Lou Reed - Charlton Athletic Football Club, London, United Kingdom, May 18, 1974
Yesterday, we heard that back in 1974 Brian Eno had checked out Lou Reed's blondes have more fun Sally Can't Dance tour. And Brian did not like it! But let's not take his word for it — let's check out one of the shows that Eno likely attended for ourselves. This mega "summer jam" stadium gig must've been one of Lou's biggest crowds yet; he was on a bill that included Humble Pie, Lindisfarne, Montrose, Dave Mason, Bad Company and headliners The Who. Strange bedfellows for Lou, I suppose (Is this the only time Lou and Sammy Hagar crossed paths?! Probably not), but hey it was 1974.
In spite of the sunlight, Reed is wide awake during his abbreviated festival set, roaring enthusiastically through a few new SCD numbers along with a few older tunes. Eno complained of Danny Weis' long, funky guitar solos and well, yeah — there are a lot of those. But they're pretty fun, for the most part. Who among us wouldn't crack a smile during the outrageous "Sweet Jane" intro? The entire band adds a certain rhythmic bounce to everything, something that was missing a bit from the lumbering Rock and Roll Animal ensemble.
Most of these players wouldn't last long in the Lou-niverse, with one big exception: keyboardist Michael Fonfara would become Reed's right-hand man for the remainder of the decade. He gets a chance to shine on the centerpiece: a long, doomy "Heroin" with Lou hamming it up over the church organ keys. Our hero does seem to be having a blast — not always the case for 1974 — adding groovy ad libs, egging on his band and I'm sure dancing up a storm. Doing the Ostrich, perhaps? "London — are you kidding me?!" he asks at one point. It's no joke. The crowd sounds into it.
Of course, they were probably all biding their time for the main event — The Who! We can enjoy their set too ... on video! Some serious Keith Moon hijinks here.

What’s Devan to do when he learns the sword was stolen in order to defeat Tan? Save the poor fools from utter annihilation.
Tan is not amused by this quest line. Devan can’t stop laughing.

Currently reading: Emma Mieko Candon's "Star Wars Visions: Ronin". I'm massively homesick for sw visions in ways i can't even describe and this book is really helping me curb some of that homesickness. bastard babyman dude for the win.
Currently watching: i simultaneously started Santa Clarita Diet and Sweet Tooth at the same time and so far i'm in absolute love with SCD, like i hold so much affection for its trope breaking storylines that i put on one episode, i scream from start to finish, i put on the next episode, rinse and repeat.
Sweet Tooth i find unbelievably endearing with very intriguing plot points and fuckloads of potential, but it's got that fundemental jaded and bitter millenial worldview that is so rampant in the american superhero stories, so i'm thinking of giving it a rest.
Currently consuming: eucalyptus cold candies. And dried&salted orange slices. to my throat i'd like to say i'm sorry

Kate and Aljaž, Quickstep, 30 points:
It was cute, I liked the wedding theme and Kate is definitely better at Ballroom than Latin. It was pretty good technically but I think I'm missing some spark form Kate that I get from others. It probably comes from lack of a performance background so I don't know how much longer she will stay in the competition. Her marks are getting better but she's only just got a 30 which isn't really good enough. Tonight is an American Smooth to a cracking song which is more to her strengths but Blackpool is a big place to perform in so she really needs to up her performance level to fill the space.

Yaaaas Graeme! I don't know why he was in the bottom two cos I loved it! Let me know when you can Salsa on a treadmill!!! It was full of content, full of performance and his lifts were really good (I don't think he got enough credit for them)! Okay there were a few mistakes but in the Dance-off, he really gave it everything and it was so good. Graeme isn't the best dancer and he's never going to be but you cannot fault his energy and commitment. Tonight is Theatre/Jazz which I really think he could thrive at. The rehearsal footage looks really good so I'm pretty hopeful at the moment.

I don't know what the hell Shirley was looking at cos it was brilliant! Those 8 consecutive spins at the begging were amazing and it was just a really well done, classic Jive. What is so wrong with that?? I do feel that Ashley is getting more praise then Faye when Faye is just as good and she hasn't had the training that Ashley has. Harrumph. Tonight is a Paso Doble and I’m so excited as Pasos at Blackpool are usually AMAZING!!!

