I'll admit I'm struggling with this story, lol. I'm trying to figure out your plan, and not-so-secretly love that I can't. One thing I have noticed, and it might just be my sharp JK bias, but other than when Sasha dumped him, it almost feels like he's always the "bad guy", the one doing stupid shit that causes problems for them. So much so that when I read these other asks, most readers are usually on Sashs's "side" of whatever the current conflict is. I guess what I'm saying is that I'm waiting for something to make me understand why she loves him and stays with him. Sometimes the relationship feels uneven. Yet I know it's not and that she most definitely has her issues. But, he has to have issues too, right? The way he grew up in the spotlight, privileged, prodigious, but also imprisoned in a lot of ways. I don't know what I'm saying here exactly, but I just wonder if his acting out/rebelliousness needs some addressing? If maybe he wanted to be caught? I'm sorry for rambling. I'm avoiding going back to work. Can't wait for what you have planned, as always.

😎 It's great fun watching the tide go back and forth and often eddy into division about who's giving more or causing more problems or pulling more of their weight. There are definitely plenty of "why is she with him" comments but also just about as many "she's holding out on him" comments, etc etc. You could say that Sasha has some deeper attachment issues that impact the relationship while JK is more likely to make short-sighted mistakes, but there are also examples of the opposite for both of them. Truly a mess, haha!

I think I've mentioned before, I think Flux was a lot of rapid growth for Sasha due to her internal conflicts imploding. My Matryoshka leans more into Jungkook's struggles, which surfaced in the last book when he basically melted down over their breakup but were sort of tamped down as he focused on Sasha. Many readers had commented about feeling like Jungkook didn't actually realize or address just how much he struggled in Flux --and here we are in My Matryoshka seeing more things bubble, some of which are his own doing and some of which are a result of his career/lifestyle. He's been pushing boundaries more and more over time as he tries to develop a sense of control and his own identity. It makes sense Sasha is a boundary he'll push against too --and arguably that can be a positive thing, for him to feel confident and secure enough to test that relationship, but the context of boundary pushing is not necessarily... comfortable, let's say.

I think what I'm trying to say is, sometimes "bad" (rebellious, acting out, however you want to phrase it) behavior has a really important ,valuable developmental reason. Look at toddlers and teenagers and the hell they can put their loved ones through 😂 Originally Sasha was part of his boundary pushing, then she became a boundary to push against, and so on.

As for the question "why does she love him/be with him" or the reverse comes up a lot with readers and it's very interesting to me. Why is anyone with the person they're with? Some blend of ilogical emotion/attachment, careful evaluation, choice, and stubbornness despite the difficulties. I suppose there are relationships where things are only ever easy, but for many in long term relationships there are going to be rough patches and it comes down to the individuals in the relationship and how they decide for themselves what's worth staying for or when it's time to leave. From my own personal experience, life can get hard in ways it's impossible to predict, and the impact that past trauma can have on a relationship can be really, really hard to work through on top of that. Hard doesn't necessarily mean not worth it!

It makes sense that we spend a great deal of time evaluating the relationships we see in stories to decide our own boundaries and needs. In this case, I do have a master plan of what I'm trying to convey with their relationship, but it's a long term message. Sometimes I'm so impatient and wish I could just skip ahead or give the answers, but the journey is part of it 😎 So we will all have to be patient and live it.

Trust me, it's harder for me to be patient hahah

Can I ask... I apologize in advance if this a sensitive topic, I tried searching on the internet, but English isn't my first language and I can't seem to find the right phrase or word for it so my search doesn't lead to an answer. In what situation does the "save the mother or the child" comes? I mean like... what happens to make those options arise? Because I can't grasp the... condition for that problem...? Like, why can't they save both or how does the other one survive and the other doesn't? Say you save the mother... do you kill the baby in her stomach? Or you save the child... do you just cut the mother open? Like let her bleed out??

I tried picturing the 'House of the Dragon' scene where the queen gives birth before C-section was invented. They did cut her open and let her bleed to death. But technically, how could she survive that in the case the doctors decided to save her instead of the baby? (injecting a poison of some sort to the baby perhaps? but that'll probably kill the mother too). And in todays era, C-section already exist with safe procedure, so I'm curious what would cause such situation to happen.

(The thoughts did come from Meadow's scene, I'm sorry. I'm in my 20s, but I lack the education ㅠㅠ)

Don't worry about it at all! I won't be able to give a full comprehensive view but I can help a little with what I know. I will say that in Meadow, Bronwen was absolutely jumping to worse case scenario and imaginging the worst. I don't think she was even understanding a specific reason for that decision, just panicking and trying to tell Jungkook not to make a medical decision for her that would potentially harm their child.

It boils down to who is prioritized in a dangerous medical situation. Thanks to modern medicine, this isn't something that's as big an issue as way back when, when babies could be stuck and you'd have to decide whether you get the baby out at cost to the mother (which I think is the situation you're decribing though I haven't watched that show.)

