This doesn’t happen to people like me very often.” So said 29-year-old Harry Styles, accepting his Grammy Award for Album of the Year on Sunday night. Most normal people assumed that by “people”, Styles meant a boy born outside of Birmingham and brought up in between Crewe and Manchester, far from the bright lights of London and the Brit School. But the internet is not full of normal people, and outrage ensued, as critics claimed that Styles was ignoring his white privilege – and, worse, having a pop at Beyoncé.
Styles also drew ire by arguing that “there’s no such thing as ‘best’ in music”, and refusing to say that he thought Beyoncé would win, instead saying merely that “you never know with this stuff”. The critics didn’t hold back. “‘This doesn’t happen to people like me’,” wrote the American podcaster Sam Sanders, “is the most white privilege-iest thing to ever be uttered at an awards show ever for all time [sic].” “Beyoncé continues to be boycotted, without AOTY [Album of the Year] and used as a token to disguise the Academy’s racism,” complained the pop-culture website Pop Tingz.
Styles may have had a wobbly night – not least because the turnstile on which his dance number was meant to be performed rotated in the wrong direction – but an attack on “Queen B” this was not. To most Britons, Styles’s accent is the clue that he’s different from many a young London silver-spoon star; yet this subtlety is almost entirely lost on Americans. True, that Cheshire accent has been muddied by his recent attempt at a transatlantic twang while filming Don’t Worry Darling.
And having a finance director for a father hardly puts you in league with British pop’s history of working-class heroes, from The Beatles to Oasis. Yet these days the industry has changed, and Styles is quite clearly different to the likes of Florence Welch or Marcus Mumford, who seem to fit into the world of fame as if they were born to it.
We’ve been here before. In 2019, when Sam Fender, born in North Shields, dared to explain why “white privilege” sounded like a difficult concept to the white men with whom he grew up, he was labelled tone-deaf and racist. This is the success of the “white privilege” label: admit it and you’re damned, deny it and you’re deluded. But in importing a particularly American brand of racial politics, discussion about success within the British arts only becomes skewed.
Unlike in the States, class is a greater defining factor of success in Britain than race or gender are – a fact that many commentators seem to want to forget. “The debate raging online about where Styles sits on the class spectrum is a fascinating insight into Britain’s class obsession,” wrote one writer in The Guardian. That sound you can hear is a nation of working-class music-lovers choking on their own scorn.
Styles, in truth, is both right and wrong. Poor boys and girls have often made it to the top, though often that has been on account of the sheer tenacity of their talent. Barry Keoghan is currently flavour of the month in Ireland for his performance in Martin McDonagh’s film The Banshees of Inisherin, despite his extremely tough and poverty-stricken upbringing, which involved going in and out of the care system.
Bands have often capitalised on class difference, too – admitting whether you were an Oasis or a Blur fan was as much a class signifier as the tea-vs-supper debate, and it did neither band any commercial harm. Some fans have also pointed out, amusingly, that Adele, who was also up for Album of the Year at the Grammys, was born and raised in Tottenham.
A working-class hero Harry Styles may not entirely be, but he certainly isn’t a white-privilege villain either. And we would all do well to remember that awards ceremonies, and the speeches made at them, may be full of glitz and glamour, but they bear little relevance to the politics of the real world – or to the real people who live out there.

In 2015 he said this was about girl stuff, drug stuff, financial stuff. In 2016 is said "“Yeah. Absolutely. And the reason I mention that is because if I had gone out with Taylor Swift I would’ve been, ‘F***ing hell! I am NOT being Taylor Swift’s boyfriend.’ You know, ‘F***. Born with the silver spoon in his mouth, Nathan was given everything he wanted. His father a high end sports agent and his mother owning a publishing empire, they never even came close to lacking in the money department.
He started playing hockey at the age of 6 per request of his father and he was absolutely a natural at it. Something he'd make into his career in the future.
