bearing in mind that i haven't watched skamit in 2+ years, i do remember that despite being surface-level a joker/shallow/etc elia turned out to be in a sort of parent 1 parent 2 situation with giovanni regarding martino and luchino + sometime in s2 or afterwards that elia either likes cooking or knows how to do it which struck me as odd bc why would a teenage boy unless (big generalisation) they had to be very independent?? fast forward to s4e2, after a couple of years of being aggressively heterosexual™ yet somehow perpetually single, this teenage boy goes from half-dead piudellachedeqqua sofa zombie to 'ya know sana i love you you're beautiful and i love and i would convert for you would you marry me' like 0 to 100 babyboy?? hello??? not this fast? fast forward end of the season, he's still under a camion for sana, he's negotiating rent with filippo because he not only 'can't stand' being with his father anymore, even though its quite normal for italian uni students to live with their families, and now, in the s5 trailer, he's kinda looking into a sense of community and family from the outside, zeroing on new-female-character-who-does-look-like-him-a-bit in what it's an incredible coincidence, or: elia santini's got some serious daddy issues with a possibly absent and/or abusive father figure that caused him to grow up quite quickly and instead of giving him commitment problems it gave him a u-turn i-shall-marry-sana-and-i-love-mortgages-and-shared-bank-accounts complex where he runs head first into a brick wall of commitment, with the female character not being a love interest but a sister, or half sister, he needs to reconnect with; his path of discovery and acceptance is about being a young man, without a father figure, capable of standing on his own feet, forgiving, learning who he is outside of the broken home he came from. he's also bi. or the girl is actually the love interest and ludovico bessegato wanted to give us a piccoli problemi di cuore final 12 episodes complex.

I may have some feelings and possibly some actual thoughts about Hedwig and the Angry Inch's appearance in The Eighth Sense. Under a readmore because of spoilers - for both.

So I'm old enough to have seen HatAI in a cinema in 2002, and it's a very important film to me. It's an iconic queer film classic by now (and an iconic queer musical classic), but it's also a cult film and certainly not something I expect everyone to know about.

My first reaction to the Hedwig person scenes in T8S was something like "oh my fucking GOD they're doing HEDWIG I love Inu and Werner so fucking much, but oh, that's an odd thing to do, making Ji Hyun and Ae Ri be that dismissive to Hedwig person?".

Nothing in a show is accidental or random, certainly not full scenes such as these, and I think there are a couple of ways referring to HatAI in T8S* could go.

Keep in mind that I have no idea if it can be expected that a Korean audience knows HatAI, but then again, it's obvious that Inu Baek and Werner du Plessis intended T8S for an international audience as well as a domestic one. HatAI is still not a reference I'd expect the international target audience of a Korean romance between two students to get.

Your other half is within yourself

The central theme in HatAI is Hedwig's search for their** other half. That is all ye olde Plato's soulmate theory about Zeus splitting each human into two. However, Hedwig's conclusion is that your other half is within yourself (on a number of levels, and sometimes, as with Hedwig's fluctuating gender expression, it's a bit on the nose. It's still a wonderful film). The film ends with Hedwig/Hansel walking away, alone, naked, after a scene that is both unsettling and forgiving.

The Hedwig person in T8S gets a walking away alone scene too, although fully dressed, after an also rather unsettling but not forgiving scene where Ji Hyun and Ae Ri are dismissive and a bit rude - perhaps partly because since almost dying, Ji Hyun has run out of fucks to give about anything much, perhaps partly because the odd almost-pass the Hedwig person makes at Ji Hyun needs to be turned down for Hedwig to fit their own story.

And possibly Ji Hyun and Ae Ri, for a narrative point to be made later, must be condescending in these scenes, making fun of the Hedwig person's admittedly over the top presentation.

Either way, going down the "your other half is within yourself" path would show some finding strength in oneself (as Ji Hyun does all along, and perhaps Jae Won needs to learn?) may not hand over a happy ending in the sense that Ji Hyun and Jae Won live happily ever after.

Deny me and be doomed

This quote is often interpreted to mean that Hedwig/Hansel can't deny themselves - the person they were meant to be, up until their life really went off course. It can also be interpreted as Hedwig's right to be seen, to be acknowledged by their surroundings, to not be ignored.

So who must not be denied in T8S? Possibly Ji Hyun, who will have Jae Won and who's come out to his friends and who will not let anything get in his way anymore. Possibly the Hedwig person will resurface to teach them a lesson about this or pay Ji Hyun and Ae Ri back, like Eskild schools Isak about his homophobia in SKAM.

Possibly it's a lesson Ji Hyun is supposed to bring to Jae Won, for him to stop denying himself and tear himself loose from the trappings of the chaebol, the rigid hierarchy and the conservatism.

