yandere! luo binghe with shixiong!male!reader headcanons
Tumblr media
Warnings: obsessive behavior, mentions of violence, physical abuse, and blood.
There may also be possible triggers in this story.
If you do not feel comfortable venturing any further, please hit the 'back' button on your device or computer and read something much more pleasant than a possible series of unfortunate events.
I would like to thank @berrypuddingpwease for helping me expand a concept to full-fledged headcanons featuring one of my favorite characters from MXTX's danmei series, Scum Villian's Self-Saving System, aka SVSSS. This is dedicated to you, my friend :)
So without being said, sit back, relax, and enjoy!
Luo Binghe had suffered one tragedy after another in his life, and being a disciple of Cang Qiong Mountain Sect with a scummy master would later serve as the foundation of his twisted personality in the future. You know it will happen because you have read it. This world you had woken up in, is none other than the famous stallion novel, Proud Immortal Demon Way. Your current incarnation wasn’t a member of Luo Binghe’s three digit harem nor the villain Shen Quingqui, but an extra, a senior disciple in Qing Ding Peak.
Since you weren’t equipped with a system, at least that you were currently aware of at the moment, it wouldn’t be considered OOC for canon fodder to try and be a good mentor to the current white lotus that is Luo Binghe, or try to improve your own cultivation so there was a chance you would survive the sect’s demise when the protagonist emerged from the Endless Abyss as an awakened Heavenly Demon.
It started off with the small things; greeting Luo Binghe  with a smile whenever you saw him, sneaking an extra bit of food or medicine into the woodshed when you were sure no one was watching you, especially Shen Qingqiu. He might be a good teacher, but his temper was a legend in this peak.
The only way you could help Luo Binghe improve himself was to purposely compare your cultivation manual with the one he had, the false one written by the peak lord in an attempt to thwart the protagonist’s growth. By doing this, it would add another reason for Luo Binghe to hate his shizun.
You allowed him to borrow your book to copy any information he needed, as long as he was discreet. Lup Binghe swore to take good care of the manual, holding it close to his chest with sparkling eyes as he stared at you with a smile. It was cute, this white lotus version of Binghe.
Seeing positive changes in how behavior had been worth withstanding Shen Qingqiu’s anger, especially when he found out just the other day that you were the culprit who had been sneaking an extra portion of food to the protagonist. Good things the sleeves of the cultivation uniform were long enough to hide the bruises starting to form on your arms. There’s no doubt that the sect leader will start dishing out punishment to you from now on, even for the smallest mistake.
Oh, well. You’ll just have to be more careful in behaving around the rest of the sect and Binghe from now on. Still, how could he continue to grow without triggering the events that would lead to his blackening?
As you contemplated these thoughts, you could not have realized nor believed just how much of your presence in this world the plot of Proud Immortal Demon Way in very unexpected ways until it was too late to revert the damage that had already been done.
Luo Binghe is a  very sticky, lovesick puppy for the shixiong who has treated him with so much kindness and respect and it scares him. He’s afraid he’ll wake up one morning….and realize that it had been a sweet, sweet dream. But he wakes up early every morning, and he sees his shixiong teaching the others alongside Ming Fan….and when his shixiong sees him, he smiles. And it is a warm, friendly smile that Binghe secretly wishes would belong only to him and no one else.
With his shixiong, Binghe’s life in the peak is so much better. He hasn’t been this happy in a long, long time…so why was his shizun continuing to punish his shixiong so unfairly? His shixiong didn’t do anything wrong! He is training him and the other disciples in preparation for the Immoral Alliance Conference, and doing more than his fair share of the chores around the peak!
But no matter what his shixiong did or did not do, their shizun would pull him away from him or the others, and his shixiong would not return to the bamboo house until it was past dinner-time.
Shixiong tried to brush off his concerns with a smile, but Binghe wasn’t blind! He sees the angry whip marks on his senior’s arms, his head and robes soaked with tea, the pained look in his eyes! Shixiong….Shixiong doesn’t deserve to be treated like this!
He needed to get stronger. Not just to protect himself but to make sure Shen Quingqui wouldn’t hurt his shixiong ever again! And if the sect didn’t accept them being together, then they will find happiness elsewhere. Rogue cultivators did exist beyond these mountains, although the other disciples believed they were wholly evil. But Binghe has come to realize that this world isn’t just black and white.

Note
SY as a disciple on another peak? It's just very amusing to imagine LBH desperately scrabbling to get onto THAT peak, clearly there's been some sort of MISTAKE, he's supposed to be over there!!
lbh would just keep showing up like a stray dog, lmao. here's some qian cao peak disciple!sy taking care of little binghe!
---
As a reader, Shen Yuan had been under the impression that everyone knew about Luo Binghe nearly immediately. Shen Qingqiu and Liu Qingge fought over him at the disciple selection, only for Shen Qingqiu to treat the poor bun like shit, thereby causing a whole separate fuss as Yue Qingyuan unjustly defended the abusive actions of his scum shidi. That sort of thing was basically begging to be treated like hot gossip - surely, in a sect full of teenagers, news of Luo Binghe would travel nearly as quickly as he arrived on the peak!
So why is it, exactly, that the first Shen Yuan hears about Luo Binghe is the demon invasion that takes place years after Luo Binghe’s arrival?!
Was there no gossip after all? Are Qian Cao disciples really that busy that they don’t hear the gossip?! No, no - Qian Cao would obviously get the most gossip; every other peak visits Qian Cao regularly, and half of them end up high on pain meds while here, unable to filter most of their thoughts! If there had been gossip about Luo Binghe, Shen Yuan would have heard it first! He had been listening the hardest!!
In front of him, Luo Binghe shifts awkwardly. “Um, Shixiong…”
Shen Yuan feels like he’s been struck by an arrow.
Ah! Shixiong!! He called me ‘Shixiong’!! Luo Binghe’s Shixiong!! I could be Luo Binghe’s Shixiong!!!!! …Wait, no, the seniority of the peaks -
“Shixiong, is something wrong?” Luo Binghe asks hesitantly.
A second arrow!!! Shen Yuan is going to keel over and die, right here in the middle of the medicinal peak, because Luo Binghe keeps calling him ‘Shixiong’!!!
“Of course not,” Shen Yuan says, before gathering all his strength to tack on: “Shidi.”
Fuck the seniority of the peaks, to be this golden bun’s Shixiong is to ascend early!!
“Oh,” Luo Binghe says. He shifts again, looking around the small triage room they’re in.
The triage room he’d been directed to because he’d just finished fighting an unfair battle against a demon elder. Right. That triage room.
Shen Yuan clears his throat, smiles awkwardly, clears his throat again, and promptly begins treatment. The best pain medicine Qian Cao offers, the most expensive healing ointments, a tincture for general strength and wellness, a tea for good sleep - so what if Shen Yuan has to pull some of these things out of his personal stores? That’s Luo Binghe, and he’s bearing far more injuries than those that came from his battle with the demon!
He does his best to keep up friendly chatter the whole time, too - asking after Luo Binghe’s studies, backpedaling immediately and telling him what a good patient he is, asking after Luo Binghe’s friends, backpedaling again and telling him what a sweet boy he is -
Normal bedside manner. Shen Yuan is very good at that sort of thing, as a senior disciple of Qian  Cao.
Unfortunately, Shen Yuan eventually runs out of injuries to treat. He very badly wishes there was some sort of medical sanctions he could pull out of his ass to keep Luo Binghe on Qian Cao - something about the injuries on his back looking more like whip lashes than normal training injuries or wounds from the demonic invasion, something about the injuries looking like abuse - but Shen Yuan already knows there isn’t.
Only the peak lord could pull that sort of authority over Luo Binghe’s own Shizun; if Shen Yuan tried to do anything himself he’d end up in a diplomatic battle over it.
In the end, all he can do is pat Luo Binghe’s head a few times (and then a few times more, his hair is so soft now that Shen Yuan has carefully washed it out under the pretense of medical necessity for cleanliness!) and send him on his way.
Still, Shen Yuan cannot tolerate letting Luo Binghe suffer on Qing Jing, now that he knows Luo Binghe is there. He’ll have to find some excuses to run errands over there, or -
“Shixiong,” Luo Binghe calls from outside the disciple halls, looking shyly over at Shen Yuan.
Or, Shen Yuan thinks, more than a bit surprised, Luo Binghe will just show up for treatment on his own…?
Shen Yuan scrambles over to Luo Binghe, gently patting his head and turning his face this way and that and carefully running his hands over his shoulders, trying to figure out what’s wrong.
“Ah, Binghe, did I miss something yesterday? Shit - I mean, uh, shoot, you’re too young and cute to be cursing just yet, you hear me?”
Luo Binghe nods obediently, then shakes his head. “Shixiong didn’t miss anything,” he clarifies.
“Oh, good,” Shen Yuan says, letting go of some of the tension in his shoulders.
Shen Yuan of course put his best foot forward when treating Luo Binghe the other day, but he isn’t the peak’s best healer - he’d chosen Qian Cao to study poisons and rare flora and spiritual plants, not actual healing. He’d only been helping treat patients the day of the demonic invasion because half their best healers were missing!
“If Binghe’s alright, what can this -” Shen Yuan breathes deep, savors the feeling, “- this Shixiong do for you?”
Luo Binghe glances up at him shyly, big wet eyes peeking out from long lashes. Ah, the pinnacle of perfection, for a cute little boy!!
“I… tripped,” Luo Binghe says hesitantly.
Shen Yuan blinks down at Luo Binghe. Luo Binghe swallows thickly.
“On my back,” he adds. “And bruised it like - like the bruises Shixiong treated yesterday.”
“Bruises,” Shen Yuan echoes incredulously, which he thinks is a rather restrained response to hearing the sweet baby protagonist talk about lash marks as if they were mere bruises.
Luo Binghe nods, still looking up at Shen Yuan pleadingly. Shen Yuan sighs; it’s better to be able to treat Luo Binghe’s injuries than not to, even if Luo Binghe himself is going to downplay them even as he asks for help.
The Luo Binghe of Proud Immortal Demon Way had never asked for help from Qian Cao, now that Shen Yuan thinks about it.
…After he’s taken care of Luo Binghe, he’s going to figure out which disciple would’ve treated Luo Binghe in the original, and he’s going to put chili powder in all his tea, ah!!
---
Luo Binghe keeps coming back. Small injuries, larger ones, keening whines about how Shixiong, I’m scared of qi deviations, please help me cultivate safely!!
Shen Yuan is torn between feeling relieved that Luo Binghe has found a Shixiong (Shixiong!!) that he feels he can trust, and feeling absolutely terrified of Luo Binghe’s general health. The original Luo Binghe of PIDW had never felt this worried, he was never in so much pain over simple scrapes! Had Shen Yuan’s doting somehow turned the protagonist’s bones to glass??
Regardless, Luo Binghe spends more and more time on Qian Cao. He even shows up to some of the lessons Shen Yuan teaches, which - protagonist, you don’t need to know healing!! Your blood will do it for you, eventually! When that fails, a large-bosomed woman will take care of you!!
“I can’t help but feel bad for how often I bother Shixiong,” Luo Binghe whines when Shen Yuan tries to shoo him out of the Qian Cao beginner lessons. “Isn’t it better for me to learn how to take care of myself?”
It’s better for this Shixiong to take care of you, ah! Shen Yuan very much does not say, but he does begrudgingly let Luo Binghe stay.
