i also just don't understand the neurochemical theory for ADHD i guess. i mean, as far as i can tell, stimulants have genuinely helped me a lot, especially with sensory overload and being able to activate focus at will more often. but they haven't changed the core part of me that just goes too fast, if that makes sense. when i was a kid, most of the adults around me were convinced that (and it sounds fucking stupid, sorry, i promise i am not making this up) i was like... so smart that i had excess neurons that fired so much it caused literally every symptom of ADHD you can imagine. sensory overload was because i had like, heightened senses and took in too much data, talking fast and on a train of thought was because i just thought faster than other people, stuff like that. it's definitely a lot better than being told i'm stupid and defective (though i got a fair bit of that too, depending on the adult), but pretty obviously pseudoscientific and also the reason i didn't get diagnosed till age 16 despite the extremely obvious flags i was throwing up. regardless, that explanation that my brain was simply structured differently, that i basically took in too much data too fast, always spoke to me a lot more than the idea that it's caused by my dopamine receptors only. i just don't generally link most of my symptoms to my emotions or adrenaline levels most of the time. certainly it plays a part, but the way i talk, the sensory stuff, and the way i learn and process new information seems to be largely unexplainable with dopamine levels.
#i suppose i am kind of also just describing autism#and it's entirely possible that i just have comorbidity going on#but psychiatry is far from an exact science and i can't help but wonder if there's more to it than brain chemicals and maybe its more to do#with electrical signals. god that sounds dumb i need to learn neuroscience#i hate gifted kid shit man it's so stupid. i had a good teacher for most of it that mostly just had us do like#typical stuff for autistic kids tbh. different puzzles and logic games some sensory stuff#she did a lot of cool stuff with different tests she had us take about learning styles and whatnot#but it's stuff most other kids could've benefited from so there was no real need to have it be its own program#also you got in on an iq test but got kicked out if your grades dropped which is dumb and kinda defeats the purpose#they probably should've given everyone iq tests at the beginning of each year and based it on that#...scientific legitimacy of iq aside#i do think there is some merit to the sort of horseshoe theory of intelligence they used#it was basically an ese class for high functioning adhd and autistic kids#and maybe high intelligence does cause neurodivergent symptoms but ive yet to find valid data to prove it#i mean i think most of the other kids wouldve found it boring but only with that one teacher#later teachers that my siblings had just had kids do projects and research stuff#i do think i would've acted out a lot more without that as an outlet for the ole noodle. also helped w executive dysfunction a ton#it just. could have been a regular ese class for kids w/o intellectual disabilities. the gifted label is dumb

What I think class 1b were like as toddlers because I cant stop thinking about it <3
Awase - definitely got in trouble a lot for welding shit together, he would welding his toys together to make these big as sculptures to give to his dad and it would be so cute but such a pain in the ass at the same time. He tries to be helpful with his quirk though <3 one time he was holding the light for his dad (universal experience) and welded the light to his forehead only to blind his dad when they looked at eachother.
Sen - he was a good kid for the most part but I think he would test peoples patience and pick fights with litterally everyone. Like some kid down the street looked at him wrong so now hes chasing him down the street screaming with a handfull of water balloons. Has 100% threatened to drill people with his quirk <3 took pictures of anything and everything with his moms phone.
Kamakiri - spent 100% of his time outside catching bugs or frogs or something. His mom would constantly get onto him for bringing bugs and shit into the house so he would go outside with a little grass hopper in his hands and sulk on the porch </3
Kuroiro - he would mostly keep to himself and just draw or play alone simply because he preferred it that way but the one game he always loved playing with others was hide and seek, only because he was a GOD at that game. 100% made a babysitter almost cry before because they thought he ran away or something when he was just hiding in the shadows (quite litterally)
Kendo - pure angel. Nice to everyone and everything and helped with anything she could help with <3 she seems like the type of kid that would hold your hand or something if you were sad or do something for you that makes her happy and omg I love her sm <3
Kodai - quiet kid. She did 100% use her quirk oh her toys though. Like she would take a small dino figure and size it up to take up her entire room to be more accurate to the game shes playing. Mostly kept to herself and was akward around others but definitely liked helping <3
Komori - problem child. She grew mushrooms everywhere and would pretend to make mushroom soup with the mushrooms she grew <3 definitely had to go to the hospital before because 'pretty mushrooms cant be poisonous' (the pretty mushroom was in fact poisonous)
Ibara - had one of those pocket bibles that she carried with her all the time. Stereotypical christian kid <3 not much I can say tbh exsept I feel like her vine hair would get caught on stuff a lot
Shishida - such a big kid for his age but shy asf. Hid behind his moms leg when he met new people. People constantly thought he was a short teen for how hairy he is when hes like 5. Idk why but he gives me 'doesent like loud noises' vibes. Asked his mom for shades to look cool and they stayed with him ever since
Shoda - shy kid that hides behind his moms leg 2.0. Idk why but I feel like he was a leash kid. Not because he was a problem child but because he would just wander off and no one would notice. Almost got cps called on him mom like 12 times for child neglect because he just walks away lmao
Pony - she the kid that walks up to strangers at pools and stuff and says shit like "my mommy says that her sister is a narcissistic bitch that deserves to rot in hell, watch me do this, its really cool!" Then she just jumps in the pool while whoever shes talking too goes through the 5 stages of grief.
Tsubaraba - problem child. Definitely was one of those kids that made up jokes that dont make sense (He thinks theyre funny plz laugh) also a very talkative kid. Not in the pony way but he would walk up to you and tell you everything he knows about dinos <3 ran out of breath quickly when he was a kid (cuz his quirk) so he had a little inhaler on him all the time
Tetsutetsu - outgoing popular kid that everyone likes. Everyone wants him on their dodge ball team <3. Knew different cuss words but not what they ment so he would say shit like 'son of a fuck you bitchin butt fart' or shit like that. Almost bit his tongue off before because he was talking while eating. (I wanna say he learned his lesson but he did it again a week later.)
Tokage - really liked legos as a kid. Her entire bedroom was just legos and her pet lizard named after some character from a movie she liked or smthn. She would confidently shout the wrong awnser in class (thinking shes right) and get hella confused when the teacher says shes wrong. Pony type talkative <3
Manga - his parents fridge never had enough room for his drawings. The only trouble he would cause is drawing on the walls or his bed sheet and stuff like that. He was pretty good at controlling his quirk but he was still really careful to not say certain things that would lead to house fires or his family being crushed lmao
Honenuki - adorable kid. He would constantly go up to strangers and compliment them <3 he would steal his dads ties and stuff and walk around with them on to feel like an adult and it was always so cute. Definitely the type of kid thay would take his moms phone to take pictures of random flowers and shit.
Bondo - taller and bigger than the rest of the kids his age. He preferred playing with bugs and other small animals than the other kids. One day he came home from school and his mom saw that he had a rabbit? For some reason? Next thing ya know they have a pet rabbit called carrot stick and it was his best friend <3
Monoma - he was cannonly teased and made fun of a lot as a kid for his quirk so I think he had some hannah montana type double life. Like at school he was being bullied and kept to himself and just kinda sit there and take it but at home he would be talking about how he rulled the school and was treated like a king there because of how awesome he is </3
Reiko - watched a lot of horror movies as a kid. Like her babysitter would be like 'you cant watch that its too scary' but then the babysitter is the one that ends up scared while reiko is drawing a little doodle of whatever movie monster is in front of her <3
Rin - angel child. Definitely shy but will talk your ear off if you ask him about dragons <3 his mom has the entire 'how to train your dragon' movie franchise memorized because of how often rin would watch it. He would pick flowers (or weeds that look like flowers) on his way home from school and give them to his family.
They were all so sweet im gonna cry </3

