Hey lovelies. I know it's been a crazy week or so... tax time, all the random sightings of Chaos Dad, WBD being a POS. I know a lot of you are hurting pretty bad right now, and not sure where to vent your frustrations.

Just remember that it's okay to step away, and it's okay to not engage with things you don't feel like you can stomach. It doesn't mean you're not allowed in that space, and it doesn't make you a bad person. You are allowed to shine as bright as you are, but you can also choose which places get to bask in that light. You are allowed to take up space. You are allowed to shine. You are allowed to find the places that your sunshine helps others to grow and vice versa.

We aren't all going to get along all the time, as much as I'd love the world to be in that kind of space to allow for it. We've all been hurt, and we've all been through things in this life that have made us no longer trust people and places. I hope that one day, along with this awesome crew we can make a better space for everyone, and even if not all of us can get along all the time, that all of us find our ways to people who we feel safe with.

Remember that you are so kind, and you are so worthy. Some days it doesn't feel like it. Some days others try to take that from you. But that's what you are. You are worthy of love, and safety, and you are so very beautiful. Remember the kindness in your heart, and try not to let folks snuff it out. I know it's there, and I believe in you.

I really hope you all get some rest tonight lovelies, or soon, you deserve a break. The world can be very hard, but you are the soft, bright ball of love it needs, don't forget that.

It's gonna be okay.

my friend and i were talking about how strange it is to see young actors hit puberty in between filming and release so i passionately explained to her about how i am 99% sure that during a scene in good omens s1 where adam and brian were discussing the intricacies of atlantis people surviving with diving helmets on had adam's actor voice dubbed in "that's right" because of how 1) the camera is still on brian and we do not pan over to adam speaking the actual line and 2) adam's actor's voice sounds fairly deeper on that line compared to his voice in the rest of the season and my friend just responds with:

"i think you should put that on the adhd application"

Okay! Obviously, I love Wolf 359. The available scripts for Wolf 359 are recording scripts, meaning they're inaccurate in a ton of places when it comes to finalized or improvised dialogue, and don't function well as transcripts (especially since the scripts for the live show and some of the mini episodes were never made available.) That said, I think everyone should read the scripts; the sheer amount of physical description that you can feel in the show, even if you can't see it... I guarantee it will enhance your listening experience. Most visual show to ever be an audio drama. So, in pursuit of both of these goals at once, I went over every word in the scripts, and wrote up new scripts for the unavailable ones. Some of the sound effects described - especially in early episodes - might not line up exactly, because I didn't want to mess with the non-dialogue portion of the show, but I hope this strikes a good balance and can be a useful resource.

#wolf 359 #w359 #i went back to standardize some s1 formatting last minute so um if i accidentally deleted anything in the process. let me know?#or if there's anything else that stands out but. it should all be there more or less. the dialogue should be accurate now.#do whatever you want with these. compare them to the unedited recording scripts.#use them for screenshots of things you couldn't accurately screenshot before.#use them as actual functional transcripts for dialogue you can't parse. though i had to make some choices with cross talk #especially in the sound and the fury where most of it isn't really meant to be heard and it doesn't easily. format together.#anyway. um. that's it! i hope someone finds this useful and i hope it gets some more people to check out the scripts. maybe.

imo every water metaphor people throw at faulkner gets better when you remember he can't swim. “stories are currents, and he plunges headlong into those rushing waters, time and time again" yeah and he can't swim. he's drowning in the narrative he's making for himself. "speak now of the man you will leave behind, the man you have been... drown him in the river’s depths" yeah he's been trying to. he kinda always is, a little bit, just by virtue of being there.

it just speaks to such a fundamental incompatibility in my eyes. he's still scared - he ran out of the hotel when he sainted the hotelier in season one and he runs away from the angel he summons in s3e6. it seems like he can only partake in violence through abstraction - it's just water and symbols until someone's dead or changed in front of him, and then it's real. the withermark is a holy triumph until he counts the houses and the people inside, and then it's something no one should ever have. sacrifice is foundational to all faith in this universe. this isn't something he can avoid, even if the upcoming schism lets him steer his part of the faith where he wants.

