“What’s wrong?”

Hands on your thigh, worry laced Miitsuya’s voice when he found you sitting on a pavement in the middle of nowhere, tears cascading down your cheeks.

Startled was understatement. You tried in vain to rub at your cheeks in an attempt to hide the peppered trail of tears, but that was of no use as more tears were relentlessly flowing out of your eyes, betraying your attempt to conceal your distress.

Stupid eyes!

Mitsuya’s eyes narrowed at you with worry.

“Is there someone I’m gonna have to beat up?” He asked sternly.

“N—no! It’s nothing, Taka! Don’t worry about it!” you stuttered, feeling utterly exposed before the person you'd recently begun to admire, tangled in a web of unspoken emotions.

y/n’s POV

I stutter, foot in mouth in front of the guy I recently caught feelings for. Well, obviously after moving on from Draken, the reason being that Emma likes him too. And he clearly likes her back, but who wouldn’t? Her happy demeanor would charm the unfeeling, her soft features would make anyone develop heart eyes. And then there was I, the less attractive, less important Sano sibling who’s been constantly devoured by Emma’s shadow.

Don’t get me wrong, Mikey is a great brother to me, he’s just…emotionally unavailable.

“Then why are you crying?” Mistsuya asks, softness caressing his voice as he moves to sit next to me instead of in front of me, a gesture of quiet support.

I hesitated, torn between sharing my feelings and shielding them. But his eyes were inviting me to confound in them, promising me to find solace within their depth. Pale, yet captivating. I could see myself swimming in them, in a sea filled with tranquility.

I turn my head again, facing front and look at the ground.

“I—I’m fed up, Taka. I’ve been living in Emma’s shadow for almost my whole life, and I get it, she’s pretty and pretty people are obviously…more favored. She’s just very charming and—I’m —I’m just the less important, invisible Sano sibling. I—I’m trying so hard to just break free…but it’s so hard!” I open up, tears flowing down my flushed cheeks again.

Mitsuya was silent. But his silence was comforting, it told me, in an unspoken whisper, to continue.

“I—I really don’t know what to do, Taka! I’m r—really—really trying! And I—“

I choked on my words, interrupted by Mitsuya shifting to kneel in front of me, meeting my eyes at eye level

His gaze spoke volumes—love, care, and a sense of belonging.

He grabbed a lock of my hair, gently twirling it around his finger and started speaking, his words laden with sincerity.

“Who said that you aren’t pretty, y/n? I think you’re absolutely gorgeous, hell, I find you prettier than Emma!” He grins as he releases the lock of hair and reaches up to my cherry-like cheeks, the pad of his thumb wiping my tears away, making my heart skip a beat. Or two.

“You don’t have to be like Emma, y/n, being you is what makes you stand out the most. I can reassure you that you’re liked as much as Emma is by everyone around you, yeah?” He smiles as he stand up up once more, stretching his hand out to me.

His gestures alleviated my burdens, and I grasped his hand as he pulled me up.

It was unexpected, very unexpected actually, but as soon as i stood up, his arms wrapped around my torso, embracing me with an infinite amount of warmness as clang on to him, wanting to melt into him as I’ve never felt so at peace before. I don’t want to ever leave his embrace.

The wind softly hummed as we stood, in the middle of nowhere, clinging onto each other. He pulled away, planting a kiss on the top of my head.

“Feeling better?”

“Yeah—thank you Taka,” I smiled at him.

“Of course, now let’s go get some ice cream—I’m starving!” He whined jokingly as he guided me to his motorcycle, handing me a helmet.

And with that, the both of us were dashing against the wind, as my hand were tightly wrapped around his torso.

“S-slow down, Taka!” I yelled, scared for my life.

A chuckle came out of his mouth as he sped up.

“Whatever you say, m’lady!”

You sighed and put your phone on the charger before deciding you should get some sleep before going to dinas.

you woke up and looked at the flashing red numbers on your alarm clock that read 6:18 AM

you got up and put some sweatpants on along with a hoodie before putting your laptop charger phone and a dress to change into for the party that night into your tote bag. you grabbed your shoes and began tying then when you heard shuffling on the other side of the room

shit you thought to yourself. you really didn’t wanna have to face ellie this morning but she was your roomate after all.