tell us about tiger..... top 10 tiger facts #please
I present to you, him!
Tumblr media
But let's start out with the basics before moving to facts. His name is Tiger, 41 years old, 7ft tall, trans man and currently a mercenary in Night City! This one's getting long so it goes under a read more but here you go!
He is a nomad. Buuuut... he doesn't run with any clan anymore, not by choice though. Roughly 10 years ago he lost his camp in a fire thanks to some corps or god knows who deciding to beef it out right near their camp, not really caring about people getting caught in the crossfire. Many died and those who survived scattered, maybe to join another clan, maybe to a different city, but Tiger doesn't really know. He very much returned repeatedly to see if anyone else would still be there, hoping to find his family which he didn't see with the other bodies. Never found anyone though, not alive at least. Tiger also lost his husband in all of that, taking the ring of his body and still carrying it with him. Being a guy with nothing to his name now, he set out to NC, city closest to where they were camping at the time and just kinda... let himself be taken along, never quite processing any of that, not wanting to face his grief. He did very much consider trying to join in with another group but also it felt.. wrong? He just could never bring himself to. But all of this also very much does lead to him struggling with being a nomad, is he really one still if he isn't moving with a clan? Especially faced with this when he and V encounter the Aldecaldos. Which is a whole other thing I could talk about but damn this first fact is getting long !!!! Also I've never quite settled on which of the Big 7 his group belonged to... At least I think its 7 big names n theres all these little subsections... Gots to sniff my little lore book again some time.
He has a niece! Which he didn't know until recently. A little bit of a happy development after the first fact is that his parents and sister did actually make it out alive, but it wouldn't be until a few years later once Tiger made a name for himself with boxing that they'd find him. In the time they were seperated his sister had a daughter, Ellie. And by god does he love his niece dearly. He spoils her rotten and she loves her uncle so much, thinks he's the coolest.
Tiger is a mechanic/engineer. His interest has always been cars and engines and you've got to keep stuff running around the camp somehow. If your car is making a weird noise, your motorcycle isn't starting or your generators are acting funky, he can fix it. Tiger loves anything mechanical. Anything hardware related he loves messing with. Computers may not be his expertise as much but he loves learning and trying new things.
He is an ex-animals member. Tiger was easily scooped up by the animals, hard to miss a guy like that and he's already got the whole big cat theme going on so he fit right in. Things wouldn't always go smoothly though and eventually he turned into a guinea pig for them to test new and cool concoctions for enhancement which very much very experimental. But he wasn't aware of that, it happened gradually and without him really noticing. His sister very much did pick up on him behaving odd and differently, looking sickly and all that which resulted in her hiring mercenaries to invesitage for her. It wasn't an easy job for them but they did find evidence and it didn't take much to convince Tiger to leave. And leave he did. Safe to say he and the rest of the animals are not on good terms.
He loves cooking!!!! Nothing like a good hearty meal to keep you happy and healthy!
Tiger very much picked his name at a young age. He always loved reading about big cats, fascinated by them. His interest resulted in his parents calling him their little tiger as nickname but it just stuck and he loved it so much. To him its like his parents picking his new name, in a way.
He knows its cheesy, tacky and over the top to have a lot of things on his body be themed after a tiger, leaning into all of that but it makes him happy. The tail, his truck, his clothing, a lot is influenced by that. Though obviously he doesn't only build his identity around that, but its a big part of him that brings him joy.
Because I've seen someone bring it up in the tags on one of my art pieces of him. Tiger can't purr, he considered having something like that done but no, he chuffs, like a tiger does. One could say its a vocal stim. Most of the time he does it in greeting, to agree with something or when he's happy. Little happy noise.
The tail isn't just for looks, a lot of his cyberware very much serves a purpose outside of being just for looks. Tiger works together with his ripper to have the cyberware do exactly what he wants. The tail helps with balance but can also be used to hit someone or grab onto something. He has full control over it but it does also idly move to reflect his emotions or reactions.
His truck is called Leviathan. The truck in question:
Tumblr media
It was lost for a little while because it broke down on the way to NC, he didn't have the needed tools to fix it so he had to abandon it, as much as it hurt. Returning to the spot he left it at it was just gone and he was unable to track it down. Very much took from the nomad specific quest in game here but yea the geolocation pinged again and he was able to find it again.
In summary:

Actress Simone Ashley, 27, grew up in Surrey before moving to Los Angeles alone at 17. She found fame starring in Netflix’s Sex Education, watched by 40 million in its first month. She starred in season two of Bridgerton, which became Netflix’s most watched show in English in its first week. She lives in London ~ Times UK
Tumblr media
Teachers called me “the brown girl” at school. I remember if I ever failed a test or misbehaved, the teachers would say, “Which one? Oh, the brown girl.” My first kiss was with a really popular boy in primary school but he denied it to our friends and said, “I would never kiss the brown girl.” I don’t speak about it much because I don’t want it to sound like trauma porn, but it is very real.
I didn’t grow up in a world where people would say, “You’re brown and beautiful.” I have always loved the colour of my skin. But the more I work in this industry, I look back and think no young person should ever feel discriminated against like I was.
We had champagne after we finished the sex scenes in Bridgerton. It felt like we’d done the hardest bit of the whole 11-month shoot. We did all of our intimacy scenes in one week. It’s a lot, gearing up for that every day and making sure you have enough sleep, doing whatever you have to do to make you feel ready. I am confident in myself and my body.
Therapy helps me clear my head. It can be a bit of a circus in this industry. There have been times when it was overwhelming, lonely and all a little bit crazy. The worst thing to do is to feel like the world is against you. Therapy has helped me learn how to communicate better, control my emotions and find useful skills for when things feel overwhelming. It means I can not take life so seriously and just enjoy it. If you can afford therapy, it’s an interesting way to learn more about yourself. Taking responsibility for yourself and who you are as an adult is important.
Corsets push everything down to the bottom of your stomach. That means when you take them off, you’ve got a little bump. I hated wearing those corsets filming Bridgerton. They’re so beautiful, but I hate them – never again! Luckily, we’re allowed to wear bras now instead and that has changed everything for me. I can do a 12-hour day and feel comfortable.
Going to an all-girls’ school made me grow up late. I was late to the part where I was interested in boys, and other parts of being a teenage girl. I was very much still a child when I was 14 or 15.
My mum tried to teach us Hindi and Tamil, but we grew up watching Lindsay Lohan in The Parent Trap. Growing up between England and California, it was hard for me to tap into that. My mum would speak on the phone in Hindi, or talk to us in it, and I understood it. That ability has gone now, but I feel at home when I hear other people speaking it. Because I left home so young, I didn’t have the means or freedom to spend much time with my family in India. My mum also made me play French video games, so I learnt bits of French.
I wasn’t happy in England as a teenager. All of us have had a bit of a rough time at school. But I felt happy in California, where I spent a lot of time as a kid.
I want to give more people tattoos. When I was bored in Los Angeles in lockdown, I did lots of stuff like tie-dying and learning a language. Then I realised how easy it was to get a rotary tattoo pen, found a nice design and gave myself a tattoo. On some sets that I work on, people are like, “Cool, when we wrap, give me a tattoo.”
My white male counterparts have had it very differently from me. They have more of a voice. I have had to work harder to have that kind of equality. I have learnt to have my own power. I might be different, but if I respect myself and use my voice, eventually the people around me will give me that same treatment.
Empowering a minority shouldn’t be taboo. Especially in the UK, we love Indian food, we watch so many movies inspired by Bollywood music. The people from that community deserve to be empowered and loved. It shouldn’t be a taboo thing to say, you’re brown and amazing.
Simone Ashley stars in a short film for Johnnie Walker’s Bold Steps campaign with Diet Paratha

hey char! out of curiosity, how did you and angel get together? and whats one of your favorite things about her? :)
We met right here on Tumblr through this interaction :D
She followed me and I hadn’t followed back at the time (I really rarely check new followers) but after she sent this ask and I answered it I followed her back. After that we started interacting with each other in the comments of our posts and stuff, then we got each other on different social media, and after a couple of months she reached out on Instagram to tell me that she actually lived close by and inviting me to come hang out with her. We hit it off immediately and spent like hours and hours and hours talking, we kept driving from place to place around the city finding more things to do, we went to a record store, a little alternative store, we got food, we got coffee, and from there we started talking to either through text or on the phone literally every day. We’d spend HOURS on the phone together back then, like sometimes 8-9+ hours, just sitting there talking.
Like I love this screenshot, of us awake at 5:40 AM on the phone for 8 hours talking about Paul Barker 😭
Tumblr media
We also would meet up pretty frequently in person too of course. Like one time that she stayed over the night before Record Store Day and instead of sleeping we stayed up the literal entire night into the next day talking about Nivek Ogre and Al Jourgensen. And then we moved in together before we were a couple about six months later. We were both looking to move anyway so the timing just worked out and we could kinda “test run” things since I was in a dorm room at the time that was much larger than it needed to be because my school didn’t know how to provide gender inclusive housing for transitioning individuals LMAO. We cohabitated really well and living together only made us grow closer. FWIW I was attracted to her right away, I remember the first moment I fully processed what she looked like was when she first messaged me asking if I wanted to hang out and I looked through her selfies so I’d be able to recognize her when we met and could not believe she really looked like that. I was like lol no way is this person this hot and asking to hangout 😳
Anyway. A little while after moving in together I think there was a lot of tension forming between us because she was (spoilers) attracted to me as well. So we started hooking up before we actually started calling ourselves a couple. The funny thing is neither of us really remember the exact moment we started formally considering ourselves a couple. We never had a big “what are we” convo where we put a solid label to things. We had a few conversations about how we hardly knew how to describe our dynamic because girlfriend / boyfriend felt almost juvenile for the level we were at, already living together and sharing finances and then also hooking up, but we started actually verbalizing stuff we were doing as dates, we’d been saying I love you etc for ages already, we started sharing a bed every night, and at some point us being in a relationship was just our reality. 🤷‍♂️
I love her so much. I feel like the luckiest man in the whole world getting to be with her and spend my life with her. Genuinely cannot believe she is so cool, smart and articulate, stylish, thoughtful, funny, with such good taste in music and everything else, and that she is my baby. It’s still so surreal. As for a FAVORITE thing, it’s so hard to pick just one obviously lol, but I think one of the things I appreciate about her more than anything and that I never ever want to take for granted is the way she’s always striving to learn and grow and form a fully consistent and logical and articulate worldview and ethical / philosophical system, like she’s always thinking about new things, reading new works, investigating the world around her, engaging with complicated subject matter, sharing her insights with me, trying to genuinely form a cohesive system for how to make the world a better place, and that’s inspired and driven me so much to do the same. She’s genuinely one of the smartest people you will ever talk to. I never get bored of our conversations and I learn so much from her all the time.