Going after the being seen point in HatAI might make for a bigger chance of a happy ending/Ji Hyun and Jae Won living happily ever after, as they could see each other - without being Plato's two halves of a whole.

I don't have any answers and I'm always reluctant to analyse too much until the very end, but I needed to get some thoughts about Hedwig and The Eighth Sense off my chest. Also I'm absolutely certain I've forgotten lots of points from earlier episodes that need to be tied in with this.

(On another T8S topic, the overly bright cinematography and disjointed narrative in episode 6 made sense to me after watching episode 7 - I believe Jae Won was the narrator, he definitely wasn't in the best of shapes, and he twisted and glossed over events and shoved the aftermath of the accident away, as it was represented only by him sitting alone on the beach. Also the music-less intro to episode 7 was so claustrophobic I nearly screamed.

Also do we really need to do coming out to your mate scenes that explicitly accepting. I found that a little jarring, I'd expect Joon Pyo to jump rather more around in the salad.

Also also that was an incredibly satisfying punch, Jae Won.)

Then again I'm really curious how Bobbie actions is gonna endanger Hanna safety I read somewhere that that's the turning point of the season

Lol Bobbie is a 16 year old teen who is trying to help her girlfriend the way she helps herself. It might not be necessarily helpful, but she's trying to be there for her

And I can also guarantee everyone that Anais friends won't be of much help too, if she went to them, not because they can't help, but because they're all 16 year old teens trying to fix a problem created by grown adults, I won't expect any of them to have actual helpful ideas to help Anais, simply because the problem can't be fixed by them

And yes, there's been so much worse and deeper stuff handled in the skamverse than smoking weed, wtfock just seems to be the only remake talking in detail about it

I honestly don't know how the smoking will affect Hanne or the others personally, my theory for now is that Anais will spiral further because of her parents and engage in drinking too much and smoking, and will go so far that there'll be an incident where she'll either collapses or something else bad happens to her, her friends find out about just how much Anais has been consuming, they blame Bobbie for it because they don't know about Anais problems, and boom, hellweek

rewatching episode 6 and thinking about the previous episodes, i can say the signs of his mental health deteriorating and the medication abuse were all there since the beginning and thus my theory is that jaewon might be bipolar? i mean:

the way jaewon acted with his ex when they were at beach

that whole relationship being confusing af and we not knowing what really happened, the way she keeps saying she didn't cheat on him and all

the fact he didn't remember his first kiss with jihyun (meds+alcohol=bad bad things)

the obvious bags under his eyes, he probably isn't sleeping well

man driving that car like crazy, i got triggered by it damn (impulsive behavior?)

in conclusion:

everything on episode 6 happened but he was probably going through a manic episode

that might lead to a depressive episode (an hallucination or jihyun drowning really happens and it just triggers jaewon? we shall see)

the fact one of the actors said he watched skam 3 and that show having a whole character who's bipolar

the depressive episode + the possibility of jihyun almost drowning leads to jaewon trying to kill himself by drug overdose (?)

i rest my case (until next week bye)

My top 5 bls (for now 😌):

1.I told sunset about you- I'm a sucker for skinships but this series didn't need it for me to fall inlove. Just staring at each other was enough tbh. Also Oh-aew's dialogues to comfort Teh to not overthink/confused really warms my heart.

2.Not Me-Aside from being a bl the plot is really good. I just love the story. As usual OffGun supremacy. The acting is insane esp Gun's.

3.Bad Buddy-The 2nd bl that I watched. I laughed and had so many butterflies on ohmnanon's impeccable acting and chemistry.

4.Kinnporsche-My longing for more mature scenes lmao but skinships aside the plot is also really interesting and the side characters are also as equal to the main leads tbh they're never boring.

5.Theory of Love-Again OffGun supremacy. I just love the friendship to lovers trope and I love Khai's character development.

I also watched some bls but these 5 will have a special place in my heart. 😘

My honorable mentions:

2gether-The first bl i watched. No wonder the audience are hooked by this series it's because of BrightWin's undeniable chemistry,supportive friends,and the cute story.

Dark Blue Kiss-PeteKao Supremacy. Pete's supportive dad and 'dating a man is just like dating a girl there's no difference' hell yeah.

Tharntype-I love toxic relationships lmao jk. The overall chemistry,jealousy moments,and sweet moments.

Vice Versa-The story is unique. It's like a multiverse but in bl. Still ongoing but I hope we get a happy ending.

Young Royals-The aquarium scene. One of the best scene ever. I love how complicated this lovestory is.

Kieta Hatsukoi-Michieda is so cute. I'm a sucker for jdoramas and this is my first japanese bl. The wholesome and cuteness overload.

Heartstopper-One of the best bl in the history. Nick's the best bf ever. There are other preferences in this series too.