He never had a problem making friends as a kid, but he did have a problem keeping them. His bad attitude made a lot of his relationships suffer and it wasn't until high school that he learned to tone it down a little bit. Not enough to keep him from bullying other kids or being the rich jackass he is though.
He dated around a lot throughout his life, but only had one serious relationship with The Siren.

A copy of the original Les Diners de Gala, of 400 that were published in 1973 by Taschen
After its original publication in 1973, Dalí's cookbook, Les Diners de Gala was never reprinted until recently. The German publishers Taschen, which published the original, have made the book available to the mass market. This is good news for fans of Surrealism, as original copies can fetch hundreds of dollars.

Dalí created the 36 illustrations specifically for the cookbook, which contains 136 recipes, some of which originated in notable Parisian restaurants.
Anyone who's seen even a sampling of Dalí's works, realizes that food was a consistent motif employed by the artist. Eggs, a symbol of fertility, are said to represent Dalí's insistence that he had memories of his time in the womb. Lobsters can be found in a number of works. Perhaps less obvious is the melting clock, which Dalí once stated was not so much a symbol of time as it was what he thought a round of brie cheese might look like melting in the sun.
Dalí and his wife Gala (after whom the cookbook was titled) were known to host elaborate dinner parties to which celebrity guests were invited. Guests dressed in bizarre costumes and wild animals, including Babou, Dalí’s pet ocelot, roamed freely and mingled.

The illustration that accompanies the recipe Bush of Crawfish in Viking Herbs. Joan of Arc as the cake-topper atop a tower of crayfish • 1971. The woman’s torso gushes blood from the wounds of her amputated arms and bloodied bodies surround the bottom of the platter.
Without a doubt, food was important to Dalí and Gala. While most artists toward the end of their careers write autobiographies and memoirs, Dalí wrote and illustrated a cookbook. It's a rather apt departure from the norm. The book embodies all that is Dalí and embraces Surrealism as only Dalí could.
As a final testament to Dalí's love of and preoccupation with food, this beautiful set of utensils created by the artist in 1957.
Dalí created a six piece utensil place settting consisting of an elephant fork with three prongs, a large artichoke spoon, a leaf knife, a fork with four prongs, a small artichoke spoon, and a snail knife with tears. (Silver-gilt with enameled artichoke leaf and polychrome). When the set went on auction in 2012, it sold for $28,125.

A small trip down one minimal character design choice...
#and josie's headpiece too! in this piece
I AM SO GLAD SOMEONE ASKED ABOUT IT. :D
(so I can fangirl for a while over little trips of research I did)
Josie's headpiece is actually inspired by a regional Italian style from Lombardy (the region where Milan is, North, just above the peninsula)! Antiva is clearly Venice (motion: allow me to gift some spritz to Zevran in Origin), and back in the day Venice and Milan were biting at each other's neck... But the Inquisition symbol, so spiky, reminded me a lot of this hairstyle, very popular in XVII century Lombardy and featured in one of our most famous novels ever, Alessandro Manzoni's the Bethroted:
This hairstyle is very typical of the areas north of Milan, comprehending the surroundings of Como, Lecco, Varese and the Brianza (the area between Milan and the lakes). It was worn in special occasions and festive days by young girls who were of suitable age for marriage, but still unmarried.
It consists of long braids collected on the back of the head in a chignon, pinned in place with a long metal rod on the base -called a "sponton"- and decorated on both hands, and a set of long pins called "spadinn" ("little swords") placed to form a fan/crown/halo shape.
The material of the pins varied according to the possibilities of the family: froom the cheapest wood, to copper and brass, going up to silver and even gold. The outer extremity of the pins also were more or less decorated, the richest could have pearls and filigree, the poorest had just a wider concave shape similar to a spoon (and indeed they were also called "cugiaritt", little spoons).
