Bought a ticket for a runaway train
Like a madman laughing at the rain
A little out of touch a little insane
It's just easier than dealing with the pain
Another piece I've had in my mind for about three years now, as long as Daniel has been my favorite. Just that loneliness and isolation he feels of being the one who KNOWS, the one told the story and the one who carries this burden. The one who might die to know it. Lonesome train rides across empty prairie.

Lyrics:
Call you up in the middle of the night
Like a firefly without a light
You were there like a slow torch burning
I was a key that could use a little turning
So tired that I couldn't even sleep
So many secrets I couldn't keep
Promised myself I wouldn't weep
One more promise I couldn't keep
It seems no one can help me now
I'm in too deep
There's no way out
This time I have really led myself astray
Runaway train never going back
Wrong way on a one way track
Seems like I should be getting somewhere
Somehow I'm neither here nor there
Can you help me remember how to smile?
Make it somehow all seem worthwhile
How on earth did I get so jaded?
Life's mystery seems so faded
I can go where no one else can go
I know what no one else knows
Here I am just drownin' in the rain
With a ticket for a runaway train
Everything seems cut and dry
Day and night, earth and sky
Somehow I just don't believe it
Runaway train never going back
Wrong way on a one way track
Seems like I should be getting somewhere
Somehow I'm neither here nor there
Bought a ticket for a runaway train
Like a madman laughin' at the rain
A little out of touch, little insane
It's just easier than dealing with the pain
Runaway train never goin' back
Wrong way on a one way track
Seems like I should be getting somewhere
Somehow I'm neither here nor there
Songwriter: David Pirner
Runaway train never comin' back
Runaway train tearin' up the track
Runaway train burnin' in my veins
Runaway but it always seems the same

Runaway Train (1985). Two escaped convicts and a female railway worker find themselves trapped on a speeding train with no brakes and nobody driving.
I've got an enormous soft spot for genre mash-up films, and this one - part prison escape, part man vs nature thriller, part, well, runaway train thriller - is one for the ages. Harrowing, funny, but also surprisingly rich as a character study, this one is just way better than it feels it should be. 8/10.

🐾 This afternoon, as the preschool kids were asleep, I did some sketching to pass the time, quietly. The previous night, I watched a clip of narration for the train chase in the story “The Wind in the Willows”. After escaping from prison, a disguised Mr. Toad stows away on a Great Western engine to escape the law and eventually redeem himself. Earlier in the story, he faces trial for allegedly trying to sell a stolen motor car. Plus, the “New Adventures of Winning the Pooh” episode “The Good, The Bad, and the Tigger” came to mind too. In my head, I saw an image of Tigger at the footplate of a steam engine. Along with Tigger, I also sketched Alice, loosely based on their incarnations in the Disney Mirrorverse franchise. 🐯🚂
