My partner and I celebrated our 20th anniversary together last month. A few people asked me the ole “what’s you’re secret?” question and it’s made me think about this topic a bunch lately.

(First, a disclaimer. I don’t think monogamy is a superior way to approach life, it’s just worked well for us and people seem interested in what it’s like to experience it this long so this is only me speaking to my firsthand knowledge.)

You ready for mind blowing wisdom? The truth is that the largest element of longevity in a relationship is luck 😂 I mean, I could tell you healthy relationship tips, of course. We were so young when we stumbled into our relationship that we made a ton of mistakes and have learned and grown, thankfully. But the single largest factor to our “success*” is that nothing arose that split us up. Along the way a few of our friends sometimes broke up because there was abuse or betrayal present, sure. But the MUCH MORE common reasons? No one was “at fault.” Life just took them different directions. One partner wants kids, the other doesn’t. One partner wants to move cross country, the other doesn’t. They survive a shared trauma that’s too much to move past. Attraction wanes. Shared interests wane. Values change. Life goals change. Pressures of family interference get in the way. Feelings change. One partner discovers a new interest, religion, or career path that becomes a deal breaker.

Basically, people change and that’s all luck stuff, folks. Like those things didn’t happen to me largely just because they didn’t happen to me 🤷‍♀️ There’s lots of enthusiastic commitment over here, but no magic ingredients. My partner wanted to move cross country and I was down for a huge change mostly bc my previously beloved job had ended up burning me out bad. When we were 20 we had daydreamed together about our kids someday. Then at like 34 I finally admitted to myself I never wanna be pregnant like never ever and SURPRISE LUCK! My husband is even more childfree-life-oriented now than me. What if he kept his original interest in having biological children?

Who the hell could ever predict how to grow together in continuously compatible ways? Basically, you can’t. Sometimes when I think about how terrifying it is that life is extremely random and out of our control, I also decide to feel comforted that this shit IS all just random and out of our control.

Sorry, this took so long, it's a surprisingly hard question to answer because I needed to think about how I view Greek mythology vs how the rest of the world sees it and this accidentally turned into a rant 😅

also some of my opinions might be considered controversial but... I don't care! lol I guess the 5 Greek followers I have can unfollow me if they don't like this or whatever 😂

WARNING: me trashing on Americans

The Greek pantheon was like any other religion in ancient times, but it's not really treated like one anymore. The main religion of Greece now is Orthodox Christianity, and the largest religious minorities are Islam and Catholicism. My parents and I are atheists. I'm certain there's still people that practise it, but they would probably be seen as foolish by the general public.

We are taught part of our mythology in school at the age of 8 (unless they changed it idk 😂). It isn't taught like a religion, but more like fairytales.

The way it's taught is very lacking in my opinion. Instead of explaining for example how sexism influenced the creation of these myths and what a giant asshole Zeus was, we are just told Hera was "the jealous type" and that's why she's the antagonist in most of the stories she appears in.

Achilles and Patroclus were definitely gay, but no one ever talks about it. According to our school books, they were just really close friends! In fact, this specific topic is avoided so much that I first heard about it from foreigners on the internet! A lot of people deny this, even saying that "friendship was just different back then, it was deeper"!! I'm sorry sir, I don't think I'd ever ask to be buried with the ashes of my just a friend™ no matter how close we were! Technically speaking there's nothing explicit in the original text, but Aeschylus, Phaedrus, Plato and Alexander the Great all read it as a romantic relationship and the first 3 even had their own headcanons about it, so that's enough for me!

I'm guessing a lot of these depend on what type of teacher each person has, and it's been a long time since I was 8, so teachers might be more open about it now, but if you just read the 3rd year history (mythology) school book this is the content you'll get. I don't think withholding this information is done because it's being taught to kids, it's not a "they're 8, so they wouldn't understand sexism". That would be a silly argument considering our mythology is filled with incest, rape and gore, which our school books very openly mention throughout. They are just trying to avoid it.