Except the lessons go too late, and it’s dangerous for Luo Binghe to be wandering between the peaks after dark, so he ends up having to bunk with Shen Yuan for the night, and Shen Yuan offers him some of his old Qian Cao disciple robes to sleep in, and Luo Binghe never takes them off -
Shen Yuan stares at Luo Binghe, happily calling him ‘Shixiong’ and dressed in Qian Cao robes and without even the smallest of bruises or scrapes on his person, and -
Well, this is probably a good a way as any to rescue Luo Binghe, ah!

shen yuan likes yue qingyuan, the post
i've documented 19 moments featuring sy!shen qingqiu's feelings for yue qingyuan with the express purpose of showing those who think that sy!sqq doesn't like yqy that they are factually WRONG
this is a long one so buckle up, grab a snack, get a drink, etc etc
number one
Tumblr media
as it's the usual with shen qingqiu, the first thing he notices in a man is whether he's handsome or not. and here you go: the first thing he sees upon waking up from getting isekai-ed is a handsome, elegant young man looking at him with concern. we do know how shen qingqiu likes that look on pretty men (he likes it a lot)
i also want to point out that yue qingyuan is the first pidw character shen yuan meets. he's already linked to him, not only because he's shen qingqiu's martial sibling, but he's also intrinsically tied to shen yuan's rebirth, to the moment he opens his eyes to the pidw world for the first time. keep this in mind.
number two
Tumblr media
upon getting up to date on wtf happened to him and learning his new identity, the second thing shen qingqiu does is worry about yue qingyuan's fate. he doesn't even know him yet and is already giving him the blorbo treatment. why is that? oh, maybe because he likes him???
Tumblr media
do you know how many characters shen yuan was "rather fond of"??? not that many i tell you. he's only derailed from worrying about whether he'll cause yue qingyuan's death because the system gives him a little sneak peek of the human stick scene.
so up to this point sy!shen qingqiu has characterized yue qingyuan as a brother type, an amicable, elegant and handsome man, a bleeding heart, too good for this world.
number three
Tumblr media
now we add 'considerate' to the many praises shen qingqiu extols on yue qingyuan. the man has to be really busy with all the sect leader work he has to do and yet he makes time to visit shen qingqiu regularly. we know why yue qingyuan does that, but shen qingqiu won't learn about qijiu's backstory until much later, and right now it doesn't matter. the fact remains: shen qingqiu is grateful to the point of tears to have yue qingyuan. even if he doesn't talk about it, we can theorize that he feels a bit lonely: he's a stranger in a new world, like a newborn baby. he may be obsessed with luo binghe but at this point of the story he still hasn't got time to bond with him. so the person shen qingqiu first latches on immediately after his transmigration is yue qingyuan.
number four
Tumblr media
"how dare that scumbag shen jiu not treat his shixiong like the god he is, with the kindness and respect he deserves? well i'm not the same, so i WILL treat yue qingyuan better!"
(it's the intention what counts, okay? we know he kind of fuck ups a few times and gives yqy much stress)
also love how shen qingqiu says "brotherly covenant", he really values familial bonds, and he'll come to treasure his bonds with all his martial siblings really quickly.
also, may i point out that shen qingqiu decides to be a good shidi for yue qingyuan and treat him well without any "ulterior motives"? it's not even tied to his survival. he's a kind person by nature, yes, but he doesn't even try to convince the reader that he's going to be a good martial sibling for selfish reasons, which was the case with liu qingge. he just up and decides that yue qingyuan deserves his respect and consideration. he officially adopts yue qingyuan as his big brother.
number five
Tumblr media
"at home in the atmosphere of brotherly love", do i need to say more? yue qingyuan makes him feel at home in this new world, he's comfortable around him. his presence soothes shen qingqiu.
number six
Tumblr media
furthermore, yue qingyuan reminds him of the brothers of his first life, but the sorrow he feels for losing them is overpowered by a "comforting sense of warmth" so great it makes him feel cheerful. this is the scene where yue qingyuan welcomes him back upon his arrival from the skinner demon incident. in that scene, the first thing they do is smile at each other. shen qingqiu is happy to see him.
he's surprised when yue qingyuan takes his wrist to examine his spiritual circulation, but when he notices what yue qingyuan is doing he instantly relaxes. yue qingyuan's touch doesn't bother him at all.
see how yue qingyuan's presence is often linked to feelings of comfort, warmth, home, brotherly love, joyfulness? keep this in mind too. don't you dare to forget it.
number seven
Tumblr media
this is post-demon invasion, while they are discussing the effects of without a cure. shen qingqiu is making good on his word of treating yue qingyuan better than his predecessor, by tamping down yqy's tendency to blame himself for everything.
Tumblr media
"i understand that yue qingyuan is genuinely worried about me, unlike SOME PEOPLE, so i have to reassure him in case he decides to be more stressed than normal"
bonus: 7.5
Tumblr media
("the three of them" refers to shen qingqiu, mu qingfang and yue qingyuan)
i want to quote this part too, because i can, and because this scene in the donghua was 100% faithful to the novel. just another reminder that shen qingqiu likes martial siblings.
number eight
now we're coming to the siblings-coded moments
exhibit one: "oh oh i figured it out so i'll say it before you do"
Tumblr media
i want to point out that shen qingqiu says "obviously", because from his POV yue qingyuan only does things for a good reason. shen qingqiu idolizes him.
number nine
siblings-coded moments exhibit two: "i know how to make you let me do what i want"
Tumblr media
we've jumped 3 years, this is the prelude to jinlan arc, and this is how their relationship has evolved. shen qingqiu knows what he has to say for yue qingyuan to allow him to go to jinlan. this is a method he's used the past, of course, because this isn't the first mission he went on after getting poisoned or after the IAC.
+bonus: 9.5 yqy being a mother hen
(this is the day after lbh chased him around jinlan)
Tumblr media
number ten
Tumblr media
shen qingqiu has just been accused of abusing his disciple, consorting with demons, murder, and being demonic cultivator wu yanzi's disciple. yue qingyuan almost starts a fight right there and there because they want to take his shidi away, but shen qingqiu stops him and his other martial siblings before it can escalate.
he gives yue qingyuan a deep bow. we've already established he respects yue qingyuan a great deal. he's ashamed that he's caused yue qingyuan so much trouble and grief, because he really cares about him, and his opinion of him, and he genuinely didn't want to be like the original who made yue qingyuan suffer a lot. shen qingqiu cares about his sect, about his martial siblings, and about yue qingyuan to the point that he GIVES HIMSELF UP to be imprisoned.
this is plot relevant! remember it, because shen qingqiu only feels ashamed and guilty when he thinks he has wronged the people he loves!
on that note:
number eleven
Tumblr media
(this is when luo binghe is laying siege to qiong ding to recover sqq's stolen body and sqq, in the mushroom body, sees his sect siblings for the first time after five years)
number twelve, AKA THE ULTIMATE QUOTE
Tumblr media
"the one who placed first" YOU HEAR THAT? YUE QINGYUAN IS THE PERSON HE ADMIRES AND REVERES THE MOST. AND NOT BECAUSE HE LOVED SHEN QINGQIU, IT'S NOT AN ADMIRATION BORN OF A SELFISH FEELING. it's because yue qingyuan is The Protector. THE BLEEDING HEART. he admires his kindness, his self-sacrificing nature, and even if shen qingqiu doesn't know, this are traits they have in common.
number thirteen
siblings-coded exhibit 3: when your other little brother tattles on you to your older brother and you're planning revenge
Remaining seated, Yue Qingyuan looked at him. “A lot of nonsense you’ve stirred up these days,” he said mildly. “Are you done?” Yue Qingyuan had never assumed such a severe attitude when speaking to him before, even going so far as to use a word like “nonsense.” This was already the equivalent of a flogging. It seemed that Liu Qingge had badmouthed him quite thoroughly. Shen Qingqiu swore that one day he’d steal Cheng Luan and use it to chop all the pork hock in all the kitchens of the Twelve Peaks. He’d chop until the oily sheen smothered all its sword glares!
so yue qingyuan being mad at you feels like the equivalent of a flogging. i get you sqq. like when my mom or my brother are mad at me i really feel like crying. anyway. it's hilarious that sqq is planning on stealing chen luan because liu qingge allegedly tattled on him to yue qingyuan.
it's obvious that shen qingqiu recognizes yue qingyuan as a figure of authority in his life, he respects him and as i said before, he cares about what yue qingyuan thinks of him.
number fourteen
Tumblr media
we know that shen qingqiu's unconscious actions say a lot about him as a person, and the fact that he unconsciously took a step towards yue qingyuan speaks volumes. he's practically wavering between following yue qingyuan or staying with luo binghe.
this will not be the first time he hesitates to go with luo binghe on the face of yue qingyuan's request/order to stay with him. and in this case, he does stay with cang qiong because the situation has gotten pretty bad.
He didn’t know how long he could hold the others off, and he absolutely couldn’t abandon this mess of a situation and escape with Luo Binghe. Yue Qingyuan and Liu Qingge had been brazen with their show of bias, and Wu Wang was already furious. Either Shen Qingqiu or Luo Binghe had to stay behind, or open conflict would erupt between Zhao Hua Monastery and Cang Qiong Mountain.
yue qingyuan and liu qingge just protected him in front of everyone, so he chooses to stay with them. shen qingqiu is incredibly loyal to them, and most importantly, he doesn't want cang qiong mountain to get into trouble because of him.
this is as good a moment to remind you all that in a lot of instances cqm = yqy in shen qingqiu's mind. obviously there is also the other peak lords and the disciples, but this is important. it isn't just because yqy is the sect leader. yue qingyuan was the first martial sibling he met, the one that welcomed him to the world of pidw and the one that kept him company those first days post-transmigration.
+ bonus: siblings coded exhibit 4:
yqy, out loud so others hear: you're grounded also yqy, whispering: let's have dinner and watch a movie once we get home, what do you want for dessert?
Tumblr media
i can't stop laughing
+ bonus 2: parallelisms
(this moment is right after shen qingqiu has learned of shen jiu's past and woke up after being unconscious for 5 days)
When he next opened them, what filled his vision instead was a white bed curtain, its corners decorated with tassels. At the sudden change in scenery, Shen Qingqiu froze in place, surprised and unable to react—at least not before he heard Yue Qingyuan’s voice beside him. “Awake?” Shen Qingqiu mechanically blinked a couple times. His throat felt a bit dry, but he forced out his voice. “Zhangmen-shixiong.” (...) Shen Qingqiu awkwardly sat up. Suddenly, he thought this scene was a little familiar. The first time he’d woken in this world, Yue Qingyuan had also been at his bedside, watching over him.
number fifteen
Tumblr media
so shen qingqiu knows he can get away with disobeying yue qingyuan and doing whatever he wants because yqy will forgive him anyway, and yet he chooses to respect yqy's decision and authority. of course he'll later convince yue qingyuan that he should allow him to go, like he's done many times before, but he won't deliberately disobey his zhangmen-shixiong.
so later, when they're on their way to maigu ridge, he tries to convince yqy that he must go with them. this is when yue qingyuan gets THIS CLOSE to locking him up in qiong ding hall.