Played Portal revolution
6.5/10
It was good cooking, but should've stayed in the Pan for a little longer and had a little too much salt.
Spoilers below
The Good Parts:
Stirling and Emilia are very funny. I liked their dialogues and interactions, as well as their designs.
Stirling felt very much like Wheatley, Virgil, and Nigel, while also being demonstrably different and personable.
Emilia was unique and I enjoyed hearing about her backstory, as well as the fact she's very human, which makes sense.
I like the the Player Character's design.
The first Dual Portal device looks really cool, the exposed wires, the cracked glass, the scaffolding beneath the cover being exposed are all very good. The Jiggle Physics on the loose prong at the front was a nice touch.
The Second was a nice Red color, and the new portal colors were cool. It looked nice as well.
Being able to be outside was a nice change of pace, you know, being able to see that sun and the sky.
The Added mechanics of the Breaker Switches was really cool, and it made sense - the Aerial Faith Plates and such turning off when there was no power was interesting.
The Linked Weighted Pivot Cubes were also very cool, and was a very much appreciated new mechanic.
Bringing the Pipes in as part of it was fun. I always liked their designs.
The Bad parts
We spent too little time with Stirling and Emilia, the amount of time we spent with the one-portal device felt excessive (I Audibly said "No Shit" when Stirling made the Quip about finally finding the Dual portal device) and I think having us change between the Red and Broken ones wasn't necessary - it was neat, but I feel like we should've had just one, because then it would've been our only constant ally when we would be separated from the Cores, as well as making the use of the portal Guns seem less special, given we find just a random working one.
What is Stirling plan? Bring Glados Back, and try to mitigate the damage she does to Aperture and the Humans and Cores inside of it? Glados started this (well Cave did, but semantics) She was killing Test subjects, and the one that survived had to kill her to survive. Maybe he's just scared of seeing his home fall apart so he takes his anger out on Chell, even though He's working to save it and put a killer on the throne.
The mechanics I mentioned above (Breaker Switch, linked Cubes, Pipes) were severely under utilized, especially when in the boss fight, it would've been so cool to have to use them to take out turrets and launch blocks and turn of certain sections of the Spire to traverse!
Some of the writing felt off? Like, Stirling presents the dangers of everything with way too much forwardness. he should've said something more like "Yeah try not to stand under that too long, You'll just make a Mess. I mean, who would guess skin would stick to panels so hard after sloughs off from that stuff."
Emilia is too smart for how human she is, which does break the immersion a little bit, and she doesn't freak out nearly enough for what happened to her. I think her voice is too clear as well, and should've had a filter on it.
Also there was a fair bit of Map Geometry that hindered movement an awful lot, getting stuck on random unseen objects and not being able to jump properly.
And the ending is Disappointing. In Portal you get out, and are dragged back in. in Portal 2 you get out. In PS: Mel, you get out, with Virgil is genuinely sad you have to leave. Nigel's a little bitch and kills you even if you extinguish the fire.
no matter what you do in Revolution, the Spire Blows, you're critically injured and on the moon. Presumably you do survive given you see stuff happening and Hear the record Emilia left, so either there's a sequel in the works, or it's just disappointing.
So I suppose I should give it the benefit of the doubt since you get dragged back in in Portal, but that was changed after Portal 2 came out I'm pretty sure.
TL;DR
There's a lot of little things I like, a few big things I thought were interesting.
There's some stuff I would've loved to see more of, some questions unanswered as of writing this.
There are a few things I disliked, but none of it ruined the game. I had fun, and will likely play again.

why did your parents homeschool you when they didn't seem to have an interest in teaching you?
Sorry but this ask has me in hysterics cause like,,, I DUNNO, ANON WHY DID THEY????
Ok but fr, from what I can tell it was a mixture of not trusting public education, wanting direct control over what we learned, being bad at teaching kids, and then just kind of getting too busy and giving up. Like our mom did teach us how to read, right? But she kinda got … i dunno, bored?? tired?? Near the end?? So my youngest sister really got screwed in that department and needed tutoring.
I have a lot of memories though where we’d go somewhere like my brothers baseball game and she’d pull out different work books for each of us while starting on a reading lesson with another one of us. So, like, she DID try. I have way too many painful memories of frustrating homework to say that she didn’t try to teach us anything hah. she just didnt teach us very thoroughly, especially about things she assumed we'd just pick up eventually (like time, dates, and months)
Also, my dad is a philosophy professor with multiple degrees who heavily values the education of his children. But I don’t think he’s good at teaching kids, and he didn’t even live with us most of the time. So while he supported the whole thing and would administer science tests (AKA have me read a science text book and then take a test on the chapters I read) he wasn't super involved, from what I can recall.
Wanna know the funniest part tho? Home schooled kids tend to test higher than publicly educated kids. And despite the gaps in our general knowledge and downright educational neglect at times, that’s still the case for me & my siblings.
My brother got insane math scores, I’m talking better than 90% of his peers. And I always scored particularly high in English. my worst subject was math but i never failed anything. i had a breakdown when i got a B in my first ever semester of high school, because to me that was basically failing since my mom said it isn't that hard to get A's :/
my oldest sister has a theory that we're all autistic because we all kinda act like it, haha. which might explain why we didnt realize, cause if all of our siblings are autistic then its just normal to us.
but ALSO: we all have at least one thing we're insanely good at. my oldest brother was fantastic at math (before he self sabotaged but idc about him so whatever). my oldest sister is a wonderful writer and has a fantastic rate of success when she sends out her writing to be published, my other older sister is incredibly smart with math & science and is trying to become a doctor (she also makes all her own clothing and is really good at crafting). i got accepted to every art college i applied to, with scholarships & everything. my younger brother is one of the top football recruits of his year in our entire state. and my littlest sisters skill set is harder to describe, but the gist of it is that she's really good at manipulating people and lying. not sure where she's going with that but she's probably gotten hundreds of dollars of free stuff from people and she enjoys acting. excited to see where she goes cause i genuinely think she could do anything she wants to haha.
ok but now im just ranting about how cool my siblings are. THE POINT IS THIS- as much as I was neglected educationally, I think my parents accidentally did something right: I think they accidentally unschooled us, because our education was NOT as strict as some of the other home schooled kids I met.
my theory is that the neglect/accidental un-schooling kind of led to gaps in knowledge around things i didn't NEED to know to live day to day life (I didn't NEED to know the months or days until I went to public school. before that, I'd just ask mom what day it was, or else just go along with whatever she said we were doing that day)
BUT on the flip side! It also led to me and my siblings basically developing highly practiced skill sets based on our personal interests. and also kept our desire to learn relatively in tact, compared to kids who had the curiosity to learn beaten out of them in middle school with mind numbing homework hahafsdfadf.
OK SO I've clearly gotten away from your original question, anon, apologies but this sparked something in me and i HAD to ramble about my theories.

Are the ArchieSonic comics actually an 80's/90's syndicated cartoon? Episode 64-65: TwoMulti-part finale (part 3: Sonic #50 Director’s Cut)
Welcome back to my look at the ArchieSonic comic series, and how it shared a lot of the same story tropes as a typical ‘80s or ‘90s syndicated cartoon!
In my last two posts I looked at the Endgame arc, which had its big climax in issue #50 with the final battle between Sonic the Hedgehog and Dr. Robotnik. However the final version of this issue had been cut down from the creative team’s original vision for a 48 page comic, so lots of stuff was left on the cutting room floor. And so the following year, since the folks at Archie were already releasing the 48 page Sonic Super Specials four times a year, why not use one of those to show off the uncut version of Sonic #50 that they’d wanted to release? Since I already covered the story in my previous post, I’m mostly just going to be exploring the differences here between the original version and the director’s cut. So let’s take a look at what we got, shall we?
Tumblr media
Alright, the first big difference we need to address is the cover. What the hell happened here? The original cover for issue #50 was perfect, so why did they feel the need to change it? In particular, why did they need to change it to this?! Young Charles and Jules being featured so prominently on this cover doesn’t feel necessary to me, as they were only in the story as part of a flashback/memory dream sequence. And my God, what is wrong with Robotnik’s face? He looks like he’s straining really, really hard to get out a crap that he’s been holding in for a week. Sorry Mr. Spaziante, but this is pure nightmare fuel.
The next big difference is the splash page, which was a feature of each issue of Endgame that I didn’t really cover. The original issue #50 splash page had a really cool gathering of many of the different freedom fighter groups from the history of ArchieSonic putting the smackdown on the bad guys, all drawn by Art Mawhinney.