From 9 and up, we are taught more actual history than mythology. We focus on real historical figures and events, so most of the less know myths get forgotten. At 13-15 we're taught the Odyssey and the Iliad (by Homer), and Helen (by Euripides). Yes, that is in fact the order that they teach us these 🙃!! Supposedly it goes from easier text to harder text for each year, but I personally think that's stupid because the story is completely backwards now, and we get it translated to modern Greek anyway, so what's the point of telling it backwards???? It's not convenient, it's confusing! Anyway, these are taught in a similar way to literature. We analyse the text and characters and all that.

Ages 16-18, I honestly have deleted most of these from my brain tbh 😂. OK, not exactly, the first and third year are more historical texts and philosophy. The second year we do another play, Antigone (by Sophocles). Actually wait, the first one was about a war and there was a ton of political intrigue in there, and it was super interesting. The third one was more about philosophy.

The plays aren't exactly the same as mythology, it's more like fanfiction about historical figures and gods! I mentioned them because..... I just like them lol

I kind of deviated a lot from what you actually asked me and answered more generally. For me and my parents specifically, religion isn't really something we participate in. My grandma is very religious though. She used to go to church every Sunday before covid. Now she watches it from the TV (there's a specific Christian chanel that broadcasts church service from different parts of the country). I personally hate how brainwashed some people are by Christianity (including my grandma). Thankfully, we haven't reached American levels of religious fanaticism.

Mythology isn't really something that's on our minds often. My grandma didn't go to school, so I doubt she knows much about it. My parents probably learnt some of it. Outside of the school environment, ancient Greek mythology isn't really a topic most people think about (maybe I think about it more than the average Greek person, because I'm an art student and a bit of a history nerd). But even then, I've seen more about Greek mythology from people who treat it like a fandom on the internet and make AUs with their characters and stuff like that. Now, I know I made jokes earlier about fanfiction and headcanons, so this is probably going to sound very hypocritical of me...

However, Homer's poems and other ancient Greek plays are not the same as myths. They're not treated the same. They are theatrical performances based on historical events/figures. I don't care much about people's modern interpretations of these, because they are fictional stories. Now, myths are also fictional, I even compared them to fairytales at the start. But they were still based on ancient people's religious beliefs. People practised it as a religion, they had rituals and traditions, some of which are still done today (though they have changed and evolved over time). The myths were more like the framework for what the Gods represented in their lives. Kind of like how most Christians don't believe the events in the Bible literally happened.

I'm fine with people taking inspiration from a myth and doing a modern retelling as long as they're respectful. I've seen some modern, more feminist retellings of Medusa that I personally really liked. I've even thought of making my own version of Arachne (=spider) but without the religious propaganda and classist undertones.

What I'm not ok with, is people wearing bedsheets to "dress up as Greek"! I'm sure you can probably relate to this because Americans do this with a ton of cultures. If you want to "dress up as Greek", do this:

And secondly, I'm not ok with people taking mythology and twisting it into something completely unrecognisable that doesn't even seem like it's from the culture it was based on. Basically, Americans shouldn't be allowed to make movies about other people's cultures!!! Ok, I'm exaggerating, but if you're going to do something based on mythology/religion of some other culture, you need to do proper research and be as respectful as possible.

Good example: Dreamworks-Prince of Egypt, 1998

Even as an atheist who was only taught religion in school, I can tell this is a very respectful adaptation. The team that made this met with religious experts to make sure they got it right.

Bad example: Disney-Hercules, 1997

This is the most American a Greek myth has ever been! It's more like Superman than Heracles. Don't do whatever the fuck Disney did here guys. I'm actually planning on tearing this film apart in a future review, so I'm not going to say anything else right now.