“where are you going this early” she said rubbing her eyes. her voice sounded so raspy, you felt the same butterflies you tried so hard to get rid of senior year but now they were back.

“shit sorry did i wake you up?” you said standing up to look at her ignoring her previous question.

“yea kinda but you didn’t answer my question, where are you going?” she said a little harsher now. “just dinas, ill be back pretty late too so dont wait up” you replied. “oh? and where are you going thats keeping you out so late” ellie replied standing up crossing her arms. she was just wearing a tanktop and sweats, her muscular arms on full display. trying to divert your attention so you wouldnt stare you tried to reply. “just some stupid frat party”.

“oh? well im going to a frat party myself tonight so i guess well both be back late” she said smirking slightly. you rolled your eyes. “yeah ok” you replied turning around and walking to the front door. you opened it but before you closed it again you heard ellie say “you cant pretend nothing happened, y/n” after you heard that you quickly shut the door and started on your way to dinas dorm.

“you need to have an actual conversation with her y/n” dina said. you had spent the last hour and a half talking about your situation with ellie.

“but how i cant even say hi to her without feeling like im going to throw up from how nervous i am” you whined. you could tell dina was tired of listening to you but you didn’t really have anyone else that would put up with it.

“well its gonna happen weather you like it or not, but for now lets focus on your outfit for the party” you knew dina was trying to be helpful by changing the subject but you weren’t completely ready to stop talking about the situation between you and ellie but you complied with dinas request.

“ugh fine, hold on let me get my new dress i bought like two days ago” you showed her the dress. it was black with some glitter and off the shoulder sleeves.

“oh my god it looks amazing! you have to try it on for me” you rolled your eyes before going into the bathroom to change. when you walked out to show dina she opened her mouth slightly with a shocked expression across her face.

“holy shit y/n you look fucking amazing.”

you walked into the party with your hair and makeup done by dina. you made a beeline to the drink table dragging dina with you terrified to see ellie sober. you poured some alcohol from a bottle of straight vodka into a small shot glass sized solo cup.

“jeez slow down” dina said with a slightly concerned look as you downed the first shot and started pouring your second one.

“she said she was going to be here and i cannot be sober when i see her” you said after drinking your second shot.

“well how about you come dance for a bit before you get to wasted” dina spoke as she grabbed your wrist and dragged you into a crowd of sweaty bodies all dancing with the music. after a couple of minutes of pure uncomfort you told dina you were getting another drink. you walked over to the table and poured yourself a cup of vodka and punch and decided to go outside to the patio to get some fresh air.

you stepped outside closing the sliding glass door behind you. it was completely empty which was good. it made it easier for you to think. you sat against the wall and closed your eyes taking a sip of your concoction every once and a while listening to the slight beat of the music coming from inside. you thought about a lot of things, college, classes, but mostly ellie. you knew you couldnt avoid the subject forever, but you wished things could just go back to normal. you both being on speaking terms with no romantic feelings for eachother, but it was a little late for that now, and you couldnt keep pushing ellie away, she was your roomate now but you also missed what you used to have. maybe talking to her would be able to do that, but you still wanted to put it off for as long as possible.

you were deep in your thoughts when you heard the sliding sound of the glass door open. you thought it was dina looking for you so you just said, “yeah yeah i know dina just give me like five minutes and ill go back in” however the voice that you thought belonged to your best friend sounded nothing like her, instead it was ellie. “well im not dina but you should probably go back inside” she spoke.

you were pulled out of your thoughts at the sound of her voice looking over at her as she made her way to sit down next to you.

you already being somewhat drunk you responded to her with a little attitude “what do you want, did dina tell you i was going to be out here or something” “well for one i wasnt looking for you, i didnt even know you were going to be out here, i just came outside to smoke, but it’s probably a good thing i found you, we need to talk” she says pulling out a joint from the back pocket of her jeans. she was wearing acid washed dark blue jeans and a maroon tshirt with a sage green flannel over it. she had her hair in a half up half down bun style and of course, her black converse.

you watched intently as she placed the joint between her lips and lit it, the smell hitting your nose as she inhaled and exhaled the substance.