Tumblr media
now this is officially the only time yue qingyuan has done something remotely yandere-y adjacent. and not without reason! shen qingqiu died by self-detonation, then he returned after 5 years, then he was taken by a demon emperor, then he spent 5 days unconscious etc etc. he's admittedly very worried that shen qingqiu will die on him again, this time without a miraculous return. and the best thing? shen qingqiu doesn't know what to do. he didn't know whether to reach with his sword or not, whether to fight yue qingyuan on this or not. he wants to listen to yue qingyuan, but he also wants to go save the world.
Tumblr media
and EVEN when he's finally allowed to go to Luo River, he hesitates again when he notices yue qingyuan may be struggling!
number sixteen
the reveal at maigu ridge's scene is really long, quoting it all would be a complete nightmare. so i'll just tell you to go read it because it reiterates some of the things i've already pointed out:
-shen qingqiu worrying about yue qingyuan
Thinking he was fine, Shen Qingqiu let go, but once he did, Yue Qingyuan didn’t remain standing for long before he unexpectedly collapsed again. Shen Qingqiu blanched with shock, then hurried to help him up again. “Zhangmen-shixiong? Zhangmen-shixiong?” After a brief examination, even with his superficial medical knowledge, he could tell that Yue Qingyuan’s current condition was horrible.
-shen qingqiu feeling guilty for causing yue qingyuan trouble
Tumblr media
-shen qingqiu almost crying because of qijiu's tragic story and because it breaks his heart seeing yue qingyuan like this
Tumblr media
number seventeen
Tumblr media
i pointed out earlier that shen qingqiu idolizes yue qingyuan, and this is the first time he sees him so weak, which understandably makes him panic a lot. shen qingqiu thinks yue qingyuan is being talkative because he's dying, but shen qingqiu is having none of it
Tumblr media
sobs shen qingqiu is so desperate to keep him alive.
Tumblr media
+ bonus 3: yet again shen qingqiu's heart breaking for yue qingyuan
Tumblr media
number eighteen
shen qingqiu, post-maigu ridge, wakes up, and upon remembering that he'd left zhangmen-shixiong in a pretty bad situation, he runs out of the lingxi caves in a panic.
you don't know how much this scene makes me feel
like, the moment luo binghe is out of the picture, yue qingyuan's safety becomes his main worry
Tumblr media Tumblr media
then when he finally sees him, he's so happy that yqy is fine!
Tumblr media
number nineteen: the goodbye scene
But even though he was the sect leader, Yue Qingyuan didn’t go with them. Instead, he stood in place, silently staring at Shen Qingqiu. For some reason, it became comparatively more awkward. As if testing the waters, Yue Qingyuan said, “Xiao-Jiu…” “Shixiong,” said Shen Qingqiu, “it’s Qingqiu.” Even though it would be too difficult to tell Yue Qingyuan the truth, Shen Qingqiu still hoped he could demonstrate the difference in other ways. Yue Qingyuan was stunned for a bit, then gave a small smile. “It’s Qingqiu. Qingqiu-shidi.”
i think this is the first time they've ever been awkward with each other. shen qingqiu says it would be difficult to tell him the truth, whether because the system won't allow him or because it'd be emotionally stressful for him to do so we don't know; but he still wants to mark the difference between the original and himself anyway, because he doesn't want to deceive yue qingyuan.
“What are your plans for the future?” asked Yue Qingyuan. “I have no plans for the time being,” said Shen Qingqiu. “First I’ll wait for Luo Binghe to return and see how he’s doing.” Yue Qingyuan smiled. “You truly adore that disciple.” Shen Qingqiu was searching for a way to answer when Yue Qingyuan said, “Shidi, Cang Qiong Mountain will forever be a place to which you can return whenever you tire of wandering the outside world.” These words were said with utmost sincerity and solemnity. Yue Qingyuan had always been this way. Whatever he promised, he would definitely deliver. And what he couldn’t deliver, he would endeavor to make up for, no matter the cost.
after learning of his past, after all that's happened, shen qingqiu's admiration remains unwavering. their relationship has become more complicated on account of the ghost that haunts it, but if anything, shen qingqiu's feelings for yue qingyuan have only deepened with this new understanding.
After assuming the role of this novel character, Shen Qingqiu had always refused to become the scum villain from the original work. He’d drawn a clear boundary between them and taken great pride in walking the opposite path. So never before had he felt such a powerful and impulsive thought: If only he really were Shen Jiu. If only that person could really hear these words.
but his heart still breaks for yue qingyuan and shen jiu and what they have lost.
[Luo Binghe] stood utterly alone, without a single person beside him. When the people walking past saw his face, their own faces filled with all sorts of expressions. Shen Qingqiu involuntarily ran forward a couple of steps, then turned his head to look at the person behind him. “Go on,” said Yue Qingyuan. He stood behind Shen Qingqiu, silent and with good grace. It was as if one was the past and the other the future.
this is the last interaction between shen qingqiu and yue qingyuan in the main novel. before leaving with luo binghe, he turns back and silently asks for yue qingyuan's permission, his approval.
it's like getting your family's blessing before running off with your paramour.
this is yue qingyuan to shen qingqiu: the person that stood by his side from the moment he was reborn into the world of proud immortal demon way, the steadfast, strong and reliable older brother that gave him a family and a place to call his, that has fought for and defended him against all his enemies to the detriment of his own reputation. shen qingqiu respects, admires and will try to do what yue qingyuan says, because he's the only authority figure shen qingqiu recognizes in this life. even if yue qingyuan's care was born out of his feelings for shen jiu, shen qingqiu can't stop caring for him, being grateful for his presence and the comfort it gave him throughout all these years. even after learning the truth, his only regret is that he can't bring shen jiu back so yue qingyuan and him can get some closure.
that's love, my dudes.

still kind of insane to me that people talk shit about jiang cheng without fully understanding what he has been through so lets just understand what his mental state is like BEFORE canon begins:
born via a dysfunctional marriage to be the sect heir
father doesnt care for him, mother expects too much from him/everything he does is not enough
has his three dogs just kicked out randomly with no notice because of some kid he's never heard of by the father who never gave him love and/or attention
said father then favours this kid more than him, to the point that the entire world basically thinks that this kid is biologically your father's son as well, which causes even more family dysfunction
despite this still learns to love this kid as his unofficial brother
works his absolute hardest but is always second-best because his new shixiong is naturally talented
nobody appreciates the hard work he puts in at being second place despite the fact wwx literally doesnt work hard for it
masks his emotions with anger as a coping mechanism to minimise the amount of hurt he feels
ok great so now lets actually take all of the above and apply this mental wellbeing to canon events FROM HIS PERSPECTIVE (keep in mind this is literally what jc is seeing/experiencing because he DOESNT KNOW what the reader knows):
brother is off being the protagonist and getting in trouble and gets their sisters marriage ruined
comes home from a year away and then almost immediately has to go and be a hostage where brother continues his protagonist behaviour
gets trapped and nearly dies in a cave with a 400-year-old monster, is in charge of finding a way out and making sure everyone else escapes
brother and a guy who maybe hates him get stuck behind in the cave so now jiang cheng has to boost it home ON FOOT, without food, to get manpower to rescue them, which takes a minimum of a few days likely without any food or sleep
no appreciation or thanks for doing that since brother was more heroic and killed the 400-year-old monster
gets scolded by his father for being annoyed by this
parents immediately get into another fight about father loving wwx more than jc
because of the above shenanigans their sect is targeted next
tries to defend brother against being whipped to death and/or having his hand cut off by mother
witnesses his entire sect being burned and murdered
loses both his parents
decides to sacrifice himself to save his brother's life, instead of dying he is tortured and has his golden core melted
on top of his inferiority issues, the ONE THING he was expected to do was be the sect leader for the yunmeng jiang. the sect that no longer exists. he is now a sect leader with no sect and no golden core. no shit he wants to mcfuckin die
miraculously gets a new golden core but loses his brother
immediately plunged into a war and he's only like 17
spends 3 months trying to find his brother only for his brother to show up doing the Forbidden Magic and necromancy which is Super Disrespectful in their culture like holy shit what are you doing
brother refuses to use his sword in favour of the Forbidden Magics and kind of keeps undermining jc's orders as sect leader which makes jc look weak in front of all the other sect leaders when he's actively trying to rebuild their sect and be respected as a leader
fights a war for [handwaves] an amount of time, certainly a few years minimum, while watching his brother descend further into Unhealthy Behaviour but brother refuses to do anything or talk about it
ends up lowkey being a war hero
the other three great sects (of which there are now only four) swear brotherhood, leaving out ONLY ymj/jiang cheng, which, what the Fuck dude
is now a teenager who has lost his parents who now has to rebuild his sect from scratch with fuck all money, supplies, and support
brother, who promised to always be at his side helping, is not helping, and in fact is actively just getting drunk and being a nuisance and STILL REFUSING TO SAY WHY
entire cultivation world starts to turn on his brother who is now looking like a loose cannon bc he has Forbidden Magics that are Terrifyingly Powerful and also it has been proven that he does not give a fuck about jc's opinion since he's constantly doing whatever the fuck he wants
literally out of nowhere said brother decides to piss off everyone, start fights, and then KILL JIN GUARDS at a camp and MAKE OFF with like fifty people who are part of the family that he just fought a war against and were responsible for slaughtering his family/sect
go to the terrifying haunted mountain where wwx and the wen remnants are and sees that he's essentially starting a new family with a kid and crops, doesn't seem to care that jiang cheng is still trying to keep the ymj afloat and look like they have any strength
brother is still doing Forbidden Magic and refuses to explain why, and now says he'll secede from the ymj so his bad reputation doesn't reflect on jc like he HASNT BEEN DOING THAT THE WHOLE TIME
so now shixiong wants to just abandon jc completely after jc has lost his parents, had to rebuild everything from scratch, while ignoring the promise he's made their whole life? ok fuck you
jc also can't defend him in public because that would turn the ymj into a target and please keep in mind he is a teenager who was expected to do this ONE THING by his parents and he has poured his heart and soul and blood and tears into rebuilding the ymj and they are So Vulnerable Right Now
uhhh what the fuck suddenly wwx kills their sister's husband ?? bro what the FUCK?
everyone rallies to go and attack wwx for this and again jc literally cant do anything about it and refusing to go will just make everyone assume he's on wwx's side and their sect can't afford to be attacked rn
bro what the fuck now THEIR SISTER IS DEAD?????
oh even better now said brother is DEAD
jiang cheng literally has NO ONE LEFT. no friends. no family. no parents, no siblings, everyone he knew growing up is dead. its literally just him and his infant nephew, who by the way, is living with the sect who are the most powerful and also most likely to be super fucking shady so jc has to tread very carefully
so jc spends over a decade raising his nephew ALONE while trying to make ymj powerful and also hunting/killing demonic cultivators that now p much only exist bc his brother invented/popularised the technique
oh yeah and also this whole time the guy who maybe hated his brother is now like EVEN colder and more antagonistic towards jc like it was HIS FAULT that wwx is dead? get fucked lan wangji you didnt even like the guy (or if this is cql/untamed canon: you literally did nothing either so where do you get off on acting like you're better than jc)
over a decade passes and suddenly his dead brother is alive again and causing more problems and acting like the things he did were not major contributors towards jc's entire family and sect dying
More Political Drama Happens and jc has to manage it
suddenly its revealed that the guy he's been co-raising his nephew with is the major villain who caused the entire world to turn on wwx in the first place oh and also it turns out that the fucking miraculous core jc has IS HIS BROTHER'S, WHO NEVER SAID ANYTHING, AND THIS IS THE REASON HE STARTED THE FORBIDDEN MAGICS AND STOPPED HELPING AROUND THE SECT, but he didnt even BOTHER to tell jiang cheng about it
by the way did i mention this was done via an entirely unconsented experimental surgery
and now the brother of the doctor who did the unconsented experimental surgery is ?? mad at jiang cheng about it ???? like he was supposed to KNOW ABOUT THIS when wwx was KEEPING IT FROM HIM ON PURPOSE???
and now theyre all nearly dying in this dumbass temple - and the ONE family member jc still has is literally being threatened with a garotte
oh cool now jc's brother is saying forget the past let's just leave it all behind !!! as though THAT ISNT JC'S ENTIRE LIFE AND TRAUMA and the ONE THING he EVER wanted was for him, wwx, and jyl to be alive and happy, and now wwx is saying just forget it! like FUCK YOU???? does jc truly mean NOTHING???????
oh and now his brother is off gallivanting with the guy who hated him - who it turns out doesn't hate him - and now they're getting married
and jiang cheng is meant to just. pretend all of this never happened and live his life normally. while wwx is out there. being happy and married.
like... if you can read all of this and still treat jc like he's the bad guy, i'm sorry, but you have literally zero empathy. dude had it probably more rough than any of the other main ensemble cast, and i am including jgy in that, because jgy Made His Choices. jc literally just had to let things happen around him helplessly

Good morning, I bring you another very nonsense SVSSS idea today.