Look at this! You’ve got the Freedom Fighters, the Chaotix, the Downunda Freedom Fighters, the Wolfpack, and even Sally’s Substitute Legion are there. Sally herself is not though, because she was still busy pretending to be dead. :P I’ve always enjoyed the Combot’s laser bouncing off various reflective surfaces - including the crystallised King Acorn, that was a nice touch - to ultimately set Antoine’s hair on fire. I kinda feel like he had that coming after accusing Sonic of treason. Twice.
The splash page in the director’s cut is a bit simpler, just using the cover art from the original issue #50 and introducing the reasoning behind the director’s cut.
Tumblr media
For some reason it gives me vibes of George Lucas, talking about the special editions of the Star Wars trilogy. In fact now that I think about it, those movies were re-released the same year as this. This is pure speculation from me, but it’s not hard to come to the conclusion that the Star Wars special editions were what inspired the Sonic #50 director’s cut.
Okay, moving into the actual story now. A number of panels throughout the story had their dialogue slightly tweaked in the special edition, and the first instance of this is on the very first page.
Tumblr media
In the original edition of the story, the Overlander hunting Robotnik called him, “Julian, son of Ivo,” rather than “Julian of the house of Ivo.” I guess the writers wanted to clarify that Ivo was a clan name rather than the given name of Daddy Kintobor. 😛
We then got a few pages of new content at the end of Robotnik’s memory dream, when his Swatbots woke him up to inform him that they had captured a test subject for his doomsday weapon. And not just any test subject - an Overlander!
Tumblr media
This person even recognised Robotnik from the old days when he was known as Julian Kintobor - apparently his own people were completely unaware of his transition from fugitive scientist to global dictator. Robotnik gleefully fired the ultimate annihilator prototype at his captive, wiping him from existence.
Tumblr media
But little did he know that Snively was monitoring him and vowing to have the last laugh.
Our next change came in the form of more additional dialogue when Drago caught Tails and Rotor trying to escape.
Tumblr media
This one was easier to spot because the lettering looked a bit different than the rest of the page. This line where Drago threatened to deport Tails and Rotor to a prison settlement in Downunda (I thought it was only the British who did that :P) leads directly into the next few pages of new content showing Bunnie and Antoine’s escape, so it makes sense that it wasn’t in the original edition. No Downunda scene means no need for a reference to Downunda.
Tumblr media
So yeah, next we got to see Bunnie and Antoine escaping from their prison cell, freeing the rest of the Downunda Freedom Fighters, and stowing away on the ore transport ship while Walt and his crew kept Crocbot and his army busy.
Tumblr media
In a void this additional content would have been pretty cool, as Bunnie and Antoine had been dropped into the original version of issue #50 after they’d already arrived back in Robotropolis. But the thing was that if you were reading all the ArchieSonic comics in release order - like I was when I was picking these up back in 1997 - then we’d already seen this, and in more detail. Sonic Super Special #4 had featured a backup story called “Down and Out in Downunda,” which had involved Bunnie and Antoine sitting around a campfire, telling their friends about how they’d escaped the prison camp and gotten back for the big finale.
Tumblr media
That special had been able to dedicate thirteen pages to Bunnie and Antoine’s campfire story, whereas in the issue #50 director’s cut we only got two pages showing their escape and one page showing what they got up to during their shuttle ride home. So by comparison the director’s cut ironically felt more rushed than the original version of this part of the story we had already seen.
Next we got some more additional dialogue in the scene where Sonic and the others are freeing the prisoners in Knothole.
Tumblr media
Once again, this still doesn’t make it clear how Sonic knew that Drago was working with the Swatbots, and the best explanation I can come up with is that Sonic saw him from the air when he was parachuting down into Knothole.
The next update took the story back to Bunnie and Antoine aboard the transport ship, coming across Robotnik’s vlog discussing the Ultimate Annihilator and how his victory was assured.
Tumblr media
Antoine and Bunnie agreed they needed to sabotage this weapon and targeted the transport’s Combot commander, who was carrying a bomb on him. Why did the commander have a bomb? Well if you’d read the Bunnie and Antoine story I mentioned from Super Special #4, you’d know that it was given to him by Crocbot, who had ordered him to blow up Robotnik and his Ultimate Annihilator so that Crocbot could take over Mobius instead.
Tumblr media
But unfortunately they didn’t really have enough space to explain that here in the director’s cut. Like I said before, it feels cramped compared to the original version of this part of the story we had seen. One difference is that while the original story had an alarming zoom in on Robotnik’s evil smile during the vlog, the director’s cut dialed that up to 11.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So there’s that.
Our next update is two pages concentrating on Drago, while running away from Sonic, being confronted by Hershey.
Tumblr media
Despite him currently running for his life he’s dumb enough to fall for her seductive act, at which point she flat out attempts to murder him! Honestly, I’m all for this. Drago is an absolute sleazebag and he definitely had this coming.
Tumblr media
But if you thought it was ridiculous in the original cut of #50 that Drago could outrun Sonic, in this version he had enough time to get seduced, then beaten up, then narrowly avoid having his skull crushed with a boulder, then get up and try to run away again, at which point we returned to the part of the original version of the story where he was knocked unconscious with another rock to the back of his head.
Tumblr media
Next there were a couple of dialogue additions, again noticeable because the lettering was slightly different.
Tumblr media
Yeah, I'm still not entirely sure what's going on in that left panel.
After defeating Snively in the original version of the story, Sonic ran into Bunnie and Antoine - literally - and Sonic told them he was going to confront Robotnik to settle the score. In this version of the story that mostly also happened (Sonic said he was going to buy Antoine and Bunnie time rather than just wanting to punch Robotnik in the nose), but the original Sam Maxwell art was replaced with new art by someone else.
Tumblr media
I can’t tell who though, because while the original version of the story had a handy credits box at the end of the issue showing who wrote and drew each page, the director’s cut doesn’t have that for some reason. The best we got is a list of the contributors on the splash page, but unfortunately it doesn’t specifically credit each page’s artist.
Tumblr media
What we got instead is a couple of additional pages by this artist showing Antoine and Bunnie getting to the cannon just as it was preparing to fire, as well as Sonic reaching Robotnik just as he was about to activate the weapon but being too busy fighting Swatbots to stop him.
Tumblr media
I think that this part is one of the better additions to the director’s cut - we actually get to see Knothole getting blasted by the Ultimate Annihilator rather than just Robotnik pushing a button and gloating about it. We also got to see Antoine and Bunnie planting the bomb and making a run for it before we moved into the big showdown between Sonic and Robotnik.
Tumblr media
By the way, this bomb did absolutely nothing. Well, at least they tried.
Tumblr media
This fight ended with an extra page from Patrick Spaziante, uncoloured, showing Sonic at Robotnik’s throat as they both faded out of reality. And this was followed by an additional page that was completely blank to to really emphasise how they’d both been wiped out before Sonic shwooped back into existence.
Tumblr media
The final change we got to see in the director’s cut was after Sonic had found out that Sally was still alive and had gone to see her. Sally awakening from Sonic pecking her on the cheek was now followed up with a full page smooch. Aww!
Tumblr media
My apologies to any outraged SonAmy fans. xD
Before I get into my analysis of the issue as a whole, I wanted to talk about the Ultimate Annihilator a bit. We didn’t really get to see it in action at all in the original version of Sonic #50, so I decided to save this until I got to the director’s cut. And frankly… I don’t understand how this thing works at all. As portrayed in the director’s cut, the Ultimate Annihilator is a massive cannon that fires a laser upwards to an orbiting satellite, which then redirects that laser back down onto the intended target. Okay, fine so far, that fits the bill for a typical supervillain’s doomsday weapon. But how does that fit with Dr. Quack’s description of how Snively sabotaged it?
So let me see if I have this right - you have to specify who you want to vaporise before you fire this thing at them? That’s a James Bond villain plan right there. And I mean that very literally - the most recent movie, No Time to Die, featured a weapon that was harmless to everyone except those whose DNA was targeted. Huh. Who would have thought that Sonic the Hedgehog would predict the plot of a James Bond movie 25 years in the future? That said, while you could potentially argue that it’s an effective weapon for targeted assassination, it seems a little overly complicated for a tyrannical dictator whose goal is genocide. I just can’t see Robotnik arming this weapon and saying, “Okay Ultimate Annihilator, I’m going to fire you at Knothole now, but make sure you only vaporise the people I’ve specified, okay? No one else!” For that matter, how does the targeting even work for this thing? Does it work on DNA samples, like in No Time to Die? After Robotnik invaded Knothole, did he go, “All right, all of you line up single file! I need to get DNA samples from each of you. …for totally non-evil reasons, I assure you”? If not DNA, then does it work based on individual species? I assume not, because then Snively would have targeted himself as well as Robotnik. Maybe you have to manually enter in the name of every target you want to wipe out? “Snively, get me the Knothole phone directory! Okay let’s see here… Alison the Aardvark… Andrew the Antelope… Antoine D’Coollette… Betty Butterfly- my GOD this is tedious. Snively, why did I design my doomsday weapon like this?!” Did he have to do this same input method for the Overlander he tested the prototype on? We didn’t see him do any kind of preparations like that, unless his Swatbots did it for him while he was still asleep.
One last thing - why did Snively spare Knothole? The only reason it ended up in a pocket dimension was because it wasn’t a target the Ultimate Annihilator was programmed to wipe out, due to Snively’s sabotage. But Robotnik had presumably already programmed whatever it took to target everyone in Knothole. Why not just add Robotnik’s name to the list of targets? I’d presume it would be additional work to remove everyone else that had already been entered, and they were all Snively’s enemies just as much as Robotnik’s. In fact, if Snively had let Knothole be destroyed then he wouldn’t have gotten captured just a few months later when the Freedom Fighters came to reclaim Robotropolis in the Brave New World super special.
Tumblr media
And when he did get captured, you’d have thought he would have brought up the fact that he’d spared their miserable lives, either to try and bargain with them or at least gloat about how he was the only reason they were still alive. Maybe by that stage even Penders realised how dumb it was for Snively to have not let Knothole get wiped out and thought it would be best to not bring it up again. Unfortunately for him, Sonic fans have long memories. 😛
So is the director’s cut of this story better than the original? Well yes, although that Robotnik on the cover will haunt me for the rest of my days. Apart from the three pages of Bunnie and Antoine escaping and getting back to Robotropolis, which I feel doesn’t live up to the more fleshed out version of that story that was told in Super Special #4, almost everything else that was added was an improvement to the original story. The whole thing with Robotnik getting to capture a member of his own species was pretty interesting, and the additional pages we got of the final Sonic vs Robotnik fight were pretty awesome. That doesn’t mean that the story isn’t still full of plotholes, of course - far from it. It’s a very flawed story that makes no sense at all at times, but it’s far from the worst thing that ever appeared in ArchieSonic. If you put the original version of issue #50 side by side with the director’s cut and told me to read one, I’d pick the director’s cut every time.
Okay, I think I’m finally done talking about Endgame now, which is a bit of a relief after dedicating three blog posts to it. Next time I’ll be looking at Knuckles the Echidna issues #30 - 32, which ended up being the finale for that spinoff when the series was cancelled. RIP.

