Alastor's enjoyment of Vox in 666 is through an extremely sadomasochistic lens, and he and Vox work well enough together because Vox pines obsessively and wants to give himself to Alastor in ways that anyone an iota more normal would consider to be really unhealthy, and also because Alastor allows Vox liberties under the assumption that Vox is beneath him in every way that matters. Lucifer would take one look at that shit and go, "This! This is the literal epitome of why hell is a horrible place and everyone in it is a horrible person! What the fuck!"

I am thinking hard about the parallel between the dusk & fearne conversation about chetney ("chetney said I was trying to kill your parents and then he said he'd help me! what the fuck?"/ "it's okay, he won't. it's just his personality and sense of humor") and pate & laudna's conversation about ashton ("he's threatening me!"/ "he's threatening you? no, no, that's how ashton makes friends. they're very friendly. it's just how they say they care")

I always say that I don't like horror but Candela Obscura has forced me to reevaluate the truth of that statement to certain degrees.

Particularly Chapter 3, which keeps violently reigniting my inner Torchwood fangirl and like, yeah, alright, maybe I do enjoy some elements of horror. Anyway can't wait to be traumatized by whatever happens after the break tomorrow!