The number varies from town to town and family to family, there's a range going from 24 to 47 (!) in Lecco, or 30 to 40 in Varese, and the tradition went that parents gifted one pin to their daughter from their First Communion (Catholicism yay, it usually happens when you're 10/11), and one for each birthday until they married.

This tho is Empress Charlotte of Mexico, an Habsburg princess, with a traditional Lombardy hairstyle! (most of the north of Italy, except for Piedmont and Turin, was under Austrian rule by then and until 1861)
This is not typical of Venice, and really Milan/Lombardy and Venezia/Veneto are two separate entities, still I thought that it could be a good way to fit a variation of this, shaping it more like an Inquisition eye... And that's my research pit of today.
All the sources I found are in Italian, unfortunately, but I found this website that explains it in english, with a lot of photos!

Type 3 and playing nice
Is the chameleon nature and ability to play to an audience present in every 3 regardless of MBTI type?
It seems to be, provided there's no high Fi interfering with it -- and even then, an EFP 3 can get away with being charming. I remember seeing Bill Clinton (ESFP 3) on a talk show after that whole Monica Lewinsky thing. I went into it knowing "this guy is a lying a-hole," and ten minutes into the interview was thinking, "What a lovely guy!" He is just so damn likable. My ESTJ 3w2 relative can do the same thing. I know for a fact how obnoxious and controlling he can be at times, because I've crossed him, but if you just interact with him casually or meet him for two hours, you walk away thinking what a nice person he is, and how you have misjudged him, and maybe he's not really a jerk after all. He seems so warm and engaged and interested in you, and like such a decent person.
I don't often spot 3s immediately, but I am pretty sure a woman I met recently is an EFJ 3. She just came into a group, immediately adapted to it, and has made everyone like her, while also being very driven, productive, and proactive ("you don't sit on your hands"). I invited her to a spring tea held at my house because I just knew that she could merge into the group and it would be like she'd been friends with them all for twenty years -- and that's exactly how it went down. Everyone adored her and wants her back at my next tea. It's a gift 3s possess to be likable through image-management and to get a sense of their audience and adjust to meet them (and I am jealous of it).
I noticed that there are many characters who are ExTPs who fit that side of the 3 description, but the ones who aren't (most are TJs as I can remember) seem to not have that polish and are at times typed as 8s. I'm thinking of people like Blair Waldorf and Cheryl Blossom, who even with social instinct are very rude and mean to others and so are unlikable to most characters in their story, though many fans love them.
There are some jerk 3s, yes. But fiction can also play up the "bitch" angle a great deal, and where you come from and what society expects from you is also a factor -- a 3 who has worked themselves up from the gutter of life doesn't start out with the same entitlement attitude as an upper crust high society brat who isn't used to being nice to people. It doesn't mean a high society person can't be a 3 and still be nice to "the help," but if you've had a silver spoon in your mouth your entire life and always gotten whatever you wanted when you demanded it, that fosters an attitude of "epic brat." Power corrupts a 3 the same as it would any other number, and being rich, famous, and popular is a form of power.
And yet... don't we still kinda like Blair and Cheryl for BEING bitchy? Isn't it kinda fun to tune in to see who they insult this week?
There's also some wing involvement happening -- a 3w4 is more elitist than a 3w2, since one has a wing focused on not being one of the banal masses and the other has a wing urging them to 'help' people (from a position of power). 3s can be divisive, though, and no, not all of them are likable. Some people like ESP 3w2 Tony Robbins and others find him obnoxious. It all comes down to personal flavor (and to some degree, if you believe in tritype, fixes; a 3-9 is a lot more likable to your average stranger than the aggressiveness of 3-8).
I'm trying to understand the difference of strategies to be successful I see 3s applying. Some seem to use force, while others social game, so I wanted to now where that comes from.
That is probably purely MBTI related (and again, fixes -- a 3-8 is double assertive and would use force to get what they want; a 3-1 or a 3-9 would not). I think social 3 would be the 3 most able to play a 'game' to get what they want, since they'd know what someone else expects from them and how to leverage that to get ahead in life.