(and, to tangent, someone telling him that they finally killed her in some distant town isn't real because he didn't see her face when she hit the soil. if that happens then she's just someone who's not there anymore and he can keep on missing her like he's been doing. i am convinced this is why he gave the shoot on sight order.)

it’s mentioned that he's left alone in his room at the gulch for hours at a time, just like when his father would neglect him and his brothers and leave them to their own devices. he wants a real and genuine love like family, but instead gets worship and idolatry from one hand and schemes to kill him from the other. he keeps climbing the ranks, distancing himself from the potential of gaining the closeness he craves, all in the hope of getting closer to the god he's losing faith in. he's crawling towards the river and he can't swim.

he is trying to love something that wants to drag him under. even if there wasn't a god in the river, the water would greedily swallow him anyway. river currents do not care about your love. he is putting the sunk in sunk cost fallacy. he’s participating in reverse self-immolation. he is drowning in deep water and has only just learned how to keep his eyes open without goggles. he needs to reach the surface but he still can't fucking swim. he is going to die thrashing in the river he loves so much, trying to get out once he realized it wasn't ever going to love him back the way he wanted.

and if he can’t learn how to swim in time, he’s going to need the help of someone who can to pull him out.

#while i acknowledge that an approximate year has passed between s1 and s3 and he could have learned in that time. i don't think he did #one cause the beach script mentions him wearing an oversized lifejacket. and two because him not being able to swim is fun X]#for the reasons listed above. and others. stares directly into the camera #anyway thematically i think carpenter should teach him how to floa[is hit with a steel bat]#tsv #the silt verses #brother faulkner #meant to post this last week but i cringed myself out of it. So, it's Atsushi who calls himself a “fool” the first time? And since we know for sure (chapter 35) that Akutagawa was listening in to what was happening... It's compelling to think Akutagawa might actually have been quoting Atsushi himself this whole time, every time he called him “fool”.

I actually think it would be really fitting for Akutagawa. Because Akutagawa stretches a lot on how pathetic it is of Atsushi to always be dwelling on his past sufferings (“Let me tell you why I said you disgust me. [...] You're an imbecile who keeps dwelling on old wounds!”, chapter 35), and loathes him for being so self-deprecating. Then, for Akutagawa to call him fool, but that being a word Atsushi for the first time used to define himself, it would be like Akutagawa was telling him: “you're a fool because you himself call yourself that. You're a fool because that's what you decide to be.”

it's ABOUT. ewan getting the ranch and logan getting the business and forever looking down on his brother because when uncle noah made them kill squirrels ewan buried them with headstones. logan threw their bodies in the trash but ewan learned how to skin a squirrel and tan the hide and when logan brings it up at thanksgiving dinner everyone else thinks it's equal parts funny and disgusting. ewan doing the work of animal husbandry and his grandson greg studying zoology in theory and thinking that makes him knowledgable enough to survive the rest of the roys. connor buys a ranch in new mexico to play at being a frontiersman roughing it in the desert but he can't even bear to put his dog down, so he gets conned out of three thousand dollars by a guy who just shoots it in the parking lot. logan takes his employees on a corporate retreat so they can play-act being hunters but even with the boars lined up to run in front of them they're shit at it and the people they're paying laugh at them. he underpays the contractor and gets rotting raccoons stuffed in his chimney.

the obsession with these ideas about the order of nature and the violence of animals but the disgust and disdain for people that are actually involved with the work while they're unable to do it themselves. you rely on people you think nothing of doing work you think is demeaning, but you need them, and they hate you and turn it against you but as an act of resistance it's ultimately futile because they still need your money. the inability to accept killing and gutting and skinning an animal as a part of normal, mundane reality is symptomatic of their disconnect from 'reality' entirely, people fixated on money as value in and of itself. and that psychological disconnect is deeply damaging to them but at the end of the day they're still the people with the money and power making the disgusting, demeaning reality they never have to contend with. animal death motif ^_^