Shen Yuan transmigrates as Shen Jiu's shizun. He has a System, but it really doesn't interfere with anything because what would it even do when Luo Binghe's parents haven't even met yet? Su Xiyan hasn't even been born yet.
So Shen Yuan has several really cool centuries to be the immortal master he really wants to be! Since nothing he has done affects the plot, he spends a lot of that time ignoring his disciples (he figures out in the first few decades that teaching is primarily the job of the hallmasters) and focusing on sightseeing and learning all about the flora and fauna of his least favorite webnovel world. He's considered a fine person, kind when he remembers to be present in the moment, but usually detached from worldly matters, which is not a bad thing for an immortal master pushing his fifteenth century to be, but it's to his detriment in some ways: he is both noble-born and beyond mortal weakness. Some of his modern sensibilities have definitely faded after such a long life in this world and by spending much of that time in the company of his nearly indestructible martial siblings. He's a master who does not wield the whip himself, but orders punishment with the ignorance of someone who has forgotten that to people who don't have more than a thousand years of cultivation, the whip does far more than 'sting a little'.
He still tries to speak up about that whole matter with the boy and the sword and the cave. He knows a plant that could help the boy without all this breaking-every-bone nonsense, but that's the first time his System intervenes and stops him. He assumes the kid would have been someone who could have opposed Luo Binghe eventually so he's fated to die instead and lets the matter go. If anything, he's more excited that the System finally made a move, because that means they are nearing the time when Luo Binghe will appear! He doesn't follow the incident and he's daydreaming about a rare beast he discovered on his latest trip when his shixiong announces the appointment of his succeeding disciple, so he completely misses that Yue Qingyuan survived the cave.
During the fated Immortal Alliance Conference he's too busy checking on his own disciples to be of any help in resolving the incident with Shen Jiu, so the sect leader (who is getting really tired of how unreliable his 'sect strategist' is) dumps the semi-feral orphan on his peak as punishment. Shidi likes wild creatures, right? Here's a wild creature for you, have fun making a man out of him.
Shen Yuan doesn't make the connection between Shen Jiu, prickly street kid, and Shen Qingqiu, peerless immortal with a rotten personality, because he falls into the group of readers who assumed Shen Qingqiu was a noble young master. Shen is a pretty common name, after all. He gives the kid some remedial lessons - in reading, writing, etiquette, the arts, etc. - gives him some encouraging words and then leaves the kid to his own devices once it's clear that he doesn't need coddling. He's a tough cookie who can handle himself and besides, the good-natured head disciple from Qiong Ding keeps coming over to check on him, so he already has other support! His shizun hovering over him and favoring him too much would just make him a target and this kid has gone too through much already for him to do that to him.
They hear the first rumors about Tianlang-jun around the time when his shixiong finally starts to bully him about picking a new head disciple, so Shen Yuan makes a timeline in his head: if Tianlang-jun is really doing the part of sightseeing young master in the human world (which Shen Yuan has personally confirmed) then it should take him a few decades to grow bored of it all, sour on the experience and then go and do the attempted world-conquering he gets mountained for. So he should have at least fifty more years before he has to worry about that nonsense, right?
There's still no sign of young master Shen on his peak (goddamn master Airplane, was Shen Qingqiu really so young during PIDW?! A cultivator under a hundred should not be given a position of authority like that, they are barely an adult! The other future peak lords keep popping up around the sect already, so no wonder he was so paranoid of his position, being decades younger than everyone!!) so he promotes his no-longer-openly-feral Shen Jiu as head disciple in the meantime, because that kid is an overachiever like no other and by far the most competent of his disciples.
Then, in the blink of an eye, he is prompted to give Shen Jiu a courtesy name as his succeeding disciple (how did this happen?! This much-abused feral cat is not the one who should be here, System!!).
And the System finally gives him an order he can't refuse: Shen Jiu is to be named Shen Qingqiu. It all starts to break apart at that moment, his leisure and detachment coming back to bite him where it hurts the most.
Shen Yuan announces the name and watches as his head disciple's eyes flash with hurt and betrayal before his mask slots back in place (he never bothered to investigate deeper into Shen Jiu's past than what the boy shared willingly, but now he goes digging. He traces Wu Yanzi's tracks, interviewing ghosts along the way until he reaches the ruins of the Qiu residence and learns of the horrors that went down there. Please forgive your master, A-Jiu! He did not mean to saddle you with the name of your abusers!).
He tries, in those last few, desperate years to be better for the future scum villain, but it feels like it's too late already (the immortal master came back to earth from his unreachable cloud, but it's too little too late). Shen Qingqiu doesn't trust him, he doesn't trust anyone except himself (Shen Yuan is the greatest expert of beasts in the world and he can see the marks of a cornered, crippled tiger in every move Shen Qingqiu makes. His head disciple is angry and terrified and it's his fault that he never helped to make it better.) his relationship with his martial siblings is horrible and he has learned all the wrong lessons from his time on the mountain (because Shen Yuan, spoiled and absent, failed to teach him better).
Shen Yuan watches helplessly as things spiral out of his control (he knows Tianlang-jun couldn't possibly have wanted to conquer anything yet, but his System shuts him up when he wants to speak. He's the one who creates the array, he's the one who puts the final nail in the coffin of a man and his beloved, all for the crime of loving the wrong person). His shixiong gets severely wounded in the fight and they arrange a very hasty ascension before he could perish from his injuries.
He hopes that ascension would make things easier to bear. He has waited for so long, planned to lean back and enjoy PIDW from a front row seat after a life spent playing his part to perfection.
It's so much worse than he could have ever imagined. The System plays one last joke on him and appoints him god of secrets, so he gets to see everything that goes on in the sect. He's already familiar with Luo Binghe's PoV from PIDW, but now he gets to see Yue Qingyuan (clutching his sword and drinking down potions to dull the pain of his ruined body with every meal, screaming himself hoarse for Shen Jiu every night in his nightmares) and Shang Qinghua (walking the high wire of terror and overwork, System window hovering over him with threats of death if he so much as twitches wrong) and Shen Qingqiu, always Shen Qingqiu who keeps spiraling into bitter cruelty with every mocking word he pretends to ignore, every impassable bottleneck and almost-fatal qi-deviation.
When Shen Qingqiu almost succumbs to one of his deviations that leaves him unconscious with a high fever for days he finally breaks and begs the System to let him do something. Shen Qingqiu has grown up to be exactly the kind of scum he was in the story, but for all that he wants to smack him every time he does something shitty, Shen Yuan has grown to care for his horrible, almost-feral tiger of a disciple. He doesn't want him to live the fate of the scum villain, but as a god he's not allowed to act. He will do anything, System! Anything!!!
The next thing he knows, he wakes up as Shen Qingqiu. It's his chance to change fate for the better, but if Shen Yuan is in the body, then where is Shen Jiu??? His soul is in storage and the System will magnanimously allow him to buy him back to life and give him a second chance for all the B-points he amassed over his long life. It's a choice between getting Shen Jiu back or keeping the points as an emergency save that would allow him to return to his previous role if things go wrong.
It's hardly a difficult choice, isn't it?

straight and thumping on the ground impatiently. fast rhythm beat with 0.95-second intervals.
—and with that crease between his eyebrows, pout so evident in his lips, eyes boring through the side of your head. there’s no need to turn front to see the literal dragon of mount hua is displeased at the slow pace of his order shīzitóu. it’s not like you can afford to flat-out be rude to the half-huili jing server eagerly asking for more affirmations about their restaurant’s food. goodness, you’re not chung myung…
“the sauce? is it sweet enough? or perhaps you like it sticky…” the half huili jing server’s voice lowered in a purr. “..daozhang?”
you’re about to correct the server when a sarcastic, gruff voice enters the conversation. “no, they don’t like sweets that much and they prefer thin consistency sauce to sticky.”
speaking of, your companion finally spoke up. the entire time chung myung is either grunting or clicking his tongue to respond as you put out the orders on the menu. you wanted to let out a heavy sigh but held it in. he spoke up but at what cost?
chung myung tapped his palm on the table a little bit too hard. “put the shīzitóu down. that’s what i ordered.”
faced with the natural hierarchy’s top one, how could a huili jing fight against a dragon? even more to a half huili jing? with a graceful movement, the half huili jing set out the tray full of appetizing meals rich in different flavours and seasonings.
the silence was too loud despite the busy chatter heard outside the private room and so, once the sulky half huili jing strolled away, you picked up the chopstick, ready to eat. that’s how you and chung myung spent the rest of the evening with occasional banters, two unfilled cups holding beads of alcohol, and an abandoned bottle of peach baijiu in the side.
moves languidly
the elders and the youths alike have watched a certain senior-junior pair dance around with each other. be it when they are younger than they are now—the plum blossoms in winter’s seasonal bloom and summer’s jovial heat sighing at the young man finding himself to get the point across and you dodging every little thing almost nil. the terrified junior brothers betting on who will try to make a move first.
so far the winning score is on those who placed bets on chung myung’s side…
a group of junior brothers set aside their lunch once they saw the two together with the taller one carrying a box with decorative materials for the spring festival and the other having a ladder.
you propped the ladder to the wall and started climbing on it while chung myung set the box down.
“will the elder make a move?”
“shush.”
“come on, shixiong. he is right. how about we bet if the elder makes a move on them this time?” junior brother lu nodded to the oblivious pair. he pushed his lunch forward, “i’ll bet my lunch set a, elder chung myung will make a move.”
junior brother ming, the shixiong, responded dryly. “i’ll bet mine he will not.”
“i’m with brother lu!”
“shixiong, you can’t possibly think elder will not when you also saw him–”
“watch.”