I am confused here because I think the lab being involved in the Byers family situation pretty much explains things better than all of the stuff happening as a consequence. With the 'lab was involved, too' scenario you just have to explain things and expand on them. Because the other scenario too depending on several consequences; Vecna finding out Will's existence on that very same night and ending up lucky that he somehow found (luckily) a person who was similar to him with potential unlocked powers, El somehow recognizing Will as a consequence because that's ''what was expected from her powers'', Brenner onlu faking Will's death and not bothering with the other victim's deaths because the other victims did not matter so it was a consequence. Will somehow manipulating things in the UD because... consequence and random things, it just happened that way plotwise. Like, isn't that worse as a plot explanation?
(rambling incoming)
But you'd need to explain the Byers being completely and totally unaware of anything about the lab at all. That is key here. That is a LOT that they just "oopsie forgot to mention".
It's pretty clear the Byers had no idea about the lab or anything strange in season 1. It's clear Joyce didn't know Brenner or the lab in general while she was there. Lonnie is a deadbeat scumbag living in Indianapolis, too absentee to even sell off his kids.
How do you connect the dots of the Byers being totally oblivious to all this stuff in season 1? I can't wrap my head around this.
Hopper had a whole box of Hawkins lab files under his cabin about all the tests and experiments going on there with Terry and the kids, but he neglected to ever mention Joyce, Lonnie, Will, or Jonathan being wrapped up in all this stuff?
When I read those theories, it just reads as
Joyce/Lonnie got Will involved with the lab
Henry/El meet Will
???
Memory loss arc because none of the Byers have ever acknowledged any connections with the lab. Henry yes. The lab, no.
It might just be a difference in preference, but I find it much more believable that:
Vecna/the Demogorgon was chasing El that night
Either on purpose or accident, switched targets to Will and dragged him into the Upside Down
Upon his capture, discovers Will is a perfect kind of host/sympathizer and spends at least 1 season so far trying to keep Will chained down and will probably do so again
As for El's role in all this, I detailed it in my other post. I concluded the most likely scenario being El saw Will getting kidnapped either in person or through her mind's eye. All we can say for sure is that she recognized him. They can't have known each other or met more than once because we can't ignore the fact that Will did not know her prior and continues not to know her for another whole season.
This mixture of coincidence/accident turned into purposeful action on Henry's part makes a lot more sense to me.
Imagine this scenario.
It's in the middle of covid. You're confined to your house but you REALLY want this cool fancy cup you found online. You order the cup. They deliver the wrong cup. You're annoyed but you decide to use the cup anyway. Come to find out, this wrong cup is actually super awesome. Maybe it's not as expensive and cool as the cup you wanted, but it suits you just fine. Every now and then, the delivery driver tries to break into your house and take your cup back and eventually they succeed. It pisses you off because you actually liked that wrong cup and want it back. You still don't have the actual cup you originally ordered so you just sit in your house pissed off, trying to find ways to get back at the delivery driver for taking your wrong cup. Something like that.
That is how I think this situation happened.
Henry wanted El. He sent his delivery driver (the demogorgon) to get her. The Demogorgon delivered the wrong kid. Henry accepted it and just went with it and came to found out, this kid is also pretty good for what he wanted to do. He smacked a "MY PROPERTY" stamp on Will's forehead and got pissed when they took him back. Cue the rest of the series.
I think people who believe absolutely EVERYTHING that happened to Will was an accident are wrong. I also don't think the Byers have been involved in all this from the very start, it's too much missing information to fill in.
I don't remember the exact wording, but in the scripts it said something like, "Not siblings by blood, but by circumstances". That one line explains the entirety of WillEl and Will's involvement in this stuff.
You know how El is the fish out of water when it comes to normal every life? Well Will is the opposite. He's the fish out of water when it comes to the Upside Down mess and lab stuff. Living a normal life with friends and family was not El's reality. But it's her reality now. The lab/Henry was not Will's story, but it's becoming his story whether he likes it or not.
I know ST has plotholes and stuff they fill in after the fact, but it's usually to the benefit of a story they're trying to tell. They added onto El's backstory to explain the man behind the Mind Flayer. The backstory of the lab and them being trapped there together and him pushing her to her limits and getting banished to the Upside Down... that's crucial stuff that NEEDED the lab to be involved. (I'm of the firm belief subject 0 or 1 was always planned, though they could've executed it better)
Will being tied to the lab isn't necessary in comparison. You'd not only have to explain why he'd be there in the first place, but also his parents. To our knowledge, Hawkins publicly accepted adults for MKUltra.
I think in the books, it specifically states adults without dependents/children are eligible so Joyce would've been rejected and so would Lonnie (books are only half canon so eh). MKUltra was performed on adults. The child program was secret. Those kids weren't recruited off the street, they were taken under extraordinary circumstances and even reported missing.
You'd have to introduce an entirely new subplot like "So, actually when Will was younger they gave parents money to bring their kids in for some tests. And Joyce/Lonnie did this once. He met El and Henry. And then nothing happened and everyone forgot about the lab and the weird test they went to take."
Or "Joyce was a part of MKUltra or almost was but then returned to a normal life after" when we know good and well Brenner is not above kidnapping newborn infants from his previous test subjects. Will 100% would've been taken just like El.
Instead, just saying "Will quite literally got wrapped up in all of this due to mistaken identity -a common occurrence between him and El btw- and has never known peace since because the mistaken identity situation actually lead to actual similarities between the two." makes the most sense, connects all the dots, and doesn't need the writers to write a contrived reason why Will was already involved with the lab before.
It'd be like you met someone on the street and they look just like you. You joke around like "What if we were long lost siblings lol" and then it turns out you actually are. Not saying Will and El are blood related, just that concept of something so surface level ending up being deeper.
How I see it, Will and El's stories are almost exactly the same but in reverse. El's life started in the lab/supernatural and it's slowly becoming more normal. Will's life was completely normal and now it's been slowly seeping into the supernatural.
El was kidnapped by the lab/Brenner. Will was kidnapped by the Upside Down/Henry.
El's story has been about her building it up piece by piece, gaining everything in life she lacked. Will's life, while not great, was once whole and has been falling apart piece by piece in comparison.
When El was with the group, Will was missing. When Will was in the group, El was missing.
To me, if Will's backstory is tied into the lab, the very foundations that make Will and El mirror images of each other weakens.

