar?!”
The group travelled on their swords and evacuated Biling Lake as fast as they could. When they landed, Lan WangJi let go of Wei WuXian’s back collar and calmly turned to Lan XiChen, “It is a waterborne abyss.”

So have you all noticed what Wei Wuxian forgot in his need to flirt with Lan Wangji for coming to save him? Do you see the subtle note that the book gives us on the context of this arrangement with Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian up in the air?
Su She is still being held up by Wei Wuxian while he’s busy flirting!
Wei Wuxian either forgets or ignores that he has a whole other person dangling from him in midair while he immediately turns his attention to flirting with Lan Wangji because that is where his fifteen-year-old brain is at and where his focus is for... the entirety of the Cloud Recesses Classes arc.
Su She may be a classist asshole who went out with only a glimmer of dignity, dying for a man who gave fuck all about him, but for this one moment, let us be sympathetic to him, as he dangles from Wei Wuxian’s hand, completely ignored because Wei Wuxian needs to flirt that badly.
I love this book so fucking much.

One of the sweetest things about all the juniors shipping Wangxian even as early as Yi City (as well as one of the funniest if you’re a fan of irony), is that it’s really easy to realize, but also really good why they’re the first ones to accurately name what they’re seeing.
The Multi-Clan Duckling Squad are the first people to ever see Wangxian together without any preconceived notions about their relationship — including Wangxian. They alone get to just see them as they are, two dorks who perfectly match and are clearly in love with each other, and they never assume that there’s something else going on because of their understandings of the men involved.
The juniors continue to prove that you can’t really understand someone if you’re coming at them with an assumption in place, and only with clear eyes can you see what was there all along to see.

MDZS/CQL characters that I deeply, uncomplicatedly despise and have zero interest in learning to like or seeing redeemed:

- Sect Leader Yao
Characters I strongly dislike and am 100% open to bashing, but I'm willing to be convinced otherwise/enjoy AUs in which they take a different path:
- Wen Ruohan
- Wen Chao
- Wen Xu
- Jin Zixun
- Qingheng-jun
Characters I'm ambivalent towards, in that I dislike them for my own reasons but also like... y'know, I GET IT, I get why they are the way that they are. It doesn't mean I don't judge them, I do, but it does mean when someone ELSE is being mean about them I feel the irrational urge to defend them:
- Jiang Fengmian
- Madam Yu
- Madam Jin
- Su She
- Wang Lingjiao
...and that's it. Literally everyone else is on a spectrum of "I have nothing against them" to "I would defend them with my life."
There's a lot of negativity in the fandom; people act like if you're a fan of Jin Guangyao you have to hate Nie Mingjue and vice versa, or if you like Nie Huaisang you have to look down on Lan Xichen, or you can either be a fan of wangxian or of Jiang Cheng but not both, and I just... no?? I love them all? They're messy and complicated and frustrating and not a single one of them is perfect, they've all fucked up in significant ways, and they all had their reasons for it and I love that. And anytime I voice my love for a character it feels like there's always someone ready to tell me I'm wrong for liking them and just... why? Why would you do that? In a story chock-a-block full of morally grey characters, why decide that it's only correct to like the RIGHT morally grey characters? Can't you let people like who they like in peace?
And honestly, even the characters in that second category, yes of course I'm always at home to some Wen Chao bashing, but isn't it more FUN to wonder why he turned out that way and how it could have been different? To examine how Jin Zixun became the shithead we all know and loathe, and question if anything could have changed him?
Isn't it more fun when you're not always going on about how much you hate a character?
(...unless it's Jin Guangshan or Sect Leader Yao. Because seriously, fuck those guys.)

Xue yang: why did you even cosplay Wei wuxian?

