Anyone who watched Goncharov and does not pick up on the clear sapphic story between Sophia and Katya is just really blind or does not want to see it. Day/Night dynamic, the way Sophia LOOKS at her when she thinks she can't see her, and most importantly "you could've been my sun"???!?!?!?!!? Come on for fuck's sake

I just love that scene where Katya and Goncharov are dancing when Sofia and Katya lock eyes across the dancefloor! (+ Taylor Swift lyrics for no reason)聽

Mariella鈥檚 still alive
Katya didn鈥檛 kill her
You know, like she did Sofia

poor both of them :(((( Sofia doesn't know that Katya's red kerchief symbolizes she's been marked for death from the beginning
anyway what if Sofia had been the one to find Katya's note at the hotel instead of goncharov? what if she had been the one to follow her to the clocktower? it would've changed everything

The themes of time running out and time not stopping for anyone is so amazing. It doesnt just refer to the end of their life but also time running out to make choices.
Sofia said to Katya "Time waits for no one, we live with our choices and the window to jump into another life narrows dear" during the cigarette lighting scene is not just about establishing their hidden love for each other
but also that as the wife of gorchanov she wound her path a long time ago and running away wont be an option soon.
Sofia was basically asking her to run away with her before its too late.
The clock theme is bound to all the characters as well as their relationships with each other!

Quick study of That scene because I love how soft Katya's eyes and hair look

I haven't clocked it on my first viewing of the film, but it's insane how Sofia is the only person who gets to call Katya "Ekaterina" now and again, trying to place a flimsy boundary of formality between them, yes, but also granting Katya respect of the full name, recognising her as an independent person and not just an infantilized trophy wife as outsiders seem to treat her. And with all that being opposed to Goncharov's affectionate, but, imo, somewhat condescending "Katenka"? Goncharov might love Katya but he will never understand her as Sofia does.

Can't believe I haven't seen anyone talking about Sofia's "you could have been my sun" and comparing it to THE PARALLEL of "you were sunshine I was midnight rain" LIKE HELLO WHERE YOU GUYS AT

I'm sorry but I'm just thinking about fire following Sofia through her life:
- her orphanage burning
- her lighting Katya's cigarette with a match when they meet
- "you could've been my sun"
I'm losing my shit ngl

I鈥檓 so tired of people completely misconstruing the apple cart scene. Like yeah, it鈥檚 gay I won鈥檛 deny it, but it鈥檚 so much more then that! The dialogue is clearly showing that Sofia is a foil for Katya, and it makes it Katyas ending all the more powerful.
