the european space agency (ESA) is launching its newest probe tomorrow!
the JUpiter ICy moons Explorer (JUICE) mission is a space probe designed to make detailed observations of jupiter, as well as its three largest, icy moons: europa, ganymede, and callisto (the other galilean moon, io, isn’t included as it isn’t an ice world, and has zero potential for life).
JUICE will be searching for signs of habitability on these moons, as well as gaining more information on the largest planet in our solar system.
Tumblr media
be sure to tune into ESAs youtube channel to watch the launch live at 1pm BST!

Sonic's going to space!
Tumblr media
The JUICE (Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer) probe will embark on its eight-year journey to Jupiter and its icy moons, and our favorite blue hedgehog will be on board!
During the development of the probe back in 2019, Swedish scientist Dr. Jan-Erik Wahlund asked SEGA whether they may use Sonic as the mascot of the Radio & Plasma Wave Detector (RPWI) instrument, to which SEGA agreed. According to Dr. Wahlund, they chose Sonic due to their fondness for the character and the fact that he starred in many space adventures.
Tumblr media
The probe, which will make several fly-bys around a part of our Solar System, will arrive in the Jupiter system in 2031. From there, it will orbit around and study several of Jupiter’s icy moons, particularly Ganymede, and Callisto, and Europa, before settling on orbiting Ganymede’s orbit, becoming the first spacecraft to orbit a natural satellite other than our own Moon.
The spacecraft is scheduled to launch this Friday at 8:14 am ET from Europe's Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana. The Ariane 5 rocket will bring the probe to space in its final-ever mission.

As you can see I've colour coded the sets by game. NL is pink, NH is blue, and sets that didn't really change between games are purple.
For the redesign matches, it was an even split between NH and NL. out of 10 redesign matches, they each won 5.
It's easier for me if all the new polls post in a row with no gaps between, so round 2 will start in a few days to give the hourly tournament a chance to catch up! This should be the only round where I have to do that.

I fucking missed his birthday but here’s a belated list of Bruce Wayne headcanons no one asked for 🫡
Tumblr media
He’s a walking thesaurus
Begrudgingly takes the time to do general maintenance on the kids vehicles but they know it’s how he shows fatherly love
Genuinely disgruntled/confused by social media culture & language
— “Duke, what does -squints at iPhone screen- thotiana mean?”
“……im not qualified for this”
History buff. Loves the history channel & discovery channel. gets hurt on patrol & just vegges for 8+ hrs. when the painkillers kick in he starts scrutinizing & correcting the narrators. Loudly criticizes naked & afraid. Whole fam finds him unbearable (jay is the same way tho)
Enjoys rlly spicy food. Like shit that should be inedible. Prob from years of inhaling toxic gases & fumes. as embarrassing as it may be he doesn’t have much of a palette anymore. Only way to find out if something’s poisonous is the consistency/density & how it sits on his tongue.
— “clark, dare me to eat this pepper?”
“we’re literally on a different planet that thing could kill you bruce”
“I’ll take my chances”
—turns purple or something—
Total geek on vacations or nature walks, points out every creature it’s Greek name, genus, the whole shebang. Loves fossils and seashells can tell you time period of rocks & what type they are. Same with trees.
100% would blow shit up in the bat cave for “scientific research purposes”
— “it’s for the greater good Alfred”
“even the bottle rockets sir?”
“Especially the bottle rockets”
Really fucking hates the cold. Broken bones & scars ache like a bitch in rainy/snowy cold weather.
Hates taking medicine/cough syrup like a giant baby. Alfred has resorted to hiding pills & sedatives in all kinds of creative ways. Stephanie is surprisingly good at baking them into her “special” cupcakes.
wears those horrible Hawaiian shirts and slacks every time the fam goes on vacation. Looks like a walking pattern violation.
as opposite of a morning person as you could get. drinks his coffee black & cant function until he’s finished at least a cup. The longer he sleeps the longer it takes him to recover when he gets up. Pours orange juice into his cereal & that kind of shit. Most of the kids know better & leave him alone to his morning paper but Steph knows it’s the best time to get what she wants so she’ll hassle him relentlessly at the breakfast table. Morning stubble always makes a cameo
Fucking terrible at most video games. The WORST at 1st person shooters. Does enjoy racing & building games (& Skyrim for some reason)
Really good at crossword puzzles & fills them out in the newspaper when he gets the chance.
