She Who Became the Sun illustrations by Przemysław "Trust" Truściński

Okay I did some digging around and managed to find an ebook version of the illustrated Polish edition (Ta, która stała się słońcem) of She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan!! I got my copy from swiatksiazki.pl with the help of automatic translation.

All things considered i kinda wish that Dancingpaw was Longbillow's apprentice. She loved hanging out with him as a kit and i thought they were a really wholesome duo. That's just me though.

I KNOOOWW I WAS DEVASTATED </3 I fought myself over whether or not I would switch her but lore wise sadly Frondstar probably would've insisted the deputy actually have an apprentice to make the clan more "proper" as Leafclaw didn't train anyone before being appointed :(

OH BOY OH MY THANKS SO MUCH FOR THIS ASK!! i love them ALL so much so this is a hard decision but i do have a pretty thought out list:

1) Ghoulia Yelps

this might be surprising since my pfp is quite literally frankie stein but ghoulia is actually my #1 bbygirl beloved. which is interesting, because she was actually my least favourite as a kid and i was actively terrified of her (i had a serious fear of zombies). ghoulia is also extremely aromantic and no i will not be taking notes but if prompted (or even without. because i am nothing if not annoying) i can and will explain at length exactly why ghoulia is the #1 aro coded monster high character. also she’s just cool (ZOMBIE SCENE QUEEN AUGHHHH)

2) Robecca Steam

SHE IS A VICTORIAN STEAMPUNK ROBOT. need i say more. i don’t, but i will just bc i love her and want to share. if you don’t know her doll comes with spinnable cogs on her legs! and she travels around in canon with steam powered rocket boots. sick right, yes. her design is so over the top and cool in every way. i love her dorky polite personality and her inability to use any piece of technology invented after the year 1900. hashtag alive in the wrong era, but literal. bc she actually is, someone help this girl

3) Draculaura

who doesn’t love drac!!! she’s literally the sweetest girl alive. she was my absolute fave as a kid. draculaura on top (㇏(•̀ᵥᵥ•́)ノ)

4) Abbey Bominable

ABBEY!!!!! i love her. literal ice queen and actual menace (complimentary). she is literally everyone’s favourite mean friend except she’s not really mean at all she’s just too real for some people. forever iconic, abbey ilysm

5) Scarah Screams

I was really debating giving this spot to Operetta (Operetta apologist for life btw) but the thing that broke the tie for me was down to character design. i love them both but omg. scarah is on another level she is literally freaky weirdgirl personified i think she is so cool y’all

…6) G3 Frankie Stein

OK I KNOW THIS IS A TOP 5 LIST… but this is a g1 list so far so it doesn’t count technically. g3 frankie is honestly the best thing about the reboot to me so far; i like some of the other reboot designs but personality wise, g3 frankie is absolutely my fave of the new cast. i genuinely adore them so so immensely everytime they’re on screen they make me smile :)

now it’s time for the RUNNERS UP (ie. i love them a lot but not quite top 5s):

Operetta:

people who hate on Operetta need to rewatch like all the movies and webisodes bc um. she has never done anything wrong actually yall just forgot what happened. leave my girl alone 🗣️

like here’s the thing, right. when a work like TDP has a variety of races in it, you’re bound to have some fave characters who are white and some who are not. in my past fandoms my fave characters were a dark skinned black man, a dark skinned black woman, and a disabled, mentally ill asian man. if i didn’t have that background in writing subversive fic centred on their experiences, and seeing how their fandoms treated them with varying degrees of racism, stereotypes, and ableism - yeah, i may question my fave being the one (1) white girl amid a main trio of 2/3 boys of colour.

however

representation wise the odds are stacked that you will have more ‘white faves’ than non white faves. certain archetypes also tend to be based more in race than others

however

if you only ever love white characters, and hate the characters of colour that are canonically important or involved in their lives (harrow with viren; terry and callum with claudia; callum and ezran for rayla, etc) i will and am absolutely side eyeing you so hard & sincerely hope you do some major self reflection

#tag ramble #in regards to #like i still remember the way a lot of white afabs who Love claudia & insisted she was a lesbian #responded to terry #a brown trans man #and even lesbian claudia being the hill ppl would die upon when like don't get me wrong she wasn't head over heels for callum #but like?? there was still very clearly Something there #every time a white character gets their canonical attraction to a character of colour erased so they can be Gay #esp when asian men rarely get to be love interests either??#it's my villain origin story #like rayla is very much allura from vld so again: i know My Fave Archetype isn't dependent on race #but it was absolutely exacerbated in allura's case as a dark black woman and her writing was informed by racism #100%#thus i don't think rayla is effected much by race (whereas someone like claudia or ezran absolutely) in fanon spaces #but i think she is defs impacted by misogyny #like janai is my fave non Main character and the way ppl talked about her plot line in s4 #as though How Dare she take more focus than amaya and it's like. cool ur colourism maybe

I'm 'only' five movies into the Friday the 13th series, and there are other slasher series that might just be better overall (or at least that I might like better), but I think I finally understand how it feels to be someone who isn't particularly into Dynasty and Samurai Warriors looking at someone who is (aka me).

But they're so repetitive, and formulaic, and often unambitious, and clearly milking the concept for all its worth in a way that's egregious even in the modern media landscape where beating horses not just to death, but to a liquified horse slurry is a beloved tradition... But even later entries are so cheaply made despite their predecessors having been lucrative, and this is clearly done to maximize the cost-to-profit ratio in a particularly tight-fisted way. I don't get it...

I mean, hell, the sub-genre the Warriors games are in is even called 'hack and slash'. A lot of people say it's dumb just like they say slashers are. And yet, despite agreeing with a lot of those criticisms and think the company developing it and its publisher needs to be held to higher standards, I still like Warriors games. I've sunken hundreds of hours of my life into them and don't regret it... Except Dynasty Warriors 6, anyway.

#yes i DID have to get a jab at dw6 in. i'm still mad after nearly 15 years because it ruined my Absolute Fave and she's never recovered.

U guys were such good characters with such amazing wasted potential and I'm sooooooo sorry trek would write you all out of the show just to bring back the cast who's stories all finished 20 years ago. You all deserved better and more satisfying ends to your character arcs.
