Remember, this part of our nervous system mobilizes us into action, our 🚨 fight/flight/freeze response. If there isn’t a real threat, and we do not need the mobilization of our protective mechanisms, then we need to recruit our parasympathetic nervous system (rest/digest), 🧘🏻‍♀️which is the part of our nervous system that calms us down or helps us recalibrate back to homeostasis. 👉🏼The vagus nerve has been described as the most influential nerve in our parasympathetic nervous system. It functions like your body’s natural reset button. Learning how to stimulate your vagus nerve allows you to get ignite a sense of calm and relaxation. Vagus means wandering in Latin. It is the longest nerve in the body and it influences heart rate, respiration, and digestion. 😲 👉🏼The tone of the vagus nerve is significant to the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system. Heart rate variability is a way to measure vagal tone. For example, as you 😮‍💨 breathe in, your heart-rate speeds up a little. As you breathe out, it slows down a little. The higher your vagal tone, the greater the difference between your inhalation heart-rate and your exhalation heart-rate. The higher the tone, the more efficient you are at relaxing. Higher vagal tone is associated with better general health. What happens when we begin to see ourselves more fully- when we begin to affirm, and stand in who we are- when we gain more and more capacity to do that, even in places and with others who cannot see us? We begin to gain the power to shine our essence into the world. This matters. There are external messages, and places from our past that did not, and do not affirm our being. When we go back and begin to reclaim these places in us through seeing and meeting ourselves, through affirming our own aliveness just as it wanted to blossom, in its gorgeous vulnerability, in its strength, in whatever uniquely alive pattern wanted to, and wants to unfold-more and more, we can begin to stand in our own being in the face of the world’s mess. We can begin to contribute truth and light into the world. We can share ourselves and invite the world into more of this field. It is true that the more we know who we are, wholly and deeply and fully, we have the power to shine this into the world. Incoming banana bread recipe! If you haven’t already given our latest episode a listen with Carly @likobodywork, then let me enlighten you. She shares the result of her three week journey in attaining a not so normal, but more so tropical, banana bread. Just in time for the weekend i.e. breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It’s not called the fruit of the wise man for nothing. . Ingredients: 💛2 cups unbleached all purpose flour 🍯3/4 cup raw sugar 🥄2 tsps baking soda 👍1 thumb ginger 🍊zest of one large orange 🧡juice of half the large orange 🍌5 super ripe (blackened) latundan bananas / 3 ripe cavendish bananas 🥄4 tbsps unsalted butter 🥄1 1/2 tsps vanilla extract 🥚2 large eggs . Ritual: 1️⃣Preheat oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit / 170 celsius 2️⃣Prepare bowl with bananas. 3️⃣Add the butter to a sauté pan, set heat to medium/low. Once you see the milk solids start to fluff up and separate, taking on a deeper caramel color, remove from flame and add the browned butter to your banana bowl. Smoosh it all together. 4️⃣Grate your ginger and add into banana bowl along with your orange zest, orange juice, eggs, and vanilla extract. Whisk together. 5️⃣Mix all your dry ingredients in a separate bowl (flour, sugar, baking soda). 6️⃣Bring your wet and dry preparations together. The dough shouldn’t be too thick or dry; if so, add some more orange juice. 7️⃣Pour into greased / lined cake tin and on the second to lowest rack of your oven, bake that beauty for a good 50 mins.