I think more contemporary examples of having to make decisions like this would be, the mother requires life-saving medication/treatment/surgery that poses a risk of loss of the baby so the decision must be made whether to move forward with that or not; the recommendation likely depends on whether the baby could be safely delivered prematurely if needed, and how urgent/emergency the medical need is, or whether it's a truly tragic situation involving late term abortion. I have a friend who required multiple life-saving surgeries during her pregnancy post 20 weeks. Baby was fine, but there was a risk of loss each time. I've heard of women who discovered cancer while pregnant and some chose to abort and undergo chemo, while others chose to delay chemo and cancer treatment even if it put them past the point of treatment.

I think those are the scenarios in which someone could make a child-first decision because you're right that often, mother and child are both undergoing an emergency together and the goal is always to save both as first priority.

But I read and just checked again, there's a drabble for Yoongi x Capybara OC, so who's Soon-hee? I'll probably slap my face once I read more, but I hope I'm not mistaken 😅 I've forgotten most of the plot which is why I'm re-reading.

Soon-hee was Yoongi's girlfriend/mate throughout the book, yes! After the events of the story though they wound up breaking up --I can't remember where I explicitly said that, if it was just in author's notes or around the drabble, it definitely wasn't part of the Meadow main story.

The gfs in Meadow are Ji-yoon, Soon-hee, and Hyo, plus later Chailai and Yeong-ja additions 😉 Which it sounds like I remembered but only because your comment made me reread some of Meadow on my plane ride home. Damn the story was ambitious and filthy 🤣🤣

All I wanted to suggest is that if you were ever interested in doing another hybrid-like story (like SOI or penguin koo, or meadow) I would be so supportive. I love a good creative take on a hybrid story - and I feel like so many others I read follow a cookie cutter format and are, quite frankly, kind of boring. But not you. You bring such a refreshing take on everything, especially hybrids, because you always find a way to make their hybrid-ness not their whole personality, but a clever and interesting aspect. Anyway, carry on doing WHATEVER YOU WANT and I’ll be just as happy too. - a grateful reader and fan forever.

I very much hope to write more hybrid stories in the future --I've got several ideas incubating, and have already made a little behind the scenes progress on the next Birdtan book (starring Yoongi). I really enjoy the hybrid setting and figuring out how to use these animal characterstics or social systems as an alternate way to view the characters and our own world/experiences. I draw on race and disabilities studies a bit too when I'm crafting those worlds, but the characters are always at the heart of it and the hybridness, as you stated, is just one part of the set-up. I'm glad you enjoy them and that you enjoyed Amended too!

I write insanely long chapters and stories 🤣🤣 But I'm truly touched that so many of you enjoy it anyway. I think it's probably more self consciousness, me thinking to myself "this is going to lose readers because you're taking too long and they aren't going to put up with all these WORDS." I love long books, as long as they're good! So I'm glad y'all think they're good and worth it haha, thank you for the encouragement!

Damn, I’m so slow and feel like a late bloomer over here. I just finished reading Flux yesterday! It was the pinnacle of all the fics and books I’ve ever read. I liked the character introspection so much, even in the 3rd person POV, and the way it streamed out of their consciousness. And, of course, your freaking writing! It was beautiful as well as melancholic for me, though 😂🥹 I couldn’t trust your story and myself to go through fluff in one chapter and then be hit with angst in another. I had to prepare my mentality every single minute.

The One Day series’ scores I listened to all while reading are also super bittersweet and are now my official soundtracks for your JK x Sasha stories. They really fit all the introspective parts, changes, and ups and downs, which are kind of the whole story, lol. It really intensified the reading experience and got me crying over and over again. I wonder if you ever put on music when you write? For me, I can’t do anything or even live without it.

Anyway, a huge thank you to you and your stories once again, Foxy. Now I’m gonna catch up with other anons on the next book and delve into it. My ton of work stuff can wait until i finish the latest chapter 😂

There's such a strong bond that happens with music. I can often recall where I was/what was going on in my life when I listened to specfic songs or albums a lot.

As an example, I can't listen to the song "Phases" by ALMA and French Montana without getting an tummyache because I listened to that song in particular a lot while I was writing the hardest parts of Flux. A ton of other stuff too, but this song just came to mind because it came up on my playlist last night and I was instantly back there haha.

Ok this is very true yes yes.

One aspect of my job for years (I work in video games since that may not be known by everyone here) is First Time User Experiences/Tutorials, and I cannot tell you how many times I have had to explain to designers "you need to teach all of these concepts so that I can get through without reading a single word because at least half of the players are not going to read a single thing on the screen." And it's proven time and time again to be true... We rush, we multitask, we just don't register all the stuff going on in front of our faces.

