I love reimagining Sofia the First episodes where Elena is inside the Amulet of Avalor from her perspective. You’re a sixteen-year-old heir to the throne trapped in a gemstone as a disembodied spirit with murdered parents, living family still in danger, a colonized country in need of liberation and untreated PTSD who nobody around you even knows exist. This has been your life for thirty-nine years by the time you finally find someone who might have the potential to free you. But first, you have to help her grow as a person. And all of these shenanigans keep happening. What was she thinking the whole time?

Sofia: (boasting to her friends about getting to sing the Enchancian anthem)

Elena: Oh my God, shut up. You sound like Esteban, and not in a good way.

Elena, a teenager and older sibling who hasn’t had the chance to tease anyone in roughly four decades: So… you’re expected to sing in front of a huge crowd tomorrow? Would be a shame. If something were to. Happen.

Things I wanted to know in Sofia The First

The story behind queen Lorelei's death, her love story with king Roland, the dificulties they had to go through, how everything happened, what everyone felt. How the other castle characters felt after this.

Birk Balthazar and his life with Miranda, how he was with Sofia, if she ever met him before he died. How Sofia feels about all this, how it impacted their life

A conversation between Roland and Miranda about their lost lovers. Seriously, in a natural and honest way, without that stupicidy of people feeling jealous over their partner talking about past lovers. They have something to bond over, something that only they understand.

How Winifred and Goodwyn (Cedric's parents) met eachother and fell in love. How they raised their children, in their POV's of course.

Wormwood and Cedric talking about their issue without interruptions, adrenaline, or anything bigger happening to be more exact.

Roland, Cedric and Cordelia's childhood. I'm not interested in Tilly since she doesn't really stands out to me but I think she would be there too. How they grew up in the castle, if Cedric and Cordelia had their own rooms or if their family slept inside the tower.

Cedric's first love. Just because. And he got heartbroken too unfortunately. Headcanon.

Sofia being cursed by the amulet in the episode Sofia The Worst. She lied to her parents, her siblings, broke into Cedric's workshop and made spells using his wand without permission, didn't said sorry for all the bad deeds that Sofia the worst did (at least not for each one). Elena was sleeping I suppose

If I had a nickel for everytime I saw a Latina girl with no dad, being obsessed with magic, discovers their own magic, discovers another world that's highly dangerous, be mentored by a gay criminal that becomes a parental figure, lead a rebellion to save a women obsessed with red, have an animal companion that talks and is basically a brother, have a purple witch gf with mommy issues, get given too much trauma, and love the colour purple, and a Doppleganger. Their mentors have bird companions and aren't actually bad people and reluctant but protective parents with sister issues since they were children and trauma. I'd have two nickel's.

Which isn't a lot but it's weird it's happened twice.

Zafir/Helvia/Valentine

Did the relationship start polyamorous, or was it a monogamous relationship that eventually opened?

The initial relationship was Zafir and Helvia, with Valentine being invited in much later, primarily by Zafir. But Zafir and Helvia almost always have some variation of an open relationship when its just them.

What’s the craziest polycule drama they’ve experienced so far?

The cool thing about their drama is its never really something internal, its always external. Least dramatic people but they are under attack. Honestly can't exactly answer this one for these three yet as I am still trying to figure the story out fjfjfl.

What are their “vetoes” for potential metamours? Do they have any at all?

The only one who is likely to have metamours is Zafir. Some red flags for metamours for Helvia and Valentine would be:

Possessiveness/jealousy to a toxic degree: A little jealousy is fine, perhaps even healthy. A lot of it is concerning.

Lack of willingness to communicate

Lack of respect for Zafir's priorities

Does the polycule ever have get-togethers or dates where everyone is present? What are they like?

Yes, they act as a family unit. Not so much "dates" in the typical sense, but they spend most of their meals together. One of their favorite activities is early morning tea. They talk about current events/plans for the day.

What are their sexual dynamics like? Is group sex frequent, or is it purely one-on-one?

I would say its about 50/50 group activities and one on one. Zafir and Helvia are the most active, with Helvia having the highest libido. Best way I have to describe their dynamic as a group is the charts below from an OT3 chart I filled out a long while ago:

Zafir is sex positive asexual, and Valentine is demisexual.

Zafir's libido is very dependent on his partners. This isn't to say he doesn't have his own desires and fantasies, but he is less likely to be the one who initiates. He is very capable of living without for long periods but also more than happy to be intertwined every day.

Valentine's inexperience is met with the patience it deserves. He was untouched and had no interest in pursuing touch at the time of their meeting. Touch, sexual or otherwise, was reserved for only those Valentine committed his full heart to. He couldn't imagine being intimate with anyone below this standard.

Are any of the members keeping their polyamory a secret? Why?

None of them are secretive about it, but definitely play by a "need to know" mindset. This is to more or less protect themselves, especially when children get involved.