Skam(Norwegian ver.)-Isak and Even supremacy. One of my fave otps ever.

Cherry magic-The innocence and cuteness of Adachi.

Elitè-Not entirely a bl but Patrick is one of my most fave characters in the history of all series and my versa king.

In regards to the BBC List: I wanted to know which shows you think should be on the list that aren’t already there. Also, if you would get rid of certain shows.

two shows that immediately jump out to me are #47 Grey's Anatomy and #56 The Big Bang Theory, sorry but both are garbage

very uncool of me to say but I think #2 Mad Men is incredibly overrated, it bores me to tears

amusing that The Sopranos isn't on the list at all, but I'm not mad about it, it's vastly overrated by straight men

90s staples that aren't on the list because people have soured on them for valid reasons, but I'd still add them anyway: Friends, The Simpsons, Sex and the City

...like honestly the fact that #56 The Big Bang Theory and #86 How I Met Your Mother make the list but not Friends? come on now, they're not better shows

for me the ones that are very obviously missing are:

ER (1994-2009): groundbreaking television at the time, has aged so much better than most 90s hits, one of my all-time favorite shows, love it to death

My Brilliant Friend (L'Amica Geniale, 2018-current): masterpiece for tasteful girlies, I'm begging everyone to watch it mamma mia

I'm sure a few more British shows should be added, the ones that come to mind are:

Queer As Folk (1999-2000): another one of my all-time faves, also groundbreaking, I've rewatched it many times

The Hour (2011-2012): I don't understand why you'd have #75 Babylon Berlin but not The Hour on the list, similar vibe but better

Black Books (2000-2004): #20 The Thick Of It is the superior comedy, but I'd take Black Books over #9 The Office and #42 Peep Show any day

The Last Kingdom (2015-2022): this show is a mystery to me because it's legit great, and it got 5 seasons and a movie, but it's like it doesn't exist in anyone's mind?

I was happy to see my Scandinavian blorbos on the list (#40 Borgen and #34 The Bridge), and I'd add another one:

Skam (2015-2017): maybe unexpected from me since I'm an old hag, but I think it's as good as it gets for a teen show

#25 Summation, reflections and plans for 2024

Now that the calendar is over I want to wrap things up with some thoughts and facts about of what have been and what is coming.

The calendar

In this calendar I've written about 24 series that have meant something to me through my life. There are other series I might actually like more than some of them today, but they've all changed how I see things or how I feel about a certain subject. I started of with M*A*S*H, which will always be my all time favourite and which came into my life early. I ended with Julie and the Phantoms, which just recently came into my life and about which I still have a lot to learn. Some posts almost wrote themselves, while others needed some rewatches and reminiscing.

I stream A LOT of media, and mostly series, some weeks up to 40 hours. This because I usually have something on in the background, it makes me focus even better. So, to help with this, my goal for 2024 is to complete a list of series I want to watch, but haven't dealt with yet. skam italia theory based on the trailer - please have a look at the tw

got the vibes that the season deals with csa -- to a degree i'm not sure of. possibly looking too much into this, but viola says "you know when i told you i had a thing [storia doesn't translate into relationship] with someone older? i wasn't the only one" and it cuts -> to elia accusing the girls of being self-righteous and judgmental + "you understand fucking nothing" -> the statues pointing/looking at him

cut to him looking distraught, distressed, and then the cemetery scene where he's looking, conflicted, at a young woman's tombstone. she's got black hair and the date of death seems to be 2012 (to me at least). the flowers are all old and withered, compared to the other tombs, meaning it hasn't been visited in a while. the perpetrator? [someone in the notes suggested: or another victim]

the trailer continues highlighted being asking him if he's okay, including a man i don't think we've met before (his father?) and him clearly struggling with his mental health, until it peaks with him saying, 'there's something i haven't told you'.

which. overall. if i were right. it's the kind of trauma that would tie into his behavioural and anger problems + commitment issues.

tagged by @theoryofarson – thank you <333 Three ships Kim/Chay is my main one right now, they make me feel so much. I've listened to some Sterek podfics recently and yep, Sterek is still eternal. Never letting them go, no way. KP is just a momentary distraction. Sterek has everything I also love about other ships. Martino and Niccolò from Skam Italia, it's been four years since I first watched their season and they still make me just as happy.

First ever ship I think the very first one I've read fanfiction for is Brian/Justin from QaF US. I must have been 14 and it was a nearly 500k post-canon fic, though I doubt I read all of it. I still have the link but there's no way I'll read smut in German. I was also really into the gay storylines from soaps from all over the world. Maybe one of those came before.

