Just watched Brokeback Mountain for the first time and I need to talk about it.
Throughout the movie, we see Ennis experience a lot of intense discomfort and fear at the idea of being intimate with a man, despite it becoming abundantly clear in the details and based on his actions that that is indeed what he wants. He even admits to Jack that this fear stems from an experience he had at a young age, when his father showed him two men who were presumed to be lovers (they were roommates vibes), murdered and castrated, with him basically using it as a lesson to show Ennis that being gay was wrong and would get you killed.
Jack on the other hand was a little less discomforted or fearful at the idea of being with a man, in that we actually saw him return the following summer to Brokeback Mountain hoping Ennis would be there, only for him to show up alone. We saw how after this he confidently approached a man at the bar hoping to get to know him, only to get rejected and risk getting hate crimed (foreshadowing š). And we saw how, over time, Jackās struggle had more to do with being hurt over Ennisā unwillingness to commit or even just consider the possibility of them being together long term, even despite the risk of being gay in the 60ās.
Near the end of the film, upon Jackās death, Ennis discovers from his father that over the past 20 years since they met at Brokeback Mountain, Jack constantly brought it up to his folks, how Ennis, his friend, was going to move up to their ranch and they were going to build a cabin and live together and take over for the family.
Jack was often the one in the moment taking the chances for them to be together. He was the one who mentioned that they could go to Mexico, with Ennis furiously rejecting it saying āyou know what happens to people like you there??ā
But whatās even more painful, is that in this same scene, Ennisā acknowledges the truth more directly, and why itās so painful is because it ends up ironically coming true:
Here, Ennis is basically saying that if he decides to be with Jack for real, aka faces his queerness head on, thatās going to be the thing that gets them (Jack) killed. Shortly after this, Jack loses it and has that infamous ass monologue, followed by Ennis breaking down over how itās Jackās fault that heās this way in the first place.
In the end, when Jack dies, Ennis finds out about what happened from Jackās wife, Lureen Newsome, who said Jack was pumping up a flat out on a backroad when his tire blew up, with the rim of the tire slamming his face, breaking his nose and jaw, and knocking him unconscious on his back. By the time someone drove by on the deserted backroad, he had drowned in his own blood.
The audience mightāve believed this story, if it wasnāt for how rehearsed it sounded coming out of Lureenās mouth, but it also doesnāt help that images of Jack being hate crimed as his true cause of death are flashing across Ennisās mind in real time while Lureen is telling him about the āaccidentā.
While itās left up to interpretation, itās implied from what his wife and father said, that Jack was hate-crimed by his father in law, with it being covered up.
Broken nose? Broken jaw?ā¦ Those are the kinds of wounds someone endures after being beaten up. And if itās happening to the point of death, then he was essentially beaten to death.
This then fits into what Jackās father said, because apparently, shortly before he died, heād told his father heād found a different friend that was going to come up there to the ranch with him. And so itās very likely Lureenās father caught wind of this as his plans to leave neared, leading to his murder (Jack also bitched his father in law tf out in an epic way, which on its own felt unnecessary in the moment, but within the context of this makes a whole lot more sense).
Either way, it seems Jack waited for Ennis to change his mind. 20 years he waited, and when Ennis didnāt, Jack finally moved on with someone else who made an offer of his own years before, only to get murdered just as Ennis feared he would if he decided to live his life authentically.
Ennis initially found out like this, in a postcard that bounced of him inquiring Jack about seeing each other again after that last massive fall out where they had, only for Ennisās worst fear to be realized:

Now, obviously Brokeback Mountain is one of the most well known queer films of all time, like thereās no denying that. So itās fairly easy to assume ST could be taking some inspiration from this film just like they have with hundreds upon hundreds of other films. But especially if they are planning to go the queer route, homage to this film is pretty much guaranteed (thereās also one more reason it might be guaranteed, but Iām saving that for the end š¤£).
Regardless, as you can probably already tell, itās very easy to see similarities between Ennis with Mike and Jack with Will.
Mike getting the āyou see Michael? You see what happens?ā treatment from his father, in the first episode in the series, is very Ennis coded in that this is a TV show that follows that up with seasons of Mike pushing Will away from him, with it leading to a boiling point where he says, āWhat did you think? Really? That we were never gonna get girlfriends? That we were just gonna sit in my basement in play games for the rest of our lives?ā with Will responding, āYeah. I guess I did. I really did,ā aka extremely Jack coded.
The really epic thing about this though, is that ST is clearly going on a different journey than Brokeback Mountain did, in that itās simply subverting the bury your gays trope. While they are acknowledging the risk of being queer in the 80ās, theyāre not letting it end ārealisticallyā like many people have insisted it must because that is the only option. And this will be a satisfying ending because itās coming as a response to all those heartbreaking stories before it that have reinforced this idea that happy endings just arenāt an option for gay people who simply want to be together.
While Ennis and Jack didnt get their happy ending like they wanted, Mike and Will on the other hand š
And last but not least, on a more hilariously ironic note, the guy who Jack was going to settle for in the end instead of Ennis, was a guy named Randall Malone, played by none other than David fucking Harbour.