Waltzes are really hard to make interesting as they're so slow and you only really have 3 steps to choose from. I wouldn't call Stacey’s Waltz exciting but it was just really nice with really good technique. She always looks stunning as well and you can't beat a big, poofy dress for a Waltz. Tonight is a 90s Salsa which I’m sure she’ll smash. Joe McFadden did a 90s Salsa at Blackpool last year and look what happened to him.....
Joe and Diane, Samba, 32 points:
It was a good Samba but I didn't get he whole 90s/Hanson/festival feel. I don't think it worked as a concept. I’e said before, to make an AMAZING dance, everything has to marry together and I just don't think that this did. Not Joe’s fault, he's still a great dancer, it just didn't gel for me. He seems to be equally as good at Ballroom and Latin and tonight is a Quickstep. Quicksteps at Blackpool can be amazing as you have soooo much floor to be able to cover and the floor is sprung so you get some extra lift as you move. I’m looking forward to this one.

Yes it was technically good and it was her highest score but I’m just not getting Lauren. I need more performance and character and I’ve been saying this every week!! She has definitely grown in confidence which is nice to see but I’m just left wanting after all of her dances. Tonight is an Argentine Tango and she has to BRING IT!!!! You cannot do this dance half-heartedly, you have to be FIERCE and I just don't know if she has it in her. I hope to be pleasantly surprised but I'm not holding my breath.

Well where did that come from? Maybe having his name in the dance did help?!? He seems to be either amazing or terrible and nothing in-between. It wasn't the best Charleston I’ve ever seen but it was pretty good. He had good timing and synchronicity and his lifts were good too. I’m not sure about his Samba tonight as his Latin hasn't been too good but you can never tell with Charles...
Eliminated Couple - Danny and Amy, Samba, 27 points:
Danny Danny Danny. He seemed to be getting worse! Your meant to improve each week. It feels like he did a great Jive and then gave up. It was a fine Samba from the was it down but his whole upper body was completely still and in Samba you need to be undulating all the time. I think the stuff in the papers didn't help his voting although that shouldn't have made a difference. I’m extremely disappointed that he didn't show up for ITT. He let down his fans, Amy and himself by not turning up. SCD can do wonders for your profile and get you some really i treating work. No one will want to work with him if they think that he's difficult but he's made his bed so he will have to Samba in it.

The nice thing is, so far at least, Last Shot is not full of Tropes Mac Hates.
It’s even moderately entertaining. So far anyway. (What does it say about Disney Star Wars that I hedge this?)
Han Solo struggling with how to be a good father is probably solidly YMMV, but so far at least it’s staying short of irritating for me. Sadly, while “Present Day” Han is all right, mopey young Han is just boring.
Fortunately, Sana Starros (who I did not like in the comics, partly because I haaaaaaate women fighting over a man and fake marriage and shit tropes, partly because the Black and Charcoal Gray Morality of the comics meant that her amorality was pretty horrific and unlikable - to me), is hanging out with mopey young Han and she is entertaining as hell. And her amorality is presented in more humorous and entertaining ways. Hallucinogenic Hangover Cures! Enter Pursued By Angry Trandoshans!
(Okay, so this version of Sana reminds me a bit of Kaliyo, but... *shrugs*)
Anyway, the book...the plot...whatever...
There is a super creepy dude - who may be a droid, or may be a rotting semi-corpse disguised as a droid - who has some method of turning droids into killbots (against said droids’ wills). He wants something that was stolen by the person who owned the Falcon ten years ago. Which causes him to show up on Lando’s doorstep.
But it was Han who owned the Falcon ten years ago.
Super creepy dude (hereinafter SCD) gives Lando three days to find the MacGuffen or he turns all of Cloud City’s droids into killers.
Lando seeks out Han. (And apparently we’re going with the new canon that hyperdrives teleport because three days isn’t enough time to do much of anything if hyperspace travel takes time. *sigh*)
Han agrees to help Lando (and Kaasha, a twi’lek woman Lando has a past...and present...with) find the MacGuffen and save the day.
In between all this, there are flashbacks to Young Han and Young Lando.
Mopey young Han is really boring. Sana is hilariously terrible though, which makes up for it.
Young Lando is a fashion plate and walking gland. But has the sense at least to listen to his piloting droid, L3, who seems to be the brains of the operation.
While the past bits have some hilarious moments and lines, I like the present day versions of Han and Lando better than the young versions. (which does not bode well for the movie...)
Fortunately, it’s the present day Han and Lando who must put together a crack team and save the galaxy from being slaughtered by brainwashed homicidal droids!
So far, so good.