I'm not saying don't make changes. Greek mythology is very "fluid" in a way. Every myth has multiple versions, with minor or major differences between them. Changes are fine, even making a parody is fine. But I think the end result shouldn't just resemble its inspiration on a superficial level. It's not enough to have your characters wear a tunic and sandals and have them say Zeus instead of God every couple of sentences. The important part is why a particular myth exists. What is the original message? What does the story/character represent? That needs to be kept the same, otherwise the adaptation won't be an adaptation anymore. It will be a different story disguised as an adaptation. At that point, you should just make an original story.

if you spill coffee it's good luck

if your right palm is itchy, you'll get money, but if your left palm is itchy, you'll give money. The first one is usually interpreted as like: "you'll find coins on the street or win one of those scratch lottery tickets". The second one is like: "a sign that the electricity bill is coming, or you need to pay rent". (my dad believes this one)

if you're born on Saturday, it means you're lucky (I was born on a Tuesday 😔)

evil eye: a curse when someone "glares" at you/has bad intentions. If you have blue eyes you're immune to this, otherwise you can wear an evil eye charm. (this comes from the Middle East, I think. You might know about this, because there's a ton of different countries that believe it. I personally just like the charms)

when you visit a house for the first time, you need to enter with your right foot first for good luck. If you enter with your left, it's like wishing bad luck for the people who live there. This is also done for the first person to visit the house on New Year's Day.

if you enter a place from one door you can't leave from another door, you have to use the same one. (supposedly it ruins your matchmaking if you do that)

if you're talking with someone, and you say something simultaneously, you say "touch red" and then you need to touch something red before you continue speaking. (I remember doing this a lot as a kid)

if you talk about something bad happening hypothetically, you knock on wood or say the phrase "knock on wood", so it doesn't happen

if you get served the last drop of wine, you get bitches 😎!!

There are a lot of traditions that are really old that a lot of people still follow, even if they're not religious or the tradition comes from a different religion. I'll tell you one of my favourites that's relevant right now. Every first of March people in a lot of Balkan countries (Greece, Bulgaria, Albania, North Macedonia and others) wear a bracelet made from intertwined red and white threads. This is worn for the whole month of March, and it is supposed to protect you from getting burnt by the sun. At the end of the month, we take them off and leave them for swallow birds to use in their nests. Swallows are believed to bring spring.

My Thoughts On Digimon Survive

[Spoilers for the entire game plot, as well as the Moral Route ending!]

I didn't get anyone's megas, which kinda sucked, but it gives me something to aim for in my next playthrough!

I’m so amused by the fact that I got everyone to Ultimate (aka Perfect) level, except for Kaito, who was stuck at Champion the entire game. And even then, he joined the gang already having Champion unlocked! That was not me who unlocked it! And during the final battle, Sangloupmon died and the other kids' ultimates survived, so Kaito was also the only one who didn't get a cutscene pep talk.

I had higher affinity with Ryo (who, y'know, died the earliest) than I did with Kaito the entire game! Ryo's was 26; Kaito's was 17!

The fandom's been bullying Shuuji and meanwhile I'm over here bullying Kaito 😂

The (moral route) ending of the game was so funny to me. The gang basically starts a cult. Pretty sure they said more or less they’re starting a new religion, like??? Definetly not what I was expecting.

The game canon is 2020. The religion of Kenonogami turned out to be Digital World. Only post-game are they finally calling it The Digital World and the creatures Digital Monsters. And that’s just “maybe it’ll catch on…”, not even definitive. Just imagining a digimon crossover featuring Survive would be so funny. Tai’s gang from 1999 especially would be so confused that it took 21+ years for the survive universe to coin the words "digital world" and "digital monsters".

Also just. Imagine THIS is someone’s first intro to the Digimon series. They would be SO CONFUSED going into anything else digimon. It’d be hilarious.

I had gotten spoiled on the circumstances of Shuuji's death so that wasn't a shock to me. But I thought the idea was really interesting! A digimon harming and killing their partner was a concept I had wondered about, and long-accepted that it would never get covered in the actual digimon series for being too dark. And now, here we have an example! It was terrible, in a really intruiging way!

Similarly, the next chapter dealing with the kid's understandable fear of their digimon was incredibly interesting! Saki's discussions with Floramon in particular were my favorite. She was so blunt and honest and insensitive about fearing Floramon, and it was entirely understandable.

My only issue is that I wish that there was some nuance in why Lopmon lost control. It didn't feel right that no one brought up that Shuuji had been verbally and physically abusing Lopmon.