you said what I was thinking about yangs concept v2 dress the dress is gorgeous but it looks more like something you'd wear while out clubbing rather than prom, it looks like yang is trying to keep up the party girl facade, as you said thats not yang and I definitely cannot see post v9 yang ever wearing something like that again (crwby please put her in a suit š„ŗ) besides animation limitations I think monty deliberately chose to put her in a plain dress to show as you said that Yang is unsure of herself and how she wants to present herself to the world, white is a neutral color, a middle ground between the feminine carefree party girl facade and the real yang she has yet to discover and explore (the more butch esque not afraid to ask questions I will help save the people of mantle yang we know and love right now)
Its interesting to contrast with blake because monty did keep alot of elements from her concept dress in her canon dress which ended up being more fancier and I guess lavish than yangs dress, and we see during the dance a brief glance of the real blake, the happy cheerful blake that still dances despite having two left feet. Yang pulled Blake from the shadows to have fun at least this one night and blake came out swinging with the purple dress with a thigh slit and fancy embroidery going up the side with mesh sleeves and a teal bow. Meanwhile Yang just shows in a plain white dress and spends her time watching over blake, despite everyone else probably Expecting Yang to be the shining extravagant star of the party
The fact you can see Yang admiring Blake from the balcony part of me wonders if yang wishes at that moment she could be as brave as Blake, to show the world(or at least her fellow peers) who she really is without fear of being abandoned and ridiculed for it.
Also a hc of mine but yang probably watched jaune show up confidently in that dress and that got her to thinking about weiss's offer to see try out a suit tailor, maybe for the next beacon dance (which of course there wouldn't be, but hey you never no vacuo still here)
Sorry for the long essay. Also I think it's a shame no one gives praise to Blake's prom dress both the concept and canon ones, the girl has style and no one gives her credit for it š
This is so good and reinforces what we already know about them. What we see of Blake at the dance is foreshadowing of the woman she's going to be. Stylish and beautiful and like you said, carefree for one night.
And it's because of Yang just like now.
Yang helped Blake become the silly, sweet happy woman she is now and Blake helped Yang become more comfortable as who she is and dropping the mask she'd been hiding behind.

Jauneās not coming back to Remnant
I think him mentioning that Alyx sacrificed her brother to the tree so that she could leave is heavy foreshadowing.
I think Jaune is going to sacrifice himself to the tree to get team rwby outā¦thatās just the type of guy he is.
At this point he doesnāt have anything left to lose. Heās lived the now majority of his life without those he holds close.
Assumedly/roughly 20+ years here in the Ever After. No contact with his family, the rest of his team, his friends. Nothing. Yeah sure, he must have met others seeing as he says he has a village to bring Ruby and co to, but still. Everything heās known is gone.
Getting his friends back home would be the most important thing to him, even if it meant sacrificing his life.
I really hope Iām wrong, but I donāt think soā¦at least heāll finally get some rest

I had this theory that it would happen by XChara running away, Frisk thinking heās like the others and trying to hurt people, Fight (?) ensues between XChara and maybe Papyrus or Asgore, trying to protect Frisk, XChara explains everything then boom besties but now iām not sure because of the whole thing with XChara needing āpure determinationā to defy XGaster.
I also remember seeing a theory on reddit about the names of each XTale characterās battle themes being foreshadowing for season 2, it was something about how XPapyrus seems to really really hate being on XGasterās side, and his battle themeās name is deceit, so maybe heās lying about his loyalty to XGaster or something along those lines
and it would make sense, but it makes me question the names of everyone elseās battle theme, specifically XFriskās, being āDuplicityā

synonyms: two-facedness, decietfulness, deception, funny business, shenanigans, you get the idea
if this whole āBattle theme names being foreshadowingā theory is true, then is he also lying to XGaster about his loyalty? or, to my dismay, would he be lying about something else later onā¦?
straight up, XMuffetās is Insurrect, and us americans, after what happened on january 6th 2021, know what insurrection means.