“huh?” instinctively, junior brother lu inclined his head just to see you playing with the ends of the red lantern for the spring festival, let it brush to your senior’s nose as chung myung sneezed. sending you a harmless glare as you laugh loudly. elder chung myung may be directing witty remarks to you but this little junior brother lu can see the tail of the elder languidly swishing behind him.
he sighs and thinks, elder chung myung is almost never too honest and yet his tail is saying otherwise.
wiggles in excitement
a new series of tomorrow awaits as the booming fireworks line up to the dark skies, below were the firecrackers noisy and frizzled. the sect adorned in red lanterns and spring couplets can be seen hanging on the doors. the disciples of mount hua gather all around in different places; some are in the dining hall, some are burning bamboo sticks and firecrackers, laughter fills up the festive mood, and some are watching the abundant glowing light flutters seen above to the lowered ground.
a single stick fell out from the fortune shaker.
you stare at it, losing interest in picking it up as each second passes by until the black-clad swordsman nudges you with his shoulder in a bump, snickering. “will you look at that.”
you can’t believe the gods had decided to be mean to you on the eve of the spring festival. the harmonious atmosphere feels like mocking you as the fortune stick reads ‘misfortune.’
then you shove the stick back into the cylinder, shake it violently, a stick falls out and you’re miniscule away throwing away the damn fortune shaker. tsk, should’ve known it’s a sham.
chung myung clutches his stomach from too much hysterical fits as he then grabs one of your hands that was choking the cylinder. surprised at his gentle touch, chung myung easily slides his fingers between the gaps of yours as his stare pins at you with a gaze swirling playful pink billows, night light kissed skin. suddenly, peering up into him through the shadows settled by the moon feels intimate as the two of you sit on the rooftop.
“there,” he whispered. “i’m sharing half of my great fortune with you.”
you swallowed thickly, wanting to squeeze your heart to shut up.
a comical exclaim escapes out of you, shiny eyes admiring him, “gege!”
chung myung reacts to your address with a sudden burst of triumph. his tail wags frantically, displaying his excitement. hearing you calling him 'gege' has clearly delighted him, and he seems eager to engage whatever his mind is scheming.

RE: other anon talking about western fans' need to attribute danmei tropes to mxtx.
A lot of it feels like a common symptom of "baby's first x" wherein these fans don't have much exposure to wuxia or xianxia outside of danmei, and MXTX is the most popular danmei author in the west right now as danmei slowly grows more popular in the west (for better or worse... but definitely worse imo). It became more apparent when I saw someone say they believed Meatbun copied MXTX because of the common tropes in Erha and SVSSS. However, there are a lot of stories like this in the genre where a disciple pines over their deceased shizun (or shixiong or shijie in baihe) and the older character in the pairing bottoms. Even with just that description, someone could be talking about Erha, SVSSS, Everyday the Protagonist Wants to Capture Me, The Daily Task of Preventing My Disciple from Turning to the Dark Side, Poison of the Human Panacea, Mistakenly Saving the Villain, or My White Lotus Master Wants To Be A Villain. But that's literally the trope! It's an inversion of generational power/hierarchal dynamics between the characters and historical settings. Hence, shizun/shixiong/shijie always bottoms. This is something Chinese fans always know going into it, and in cases where shizun/shixiong/shijie don't bottom it gets shocked reactions from readers. This is just one example, but there are, similarly, set rules or tropes in place in western romances, too. Ideally these new fans would be quiet and lurk while reading more stories and building more knowledge of the genre conventions, but for whatever reason (ethnocentrism) they don't.
--
Don't worry! People are absolute morons about "X copied Y!" for Western media as well, right up to and including "Wow, that sounds like the plot of my favorite movie" when someone describes whatever historical novel their favorite movie is a retelling of.
People are just very, very dumb, I am sorry to say.
Also, that trope is the best. :D :D :D

Hi!!! I’d love to hear about Ming Fan :)
hahahahaha well you already know! But it's true we did talk about two Ming Fan fics.
This one has 6,000 words. I doubt I will have the patience to finish it, even though Tarnished Gold by prim_the_amazing made me want 30,000 other fics like it.
In this fic, Shen Yuan does not transmigrate into Shen Qingqiu's body. He instead transmigrates into Ming Fan's body, about 9 months before Shen Qingqiu is due to toss Luo Binghe into the Endless Abyss.
Here's a short excerpt that I think basically demonstrates the premise. The opening of the fic is that LBH is being tortured in the woodshed as a result of Ming Fan's bullying. When LBH gets out he hears that Ming Fan has fallen ill. He doesn't exactly care.
A few warnings: there's bullying, violent thought, and a number of OCs in this excerpt. Also, the narration is unkind to Ning Yingying--this is because LBH likes her well enough but doesn't really understand her behavior. The idea is that Shen Yuan would eventually shed light for Luo Binghe on why she does what she does, making her a far more relatable and comprehensible character for the reader. (And as in canon, NYY having someone around who treats her like an adult also helps NYY herself grow and change).
A week later, Ning Yingying came to visit while Luo Binghe mucked out the horses’ stalls. “Did you hear? Ming-shixiong is doing much better,” she remarked, sitting on a bale of hay, watching as he worked.
Ning Yingying never helped with the additional tasks always assigned to Luo Binghe. She’d tried to a few times in early days. She’d been reprimanded for it and Luo Binghe punished, though Luo Binghe being punished never seemed like a strong deterrent to her. At first, Luo Binghe had thought that she didn’t realize that they liked her, and that was why she also didn’t realize that evidence that she liked him resulted in hardship upon him. Gradually, he came to see that she just didn’t notice that her behavior could really have an effect on anyone who wasn’t her.
Once he asked her not to help him with the chores, she gave in easily. She really hadn’t liked doing them anyway.
When Luo Binghe said nothing, Ning Yingying went on. “They say he suffered memory loss as a result of the illness. Even some of his cultivation technique!”
Luo Binghe shoveled more of the dung into the wheeled cart. He had heard the same thing, but it didn’t really concern him much. Ming Fan’s cultivation had never been strong to begin with, even though his spiritual cultivation was still much stronger than Luo Binghe’s. It didn’t matter. Luo Binghe’s demonic cultivation, under the tutelage of Ming Mo, had already made him more powerful than Ming Fan would ever be.
“I’ve heard he’s been practicing with the little ones to relearn it,” Ning Yingying went on. “Shu-shimei, Mu-shimei, even San-shidi. He’s only twelve! Have you ever heard Ming-shixiong even speak to them?”
Ming Fan should have been speaking to them. He was Head Disciple, and Shu Mingxia, Mu Bailong, and San Nianzhou were Ming Fan’s youngest martial siblings. Ming Fan’s duty was to ensure that they were well tutored, but of course, Ming Fan had never done anything of the sort with Luo Binghe. He shoveled up another pile of dung.
“I just think it’s interesting,” Ning Yingying said, when Luo Binghe still didn’t reply.
“What’s interesting?” said a voice.
Luo Binghe paused, then slowly turned around.
Huo Yuhan, one of Ming Fan’s gang, stood in the doorway of the stables, flanked by two others. During Ming Fan’s illness, Huo Yuhan and these other two had carried on the thankless yet necessary task of insulting Luo Binghe, pranking him, assigning him extra work, and making sure he didn’t have enough to eat. “I said, what’s interesting?” Huo Yuhan demanded, swaggering into the stable. “Is it how much shit Luo-shidi can shovel? Because I’m interested in him shoveling more.”
“Huo-shixiong,” was all Luo Binghe said. He rested his hand casually around the handle of the shovel, imagining bashing it into Huo Yuhan’s head—but he already knew he wouldn’t do it. Patience, Meng Mo had counseled. The boys would rough him up. Ning Yingying would protest, and Luo Binghe would let them. Then he would go back to shoveling shit.
“Maybe it’s interesting whether you’re good for anything else,” Huo Yuhan said. “Tell me, Shidi, are you good for anything but shoveling shit? Maybe eating shit?”
“Huo-shidi,” said a quiet voice.
Luo Binghe shifted his eyes behind the trio, who all turned to look at the stable door entrance. Ming Fan stood there, looking a little pale. His mouth was a flat line.
Meanwhile, Huo Yuhan’s face broke into a wide grin. “Ming-shixiong! So glad you’re here. I was just asking Luo-shidi whether he wanted to eat shit. What do you think?”
“Shizun wants you.” Ming Fan’s eyes fell on the other two disciples flanking Huo Yuhan. “You as well.”
“What? What for?”
Ming Fan gave a slight shake of his head. “He didn’t say.”
“Well, fine,” said Huo Yuhan. “We can tell him how badly Luo-shidi is slacking.”
“Right,” said Fu Xuefeng, one of the other lackeys. “He’s barely shoveled anything.”
“You’re the ones who interrupted him,” Ning Yingying said irritably.
“We’ll tell him you said so.” Fu Xuefeng smirked, knowing that any time Shen Qingqiu heard about Ning Yingying defending Luo Binghe, the punishment doubled.
Luo Binghe kept his silence, hand still on the shovel.
“Why would we bother Shizun with reports about dung?” Ming Fan’s eyes were fixed calmly on the trio, as though Luo Binghe wasn’t even there. “I’m sure it’s beneath his notice.”
Huo Yuhan began, “But Luo-shidi hasn’t—”
“It’s beneath his notice,” Ming Fan said firmly. “Come along.” Ming Fan waited at the door until the other three had filed out, then turned and left.
He hadn’t looked at Luo Binghe once. He hadn’t looked at Ning Yingying either, which was far more strange. Ming Fan usually never passed up an opportunity to ridicule Luo Binghe, but perhaps Ming Fan had decided ignoring Luo Binghe and calling him beneath Shen Qingqiu’s notice was ridicule enough. But Luo Binghe couldn’t remember a time when Ming Fan hadn’t looked for an opportunity to ingratiate himself with Ning Yingying, even despite all these years of her disinterest. Did he think that acting like he was too good to care about dung shoveling was going to impress her somehow?
“Like I said,” Ning Yingying, tossing aside a piece of hay she’d been playing with. “It’s very interesting.”

I love the pics where JC/wangxian get sex-pollened and dual cultivation is the only way out. Love every single of these.
However, an idea struck today xD
Say, the thing happens, sex pollen threatens their lives and they have to fuck and JC agrees to it reluctantly. He doesn't want to die so may as well let the Second Jade fuck him - it's a marginally better option than ungraceful death-_-
Except, the sex is so bad.
So. Bad.
Jiang Cheng lays there, forced to take it, gritting his teeth and questioning his choices. It can be, can it? Lan Zhan has been very openly in a physical relationship with Wei Wuxian for five years now. They apparently fuck all the time, if Lan Xichen's stilted complaints are anything to go by. So how is Wangji so bad at it??? Is it because he hates Jiang Cheng and doesn't care to make it good? Well, fuck him then-_-
But no. Because when Wei Wuxian's turn comes, it's still... not good.
Jiang Cheng sits there, aching and exhausted, and cannot stop looking, because he's concerned. They are going at it like a pair of blind monkeys. Is this what they think sex is??? It looks painful (and it is).
He leaves, full of concern and frustration.
When his father left him in a care of the expensive courtesan right after JC's sixteen birthday, it was completely different. He was nervous and embarrassed, but the jiejie was very patient and inviting, and they've spent a very nice afternoon as she taught him what to do on his wedding night. To his initial mortification, the lesson included *gulp* anal sex.
"In case future Jiang-Furen wishes to take a ride on your pillar without being distracted by possible consequences." She told him with a sneaky wink.
She seemed satisfied with his performance and, well, pleased, throughout. And he found the act quite pleasurable, if a bit scandalous (and doubly exciting because of that).
It cannot be that different when it's men, can it?
Can it?
Wei Wuxian, at least, was an avid reader of Huaisang's spring books, he should know the basics at least!