I wish we got just a line or two to explain the kid's reasoning. Maybe just the kids wondering at what level of anger or outrage a digimon could lose control. Who's to say an arguement or disagreement couldn't trigger it? They knew nothing about how digimon or digivolution worked at that point.

I thought it was really interesting how, the entire game all digimon are constant and real threats to all the human characters. That's something that's rarely, if ever, brought up in prior digimon media. And it was so fascinating to me - because its so true! Digimon are on such a different power level than humans, and so it means so much more when the human characters sacrifice themselves to protect their digimon partners.

I was not expecting Akiharu, "Haru", and Miyuki to have such large roles, or to love their characters as much as I did, but I was very pleasantly surprised!

I was really excited to see that Takuma and Akiharu ended up basically being jogress partners. We've never seen such an age gap before, and I think its really cute! I'd love to see Akiharu's mentor / paternal / grandfatherly role to the gang and especially Takuma explored more.

I'm a fan of very unconventional relationships in fiction, and so Haru and Miyuki's relationship ended up being one of my favorite things. It's so cute how he still treats her like his older sister despite being 50 years older now, and its very cute how he needs to catch her up on what's changed in the human world.

Between Haru and Miyuki and the main survive kids, there's so much potential for cute age gap and generational gap interactions! I'm really hoping to see some of that in fanworks! Let them be a really strange found family!!!

I'm glad to meet more people like me! In my case is different because in Spain, religion is not that big of a deal, but people are very open with their sexual life, they don't feel like is that big of a deal. Of course it's a generalization, there's many people and not all of them are the same, but at least in my town, by the age of 16, people have been in active sexual relationships for a while and it's just a natural thing.

I never felt the need to hook up with a random guy that I met at a bar or someone I just matched with on Tinder. BUT i read a lot of fanfiction, veRY smutty fanfiction. So I couldn't be asexual, right? Because i liked to read it, and i sometimes felt horny. So it couldn't be asexuality.

Until i read what it truly means to be asexual, I didn't understand it completely. That's how i found my identity! And i wanted one of my characters to be demisexual, too. It meant a lot for me.

…on a sillier note,i really think it’s addictive,literally couldn’t stop reading & i may have got so much into reading that i forgot to have breakfast & lunch💀(no worries,they pulled me out of my induced hyper-attention & slapped me back into reality by the hour of dinner😂)

now,focusing more onto things of the story that stuck out to me b4 i lose my scattered brain cells that i managed to collect a bit:

-like another anon mentioned b4, it’s the 1st time i see it & i can only appreciate it. i’m talking abt how u have amalgamated the element of both the supernatural & paganism into the story,w/out being smth that clashed w/ the flow or the usual elements of the hybrid trope. it’s also a very important example of representation & diversity(like anon pointed out w/ the example abt christianity being almost the sole belief often represented,w/out bashing the religion itself ofc). as some1 who isn’t pagan themselves,respectfully, i found it both refreshing & also fascinating,& the way this element of religiosity(/ agnosticism in the case of jk) has been incorporated into the story def just added to the reading experience & made things way more interesting!

-i absolutely love how much detail & thought went into creating well crafted & attained to relationships outside the sphere of the characters who’ll be involved romantically w/ the protagonist. u gave so much importance also to other characters u created to portray diff relationships of family,friendship or simple encounters(gerry/the hairdresser etc) w/ the protagonist, building a wrld outside just the circle of future romance interest,which gives the protagonist so much more characterisation & realism. it made the story so incredibly immersive & realistic,regardless of the supernatural or not😆

