Miraculous ladybug finale got me crazy

Part of me will always mourn that we didn't get to see Chat Noir fighting Monarch, his father, in the finale battle. That's always gonna be nagging in the back of my mind.
At the same time, it was a little predictable, and what the writers chose to do instead makes a lot of sense when you think about it, and is maybe more satisfying for Adrien's arc regarding his relationship to his father than if he'd had to fight Monarch knowing it's Gabriel. (Not talking about the whole "he still doesn't know his father was Monarch" bit, I'm strictly talking about the fights here - that one's another topic entirely)
I say "predictable", because of what happened in "Representation". Adrien got here his moment to fight his father, as a seemingly akuma victim, and this on his own without Ladybug.
With this set-up we have here: Adrien confronting and fighting his father as in Gabriel Agreste, and Marinette confronting and fighting her nemesis as in Monarch. That's always what we envisioned as the finale fight against Monarch would be: Adrien vs his abusive father and Ladybug vs her enemy. It just didn't happen in the same fight, so both could separately have their moment and their thing to say.
I think in the end it's significantly more important that Adrien got to fight Gabriel Agreste as Psycauchemardeur focusing solely on him as his father, than have him fight Gabriel Agreste knowing it's Monarch. Because everything that happened in Representation, everything Adrien told his father as Chat Noir and everything Adrien was angry about regarding his father's behaviour with him, that all comes down to how Gabriel has acted as a father to him independently of him being a city terrorist.
If Adrien had had the realisation that his father's actions were terrible through the discovery that he was, on top of an abuser, a supervillain, then the whole "terrorising innocents" would have overshadowed in Adrien's anger all that Gabriel did to him personally as an abuser & shitty parental figure.
What I mean is that Adrien realising his father is shitty independently of knowing he's a terrorist and confronting him about it in a fight is part of his arc and is more impactful than Adrien confronting his father for his supervillain acts. He didn't realise Gabriel was a terrible person because he was a supervillain, but because he understood he was an abusive father and that's amazing
And that's why he got his moment in Representation while Marinette had hers in the finale - Gabriel is a shitty person both as a father and by being a magical terrorist. Adrien confronted him about the "shitty father" bit, and Marinette about the "magical terrorist bit", and both these things make sense with their respective character arcs & respective relationships to Gabriel

We're in unfortunate implication nation, baby
The Season 5 finale, with the help of episodes like Chat Blanc and Ephemeral, establishes that Adrien's emotions are to be seen as inconveniences or even seen as potentially dangerous in such a way that they need to be controlled by another person. This validates Gabriel's abuse of Adrien by suggesting that he was right all along to control Adrien, lest he goes out of control by being emotional and destroys the world or something along those lines.
By all logic, the Paris special doesn't portray a true morality swap situation, just a story about the same people with the same capacity for good who have gone down the wrong path, but can be brought back to the light. Everyone who is good in our world is good in theirs, and vice versa, as evidenced by the fact that the terrorist children are going to be redeemed but Chloe is still somehow still evil. Gabriel is among those who are considered good.
The above point is further driven in by the fact that Gabriel is akumatized (I forgot the word used in the special and I'm too lazy to look it up) into Guardian Angel in the special, a phrase commonly associated with caring and protective caretakers of any kind even though his son has become a magical terrorist despite his wonderful parenting, somehow.
Gabriel is akumatized into Guardian Angel by Marinette, and considering the revelations from the Season 5 finale, this works as foreshadowing for her siding with Gabriel and essentially continuing his work of controlling his son. Gabriel is named Guardian Angel by her, and in the narrative, this implies that she validates him as a parent, metaphorically now and literally later.
Considering the lack of morality swapping, her actions in the finale and the fact that Marinette is the writers' mouthpiece, this is the writers' way of informing us of the wonderful parenting abilities of Gabriel Agreste, reinforcing the idea that Mr. Monarch is not evil, just misunderstood.
In fact, the Paris Special has Claw Noir be a murderous villain who is willing to Cataclysm his opponents in a universe where Gabriel is a good father, leading to the conclusion that Gabriel's lack of abuse and control of his son has led him down this dark path. The implication being that he needs to be abused or else he'll become a villain.
And this is supported by the fact that Gabriel akumatizes Chat Noir into an angelic version of himself, complete with the angel wings and white costume and all, showing us that Adrien on his own is prone to becoming a volatile monster and needs Gabriel to keep him line and turn him into the angel he is today.
I hate it here.

The best part of the S5 Finale
Tumblr media
THEM! Look at them! Look at her being SMOL with her little clenched fists, ready to take on the world! Look at him being absolute Best Boy(tm) She's gonna steal all his sweatshirts and wear them for dresses. Then she's gonna pile them on her bed and sleep in them. He's gonna see her stressing out over schoolwork and sit down beside her, playing a soft tune. As her head gets heavy and she starts to nod, he'll just gently tip her into his lap to curl up. Kitty Section needs a manager? Kitty section found it's manager. There's no paperwork that can defeat her.
LukaBrina ♥ That is all. :)

i’m hoping that marinette isn’t gonna lie to adrien forever and that she’s going to let felix tell him the truth. mari can’t really tell him without him figuring out her identity, so i truly think felix is the best and most logical option. we’ve been shown a few times now he actually does care about adrien’s happiness and freedom while also hating gabriel agreste so so much. i’d like to believe that he’s not gonna leave adrien in the dark about it. adrien deserves to know the truth and gabriel’s request of like “oh nooo pwease don’t tell my son how awful i was” is just not something he deserves WHATSOEVER and i really really want someone to tell adrien everything and i HOPE it’ll be felix

Realmente Miraculous no debió volver tan conocida. Atrajeron a un montón de fans tóxicas e inmaduras.