Has anyone experienced a particularly messy break-up while in the polycule? How did everyone handle it?

Not a breakup so much as one of them was dead for about twenty years, and it was before the full arrangement occurred. Call me River Song because, well, spoilers. I don't want to say too much about my plans :3c

I will say Zafir doesn't handle any of it well internally. I will give y'all this crumb.

Which of the members, if any, would be happy in a monogamous relationship if having a polycule wasn’t possible? Would any rather be single than monogamous?

None of them would be unhappy in monogamy, I think if anything. Its a bit of a neutral question.

For Helvia, she just desires to be loved and to feel in love, regardless of the number of people involved. She has a hard time imagining anyone else besides Zafir and/or Valentine at her side, however.

Zafir deeply desires connection. He wants to understand and to be understood. It takes effort to break down his walls. He is fine with keeping them up, but he is much happier to share with others.

Valentine's altruism is difficult to not fall in love with, and he desires little for himself. If I had to pinpoint one thing, he desires purpose. He has a tendency to see things in others that they do not see in themselves. I don't know if this is really anything but I feel like it is relevant to him and how he navigates romance.

Balthazar/Serana/Sofia

**note: Sofia is not my character, she is a fairly popular follower mod for Skyrim on Nexus. Anything I say about her is merely interpretation and I do not mean any offense to her original creator(s). Also these three are terrible for each other.

I don't think Balthazar would know what the word "commitment" meant if he got slapped with a dictionary. He is very convincing, and good at twisting his intentions to sound good or beneficial for everyone involved. I think Serana was fully aware of this, and saw directly through his bullshit, then decided it really wasn't her problem (it was).

Sofia was involved with Balthazar before he was turned vampire by Harkon. They stumbled across one another when Balthazar first arrived in Skyrim. He believed her when she said she knew everything there is to know. He kept her around when he realized that was a lie. Sofia was there when he found the sanctuary in Falkreath, and the resulting fallout. She never fully committed to being an agent of Sithis, to which Balthazar banished her from the Dawnstar sanctuary. He didn't see her again until years later, after establishing a relationship with Serana. I think that certainly took Sofia aback. She viewed Balthazar for what he presented, and never got to peel back the layers. Their relationship was surface level, Balthazar intended to keep it that way. Yet Sofia would not leave the couple alone. Serana may or may not take the slightest pleasure in seeing Balthazar writhe.

What’s the craziest polycule drama they’ve experienced so far?

There's so much I can think of for this because they have a baseline toxicity level of battery acid. Here's some silly ones:

The subject of Balthazar's side pieces will never not be funny to Sofia and Serana. They are his biggest bullies. They know the bar is in Oblivion. He has the rest of his immortal life to regret hooking up with fucking Cicero, once, three years ago, and they will remind him every day.

One time Balthazar let it slip he was a little more hands on with Harkon. Serana told him he was pathetic and desperate. They made up eventually but Sofia got to play glorified messenger for a week. She proceeded to entertain herself by lying to both of them about what the other was saying.

Sophia randomly disappears for weeks at a time to gods know where. Balthazar only finds out down the grapevine where as Serana is the first to know. Their lack of communication is astounding.

Balthazar is oddly jealous of Serana and Sofia's relationship. He almost prefers if they hated each other.

What are their “vetoes” for potential metamours? Do they have any at all?

Sofia and Balthazar likely have casual hookups outside of the polycule, but they don't particularly share this information unless asked by one of the others. If anyone is insane enough to follow one of these people home and say "yes I want to be part of this too" well. That's on them idk what to say.

Does the polycule ever have get-togethers or dates where everyone is present? What are they like?

I like to think they try, and when they do try it is mostly pleasant. Too bad they never learn and the cycle of endless drama continues. I'd say they have one good get together every month, and its normally just right place right time. As for what they do? Aha, well ;)

80/20, one-on-one to group. Serana and Balthazar are around each other more often than not, but I like to think Serana will seek Sofia when Balthazar is being a pain. Its almost like she wants Balthazar to feel jealous and it works every time.

I like to headcannon Sofia to be more asexual. I can't really articulate further thats just her vibe to me.

Are any of the members keeping their polyamory a secret? Why?

I would say Serana is more embarrassed by Balthazar than anything even though they are obviously together. I think she uses Sofia as a scapegoat. This only works until Silavar--Serana and Balthazar's son--is born. It is a little difficult to hide who the father of an obviously half-mer child is when there are very few dunmer in and around Dawnstar/Solitude.

I don't think anyone has experienced a full break up yet. I like to think Serana is the type of woman to cut her losses and not turn back. But that would require Balthazar or Sofia doing something truly heinous. I think she makes excuses for Balthazar in particular because when she was at her lowest, he was at her side. That being said she is not afraid to stand her ground and draw boundaries, she knows Balthazar will get over it. And he does. There have been times where Balthazar has been convinced she will leave with Sofia (and he fucking deserves that) but they both endure.