-another thing that struck me,is the depiction of the hybrids as a marginalised group & the protagonist clashing w/ the difference in their privileges & realities. i remember she seemed almost unaware at certain points of the true extent of the cruelty & discrimination hybrids usually face,which makes sense considering she canonically has never been close to hybrids or their reality as much throughout her live(beside the lil fox frnd in her childhood) so it makes 4 a great starting point into her journey of learning,change,unlearning & coming to terms w/ the fact that if the boys have some moments of distrust,venting etc it isn’t necessarily bc of her but bc of what they went through & what they know & have lived on their skin & it is an experience that has left a trace in their brain 4ever & has impacted them & it may slip & show in their reactions or behavior w/ y/n(namjoon’s cold-hot treatment, jk’s animosity,distrust & need 4 distance, seokjin’s anxiety at the cookout,hobi’s alertness when she woke him up). we still don’t know the details,but it’s obvious that their past has traumatized them & shaped some parts of them & in your exquisite writing,that part of them isn’t smth that just unrealistically & magically disappears simply bc now they are in a healthier,safer,happier environment w/ the mc. mc’s efforts are mitigating the trauma responses & slowly setting the bridge toward the journey to start healing from their past(way later into the story,i assume) but she didn’t just “cure” everything already just w/ kindness & care,it’s a journey that just begun that we are still seeing unfold & shift according to the direction of the story & also to every individual hybrid,which makes it more realistic & captivating to read

smth i’m super excited 4(beside ch 7 & tae’s situation that u left us in w/ a cliffhanger) is how u’r gonna develop the relationships between the hybrids & mc once they all start to develop feelings,accept them & start acting according to their feelings. i’m not only curious abt when & how it’s gonna happen 4 each character individually but also how this will change & shift the dynamic the hybrids are going to have w/ e/o at that point.

u also mentioned they all gonna be doms,so since you mentioned it i’m so intrigued abt what type of dom you’r going to make each character be & how they’ll start interacting w/ mc & e/o after their dynamics change according to their feelings

I'm also very glad that you like the pagan and supernatural aspects of the plot and characters! It is a big part of MC, her mother, and for now-- Jeongguk and Namjoon's characters. Overall, the plot will continue to build upon the more occult and supernatural/paranormal themes, and more of the hybrids will become involved in various ways, so I'm stoked that readers are enjoying those aspects of the plot! It has been important to me to find the right balance between the religious/supernatural themes and the hybrid!AU, and to be honest, with every chapter I write it is still a balancing act. I am hoping to do these themes justice, and represent some pagan practices and holidays through Trouvaille in the best way I can based off of my own practices. I'm thrilled that you're enjoying the magic so far!

As for some of the side characters you've mentioned (!!!) I'm also super excited you've brought them up. I agree with you, it is important for MC to have relationships outside of the ones she has with the hybrids. She had a fully fleshed out life prior to meeting them at Gerry's shelter, so making sure that MC had plenty of friends, co-workers, family, and interactions with people such as Gerry or the hairdresser you mentioned was a priority to me. Some of my favorite interactions in Trouvaille so far happen between MC and her childhood best friend, Ben. Her friends will play more important roles down the line as the story progresses, specifically the twin sisters she is close to, Laura and Alice. I'm happy that these other characters have made MC seem all the more realistic, and that you've mentioned the side characters as well-- I had a lot of fun creating them! 🥰

SO you bring up an excellent point surrounding the hybrids themselves, and the relationship MC has with the species of hybrids in general. Nobody is perfect, least of all MC, and that's exactly how I wanted to write her. She can be naive, a little sheltered, overly trusting, and even somewhat oblivious at times. That said, I agree with you; she is definitely unaware of just how much hybrids, and her hybrids in particular, have suffered in the past. She knows that they've all suffered through traumatic experiences, but she doesn't know the details. MC is also blissfully unaware of just how much hybrids in her society are treated and even how they behave-- not because of willful ignorance, but simply because she never considered that she'd have a hybrid in her life, let alone seven. Sure, she's aware of the headlines surrounding hybrid trafficking, the wealthy adopting hybrids for sport hunting, but there is lots about the hybrid world she has yet to learn about. You're right, a major part of Trouvaille will be MC learning about hybrids as a species and truly understanding what it is like for them to move through the society Trouvaille takes place in.