Last movie I can't remember, I rarely ever watch movies. The next movie, though, is going to be Two and One with Paolo Pangilinan from Gaya Sa Pelikula. I've wanted to see it since it came out but couldn't legally. I finally found a file for the English subs and a download for the movie, though. So I guess piracy it is? I wanted to give them money, okay? The site just wouldn't let me.

Currently reading Whatever fanfics I am subscribed to and in theory also Buddenbrooks by Thomas Mann, I like it but it's been a year and I've managed less than 1/3.

Currently Watching Gannibal - I've only got one episode left but I am being a bit of a baby about it. It's scary, ok? I am fine with eating children once a year, I am less fine with keeping them in a cave for years until it's time to eat them. Word of Honor - It took me six months to watch the second episode so who knows how long it will take me to watch the next one, but I like it so far, even though I have no idea what is going on. Just a lot of flirting in front of teenagers, that I got. I am also rewatching the third season of Druck even if that is a slow process.

Currently Craving Again, so unspecific. Food? None. Though lately, I have been thinking about dubu-jorim a lot, or rather my spin on it. Maybe I'll make that tomorrow. Adding to that whole Finn characterization thing, the writers also broke with the Skam tradition of the typical narrative structure of the seasons, where at least in one episode, the love interest is in focus. I guess most of you are familiar with this anyways, but i'll try to shortly explain how a Skam season is (typically) structured.

Episodes 1 -3: establish our main and their character traits, the situation they find themselves currently in, their family background, their hobbies etc.; they also hint at potential struggles, which is why a lot of theory making by the fans is happening here; and, of course, they show us who is going to be the love interest.

Episodes 4 - 7: we can see our main struggling with the themes established before, but also some achievements and happy moments (usually the first kiss, or getting together with the LI); there are some up's and downs in the plot and at the end of this bumpy ride, we also have a pretty clear idea what the love interest is like, and we are guessing about their central struggle.

Episode 8, also known as hellweek: Now, our LIs struggle is clearly pointed out, leading to an accumulation of both the main's and the love interest's problems; this is leaving the main as desparate as never before. Gradually tho, they manage their way out of the mess so that...

in Episode 9, the love interest is in focus. In the case of newly established relationships, we see the main dealing and overcoming their own problems, and then fighting for the Love Interest, to get back together with them (the only exeption here is the Hannah/Eva season, which ends with a breakup, but we still learn a lot about Jonas' character and background story in the last two episodes).

Finally, Episode 10 is where all storylines come together, eventual side conflicts are resolved, everyone is happy.

Let's go back to the current season and how Finn is (not) in focus here.

The topics established in the first three episodes can still be considered the main topics of the season, though we all agree they were handled messy and weirdly. And I do think, up to episode three, the season was quite okay.

But episode 4 - 7 do not provide us with a coherent 'up and down' of the Failin relationship, but rather with a messy, incoherent construction of both characters and that love relationship, which also in later scenes seemed underdeveloped. That resulted in almost nobody rooting for them to get together.

Both episode 7 and 8 seemed like hellweek for Mailin (and Zoe), and while Mailin got really tangled up in her own problems, I don't see a central struggle for Finn.

That Mailin is avoiding him? That's HER problem, not his, anyone would have been annoyed by that.

Him feeling like a 'tryout boyfriend' is also not really his problem, but kind of the conclusion of how Mailin has treated him so far.

So again, a reactive characterization.

And now we are at the end of episode 9, and I don't see the drama ending?? And I also don't really see Mailin 'fighting' for Finn, or how the plot takes Finns feelings/struggles into consideration. It is all about Mailin.

And that might be one of the central mistakes that were made during this season. Having it solely revolve around a white, skinny, heterosexual, neurotypical girl, a character who we have seen over and over in the media landscape. Making her BY FAR the most privileged character in the series, by also giving her a high socio-economic status, and then barely reflecting her privileges. And that, while having an extremely diverse friend group around her, whose stories even centered around not having these privileges, being discriminated against and disadvantaged. And on top of that, having these characters doing nothing, but praising her.

With everything happening, the writers and creators of S8 are completely ignoring thoughtfully made casting choices and previously established storylines.

I'm so done with this season, and tired of criticizing it, but especially the last aspect I wanted to point out again, as it bothers me a lot.

So much has happened in the span of 24 hours lol. I hate how skams seasons can be especially when you're obsessed with the storyline.

Being gay really is a trauma in skam land and we suffer either way.

This season is giving maya season vibes like the theories, the delusion of the people until the last clip even when the signs are there that is not gonna end how we wanted it, also the fact that the li was heavily promoted also.

They will never get it right with a wlw season I'm afraid except maybe fatous but even hers had some mishaps. Anyways can't wait for this season to be over so I can move on with my life again

At this point I'm just going to go with the flow and stop having expectations, it hurts less this way lol