Which of the members, if any, would be happy in a monogamous relationship if having a polycule wasn’t possible? Would any rather be single than monogamous?

They all kinda inserted themselves into this situation. Sofia in particular just couldn't keep her nose out of Serana and Balthazar's business. Balthazar was single for many years before he met Serana, it was probably for the best for both himself and others. But now Serana and Balthazar are totally codependent on each other so I think, if anything, just them would be fine. Things only grew complicated when Sofia was brought in, and all of them are to blame for that. Mostly Balthazar.

I've been thinking about Sofia the First lately (I know it's for toddlers, but it's cute and I like it and shut up). Mainly, I've been thinking about Birk Balthazar.

By the time the series started, dude had already been presumed dead for several years. But what if he didn't actually die?

I'm imagining this guy going on this odyssey, desperately trying to get back to the family he left behind. But when he finally arrives after so many years, he's already too late.

His wife, happily remarried to the motherfucking king. His daughter, being given the life and education and opportunities he would have never been able to provide.

What do you even do in the situation? Stay "dead" and don't mess up their new lives? Reveal yourself and deal with whatever shit happens? I'd watch/read the fuck outta that.

Yall would not believe how Roland wasn't actually forcing Sofia to call him dad, and in fact, was unsure of what would be more comfortable for her to call him.

You can clearly see how Roland didn't want Sofia to feel like she had to address him as formally as she was with "Your Majesty," but didn't want to force her to call him something she wasn't comfortable with. Especially since he's just getting to know her, Roland wouldn't want to rush Sofia into calling him dad, since she would need time to adjust with having a new father.

Roland was just suggesting some names that Sofia could use, and maybe would've been ok with Sofia using Your Majesty if it was by her choice, but the way she sounded nervous while addressing him made him reassure her that she didn't need to worry about being formal with him.

And I say maybe because "Your Majesty" sounds like something Roland's father might've made him address him as. If Roland had to be formal with his own father, it would've made him feel detached from even having a real father, instead feeling he was being raised by an authority figure. Roland wouldn't want Sofia to feel that way.

Roland would want his children to feel comfortable calling him whatever they wanted because he wants them to know that he respects them and cares for them emotionally.

Personality: Female Perry is best described as “The Girly” younger sister of Perry. She loves spending time with her siblings and she doesn’t like when her ballgown gets dirty. She has the same aspects of Perry but most of the time, she is a bossy, arrogant, and superficial female platypus who does everything in her power to crush and humiliate the other O.W.C.A. agents. She only thinks highly of herself and lowly of others as she believes that she deserves everything and takes pride in her secret agent lifestyle. While being callous and careless to anyone but herself, she could be cowardly and easily scared of danger often caused by Dr. Doofenshmirtz's inators used to take over TSA. Despite all of these traits, Female Perry can be courageous as she is willingly helpful when asked by those she is close to or admires, such as helping Perry and the rest of her siblings to defeat Doof. As Agent FemP, she is proud of her abilities and wants to prove herself to Perry that she can be a good secret agent for the O.W.C.A. As a dream demon, she does everything in her power to crush and make deals with the other agents. When she’s making a deal with someone, her greenish teal gloved hand starts burning with light blue flames. As a siren, she’s proud of her abilities and feeds on the positivity around her.

An understatement! Then theirs also Javan and Linde thought it’s Javan’s fault that relationship fell apart. Is their any specific reason why cross species unions with elves always ended poorly for they guys? Or is this just a thing that happened?

Wow, good observation Anon! I didn’t even notice this myself! Now that you lay it all out on the table, I totally see it.

To be honest though, I think a lot of this is just coincidental given that there happens to be a lot of elven characters in the cast. The fact that they’re elves is usually irrelevant to the reasons these relationships ended in disaster--they could have been any species and things would have gone the same way.

I can think of a few elf/elf relationships that ended badly too. Ojio and Tarajeen (Tarajeen was forcibly institutionalized), Riona and Nemeto (both murdered), Dario and Ivy (Dario murdered Ivy), Dario and Lilian (Zeffer murdered Dario).

And plenty of non-elf relationships: Evan and Jelani (messy breakup), Olof and Haldora (separated in a raid), Mr. Ocean and Solveig (Mr. Ocean outlived her by centuries), Sofia and Foster (Foster was eaten by Bigbad), Rene and Sebastian (Sebastian died of disease and Rene killed herself shortly after), Oggsa and Vingevar (Vingevar cheated on Oggsa and fled with the other woman), Moswen and Ekwame (Ekwame widowed Moswen), Elska and her unnamed fiance (Elska got cold feet and left him at the altar)...

The series is still far from over, so we’ll see if one of these poor elves can have a happy, functional relationship for once! One thing has become apparent to me today...almost every relationship in this series somehow ends in tragedy. Gotta love the drama!