okay so first time visiting on desk top and can i just say <3<3<3 ship cursor. anyway onto what icame to ask: do you think doc made mai do punitive academic work? what do you think her literacy level is? im imagining her having to write out words a bunch of times or lookup definitions and write them untill a 'perfect' replication. vicious spelling tests.
OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY buzzing and rubbing my hands together like a fly
under the cut bc while it’s not incredibly lengthy it might be annoying to scroll past
that’s something i think about a lot, and even more so in recent days so this is like. perfect. the ancestors fans hivemind is real
anyways little mai’s case is. strange. but the most analogous situations to a childhood spent growing up on the moon + not being around anyone Like Her + being locked in a room + abused and deprived of care do not typically yield. someone useful for what lord english/doc scratch need. however mai seems very intellectually developed! which means doc scratch is. doing something for her.
scratch said his lessons emphasized obedience, mastery of the clockwork majyyks, and (of course) being locked in a room. but these lessons (aside from the locked in the room part obvi) would have been the only socialization little mai ever got, and there is no world for her to explore and learn about through experience so literally almost everything about anything that she knew would’ve had to have been taught to her by scratch. so those lessons probably included a bunch of other stuff as well
okay sorry i think i started a little far off my b >.< but to answer your first question: yeah sure! it would be a good chance to stretch her brain muscles while also being unfun. seems very on brand
only communicating (or being talked at by, there doesn’t seem to be much real communication between the two) with doc scratch probably lends her a nicely well rounded vocabulary in that tongue, or at least a knack for deciphering meaning from context clues. i’ve most likely said this somewhere before but i tend to think mai had trouble learning to speak but that’s only tangentially related lol!!
as for literacy. i guess the question is what language? probably the one doc scratch speaks but what language IS that lol. like everyone in hs speaks english despite there apparently being an alternian language? urghh anyway considering mai’s job takes her everywhere and everywhen, realistically literacy probably. doesn’t help with her work. but neither does doc scratch’s language so. maybe she is literate and doc scratch sometimes lets her read any books that might be in the apartment?
homestuck logic probably says different and that’s fair tbh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
i can’t say i have a real opinion on her literacy level. if she can read and write, it’s probably not her strong suit? if she can’t, cool. she’s jared, 1900, never learned how to read. literacy, while helpful, isn’t necessary for the aforementioned intellectual development. but it would be really, really helpful since, again, there’s no way for her to learn things through experience. but then again if there’s nothing/very little for her to read.. the spiral
re: work her role doesn’t require strategic manipulation or a delicate touch (that’s doc scratch) so how much would really benefit her jobwise beyond those obedience and majyyks lessons ?? that’s why they were emphasized ig..?
but mai did have an ENTIRE childhood so i’d say anything is fair game!! there’s a lot to think about when trying to reconcile an at least mostly normally developed girl with her being raised in a very small world that would grow stale quickly, especially without anything new/stimulating. there must have been SOME enrichment in her enclosure and your ideas are a fun way to go about that!! pls don’t let anything i’ve said here make you think otherwise lol bc the things you mentioned are the Worst in a very mundane way that fit extremely well into what we already know
cutting myself off here ✌️ tysm for sharing!!!!

Do your muses like each other? What are their relationships with other muses on your blog?
(from) ― // @60104
im about to be stupid on main and you're just going to have to deal with it ig.
Tumblr media
jean and erwin have a very special dynamic in my heart. erwin absolutely saw immense potential in jean, but it went beyond that. in the au where my erwin experiences heavy character development ( particularly pretraining to relationships and vulnerability ) , erwin's character development accidentally directly influences jean to start shedding his 'real men r tuff real men dont show vulnerability' frame of mind. tldr: erwin becomes an all-around good healthy male role model for jean.
but im not diving deeply into this one today. i'll be diving into other nonsense.
we all know mike and erwin got along, and that eld respected erwin a lot so i'll keep it short. mike was a very angry guy when he was younger and erwin is one of the people who helped him channel / re-direct that anger into something worthwhile. eld was very nihilistic until he met people like erwin and mike, and he was always very open to hearing what erwin had to say even when others made fun of him ( esp in their first year as cadets ). erwin could be a weird / intense guy sometimes, but he was so genuine and enthusiastic about his thoughts like... erwin really cared? like, eld thought erwin was just shooting the shit at first but then he realized that erwin actually cares about figuring stuff out? he actually CARES? it made eld cry ( privately ofc bc men don't cry ) because he didn't know people like that truly existed.
mike is very protective and patient with eld because he sees the younger version of himself in him a little bit. ilse has a brother / sister relationship with eld and his demeanor reminds her a lot of the brother she lost. gunther is the ideal bad cop to ilse's good cop and they figured this out pretty early on. marlene and eld are always testing gunther's patience, but only marlene gets genuinely offended by gunther sometimes. ( gunther probably has a huge crush on marlene, if i'm honest - there's just smth about the dynamic of a character who is v ok with taking risks and dying bc they see their death as a glory thing x a character who is cautious and wants to go tf home and doesn't think there's any glory in dying ).
i have a brotp with marlene + ilse + hange ( i write hange privately ). ilse is v much the 'guys i support u and all but lets remember the Geneva convention yea?' person of the team. marlene isn't as curious as hange and ilse. ( at first ) hange and marlene care less about the ''greater'' good than ilse. hange found out ilse used to work at a hospital and was delighted when ilse let her borrow her illustrated v graphic anatomy books. marlene thinks she needs to be a hardass and a cool girl: ilse can very easily see through her façade like ( marlene reminds ilse of her living brother ) and hange couldn't give less of a shit about any of that, so hange and ilse both offer a safe space for marlene to be who she is whoever that is no pressure. marlene thinks hange is a weirdo but is promptly down to clown with ANY of hange's ideas more often than not. ilse doesn't think hange is a weirdo and is often down to clown with hange's ideas if they don't affect anyone apart from the three of them but if they do she's the only saying 'pause. lets think this out shall we?" because sometimes it seems like there's only 1 braincell between the three of them and after hange does all the creative thinking it promptly jumps to ilse. it's just a fun and wholesome dynamic, especially as they get older and are pulled in different directions and establish connections with other characters, but always touch base with each other. well. at least they did until ilse got eaten and marlene got yeeted.
ty for coming to my ted talk.

HC that Peni Parker’s DNA is what allows Neon J to make robots that physically grow and age like humans
While that is something that is entirely possible, I don't think Neon J would be the one to do so. He is good with machines, not DNA and other bio-stuff like that. He works with a team of doctors and other engineers to help improve cybernetics, it's not just him.
However! I do think Peni (or other newer elementals popping up) would be the key to making more advanced biotech. Especially ones that grow and change with the user (and would help robots as well who want to change in a way that is more "natural" in a nature way and not mechanical).
Peni is still a minor though, so I don't think it would be ethical to use her in any kind of experiments. Honestly I can see kits aunt and uncle allowing the experiments to happen, like signing off wavers and stuff, but if Peni didn't want it and Neon was on the board or helping handle the situation, then he would put a stop to the experiments.
If Peni did want to help out, I can see him being hesitant to allow such a young person to be put in this kind of situation. Neon would do his best to make sure Peni isn't taken advantage of or hurt as they do research on her DNA and body (as I doubt it would be as easy as taking a sample and doing tests on blood or something).
If Neon just outright refuses to work with minors, then most likely the other people he works with are also going to refuse (as Neon is probably lead engineer as well as paying for a majority of the research thanks to 1010 being Megastars and he their manager).
In that case, Peni's uncle and aunt would take kit to an entirely different cybertech company. Probably not Vandelay since by this time Roxanne would be back in charge and would also not do experiments on a kid.
What would be cool is if they went to the UK and had Peni be experimented on that major robotics company. I don't have a name for them as it's just a thing I made and not based on any media. However, this specific company doesn't do a lot of cybernetic stuff, it does enough but is not on the same level as Vandelay or J-1 (or whatever company J-1 is partnered with).
This company would absolutely jump at the chance to dive deeper into cybertech and potentially make new advancements in biotech. So eager in fact that some of their stuff probably wouldn't be super ethical unfortunately. And with Peni being a minor, if kits aunt and uncle allow for these experimentation, they most likely will happen.
There is a chance that Peni's maternal side of her family see her and reach out, as they are still in the UK, but they might not even really know much about Peni.
This could be where Asa comes in and recognizes Peni (as he had met her when she came to Vinyl City with the rest of the Arachnikids), and he could be the reach out to Peni to help her gain autonomy from her aunt and uncle (and you better believe the moment Hobie senses something is wrong, they would be willing to take on this company to help protect Peni).
Honestly this could be a super fun little story to talk about if we go down this direction. I still have an OC band I want to make, who would have been connected to this robotics company (many of them have cybernetics or are robots from the company), so they could help Ex-Jay, Hobie, and Yinu/Mama (Yinu being friends with Peni would make these two help fight to get kit out of being experimented on against kits will) with coming up with a plan to save Peni.
Most likely what will happen is Peni works with Neon J and his company, as they are the most advanced when it comes to cybertech in the world and probably the closest to developing major biotech, and Peni would be the push needed to get over the hurdle they have been stuck on for years.
Though, like I said, there is always a chance Neon would put Peni's well being above any technological advancement (even if Peni truly wanted to help out and even pushed for it), which would unfortunately lead Peni down the rabbit hole of going to the UK Robotics Company. And this company out of the three (Vandelay, J-1, and "UK Robotics") is probably the furthest behind in terms of cybernetics, so they would be playing loose and dangerous to try and catch up using Peni as a guinea pig.
If it goes down that route, I can see Peni still going to Neon wanting to help after being released/saved (even with all the trauma). Mainly because she does trust Neon to keep kit safe and to do what is right. Peni really wants to help other people and so still pushes to be used to advance cyber- and biotech (especially after knowing Yinu's dad could have been saved with cybernetics had he lived just another year or two).
At that point, Neon would relent and make a plan to use Peni in and ethical and safe manner to push through cybernetics into biotech.