Ml S5 thoughts
I finally caught up to all the episodes and finished s5. It was a fun experience and I am very excited for s6. I liked the season but well am not the greatest fan of the ending.
Tumblr media
I really think Gabriel got off a bit too lightly and that Adrien should know who his father was. These are the only complaints I have. I am also sort of confused about where we pick up from. How much do they remember? What logic was emilie’s return explained away with? we will probably see all this next season but yes I am a little confused about the ending. I hope we get more details about exactly how the world changed. I might be overthinking a little but I found the ending vague. Also Lila officially becoming the next holder is really exciting! I feel horrible for nooroo of course but I genuiniely can’t wait to see what Lila as the villain brings to the table. I also loved seeing tikki and plagg’s true forms! They looked so majestic! It was also really cool seeing Gimmi, I would honestly liked to have seen more of them but frankly didn’t mind. I am so glad I stuck around and decided to finally catch up to s5. Truly was the best finale in my opinion! I absolutely loved seeing all the other heroes coming to help and am so glad they weren’t forgotten. The whole chloe as a mayor was a little nonsensical but I loved it regardless. I am really excited for what comes next and until we get there I will busy myself rewatching s5 in order and reading fanfics.

Miraculous Ladybug Season 5 Finale Thoughts
First, Thank you to the writers for not making it a ‘Reset everything and erase all memories of miraculous’ clechie.
Second, was the statue of Gabriel Agreste nessacary?
Third, Adrien STILL doesn't know anything about what his dad wanted or was planning on doing
Fourth, I'm pleased that the holders are now responsible for their miraculous and their Kwamis, but does Adrien know all of them now, or does he still only know the ones he knew before?
Fifth, i would have liked to have seen everyone (French heroes, United Heros, and Fei) come to Agreste home and help Bug Noire fight Monarch/Gabriel
Finally, God Plagg and Goddess Tikki looked so awesome!

will having a little shop of horrors poster in his room is technically just a little bit of fun, but i was just thinking and realised something - for anyone who doesn’t know the plot of little shop of horrors, to summarise :
seymour krelborn buys a strange plant. this plant turns out to only eat blood. the plant gets so big that the florist becomes famous for it.
seymour is, on top of this, in love with a girl named audrey. he doesn’t believe audrey will ever love him back because he is kind of a klutz and she is so beautiful and cool. audrey doesn’t believe seymour will ever love her back because all of her life, she’s been lead to believe she is worthless.
but the stage version and the movie version have different endings.
the musical stage version (and the version will owns a poster of) :
in this ver. seymour’s ends up having to feed audrey to the plant because she has been half eaten anyway (while seymour wasn’t at the shop, the plant starts eating her) - so he sacrifices her, but only by her command. he then gets eaten by the plant and it takes over the whole world, and everyone in america dies at the hands of the plant.
Tumblr media
the movie version :
in the movie, the plant starts eating audrey, and seymour saves her, but she isn’t hurt as badly, so seymour zaps the plant back to space, and they live ‘happily ever after’, ‘somewhere that’s green’ (a dream house that audrey has been fantasising about living in all her life), away from the horrors of the world.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and i have every reason to believe the duffers added this as a little bit of foreshadowing for their ending. i mean, the musical version is far more morbid than they will make the s5 finale. multiple cast members have pointedly said that characters get perfectly ended arcs and i think it goes without saying the quite literally can’t mean that they all die. and the movie wasn’t actually out until 19th december 1986, so the same year as s4, but still.
i don’t think it was about the little shop of horrors characters, or their arcs, or anything like that - i strongly believe the duffers were thinking of the ending when they made the executive decision to put a full on poster in will’s room - even the fact that there are two endings, (of lsoh) it’s like a huge part of the plot and it affects whether the characters we are rooting for live or die.
we have all seen our fair share of ‘will/mike sacrifices himself for mike/will’ or ‘will/mike saves mike/will from imminent death’ theories and headcanons and i feel like this is reason to believe it might play out a bit like that.
i mean. maybe i don’t really know where i’m going with this one but it definitely means something - please feel free to reblog or comment with your ideas!!

My scalding hot take about the finale is that there is no way to ever make Bug Noire a valid writing choice because it goes against Marinette's arc of learning to stop taking all the burdens onto herself and learning to rely on others and their support, and also against Adrien's arc of learning to assert himself and his worth and independence after a lifetime of having others make decisions for him and dictating his actions. There, I said it.

I've read so many posts about leaks and still I don't feel like I'm ready for the finale... I've seen some people say "well, ignoring everything related to Adrien I thought the finale is okay/I liked it", but I can't ignore all that, it just makes me sad and angry how he is treated
From what I have seen the finalé falls down on so many levels. It rewrites the wish entirely from Ephemeral, it absolutely shits Adrien out of his own story, it forces Marinette to make terrible decisions to get things done, she loses for the third straight finale in a row, people don't help, people don't communicate.
It's a pile of drama, set pieces, and twists, with no payoff, especially for long time fans. This isn't even salt. You can break down the narrative and how so many setups just... Fizzle.
It's ashame, and I take no joy from it. I expect people to be hurt by it, and I don't understand why.

Watching the miraculous s5 finale was like…woah. My childhood is over now and life has only ever gotten worse. Bug Noir slayed though. I feel like next season Chat Noir is gonna find out how much Ladybug has still been hiding from him. It’s like they’re back in season four. They should have a big fight (not physically) and he’s gonna be like “We agreed the secrets would stop! We’re partners! That’s what you said!” I love angsty betrayals…but yeah. Lila is gonna be a great hawk moth and also Paris special hype!!!