I like that you've brought up specifically some of the boy's behaviors so far. Namjoon's hot and cold behavior is a big one, as well as Jeongguk's prickly, distrustful personality. Seokjin, notably, has a huge backstory that I've yet to dive into, but he has a lot of unresolved trauma/PTSD as well that surfaces as anxiety, jittery behavior, and phobias. As for Hoseok, there is no telling what he had gone through at shelters to react so defensively when woken up, as he had been moved around shelter to shelter- these are all things I'm super excited you have picked up on and remembered. Each hybrid has things to work on and through, but as you mentioned, these issues will not be solved simply because MC adopted them. Sure, a safe place to live and her kindness is a start, but there will be a long process of healing for each of the hybrids. Healing is never linear and the same goes for the hybrids in this story; it will get messy and angsty, but over time they will make great progress, I'm sure. One great trait MC has is patience, so she'll definitely make space for each hybrid to heal and open up to her in their own time. I'm excited to share all of these backstories with you all, as well!!

As for the romance! We are definitely a ways away from it, but hopefully readers can sense the slooooowww build to it with certain hybrids already. There is a lot to tackle before romance becomes involved (most of the reasons as to why in the previous two paragraphs) but the wait will totally be worth it! I have ideas for each hybrid and how they will realize their feelings (all different and unique to each boy), when their confessions will happen; the whole timeline for that is planned out, including the order of when each hybrid gets with the MC. I'm still working on how the hybrids will react to one another once romance is involved, its one of the things that has been more difficult to flesh out in my outlines over the past year. Not to worry- as there is much time to go before that happens LOL!

Sooo because romance is a bit far away, so is the smut. I have mentioned that I've written my Trouvaille hybrids as doms. I think, when answering this question in the past, I might have sparked a little trepidation in some readers. Because these are my characters I've been working on for over a year, this decision has made the most sense to me for several reasons that I've answered in previous asks. I also mentioned that there would be a great variety as far as how they'd all act in the bedroom, as unique as the characters themselves are, how their feelings during confessions would be, so too will they all be unique when the time comes for smut. Now, when I say they'll all be dominant, I do not mean they'll be 50 Shades of Grey type dominants. This isn't a BDSM fic. Sure, some of them will be rougher than others, but there are also the sweeter, more vanilla doms as well. Like I said, this is off in the future, so when the time comes, I'll appropriately label chapters with smut contained within them. This all boils down to how I've written these characters, including MC, as well as staying within my wheelhouse when it comes to writing sex scenes.

Most popular is Like the Palm of Your Hand (Steve/Eddie + Steve/Billy)! I’ve not been shy with this one obviously, and it’s the first longfic I’ve written in years, so it’s important to me since it got me going again. Eddie rekindles Steve’s suppressed interest in men, so he starts calling gay phone sex hotlines to fill in what he can’t have and has an affair with Billy in between. It’s sort of a character study of Steve and how he navigates his emotions between two people amongst other things. No heavy angst, but lots of feelings.

As for the less popular… I’m gonna clump all of my Billy/Jason stuff together here because it all goes in the same vein more or less lol:

Forgive Me, Father…: They meet at the old diner, and Billy guides Jason to open up a little bit.

Heretic’s Creed: Birds-eye view of how their relationship helps and scares Jason equally in regards to his religion.

[dark, no romance/sex] The Devil Lives in Hawkins: Eddie’s been accused of Chrissy’s murder and gone into hiding, and Billy holds Jason captive + tortures him because he knows that Jason knows where Eddie is. Essentially how I imagine Billy if he were to fly off the handle; inspired by Reservoir Dogs.

Basically a lot of dissolving of religious shame and trauma associated with being gay, Billy relieving fears that Jason has about hell and sin. I’m planning a longer fic to go deeper into it because I find the dynamic super interesting and want to put more of it out there because there’s not enough 😂

This is going to be somewhat out of character for this blog but I find this somewhat funny, as someone who has finally gotten into deity work in witchcraft. The perception of what some people think (including myself at first) a god or goddess will be like vs how they actually are is quite interesting.

When I first started seeing signs from Loki I was almost like “oh no” and images of chaos and mischief were flying through my head. I was unsure about connecting with him. I really didn’t know that much about him other than the basics. I’d always been much more focused on the hellenic pantheon. Apollo had been my primary patron for a while at this point, and I’d had some connection with Hades and a female deity that I still don’t know (😂😅😬).