“you shouldve said something, senior year, i might’ve even felt the same”. she started to speak again. “but what if you didnt?”. “then thats it, atleast we wouldve gotten it out of the way”. you wished that what she was saying was true but you knew better. “dont act like it wouldnt have been a big deal ellie, you and i both know that it would change our entire friendship, plus what about cat?”

there was a moment of silence before ellie spoke again “me and cat broke up after a few months but we werent even dating when you cut me off. we couldve tried it out. we couldve gone on dates and shit. We couldve made it work, even if we decided to just be friends.”

after another moment of silence you decided to say something. “what if we tried just being friends again, we cant really avoid eachother anymore you know since were roomates and shit” you proposed. you didn’t want to be just freinds but after months of not talking you couldnt just ask her to date you. Ellie however wanted you to ask her to be more.

“so just friends? nothing more?” ellie said as she turned to look at you. occasionally glancing at your lips.

“well i mean i just thought-“ you were cut off by ellie. “you thought i wouldnt say yes if you asked me to be more?”. you felt heat rise up to your face as ellie moved slightly closer but enough to the point where your shoulders were touching. “i mean, i-i guess?” you were able to stutter out.

“well what if i told you i wouldve said yes?” as she spoke she moved her face closer to yours to the point where you could slightly feel her breath against you.

“i-i dont” before you could finish you were cut off by her lips lightly pressing against yours. you were shocked for a moment but eventually gave in and kissed her back as she flicked her joint elsewhere. the kiss became more lustful when she slightly bit on your bottom lip and entering her tounge in your mouth when you gasped. you put your hands on the sides of her face to pull her in even more. she pulled you onto her lap and her knee pressed slightly onto your core making you gasp and pull away from the kiss for a moment. you felt your arousal growing as your underwear slowly became wet. you wanted so badly for it to go further but you knew you couldnt do it on the patio of a frat party.

ellie tried kissing you again but you held her shoulders to stop her. “ this is amazing but i think we should go back inside, dinas probably worried by now”

“hmm ok but remember we’re roommates”

this was such a bad idea. Me and chris had a…thing going on for a while, it was basically just a big game of cat and mouse, of who would give into the other first, we would meet at a party or go over to the others house and then would go silent on each other for sometimes weeks, before one of us gave in.

I sigh as I turn my phone off and stare at my ceiling. I don’t know why I keep going back to him, I Mean he’s not bad to me but he can’t commit and is so far up his own ass its honestly concerning.

I lie there for a few minutes before I heard rapid knocking on my front door. Hes here. I get up from my bed and walk out of my room towards my front door, I stop infront of it and take a final sigh of pure disappointment before reaching for the handle and pulling the door open.

“Hay” is the first thing he says as I open the door, his eyes trailing down my body and a smirk on his face. His brown fresh love hoodie, camo pants and his messy brown hair making him look a bit to good. This is why I always go back to him.

“Hello chris” I say moving aside from my door so he can step inside of my apartment which he does very quickly, making himself at home very quickly on my couch.

“You want a drink?” I ask him as I walk over to my kitchen “yeah sure” he replies I nod to myself and grab two Pepsis out of my fridge and walk back over to him and hand it to him, he nods his head to the side signalling for me to sit next to him.

“I was thinking w could go to my room” I said and he nodded getting up “whatever you want ma” he smirks as he starts walking to my room me trailing behind him. The two of us sitting on my bed comfortably. The two of us just looking at each other in since for a few minutes.

I just sit there for a moment as I prepare myself, I don’t know how he’s gonna react, I don’t think he could ever be cruel to me but its still scary that he could be mad or even disgusted.

Its actually all me” I let a dry, humourmess chuckle “Ive realised that I’ve started to feel…more things towards you, and know I need to end it because thats not fair on you” I take a breathe in and close my eyes waiting for a reply.

“Not fair to me?” Is all he says as e looks at his hands in his lap. I furrow my brows out of everything thats what he is questioning.