You know, when i walked into the wider mdzs/cql fandom 4 years late with starbucks in my hand i was generally expecting that the character i was gonna have to bat horrible takes away from me with a hockey stick was gonna be jin guangyao. Maybe jiang cheng. Complex characters in an antagonist role whose complexity tends to be ignored because people want an easy bad guy to point at so they can prop up their own blorbo.
But no! There are so many rancid takes about both of them but it has become startlingly easy for me to avoid them once i knew what to do. I nestle myself mostly into the 3zun/yi city niche of the fandom which are generally (fictional) murder-friendly. Be careful when treading wangxian-only pages. Don't even come near either of their character tags. Avoid the "canon jiang cheng" tag like the plague. (I gotta hand it to 'em calling your character negativity tag canon is a ballsy move.) And. Yeah. Sometimes I can blissfully forget wider fandom has bad takes about these dudes.
No. No the character i have to slap away bad takes from left right and center is fucking nie mingjue.
You wouldn't expect that from a source material where he spends 90% of them time being a corpse. But here we are!
(To be clear everything under this cut is me being extremely salty if you don't want that in your life scroll away! read something else! smell a flower! eat some ice cream! Have a better day than i did! You deserve it)
I understand that it's because i took primary measures to avoid bad takes about jgy that i ended up in the jgy apologism pit and i do really quite like it here, you're all very lovely. But I guess the fandom impulse to need a big bad guy so blorbo didn't do anything wrong propped up and jgs on his own wasn't enough for everyone, and so the reading that nie mingjue is a selfish entitled privileged brute who wanted nothing more than to beat jgy until he acted grateful or subservient enough for his wishes without ever actually trying to empathise with him emerged in a few corners.
I've seen cql and book canon warped and mixed together to perpetuate the worst reading of him possible that would, in either canon taken on its own, look downright ridiculous. (I've often seen people say cql softens his character, but it notably makes him look like a way worse sect leader to jgy because the jin captain harassment was moved to qinghe, where in the book it is basically established that while people still look down on jgy the outright harassment has stopped because they can't get away with it anymore, and only the most subtle gestures of disrespect slip through. People will just move the alternate reality from cql to novel canon with no regard for how it makes several plotbeats no longer make sense. Don't even get me started on the differences between book empathy and show empathy and how they are ignored because one framework lends itself easier to character bashing.)
I've seen claims that killing him was good and a kindness actually, because he was just too bad and dangerous to keep on living. Who knows who he'd have killed if left on his own!! He'd have died in a few years anyway, who cares.
I've seen an offhand assumption from xue yang that the bruises madam jin leaves him with come from nie mingjue being misquoted as some kind of canon hard proof that nie mingjue is physically abusing jin guangyao during their entire sworn brotherhood multiple times in discourse now and it makes me want to start chewing on human flesh. (Also the lan xichen character assasination this implies??? Apparently lan xichen is just standing there while his eldest sworn brother beats the younger one up and, what? Thinks it's a good idea to make them spend long periods of time together ALONE? Tells jgy after the stairs incident that he "shouldn't provoke" mingjue- An actual thing he says!!! Which becomes much worse if this isn't an isolated incident in a tense but otherwise wanted relationship but instead one iteration in a long history of abuse!! So lxc is just doing abuse apologism for years on end here? Ok.)
And the frustrating thing is that, unlike with characters like jc or jgy, who have solidly sized fanbases built up specifically to defend and discuss them with nuance in part as direct reaction to abysmal takes about them, the equivalent for Nie Mingjue is a lot smaller. Wider fandom takes on him tend to vary from a casual shrug of general disinterest to "oohhhh jgy is so evil for killing him i feel so bad 😞" followed by. Very little actual exploration of what makes his character so interesting and tragic. And so I am left with??? Almost nothing??? Most people actually TALKING about him are doing so wrongly and even if they are defending him they are! Doing It Wrong! This sucks! I don't like any of it!

So you know how the fandom bash Wei Wuxian because of their precious abuser grape. I have now discovered another side of the fandom where people bash Lan Wangji because of Lan Xichen. For some reason I have found fics where they say that Lan Wangji betrayed gusu for Wei Wuxian and hurt the elders and that it’s good that Lan Xichen is such a forgiving brother (I mean it’s not like Lan Xichen slaughtered innocents). Also they bash the couple in many fics having them have intercourse in the open in gusu and having Lan Xichen leave seclusion to berate and giving them ultimatums???!!!! Or him leaving gusu to go to the abuser grape because he can’t stand them anymore. Like if you don’t like the couple then stop reading!!! I barely like Lan Xichen as it is and with these stories I end up disliking him even more!!!
Sorry for the rant, what do you think???
Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji did not wrong. I stand by that, lmao. But honestly tho, the first punishment, tho extreme, does have a solid basis. LWJ did betray his sect and harmed his leaders for WWX.
But post canon, they are absolutely the only adults in the right. Anyone that bashes LWJ needs to go back and read the novel. He has the best character development and is on par with WWX by the end of it. Some people in this fandom just can't deal with the fact that after suffering so much at the hands of the society and loved ones, Wangxian won. Fate rewarded them with a long, happy married life with a gaggle of admiring juniors.
LWJ is out there living his best life, being the best cultivator, adored by the future generation, with a righteous reputation that no one can beat, and with the love of the most righteous and charismatic person in the Jianghu. Their favs could never, lmao.
LWJ won. He got the happiest of happy endings.