However, contrary to what I believed and assumed, Loki has been one of the biggest advocates for self care and self love that I have worked with, period. Of course he enjoys a bit of goofing off and being fun, but he has been incredible in helping me learn that I’m worth more than I give myself credit for, which is something I desperately needed to hear as someone with extreme childhood trauma. Our very first divination session with him was the clearest message I have ever received from a deity, which had two parts to it. The first part was quite personal so I will not share that, but the second part was literally this: “I am here. Tread lightly if you decide to take your craft seriously. Handle chaos with grace.”

Ever since that session I have taken it much more seriously, and I am grateful for the connection I have with Loki. He is always understanding if I need a break due to fatigue or trauma therapy, and almost every time I am needing to speak to him, he has something to say that resonates.

I think the hardest part is that one of the things that shows me I know he’s around is an abundance of spiders and flies, one of which I am terrified of and the other of which annoys the hell out of me😂 I once asked if he could keep the spiders out of the house, as spiders out of the house I’m fine with. Cue there being spider webs alllllll over my front bushes and back pergola that had not been there even the day before asking him that. Thanks Loki, I really appreciate it😂🥰 (/not joking…okay maybe a little bit.) Another difficult part of working with Loki is that he is known for inciting change, and as someone who is terrified of change and non-conformity, it was hard at first! However every time things have happened to incite big changes, it has always been for the better, and I have found that I have started handling hard things better. More…gracefully👀

I know a lot of people who follow me here are systems and a lot of you have considered witchcraft. Ofc do research and see if this would work for you, but since finally taking it seriously I’ve found a sense of peace and comfort. Religion is not something I have ever enjoyed or felt connected to due to the nature of our trauma but this feels distinctly different than the relationship I had with the Christian god, and I feel incredibly blessed to have this connection.

one thing i've noticed about myself reading your posts is that i have very high standards (i don't think that's a good thing 😭) damn. i've started to notice that the only fanfics i've been able to finish are the ones where jk stays true to his feelings for oc. let me explain, when our pitbull hybrid, jk, received an offer to have a rutting partner, he said no. and i know the whole context, i know that if he accepted it wouldn't be a betrayal with oc because they had nothing and for a hybrid having a rutting partner doesn't mean romance! i know that perfectly well, but if he accepted, knowing that he could go through it alone (even if it was and it was heavy) even so, if he accepted, he wouldn't be being true to his feelings, he wanted oc, he imagined her all the time, he wanted her long before he realized it and long before she knew and they got involved, i really can't express how deep and adorable i find this character. he could very well have stayed just to relieve himself and it wouldn't have meant anything, right? but i really think he would have felt bad about himself afterwards, that he would have felt bad for going against his feelings, and if at some point, before getting involved with oc, he thought she liked him, i think he would have felt bad too for maybe hurting her "feelings". like i said, i understand the whole context, i know the theme was a hybrid fanfic, and i know that in real life many men don't have that sensitivity towards themselves. but it was such a beautiful thing to see in your work about the indigo sea and something i also noticed in your work about the lonely blue egg, oook that penguin was a bit of a jerk to my little oc bird, even though he was dazzled by a purebred penguin that he always wanted, many people may have different opinions, but I believe that he felt empathy, and was faithful to the principle that you don't hurt or lie to a woman you care about, even if everything there was misunderstood. What I see lacking a lot is respecting a person as a human being and having the principles of not lying, not hurting, genuinely caring, having empathy… all these things. Anyway, I'm going to end here because I think it was all very confusing, and it sounded a bit misandric but I swear it's not, it's just that speaking in a more generalized way is easier 💖

This possessiveness of all a partner's physical/romantic exerience is a really interesting concept --and also one that can cause a lot of damage in real life. It's obviously something that gets romanticized a lot in writing --even in my own writing, as you point out! There's just something so good about a man who loves his one woman more than anything else in the world! And vice versa, of course! But I have some thoughts!