Except... well, father never took him to the Wisteria House - mother would openly murder both of them if that happened. And, as much as he flirted and chased girls, Jiang Cheng knew his shixiong was too busy with training and pranks, and never actually had a girl.
And Lan Wangji had the personality and charm of a tree stump, and he was famously in love with Wei Wuxian since they were boys.
Could it be that they were both goddamn virgins when they came together? Could it be they didn't know that sex was supposed to be better? Was this as far as their imagination went???
Jiang Cheng himself wasn't a regular customer of brothels and his libido was quite low, but even he knew your ass shouldn't ache for days after (and wasn't that a fun and humiliating experience in trying to heal that part of his body?). Lady Li very patiently explained to him how to ensure his future wife will leave their bed sated and relaxed.
He shouldn't care, really, what business of his was how Wei Wuxian and his husband fucked? He'd rather not think about it.
...But he was thinking about it. And it wasn't giving him peace!
Thus, after two weeks with very little sleep and a lot of punching things, Jiang Cheng found himself in the Wisteria House, asking to see their best male courtesan with the intention of asking some very embarrassing questions.

Now that I’m thinking about it.
How is Shen jiu like with reader.
And if we were Luo bingge “Moral pet” who died, what would he do if he met us in another universe where we are alive?
everyone needs an owner
♡ unhealthy behaviour, mention of tortures, mention of death, mention of killing, forced relationship if you squint; 'shixiong' for reader
Tumblr media
I used 'morality pet', but you are rather closer to 'morality chain', especially if you stay after LUO BINGHE returns from the Abyss and you are literally the only thing that keeps him sane and trying to be a good person, even if he is a half-demon, — only to find out with shock and horror that you are dead.
this is definitely what is the final trigger for his darkening and first the brutal torture and murder of all who caused your death — and then the complete rejection of any 'humanity'which he could have had. the only one who loved him and cared about him — and only that he didn't even have your body?
only for him to come back and find out that the love of his life is dead?
then what's the point of being 'good' if he can't even deal with those who led you to death?
all those who could not save you deserve only death.
... if Shen Qingqiu hadn't thrown him into the Abyss, you would have lived. he would have saved you. he would sacrifice his reputation, his cultivation, his life, but he would save you. you would be alive. you would be with him.
If he had stayed, you would never have left him.
you were always worried that LUO BINGHE felt inferior when Shen Qingqiu was strangely favoritist towards you, — even if he asked you no less, — but LUO BINGHE never considered it 'strange' or unfair. as long as you let him wander after you, always petted, brought food, gently asking what he wants to do and always hugging him tightly, letting him know that you will always be there and are sure that he will become a great cultivator and person, he didn't dare complain about anything. he liked to take care of you and please you like your servant, and always tried to be there, blooming like a flower after he was given water when your gaze touched him.
even if Shen Qingqiu took up too much of your time, as if not realizing that you were not a river, but his source, he could only bare his fangs and growl, but retreat, allowing everything to happen, having nothing to the extent to hinder, even if your smile, which would only be for him, would be enough for him to give his life for you with pleasure.
you were everything he could never have been, even if he tried; his everything. nobody else's. it doesn't matter 'what kind of relationship you have with Shizun', especially when various rumors begin to creep — LUO BINGHE wants to dig into everyone's throat with his fangs and tear them apart, but Shen Qingqiu copes with especially talkative much faster and easier when there are fewer and fewer of them at the peak.
at least in some ways their interests are similar.
he kills him much faster, even without torture, although he could have torn out his hands, gouged out his eyes and cut out his tongue — but for the first time in his heart, cold mixes with flame, giving his, no, your former Shizun a peaceful death. his heart beats neither faster nor slower when Shen Qingqiu dies before his eyes, even if something inside him should feel relief at the thought that his abuser is dead — but what's the point if you, his most important person, don't come to life?
LUO BINGHE would kill everyone if it revived you, he would make the whole world speak the language of blades — but what's the point if you're not with him?
... his demonic nature, fed by cold calculating hatred and a passionate thirst for what he cannot get, turns out to be much easier to tame than he thought — 'shidi, you will become a great cultivator' he fulfilled your words, right? — especially when Xin Mo lies as if poured into his palm, having found the perfect balance between two facets, where your image still remains the most painful and the most joyful in his life, even if you have always sought to be an example for him and a support, finding something in the brilliance of his eyes and a statuesque figure, always descending to reach out to him like no one before, like a phoenix that soared into the sky only to land on his shoulder, or a dragon floating in the water column, but swimming aground for him.
how could he not adore you?
his fate was sealed from the first meeting.
Xin Mo responds with a vibration when Luo Binghe touches it.
... you are so magnificent — in the form of a disciple of the peak, which LUO BINGHE himself destroyed in the past; with your hair in a hairstyle that he always wanted to let down and see how you look when relaxed; with a light gait, characteristic of each member of the peak, known for its silence and the absence of any sounds at all except those places that were fenced with a barrier like training grounds, and your beautiful subtle smile that he always saw on your face, even if you weren't smiling. everything about you was breathtaking and filled with grace and grandeur, even if you were just walking or eating; after all, it was not for nothing that you walked all the way with him, and would definitely have reached the very end if he had protected you. he will definitely protect you.
Xin Mo in his hand is thirsty for blood, feeling what the person he so desperately craves is so close and far away, so tantalizingly far away that LUO BINGHE has to dig his nails into his skin so as not to pounce and take you with him, seeing you sitting alone in a bamboo forest, enjoying moments of peace, without suspecting anything.
LUO BINGHE has nothing to do — what can he do? grab you? convince you to leave? what does he want to do? you... you were always there for him at such moments when he was thinking about such things, feeling how you tried to help him understand his desires — and even after you died, he always touched your little thing with him, as if looking for an answer from you, leaving the feeling that you are still here, with him.
“... Shidi?”
The old form is unusual for the body, even reduced, and his attempt to hide the demonic mark is also silly in its own way — but he cannot hide the sweet smile that breaks through the shy expression of his face, although his eyes burn with adoration.
“Yes, my shixiong? Did my shixiong call this shidi? Can this shidi help my shixiong?”
Killing the current LUO BINGHE is easier than simple — as well as taking his place, approaching you with timid but hungry steps, as if not a 'little naive lamb', but a stalking predator who is just waiting for the opportunity when you relax enough to grab your throat with his teeth. Even if you don't see the difference, you feel it, looking at his happy rosy face, delicate thin strong figure, the shine of adoring eyes and a slight tremor that LUO BINGHE tries to hide as he comes closer, as if trying to control himself.
“My shixiong... yo– this shidi... can?”
The excitement in his voice is both so familiar and unfamiliar that you just shake your head, pointing to a place nearby.
“Just sit next to me. Get some rest. You've been working a lot lately.”
You've noticed that he's been working a lot lately.
A tremor runs through his body so large that he can only nod thoughtlessly, sitting closer, letting a few more drops fall to the ground.
Now he is much, many times stronger than you and even Shizun, but when you caress him for a good job, he wants to reveal himself so much and beg you to go with him, even if he knows that he can't.
Can he get a 'good boy' from you if he behaves ethically manipulative enough?
You're alive. You are healthy. He hears your breathing, your movements.
He wants to kiss you so badly.
He even feels the warmth of your body, your smell, the way your blood circulates in your body.
He wants so badly to mix your blood with his.
And the way your chest rises while you sit in silence.
You are so perfect. You don't need anyone but him.
He's finally going to be a good person. Just for you.
You are the only thing that matters.
He won't give you up to anyone or anything.
“My shixiong... would you like to have some tea?”

Poll 20 - Round 1
Yue Qingyuan:
Tumblr media
"This is a transmigration novel, and both the readers and the main character don't know for a while about this character's backstory. (Said backstory involves a young Qi-ge acting as a big brother figure to a group of slaves, including the person the main character eventually transmigrated into.) Despite not knowing this, the MC's first impression of seeing Yue Qingyuan in person instead of in a book is that he's the "amicable looking elder brother type." In addition, he's the elder brother to his generation of martial siblings (their Zhangmen-shixiong/sect leader-senior martial brother)."

Fit for Purpose Deleted Scenes IV: Rut
Today's deleted scenes from Fit for Purpose deal with the question of LWJ's rut/a beta's ability to satisfy a rut or heat in general in this universe - a question to which I gave waaaaaay too much thought haha. Other deleted scenes posts are linked in the masterpost. NSFW text. I hope you enjoy!
Okay, so. WWX says several times during Fit for Purpose that, as a beta, he can’t satisfy an alpha’s rut or an omega’s heat. It’s not clear in the story whether that is literal, i.e., there’s a biological incompatibility, or just societal, i.e., “can’t” because it would be scandalous or otherwise transgress social norms. Originally, I figured it would be the latter, which gave rise to this scene:
“It’s kind of too bad you can’t take my rut,” the bold girl says, afterward. She’s breathing hard, still. Sweat gleams in the valley between her breasts. “You’re so good at that, da-shixiong.”
Wei Wuxian props himself up on his elbow. He’s eighteen now, and he’s done a lot of things, but he hasn’t done that, and now that he thinks of it, he’s not sure why. “I could, if you want,” he offers.
He knows right away that it’s a mistake.
She looks like she’s smelled something bad. “That’s for—don’t joke about that. Rut is for your mate. It’s not—” She shivers.
Wei Wuxian smiles, ingratiating. “Ah, forgive this one, shijie – how would I know about mates, ah?”
She laughs. “Good point. Well. Ruts and heats are for your mate, da-shixiong. Serious, you know? Not just for fun. Not like this.”
That would then be followed by this scene:
LWJ’s rut happens during Sunshot. WWX hovers around outside Lan Zhan’s tent. Thinks about how he can’t help Lan Zhan.
Afterward, Lan Zhan asks him why he was hovering.
“How—”
“Scent,” Lan Zhan says succinctly.
“I don’t… I don’t have a scent.” That’s the whole point.
“You do. Now.” A negative.
“And what do I smell like? Now?”
Lan Zhan hesitates.
“Tell me.” Rasp.
“Like death.”
Beat.
“Ah.”
That would have been way too bleak for the finished fic, so I cut it quite a while ago. But I kept ruminating on the topic, and I changed my mind: I wanted the source of the problem to be a supposed biological difficulty (just like the lack of fertility backs up the “no kids” and the lack of a scent gland backs up the “no claim”), because the societal take above was just too bullshitty. It didn’t seem like something that would prevent WWX from believing he could be LWJ’s mate. There needed to be at least a grain of truth to it.
“But Dea,” I hear you say, “did this question need to be answered in the story in the first place?” Well, I ultimately decided the answer was no, and the final posted fic leaves the question open:
“I can’t—” satisfy your rut, Wei Wuxian almost says, parroting what he’s been told his whole life. But those same voices told him he couldn’t have a mate. Or a son.
So instead, he takes a deep breath and says, “Yeah. I’d like that.”
But for, like, a month, I was convinced that if I left this worldbuilding thread unresolved, readers would not find the story satisfying. They’d be left wondering whether WWX and LWJ’s relationship is about to fall apart the first time LWJ goes into rut. Explaining it like this, it sounds so irrational. But I really worried about this! I was sure I needed to get into the nitty-gritty. So I wrote stuff like this:
“Lan Zhan.”
“Mn.”
“It’s all right if you want to spend your ruts with someone else.”
“No.”
“Lan Zhan—”
Kiss in the dark.
