#it's movie night on this fine FDF #your girl stopped by Blockbuster and picked this flick up so we could all gather round the family room #in front of the Toshiba tv and chill out in our bean bag chairs #I've got the Totino's Pizza Rolls and Bagel Bites fresh out the microwave and the rents are out for the night #WE GON PARTAYYYY #I burned the crap outta this VHS tape as a kid. Loved this movie.#at first I was just going to only include Fred in this manip but the longer I stared into that ape's eyes from the movie poster #the more Wes' monkey-alien-void eyes called out to me and let's be real here... i watched Barbie because they made an ASL-interpreted version (with a Deaf interpreter, as they should) and i was like oh okay, even if i don't think i'll LOVE the movie, this should be a fun way to get some ASL receptive practice. unfortunately it was only fun for like 20 min. did not enjoy the movie

#the story didn't make any sense #the best jokes had already been done (like i know i've seen the 'entice men by pretending not to know anything' thing before by like SNL #or collegehumor or just a random youtuber. like just literally the same scene)#and the feminism was. deeply uninspired. imo #it was actively sexist - did we see ANY boys playing with dolls?#isn't that kind of. antifeminist #also at the beginning where they were like 'girls have been playing w/ dolls since time immemorial' okay so just. EXPLICITLY sexist then #girls and dolls. inextricably linked. uh huh #gender rolls baby #that's how i knew i wouldn't like the movie. because that was in the trailer #also i just. got bored? like last 10 minutes i was like please end please end please end #and the smallpox comment...........#the fuck #also extreme extreme amounts of emphasis on beauty #why were some of the most attempted-heartfelt moments like.