● Kraven the Hunter is still on the loose. Spidey is looking for him but is getting cold in the snow
● Spider-Man swings to the prison but then turns back for home
● inside the prison, a dying inmate asks to see his cellmate Blackie
● it's Adrian Toomes. He would have been out in a month. He wants Blackie to continue his legacy … or something
● I wonder what that "accident in the workshop" was. Maybe some mind/body switcheroo is going to happen
● Blackie is demanding info from Toomes. Toomes tells him to lean closer…
● for what it's worth, Blackie's inmate number is 40817060
● Toomes tells him where to find the pair of vulture wings
● 500 yards from north gun tower near broken pines
● Blackie Drago admits now that it was no accident in the workshop, that he had arranged it to get Toomes to talk
● (don't die, Toomes! I like you)
● Blackie is a trustee and so can move around inside the gates, but now he's going to make a break for the outside
● "There's no one livin' who can stop a man with wings!" -- uh, a couple things, bud. 1) there are superheroes in your universe, and 2) Toomes had the wings and he was stopped
● he jumps a guy and takes his car out through the gates
● good thing the wings were just behind some boulders and not actually buried; no way he would have been able to dig up frozen ground before the guards catch up to him
● speaking of guards catching up, Blackie better hope the wings don't have much of a learning curve
● ha! Apparently there is a learning curve
● he gets away
● next morning, Pete and Harry are heading to school. Peter is coming down with something
● Gwen has a new hairdo that Pete compliments. Harry says that he likes it because it's styled like Mary Jane's hair. Heheh, your wingman technique needs some work, Harry.
● Professor Warren tells Peter he looks feverish and to go home
● Pete goes home and rests in front of the t.v., where J. Jonah Jameson comes on to bash Spider-Man
● then the news talks about the recent jailbreak
● Peter's t.v. is suddenly color now?
● Blackie fashions a new helmet (complete with radio reciever)
● he goes about on a crime spree, as one does
● Peter starts gearing up as Spidey, but he's really sick and weak
● he grabs for the phone to call Matt Murdock, but then changes his mind. He won't take a sick day because he fears he'll start "crying uncle" for dandruff or chapped lips. Bit of a reach there, Pete. Maybe Stan Lee is trying to shame his employees not to take sick days…
● damn, Vulture must have some excellent eyesight if he can make out what people are stuffing into briefcases from a distance
● briefcase is chained to the guy, so Vulture takes the whole dude
● flies them to the top of one of the towers on the George Washington Bridge (I'm scared of heights, so I'd be pissing myself)
● Vulture is going to throw the guy over the edge to try to break the bag open
● enter Spider-Man
● Spidey knocks Vulture into the Hudson (or thinks he did), then lowers the victim to the cops waiting on the bridge below
● (this Vulture has butt-shoulders)
● Vulture is flying around with Spidey trailing behind on a strand of webbing
● Vulture whips him about and sends him into the bridge… ouch
● he scoops him back up and flies over the city
● meanwhile, Anna Watson, Aunt May, and Mary Jane have gone to Peter and Harry's apartment to check on him
● of course he's not there so they assume he's feeling better, which relieves Aunt May of course
● M.J. suggests to Harry that they drive Anna and May home, then go to the Silver Spoon to look for Pete
● in the skies above, Spider-Man manages to get Vulture to drop him near a flagpole
● it's all he can do to stop being knocked to the ground by Vulture. Take a sick day next time, Spidey! There's no shame in it!
● aaaand Spidey gets knocked to a nearby rooftop, where he lays unconscious in the snow
Synopsis:
As Spider-Man searches the city for trace of Kraven the Hunter, at the nearby prison Adrian Toomes is apparently on his death bed following an accident. Before he seemingly dies, he tells his cellmate Blackie Drago the location of a spare set of Vulture wings. Once he learns of their location, Drago reveals that the his "accident" was planned in the hopes that Toomes would reveal the location of the wings so that once Drago gets out of prison he can use the technology for his own personal gain.