(I'm so sorry for this but) in a roundabout way don't you think Loki taking the brunt of the fall-and-slide off the time runway a foreshadow for him taking the brunt of holding onto the entire multiverse so his new boy best friend can continue to exist? And the fact that he re-materialized and slammed all the way into Mobius' arms really cemented the fact that he was timeslipping back to him the whole time??
Oh no please don't be sorry anon, if anything Lokius angst is probably fueling at least 97.2% of my existence at this point so by all means keep it coming š
And yes, I was just thinking about this the other day!! Tbh the first ep of S2 is full of foreshadowing about Loki's fate (most notably the sheets of paper that cover enough of the TVA logo to spell āTime Authorā when he's looking for a time stick in the future TVA to get back to Mobius) and it's definitely not a coincidence all the time Mobius spent in S1 fighting to give Loki the chance to be whoever he wanted essentially manifested in Loki realizing what he wants is to be someone there for Mobius in the same way which we see in his every action afterwards.
Then there's Loki's timeslipping which is SUCH a cool visual impact but also just satisfyingly obvious which is probably the main reason I love it, lol. How unbelievably telling that at first when it happens as Loki's anxiety or nervousness builds he's only able to take better control after following the trail of getting back to Mobius then even more so after Mobius physically and emotionally grounds him. Then of course when A.D. Doug explains if Loki focuses on what he "needs" he can control his timeslipping, that's why his reply of needing to save the TVA doesn't activate anything until he gives in to what he *personally* needs first and foremost which is to get back to Don and figure out how to give Mobius the choices he was never afforded upon creation, only to end up doing so in a way that took away the one thing Mobius did want and now here we are š
#once again cutting myself off before i ramble all night about timeslipping centering fully about mobius bc i could lol#but getting an entire season of starcrossed love deep enough to break every boundary of time space and being was a gift#unfortunately for mobius having more time doesn't exactly matter if loki's not there too and vice versa#no denying the strength of gesture though š#need them to have reunited yesterday but. at the same time angst looks sooooooooo good on them :')))#and tysm for the ask!! as i said please never apologize for bringing up the doom of narrative that is their entire being haha#just makes everything working out someday that much sweeter and it will i just know it#hope you've been having a wonderful weekend š#ask

okay, i breathed.
holy shit kami.
first of all, āa tinge of angstā is a MAJOR understatement. my heart was pounding, my head was reeling, and my knuckles were turning white from gripping my phone. YOU KILL ME, KAMI.
i always understood the Gojo delulu, but holy shit. iām sure this isnāt the last time weāll run into him, but the way that last kiss felt so permanent made my heart shatter. THIS MOTHERFUCKER SAID HEāD THINK ABOUT KIDNAPPING THE READER and you have the audacity to write him so well that i was okay with it for a brief moment so long as it meant that weād still have him around šš
that Sukuna passage was ominous from beginning to end š„¹ something is coming and i know iām not ready for it. just talking to him gave me major anxiety again. it was like a reminder that while the list is over, the consequences of that list are still revealing itself. iām overanalyzing that whole passage to see what it could be foreshadowing to. i have a few ideas, but every one of them is making me go crazy. oh my fucking god. while the Sukuna scenes have been so great, considering his relation to Choso iām slightly going insane from the possibility (guarantee?) that Choso will find out about this. UGHHHHHHH

I want to see how curious, bitey, untamed Elphie came to be so gentle and doting to Nessa. Was it instant, or did she have to learn? Turtle Heart did say "she herself is pleased at the half things," so I'm hoping when Nessa is born there isn't any resentment at first. I've been skimming through other Maguire bibliography, and I've realized he loves 1) nuns, 2) sisters. (Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister has the main character being a carer for her intellectually disabled sister) so I expect something like that. I have a ton of Quadling Country era headcanons I never got to write so I'm excited to see if they're true or false. Excited to see more Frex, and Nessa's feelings towards Melena, and if Elphaba interacted with any Quadling, and to see how one turned to faith while the other against the government, and how baby Shell forced them into more time alone while older Shell was at least a bit weird to them- but we'll see::

the way I read this and already miss LBAF V (like I finished writing it only a month ago lmao) these kids have already grown so much WTF.
Also something I really like about LBAF is that it gives me a lot of space (literally - like room!) to explore so many different types of relationships and dynamics instead of just romantic ones - which has anyone been one of my main interests when writing a story. I love that I can explore sibling relationships - like the dynamic between Lance/Arthur is SOOO different, let's say, what exists between Antoine and his sister or Cami and Arjun and all of them exist in the same story and it's just sooooo fun to play around with that.
PS - I went to an all girls school too (a convent no less) and YEAH IT'S TOUGH IF YOU ARE GAY AHHH.