She was born to a family of fallen angels mixed with Demons and essentially lived in yk—Hell— for the most of her childhood, effectively desensitizing her from almost anything in the upper worlds. When she was 16 she was appointed as a Fighter of Hell (FoH for short) by the Devil themself
Recently my lore for the Devil has been heavily impacted by The Sandman. So picture the wonderful Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer/ the Devil.
She quickly became a favorite in Hell because she was just that cool because she was a very strong fighter and had a lot of will to keep fighting for her purpose. She was pretty much raised fighting from her father teaching her from as soon as she could walk. She was constantly training—more like torturing herself— to get better. If she messed up she’d simply throw herself against the nearest hard surface until she felt the pain was equal to how much she failed.
For reference, her parents did not raise her to do that. She just started doing it out of the need to be perfect at everything ever.
When she was 19 she was allowed to travel worlds, meaning she could go to the upper worlds and hang out with the mortals and stuff. She had to hide all of her non-human traits. Such as the funky coloured eyes, wings, horns, and tail (though she usually just wore loose pants or skirts to hide it instead of making it disappear (very uncomfortable))
She started training as a guard in O’Khasis and quickly moved up ranks. But she soon realized she needed to go by a different name because her name sounded far too foreign in O’Khasis. So she chose a name;
Katherine Sinae (sign-aye)
In actuality her full name was
Katherine Rikovna, a last name common for absolutely nobody in O’Khasis.
She moved up ranks in her guard school and was eventually scouted by the Jury of Nine and was initiated into it at the age of 21. She met with the High Priest to discuss her abilities, and He discovered she had the ability to wield fire. So, they chose her Jury Title. Most Jurors go by different first names, and in the end it was chosen.
Hence the beginning of her journey as an Elite Member of The Jury of Nine; Katelyn the FireFist.
The training for the Jury wasn’t too bad in comparison to actual Hell. Her pain tolerance had been high to begin with, and her training in her homeland certainly hadn’t lowered it. She saw getting stabbed or injured simply as an inconvenience, rather than a life-threatening issue.
After her first term in the Jury (10 years) she had made her way to 2nd Juror. She would never be 1st Juror—that spot has been Janus the Silver Deaths for many years, and she had no intention of trying to take it from them.
The 3rd Juror was none other than Ivy the Venom Scythe.
While Janus went on assignments alone, the rest of the Jury was required to have a Buddy; the person next to them in rank.
So Ivy and Katelyn went on all their assignments together, burning down villages, poisoning water supply—everything.
Ivy soon showed distaste in staying in the Jury, and convinced Katelyn to feel the same. They began plotting their way out, along with recruiting other Jurors, such as Jeffory the Golden Heart, and every other Juror who had common sense. (Which is all of them.)
They began to have secret meetings regarding their escapes. Katelyn and Ivy were to go on a boat to Phoenix Drop and send in their letters of resignation from the safety of across the seas.
On the day of the plan, Ivy was called to the High Priests’ office. Where she was assigned a different assignment, one that nobody could know about. She was to leave immediately, without anyone knowing where she was.
She had to abandon her hopes of leaving the Jury with Katelyn in Phoenix Drop.
Katelyn was left unaware that Ivy would not be joining her until she was about to get on the boat, where a guard told her she was going on the assignment alone—as a test of strength.
Now, if there’s one thing you shouldn’t do. It is to seemingly abandon a Demon. Grudges will be held, and threats will be promised to come true.
This grudge would continue until a special someone showed up in Phoenix Drop a 15 years later. A special someone named Ivy. (The scene goes very differently in my mind—stabby stabby and then kissy kissy)
Katelyn grows tired of hiding her non-human traits, but is too scared to tell the people she has been around for many years that she is in fact a Demon From Hell and decides simply to suffer.
One day she wakes up in complete and utter agony. She opens her eyes and sees Ivy looking extremely pale and shocked,
“What?”
“You look different.”
“As do you, Ivy.”
“No, for fucks sake Katelyn. You look…not very human.”
“Oh.”
“Holy shit—your eyes—what the fuck. Is this what you were talking about when you said you were a-“
“Shut it. I need to get out of here before anyone wakes up.”
And so she wrote a letter that she and Ivy were needing to do something for a few days at a mystery location, and then Katelyn very nicely invited Ivy to come to Hell for a few days.
“Will I burn? I already get sunburns easily—I don’t want…Hell Burns”
“No, it’s cold. Most you could get is frostbite.”
“Huh…”
“Most people expect it to be hot. It’s cold most of the time.”
“That goes against everything the Books say.”
“The Books are wildly inaccurate. Are you coming or not?”
“Is that a portal?”
“Kind of, now—hold on tight.”
Ivy met Katelyns family and was absolutely baffled when she caught a glimpse of The Devil.
“Welcome back, Katherine.”
“Thank you. My lord, it is good to be back.”
“I see you brought a friend…who are they?”
“Ah. This is Ivy—yes, a friend—my lord”
“Hello! I’m the friend—Ivy—"
She was also baffled at what Katelyn actually looked like.
“Holy shit, can I touch your wings?”
“No.”
“Tail?”
“Absolutely not.”
“Horns?”
“Maybe later.”
Ivy was then enlightened on the topic of how touching someone’s wings, tail, or horns, can be seen as very intimate.
After three days, and Katelyn no longer being in agony, they went back to the upper world.
If I say any further I fear I won’t stop, so I’ll stop here!! It’s more Katevy and Jury lore, but the demon aspect is in there if you squint!!!

phantom can you pls tell me about dissection. its not a thing here, and part of me is relieved but another part of me really wishes i could see some guts. pls tell how its like pls pls pls
Well, I don’t know how big of a thing it is here since I’ve only participated in two dissections in school lol. A lot of other people got to do like pig hearts or other organs like that but I don’t know what schools they went to or what science track they took bc admittedly I had biology during distance learning and took chem last year. I just happened to take anatomy this year bc I did NOT want to take physics but I really like this class.
I’ve never talked about the dissection we just did in detail bc it feels idk weird to talk about on tumblr bc of what we dissected it grosses a lot of people out so uh idk
Tw for animal death and talking about like dead stuff ig
We dissected cats which was super shocking to everyone tbh but I was super excited bc I like dissecting things. Dude I get so cocky about loving gore and stuff and being okay with dead stuff or whatever.
The first day of dissection my teacher was trying to demonstrate something and needed a volunteer and because I’m cocky n everything I volunteered and she had me hold the (wrapped in a plastic bag) cat, and these cats are skinned already to save us some time bc otherwise we would’ve had to skin them. So they didn’t have skin. I’ve never seen dead animals like this. Especially not a dead cat. She had me hold it. Lua I almost passed out I had to lean against the counter (I didn’t pay attention to what she was saying). It’s a little funny but ooohhhh that was a feeling.
Since it’s for like anatomy class we obviously had to do like anatomy stuff n like these cats were skinned which is. Very weird. And also preserved so like smells like chemicals. One dude in my group literally did not touch the cat once while I was the one consistently manhandling it LOL I would pick it up and move it around when putting it away n stuff. It was kinda heavy too. Like that was a workout.
The reason we did cats was bc the muscles r most similar to human muscles and my high school anatomy teacher unfortunately cannot get human cadavers lol.
It was really fun tho I really really enjoyed it except for being tested on it, that kinda sucked. It was also not necessarily a competition but me n the other girl in my group were both so into it so it was a constant back and forth of taking turns cutting stuff that we had to cut. Cutting off the fascia from the muscles was genuinely kinda fun except when we don’t know what to cut </3
But opening it up was genuinely the most fun part bc mmmmmmmmmmm organs. It was so. Full. And the abdominal cavity just opened right up and I was so surprised that nothing was really like attached to the wall or anything, I expected it to be similar to the fascia on the muscles but it just opened it up and oh, organs. It was super cool. The small intestines felt so mmmmmmm.
They felt good to run your fingers through and they fell together against each other easily where they were supposed to be. Everything fit together. We also had to break the ribs open to get the thoracic cavity open (mmmmmmm bones) but we just cut through the sternum which was a jarring feeling bc that doesn’t seem like you should be able to cut it open like that!!! But ooouuughhhh yea it changed me.
I have pictures but I’m not gonna post them for obvious reasons </3
It was such an interesting experience I loved it so much getting to see inside. Our superior vena cava got blown out when they were preserving the cat so we didn’t have that in ours LOL. They injected dye into the veins and arteries so we could tell the difference. There’s something so… visceral about scraping at the internal dorsal wall of a cat, the intestines pushed out the way and your gloves covered in loose tissue and digging for the veins/arteries to separate them. I wonder if I have a pic of the veins bc I got them SO clean and well defined it. Ough. Thinking of the veins.
I’ve only other dissected a worm so I’ve not done it often but the cat dissection we did was so much fun. I cut open the trachea at the end and that was. An experience. I have a very distinct imagined feeling of what it would feel like to sink your teeth into a trachea just from that experience. Sawing it open sounded similar to running your nail down the teeth of a comb. It was weird. And just a hollow tube.
:) it was fun :) I wish I could do it again