That night, Drago manages to sneak out of the prison, and finds Toome's spare set of wings: hidden in a hiding place near the prison. Drago manages to escape before the guards can capture him, mastering how to use the wings in moments and flying away.
Peter has given up his search for Kraven for a while, when he realizes that he's coming down with a cold from all his winter time web-slinging. When he hears news of the new Vulture on the prowl he goes out to find the new Vulture in spite of his illness. This ends up working against him, as the new Vulture manages to defeat him easily before flying away and leaving Spider-Man unconscious in the snow.

Backstory:
Alois was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and a golden cradle on his back. He grew up attending the best schools and spending his time traveling around the world with his parents. He became fluent in Spanish, Italian, Japanese, and English while speaking German as his mother tongue. However, financial struggles began when he was about 14 years old as print journalism started to decay in front of digital journalism.
Financial struggles wouldn’t have been that bad if his parents had adjusted their lives to a more comfortable one. Instead, they kept on losing money, creating enemies through loans and debt; they began fighting daily, and verbal fights became physical. Lastly, a hasty divorce was the final blow to their economic situation, where they lost their living place.
Luckily, Alois only had to endure this for a couple extra months. He earned a full scholarship to study Journalism in the UK. He then understood his parents’ ambitions didn’t lose track of him. It wasn’t a typical Magazine with celebrities’ gossip and gluten-free recipes; it was a bimonthly publishment of crimes worldwide. It became renowned for its unsolved crime section, attracting fans as well as cops, investigators, and detectives from around the world to Alois’ office to help them find the atrocious murderers with his critical thinking, ability to find patterns, and investigation skills. He helps but understands that blood sells the most and controls the entire world. This world needs the death of innocents for it to function. He helps with some cases to be solved, and he helps with some other cases to remain unsolved.
Alois Voigt can’t afford to go to jail for his crimes. Who would write the articles?

Anime Rec List: Underrated
It can be difficult to define something as ‘underrated’. After all, just because you haven’t seen anyone talking about a particular show doesn’t mean that it’s actually underappreciated by the internet or anime fanbase at large. However, for the purposes of this post, I’m choosing to call these shows ‘underrated’ because I believe they deserve to be discussed more than they are. Let’s begin!
Barakamon
Even though I’ve written about it multiple times on this blog, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone else talk about Barakamon. This show is about a calligraphy artist who gets banished from the craft after punching a judge, and is sent to a remote island to rediscover his love for art.
Silver Spoon
It shocks me how little I see written about Silver Spoon, considering how the original manga is created by Hiromu Arakawa, who famously also wrote Fullmetal Alchemist. This hilarious show is about a city boy who goes to farming high school to escape the stresses and pressures of modern school life.
Hyouka
Hyouka is a beautiful show by Kyoto Animation about a boy with low energy who gets roped into solving mysteries with the rambunctious Classics club at his school. Despite being exclusively about the low-stakes problems high schoolers get into, Hyouka is genuinely a gripping mystery the whole way through.
Natsume Yuujinchou
If you like slice of life shows and you’ve never heard of Natsume, you’re in for a real treat because this yokai-of-the-week show has 6 whole seasons. I myself have only seen 2 of them so far, but I thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Natsume is about a young boy who can see spirits who keeps getting attacked by monsters who had beef with his grandmother.
Chihayafuru
So this one is actually pretty well known and popular if we’re going by numbers, but I really don’t see it discussed often (and I’ll take any chance I get to talk about one of my favorite shows) so here I go again. Chihayafuru is a riveting sports anime about Karuta players, particularly Ayase Chihaya, whose goal is to become the best Karuta player in the world. If you’re a sports anime fan and you haven’t seen Chihayafuru yet, what are you waiting for??