It's the Meta Writing Industrial Complex anon again and yeah I just can't get over the dumbassery of some of these stans now that they got literal years to come to terms with the fact that they fell into the most obvious POV trap with Dani in recent fantasy lit memory lmao. Just a few months ago I read a "meta" thread from a Dani, Jonerys, and Rh*egar stan (which LMAO pick just ONE struggle) saying that Jon and Dani were the gendered subversions of R/L and because R/L happened during the False Spring they were always meant to end in tragedy (not because R was a literal fucking dishonorable moron that abandoned his family), and D/J coming together would bring about the True Spring and the series will end with Jon3rys married on the IT with babies to continue the Targ line. This person then went on to say if you believe in Jonsa you have no reading comp or critical thinking skills and just LMAOOO. Full disclosure, I don't ship Jonsa and don't think it will be canon, but these Dani and Targ stans have pissed me off so much that I actually hope GRRM pulls through with that pet theory. These are also the same Targ and Dani stans that think Sansa will die because Lady died. Like I love how these Dani stans think they can fix their lips to speak on Sansa's plotline after getting literally everything imaginable wrong about their dear Cult Leader's story arc.

You donāt have to be a Jonsa to subscribe to the idea of Dark!Dany of course, it just was accepted by this corner when everyone else was in denial, so itās pretty associated with us for that reason (and also we had a vested interested in it for obvious reasons lol) but wouldnāt it be fun if Jonsa is canon in the books and everyone loses their minds again? was anyone else super disappointed that we couldnāt recruit squire at the end of act 2? (detailed spoilers under the cut)
if, like me, you love crime and also dogs, you can sneak into kethericās private rooms in moonrise towers and learn his backstory and motivation well before going into the gauntlet of shar.
my favorite bit is the interaction with his undead dog, squire. i donāt know how the animal handling route goes, but with speak with animals and a persuasion check sheāll allow you to roam (and steal) as you please, and tell you a bit about herself and her master. her nostalgia for the scent of seluneās magic and comments on the circumstances of her death seemed significant, and like it foreshadowed a reunion with isobelā the person whose selunite blessing she recognizes on you, and who she died protecting.
if you pet her, she remarks that youāre the only one other than ketheric who has ever been brave enough to try. if i could have physically shoved her into my pack and absconded with her right then and there i would have.
i was so sad when i went back to the towers after the boss fight and she was nowhere to be found š
i wish there as at least an option to tell her that isobel is aliveā¦ but despite this area being easily accessible pretty early on, it kind of seems like the player character isnāt supposed to know any of this yet.
(sidebar: idk if tav is canonically a bit dense or if thereās an intended sequence of explorable areas that i screwed up, but despite reading books/item descriptions in the tower that explicitly name isobel as his daughter, the party has no dialogue about it, the journal doesnāt update, you canāt ask isobel about it, and your party members still react with shock that he even had a daughter when you get to the mausoleum. like yeah, shadowheart, we figured that out like 2 hours ago. and then the dog told us. and the diaries. and the locket. and the prayer bookā¦)

This is fun, youāre giving in haha :D Funny story, remember how we thought āDark Fallen Angelā Tokoyamiās supermove was foreshadowing for Hawks? Well ShigaHawks might have transcendent young god/angel/messenger vibes, AfoHawks has similar, heās made a lot of godlike poses and is even wearing Greek robes, but itās also a bit of a demon x angel thing, but a judgement angel. I always imagine AFO wishes he could've found Hawks as a kid because he would've made the perfect little trophy, the perfect Nomu to stand by his side, he's smart and fast and if AFO gave him his mom's quirk? He'd be obsessed with a biblical accurate angel Hawks, and the fact that Ujiko calls AFO the buddha and Keigo means enlightenment, I'm so sorry Rani you are getting dragged into this pit whether you like it or not and I love you for indulging us šāšš„ŗ we can always count on you, like during our Compressoe days.

I actually adore the shoutouts to Buddhism that Keigo's name gives us. I have a friend really into zen buddhism/often goes to a monastery and had to grill them about enlightenment in the buddhist view and just try to see if anything they expressed about it would hit on Keigo's personality/narrative. I haven't really found much yet. It's a work in progress because Buddhism and all its branches and thought are very complicated.
And yes, there's a lot of greco-roman aesthetic when it comes to All For One. I also want to argue his robes are a shout to Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias of Watchmen, but as I was rereading today I kept thinking how much All For One fits that ideal Hellenistic Body. He's drawn a bit differently, I think, from other characters, like All Might, and there's something very "statue-like" about the way he's built.
So, with his mom's quirk - I have theories on what she does, and like I have a feeling much like a lot of the League unlocked parts of their quirk, we might have that with Keigo if he loses his mind, and maybe all the angel allusions we've been getting via Tomie go somewhere. At the same time, I think there's just so much there to pull from.
Sigh, I hate being in this pit. At least you guys are in there with me.