Truly is the turtleneck king (you lose a lot of heat in the neck)
Has horrible handwriting for someone who grew up with a top tier education. Drives his secretary nuts.
Has like 5 cellphones, very plug of him. nobody understands how he manages to keep track of everything. the one he uses as bruce to contact the kids is an 02 NOKIA that’s probably been to the moon and back (literally)
Very affectionate towards Alfred the cat it’s definitely that ‘dad who vehemently denies the pet/doesn’t want it & then becomes inseparable with it’ type of relationship. He may or may not sneak him friskies much to Damian’s chagrin.
—*tsk* “he’ll become obese father its irresponsible of you”
“ill feed this cat until he has to roll through my house thanks”
Has one of those fancy watches with like 1000 functions thanks to tim. It’s bulky and black looks like some sort of military electronic.
His kids call him inspector gadget.
Wears blankets around his shoulders like the cape/cowl when he’s sick.
Most certainly keeps track of and studies the colony in the cave. The kids have a theory that he has trackers and mics attached to the bats for snooping purposes. (He doesn’t but he’s not telling them that)
Has a collection of crazy socks, ties, and cuff links (mostly from tim & steph) that he wears to work when he’s feeling worn out. They are all hideous and Alfred tells him so but just a glance at some putrid yellow cotton & he already feels better.
Enjoys going to classic car shows with the kids and Alfred. everyone has an opinion if he’s made a new purchase, he pouts if the consensus is bad
Singe-handedly funded the 24/7 food truck services/entrepreneur program for the entirety of Gotham after getting his ass kicked by killer croc one night & by the grace of god & the pity of a concerned man running a taco truck was given the best meal he’s ever tasted in his life. Jay was very on board when he heard about it & actually the entire team is pretty grateful to be able to grab something delicious on the go all hours of the night
Likes to swim and going to the beach in general. One of his favorite things to do with Clark is deep sea fishing — dad shorts baseball cap and socks with sandals kind of fishing.
Contrary to his stony persona, the mans a crier. Cries when he’s sad, cries when he’s happy, cries when he yawns, cries when he laughs, cries when he’s sick, etc. etc. Sometimes tears come out when he’s upside down, he’s just got very active tear ducts 😪
Definitely has a photo of every kid in his wallet, most of them are blurry and cropped weird cause he cut them out himself but all of them are of the kids smiling or laughing. He looks at them all the time to the point that they’re worn down and faded different colors.
Has severe manic & depressive episodes. PTSD as well.
He’s ambidextrous but primarily left handed

State of the Planet: 2023 Edition
Here we are once again. Hours to go until the new year is upon us. Even though when you read this you may very well be in the future, it's time once again to use the few hours we have left in 2023 to take a look at the state of the planet. And...what a state it is. I said last year that 2022 may have very well been the inflection point for this decade, the moment that the 2020's truly began to come into their own. I think that's held true for this year, even though it still feels like folks are trying to find their feet in some aspects. But even in all this confusion and uncertainty, there is still progress to be had. So let's take a look back at some of the good things that happened this year:
The European Parliment commited to ending the sale of petrol and diesel fueled vehicles in the EU by 2035 in an effort to push the adoption of electric vehicles.
The High Seas Treaty was signed by the member states of the UN, this treaty commits to the conservation of 30% of the world's oceans by 2030.
The ozone hole continues to shrink, projections have it on track to recover to 1980's levels by 2050.
Finland became the 31st member of NATO.
The World Health Organization declared that COVID-19 and Monkeypox are no longer a global health emergencies.
The first synthetic human embryo was created from the use of stem cells.
The African Union became the 21st permanent member of the G20 (wouldn't it be G21 now?).
Katalin Karikó & Drew Weissman won the Nobel Prize in medicine for their contributions towards the development of mRNA vaccines against COVID-19.
The FDA approved of a treatment for sickle cell disease involving the use of the gene-editing technique Crispr.
Scientists announced the ability to use AI to decode people's thoughts from brain scans.
King Charles III ascended to the throne in the UK.
Pope Francis decreed that Roman Catholic priests would be allowed to bless same-sex marraiges.
Mexico decriminalized abortion at the federal level.