I think this romantic theme/trope has some roots in harmful gender stereotypes that state a woman's love is pure and wholesome and her whole life and a man's is fickle and insincere and a means to an end. So we fictionalize men who "love" like women. This is unfair to men (who are not incapable of body-consuming love as a rule) and women (who can and do prioritize other things in their lives above romantic attachment.)

I think some possessiveness of partner has roots in competition for resources that dates aaaaall the way back to our primate ancestors. I have a hypothesis that for many folks as they get older and have security in romantic relationships, this eases up. I can remember feeling sick at the idea of my crush havign any romantic entanglement with someone else. I also grew up in a very restrictive purity culture religion.

Which sort of ties to point one, that I think there's something comforting in seeing a man live in the "don't be a slut" rules that society really presses for women. The opposite --accepting that multiple past or even future romantic & sexual relationships have absolutely no bearing on the depth or sincerity of a current relationship-- is scarier to those of us who were raised on those rules, I think, because there's morality involved. Having multiple relationships (obviously not secretly at the same time lol!) is morally neutral but many cultures, religion, and patriarchy apply moral rules to it.

I won't keep going LOL. And this is definitely not to say we can't or shouldn't read or write this kind of stuff. Read your comfort stories! Bask in tales of what you find romantic and comforting! Whether that's something like this of dead dove do not eat stories, stories can be anything. Ban no books.

I just also know I like to break analyze and break through things like this with my writing 😎 and now you've got my really thoughtful about how my own upbringing and my adult process of working away from that "moralizing" still crops up in my stories, or how that comes across even if I think I'm playing with different concepts. I think this happens a lot in fandom! You get soulmate fics or fuckboy fics and not as many right in the middle of "hey most people are going to have multiple relationships in their life." SO prepare for that even though you said you don't liek that LOL SORRY 😘

Mother by Meghan Trainor was my first thought 😂😂😂 I’ll have a better answer in the morning but I think it’s something jarringly pop-y and sorta sexy? I think Guys My Age by Hey Violet works well for them, too.

I mean. Well. 😈😈😈. But I genuinely think that Cersei refuses to kiss Marge and Marge repeatedly tries to initiate to watch her recoil. I also think that Marge generally likes to kiss Cersei in different places—nape of the neck?—to see what tenderness does?

There’s a scenario in my mind in which their roles reverse and Cersei kisses Margaery, but it’s just that one time.

They both have a bunch of weirdly sentimental frat bro stuff? I also think that Stewy has an artistic rendering of a gazelle and he doesn’t know why he gets horny/sad when he looks at it.

10. What is something they can never agree on? How do they meet in the middle?

I mean, I know you’re not finished with the books but I think, in the end, they actually are sort of compatible on a lot of surprising things. Their internal dynamic is so interesting to me. Anyway.

I think the thing they can’t agree on can all be boiled down to religion. Like, I think Irene will never ever forgive the gods for their interference in Gen’s amputation, for the role they put her in, the danger they put him in all the time, their positions, and she will never forgive the gods for the promise of letting Eugenides fall. She is such a fearless character but there’s a moment in the final book that I think really scares her on an existential level.

And I think as much as Gen struggles with the gods, he loves and respects them. They are a part of him. And that’s the conflict.

29. Who drives and who picks out the music?

I like a Modern AU where Eugenides is afraid of cars/driving the way that he’s canonically afraid of horses. This does not stop him from being a backseat driver. But. In this AU, he retains the sexy boat captaining btw. Yeah, he picks out the music. Of course, he picks out the music. Irene hasn’t listened to radio, except for the news, for years.

There were so many great moments watching you read these books and my actual favorite was you creating this ship. You are the founder and the captain.

I think this is like…Gen’s Daddy Issues moment. Like, I think this idea that’s always in the books about Gen loving the people that hurt him….the minute the magus attacks him in the first book…that’s the moment for Gen? And I think the magus is complicated but fundamentally good but it is definitely Gen acting out his daddy issues onto him…he wants to be a brat, to be put in place, to rebel.