So in conclusion, these might not be the most obscure, never-before-seen anime that exist, but in my opinion they could use a lot more love, especially in online spaces. I’ve made a few other Underrated blog posts, so if you liked this one be sure to check those out too. Thanks for reading!

Day four of the Horror on Cherry Lane Challenge! Today’s prompt was Sunglasses!
Steve has a lot of secrets. Too many probably.
Most teenagers’ secrets are things like sleeping with the wrong people, smoking the cheap shit the jocks pass out, broken curfews and failing grades. He’s got all of those too, but Steve's secret runs much deeper than that.
His is the kind of secret that’d have men in black suits coming to take him away, or at this point, more than a decade after letting him go in the first place, putting a bullet in the back of his skull and calling it a day before any trouble comes up.
He’s been stuck in Hawkins all his life. Been fed the knowledge about the world off a silver spoon he didn’t ask for. His first five years of life are well forgotten to shock therapy and to the lab, where they intended to use him and the rest of the kids like him as weapons. Pawns in their big game of life.
But Steve was different. He could turn his powers off, make them undetectable by the machines they hooked him up to. They thought he was just a failure, so after so long, they wiped his brain with their very own cocktail of drugs and just let him go. Adopted him out to a middle aged dink couple who wouldn’t run their mouths about where their little bundle of joy came from as long as their pockets were lined with enough hush money, and that was that.
It didn’t take long for them to realize though, that he wasn’t as normal as they had been convinced he was. Not even knowing he was doing anything wrong, little Stevie would have outbursts, or small tantrums as momma always tried to convince everyone who told her Steve was too much for her to handle.
These weren’t just normal crying fits though. Anyone who got near him would be just as sad or scared or frustrated as he was. A single sob from that boy had enough power to crack the foundations of the family home.
Most kids when they have a cranky morning will get on the nerves of their parents, but Steve could disrupt the whole neighborhood without even realizing it. And that was his power.
They didn’t have a name for it, really. The range of what he can do is too broad, too undefined by anything else. There was a telekinetic girl, a pyrokinetic he’s pretty sure is dead now. But Steve was just special. Part of what made it so easy to go under their radar was this, but it also made him a risk.
The only reason he wasn’t immediately reported and given back to the bad men was the power this frail boy carried. It scared Ruthie and John, and they decided that they’d rather face the men at that lab again than a seven year old who could accidentally destroy them with his emotions.
So they kept him, and certainly kept their distance. They forced him into a little mold of how to behave properly and made him take pills to weaken his powers. They send him to behavioral therapy and make him act like he’s not a failed government experiment. A fact which he only learned a couple of years ago after his pills worked a little too well at messing with his memory that he forgot to take them, and memories came flooding back.
For the same reasons, Steve’s bored of being careful. Bored of following all the rules and being passive, just pretending he’s like everyone else so mommy and daddy dearest are safe. He starts getting a little riskier, testing what he can do, since this is the first time he’s ever really had control over his ability. He finds a link with other people and their emotions, something of an empathy power, but he doesn’t get far in his research, because his plan very quickly goes to shit when Billy Hargrove rolls into town.
Where to begin with Billy. That boy makes him feel all sorts of things he never even considered. The very first day he showed his unimpressed (but very impressive) face at Hawkins high, Steve cracks his windshield. Oops.
He was able to tap into that control and tone it down, but that reserve dwindled the more he’s around Billy, and from there it just spirals. Bending the basketball hoop on accident, exploding light fixtures, giving everyone in the school headaches. It gets to the point where Steve has to come to terms with the fact that he had a crush on Billy, and that he has to do something to get it back under his control before somebody gets hurt.
That and he doesn’t want to get caught now. He just got back into the swing of using his powers before Billy interrupted his calm. Going back there, or whatever else might happen, is the last thing he wants for himself.
He settles for a pair of ray bans.