That MM chap... Woooooo.... I have so many thoughts, I think I'll have to reread. There is so much to pick apart here. Every time I reconsider the events, I come up with new ways to interpret the reactions and the "blame". I don't know that I really think any blame should be placed, but I can't help trying to process it anyway.

Just so I can brace myself.... Can you give a vague hint as to whether this particular incident will get worse before it gets better? Or, since we're only in chapter 10, is this just the first in a sequence of events that will put JK & Sasha (and us) through the ringer?

We're only human, we want clean answers that tell us what made it go wrong, how to avoid it, etc etc. Learning to let go of that (work in progress....lmfao) was one of the most valuable things my own marriage counselors had for us and has seen me through a lot of family grief and life frustration too.

I'll put some vague response beneath the cut for anyone who wants to see:

Maybe a little worse depending whose point of view you're sitting in but this book isn't a rehash of Flux in that way, it will hopefully feel different than the lengthy despair of Flux. There are definitely turbulent waters throughout the book but it's a little more episodic with steps of struggle and growth, compared to Flux's full book gut punch.

The pictures really did come back to bite Jungkook😰 I wish he would’ve believed Sasha when she said Naoko took pictures of her, and wow they really invaded her privacy and disrespected her😭 I hope they get sued and their shop closes down for being so unprofessional, like they really made it personal 😰

Sasha didn’t want to go to that shop, but went because she wanted to be supportive and be there for him and it all just backfired 😭 I hope they will be okay after this & I feel like Jungkook will probably learn a lot from this too

ALSO you did such a wonderful job showing how Sasha is pretty much on her own with the media since the company will only protect their artists

If the company releases those pictures of Jungkook and Naoko, it will forsure hurt Sasha, I feel so bad for both of them, but especially her at this moment because she was trying to be understanding for him and yeah he didn’t mean for things to escalate, but if he would’ve just listened to her and respected how she felt none of this would’ve happened 😭

I think you raise a really powerful point, which is that this would probably feel at least a little different for Sasha if Jungkook had believed her and it still went awry. Instead it's a double injustice and it's easier for her to forget that JK is also a victim in this situation...

Another good point you make, Sasha had good intentions and took a risk in supporting him here and it backfired. It would be very easy for her to come away from this thinking "well I'm never trusting anyone or exteding myself that way ever again!"

Damn chapter 10... damn. All these chapters felt like a ticking time bomb anyways and this chapter was the explosion, or was it? Can it get worse? I gotta say now that everything is "out" or that shit happened, pointing fingers at who's fault it is wrong. Sure JK was an idiot for going to the shop anyways but he trusted them. But if you say it like that, you could also say he would've never slept with naoko if sasha wouldn't have dumped him 🤷🏻‍♀️ so in conclusion, there is not one person at fault.

I felt bad for both of them. JKs "please don't breakup" text made me feel so bad for him too. One's privat life AND career is in danger, and the other one's reputation and career is in danger. And the situation is literally so damn complicated. It's like walking to a dead end with whatever plan they go with. And I want to add that I was not surprised at the "lawyers buy photos before they get released". The thought is just pretty fucked up, that you were in fact getting stalked.

I don't know for what outcome I hope for. I feel like their relationship is kinda growing apart. This is the feeling I'm getting from this book. Because it's always good between them until it isn't and then it's weird and I feel like both have no idea how to deal with it. I hope and wish for them to work this out too. I love this couple sm! I hope they can built ultimate trust and love to eachother and work together more in the future.

I like to think of the books as... the first two were sort of them against themselves, and this book is presenting the opportunity for them to be united against external forces. Will they rise to that or fall apart?

I'm fascinated watching everyone try to decide who is to "blame". This happens a lot throughout this story and I'm thrilled to write scenarios that people are divided on because ultimately that's my goal. Sometimes it's one of them unequivocably making a mistake, other times it's a really complicated situation or very nuanced or there is no clear one at "fault", or that doesn't even matter/isn't helpful for moving the situation forward.

This one in particular reminds me a bit of Sasha's delibartiong during Chlamydiapocalypse, when Dr. Kim guided her on how to navigate "fault" or "blame" in a situation. Despite feeling like she's the more flexible of them, I think Sasha very much wants black and white answers on guilt and innocence, and Jungkook is actually more open to ambiguous acceptance (...unless he feels falsely accused LOL.)

Anyway thanks as always for sharing your thoughts!! Discussion was so heated on the last chapter, I'm prety far along with the next one and had secretly hoped to get it done before my trip but alas, it'll have to come in the next couple of weeks.

While I missed the eclipse that happened (damnit), I spent the day in Yoyogi Park in Tokyo beneath sakura snow which my brother (who I was visiting) told me is impossible to actually time correctly to get to see. I managed tos chedule our trip to Japan to coincide with my birthday and it was such a fantastic trip. Great way to celebrate another year around the sun. 💝
