now that Charlie boy has become king here are some things you may not know about him:
- he publicly humiliated and treated Diana the Princess of Wales like utter garbage countless times while they were married, in particular this situation in 1993
- tampongate (need I say more)
- his poor treatment of Princes William and Harry during their formative years (saw an opera while William was in surgery, A+ dad behaviour)
- in 2013 he accepted a £1m donation from the family of Osama Bin Laden for one of his charities
- continues to meddle in British politics which is a big fat no-no for royals (but he doesn’t care to listen or be reminded of history, i.e, see Charles I of England), he also really wanted helicopters and kept annoying the PM over it back in 2004-2005
- he was allegedly listed in the Paradise Papers back in 2017, but the royal family denies this
- he was allegedly the one who made racist comments about the potential skin colour of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son back in 2017 after his youngest son’s engagement, but he continues to deny this
- he and the Duchess of Cornwall openly LAUGHED at Inuit throat singers during a visit to Iqaluit, Canada in 2017 (it’s so abhorrent, as a Canadian this enrages me)
- in 2021 he allegedly offered “cash for honours” in relation to The Prince’s Foundation, by bribing a Saudi billionaire with knighthood and UK citizenship if he donated to his charity
- he actively supports homeopathy treatments instead of researched and effective treatments, and is often criticized as being “anti-science”
- he has a minimum net worth of $27 billion USD as of 2022 from ONE royal estate (that’s right, just from one of their many properties)

Geez Louise, going down a rabbit hole about the latest and not-greatest with David Starkey and just getting worst and worst.
Yeah, it's not great. Sadly, this is not an uncommon phenomenon - while it's a much less egregious case than Starkey, look at how former greats like Wilentz, Wood, and Bailyn have tied themselves up in knots over the 1619 Project.
I think a lot of this has to do with simple demographics - at the end of the day, these scholars are old white cis straight men of a particular class, and their scholarship doesn't make them any less prone to the prejudices and beliefs of their peer group. Moreover, I think that tendency is sharpened by the way in which these emeritus scholars feel like the discipline has moved beyond them, and in particular that the discipline cares more about race, gender, and sexuality instead of the political ideology or class that they spent their careers working on.
This isnt a phenomena that's unique to historians, moreover. Look at at James Watson and his obsession with race and IQ, or the phenomenon of Nobel disease and how many eminent scientists start promoting pseudoscience, eugenics, and other fucked-up or irrational beliefs.

ADOR, HYBE, and Ownership of Influence
As I've spent the past few weeks re-introducing myself to the scene, I've been keeping up with the story that won't stop giving over at ADOR/HYBE. Not since the bulk of 2023 with SME (losing CEOs, former CEO starting a business, flagship artists leaving) have I been this interested in the activities of a business in SoKo.
It's a lot, though.
There's so much to say... too much tbh, getting in at this point ... so here's the latest summary from a respected writer.
My question -- one that has 50-11 potential answers -- is about the source of this entanglement. Who actually owns the sound when it's established that ADOR is under the HYBE umbrella?
Let me be clear: Who is the source of "the sound" and style/charisma that's implied to have been stolen, because is it either label, honestly?
Are there similarities? Absolutely. Is it a bit sus? Contextually, we might not ever be able to definitively know.
The teams and influences behind these acts aren't exclusively a reflection of South Korean creatives. No, I am NOT saying that South Koreans are not creative, that's ridiculous and absolutely false. What I am saying is
• international writing teams exist
• researching trends and concepts from other international spaces exists, and
• increased accessibility to global artistry via streaming makes it super-difficult to not create similarities and overlap at some point
Don't plagiarize but also don't act like melodies, styling, concepts, themes, etc. have limitations.
It is damn hard in 2024 to create an original vibe that doesn't make someone feel like it's been heard or seen before. It's especially difficult when there's "a formula" for success that's followed in-house by a subsidiary, it wins, and the fans express confusion. Hell, even with the music I produce I have to do as much combing through other media as I can to attempt to minimize false accusations of plagiarism or copyright infringement.

Faking Hitler (2023)
🎬In the 80s the German paper `Stern' published Hitler's diary, giving insights into his deepest and private thoughts. However, they turned out to be fake and triggered one of the countries' biggest media scandals.
📝A funny at times (the forger story is quite funny), thought provoking (about the new generation learning about the dark past of their country), and the importance of good journalism. It's really well done and as someone who didn't know much about this story, I felt that I learnt quite a bit, enough to read more into it. Check it out.
In UK it is available on Channel 4 app under 'Walter Presents'.
I keep getting impressed by Daniel Donskoy, he is so versatile. His character was really interesting.
