Diada de Sant Jordi is one of the most important festivals in Catalonia! Today all towns and cities are filled with little stalls selling books and roses, and it is traditional to give to your loved ones one of each!
As the day of books and love, I want to celebrate it with you too!
Today is the Book Day in Catalonia, and we celebrate it in the most beautiful way, filling the streets with books and red roses, my favorite day of the year for sure!!
In Catalonia, to celebrate St. George's day (la diada de Sant Jordi), lovers exchange roses (that are said to sprout from the blood of the dragon slayed by him) and books (lots of places organise local book markets for the day). It's pretty much our St. Valentine's!
I thought that I could celebrate the day with a drawing of some girl kissers but don't know if I'll make it in time for the 23rd, so I present here the WIP:

23/04/2024 | I had an awesome day today. I woke up early and studied Russian for 4 hours and then I went to a friend’s house to play some card games. Today is Sant Jordi (my favorite day of the year) and where I live we gift people we love books and roses. I treated myself to two books (Notes on Nationalism and La place), my friend gave me El gremio de los magos, and both he and my brother brought me roses.
Today is Sant Jordi (Saint George's Day), one of the most beloved traditional holidays in Catalonia ❤️ the day of literature, love, and the Catalan language.
In these two images, you can find an explanation of this tradition. The first photo is an auca, a way of explaining stories with drawings and rhymes that is traditional from Catalonia and has been very popular between the 1600s and the 1930s and to a lesser extent still done nowadays.
I wish everyone a happy Sant Jordi with lots of books and love, and in a time when the right-wing furiously attacks our language and culture, a day of fight for Catalan language and literature.
❤️💛 Feliz San Jorge y Feliz Día de Aragón! 🐉🫶🏼y Feliç Sant Jordi!🌹📖
Today is Sant Jordi's Day, one of the most important holidays in Catalonia. This festival is based on the legend of Sant Jordi, the patron saint of Catalonia. It tells the story of a knight, a dragon and a princess. In other parts of Spain, it is known as Saint George's Day. And in Aragón - the autonomous community Mapi hails from - it is known as Dia de Aragón.
On this day, in Catalonia, people give books and roses to their loved ones. As best as I can tell, this is somewhat equivalent to Valentine's Day in the USA.

I'm Catalan, so I'm very proud that this typical Catalan fest of the rose and the book (lovers day indeed) has become international as the "World book day"