It’s stupid, but when Steve was still young and all but popping his mommas brains every single time he cried, she was desperate to find a way to get him to stop. She started to notice he’d concentrate hard on one thing and another would happen, staring at a lamp until it shattered, looking into her face until her ears started to ring and pop. So she does what she can to break that subconscious focus. Puts a barrier between him and all that he’s hurting. A plastic, race car themed barrier, but it does its job, and it worked every time until they got him on meds. So now that he’s old enough not to just tear the damn things right off his face, he figures it’s worth a shot.
Because nothing had made him this emotional, this out of control since the day he found out the truth about his past. Billy is special, and the very last thing he wants is to lose control and hurt him.
He still feels like a dope walking into the school with a pair of shades on. Everyone starts to stare in that way he tries not to let remind him of the lab and the doctors standing in circles around him, prodding and waiting for a reaction. Steve thinks wearing sunglass inside is the least weird thing to happen in the halls of a highschool if Tina can come in with a perm high enough to touch the ceiling, but whatever. He’ll get over it.
The fact that nothing’s exploded from how on edge he is, mostly from wondering if his momma’s trick will work and not because of their judgement, is a very good sign.
Boldly, he decides to put it to the ultimate test, and approaches Billy.
In his head, he’s so focused on just going to talk to Billy, he has nothing planned to say to him, but he thinks he would’ve forgotten anyways, what with the lazy smile Billy flashes him when he notices him approaching.
Steve’s gaze quickly darts past Billy to check for damage to anything, the racing in his chest from just a look like that typically enough to at least crack a window. Maybe he’s not as confident about this as he thought, or maybe Billy’s just really good at making him flustered.
Doesn’t matter, because he’s at the other boys locker before he has time to process what he’s doing, “Lookin’ for somethin’ Harrington?”
“Oh, yeah, I was just checking for uh, my fans. Yeah, they follow me around everywhere, you know?” It’s bullshit, and it sounds more than dumb coming out of Steve’s mouth, but it makes Billy laugh, real low and raspy and that’s a win in his book.
“That what the little disguise is for?” Billy hums and taps his temple, clearly referring to the sun glasses perched on Steve’s nose.
“Oh these? No, I uh, wear these ‘cause of the uh.. because I wanna sleep in class and down want the teachers to know?” His answer comes as more of a question than anything, so he’s grateful when Billy seems to be more interested in his excuse than the subject at hand.
“Pfft, yeah right. I’ve heard you sleepin’ on the basketball bus. Ain’t no way your snoring doesn’t get you caught before your eyes do.”
Steve just waves him off, laughs with Billy even if his heart isn’t in it.
Billy closes his locker door, switching the subject as the scenery switches. It’s all a distraction to Steve, but he forces himself to look Billy in the face as the other boy asks him, “Seriously though dude, you okay? It ain’t like you to switch up your look. You’re not hiding anythin’ under the shades are you?”
“Nah. Just been thinking, I’m not the King because I’m not cool anymore, right? So I’m tryin’ to look a little more.. interesting.” Steve’s not a very quick or good liar, despite the military guarded secret that is himself and the little black number seven carved into his arm, and he can tell Billy doesn’t buy it.
He’s a good sport though, throwing an arm around Steve’s shoulders and assuring him with a little jostle, “Aw, Stevie, you're cool in my book. At least as long as you quit comin’ up with reasons not to hang with me, yeah?”
“Yeah, I- alright. I can do that. Sorry for flaking so much though. Didn’t realize until you said something.”
“S’Cool. Just meet me at the quarry after dark and it’ll make up for it.” Billy offers, obviously trying to play up the coolness neither of them apparently actually have, and Steve can’t help but call him on it. “It gets dark at like, four-thirty, five o’clock anymore?”
“Fine. Meet me at nine, pretty boy.” Billy smirks, dropping his voice to add knowingly, “And lose the shades. I think you’re much more interesting without ‘em.”