“If Wei Ying does not wish to share my ruts, I will continue to suppress them. At my level of cultivation, the techniques to do so are not harmful.”
Beat.
“If Wei Ying would wish to share my ruts. It would—that would bring me joy.”
Beat. WWX swallows. “It’s not that I don’t want to. I can’t. I can’t—” he’s blushing. “I can’t take your knot.”
Lan Zhan’s hand slips between his legs; his fingertips circle WWX’s hole. He sounds almost amused when he says, “Wei Ying imagines his body can stretch no farther than this?”
“Lan Zhan.” WWX’s cheeks flaming.
“You can take more,” Lan Zhan says, with perfect unconcern. “With careful and patient preparation. But only if you wish to.”
This kind of worldbuilding nerdery is so fun for me. (And I flatter myself that this scene is hot.) But this is SO in the weeds, and it was making the final sex scene SO long, when really, that scene needs to be as short as possible so as not to compete with the actual climax of the fic. In fact, I ultimately did not include any sex in the final sex scene at all, for that very reason!
So then I tried an abbreviated version that would answer the basic question during the sex itself:
“I—I’m sorry I can’t do this for you in your rut.” WWX all apologetic.
“Why not?”
“I can’t—you know. Take your knot. Physically.”
Lan Zhan raises an eyebrow. He twists his fingers inside Wei Wuxian; tugs at Wei Wuxian’s rim with his thumb, making him gasp. “Wei Ying’s body stretches no further than this?”
“Lan Zhan!” Blushing furiously. He has to admit, “I… don’t know. Maybe it does.” Everybody says—but then again, everyone says all kinds of stupid things. Maybe he can satisfy an alpha’s rut. Lan Zhan’s rut. Maybe he could have all along.
But (a) like I said, I was starting to realize that I didn’t need to write the sex itself and (b) this bit doesn’t actually resolve the question (although it suggests an answer) and if I’m not going to answer the question anyway, then I might as well just set the question aside super briefly, which is what I eventually did in the two lines of the finished fic quoted above.
I hope this was interesting! Tomorrow, we’ll go through all my failed attempts at getting Jiang Cheng to talk about his feelings. 🤣

The Cunning Cat and Lazy Fox
 Updated here first at AO3
Summary:
POV You are the head disciple of Qing Jing peak and you have a sticky, prickly shidi.
The reader is called Dúzhě (读者) which means “reader”
Background info, Duzhe is AFAB and non-binary but uses masculine pronouns
The Author is not chinese
Chapter 1 (here) | Chapter 2
Chapter 1: The Beginning of a Relationship
As the head disciple of Qing Jing Peak, you have many responsibilities and so much paperwork to do. You miss your slacker life in your previous life, but you do like the feeling of being reliable. You are also pretty sure you are in some Chinese cultivation world. It was a bit hard getting used to Chinese mannerisms. Anyway, as a head disciple and senior brother, one of your responsibilities is to supervise some of the junior classes and currently you are helping the juniors to paint. And this one junior brother of yours is staring at you pretty hard as you demonstrate painting a sky.
This junior brother staring at you to death is called Shen Jiu, a latecomer brought here by Yue Qi, and he wants to usurp your position as the head disciple. Since he was a latecomer, your Shizun tasked you to help Shen Jiu settle in. You made arrangements in the male’s dormitory, ordered his supplies to arrive at the earliest convenience, and gave him a tour of Qing Jing Peak. He was pretty quiet through the whole ordeal, silently observing you. That night, you woke up remembering that Shen Jiu was a character, the main character of Scum Villain Self-Saving System, Shen Yuan, transmigrated as. However, it seemed like you transmigrated in the Proud Immortal Demon Way timeline. You cursed a bit and wrote down what you remembered about the book’s lore before going back to sleep.
After a couple of weeks of him following you and you tutoring him at the Peak’s library to help him catch up, it is when during your tutoring session he addressed you. More like insulting you.
“...Duzhe-shixiong is… pretty lazy,” Shen Jiu commented. You just smiled at him. After that, it seemed like Shen Jiu wanted to test your patience. Checking with your fellow senior martial siblings, he also tried riling up all the senior martial brothers. Shen Jiu was not close to his fellow martial brothers or juniors either. The only male he did not insult was Qing Jing’s Peak lord, Shen Anwei, given that your Shizun was the one to give his last name to your junior brother.
“Duzhe-shixiong,” Shen Jiu called. You placed down your paintbrush and got up to walk towards Shen Jiu.
“Yes, Shen-shidi?” you asked.
“Duzhe-shixiong… is pretty boring,” Shen Jiu whispered after leaning close to you. You smiled and pinched his cheek. “Ugh,” His scrunched-up face was pretty cute, you thought.
“If that is all, Shen-shidi, then this Shixiong is going then,” Shen Jiu rubbed the cheek you pinched as you checked your other junior siblings.
You do not mind that Shen Jiu insulted you much. It gives you an excuse to pinch and squish your prickly junior brother’s cheek. Though you could go without Yue Qi's presumably envious stares when he sometimes visited Shen Jiu. That confused you as to why Yue Qi always looked at you so enviously. It could be that every time Yue Qi arrives, Shen Jiu is following you like a cold cat. Following you at a distance, not wanting to be approached but also not wanting to lose you from his sight.
“Duzhe-shixiong,” someone called. You looked up from your paperwork and saw it was Shen Jiu by the classroom door.
“Oh, it’s Jiu-er,” Shen Jiu huffed at the way you addressed him so familiarly. You only really call him that when it is just the two of you. But you do have a slight curiosity about what expression Yue Qi would make if you called Shen Jiu “Jiu-er” in front of him. However, so far Shen Jiu has not exploded at you for calling him that compared to the way he yelled at Yue Qi for calling him “Xiao Jiu” and you like to keep it that way.
“Duzhe-shixiong, it is lunchtime,” Shen Jiu reminded you. A close senior sister of yours must have tasked Shen Jiu to make you eat.
“I’m coming,” you got up as that particular senior sister is pretty scary when angered. The reason why Shen Jiu just insults you and does not rile you up in anger compared to your martial brothers is that after Shen Jiu started speaking to you, you became close as you learned a bit of his private history. It was when you were coming back from an errand in town that your Shizun had tasked you with when you accidentally stumbled upon Shen Jiu sneaking off the mountain. You had a weird quirk of not using the stairs.
“What? Shen Jiu?” you called out. In front of you was Shen Jiu, who looked miserable.
“Duzhe-shixiong!” Shen Jiu exclaimed. You had heard rumors that Shen Jiu would sneak off in the night, some say, to visit the brothel in the town. But you did not believe it, mostly the brothel part.
“Shen Jiu, explain now or I’m getting Shizun,” you bluffed. You turn a blind eye when your martial siblings sneak off during the night as long as they explain why, where, and as long as the where is not a dubious place. However, this is Shen Jiu and you do not know much about him yet. You somehow got him to admit that he does not feel safe sleeping in the male dormitory and that he had been sleeping in the kitchen of the town’s brothel. So you got the truth of the rumor and dragged Shen Jiu with you to your room since as a head disciple you get your own room, which was actually in the female’s dormitory. Shen Jiu resisted at first till he learned that you were living in the female’s dormitory.
“Why do you live in the female dormitory?” Shen Jiu asked once you successfully snuck Shen Jiu into your room.
“Biologically speaking, I’m a female,” you responded casually.
“What!” Shen Jiu exclaimed. You rolled your eyes as you took your mattress off your bed, placing it next to your bed. You slept on top of two mattresses by the way, the reason you have an extra mattress is that you stole one from another senior sister that you dislike.
“Surprised?” you asked as you removed extra bedding from storage.
“Why call yourself a man, then?” Shen Jiu asked.
“Did I ever say I was a man or a woman?” you questioned. “Besides, I don’t particularly feel girly like Xi-shijie or manly like Liu-shidi, not that I hate female clothes or anything, it is just a… preference, yeah let’s go with that[1],” turning to look at Shen Jiu and gesturing to the mattress on the floor next to your bed. “You can sleep here and in the future too, if you want,”
It was after that night that Shen Jiu became quite sticky with you. This in turn made Yue Qi jealous as when he comes by, Shen Jiu is standing next to you instead of a couple of paces behind you. Shen Jiu still plans to take the head disciple position from you.
“A-Duzhe,” Shen Jiu has taken to calling you that, in front of your martial siblings.
“...yes Jiu-er,” you replied in front of your martial siblings, too. Your relationship with Shen Jiu changed a lot over the months. Especially since both of you had a lot of late-night talks when Shen Jiu could not stand sleeping in the male dormitory. And one night, Shen Jiu slept in your bed with you, and you let him. Nights after that, you forsake taking the top mattress off and just have Shen Jiu sleep with you.
“Jiu-er?” you called.
“Hm?” He sleepily mumbled.
“Do you still want to be the head disciple?” you asked. He opened his eyes to look at you, and both of you lay side by side staring at each other.
“Yes,” He replied.
“Alright,”
Later down the line, Shen Jiu became Qing Jing Peak’s head disciple, but you still did the bulk of the work. When your Shizun ascended and Shen Jiu became Shen Qingqiu and Qing Jing’s new peak lord, you were still by his side. When Shen Qingqiu became a Shizun himself, you became a hall master by his side.
[1] Duzhe debated telling Shen Jiu about being non-binary but doesn’t feel like explaining

A crossover was revealed to me in a fever dream: Scum Villain but there are Alternates à la Mandela Catalogue.
(Quick note: I have only watched the first volume of The Mandela Catalogue, and I'm not up to date with the lore [I'm using the Mandela Catalogue wiki to check information] but that's ok, I can simply put Airplane in the same boat as me and problem solved)
Ok so, from what I can remember of this dream, Airplane had added Alternates in his notes, maybe even thinking of an Alternate wife, but decided to delete them because let's be honest... most readers of them fantasy harems catered to hetero men are cowards that only like their monster girls when they look A. Conventionally pretty and B. Are not too monstrous.
Deleting the notes, unfortunately, did nothing to actually deleting Alternates from the PIDW world and so, when a certain Cucumber transmigrated, he did so into the role of Shen Qingqiu. It is important to note, however, that role and body do not necessarily mean the same thing and, unfortunately, Shen Jiu had already been supplanted once.
(Now, when was he supplanted, that's for you to decide, it can range from a week ago to when he was a little child and therefore the Shen Jiu we know has always been an Alternate)
Anyways, back to the present: So, Peerless Cucumber, now Shen Qingqiu, goes through the plot as normal without even realizing that he is most definitely not human... at least at first. But then the evidence starts to pile up and the direction it points to is not "classic cultivator/Airplane bullshit"
Because floating without a sword sounds improbable but plausible; but then one day, in the privacy of his room, he mockingly repeats something the system just said and it sounds exactly the same as that nightmare google translate voice. And what about the time when he was practicing cultivation in the bamboo forest and after hearing a sudden noise and, scared of being caught, he simply appeared inside the bamboo house? He's pretty sure teleportation is a power reserved only for Luo Binghe and Mobei Jun???? Since when can the scum villain teleport???????? System????????? Explain??????????????
And what about the demon invasion? Sure, at the time he thought he had gotten lucky and that the poisoned thorns of Elder Sky Hammer's armor had missed him, but now that he thinks about it he did feel a light pressure on impact, and his poor sleeve had been pierced, so why did nothing happen to him?
