Today I tried chicken of the woods for the first time.
We went to our favorite river beach and the spring flood actually came in handy for us. There were no people because 70% of the beach is under water now and to get to the little dry "island" we had to wade through (pretty cold) water up to our hips. A small price to pay to have the beach all to ourselves.
Anyway. A little further into the woods I spotted chicken of the woods growing on a stump. All thanks to the high humidity from the flood. And there was quite a bit more on the neardy trees.
It really does taste like chicken! And smells exactly like chicken when you cook it. So far, this is the closest to a meat non-meat food that I've tasted in my life.
Thanks for coming to my mushroom talk.

Meet Mangos wife, Sandy Yellow! Sandy for short.
Head canon… context- uh-.. thingy:
Sandy met Mango in college along with Copper Rust, (Corn-Dog-Guy. Friends call him Rusty,) and after a while they realized they had feelings for each other. Sandy confessed first since Mango didn’t want to take the risk of ruining their friendship. They were a happy couple for a while, with Rusty being a third-wheel, until Mango finally mustered up the courage to propose to Sandy. Of course, she said yes. And they got married. (Yay!)
Years later they wanted a baby, and that’s when Goldie came into the picture. In a sad twist of fate, Gold came into the world the same day Sandy left it. Mango knew Sandy would want him to move on and care for their son, so that’s what he did. Mango tried to be the best dad ever and protect Gold, just like Sandy would’ve wanted. (Another reason he didn’t take Gold’s death well at all.)
Here’s some other stuff-
Mango was also very protective of Sandy and always very careful/watchful around other males when with her. (Except Rusty hehe.)

Just Sandy being sandy.
She's happy outside, but recently she's been even more fearful and anxious than usual. She was always afraid of the sounds of explosions (even very distant ones), thunder or fireworks. But the intensity of the recent airstrikes increased her fear tenfold. She now begins to hyperventilate and hide even from the strong wind howling outside the window.
She is a very impressionable dog, one random occurrence can cause her a phobia that will last for years. When we first got her (from the street), she was afraid to go through any kind of doors for over a year. She and her siblings lived near a grocery store where she probably was hit by a door, and she remembered it.
She is also afraid of rats, lol. So at least I don't have to worry about her attacking them, she can't stand even when they simply look at her, she gets spooked and leaves.