Despite projections of a recession, the United States economy experienced it's biggest growth since before the pandemic, adding 2.5 million jobs and inflation decreasing to 3.1%.
Spain won the Women's World Cup for the first time in a 1-0 victory over England.
SpaceX's fully stacked Starship flew twice this year, the largest rocket to ever fly (now if only they can get it to stop exploding).
The Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer (JUICE) was launched by the European Space Agency, it's expected to arrive at Jupiter in 2031.
The European Ariane 5 rocket flew its 117th and final mission.
India's Chandrayaan-3 landed at the Moon's south pole, the first spacecraft to do so.
Oppenheimer and Barbie released the same day in theaters and the internet had a lot of fun with that.
Michigan went 13-0 agian and won their third straight Big Ten championship (BEAT BAMA!)
The Pistons actually won a game before the end of the year.
Remember all that? It's okay if you didn't. But once again, this is where I'm at right now.
You are in the future. Every single word on this post is already confined to the history books. How you remember this year is ultimately up to you, but keep in mind that the reason I make these posts is a counterpoint to the many forces out there who have a lot to gain if everyone is under the impression that everything is always terrible all the time.
And that leads me to my word of the year. It's a bit unusual but I think it fits:
The word of the year is: Perception.
At our core, all of us are truth seekers. Whether it's objective truth or personal truth, we all want to find it. One of the benefits of the internet age that, in my opinion, gets taken for granted is that we now have more information available to us than at any time in human history. Our ancestors had to deal with incomplete and contradictory information, but now we can find out pretty much anything in a matter of seconds.
But with that information comes a host of issues. We unfortunately live in an age where a commitment to objective truth is being overshadowed by a desire for personal truth. We're putting less emphasis on what is true and more on what we want to be true. Unfortunately, as Carl Sagan once said, our preferences do not determine what is true.
And there are those who seek to exploit this. There are people in this world that are willing to alter your own perception on how things are. But not to benefit you, but to benefit them. They wish to take advantage of your desire for your own beliefs to be validated for time evermore and turn that against you, so that they can create a better world for themselves even at your own expense.
But you can stop them. All you have to do is be aware that perception doesn't always equal reality.
2024 will be a consequential year. For one thing, it's an election year in the United States which means the stakes are high enough as is. There will be a lot of consequential events over the next 366 days (yay for leap years!), and a lot of people that you've never met will be trying to tell you how to think and what to believe.
Remember that at the end of the day, the most important values are the ones you hold dear. Just because something gets a lot of engagement on your socials doesn't mean it's the best way to contextualize something. Don't allow your beliefs and values to be compromised for the sake of fitting in with trends or trying to cash in on some vague notion of importance; especially when there's people trying to exploit that at your expense.
The first step to healthy civic engagement is a body politic that is informed and questioning. It will do you no harm to read up on whatever topic is trending on the socials. It will only make you informed and then you will be able to decide if a position or a policy is truly the right one for you, based on what you hold to be important.
Knowledge can be scary at times. It may cause us to reevaluate our position, as well as come to realize that something we felt or believed or even wished to be true now has to be totally re-examined in a new light. But all that is what helps us grow, that's what helps us evolve and become stronger.
They used to tell us that "knowledge is power." I can tell you that knowledge only makes you better.
Remember these words as you head into the new year. Rather than wishing for your perception to be reality, base your perception on reality. And then those who thrive on the exploitation of ignorance will have no power over you.
Have a great New Year's Eve, friends. And I'll see you all in 2024.
Helios.

Happy Birthday Flea!!! Fun fact/refresher, depending on how insane you are about one of these men, that Flea, Damon Albarn and Tony Allen formed a jam band (Flea laughs at calling it a supergroup) for one album, both entitled Rocket Juice & The Moon.
Rocket Juice’s launch pad was the Albarn-helmed Africa Express touring collaboration; a 2008 Lagos date provided the initial connection between Flea and Allen, and sparked jam sessions with Albarn. These evolved into a full album, with guests including US soulstress Erykah Badu, Malian songbird Fatoumata Diawara, keyboardist Cheick Tidiane Seck, Ghanaian rapper Manifest and Chicago siblings Hypnotic Brass Ensemble.