Well, for how I feel about the Jancy of s4 and the gross and unnecessary Stancy shipteasing, see previous post (ask response). For s4 in general I’ll say... vol 2 was better than vol 1. S4 was better than s3. But it’s really not good, I think.
There’s just way too many locations and characters. It sidelines a bunch of characters which I ranted about here before. The Cali crew (sans El) barely got do anything at all to do with the plot. We got some nice character moments, esp between Jonathan and Will in vol 2. But plot wise they had nothing to do. Jonathan just got to drive for 9 episodes. Mike got to “be the heart” aka yell encouragement to El. Will got to... tell Mike to do that. And together they got to do a rehash of the sensory deprivation tank in s1. And at the end Will got to have a little UD tingle moment. It’s ridiculous that main characters who were at the heart and center of the show before was reduced to this in s4 while walking Russian memes and new mains like Eddie got more to do.
The bigness in terms of abundance of characters and locations also throws the pacing off. Especially in ep 9 when there’s so much stuff that’s supposed to happen simultaneously but bc they go from Nancy/Robin/Steve to El/Max vs Vecna to Cali crew to Russia gang to Lucas fighting the jock to Eddie and Dustin with the odd sprinkle of Erica too, there’s like at least a half hour between Nancy/Robin/Steve getting choked by vines to us seeing them again... still being choked. I get they’re very proud of their big action sequence and in theory I think them all fighting the Hive Mind on different fronts is a neat idea but the execution is lacking, I’m just like how are the guys in the Creel house not dead yet El is taking her sweet time doing anything in the Mind Scape etc.
There’s other pacing problems too but this was where it most jumped out to me. I think it worked way better in s1 and s2 when they also had simultaneous plans going into action but not to this scale and it worked better then I feel.
There’s some interesting UD and Vecna stuff though idk if it makes sense really but hey, maybe they’ll pull it all together in s5. But right now I still have a lot of questions about why Henry is who he is, why he had powers and why he decided “i’mma be super evil” like are we gonna get more of a motivation than “I hate 9 to 5 eat work die lifestyle” lol? Also why did he tell Nancy everything? I suppose they’re saving that for s5 but. The border between the real world and the UD disappearing is a neat concept, I think that can be really cool. On the other hand I’m having trouble wrapping my head around the logic of one dimension overtaking another but I’m willing to run with it.
As an aside, I’m not wild about turning to using another test subject as the big bad, just on principle I always thought the test subjects would be innocent victims. But how they changed up all that background about the Lab and retconned a bunch of stuff in s4 turned into... yeah. Idk. On the other hand I totally see the appeal of Vecna as a villain, I’m just torn.
Also I don’t see the point in the Russia stuff. Yeah I get it, the Cold War was going on. But I think they could’ve just used Russia as a looming but unseen threat, it’s enough with the supernatural threats + the US government as a threat.
Speaking of, the portrayal of the US government from s2 and on is really weird. How they humanize it with Owens and now have turned into internal conflicts, Owens vs Brenner vs Sullivan, it’s really weird. Esp Owens part of it, why is there randomly this super friendly uncle in the shady covert government operations and why is he so completely selfless and willing to sacrifice and save El and her friends, why does he care so much?
Btw goddamn what a choke hold Coca Cola has Stranger Things in, that product placement at the end with El spinning the bottle. I don’t get why she had to spin a bottle at all was it just to get a prominent COKE logo in there?
Positives uh... aside from cute Jancy reunion:
Jonathan and Will talking and hugging and Jonathan clearly knowing Will is gay and seemingly Will knows Jonathan knows, that was all nice but eh couldn’t they have let Will say it please?
Nancy being a fucking badass.
The little Nancy and Max scenes we got in s4 was great, why couldn’t we get more of that instead of all the needless Stancy shipteasing moments? Stancy is long dead, you could’ve just focus on Nancy and Steve both having a lot of nice bonding with everyone else in their plot (and be completely fine, platonic and not weird with each other).
Joyce got to hug both her sons this time lol. Still can’t believe Winona asked the Duffers if she could hug Jonathan too at the end of s3 but got “there’s no time for that” as answer. There was time for the most overlong, unnecessary, excruciating musical moment in tv history, but not for Joyce Byers to hug both her sons.
Lucas and Max was great this season both individually and together. I’m never into kid ships but Lumax might be an exception to the rule, they’re very sweet together.

Grab Bag Doodles
I haven't been doodling too much lately. Mostly everything I've drawn I've finished or it's a part of a bigger project that I don't want to post. So... yeah. Kinda had to scramble for some stuff, but nonetheless I hope you'll enjoy me rambling for a bit.
1) Kun3h0 Head Logo. I made this an alternate graphic to take the place of the word logo if need be. I think it's pretty cute.
2-3) Kun3h0 Doodles. She takin' a sippy. Yeah, I kinda wrote myself into a corner saying that Kun3h0's mouth is a screen (to explain why it's white when she opens her mouth), but I'm gonna say it just slides out of the way when she needs to refill her coolant tanks or otherwise needs to access the inside of her head.
4-5) Nekoko Base Tests. So one project I was working on was preparing a new base for HONK because the Yomi project is just not working out for me. I chose an old OC, Nekoko, for the test because she's one of the only OCs I have that kinda suits the "traditional" anime character mold. But I dunno how far I'm gonna take this because I started questioning what the utility of a blank PNGtuber base even is. If you're already capable of drawing, which you need to be able to do to use the base, then there is zero reason to use the base XP. The only way I can see this being actually useful is if I add a bunch of premade parts to it and essentially turn it into a character creator, which is a lot of work. I dunno, maybe I'll still put it together, but I do honestly believe that this has been a futile project from the very beginning.
6) I'm Your Number 1 Fan, Sketch. The original sketch for that piece. It was supposed to be slightly animated and a little more sinister in nature, with all the artists getting crossed off one-by-one and the background getting a little darker every time. I think it's still a cool idea, but a lack of thumbnailing really bit me in the butt: Kliff's pose was already locked in, but by the time I started adding all the artist portraits, I realized that his hand was gonna get covered, so it became way too busy in that area, so I just replaced the idea with the Kliff emojis. Maybe I'll come back to this idea thematically, though.
7) The Troll Slaiyers. Some stupid ass bullshit that I'm probably not gonna finish because I just cannot bring myself to put serious effort into memes. All the portrait art is traced from in-game talksprites. None of the colors are color picked to give it a shittier quality.

8) ???. Hey, for making it this far, here's a secret sketch! No, the image isn't broken, I pixelated it on purpose because it's a part of a "secret" project. Well, it's not my secret, and I'm not even sure if it's supposed to be a secret (I guess I could have just asked XP), but this character belongs to someone else, and I don't want to post anything about it until it becomes public. Originally, it started as a potential test for the PNGtuber base I was working on. I did several different characters to see how well the proportions translated to characters of other styles. I even did a Kun3h0 test, but she seems weird without her really long legs XP. Anyway, I did this one because their proportions are a little more different (having shorter limbs and a very different head shape) and I just started sketching more ideas for it because I think they're a very fun character. Hopefully that project will become public someday, so I can share more of the art and doodles I've done for it, but till then, I guess this is okay.