Mediaposting 2023, #35: Banana Fish (anime)

[said while vibrating very quickly and typing out like 20 different bullet points] i like this series a normal amount

okay so. non-spoiler thoughts:

step 1 YOU SHOULD READ/WATCH THIS. it does have content warnings for literally everything you can possibly think of as needing a common content warning (drug abuse, sexual assault, racism, and thats absolutely just the tip of the iceberg) but my fucking god. no wonder it's been such an influential piece of media on literally every jp anime/manga crime story (especially the BL ones) written since

for a series that is literally one of the early genesis points of BL as a genre i was ABSOLUTELY expecting more actual BL than was in this LOL. not that i'm really upset, bc honestly i really like the way that ash and eiji's relationship is written in a shoujo-y "they obviously care about each other a lot but it's not going to be outright romance" kind of way. bc like, honestly? that makes it way more emotionally satisfying (and devastating). i think it would actually make less sense if anything more happened In the story (though more happening in the epilogue wouldnt hurt LOL)

how the FUCK was this published in a shoujo magazine

the time period change to modern day from the mid-80's has both helped and hindered this series bc like. on one hand. much easier to do everything with a phone. also the update to shorter's character design was excellent,10/10 no notes. on the other hand. the Everything About It makes it so obvious that it was written to be a product of its time.

speaking of ^ ash turning from A Guy Who Knows How To Use A Computer into a hacking genius is so. why. i mean you can update it for sure but Why Like This

god i wish this had more room to breathe sometimes bc the exposition goes WILDLY fast sometimes. why did they try and do 19 volumes in 24 episodes. the 39 episodes that the director wanted would have been so nice to have

that said: the emotional moments that i actually give a shit about and that make up the core of the weight of the story are given what they deserve. at least up to volume 5 they are. gestures at ep 9? and 22 with a pained smile

i literally could write an essay about why it works so well as a spin on the american-style gangster story even while it definitely has flaws. and how its influenced so many fucking things. my god.

it has flaws for SURE but the rest is so good that i don't care. which is rare for me (gestures at nirvanai/neo twewy being other examples)

it does kind of annoy me that literally all of the canon-MLM (probably gay but you know) guys are horrible people lol. like wow love how the gay predator stereotype is on full display here. feeeeels baaaaad. i know i know asheiji homoeroticism i am ON THAT TRAIN

however yut-lung being feminine out of a wish to carry on his dead mom's legacy is kind of a slay. ive seen people go "ugh it sucks that one of the villains is a feminine man' but while he is definitely not a good person hes one of the less terrible villains, just like. as a person. hes also a teenager in shitty circumstances just with way more power and sway

here's the part where I admit that I was spoiled on the ending so it didn't hit as hard for me OOPS. however. the anime DOES leave it open-ended and it fucking irritates me that anime-only people are like "boo i hate the ending bc ash dies!!!" when it is LITERALLY AMBIGUOUS. i have heard that the manga is less ambiguous about it but :') oh well. anime-onlys what are you doing

speaking of ^ i actually like the ending. like i think a lot of people who absolutely hate it must not have a lot of familiarity with gangster movies as a genre bc it is a genre convention that the Main Gangster dies in the end. granted this was a hayes code thing which the manga definitely did not have to do LOL but its definitely supposed to feel unfair bc ash's damn LIFE is unfair.

however i'm glad the anime makes the ending ambiguous bc that feels like a more fitting end. like ash's life was always in limbo, considering what he was doing, so making his life in limbo at the end too? Good. Yes. Do That

the fucking. everything with shorter and the sa-yo-na-ra bit. i die. that shit is so emotionally painful

i know this sounds weird but i kind of wish they dragged out the "what the hell does banana fish mean" thing a LIIIITTLE longer but by that i mean like, halfway point of the series. like they could have used a little more time to figure out what it is. also that would have let shorter live a little longer ay lmao that said this criticism also almost definitely applies to the manga soooo. you know

Then you saw soldier sitting at the table reading something. While approaching him you got the idea, oh thats perfect hehe... He then saw you. ''Oh! hello-cupca-'' *you pulled his collar and kissed him roughly* !? w-what. His face was red. (Oh~so thats what he looks like when he is pure shock, hehe its so cute!) He then dropped his book, and you picked it up. ''Oh, soldier what are you reading? It looks interesting'' He was still bright red. He couldn't even for a sentence. ''Well, I, um, I'' Then engi called for you, ''Oh gotta go! See you later soldier~'' This is one of the rare moments when he stutters and is just speechless. By the way, he got revenge by kissing you even more rougher the next day. I guess you are both even now :3