But the weirdest thing so far was that he could now see a person and, if he concentrated enough, he would know exactly what to say, what strings to pull and buttons to push for them to fall into despair, and the worst part was that he wanted to do it! Some part of his being wanted to cause this suffering and the only two things stopping him were his morals and his self preservation! At first he had thought that this was some weird fucked-up residual part of the original goods, but now he wasn't so sure...
All of this culminates in Shen Qingqiu looking at his reflection on a bronze mirror while getting ready for bed after a very bad day (maybe, through his fucked up ability, he had looked at his zhangmen-shixiong and knew that it would be so easy to push this strong, kind, man into a never-ending abyss inhabited exclusively by his heart demons and himself. He had turned around and all but bolted to his bamboo house, least he do something that he would regret for the rest of his life) when all of the pressure and fear of being trapped in this situation came crashing down on him, and, looking closely at his cold, immutable reflection, he wished that his calm outside could reflect the storm raging inside...
...not a second passed after such thought had sprouted in his mind when his exterior started to change. His eyes, his mouth, his limbs, all of them started to elongate and contort impossibly. And Shen Qingqiu's mind, at first filled with horror, soon realized that there was something familiar in the grotesque display he was witnessing through his mirror. You see, before he died, Shen Yuan, Pearless Cucumber, used to be a chronically online consumer of internet media. And what he was looking at felt indeed very, very, familiar.
After a few minutes of freaking out (and telling Binghe that "Everything is fine, this master doesn't need any help, yes Binghe I'm sure, do not open the door") Shen Qingqiu managed to return to the form of the original goods (can it even be called that? Since the body was most definitely not Shen Qingqiu's. This was not part of the original novel!) while processing that yes, this was actually happening wtf? wtf?? wtf???????
A few extra notes that my brain decided to just ad while I was redacting this:
• In moments of extreme distress, Shen Qingqiu's face distorts if he isn't careful. After he discovers he is an Alternate, it happens less, but it may still happen
• Following that, during the demon invasion, when Shen Qingqiu saved Binghe from big spiky demon man, his face did distort, but it was too little and most people were not that close so only someone who was paying attention to Shizun's face (cough cough Binghe cough) rather than all that had just happened would notice
• Another moment of face distortion happens during the abyss yeeting scene.
• SQQ finds out SQH is Airplane because during the conference, the Alternate Instincts (as I've decided to dub the compulsion to cause M.A.D. in people) tell him that a good way to start the spiraling on the other is to tell him how worthless he is, that even in a world of his own cration nobody has, nor will appreciate him as anything more than a tool. This, of course, leads to SQQ realizing that Airplane is right there! And he has severe self-esteem issues!
• Because of this, after Cucumber confronts Airplane he makes sure to never treat him as worthless or useless. He does insult him (that's how their friendship works) but never devaluating his worth as a human being.
• After confronting SQH, the first thing Cucumber asks is how long the original goods has been an Alternate. Airplane is very confused, up until SQQ does the face distortion party trick, then he is just unconscious.
• Talking about cumplane friendship, because Alternates can mimic not just voices but also music, these two abuse the hell out of said power by listening to modern music together.
• Binghe, knowing that his Shizun is not what he sais he is (an immortal master cultivator) since at least the demon invasion (SQQ probably slipped a few times over the years and Binghe absolutely noticed).
• Does he know that he is specifically an Alternate, though? I mean... probably? He did have access to the entire Qing Jing Peak library, plus Meng Mo, plus all the during/after abyss treasures and tomes of the demon realm
• That said, following Binghe's Shizun kink, and taking in account that he, unlike the average monster girl harem male reader, is not a coward... he would totally be into unhinged Alternate non human form if his Shizun would just let him! Please! He is ready to act as pathetic as necessary if it will get him the privilege of looking at his Shizun in all his analogue horror glory!

This may be a rant but, if Airplane had progressed with the main storyline of making Bingge and Shen Jiu reconcile, they would have probably been more healthy than expected.
Probably.
Shang Qinghua had thoughts about making the Luo binghe and Shen Qinqiu be in a relationship, whenever or not it meant a romantic one was probably up for debate, cuz I only remember that Airplane wanted to redeem the villain and considering the good amount of bingge and Scum shen that already existed (I'm looking at you Searching For Friends In the Dusty Dessert) then I'm pretty sure it was going to be like a very very good one. But maybe not a full on romantic relationship due to harem wives still being a thing ever since Ning Yingying. So gayness was thrown out the window. (Despite the comments in PDIW telling Airplane how much better he will be writting bl because the relationships between Shidis and Shixiongs had more tension than Bingge and Wives, and we all know how there are many series that give off the same vibes yet don't have a gay character at all. Cough shonen cough.)
So this just my two cents of an interpretation of what was supposed to happen to the main villain. A) Shen Jiu would have likely been slowly reforming his character since the time Binghe lost his pendant, or B) Shen Jiu would have shown his true side during the Water Prison Arc or Jinlan City Arc. Not just revealing his past but also the reasons behind his killings.
Am I doing it right? Binghe would think constsntly as he saw the sharp eyes accumulating their rage when he felt at his weakest in the fight against the demon.
For me, it's most likely A bc with A there would have been hints of the character changing, not much, but just enough to leave some plot holes here and there that could be explored later on.
Shen Jiu could have a reason for finding the stranded pendant in his peak. He could have secretly watched the protagonist from afar get beaten and done nothing. But when it came to his life being in actual danger, he would waste no time saving him, like when they discovered the skinner. And to Luo Binghe, all of this would be confusing. He'd think naively that all the pain he had to endure was justifiable, but slowly, the resentment would start toe at him up.
His Shizun got mad at Ning Yingying because she asked for help, yet relented and let him stay in his carriage. His Shizun would often beat him up time and time again, telling him to learn because he is weak, yet still be training under his own hand every day. [Idk if airplane would have planned for the man to turn over a new leaf instantly, but it did seem a but fishy how we never get a reason as to why Shen Yuan gets transmitted into that exact point in the book, or why the OOC just completely fades after he'd done one mission. The skinner. And this purely already on a og Canon divergence, but if Airplane wanted to do his twist here and still keep it a secret for the readers, he would have given Binghe a teacher, coincidentally, when he had just lost the pendant of his mother.]
Shen qingqiu was ruthless, yet there came once in a blue moon a moment that made him think back as to why he was still here all this time. He wasn't his most favored, yet he was still kept an eye upon. The time he finally beat Ming Fan fair and square, the time he managed to beat several Bai Zhan Peak disciples at once to show off his strength, Shen Qingqiu didn't grow angry at him, yet didn't grow happy at it either. Though he seemed like he saw something behind those eyes behind the fan, his irises cooled and fired up at the same time. What was he thinking? Luo Binghe asked, many others did too. No one knew as turned his sight away the next second.
Are you not disappointed in me now? He would think upon coming back to the peak hoping that one of this days that ruthless Shizun would smile at him for the beast he had slayed.
Am I strong enough for you? He would think upon noticing the birds in the sky looking at his face as he slayed another beast again, taking the number one place.
What is he thinking? Luo Binghe asked one night as the sharp eyes strangled him with that fearful gaze, taking the longest time to look at the mark, then an even longer time to look at him as a person, as Binghe. When he turned away from the cliff, Binghe only wished to be looked back again, to ask.
Is he doing it right?
Is he not a disappointment anymore?
Will he not be hit again?
Is he strong enough in his eyes?
Is he proud of him?
Proud of the demon he raised?
Apparently not.
So Binghe does not try anymore, when he sees Shizun once more, he does not try anymore. He does not want revenge and he does not want his love. But his mind still can't let him go, the curious cat wants to find out what's inside Shen Qingqiu, why has he done everything up until this point? Why did he never smile, why did he always come back to treat him for the minimum things, why did he give him a chance to sleep for a few days under his own home. That same man that never smiled was the same one that shouted him to get up and fight, the same one to slice the demon's head off before he got poisoned, the same one that reprimanded him for not being able to control himself against the kids on the street in his dream, the same one that stood behind him like a silent blanket when he saw his mother die again, the same one that whipped him until he could dodge the whip and grab it in one hand, the same person that would throw him into the abyss, the very same person that would treat his wounds when Yingying wasn't around, the same person that poured tea on him for the very first day and the same person that would ask him that very fated question one night.
"Do you want to become strong?"
"Yes."
"Stronger than anyone in this world?"
"Yes."
"To not get trampled and beaten by others ever again?"
"Yes."
"...Then you must go through hell and back for that."
At that time, he thought he would understand his Shizun if he managed to be a mirror of what that man shows. For years, he yearned and planned to be his equal, to grab the second highest status in the Huan Hua palace, have a harem of women just like Shen Qingqiu has his brothel, have the sect leader obey him just like Shen Qingqiu had Yue Qingyuan by his side, have the past of his roots tainted just like his master— but unlike him, being a demon was enough for mankind to despise him.
Until he finally realized they were nothing alike. Nothing. His emotions became ever so messy with the sight of a surprised Shen Qingqiu standing next to him upon Jinlang, his cold face gone, a new one, a tired one, a pair of eyes that seemed to light up for one second and then dimm the next, calm, terrified, his glossy eyes closed every other emotion, hiding the redt of the face behind his fan as Gongyi Xiao called for him.
Just like him, gods, he was exactly like him. Shen Jiu hated that. What he hated, he would try to kill it as much as he could. Every man that tortured him to the point that he broke, he would kill; Qiu Jianluo, the entire Qiu family, Wu Yanzi, maybe even his Qi-ge in his mind and ...Xiao Jiu. Everyone, everyone from that horrible past, was buried. Nothing that could even remind him of those hellish days would come back.
The ethereal man suddenly began to rot before his eyes. Like a god muddled by the earth, stripped of his divine to show the hidden demon underneath.
Shen Jiu is man that ran and hid, a man of a cold front in front of him while the silently trembling and tense fingers said otherwise, a man that became a horrible killer, then a coward. That same man was a hero, his savior, and the one to lay down his life. That same man was a victim and a scared child. That same man was what he once was a long time ago and chose to give him that same hellfire in order to forge the same cold blade he has become.
But Luo Binghe was still here, the white sheep still craving to know more, and now the black wolf stared back at him, wanting to taste revenge upon his bones. Or something, anything, he wanted to be filled with this deep void in his heart, his body, and soul. Just one look at him would be enough.
They inflicted each other pain, yet never meant to do so? No they both did, just that the outcome was the worse they could get.
Luo Binghe felt a slight trembling hand touch his forehead as they got out of the mausoleum, and he, despite every touch of every woman he could have, would still melt at the softness of each fingers as they tried to not hurt him, not like last time. They were trembling even more when he flinched, when his eyes widened and then rested upon the strands that have never felt Shizun's fingers rub through them in such a thoughtful way.
Shen Qingqiu, for the first time, let his hand be held tighter and tighter by Binghe as the whispers grew and the rumors of Su Xiyan pierced ears, condemning a child for its sole existence, condemning a woman they knew nothing of. He gritted his teeth at the baseless rumors, only able to shout out. "How fucking dare they."
That is, except for one another.
To be just as guilty of those baseless facts as he was a long time ago, That it was all his fault Liu Qingge died when he had actually tried to save him, that it was Luo Binghe’s fault that Su Xiyan died when he had been a baby at that time. Like Disciple like Master they both would truly be alone in this world that never wished to listen to any of their words.
And now, with the longing of his touch that he craves and the wish of never being left alone in this world, both of them don't fear the past anymore.