Flea: ‘Supergroup sounds pretty silly,’ giggles irreverent superstar and intrepid talent Flea. ‘Damon and Tony are two musicians I admired plenty before I worked with them. Damon’s an amazing musician, and his storytelling ability on a song like Poison seems to be in his blood. And Tony, man, he’s just a treasure. He’ll lay down this funky wicked groove and I just want to get into the middle of it. It’s like being freezing, then immersing yourself into a hot bath. (...) ‘The Rocket Juice album was made with no preconceived plan,’ adds Flea. ‘The playing never felt like a means to an end. We totally improvised over a few meetings, left it wild so it feels cosmic and loose. I love to just jam; my life mission is to play music in the moment.’ (...) ‘Damon’s very English, I’m from Hollywood, Tony’s from Nigeria… and our hearts are all in the same place,’ says Flea.
Damon: ‘You blend all of these things into your life; that’s the secret – otherwise you go stark raving mad,’ says Albarn. Despite his laddish Blur persona, he mostly seems happy being a driving force rather than commanding the spotlight: ‘I am part of a lot of things that are converging at the moment. On Rocket Juice, I’m just having a whale of a time in the background, playing, messing around on silly keyboards. It was an amazing meeting of minds with Tony and Flea, and most of these tracks were one-take wonders. We bounced all over the place.’ (...) projects such as Rocket Juice are as liable to draw as much ‘purist’ criticism as they are crossover praise. ‘I’ve always had an inquiring mind; music has been a constant search and battle with myself,’ says Albarn, smiling. ‘And it took me years not to take criticism negatively. It was strange at the Brits (where Blur won the Outstanding Contribution Award this year), being 17 years older than the other participants in the pageant. I remember what it was like originally, and there’s a marked change in my outlook now; over time you learn to create order, and not be afraid of chaos.’
Tony: ‘When Damon calls me, I might not always know what he’s aiming at, but I know it’s not bullshit,’ says Allen, with gruff fondness. The Afrobeat architect’s highly distinctive drum patterns open the Rocket Juice album; Allen was also part of another Albarn outfit, The Good, The Bad & The Queen, and he collaborates on Albarn's opera Dr Dee. ‘He feels like an inseparable music partner,’ he says. (Couldn't find a direct quote from Tony about Flea, but I'm sure the two got on great!)
This is wonderful! I now feel like there's a collaboration or at least friendship between most of our beloved 90s musicians, like you could pick two names at random and they'd have a project together. Creativity and talent everywhere.

Mona: Legolas. She hands out candy to kids and teens and occasionally gets asked ti get a picture taken
Brynn: Valkyrie from the MCU. I feel like she saw Valkyrie and just adored her. She goes out trick or treating with Drew and Q.
Drew: Steven Grants moon knight. I think Ollie would’ve loved the MCU when he was a kid, so a character probably grew on Drew, like Marc Spector.
Q: its maybe canon he’d go as a witch, but if I had to decide I think he’d go as Rocket Raccoon. Why? Lets just complete this little marvel trio lol. Plus tiny
Heng Yue: Jessica rabbit. Two asexual lady’s? ONE IS DRESSING UP AS THE OTHER? Yes. She hands out candy that’s apple flavoured tho lol
Arcana: Asra from The Arcana. Mona made him dress up for halloween and picked this out for him. He’ll give you a treat and a trick and do magic trick for kids
Chalmers: medic from tf2. Bro would hand out those eyeball chocolate candys LMAO
Lewis: fuck uhhh he’d go as a boxing character. He uses those gauntlet thingys as boxing gloves.
David: sans. sans.
Elliot: he doesn’t dress up 💀
Falken: I think someone would convince him ti go as Hawks from MHA arcana lol. He thinks the wings itch a little
Clara: Wonder Woman. She probably hands out snickers to kids
Donar: Sephiroth. I had to put someone in a Sephiroth costume and he’s the victim
Ashley: she’d probably go as a vampire just for something to do
Tang xuan: Lego monkey kid. Bro probably loved that show
Odette: a skier. I think she wouldn’t really put in the effort but still wants to have fun lol
Sienna: an old lady. Inspired buy by six year old cousin who’s going as an old man this year LMAO
Dahlia: Davy Jones from Pirates of the Carribean
THIS IS ALL I CAN DO LMAO I spent all of my brain juice lol
